It's Monday and International Carrot Day. Birthdays: Dorothea Dix, Muddy Waters, Marguerite Duras, Maya Angelou. RIP Estelle Harris. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm sure I am just about to find my bottle of Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes.
Reminder: 4/8 is Jacques Brel’s birthday. If you like, tell us about a favorite Jacques Brel song and wear the fragrance to match. If you don't like, wear whatever you want.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Muscaris #1 [cropped] by Nicolas Torquet at flickr; some rights reserved.
I know nothing of Jacques Brel so I’m just gonna wear French fragrances all week, a different house every day.
Today I’m wearing Guerlain Mitsouko edt, because some days only Mitsouko will do and that’s a fact. Today is grey and snowy and slightly miserable, and the magical golden aura that Mitsouko confers will make it less oppressive.
Mitsouko sounds like the right pick for you and to lessen the effects of the weather.
That works!
I’m in the dying wafts of Tonka Imperiale. Will switch it up to something else after my shower today.
Can’t wait to get out of here! ICU again tonight (staffed 100% by travelers) and all the beeping, binging, ringing, ding dong ting-a-linging is driving me nuts! ??
Pretty sure I have a bad case of auditory fatigue. Now I will enjoy 4 days of silence! In my head, I’m Gwen Stefani belting out “Don’t Speak!”
That song takes me back to driving car loads of teenage girls everywhere, they were huge No Doubt and Gwen Stefani fans. Hope your time of silence is healing.
Weren’t the 90’s just yesterday? ?
Yes!
100% by travelers? Wow.
Usually not 100%, but the vast majority of ICU nurses are travelers and usually outnumber staff for many reasons. More and more nurses are leaving the bedside, and this exodus has only been sped up by the criminal legislation against RN’s for legitimate mistakes that are usually traced back to system errors. More and more, nurses feel it’s not safe to continue at the bedside. Physical violence from patients and families, and a real uptick in hostility and gaslighting from management has many nurses saying bye-bye. I’m hoping to be gone by next summer myself. It’s really sad to see the direction acute care is heading in the US.
Oh, I do know it’s all bad…from you and from reading the news…but somehow I never imagined that there would be no local staff at all in an ICU.
Well, the supervisor was staff If that makes you feel better. ?
when i was working in the hospital ward as a doctor, the beeping and ringing followed me into my dreams, i just kept hearing it… so i can totally relate. But the ICU smells better, when you are there!
Yep, I’ve had nightmares where the sound track is various beeps and whistles, too. ?
I’m starting my discovery set project, and first up is Assam of India, from my old Berdoues discovery set.
I don’t hear that one mentioned as much anymore. I was sorely tempted to do a blind buy if that one.
it always reminds me of Chocolatemarzipan, she wore it. so often
Eight weeks in a row several summers ago. I still have one row of elephants left. Nice to see that someone here still remembers me LOL
I remember your rows of ellys. I still have half bottle myself.
Jo Malone White Moss & Snowdrop and a large cup of English Breakfast tea.
That’s a lovely way to start the day.
How do you like that JM? I pondered buying it but wasn’t sure.
Other than Ne me quitte pas I am not familiar with other Jacques Brel. But his voice, love! I will put on a playlist and listen while I sip tea this morning. See if another songs inspires me.
Like Pyramus mentioned above-I am going to do French fragrances all week.
We watched Coda over the weekend and I really enjoyed it! Both Mr L and I were very impressed with this film
Since reading your comment I have had this song in my head, and my heart! It’s one of my mother’s favourites ❤️
It’s a great song ?
Your mother has great taste in music
?
I have a feeling participation on Friday will be sparse, but I could not resist.
My story: when I was in junior high I spent two weeks in a vacation house that had a record player and two records — Sweet Baby James by James Taylor and the original double album set of the cast recording of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. I know most of that album by heart, and almost none of his other music.
I spent my teenage years listening to a local college’s student radio station, and I used to have many eclectic favorites, mostly only one song by any particular artist. I’m going to give M. Brel a listen – thanks, Robin. And I am thinking this calls for smoke-filled-venue-friendly scents…
You were smarter than I was! I would *never* have listened to this album at that age if it were not one of the only 2 choices.
That said, some of my all time favorite songs are still by Jacques Brel, and some of the songs I memorized unwillingly at the time did not really resonate with me until later.
But also — in case it wasn’t clear, that album is not Jacques Brel singing, it is other people singing his songs for an off broadway production. So I did not even know his voice until later.
Some people here who do not know his music might know it by other artists. Judy Collins had a well known version of “Sons Of” in the 70s, for instance.
That was my first encounter with Brel too, that album! A college friend gave me a copy of it and a few years later we went to a cabaret gig with a lot of his songs being performed as part of the show. We’ve lost touch for many years but she is so near to me thanks to all the music she loved. Her signature perfume was Hypnotic Poison. I will wear that this week…thanks for this story and this reminder of good times, Robin.
Oh, nice!! And so you actually saw the show, or some version of it, how cool.
Robin, I saw the original off-Broadway cast of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well….. in a little cabaret in the Village. Also, memorized that album, and many years later, directed a production. If you listen to the Broadway channel on Sirius (which I do), they sometimes play selections from a revival production. Can’t decide what my Friday song will be–if I go with “Jackie” I will need something that’s “…cute, cute, cute in a stupid ass way.”
How lovely, I am jealous!
Last night was listening to the funny Scott Walker version of Jackie.

I didn’t report my SOTD for the CP (Ne me quitte pas) is Ysatis by Givenchy
Also some of Givenchy makeup including a beautiful lippy in Framboise Velours.
Ysatis – you smell wonderful!
I am smelling more elegant than I actually look. This is a beauty. I have a mini perfume and a treasure each drop.
It is. I went through many a bottle along with big shoulder pads.
I’ve heard of Jacques Brel but am unfamiliar with his music. Today I’m wearing Aura for the nth rainy day in a row. Not looking to clear up anytime soon but I’m home being a domestic goddess today so I don’t have to get out.
“domestic goddess” this line made my morning
I don’t know who came up with the term “domestic goddess”, although Nigella Lawson used it as the name of a cookbook, but it always makes me think of Roseanne Barr (who was supposed to have a tv series with that name) and what I think is her best joke: “As a housewife, I feel that if the kids are still alive when my husband gets home from work, then hey, I’ve done my job.”
Ha! Another line of hers, when no one in the family could find anything but her, was “what do you guys think, that my uterus is a tracking device?”
?
I have never forgotten that…it was from one of her old stand up routines, before she had a show. Cracked me up.
I snort-laughed at this!
Gearing up for tomorrow’s Sephora run. I have no idea on why my new case worker, in spite of telling him I don’t drive, thought I could make it to his office for an appointment. Had to call and a little more forcefully remind him. It’s in my file. Wearing Happy today and hopefully my mood improves.
Hope the day improves Dawn!
Sephora run sounds very fun. We are supposed to get one soon, as part of the Kohl’s “re-branding” or whatever Kohl’s is calling it. This gal will be making a run for sure!
Five days until spring break! I have no idea about the CP, so I’m going to follow my whims al week. Today it’s Philosykos edt, and I smell great.
After whacking my toe into a stool in the dark last night, I’m hobbling around today. My husband’s reply was to say, “This is what happens when you’re over 40”, but I’m only 39! The nerve.
Oooo! The nerve.
I think you need to whack *his* toe 🙂
When my husband says things like that to me, I look him in the eye meaningfully and say, “I know where you sleep, and where the Sharpies are.” ?
Lolol!!
Amazing advice!
Bwahahahahaha! ?
Ouch!
If he was Chinese when he said it, he is correct. You’re 1 y.o. on the day you were born …
I just keep reading this comment over and over. I seriously feel like you’ve opened a portal into a whole new realm. “I was Chinese when I said it.”
Ooh, I think he does know this fact. I won’t remind him. ?
Your poor toe! Hope that it isn’t badly bruised.
Oh that’s painful! Maybe your husband “should sleep with one eye open”..lol. We have that as a running joke in our family about a scary Santa ornament.
Testing SL Tuberose Criminalle today and it is intriguing. Started out as a chilly (minty, I guess) tuberose, but about an hour in it has become more of a Circus Peanut + tuberose. Not particularly heady, which I like bc tuberose is usually too heady for me.
Two teas so far today. Started with a cup lemon-vanilla black tea, which was like an earl grey turned up to 11, and have moved on to AnnE’s delicious version of Fairmont’s Empress tea.
*Tubereuse Criminelle* ugh, Mondays!
Thanks, but no thanks for the TC. Wearing it felt like an ice pick up my nose and rooting around my brain. ??
Thanks for this mini-review! It helps with my FOMO; I went with Datura Noir over TC when I was trying to choose my SL collection!
I recently tried TC as well, or rather, sniffed it from a card repeatedly. I couldn’t bring myself to put it on. I really like Tuberose, but I couldn’t find it in TC!
I really liked that mentholated top note in TC!
It is a good mint note. I have a love/hate with mint. Sometimes it is amazing and I want to bathe in it (CdG Mint Sherbet), othertimes it is like Vicks vapor rub and I can’t wear it (Diptyque Eau de Minthe)
Me too – I love it!
Tam Dao for me after another night of un-thorough sleep. I got up at one point to look out the window at the big rainstorm that came through during the night, and it was eerily beautiful.
Ugh, hope tonight is better!
We had a big rain / thunder / hail storm yesterday, I was quite disgusted.
LOLing at “disgusted”. Mother Nature, listen up — knock off the hail, okay?! ?
Sorry about the poor sleep, but you smell wonderful!
Oh thank you! Nice to see you here!
Bletch. Hope that you catch some good Zzzzzzzzzzzzzs tonight.
I might have to employ sleep aids (Yogi bedtime tea with a tylenol PM chaser). ?
Ooooooooof. BIG bummer!
Hello everyone! Cannot wait to see Donatella today (will come back later for a proper comment) as I bought FOUR perfumes on Saturday and they are the most incredible bargains for beautiful, beautiful perfumes- I am talking about Masque Milano here ? my local department store has never even had them in stock but now there is a shelf of them at 70% off ? Oh and I love Jacques Brel so today sees me very happy indeed. Good wishes to you all and I will log back on later with further impressions of my new perfumes!
She is waiting for you now!
And glad there is one other person who loves Jacques Brel 🙂
Ooh, thanks Robin! I will report to her shortly. I am so pleased I have new Italian perfume to add, brava Donatella! For Brel, I know his own work but also his work recorded by other artists and there’s a great cabaret singer called Camille O’Sullivan, she’s Irish-French and sings in both English and French, and seeing her perform Brel songs live is an incredible experience. Looking forward to reading lots of comments on Brel this week, thank you for this CP!
This is how I first heard of M. Brel, and I did get a sample of Montecristo after reading this: http://www.thenonblonde.com/2014/02/masque-milano-montecristo.html#.Yksw1SjMKUk
Wonderful, thank you!
Wearing Sonoma Scent Studio Wood Violet. It’s trying to be spring but still a little chilly, but I wanted to get started on my “spring” perfumes.
I would say VERY chilly. Want some spring now!
In AC Iris Rebelle for International Carrot Day! ?
Happy Monday!
Perfect! Happy Monday!
?
Happy Monday to you! How was the family birthday get-together?
Thank you, Jalapeno! The family gathering went quite nice. My nephew especially enjoyed a lot!
Whoo hoo! ??
Yesterday I had a bad customer service experience at the grocery store. All over a 2 dollar coupon. Today I decided to go back and speak to the manager. ( I would have just ate the 2 bucks had I not been treated so rudely) the manager was very nice and offered me a 15 dollar gift card, which I accepted.
I feel bad though because I am fairly certain that my sotd set off a sneezing fit by the manager! I am wearing Dolce and Gabbana Pour Femme. It is very perfumey!
Glad you went back and got the giftcard. There is just no excuse for rudeness.
I’m also glad you went back. Lately it seems like politeness had taken a back seat to rudeness and laziness; there is no customer service anymore. And thrilled you wore “perfumey” perfume!
Good for you! Bad service is rife nowadays.
What is it with so many people having bad customer service experiences lately? I’m hearing about it much more than I used to.
Good for you on getting some satisfaction!
Employees don’t care anymore. I heard on the radio that 50% of millennials and Gen z would quit a job if it interferes with their enjoyment of life. They aren’t afraid of losing their jobs or getting written up. ( to be clear, if you hate your job I think you should leave, but don’t stay and torture other people with your bad attitude)
I think a lot of us here at NST have worked in crap jobs or had horrible employers and just dealt it with. Having fun is what your time off is/was for.
My Dad had a funny but rather profane saying that explained it perfectly.
OK, that should be “dealt with it”. Getting a little late to be posting coherently! ?
Glad you went back and glad the manager saw fit to try to fix the situation.
I had shockingly bad customer service related to a perfume purchse from a clothing brand recently. So much so, so that I thought I must have misunderstood the CS rep the first time and tried to clarify, but nope, they were full on blaming me for a glitch caused by their order system. I sent the purchase back and won’t buy from them again. (Which means I have to find the bottle I want on ebay, but so be it).
Now I am curious as to which clothing brand it was. But I understand why you don’t want to name names.
I won’t name names, but I’m not above narrowing the suspects: it was a haute lingerie brand whose new perfume line has, IMO, a very pretty bottle design
A bad customer experience can suck the joy out of any new purchase.
Good for you, lillyjo! You probably did the manager good by clearing his sinuses!
It was hard to go back because I hate confrontation so much. I’m glad I did though.
Listening to Billie Holiday and eagerly anticipating a perfume package today. 🙂
Just in time to confess!?
HA, but no, that is for 2nd quarter 🙂
I’m in VCA Bois d’ Iris.
We rewatched Point Break last night with the teenager. I hadn’t seen it in so long. That combined with the sound of rain all night long gave me strange dreams.
I was looking around on the Chanel site yesterday and spied their Vanille body massage oil. Has this been talked about here and I missed it? Has anyone tried it? It is expensive (of course it is, it’s Chanel), but it’s an 8 oz bottle. If I had a money tree, I would be all over that.
You smell wonderful!
I tried the oil a while ago in store and it was luxurious and velvety and smelled great. I didn’t get it because of the price, but I certainly wouldn’t have minded a bottle.
Yesterday was interesting. I took two bras back to my local nordies and the store had an ongoing robbery and there was pepper spray released.
I started coughing and everyone ran outside. I thought I would pass out. Anyhow – we all got out and water was being served up and I came home and got out of my clothes and watched my face and hands – put in eyedrops. side effect – bad headache and peppery tongue. The handbag thief was caught.
Whew.
Commando so far. Getting second booster this afternoon.
Also, Vitamin C Day – so eat your gummies and slap on your face!
YIKES. Hope the booster doesn’t add much discomfort.
Glad you are safe, apsara – bad experience for an innocent shopper!! I think too that as a perfumista, you should get credit for “peppery tongue.” I think I know what you mean.
really, it was like when I tested TF ebene fume, but different!
I’m laughing at you TF comment, but horrified at your story. Glad you are safe!
Very scary! I am glad you are safe.
Oh my! That’s what you expect at a protest, not at Nordstrom. I am very surprised, but I guess I shouldn’t be, there have been so many of these grab & go robberies lately.
I marched many a mile in the 60s and never encountered pepper spray.
It was upsetting for oh so many reasons.
My arm is now officially sore after 5 hours.
Hope the sore arm is the worst of it!
Wow, that was dramatic!
Egads! That’s crazy!
Oh my! Glad you are safe though!
The countdown is on to my move, on Saturday! It’s been a weekend of decluttering, packing, and moving little bits of things and more fragile items to the new place. It’s a complete hot mess right now, I won’t pretend I have this under control at all!
So this week I’m just going to wear whatever I catches my eye while packing. We’ll see what’s left out by Friday!
Robin, like you, I’m looking for a missing bottle. It’s Bois Farine; no clue where I’ve tucked it away. Definitely hoping it will turn up this week.
Forgot to say, my SOTD is vintage Samsara EDT. I will procrastinate from packing by researching the date on this bottle! ?
Bois de Jasmin has a great article on vintage Samsara bottles. I was going to find it but something’s up with my server/her blog…hope it’s not to do with ugly world events.
She closed it. I was on her class yesterday (a make up for the iris one that I missed) and she said something about others copying her work with no attribution and new interests!
That’s a damn shame.
Oh wow, that’s so so sad!! Her site is such a treasure.
Thank you, hajisuuri. This is quite a surprise and I know lots of us will miss her wonderful site. Best wishes for Ms Victoria’s continued success through her unique voice. ???
so sorry to read this.
I managed to find two other blogs with lots of info about Guerlain batch codes, and determined that my Samsara is from 1997.
A very good year!
You smell great! Glad you had some time for bottle research.
Oh no, I do hope it turns up!
Good luck with the move!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Dear friends, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to come see what you all have been up to on NST! I hope you are well. I see I am just in time for the damage poll, which I always love reading! I’m reveling in Chergui today.
I’m starting week three in my exciting new job, and everything is going…fine. Great people (smart, interesting, nice), interesting work. I do miss my old colleagues a lot, and I miss the privileges of working at a rich corporation (my new workplace is, like, more of a research institution, and money is way tighter; also, afaict, this building hasn’t changed in the 50 years since it was built). Still, I’m super excited to be excited about work for the first time in years!
Less exciting has been the transition to working from work, after almost exactly two years of working from home (from 9 March 2020 to 11 March 2022). Thankfully, though, I can bike to work, since the new place is only five miles away. I’ve brought a couple bags of samples of perfumes I haven’t been able to wear these past two years because my husband hates them. It’s been so fun dressing myself in incense and smoke these past couple weeks.
Anyway, I look forward to reading through your comments, and hope to get back into the habit of following along with your lives through perfume 🙂
Sending a *big wave* and so glad to hear your new job is good. As a love of vintage things, I bet there are some fun design features in a “time capsule” 50 year old building, maybe, kinda, sorta?!?
Thanks MossyBerry, and so nice to see you again! There are definitely some interesting things about a very old building 🙂 thank you for this positive reframing of something I thought of as a negative!
Good to see you here, Koyel.
Thank you, you too, Aurora! Hope things are well on your side of the pond!
So glad to hear your job is going so well, that’s wonderful news. Being super excited to go in, plus being able to bike, just those 2 things are huge.
Thanks, Robin! I agree, those are the two best things for me! It’s good to read your posts again 🙂
Welcome back! So glad to hear things are going well.
Thanks cazaubon! It’s good to see you here. Last week, I went through a bunch of incense samples you sent me and thought of you! (I’ve barely been able to wear them for the past two years, thanks to the husband’s sensitive nose 🙁 )
Welcome back!
Thanks, Holly!
Welcome back! Good to hear that things are going well for you.
Thank you, Jalapeno 🙂 I enjoyed reading about all the tasty foods you have and will eat!
Glad to hear the new job is going well! And I do hope the windows in the 50-year-old building open. My spouse works in a building that’s just over 50 years old, and done in the brutalist style so popular back then. It was supposed to be a modern, self-contained ventilation system, but really it’s just too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, and has stale, recycled air.
But — one of his colleagues who just retired kept all his furnishings just exactly as they were issued 50 years ago, and it was a real time capsule. Also, his building occasionally turns into “Juvenile Court” for various TV shows and movies.
Thanks, ockeghem! Yep, this is one of those brutalist buildings. The windows don’t open, but I suspect the HVAC system has been updated at some point, based on your description.
Sorry to hear you’ve caught COVID 🙁 I hope your symptoms are very mild!
Welcome back, Koyel. Glad things are going well!
Thank you, hajusuuri 🙂 it’s nice to be back!
Nice to see you, Koyel! Glad your new job is going well. Do you have “Bee” with you in your samples?
Thanks, Gail! And excellent memory 🙂 I didn’t bring Bee in this round, but after a couple more weeks, I’ll swap out these two bags of samples for some others, and I am sure it’ll make it here in that batch!
So nice to hear from you, and I’m so happy to hear you’re settling into your new job!
Thank you, tulipani 🙂
I never quite understood all that song is about even though I’m French but I love it all the same
https://youtu.be/VakkMDarFDQ
Ispent the day in l’Occitane Osmanthus, lovely but poor longevity, I will finish the bottle – I have two – in the summer.
This evening it’s Amour Parfum from a gold bottle, mostly incense and vanilla, I wonder if Vanagloria smells similar.
Off to tackle Donatella.
Thank you for this link! And for mentioning Amor Amor last week- I own it now ?- and if you are near a branch of Fenwick department store (or if any other readers in England see this, there are some gems in their spring sales) well that is where I saw the shelf of hugely discounted Masque Milano. There were also some Perris Monte Carlo bottles which again I have not seen in store…wonder what’s going on, but it was a very happy perfume find.
So glad you got some great deals, off to Google Fenwick.
Bickering about where to go!
https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Jacques-Brel/Vesoul/translation/english
You sum it up really well.
That Amour Parfum wasn’t around for very long, was it?
That’s right, it was a limited edition.
It was freezing today, so i first wore L´Air de Rien in the morning for work and now vintage Shalimar EdT for the evening. Feeling very tired, because i slept badly and too short, but nevertheless managed a 2mile walk after work for some fresh air. Will go to bed early to get more sleep this night hopefully
Yay for fresh air, especially when scented with L’Air de Rien and/or Shalimar edt!
Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan for me today. I have a pilates class later today, so I like to keep it light so that I don’t choke anyone out. Like this one becuase i can apply it again in a few hours and won’t be overpowering. Super pretty in the beginning of spring.
Also burning a DW Home Sunflower & Clover candle that I found at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I either spent too much on a candle, or I want to spend under $10. Usually the under $10, lol. Am working on a 1 in 1 out policy, so trying to burn them down so I can get more. I am also trying to finish up my winter themed candles that are already halfway burned. It’s a project 🙂
Perfect choice!
I am just deciding today if it’s time to go back to the gym. I know many of you have already gone back and probably some others, like me, not yet.
Cloudy, cool day. I did a couple of hours of “clip, clip here; clip, clip there,” and a couple of tra-la-las for my still sleepy and wet yard this morning. SotD is testing a sample of House of Oud’s Crop 2021; well it is just my thing, but price is *gulp.* Donatella will have to wait a couple of quarters to see what mischief I might get up to.
I say get it as a reward for getting your yard all prepared for spring!
We shall take this suggestion under advisement! 😀
Love Jacques Brel and I’m thinking of his last years spent living in the Marquesas Islands on Hiva Oa ( he is buried close to Gaugin). Wearing Nuit de Tubereuse.

Great read, thanks Kanuka!

An article about the Prado museum creating scents to in response to a Brueghel painting
Thanks for the article!
You smell fantastic!
Quand On n’a Que L’Amour seems to call for Kenzo Amour. A lovely and timely song.
Woke up to steady snow falling. Continued until about an hour ago, but the inch of snow that had collected on our deck is already gone. The back lawn still has some cover, but I expect that to be gone by tomorrow. The sun seems to be on an extended spring break. We’ve had a lot of gloomy days and forecast looks to be same.
Meanwhile it’s going to be 90 degrees here in CA on Thursday. Nuts!
Nuts and TOO HOT ?
Especially this early in the year! Ack!
Jacques Brel was Belgian, but that’s next door to France, so I think something classically French would be appropriate. With that in mind, I’m starting the week in Mitsouko.
He seemed to like France better than Belgium anyway.
I’m in a dab of Lilac Dream thus far, but am itching to reek havoc. Could be spring fever, or could be that l am experiencing lilac overload. It’s a great lilac soliflore, but perhaps too much when inhaled close up for a long period. I wonder how it would work when paired with other spring soliflores – could be fun!
Maybe wear lilac perfumes further away from your nose? I know this sounds facetious, but I’ve done it with a couple of scents that really like to hang on and be a little too present.
Ah – it wasn’t where I applied but how I kept sticking my nose in! I couldn’t believe how real it smelled!
Gotcha! A realistic lilac *is* a thing of beauty.
On the road north today, wearing Acqua di Parma Profumo, a beautiful classic chypre.
Did I catch you on your last day in the US? Have a good trip north!
Yes, we left San Diego this morning. Thanks!
Safe travels Cazaubon!
Hope that your trip is an uneventful and safe one! ??
Hope all goes well with the move!
Best of luck and good wishes!
Safe travels!
I found my in-use bottle of Bendelirious, and wore it yesterday, today, and most probably tomorrow as well!
God knows,my nose needs to be drenched in this force of bubbly, fizzly aldehydes and champagne bubbles and cherries for as long as needed. My olfactive anti-depressant,it seems to do the trick(along with new meds, which kinda sorta kicked me into 7th gear today!)
Happy week to you all!
XO’s?
Sounds like your Monday was pretty darn good!
It was soooo good, thank you Jalapeno!
Happy tears because something is changing for the better of me.
xo’s
This makes me happy for you!?
+1 for this!
Love it that you are finding your balance!
Glad you found your bottle! It sounds like a fantastic and fun scent!
Good to see that you’ve found meds (and a scent!) that work for you!
Yay for Bendelirious, yay for meds that work!
I don’t think II de ever heard the music of Jacques Brel, so I’ll have to fix that this week.
For most of this week, I’m going to wear perfumes that I’ve been on the fence with and try to figure out for each of them (said in Heidi Klum’s voice a la the old Project Runway), are you in or are you out?
First to be deemed OUT is Jo Malone Tuberose Angelica decant. I actually do like the scent but find it very similar to L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse, and sadly some shared aromachemical in both irritates my nose now. So I’ll plan to list for swap as a package deal my partial L’Artisan bottle and JM decant.
Oops, wish there was an edit button. Sometimes the Swype function on my phone keyboard makes interesting mistakes. That should be “I don’t think I’ve ever heard…”
Sorry, still no edit after all these years!!
And quite by coincidence, Mr. Jalapeno was prepping carrots in the kitchen earlier today! Maybe I will grab one as a snack later on. ?
A chilly Monday after a busy weekend. We finally exchanged Xmas gifts with some friends on Saturday, plus went out to lunch with them for sushi. ????
Then on Sunday Mr. Jalapeno got up at an ungodly early hour for a half day fishing trip. He did catch some shad, but nobody had remembered to bring a cooler for this fish, so all the fish were released safely back into the water.
Today was prep work on a pork shoulder that we will be smoking later on in the week. Rub has been applied and the meat is going to stay in the fridge for at least 24 hours. This has turned into quite the food-centric post today…
SOTD = ELdO 500 Years, from the sample stash. I bounced back to this after a weekend spent in AS Saturday.
Mmm, very glad you have such good things to eat!
Thanks DolceVita! I had some of the best calamari I’ve ever eaten at that Japanese restaurant. Nice and tender, not chewy at all.
your foodie weekend sounds like it was fun though!???
It was! I hadn’t seen those friends since last October, and they live only about 30 minutes’ drive away from me.
Your name is foodie ?
I am lucky that I don’t have to eat bad food. I am also lucky that I can eat…
It makes me so happy that the fish were released ?
The fish thank you! ???
Christmas in April sounds fun to me!
I do “off-season Christmas” about as often as I do regular Christmas anymore!
Commando today, but could still smell the Vivid Gardenia soap on my skin this morning. This is a good thing, as I now have COVID along with the rest of my household. (Well, Ockeghem Tween finished her self-isolation this morning.) Day 3 and I do keep sneaking sniffs of anything I should be able to sniff, just to make sure the nose is working. We didn’t even leave the province…we just took a trip out east where masking is less prevalent…and that was all it took. Sigh.
I only know Jacques Brel by name. I’ll have to remedy that this week. 🙂
Oh no!!! Sending you “Get Well” wishes!
Fingers crossed that your symptoms stay mild.
Oh no! Rest up and heal well!
Oh dear! I hope everyone is feeling better soon!
I received a text from my niece that she was exposed to covid at a work event last week. She then passed it on to my sister and several other family members at family party (all inadvertently, before she knew). Thankfully they are all vaxxed and boosted, but still was not great (according to my sister, anyways). They avoided it for 2 years and bam! I’m still wearing my N95 mask here in BC.
Yeah, we’re still wearing N95s / N99s and following the old rules for masking. People in the Okanagan looked at us like we were from another planet, though. 🙂
I’d say only 10 – 20 percent of people where I live are masking up in the grocery store, etc. now.
Depending on where you are up here, that’s not far off. In Vancouver, I’d say it’s still 50/50, or even slightly titled towards masking, even with the removal of restrictions. But the restrictions just came off a couple weeks ago.
Yeah, I bet! I’m in the Okanagan. I’ve seen those people!
I hope your family’s all okay now!
Yeah, we did see some people who were masking out there, but it seemed to be the minority. More people in Vancouver are going without, too. I’m just not there yet…well, especially now. 🙂
Well drat, I was afraid of that. Get better soon!
SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue
Close enough to carrots. I may just end up doing an iris week!
On recommendations here and on IG, I got a set of Clandestine Labs samples. They seem well made. So far, I’ve only tried Film Noir and I am so tempted to just buy it…but I will hold off! 13 more to go!
In cable internet news, it’s still a no go. The modem / router looks fine but somehow the wireless is not circulating internet. This after spending over 3 hours yesterday with a technician (over the phone). I will try again either later or tomorrow. Ugh!
Sorry to hear about the persistent internet troubles! That’s so frustrating. But glad to hear about “Iris Week”! You started it off in style!
Won’t they send somebody out?
That sucks, having router/modem issues. You aren’t dealing with Comca$t by any chance, are you?
SOTD is Metal Chypre from Juliette Has a Gun. Not the biggest fan of chypre fragrances, but I am enjoying this one tonight.
I love an old school chypre, but don’t always love modern chypres.
I actually thought of wearing my carrot seed oil today when I first woke up. It was cold enough for it! Instead I wore 4160 Tuesdays New York 1955 for the raspberry note, oversprayed of course. That seems to be how I can get these scents to last on my skin.
I have been using the carrot seed oil mixed with lotion on my legs, it layers nicely with whatever else I am wearing 🙂
I meant to post earlier that I thought of both of you this morning when I heard it was Carrot Day!
I too wore my Gail inspired carrot seed oil mixed with Jojoba oil and doused myself in I Love Les Carrottes. Then this afternoon when all that had worn off, I doused in Iris Silver Mist.
And I might join hajusuuri in a week of iris fragrance. Great idea!
Thank you, Robin…I am a huge Brel fan and can’t wait to start matching up my scents to songs!!!
Did a Trader Joe’s run today….was completely out of anything green in my veggie bin! Now, I’ve got goodies for a while, just need to cook.
SOTD–Marnie Rose (picked before I checked on the CP)–not something the women in the song “Amsterdam” would wear….too pretty, not spicy enough!!
