It's Tuesday and the 11th day of Christmas (pipers piping), plus World Braille Day and Michael Stipe’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m fighting off the chill in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Le Sazerac.
Reminder: on 1/7, wear a fragrance to match Very Peri, Pantone's color of the year for 2022. ("Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light. We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through.")
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the T for Teapot Silk Eye Mask from Jessica Russell Flint in the UK ("Enjoy mega blackout with this Jessica Russell Flint eye mask, featuring our "T for Teapot" illustration. Made from the softest silk you'll ever touch, this silk eye mask has a piped trim, elasticated satin strap and extra padding for the ultimate comfort."), $50.
Todays photo is for me. I have quite the collection of eye masks and cannot sleep without one. After spraying my magic pillow with lavender, of course.
Early alarm yuk.
Post shower into the vault for some TF Shanghai Lily.
Oh, you smell wonderful. That’s definitely a beautiful eye mask, too.
They do have them in all the letters of the alphabet 🙂
Opened the cabinet and Caron Coup de Fouet was glaring at me, so what could I do but spray some on? Spicy carnations, one of my favourite things ever.
I don’t know what I’m gonna do for Friday. I don’t have anything that feels even remotely periwinkle blue.
Pyramus, I’m right there with you. I don’t think I have anything, so I’ll have to go hunting through samples. And even then, all that blue/purple stuff is just so spring-y, I don’t know how it will be to wear it in deep cold winter.
Go for the description… “Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing”
I went with Oud Pałac today and scheduled my booster shot for next week.

Nice photo!
thanks!
I’m sipping my usual, Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast tea plus Stash decaf chai. I’ll be drinking more tea than usual today; the hubster and I kept each other awake most of the night coughing. Breakfast is cold cereal, not because of the weather, but because it just sounded good. ??♀️
SOTD = Gallivant Berlin on left arm and Mendittorosa Talento on the right. Both are from the delightful sample box from a kind NSTer. ?
Uh oh, coughing! Hope you feel better soon.
2nd that!
Feel better soon!
Blech. Hope that your coughing goes away ASAP.
Thanks everybody! ?
I’m in Ouarzazate, because it was handy.
Plus you smell great.
I’m wearing some vintage Lauren cologne today. A recent find from e*#%bay. It’s an original version (I believe) as it has a Warner Lauren label. It was a love of mine from long ago and I’m happy it’s now joined by collection. The sprayer is a bit wonky but it smells right!
So nice to find an old love again! I should put on some Eau de Givenchy, haven’t worn it in ages.
Oh you should! Another great fragrance! I probably went through 2 or 3 bottles of that one.
I miss the old Eau de Givenchy, reminds me of my 20’s.
Back in OJ Woman today, and having a much calmer day so far. The Woman is complemented by a bit of an animalic from Ajmal that stayed on my shirt from several days ago. It’s a warm combo, but not warm enough for the 20 degree day we’re having…Soup for lunch, I think.
So glad you are having a calmer day!
Hello.
Sotd is Libre Intense. Trying to finish the bottle but I think there are about 3-4 wears left.
Currently drinking decaf coffee.
I am on my third cup of tea and wishing I had a latte, so I salute your decaf!
I went with Tiger’s Nest today because calypso wore it yesterday. It’s perfect for another cold day. Sadly, my decant has been evaporating steadily (I hate that some types of decant bottles are probe to this), so I need to use it before I lose it.
Some of my samples do that, too. I hate that.
I lost my Cuir de Russie decant, which I had been sort of saving, to evaporation. It was in a fancy, milky glass sprayer so I didn’t really notice it going. 🙁
Oh, no! So sorry you lost your CdR.
Hate it when perfumed lovelies fade away like that! ?
Blew through more Ulta points on the no 5 gift set yesterday. Chanel jacked their prices this year. The Les Exclusifs line is at least $50 more than last year. Wearing no 5 edt today. My aunt is sending reports to my grandmother’s doctor and see what our next steps are.
Dawn, I don’t know how I missed the original story about your Grandmother, but I did…even looked through the weekend poll and can’t find it, although I know you mentioned it yesterday. What happened?
She left her house to meet a friend for lunch and she never showed for her lunch date. Instead she thought she was leaving work and blew off the friend and got lost. The police didn’t find her until 10 at night on Sunday. My parents and aunt are talking to her doctor.
Ah, thanks. That’s such a tough situation. I’m really glad they found her the same day though.
SOTD is JM Pomegranate Noir, which has nothing to do with periwinkle, but works well with the grey fog we’re stuck in. In theory, we are due for some sunlight later today.
I’ve finally worked up the nerve to tackle the office closet. Ordered an elfa system yesterday so now I must clean out the closet so the shelves can be installed. Wish me luck, folks, I’m going in….
You’ll love it when it’s done.
Good for you pixel!
Aaack. You are reminding me I need to reorganize our pantry. I lost control a couple of months ago. Hope the Elfa system works out well.
Good luck with the Great Pantry Revamp!
Wearing day 2 of the 4160 Tuesdays January Joy Box sampler, Cherry Who? More of a spring floral with cherry, not very wintery, but fun. Will test my new bottle of Guerlain Bouquet de Paris later.
That box looks so fun! They should do one for February too.
Wearing just a touch of Arabie before therapy. The temperature can stay below freezing all winter as long as we keep getting this gorgeous sunshine ?
Usually, just a touch of Arabie is all that’s needed. You smell warm and spicy!
Arabie is awesome.
So yesterday I did not wear either of the picks I mentioned, and instead went with Cashmere Aura. It provided the nice floral-y accompaniment that I wanted, plus compliments. I remember when I owned a FB of the Mist and I was quite pleased with it.
Today’s picture reminds me of my own sad little sleep mask; it is getting quite stretchy and loose. I used to buy them at our local L&T, but since they’ve left the party, not sure who carries sleep masks nowadays.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/16/cnn-underscored/best-sleep-mask/index.html
Awesome! I shall have to investigate. 🙂
Keeping the rose theme going today in Calligraphy Rose, which is making a mockery of my messy hair and muddy corduroys with its elegant lushness.
That’s one of my favorite rose scents — you smell so good!
Good morning all,
have not posted in a while, but – new year’s resolutions, right!? 🙂
joining in with PdE Equistrius. I did some in person sampling last week in San Francisco and this was top on the sampling list, along with Eau d’Italie’s signature scent, which I have in soap form and really like as a soap. I have now sampled most of PdE at least on paper strips. I think Cuir de Russie remains my favorite!
You mean Cuir Ottoman, right? Not meaning to be pedantic, mostly want to be sure they didn’t release something without my noticing!
I speak in riddles, sorry! My mind has been on Cuir de Russie. But I meant Ambre Russe. Although Cuir Ottoman is a close second. Sorry for the confusion.
I’m not a huge amber fan but I really like Ambre Russe — I call it my “ginger biscuits amber.”
Oh my, now I’m interested!
Had an appointment in the city centre and went to sniff a couple of new things.
My take: FM Synthetic Jungle: Very nice. On skin.
CdG Rouge: very nice on paper and stayed that way, CdG
Copper dried down to too much ?ambroxan
Memo Russian Leather on skin inspired by Majokkobiachan yesterday, not as much lavender as expected from her post.
And as usual: despite high hopes Byredo Mumbai Noise: synthetic mess on me, in drydown smells pretty similar to Passage d’Enfer. Diptyque Kyoto smelled nice on the back of my hand but then gave me a rash. First time this has happened.
Wow, not what I would expect from Mumbai Noise! (Although admittedly I did not have your high hopes.)
So sorry you got a rash, that’s awful.
Perfume rashes are horribly unnerving, aren’t they?
I once got a rash exactly in the shape of the atomizer spray from my bottle of Rahat Loukoum, so I (*sob*) avoided it for a year or more. Then, when I cautiously and then increasingly incautiously re-tried it, no rash. Mysterious…
After several days of unusually hot weather, which has had everyone amazed, we’re back to cooler temperatures today. That’s not entirely a bad thing, I had been planning to do lots of tidying up around the house over the holidays, and was far too hot to be bothered over the last few days 🙂
Post-shower today, I’ll wear Fort and Manle’s Fatih Sultan Mehmed, my one FB for the quarter that I’ve just confessed to Donatella.
Our cold weather has me amazed, *sobs*
j/k, we’re just having normal January weather so I am jealous of everyone who isn’t.
Ended up dragging the spare mattress outside last night so I could sleep on the deck and keep cool. Would have been perfect except it confused the dogs who kept checking on me ( muzzling my neck), attempting to rescue me ( nudging me), hoping to join me ( trying to get under the covers), deciding a midnight feast would be good ( barking hopefully for a biscuit). No stars but wonderful scents, hedgehogs shuffling and cool breeze. Woken before five by birds and back to bed. Wearing Rochas Girl which I have been reaching for this summer. It’s fresh at first ( citrus) then creamy floral.
Hope you can sleep better tonight but the dogs checking on you is funny.
Sleeping outside sounds lovely, except for the worried dogs. LOL. Bless their hearts.
Kanuka, are sleeping porches (2nd story screened porches) a thing there?
They’re hardly a thing here anymore, but they were when I was young and air conditioning was more rare than it is now.
No. I just sleep outside either on the open verandah/deck or on the lawn. It’s too cold here ( really) for screened porches and it’s rarely muggy. We don’t have mosquitos either.
I love sleeping outside. Ever since I rafted the Grand Canyon and spent two weeks just sleeping outside without a tent. It’s so freeing! The poor dogs…excited and confused and protective.
Oo, rafting the Grand Canyon must have been a dream!
LOL about the hovering dogs!
Happy New Year, everyone!
1) SOTD: Gucci Memoire. Perfect almondy/herbal WFH scent.
2) Went skiiing over the NYE weekend with friends and we were rewarding with fireworks on the mountain and too much apres-ski Champagne cocktails. It was perfect.
3) Wrapped up business at the old job- did one last report, and turned in all of my equipment. Yes, I get severance pay- a week of pay per year, so I get 8 years worth. BUT will be taxed at 22% on top of everything else- bummer, to be sure! But better than nothing!
4) And back to work at my NEW job. Just saw a colleague suggest a fix that was bit extreme; had to jump in and suggest a more efficient and quicker fix w/o taking the user out of commission for long.
5) I still somehow have my hardware holiday job- they need people to close and it’s just me after 5 in that department. Meh, they need the help and I honestly would be on my bottom watching TV. More sitting is exactly what I do not need.
How are you?
Memoire is a nice choice for all occasions. I would not mind a bottle.
It’s so good!
So nice to hear about your lovely ski weekend, that sounds perfect! And like a perfect way to use your severance pay 🙂
How much longer do you think you’ll do the hardware? I waitressed for YEARS after having a full time professional job, just couldn’t stop.
It was so nice to have a nice winter getaway!
I am going to give myself until May- the change of pace is nice, I am learning all sorts of skills, and the money is easy and much appreciated. Yes, I get home tired, but it’s a good tired- I fix screen doors, make keys, mix paint colors, clean & tidy the various store sections. And I am only there for 20 hours max a week- long enough to do stuff; short enough to not get sick of it.
That does sound fun, esp. if you’re learning things. Plus, hardware and paint discount!
it was cool and raining today, so i chose Empreinte. If its raining i am wearing a chypre on most of the days, coincidence?
Twins with Empreinte, that was my scent of the morning, how funny we both reached for it today.
I’m wearing Slowdive today, it called to me from the cabinet, and then the atomizer nozzle was not aimed at my collar bones but got my shirt instead. I’ll probably be wearing Slowdive tomorrow, too. 🙂
LOL. At least you smell great!
2nding that you smell great!
3rding that!
The strange warm spell we had over Xmas New Year ended today with more seasonal temperatures.
Was in Empreinte today but this evening I sprayed some vintage Miss Dior edt.
Dinner will be soup and raspberry cake (homemade).
Mmm, your dinner sounds lovely.
The soup was from the supermarket but it’s rustic vegetables and really Good.
Vintage Miss Dior is amazing! Soup and raspberry cake sound pretty wonderful as well!
It’s wafting from my wrists, yes, vintage Miss Dior is amazing.
Thank you, dinner was really good.
Raspberry cake sounds like a summery delicious thing.
It is made with frozen raspberries, they’re great. We have very good red berries grown in the UK, from Scotland.
SOTD = Lazarus Douvos Rose 1845
Joining Isabella (and others) in her rose perfume! Rose 1845 is fantastic with roses, patchouli, tonka bean and benzoin!
https://www.instagram.com/hajusuuri/p/CYUWLWtOUmt/?utm_medium=copy_link
I have been slowly but surely cleaning up sections of the main level. I still have a ways, a long ways to go but I decided that not making slash and burn goals is the way for me.
We finally got winter today and my question to myself is do I take a break and get in a walk? I think I will!
Never heard of that brand, but that scent sounds great!
Go Team Rose! ???
Scurried back to work today, forgetting to put on perfume in my rush. Fortunately, the emergency backup decant of Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue saved me from a scent-free start to the year.
Hey, and that’s a darned good backup decant!
Prada saves the day!
Trying Montale Intense Cafe today…something in the opening reminded me of chemicals at the hairdresser somehow ehaeheh 😉 but now it is mostly roses and vanilla and smells quite a bit like another Montale/Mancera perfume I have sampled before.
Feeling a bit stressed w/ some post-holiday sadness mingled in for good measure today. Going to listen to the original How the Grinch Stole Stole Christmas cartoon soundtrack again today. 🙂 I listened to it twice yesterday…once during the afternoon and again as I cleaned up dinner. I think I love it even more as an adult than when I was a kid.?
Sending hugs to help with your post-holiday sadness! It’s kind of a weird time — I always feel like we load up December with all kinds of light and cheer and warmth and celebration, but then when January and February hit — the bleakest part of winter — we don’t have a lot to engage with, culturally speaking. Hope the Grinch brings you some joy. 😉
Agent Provocateur is another one that gives me a hairdresser-chemical vibe; sometimes it’s minor and easy to ignore, and sometimes it’s too obtrusive and kind of spoils the experience for me.
Thanks and sending hugs back, Isabella. ? Agree that Jan and Feb come up short on the light and cheer compared to December.
Sorry She-ra! I was just thinking I need a new project to get me through the January / February blahs.
Raiding the Yves Rocher sale section was my project for late last night but that doesn’t seem sustainable… eahehaeh?
LOL…yeah, not likely to carry me 2 months of winter!
Big hugs to you. I love the Grinch!
Big hugs right back, sistine!♥️
Another crazy day at work! I am also dealing with extreme anxiety for no reason at all.
Having my third cup of coffee and wearing Kenzo Jungle L’ Elephant to warm up on a sunny, freezing day.
Back to read comments later. Happy Tuesday, everyone!
So sorry for the anxiety, that is so hard, and so NOT conducive to sleep.
Thank you, Robin! I think the beginning of this new year with so much stress and confusion is taking a toll on me. Hope to feel better tomorrow.
We are anxiety twins!
I hope you are home and relaxing by now.
I am home already. Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day. This anxiety is really overwhelming!
I hope your anxiety decreases soon!
Thank you, Sistine!
Glad to hear that you are home now, and hopefully feeling a little better? Hugs.
Thank you, Jalapeno. It is better now.
So sorry you’re feeling anxious — hope it eases quickly and that the rest of your week can be more gentle!
Thank you, Isabella!
Was also anxious today for no particular reason. Big hugs to you!
Hugs back She-ra! Let’s hope we have a better day tomorrow.
Hey, NSTers, I made it to Ireland! Not without some drama, the resolution of which is above my pay grade.
We flew out just ahead of the big East Coast (US) storm. Had a gate agent for American go out of her way to rebook our transAtlantic flight when our connection got delayed twice — and that flight was never on AA. She saw that both my husband and I had been on hold, separately, with Aer Lingus for more than 15 minutes each, so she called them and changed our flight — and we were both still on hold by the time she finished that process. It remains to be seen why our travel agent — the one my employer uses — booked an international connection requiring a terminal change (and security re-screen) at Logan with only an hour between flights. We wouldn’t have made it even if our connecting flight had been on time.
Anyway, we are settling in to our new apartment and new city (Galway). My students arrive on Thursday!
SOTD: HdP 1804. It matched the sunny (!) weather. Very NOT Peri.
Oh yay! Drama notwithstanding, it’s amazing you’re there and settling in, what with so many cancelled flights out there over the last week.
What did you end up doing — schlepping all your stuff or shipping?
We ended up bringing a third checked bag (three checked bags total for two people). It was less expensive and we did not have to take the time to create an itemized list, with photos, of each item in the bag, which the shipping companies require. It wasn’t that bad in the end, especially because we were able to check them through from point of origin to destination. And so far I have been very glad to have several items that would not have come along if we had stuck with only two bags.
Good — the easy route!
Wow! Yay! I was worried it wouldn’t work out for you.
Thank you! I kept anticipating that the whole thing would be canceled at the last minute — and my students only received the final green light after I was already here, so the possibility of cancellation was real.
Thank goodness for gate agents that go above and beyond!
She was lovely. I am going to write a note to American about her.
Congratulations on your safe arrival, and I hope you enjoy Galway! I so want to visit Ireland; it’s currently top of my list for my first trans-Atlantic trip with my son.
Thank you! We are enjoying it immensely thus far. And I love living by the water.
It was sunny skies for me today, whoo hoo! So happy to see our Daystar! But the respite from the clouds will be short lived… there’s already another Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow: Freezing Drizzle and/or Rain. ??
SOTD = more Agent Provocateur EdP!
Hope you were able to spend some quality time outdoors! No sun here, but the NWS is saying that mid-January is looking “warmer and dry” for us, which sounds both appealing and ominous — really hoping the weather gods don’t shut off the tap on us.
I spent enough time outside to get a happy buzz from the sunlight. But it was chilly out!
Just got several packages today (some from yesterday because not only did the mail person arrive in our area at 10:05pm but also decided NOT to deliver my mail last night and instead slapped a “delivery exception animal interference”. Meaning could have been a swarm of bees, a pet, a stray dog… Maybe even an elephant with yellow pink ears and polka dots on its back. Why do I keep getting so frustrated? Simple. Why is our area supposed to even get served that late into the night? Also we were sitting on our lit up porch. I was specifically looking out to see the mail man/lady!! Did not spot any mail truck… Only got a text while sitting on the porch with the delivery being held up. A joke. I called the post office told them about this weird situation and… they apologized and said I was probably right and they may have just skip our side but anyways…
Got two mail deliveries today haha!! One at noon of the stuff from yesterday plus another after 4pm.
Wafting a miracle on my skin today… Wow. Jul et Mad Amour de Palazzo. I have no words to describe it yet… just that it smells so beautiful!!
My mailman sometimes marks my packages “held at post office by customer request” AS IF when he screws up and fails to deliver them. So then I have to go stand in line to get them, and it’s a 45 minute drive round-trip. Awesome service.
Villoresi Alamut today. A bottle I bought with a gift certificate and never really warmed up to it as expected. But, I’m determined to start over with this. There was something in the early dry down I didn’t like much…may have been some patchouli…but it’s creamier now. I will try it again a few times this week, although it’s not anywhere near CP-compliant.
Got my replacement down vest from the Christmas present I returned, so that’s fun. And I made an appointment to finally get a WI driver’s license. I’m someone who ignores that rule that says you MUST do within X number of days. I certainly wasn’t going to try the DMV during the busy summer here.
I took my car in to have it checked out today. I needed a new battery. I’m so glad I didn’t wait! My county is in a winter storm warning right now, and probably through Thurs. I’m very stressed about it.
I am wearing Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus dry oil.
We are expecting snow for tomorrow. Still not sure how bad it will be! Stay safe!
Glad to hear that your car issue was a simple one to fix!
I’m glad it was an easy fix. Stay warm!
Yay, so glad it was just the battery. Stay warm, lillyjo!
Woo hoo, thank goodness it’s only a battery! Sometimes weather changes can make them croak. Good luck this week!
I’m wearing Nick’s Sunflower again today. My travel spray is almost finished so I’m trying to thunk it by the end of next week.
Doing the 30 days of yoga challenge and feeling muscles I’d forgotten about. It’s nice to be active daily again – it’s been quite a while.
Chiming in late to say I’ve been wearing the very non-periwinkle Sticky Fingers. It’s keeping me warm today.
I can’t believe it’s only Tuesday. There’s been a lot going on with Covid scares from the weekend and a very busy return to work. It’s nice distracting myself for a bit, reading everyone’s confessions to Donatella!
Popping in very late to catch up on everyone’s news, and to report that I started the day in Cuir Pleine Fleur, then switched to Italian Leather after a shower.
