It's Tuesday and National Daiquiri Day. Birthdays: Edgar Degas, Alice Dunbar Nelson, Brian May. What fragrance are you wearing?
More mango points: I'm still looking for my L'Artisan Parfumeur Nuit de Tubéreuse, but meanwhile I'm smelling delicious in (the sadly discontinued) Parfums de Nicolaï Eau Exotique. Later I'll shower with Yves Rocher Mango Coriander shower gel (and by the way, the annual What's In Your Shower poll is coming up on Saturday).
Reminder: on 7/22, for National Mango Day, wear a perfume (or a body product?) with a mango note, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is for DavidsTea Mango Matcha ("Elevate your matcha ritual. Made with a base of finely ground energizing green tea powder, pure cane sugar and juicy mango, this natural-flavoured matcha is a refreshing way to treat yourself while sipping the whole leaf benefits of green tea. Good morning.
Sotd is Terracotta Le Parfum.
I love DavidsTea! They have so many fun flavours.

Hahaha!
You smell great today!
In the last wafts of SL Un Bois Vanille after a perfectly horrid night. Bleh!
Foxbins, if you see this, I’m wondering if you’ve gotten your Boyfriend yet, and what you think of it…There’s a rumor I bought a travel spray and I’m looking for feedback to justify this unnecessary purchase. 😬
Sorry you had a bad night — was it super-windy where you are? Sounded like near-hurricane strength here for a while. (And then I had nightmares about being stuck in snow … but that’s a whole other story.)
No, not weather related, the horror show was work related. Sorry about your nightmares and the wind!
You smell wonderful in UBV. I hope your next shift is blessedly uneventful, Deva!
Thanks. I was back in COVIDLAND and oh em gee. I can’t believe this is where we are 2.5 years later. 😭
SO sorry Deva.
No Boyfriend yet. It was “Out For Delivery” yesterday but didn’t show. Maybe today. I’ll let you know tomorrow!
Looking forward to hearing about it!
Sorry to hear you had a rough night! I think your Boyfriend travel spray is a very reasonable purchase. I have a bottle, and I find it super comforting in a casual way. It’s a fall favorite if mine.
Sistine, I think I pulled the trigger in the hopes it would bring fall on faster. I remember I really wanted to try it years ago based on reviews, then couldn’t find it anywhere. Completely forgot about until foxbins brought it up the other day. Thanks for assuaging my travel size guilt! 😃
Hope you have a better day than night. Boyfriend is really nice, I wear it a lot in cool weather.
Still have a couple bottles of the OG Boyfriend perfume. The body butter was even better than the perfume, IMO.
Hello all!
In one of my old favorites, Dzongkha. I bought a back up bottle recently but just had to see how the formula is in the new packaging. Still very much Dzongkha. Today I’m in my clear bottle and smelling like the calm I need for a long day.
Have a great day everyone!
You smell amazing. I love Dzongkha.
It’s a perfume for almost all of my moods. A top ten for sure.
Hi! You smell great 😊
Thank you!
You smell great! Dzongkha is a masterpiece.
It really is! I’m so glad they haven’t had to mess with it much.
heavenly! 🙂 Dzongkha is perfect.
Thank you!
Nice to hear about a perfume that has NOT been reformulated to death! 💀
I’m in a little nineties-era Estée Lauder Private Collection, not as much oakmoss as I would have liked but still terrific, green but also rich and lush, really sophisticated.
Speaking of green and lush, I have managed not to kill off the plants on my balcony and the leaves are plentiful, so that makes me happy, but I don’t see any sign of flowers in three of them: I’m increasingly doubtful that they’ll flower at all, because there isn’t a whole lot of sun on this side of the building, just an hour in the morning and a few more in the evening, plus it’s been a fairly dismal summer so far (it’s raining yet again today). The forget-me-nots have bloomed but the perfume is scant — you have to gather a bunch up and put your nose to them to smell anything. I suspect I may just have to content myself with herbs and attractively leafy plants going forward and give up the idea of having a scented garden.
You could try a liquid fertilizer, if you haven’t already. There are formulas meant to encourage blooms. Or even just an all-purpose houseplant one, like Schultz.
Good luck, hope it is not too late for blooms!
I’m in a sample of Nicolai Cedrat Cologne. I love Cedrat. Heat index is expected to hit 108 today.
🔥☀️
Stay cool PriscillaE!
SOTD is Smell Bent 1999, one of the six large samples / small bottles I got in the sale. Pretty sure I only have one mango, which is the same one everyone else has, so I’m saving it for Friday.
We might as well called it On The Nile Friday.
Good one!
I’m in Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir.
It’s another hot and humid one today, but no complaints because: sun!🌞
Has anyone else started watching the newest season of Grantchester? Last season I was starting to feel kind of meh about it and I don’t know if they have new writers or what, but it is really good!
You smell great!
oooh! I miss watching Grantchester. I gave up on it a while back, good to hear it’s worth another look. I’ll check it out after I finish with the silliness at Hotel Portofino. 😉
Warning: Grantchester spoiler from last season!! Don’t read below.
I’m just glad that whole business of Leonard going to jail is over. That almost drove me to stop watching! It was so heartbreaking.
Very good to know, I was going to skip it entirely.
I had stopped watching it, too. Good to know it’s back on form, thanks madtowngirl!
Looks like I can do a whole week of mango scents, who knew? SOTA yesterday was Kilian Moonlight in Heaven. SOTA today will be Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit, my favorite Pacifica ever, and thus of course discontinued. But not to worry, I have a lifetime stash 🙂
Meanwhile off to do more combat gardening. Yesterday I hacked out a dead lavender bush, and I have the wounds to prove it. Today I will be playing with my favorite gardening power tool, a hand held (well, shoulder lugged) mulcher. Like a leaf blower in reverse. Vacuuming the yard, my husband calls it.
Oh, I used to have one of those (left it at the house I sold when Mr. G and I moved to an apartment in LA), and I need to find another! Is yours electric or gas?
Electric. Mine’s a WORX Trivac. I do wish it ran on batteries though instead of being corded.
Thanks!
Wait, there’s hand held mulchers????
My former one was a combination leaf blower and leaf sucker/mulcher. It was amazing — it could reduce four bags of dry leaves to less than one bag of pulverized leaves.
Yup mine’s the same. It’s awesome.
At the moment I’m wafting Vol de Nuit in semi-vintage EDT formulation. Will have to switch after a shower because it’s gonna be hot here this afternoon.
Ahhh, you smell great. May I come sit by you? I’ll bring my portable fan.
Absolutely! 😁
Happy to say hi to everyone again!
I’m back from my summer holidays in Turkey, had a wonderful week there. I feel recharged. The temperatures were usually around 35*C the whole time, so hot and I’m not really used to such high temps living in Poland.
I just thunked a bottle of Le Jardin de Monsieur Li today.
Welcome back, lucasai — glad to hear your trip was rejuvenating!
Glad you had a great trip!
Welcome back, I’ve enjoyed seeing your trip photos on Instagram!
Welcome back!
I looked at Fragrantica and was surprised to see that Jungle l’Elephant has mango but the thought of wearing it in the heat is a no go. So I started looking for my sample of Zoologist Chameleon, got tired and put on Clair de Musc. Now I need a nap but I have to do stuff grrr (stealing grrr from allo) 🙂
Never would have guessed that about l’Elephant!
Me neither but it has everything else so why not Mango?
You’re right of course! Lots of stewed fruits in there and apparently mango is one. Like you, I don’t think I’ll be able to wear it Friday because of the heat. It will be 76 here, certainly a long way from the 108F 🥵 PriscillaE is dealing with, but still….
Part of me is really curious to see what would happen if I wore Kenzo’s Elephant in the heat. But another part is saying C’mon, you know better than that! 🐘
Lol! I might do it just for fun.
In Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil.
Happy Tuesday! 🌞
le Nil is so perfect for summer. 🙂
One of my favorites for hot weather!
Happy Tuesday!🌞
👋
Yes to hot-weather perfumes from Hermes!
All great scents!
I’m in Prada Purple Rain; so glad I have this decant from the splitmeet! Sigh…it’s so hot here in Houston. I feel for those folks in the UK. At least I’m accustomed to this weather.
Yes, and at least we have A/C!
Oh geez, I hadn’t thought of that! Now I really feel bad for them.
There isn’t A/C in the UK?
NYT says about 5% of households in UK have a/c. No idea if that is accurate.
I heard a similar statistic over the weekend on NPR.
Purple Rain is one of my most favorite iris scents. You smell wonderful.
Thank you tiffanie. It’s becoming one of my favorites too – I started out with 11 sprays this morning, and I just reupped with another six sprays!
I’m wearing Lush’s Karma today. My husband hates it, but he’s not here so it’s the perfect day for it.
One great thing – yesterday I harvested two eggplants from our container garden, and today I harvested the first three tomatoes!!! Very excited about vegetables at the moment.
Oooh, now what are you going to cook?
I made pasta puttanesca last night with the eggplant. Today I enjoyed a fabulous caprese salad for lunch. And I’ll probably do that again tomorrow!
Caprese! My favorite.
yay for garden success! 🙂 home grown tomatoes are the best.
Oooooh, Caprese salad with freshly picked tomatoes sounds SO good! 😋🍅
How wonderful to have your own vegetables! They are worth the wait.
I have a tiny vial of Karma which has almost congealed. Every once in a while I open it up to huff it. Might have to add some rubbing alcohol to thin it out. I know you smell fantastic!
I didn’t realize that Nuit de Tubéreuse has mango in it so Sotd it is! Thank you for the inspiration, Robin.
Another surprise mango scent!
De nada 🙂
Wearing Byredo Pulp – it has a lot of fruit, maybe there is mango in there somewhere?
If you smell mango in there, then it’s a Go.
🙂 Pulp is all kinds of fruity, gotta be mango in there somewhere.
I have two mango scents that I know of, I’ll wear them Thursday and Friday. I need a haircut so I’ll try to get an appt. for sometime this week. My hair has gone all floofy. Today I’m wearing MFK Amyris Femme, a soft floral. I feel very feminine in it.
It’s funny how hair can go from okay to floofy overnight.
I used up a syrupy sample of that a few days ago. It is very pretty. You smell great today! 🙂
I wish my hair would get floofy when it is overgrown. Mine goes flat. (mope)
It’s warm and sunny enough to break out the Biehl PC01, which has mango.
Forgot that one!
I forgot about it too! I think I still have a sample.
sotd = Vanilla Flash
from a a sample, highly recommend the Tauer sample sets. Love the little blue tin.
I am sniffing Tobacco Vanille as well. I think I like VF better today, tho the other vanilla is a great scent. I spilled a drop on my keyboard months ago and can still smell it.
Wishing everyone vanilla and mango scented loveliness on this terrific Tuesday.
Thank you tiffanie! I love your posts, they are so uplifting!
I am wearing Phi Une Rose de Kandahar, two days in a row which is rare for me.
At work trying to concentrate and not to daydream.
Tomorrow i will try to find one with a mango note.
You smell gorgeous!
2nd that. Who needs mango?
Has anyone here tossed their cosmetics since the pandemic? I have drawers full of no-longer-worn lipsticks, eye shadows and face powders. Part of me says toss it, but part of me feels really sad that at 56, my life as a « pretty girl » is over. What to do?
Just yesterday I thought to myself ” I used to be pretty” I have pretty much stopped wearing makeup since the shut down. I’ve tried a handful of times to restart wearing makeup but I just don’t care anymore and that makes me sad. I haven’t thrown anything out except mascara and my daughter has enough makeup that I can borrow if I ever feel up to it again. I’m thankful I still love my perfumes.
I wore it during my vacation in Montréal earlier this month, but that’s pretty much been it for the past 2+ years. I feel invisible in my life here in San Diego & BC, so why bother? For whatever reason being in the big city made me feel like I existed again as a woman. Interesting phenomenon.
I tossed some makeup, kept only the ones that I really love.
Probably a good idea – just reduce the ones I’m not likely to ever wear again, hold on to the ones I still like.
Oh no, as long as we’re not pushing up daisies, our pretty girl days are NOT over. I systematically swatched all of my lipsticks on my hands/arms and sniffed them, and there were only two that had to be tossed. As for powder cosmetics, I think they last indefinitely if they smell okay. Now mascara and foundation, those have a shelf life. I’ve tossed those.
I don’t by any means wear cosmetics every day, but when I do, it’s because it boosts my mood and makes me feel pretty. And we all deserve to feel pretty. 🙂
What Nancyleandros said.
I still wear less makeup than pre-pandemic, but I’ve actually started wearing a very neutral eyeshadow on days I have meetings (I rarely wore eyeshadow pre-pandemic). Had a GREAT brow-shaping just before I left Ireland, and am making friends again with my bolder lip colors. I’m in my mid-50s, generally invisible to people thanks to my age and mostly silver hair, but I’ve never looked better and as long as I am happy with how I look, I’m good. (Part of the happiness with how I look is, I think, the joy caring what others think!)
Thank you for this, it is encouraging!
I have new, still sealed stuff. I am letting myself get rid of shades that don’t suit me, no matter how much they cost.
I really should declutter that.
That’s a good idea – I don’t see myself wearing bright blue & green eyeshadow ever again. I’ve found a few neutral and subtle shades that I feel good in now.
I toss lipsticks after a few years, eye pencils after a few years +.
I don’t toss eye shadow, but I only use it very rarely so I brush off the top layer with a clean brush and then use another clean brush to apply.
I’ve basically switched to tinted lip balms, so I can probably toss most of the lipsticks.
That’s mostly what I use too, I just think of them as lipsticks! I never wore bright colors…MAC Syrup is as bold as I go, and it’s basically the same color as my lips 🙂
I still have lots of makeup, even though I don’t wear it every day. I have pared some things down though.
Aging has given me hooded eyelids, but I’ve got a great taupe eyeshadow to counteract that (when I do wear it). Eyebrows are the one thing I need to do most days since the grey hairs have moved in.
No full-face makeup usually but I do a few things since it makes me feel better.
No make up for me since the pandemic. I just don’t feel like being bothered with it. I am still keeping very few lipsticks, mascaras, eye liners and powders in case I get in the mood to wear them. I feel ok with myself that way and that’s what it counts to me.
I think the loss of interest in makeup is not unusual since you’ve been going through an especially hard time on top of the stress of a world wide pandemic. I stopped wearing makeup entirely with the onset of the pandemic because of masking, face shields, and helmet respirators we use for Covid. Oh, and did I mention stress?! Lol
Previously, I wore makeup on work days because I think it helps patients to feel more confident if I look neat and put together vs the just rolled out of bed look.
I pared down a ton of makeup when I started traveling, and as mask mandates eased, I found myself using skin care and makeup in a more meditative way. I don’t have to rush to work as soon as I get up, and having time to thoughtfully do my skin care and makeup now makes me feel better.
I’ve never been a “pretty” girl, so I don’t feel the loss of that recognition really. I think beauty is ageless and some of the loveliest women are those that proudly wear their life experience on their face, made more noticeable when they smile and laugh. I HAVE packed on pounds as I’ve traveled since my regular biking/spinning and good food choices have gone out the window. It is what it is. I’m still wearing my maxi dresses everyday and mostly feeling good. I will say many middle aged and older women have asked me about my purple hair and have had positive comments. Doing this one thing has helped me feel more “seen” than anything. The feedback from complete strangers has been really fun! I’d say cut yourself a break, don’t make any big decisions until you feel you’ve gotten your equilibrium back. It will come back! I can attest to that! And then maybe do one thing out of your comfort zone and see how it goes. I’ve never seen you in a photo or in person, but I can guarantee you are BEAUTIFUL! 🤗
I have been thinking about doing purple hair for a couple of years now, LOL. Mostly I haven’t done it because my husband is horrified at the idea. But maybe next year I’ll actually do it! I think I look reasonably good for 56, despite being just a simple jeans & tshirt kind of woman. But you’re right, I’ve been through an exceptionally tough time and my mojo is going to take time to recover. Thank you for your sweet comments. 🙂
I should probably go thru my lipstick stash and at least toss the ones that have started to smell bad. Been putting off that task for a while.
My official sotd is Clean Ultimate Beach Day, which is really nice. It’s hot and humid here ( not complaining! just reporting) I also have a sample spritz of Hypnotic Poiso on. I think I have talked myself into getting it again. I have a goal of trying to replace my early 2000 collection that I threw out/gave away (when I thought I would never wear perfume again) and HP is on the list.
Love HP, but have not smelled a new version…is yours new(ish)? Smell the same?
By memory it smells the same. No ambroxan to be found! Lol.
Yay.
I love Hypnotic Poison and will always own a bottle. I find the current version just fine!
When I first had it, I also had the lotion and shower gel. I remember them being very luxurious.
I should retry HP one of these days. I did not like it one bit when it first came out… it went all sore muscle liniment on me! Maybe now things will be different?
When I think about the perfumes that I threw out, kinda makes me cringe! I hope you get back the ones you love!
Robin, your photo today inspired my morning beverage. I made a matcha latte (iced) with mango syrup. It was yummy! I don’t usually have my matcha lattes cold or with much sugar, so this was a fun twist.
All the comments yesterday and today made me realize I do have enough mango scents to do a whole week. It also made me realize the mango note is more versatile than I had initially thought, occurring in some scents I think of as cold-weather scents, like Or du Serail and Jungle l’Elephant. It’s definitely a fun note though, for cold or warm weather, I love that about mango! I’m going to go with Bombay Bling today.
Oh, that sounds delicious!
I read the entire Fragrantica mango list and I have not a one. Yesterday was commando, today is Cristalle Eau Verte, one of my all-time favorites for hot weather.
And see, you smell great anyway 🙂
Loads of Ninfeo Mio today since y’all were talking about it a bit on the weekend poll or late last week. Such a reliable summer scent for me. I also associate it with my boyfriend’s dad’s wedding about 10 years ago because I wore it that weekend. It was a very small ceremony at an old Tudor mansion turned inn/event site in Northern Ohio. Just a beautiful setting. And I got to experience my first gardenia flower with the boutonniere that my bf was given to wear.
Excellent perfume pick for hot summer weather! And it definitely has a true-to-life boxwood note in there.
I’m wearing one of my new purchases from Luckyscent, I bought two FBs to help average the shipping costs. This is Ormond Jayne Ta’if, which I’ve wanted for years. When I visited London seven years ago (it’s that long ago!!), I made a difficult choice between Ta’if and Orris Noir, now I’ve finally got both.
Congratulations! Glad to hear they are shipping down under, I think they had stopped for a while?
Ta’if was the first OJ I bought when I visited London and got to try them all out at Harrod’s. I have since come to like OJ Woman the most of all of the line, but I also really love Orris Noir. Congratulations on your purchases!
Reading through, I discover I just got sent a sample if something with Mango in it, so I am good for Friday. I will do some investigating- can’t believe I have no magi scents but nothing pops to mind.
Turns out mango is rarer than I thought!
My SOTD may seem surprising: Zoologist Chipmunk. It seems to have been marketed as or come to be associated with fall fragrances, maybe because it is woodsy and nutty, but I’m finding it a cozy delight in hot weather, I think maybe because of its top notes of quince and blood mandarin. It’s also fairly sweet, but not in any sickening way (I do find several of their scents too sweet, including Hummingbird and Nightingale). I found my sample of it in the bag I was looking through the other day of recent patchouli samples, and now I’ve worn it quite a few times. I probably don’t need a FB but maybe a travel bottle is in my future.
Thanks, I need to see if I have a sample of that!
I liked Chipmunk enough to buy it, it is pleasant and easy to wear in the best way.
Thanks to the NSTers yesterday who mentioned a couple of perfumes with hidden mango notes in them. I have more options for Friday than I thought.
SOTD = Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser Gold EdT. Perfect for the ridiculously hot and humid weather that has moved in! 🥵🔥
Sounds like you like the perfume!
Very happy that I snagged a FB of that one in SB’s Last Call Sale!
Late to the party!
SOTD = Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver
SOTA = Jo Malone Silver Birch & Lavender
They’re light and perfect for this yucky day.
I got my Lucky Scent order today. The contents are probably not suitable wear for a hot commute (tomorrow) but can be a candidate for Thursday. 🪲
Now off to read the comments!
Wait, wait! What all did you buy?! Nosey people like me want to know! 😃
The clue is 🪲 🤣
Bug spray? 😜
Yeah, tomorrow’s weather is already causing my smart phone to freak out with alerts and warnings.
Sacred Scarab!!!
