Don't shoot the messenger but it's Monday again. Also, the 78th anniversary of D-Day. Birthdays: Diego Velázquez, Alexander Pushkin, Thomas Mann. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking points early this week in Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan.
Reminder: on 6/10, for National Iced Tea Day, wear a fragrance with a tea note (a repeat of the Tea Time Friday in 2015, by request from AnnE).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning.
Wishing everybody a good week ahead.
Sotd is LV Etoile Filante. Smells like osmanthus and jasmine tea.
Currently drinking strong black coffee.
I am not familiar with LV, what does it stand for? Osmanthus is lovely.
Louis Vuitton.
Happy888cat, we are osmanthus cousins today.
Osmanthus + jasmine tea sounds lovely!
Food poisoning over the weekend so not daring to put any scent on as I don’t want to trigger anything. So, I will read what lovely scents you all are wearing.
Oh I’m so sorry about your food poisoning, that will ruin a weekend 🙁
Oh yuck! Hope you are feeling better!
Oh dear!! Wise to skip the scent, and hope you are better tomorrow.
Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon
Blergh! You have my sympathy 💛
Been there, done that, feel you! Lots of hydration!
And a banana if you can manage
Hope you’re better now!
Bletch! Food poisoning is horrid. Been there, done that, hated it. Good call on skipping fragrance.
1999-vintage Guerlain Samsara EDT as I do the chores (laundry, vacuuming, cleaning some pens, the usual). I have lots of scents that I can happily wear any time any day, but Samsara is not one of them: I have to be in a very specific mood for it, and right now it’s perfect.
House twins!
You smell blissful
Hi LTSG… I just saw your weekend post about Halifax/Nova Scotia. As someone who was born and grew up there I have given you some suggestions for your trip along with the ones other NST’rs have mentioned! I’m excited for you!
Cleaning pens: fountain? Or animal?
I assumed the writing kind, but loved the image you provided of Pyramus mucking the chicken coop and sheep pen in OshKosh dungarees and vintage Samsara.
I live in an apartment, so fountain. But if I had animal pens to muck out, I’d still want to smell good.
Well, naturally. 😆
House triplet – you smell wonderful! For those of us who dare, ’90’s versions of Samsara pop up on Ebay at very reasonable prices, and it is so chic. It might be creeping up in price, but it was widely sold and I think many lovely & sanely-priced bottles are lurking…
I check prices for Samsara there every so often, and yeah, the prices are going up. 😟
from the Splitmeet
Iris Ganache by Guerlain
This remind me a lot of Après L’Ondée.
Went for a peaceful walk around Central Park this morning. Now going to my second cappuccino.
Excited tomorrow to start up my Italian lessons. I took a brief break as I was studying for the library. Now I am happy to go back!
Just wanted to mention that I visited the Met fashion exhibit over the weekend and it was very good. Small exhibit, but mighty!
Tanti auguri!
(yes, I googled that)
Grazie Robin.
I have missed thinking and speaking in another language.
Your day and plans sound wonderful. And may I give you an enabler pin for Rose Prick? I bought a travel spray last week after trying it many times in the past month 😍 mille grazie!
I love rose 🌹 prick!!
It is one of my favs of TF.
It leaves a beautiful trail on me. How do you like it
I think I haven’t tried that many TFs – I have both Fleur de Chine and London, and would have loved a bottle of Plum Japonaise if it were still available – but this feels both easy to wear and exciting, as well as a being a good rose (I have lots of lovely rose perfumes) so I am just really pleased with this affordable and very very wearable TR travel spray! Plus, I want to dress in the same shade of pink whenever I wear it 🤣 so thank you for that inspirazione as well!
💕🌹
Have you tried rose chine and rose almalfi?
I just saw that Nordstrom has a whole line of Tom Fords!
I have tried all three of the new roses, yes! I can’t remember which of the two I preferred, from almalfi and chine, but they both seemed really well done and (possibly chine?) reminded me a bit of…Fleur de Chine, but I might just be using the name to draw a positive comparison there, ack! I do want to try them again but there aren’t any travel sizes of them here so I’ll be keeping an eye out for duty-free/airport prices if I feel tempted… 😀
Hi twin! Sportin’ my Iris Ganache from the Splitmeet, too. I will compare with Apres l’Ondee; I didn’t think of that. I got elements of Joyeuse Tuberose and/or Cruel Gardenia. IG was half of what I expected, if that makes sense! So glad to have it, and it’s a powerhouse on me so yay!
It starts off strong but quiets down on me.
Wearing a spritz of Clair de Musc today since I have a haircut and I don’t want to be overpowering. Mom’s caretaker and her family all have covid now so this is week 2 of taking care of mom everyday. I’m already tired.
Hang in there ringthing. Enjoy your haircut!
Thanks!
Oh, I bet you’re tired! Glad you get a haircut break.
Enjoy your fresh hair and bon courage for your caretaking.
I understand your situation very well. I am sending encouraging thoughts. Enjoy your time outside!
Thank you!
ringthing, you must be tired — try to get good sleep! I am a part-time caretaker for a friend of mine who had a stroke several years ago, and it can be very wearying.
You smell great!
Thanks Lisa, your friend is fortunate to have you!
You smell lovely, sending good thoughts your way.
Lots of us have empathy, sadly. It can turn out to be the best thing you have ever done in your life, though. Tough as it was, I have a connection with my parents I never thought could get to that level.
Being a caretaker to a loved one is the most difficult job/task I can think of. Hang in there!
Thanks, Jalapeño.
You smell wonderful; that is one of my favorites by Uncle Serge. I bet your beautician would like a sniff or two. I hope your caregiving stays routine, and that the regular person is back very soon.
Thank you, me too.
Monday already? Sigh. It’s raining again but it looks like the blue skies will be back tomorrow.
I’m in Eau Premiere. I had kind of a lazy, nonproductive weekend, but sometimes I feel like that’s just what I need. Last night we watched Happy Gilmore. The preview started playing as we were scrolling through Netflix (I kind of hate how it does that on our new appletv) and my daughter was like “can we watch that?!” Lol. So we did.
We are house twins!
Hey house twin!🙌
I am wearing Chanel Boy.
I came to the summer cottage for the weekend, doing lots of reading and watching Charmed with my daughter.
Going back today to a crazy busy week.
You smell lovely.
Not a tea leaf in sight here — I’m in Gucci EDP, the dark juice from 2002. Orange blossom and dark spices … and iris and leather per fragrantica, which I now have to see if I can identify.
Ooooooh, you smell GREAT today!
You do smell great! No tea leaves here, either.
Thanks for your positive sun vibes, got a couple hours of daylight last evening. Cloudy today but at least not raining. We are supposed to get one day of sun tomorrow, then rain for the rest of the week. So we are planning a bike ride tomorrow, crossing fingers the sun prediction isn’t just a tease!
Wearing Floral Romantique today. Saving Neroli Outrenoir for Friday.
House twins. I am also saving Neroli Outrenoir for Friday too..
Though Omnia I could also wear one day this week for the chai tea note. There is such thing as iced chai for the CP
Sending you lots of sunny days. I will join you both saving Neroli Outrenoir for Friday.
Sending more sun vibes your way! ☀️☀️☀️
I wish we could trade some weather for a few days. It will be 100 degrees here for a week.. My work keeps me inside but this weather is harsh and it isn’t even summer yet.
I am over my COVID vaccine adverse effects. I had to pick something light today so I went with Glossier You.
TF Tubereuse Nue for me today. It lingers on clothing but is long gone from my arms by now. I like it, but I’m glad I didn’t spend too much on my decant.
The kids and I are hanging in, but we’re all feeling the “summer break starts in four days” vibes.
I like the TF ! Enjoy the clothing scent.
Almost there!!
Parfum d’Empire Salute! is my sotd 🙂
Are you counting down to Esxense?
I’d love to go to Esxense! Be sure to tell us if you find The Next Great Thing, lucasai.
In Bvlgari Au the Bleu.
On my way out to take a walk on this gorgeous warm and sunny day!
Happy Monday! 🌞
Hi Almost Twin!
👋 We smell great!
Perfect early summer weather today for sure!
Gorgeous! 😍
We had a nice Sunday even if the weather was crazy weird- hot and sunny one minute, then sunny, raining, with cold breezes the next.
We visited the dead folks at Western State Hospital again. I try to go say hello if I’m in the area. I was sad to see that the grounds and graves are looking very neglected with fences falling down and the entire area overgrown and sad. There was a project trying to identify the thousands of patients buried there (they were buried under a brick that identified them by number, and over the years the records have become lost or misplaced) and last year they were really making progress and of course everything was neat and tidy. I guess the money ran out…🙁
In other news, finally tracked down a locking gas cap for the van. Just read yesterday about some ingenious ways people have come up with to steal gas and figured no time like the present!
SOTD is a single spritz of Bvlgari Omnia because I’m still not feeling Top Shelf.
Wait. What? Hospital cemetery? Thousands? An asylum? Pray tell more!
I linked a little blurb below. This is rumored to be the place Francis Farmer was lobotomized although no records have been found to confirm that. They lost funding in 2018 and admissions were halted due to conditions, seems like they are now reinstated. I read somewhere they are also planning on opening a huge forensic unit. The people I visit are the graves of over 3000 individuals from the 1800’s to early 1900’s. They were buried and identified only with a number. Research has showed duplication of numbers, plots without a body, and all kinds of other disturbing stuff.
https://www.mentalhealthportland.org/clear-pixel-once-anonymous-graves-of-mentally-ill-at-wash-mental-institution-get-named-markers/
*shown 🙄
I hadn’t heard of the cemetery. I love that there are people trying to identify those buried there.
A book I am reading right now is about a mental “asylum” in Illinois in the 1860s, so just 10 years before Western State. Kate Moore’s “The Woman They Could Not Silence” is about Elizabeth Packard’s fight for women’s mental health and autonomy. She was a brilliant religious scholar and feminist, who was committed to an asylum for years at her husband’s instigation. Her dx was “religious insanity”– her refusal to agree with her pastor husband on ecclesiastical matters was the proof of her illness (deemed incurable by the so-called experts). Conditions at the asylum were horrendous. Anyway, the author relies heavily on Packard’s own writings, and that of her husband, as well as court and asylum records, which makes the story all the more revelatory.
That is so nice that you go to visit that cemetery, Deva. I will read the history in just a bit. Glad you found that gas cap; I can imagine theft being a problem in public campgrounds. But I hope no one even tries.
Bvlgari Au the Bleu for me today. Looks like I’m twins/house twins with a couple of you fine folks today. 😊
And you all smell great!
That’s a lovely pick for warm/hot weather.
Going to put on Oolang Infini. I do have a rollerball of a green tea scent as well. Maybe I will have to try them layered!
Might as well try it!
Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois from a sample (thank you allo!) and I get the hype. I love SL Bois et Musc and this is spicier but has all the elements I already love.
Mmmmmm 🙂
I should find my travel spray, it’s been ages.
Tested the new Byredo Vanille Antique yesterday and was relieved to discover it did not work for me at all. Loved everything about it except the cost, and it turned out also except the scent. Whew. 💰saved!
Today I’m testing Sunset Hour.
I want to test that one too. What turned you off about it?
Loads of folks seem to love it, so take my impression with a grain of salt (esp. since I have trouble with some vanilla scents as a rule). But, to answer your question, to me 1) it did not rise to an extrait in depth or longevity; 2) there was a high-pitched sweetness in there that reminded me saccharine; and it 3) had a slight booziness that reminded me of Angel’s Share, but it is so amorphous that I found it unsatisfying. All that said, I didn’t hate it or anything. Just did not swoon. Not even close.
I have Tobacco Mandarin and feel like none of the Byredos, even the $$$ fancy ones, wear like anything other than edp.
Saccharine sweetness is a big red flag, that bothered me in Dior Tobacolor.
I do like Angel’s Share. Will definitely test Vanille Antique when I get the chance.
Ha, a narrow escape 🙂
Your credit card is breathing a big sigh of relief about that one. 😉🤑
Ummm. That might be my husband 🤣
Ha, ha, etc! 😀
Today is my last day of vacation and go back to work tomorrow. Wearing Clinique Happy today. Not looking forward to going back to work and have to wait until August until my next one.
So sorry Dawn! Hope you’re enjoying your last day.
Commando so far — we are wrapping up a week at the beach and started the day with a kayak tour through cypress groves in a state park (apparently, the northernmost naturally occurring cypress in the US), and are now sitting on the beach. Water is a bit rough for us today — yesterday was a posted no swimming day — so am catching up on reading.
Here’s a Pushkin poem, a tiny tour-de-force; the translation is pretty good but it doesn’t capture the amazing and probably untranslatable next-to-last line (to be clear, anyone who can and does translate poetry has my respect; it is so very, very difficult): https://lyricstranslate.com/en/vinograd-grapes.html
Beautiful poem! I think it must be next to impossible to translate poetry. Those who do so must do it as an act of love. Everyday language is difficult and nuanced enough, poetry…Yeesh! I can’t imagine.
That sounds lovely — your kayak tour — so hope it was!
Thank you for this! I love Pushkin in English, but hearing a Russian poet and translator recite Pushkin in Russian a few years ago set me off to try and learn the language. I feel like learning enough to understand even a single poem will take…probably a decade. Hey, time well spent!
L’Artisan Mont de Narcisse
Robin, you smell terrific.
Why thank you, and so do you!
Happy Monday from a chilly South Africa!
SOTD Cuba Gold,in the “interesting” cigar bottle.Vanilla/Tobacco-ey goodness.
Wonderful to read the weekend comments about everyone’s vacations!
xo’s
Keep warm.
The vacation poll was unusually sentimental this weekend, I loved it!
The Good weather left us yesterday, I summoned summer by wearing Fidji and this evening it’s JP l’Heure Attendue, from the Héritage Collection (this precision is for Jalapeno) I think it’s my favorite although I enjoy them all.
House twins today! How’s that for synchronicity? My perfume is also from the Heritage Collection.
Amazing to be house twins, I never smelled Adieu Sagesse.
I’m back to work today after a long weekend, the three days were very nice and very quiet. A tea theme suits me! I’ve got several with the notes, so I’m going to start with the highly appropriate Tea for Two.
My bottle is in San Diego or I’d join you. You smell wonderful!
Commando. Think I’ll sit today out.
Thank for the comments over the weekend. They were touching and really meant a lot.
Enjoy the sunshine, those that have it
AnnieP, thank you for sharing your story at the weekend (and everyone who replied). It was very consoling to read. Sending you very best wishes for love and peace.
Hugs, Annieperfumes. It’s maybe terrible that I haven’t dreamt about the parents except as back ground players. That said, i am reminded everyday of their absence because i have largish pictures of them in my living room.
Profumi di Firenze Vaniglia del Madagascar today.
Last week was busy and kind of stressful so I am aiming for more calm this week.𑁍
Yum! You smell good – it doesn’t last as long on me as I would like, but it is a lovely vanilla.
Sorry to hear that last week was a stressful one for you.
Hope this week is more calm for you She-ra.
Sending calm your way, She-ra!
Well, hope my news will make you feel better. You have just received an enabler pin. Last week I decided to breakdown and order the Dame Peach Blossom, Violet and Vanilla EdT,
Sending you some calming vibes. New week, new vibes!
Sotd is Thé Pour Un Eté. I tried to hold off until Friday but I love this fragrance SO much that I might just wear it all week.
A week of tea sounds good
I love it too. It really is a great perfume!
Wearing OJ Tiare on one arm and Boutnniere on the other. The latter started out as Too Much, as it always does, but now is out-prettying the former.
Am actually drinking some iced tea today, the peach Celestial Seasonings.
Extra points for iced tea!
Another gorgeous sunny day, with low humidity. A rare summer treat for this area. However, the forecast is for this weather to move out, and unsettled, humid stuff to take its place tomorrow. So someone else will be getting and enjoying the sunshine I have had for the past 3 or 4 days. Enjoy! 🌞🌞🌞
SOTD = Jean Patou Adieu Sagesse EdP. Blind bought this when I found a bunch of Patou at a couple of discounters. It’s a light but spicy floral with a hint of hairspray. Sounds like a hot mess, right? I am enjoying it, though.
I’ve never heard of your SOTD!
I seem to have a knack for finding things like that. I smell white flowers and cloves, which kind of mimicked carnations for a little bit. The carnation “sniff-a-like” did not last long, though.
Hey Jalapeno did you see Alec John Such from Bon Jovi passed away? ( R.I. P.) I can’t believe he was 70.
I did! That was an unfamiliar name for me.
Such a lovely streak of weather we’ve had, after such a long wait!!
CP points for me! SOTD is Savoy Steam edp, which has a nice tea note. It’s not the focus of Savoy Steam, though. I really love the lemony opening, which is also herbal and aromatic but lightly so. This is a great summer scent!
I forgot about that one!
Hello perfume friends! I was able to catch up on quite a few polls this past weekend, and am sending wishes of hope and peace to you all, with all that’s going on. I have been dealing with my own issues by, ahem, buying more perfume – travel spray of TF Rose Prick (enabler pin to LTSG!), a handy 35mls of Hermès Voyage d’Hermès edt while enduring substantial travel delays (I love the parfum but the edt is so very refreshing) and also while on my travels a 50mls of Chanel Paris-Venise (enabler pin to someone else here, I am so sorry I can’t remember who but you said it was your favourite of the Chanel Eaux in a comment within the past couple of weeks so off I went to try it again this weekend 😍 so thank you!). I have lots to tell Lady Donatella, but I don’t think I have ever so much as sniffed a Versace perfume – any worth trying?
Travel sprays are *so* restrained – such an excellent way to deal with any issues that may arise, LOL! Ya know, I don’t think I have any Versace scents either! I hope Donatella has not noticed.
Thank you MossyBerry! 😀 Isn’t it funny about the Versace? I feel like magazine ads for some one of them are everywhere- is it Dylan Blue or something?? It has the lovely Bella Hadid in the ad campaign- but after very many years of dedicated department-store sniffing – not one Versace 😆
I liked Versace Yellow Diamond well enough for a rollerball perfume. That’s about it.
I will try this one as I think I have seen it, thank you!
Yellow Diamond regularly appears at the local TJX. I’ve hemmed and hawed over it several times, but never dropped it in the basket.
I once stopped a lady to ask what she was wearing. It was Versace Crystal Noir. She smelled amazing. I hate Bright Chrystal with a passion. It might be because It’s very popular in my city, along with Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue.
Thanks lillyjo, this gives me something else to look , and something to definitely avoid!
I am trying SL La fille de Berlin from a very nice fellow NST-er who threw it into the split I bought. It’s quite pleasant. In reviews on Fragrantica many people mention a metallic note, which I don’t get at all. At first it seemed too sweet but now that aspect is being moderated by ? something.
It is hot hot hot here. Ugh. I am not doing much, but saw the new Downton Abbey movie yesterday (at a real movie theater!!) and loved it. They gave us fans exactly what we wanted from it.
Tomorrow I’m going back to my knee doctor because after my recent fall I seem to have regressed.
Oh Calypso I was so sorry to read about your latest difficulty – I hope it works out very well for you and that it all heals really quickly. My dearest aunt has had knee trouble for a while and boy can it be trouble – I hope yours heals fully and well. And I love Uncle Serge, La Fille deB is one of my very best roses, and I have not one but two sets of recent travel-size SL perfumes to declare to Donatella, but that’s another story.
Ugh. Hope that you get a bit of good news from the knee doctor.
I’m sorry to hear about your recent fall and that the knee is acting up again. At least you got a couple hours of good escapism with Downton Abbey!
Hope you get some answers for that knee! I am craving a real movie theatre too – thank you for the mini-review. Oh, and you smell wonderful. I’ve worn La Fille de Berlin a couple times, and I did not get anything so metallic.
This is for Calypso, BTW.
Agreeing vigorously with you about the lack of metallic note in this gorgeous SL perfume – my bottle is about 7 years old, but I also have a recent travel size dabber bottle and that smells really good too (not identical but still recognisably SL, pure rose, and beautiful) and there is no metallic note there either.
No metallic notes for me with that SL either.
SotD Iris Ganache. I knew not to compare it to Iris Torrefie. And I’ve never sniffed Spiritueuse Double Vanille. But even with the wonderful rich vanilla, it seems to me to take another direction, a more formal one, with no food in sight. I will enjoy getting to know this one!
I’m trying Iris Ganache from the split too. I think I agree with what you’re saying, despite the vanilla and guerlinade, it’s not foodie at all to me. And I don’t get the cinnamon at all. Instead I’m getting something that reminds me more of Apres L’Ondee or Insolence? Like violets? I’m also looking forward to getting to know it better.
Another first impression was that it is not as full-on feminine as I expected from the notes and the (many) reviews I’d read over the years.
I’m traveling today but the flight is delayed, so I’m reading and looking at flight updates from time to time. I’m wearing Bottega Veneta, an inoffensive scent, for the plane.
Safe travels!
BV is perfect for plane rides. I hope you get off the ground soon.
SOTD is Montale Roses Elixir. The first spray brings me back to the original Miss Dior Cherie. Love it!
This is one of my favorite Montales!
I’ve been overwhelmed with work lately and it’s cutting into my perfume time!
I went with Angel today. Just because.
I am feeling overwhelmed too lillyjo, hope this whole thing ends for you as soon as possible and that something glorious begins instead ❤️
Perfume hugs for you!
Sending cheerful vibes!
I hope things calm down for you soon, lillyjo. 😊
I hope your work woes ease soon. And that Angel sets you on the track back to perfume-ing!
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
Just because! It’s so good!
The weekend was a bust for the family get-together. My cousin came down with a fever. Not sure if she was able to go back to Singapore today. Honestly, she’s not my favorite cousin as she has a certain hi-falutin’ air to her. Who cares whom she met up with yadayadayada…certainly not moi. Of course I already bought the stuff we were going to bring so I’m awash in fruits and 2 galettes, one of which I gave to my sister.
I was able to get 8 packages out on Saturday. I may get the rest out by Wednesday, possibly tomorrow. I haven’t sent out the tracking number yet because the tracking looked weird as of yesterday, but hopefully it’s now more normal looking so I can send my emails.
I got a treasure trove of smelly stuff, one from the Splitmeet and the other one from the House of Matriarch. I am looking forward to wearing these!
So, a mixed up weekend for you. No. 19 to the rescue!
Being awash in fruits and a galette sounds better than seeing haughty cousin?! Hahahaha! Freeze the fruit for smoothies this summer.
The only thing worse than high falutin’ the NP or Noxious Positive. “Oh, look! The sky is falling! Isn’t it beautiful?! Look at those colors! Oh my, it’s a once in the life Sky Fall and we are so lucky to be part of it!” Or, “She was in a car wreck and now has severe brain damage, but look! She’ ALIVE! And I just know she’s so happy to have lived through it!” 🤮
🤣👍
I have one of those cousins. She makes me feel 2 inches tall. Ugh.
Report back on HoM!
Ay, perfume-lover’s distress! My slow-buy came to screeching halt last month, I ordered a whole bunch of samples and a discovery set (along with all those splits). The package arrived unbeknownst to me and sat on my extremely hot and sunny doormat for who knows how long, a couple of hours at least. All my samples and the discovery set are now boiling hot, yikes! I’m just going to tell myself that light is more harmful than heat to perfume, and be grateful there wasn’t a full bottle in this package. I must also remember to try not to buy perfume in the warmer months. Back to a slow or no-buy until October? 😉
SOTD was Bvlgari Au Thé Rouge. I didn’t realize I had so many scents with tea notes! I could do a whole week. I guess tea is quite varied: black, red, green, smoky, spicy….
I once threw a bottle of perfume in my outside trash in the summer. After about 4 days I decided I wanted it back. I dug it back out and it still smelled the same!
That’s really funny, lillyjo – sounds like something I’d do!
I’ve had this happen, too. I’ve found the perfumes still smell good. I will do what I can to prevent my perfumes from exposure to heat and light. But I wonder whether even the finest perfume shops worldwide make sure their Guerlains or Chanels travel in a climate-controlled way from the factory to the counters.
