It's Tuesday and World Water Day. Happy 91st to Mr. William Shatner! What fragrance are you wearing?
My community project today is from Dealer's Choice edition 2, and it comes from chocolatemarzipan8: "NST camaraderie" (wear a fragrance that was given to you by an NSTer). So thanks to a very kind reader, I'm in original Bvlgari Omnia. My matchy-matchy tea is Upton Yunnan Golden Monkey brewed with cacao husks and finished with a splash of cream and a sprinkling of nutmeg.
Reminder: 3/25 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 6 (variation)...pick a project you liked from a past Dealer's Choice project, and do that project. You can find prior editions (and choose your project by looking through the comments) here....edition 1, edition 2, edition 3, edition 4 or edition 5.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the new Wedgwood x Sheila Bridges Picnic Teapot. "Enjoy pouring tea from this beautiful Wedgwood x Sheila Bridges bone china teapot. Featuring a picnic scene from Harlem Toile de Jouy, the print climbs over the lid. Drawing inspiration from a rich culture and history, the white base features pops of color and a bold black outline, finished with an unexpected backstamp." $325 at Bloomingdales. (You can read more about this collection, and see the rest of the pieces, at the Wedgwood website.)
My theme for the week is things I bought on vacation, and there are quite a few of them to choose from, because I would regularly buy a scent as a memento of a trip; I think most people spend a little more freely while on vacation, and I would let myself buy something I mightn’t otherwise have. Today I’m in SL Feminité du Bois, which I bought at the duty-free shop at Narita Airport on our way out of Japan in 2012. It sounds like the name of a drag queen but is resolutely unisex and immediately identifiable as Lutens — spiced cooked fruit and a *lot* of cedar, so much cedar.
I like that theme!
Good morning!
I have decided that my theme for the week will be “Flavourtown” (Wear fragrances that are sweet, sour, bitter etc.)
Sotd is Candy (Sweet).
Currently drinking mocha, extra cocoa.
Robin, your tea sounds delishhhh!
Oh, that’s a good theme!
It is pretty good tea 🙂
But mocha with extra cocoa must rival mine!
I’m still stuck on poetry day which I’ve decided to make poetry week. So, for those tired of the weight of their own body mass and that weak force called gravity, I give you Jane Hirschfield, another of my favorite poets.
Harness
BY JANE HIRSHFIELD
“Little soul,
you and I will become
the memory
of a memory of a memory.
A horse
released of the traces
forgets the weight of the wagon.”
SOTD is Ummagumma because I love every bit of it, but especially the incense-y dry down.
“A horse
released of the traces
forgets the weight of the wagon”
— that is really beautiful, even if I am not sure it is true.
good morning, friends.
Commando until later. I am going to drive ALL the way to Riverside to have dinner with a former colleague from the house of many fragrances and beauty products. She is visiting her sister, so we are meeting at halfway point, The Mission Inn.
Maybe will wear EL Infinite Sky as a nod to her generosity. Plus it is a lovely fragrance.
Have a lovely dinner apsara!
SOTD is Lampblack for my Mislaid Intentions theme. I acquired the Fzotic discovery set a few years ago, mostly for purposes of trying Feu Secret and Ummagumma but also to slake my curiosity about Lampblack, and fully intending to give the whole set equal time. Flash forward, and until today I failed to give Lampblack my full attention. But no more! I spritzed fairly liberally and am enjoying it very much. Mr. G approves also — his initial impression (early on in its development) was “nice … kind of citrussy” (he meant citrus peel, not juice) and I had to agree, although the thought probably wouldn’t have occurred to me. I’m getting more of a dark, inky incense now that some time has passed. Very nice!
Lampblack is amazing and you smell wonderful!
Thanks!
Repeating for anyone who missed the weekend poll:
Reader Glannys, along with her mom and her cat, is safely out of Ukraine and now in a borrowed apartment in Malmö. A group of perfumistas is doing what they can to help her get established. If you’re able to help, see the instructions here:

Hi guys,
Time for another update. We are still sick but definitely recovering. Finally no fever, but still some other symptoms of cold. We will need to stay indoors at least tomorrow in case this is covid.
Thanks again to all for you – for your kind words, donations, information. Whatever you did, thank you. War is a horrible and tragic thing, but it also made me realize how many good people are out there. Whenever I began to doubt whether we can do it, I thought of all the people who rooted for us, and it helped me stay calm and keep going.
I think someone wanted to know what scents I took. You will probably be disappointed but I just grabbed some random samples in a hurry. I will post the list later.
So happy you all are feeling a bit better as far as the cold goes.
Terrible perfumes ya that I am, I don’t care what scents you took! I’m just glad you took the most important things: yourself, your mom, and your cat! Perfumes can be replaced, and I’m sure many here would help you do that.
Everyday I come to NST looking for a post from you! Thank you for updating us all.
Deva, I wanted to know myself what I had grabbed .? I have not been wearing a scent for more than a week (maybe two), but once we are able to finally wash our clothes properly, I will wear something.
Happy to see you here!
XO’s✌??????
Here is the list:
1 Heeley Sel Marin
2 Creed Sublime Vanille
3 VC&A Ambre Imperial
4 Jo Malone Basil&Neroli
5 MCG Elephant&Roses
6 Lancome Parfait de Roses
1 is the last few mils of my mini bottle. I sold the mini and just decanted a little for myself.
I do like 2 & 3, nice.
4-6 – untried samples.
I missed your last update, so I didn’t know you were unwell. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and I’m glad to know you are safe.
I hope you feel better soon!
I really appreciate you keeping us posted on how you are doing.
That the least I can do in return for everyone’s kindness.
Didn’t know you were sick on top of all the changes you had to go through, take good care of yourself, hope you and your mother will recover quickly.
Wonderful to hear from you again, and hope you feel better soon. Be patient with your body, it’s probably processing a lot!
Hey hey Glannys! I hope you all recover soon and it sounds like it will be the case. Your perfume grab and go looks mighty interesting. Enjoy them!
Glad to hear that you and your Mom are recovering from a cold/The Crud. Hopefully your sweet kitty doesn’t have a kitty cold to match.
Hi Glannys, I was so glad to hear you made it to Sweden safely, with your mom and your cat! I hope you feel better soon.
So glad to hear you are ok and hope you and your mom feel better soon.♥️
While trying to follow the project theme “just use it up”, I found my sample of Byredo Flowerhead. I didn’t manage to use it all up, but a new theme emerged: “do I really need this?” It’s been near the top of my buy list for awhile now, but today it seems pleasant but not that magical.
My son is home sick with my husband, so maybe I’m just sulky because I’d rather be home with them, cuddling and watching too many movies!
Interesting, because that is one of the few Byredos I really liked. So maybe I just need to keep trying it too 🙂
Theme for today? “Ohhh. Now I get it.” My perfume is Hongkong Oolong, which I was totally meh about (and gave most of it away) but now I love it!
That theme worked for me today too.
Usually the opposite happens. Some perfume I’ve gotten myself all worked up about suddenly gets irritating, or boring. This one I did not understand. Why would someone want to smell like this, I kept asking myself. Today? it is AMAZING. Oh well. I am fickle.
Maybe the trick is to give most of it away first 🙂
No kidding. This one is sold in 15 ml bottles, so at least it doesn’t take long to give most of it away 😉
It was a Monday-Tuesday,with all the drama you can expect from a blue Monday after the blissful looong weekend I had!
SOTD!
Kayali Eden Juicy Apple.
The opening is such a gorgeous true juice red apple, but I do detect a fairly chemical drydown, and something about that bothers me.It’s near the bug-spray territory in the drydown, the same happens with Mure et Musc extreme on my skin.
Happy Tuesday!
Yes to the chemical drydown. I retried it and it bothered me too.
Is it Wednesday yet? Lol
21:55 Tuesday evening.??✌?
Had to change the puppy’s vet appointment from tomorrow to Thursday morning. My grandmother called and said that she set up appointments that she needed a ride to. We had marked on her calendar that we were not going to be available but she ignored it. My family wants to scream. Wearing Givenchy III today.
Sorry Dawn!!
I’m going back to a suggestion of Love at Second or Third sight…. Wearing Narciso (white cube) which I didn’t care for when it first came out, despite the raves. I passed on a chance to get an autographed bottle at Bloomies during a Narciso appearance. A year later, I sniff at duty free and found it creamy and lovely. Ended up with a small bottle.
I’m procrastinating calling insurance company to dispute their non coverage. Fire is going and kitting is laying in front of it, snoring away. I had very James Bondish dreams last night…watched part of Spectre, which must have carried over. Bizarre.
LOL since Robin linked Dealer’s Choice 2nd ed. above, I clicked and read all the posts from that day. You chose the same perfume and assigned a similar theme back in 2017! Cracking me up 😀 (and reading this post gave me serious deja vu)
Smelling divine!
Lol. I’m nothing if not consistent and boring. I need to get more creative for the rest of the week!
I was on the phone with the insurance company for over an hour. Most of that was me sitting doing other stuff, while the other person investigated and opened a dispute. Such a bizarre thing…seems that the NY health marketplace told them my husband wasn’t covered in 2020. Well gee, then why was I paying premiums that included him? Sigh.
Yuck on having to deal with insurance shenanigans.
Comforted to read Glannys’ update, and hope you feel better soon.
Here’s a giggle from today’s birthday boy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lul-Y8vSr0I
Just back from yoga, so will peruse samples now.
Holy freaking cow. I think I saw that once and put it out of my head.
I had only heard of this over the years. Thanks for the link!
Haha!Thanks for the link!
That is worth the price of admission in six ways!
ZOMG, that shirt! That tux!
Looks like I will be doing a week of Pretty: today I am in CdG Carnation and Douceur de Siam, on different arms. Both already needed to be topped up, so since I am going into work tomorrow will try Puredistance Antonia then, as that has more staying power.
A week of pretty sounds like a great idea.
Doing a week of “samples that are on my desk” – this time Diptyque Tam Dao. Not a new scent to me, but one I keep thinking I’ll buy when i am at Nordstroms but get a sample instead.
“Samples that are on my desk” is a right up my alley! Also, “samples that I found on the floor under my desk”.
Dealers Choice
Sample something new
Stopped by Bloomies and tried Rose Almalfi by TF
What’s the verdict?
It’s nice. The dry down is a little too sweet
I prefer Rose Prick
I have a very simple theme – what am I in the mood for right now? That happens to be 31 Rue Cambon.
??
I can’t expend any effort this morning on review, so I’m just going to make up a theme that suits me: Scents I’ve Never Even Heard of Before. SOTD: Claus Porto 1 (I thought they only made nice soaps), courtesy of a generous mystery sample package from pixel! How much do I love you all? These days, you seem like the best people on the planet.
Its other title is Agua Vetiver, and it has notes of bergamot, lavender, galbanum, vetiver, pine needle, cedar, and the list goes on. I should be walking along a coast in Portugal (and not just because of the scent — I’d really rather be there right now).
Wait, Claus Porto has perfumes too? Do they smell…soapy?
Perfumer Lyn Harris is the reoorted nose on these,by the way!
Thanks for the info! I will store that in my memory for all of eleven minutes — the extent of my ability to remember anything these days — and will no doubt need to rely on you at some point in the future…. 🙂
Is she a favorite perfumer of yours?
My exact response. They don’t smell soapy, but the two I’ve tried so far do have a distinct “cologne” vibe. Maybe along the lines of Atelier Cologne.
Wearing Bleu Ambree on this blustery day. Looking forward to my job interview this afternoon.
Good luck!
Fingers crossed for your interview.
Good luck with that interview! ????
I hope the interview went well!
Sampling two from the newish EL luxury line: Tender Light and Sensuous Stars.
Tender Light definitely has tea which is not my favorite note but it’s quite lovely here w/ citrus and iris.
Sensuous Stars is a fruity iris also nicely done.
I believe the names of this line drew some ire from the Fragrance Community 😉 or perhaps even that EL felt the need to do an 8 fragrance luxury line at all but, based on my sniffing so far, these are overall well done so kudos for EL for not churning out crap.??
I tried to smell these the other day at Macy’s. I couldn’t though because an SA that I once had a falling out with was there. Maybe she’ll take a vacation soon. Lol.
ehaehaeheh Do tell…when you are ready. 😉
In the dearler’s choice for 2020, many people mentioned comfort in their choices (even when their theme wasn’t directly comfort). So I’ve picked Aromatics in White for comfort. I had a slew of Zoom interviews today, so I wanted something gentle and not too distracting.
You smell wonderful!
Hope you get some good news on the interview front!
Just about to fall asleep this evening as I had an early start.
The weather was so lovely, I chose a citrus scent, I Profumi di Firenze Agrumi di Sicilia, very uplifting but tonight a comfort perfume, Réminiscence Tonka.
Hope it’s a good night’s sleep!
It was , thank you Lillyjo.
Sleep well tonight! ?
It was a Good night sleep, thank you Jalapeno.
This teapot is very lovely.
Do look at the rest of the line, it’s amazing.
Sunny but chilly weather for me here My brain is still slightly mushy from messing around with the new smart phone yesterday. I will return to that task tomorrow. So I did a brainless task today, laundry.
SOTD = still in Au Dela Narcisse. An accompanying CP for it might be either “Use It Up”, or “Get It In Gear And Try This Already!” Both definitely fit. ?
I definitely need to get in gear with some of my samples.
Oh, I still do! ???
Same here with the chilly weather!
Today was one of the few days that actually felt like March around here! Crazy.
Not sure what I might do on Friday, but today, I was using a sample of Cherry Almond shampoo and “match your shampoo” came into my head as a theme. So, SotD is LPRNBP edt Florale. I love both the LPRN Black Perfecto flankers!
I try to match my body wash, bit most of the time I don’t pick a perfume until the last minute.
I’m on the same theme as Robin, but accidentally so, wearing Calligraphy Rose from a very kind NST’er who sent me some samples awhile back. I’m very sorry I can’t remember who it was! It’s a lovely rose scent and I feel sort of subtly glamorous wearing it today, while I am otherwise kind of laid up for the time being. We had big thunderstorms roll through here last night, but no damage or flooding, at least in the suburb where I’m staying for now. It’s clear, sunny, and beautiful outside now in the late afternoon.
You smell wonderful! I hope you are continuing to heal.
It’s slow but I hope so too!
I think that was me, Calypso, and you smell marvelous!
Thank you very much–I like it a lot!
My theme today is ” lucky I bought a bottle before the price went crazy high” I am wearing Alien Essence Absolue. I almost didn’t buy it but the gap was a full size matching body balm. The balm was exquisite. I used every last scoop.
Oh I *bet* that matching body balm was something special!
I just saw my auto correct. That’s supposed to be gwp!
Anyway it was so thick and fragrant! Plus moisturizing. One of the best perfumed body ever.
In Do Son today and liking a perfume and poem CP theme –
Love
Love means to learn to look at yourself
The way one looks at distant things
For you are only one thing among many.
And whoever sees that way heals his heart,
Without knowing it, from various ills
A bird and a tree say to him: Friend.
Then he wants to use himself and things
So that they stand in the glow of ripeness.
It doesn’t matter whether he knows what he serves:
Who serves best doesn’t always understand.
– Czeslaw Milosz
Oh, that’s fantastic, thanks allo!
Day two of my theme, to use samples recommended or given to me by NSTers. I wore Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn, and felt like I was rolling around in freshly cut grass. I can still smell it a tiny bit if I stick my nose down the front of my shirt ;). Thanks Jalapeno!
PSA: I got an email from Teo Cabanel saying it’s last call for Lace Garden, so get your BUBs while you can if you like it! I’ve never bought a BUB because it takes me so long to use things up (I’ve never drained a full bottle), but I’m thinking about it. You can use coupon code LASTCALL for 20% off. I don’t know which of their other scents will be discontinued, if any.
You’re welcome! The Soft Lawn really does smell like a summer day, doesn’t it?
It does! I kinda like waking up to the sound of a distant lawn mower–that also means summer to me.
