Saturday is Repeal Day (and happy 85th birthday to Calvin Trillin); Sunday is Saint Nicholas Day.
We're celebrating everything with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite cocktail and the perfume that matches it, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Greetings everyone, I survived Candle Day. I stuck to my guns and bought only 5 candles. I also found a $25 gift card for Sephora while cleaning a sock drawer. Since Sephora had that $15 off $75 and I had that gift card, I bought that Coco Mademoiselle Intense mini travel set. Ulta wouldn’t let me use that 20% coupon for the same thing but it only would have saved me $1 more. Currently in no 5 edp right now and about to take a shower to switch to Shalimar.
How do you like the Intense?
I felt like doing a blind buy for some reason. Chanel is usually a safe bet with flankers and I like the original CM. If I don’t much care for it, I can sell it or give it away. I am starting to prefer travel sprays. Better price point and if you have a large collection, travel sizes are awesome. If I don’t like it, I can return it too and it wasn’t a huge hit to the bank account. With Christmas shopping done, now I can just chill and watch everyone else panic.
I am curious to know how the intense compares
I like the Intense. On me, CM is a little screechy, but the Intense is warm from start to finish. Very bright bergamot in the opening, and I get a lot of tonka in the drydown. I’d happily wear it if I had some, but it never quite compelled me to buy it. Hope you love it!
Good work on finding that Sephora card!
Is that the twist and spray set for Coco Mademoiselle Intense? I love my No. 5 L’eau twist and spray. So elegant. Always fun to find a gift card you didn’t realize you had.
I found one for Apple – I haven’t yet checked the amount!
Yay!
It is the twist and spray in mini form.
Oh, cute!
I wish I would have known and waited – could have gotten the L’eau in a mini!
I have the L’eau in the mini twist and spray as well as the regular sized twist and spray.
I missed the online candle day yesterday. When I checked the site at 230pm all 3 wick candles where sold out already. I called the nearby store this morning and they were also sold out. Trip saved!
Do you know if there will be more sales this month, even though the price will be higher?
Yesterday, what was being sold online was sold out by noon. Tons of people complained about that. They are complaining now about even brick and mortar stores being sold out. There are tons of people criticizing the ones who are complaining. Saying that it’s a first world problem, you need to grow up, etc. Just like I got criticized by being cheap. This is a sale that some people look forward to all freaking year. I don’t know if Bath and Body Works will have anymore good or really good sales this month but I think Yankee Candle is running a sale.
Thanks for the info Dawn! It is really awful! I am trying to save every single penny now and I was waiting for the sale for months. I wonder what went wrong with BBW this year. I hate that I may have to spend more money now. I will check the Yankee Candle sales then, but I have always prefer the BBW candles.
I prefer BBW candles too and I am trying to save money too. It’s not always easy. I think it was some very poor planning on BBW’s part or they wanted to make this scarcity situation. Every year it’s like a shark feeding frenzy. Couple days before the sale it’s like buzzards circling around a dead animal.
This all sounds very stressful and I’m thankful that I’m not a candle person — although I do buy incense like crazy.
Yay for candles, reunited gift cards and the CM Intense travel spray…I was just eyeing that spray while shopping for others actually.? I maybe sniffed it at a store once but don’t remember it…I do know it has more vanilla than the original which is always a good thing.
And I can’t be the only one to get sidetracked trying to shop for others online but somehow always winding up looking at perfumes/candles/ and the like for numero uno.?I blame my powerful nose…one nose to rule them all.
hee hee, my inner Tolkien geek just smiled. 🙂
I don’t have this problem ?
me either! hehehe
It’s good to be back home (at least for the weekend) before returning to work on Monday. I enjoyed sleeping in my bed very much although I couldn’t sleep very long as I had a tires exchange scheduled for today’s morning. At least now my car is ready for winter, should it come or not.
I’m wearing Jul et Mad Amour de Palazzo on this surprisingly warm day before St. Nick’s Day.
Weather has been weird but we are getting the cold wet weather here, maybe even some snow or at least flurries tonight. You smell mighty fine!
Ugh for the flurries.
And thank you <3
You smell great! This is my favorite perfume from the line.
Winter here doesn’t start either. It gets colder at night (+6-8C), but during the day it goes up to +16, and the forecast for Monday promises +20.
+16-20 is a late spring temperature for Poland, lol!
Rainy and gloomy here today in NJ. Going to watch Mank this weekend but will re-watch Citizen Kane this morning. Had a good laugh thanks to NST. A bunch of years ago, I received Roberto Cavalli for Her (or maybe it’s Signature – it’s got the animal print band on the top) in a swag bag. Did not like it. Couldn’t figure out why. Well, a few months ago I revisited and very surprisingly, I like it and have been wearing it. Then I read NST review this morning and that’s where the laugh came in – Raid on a mohair sweater wrapped in Saran Wrap! Huge guffaw! I don’t get bug spray like OFF in there but hmmm Raid. Yeah! I think that’s some Raid in there! lol. Would love to hear about perfumes that get horrible reviews that people love.
Let me know how you like Mank
A classic Angie line, I had forgotten it!
Saw Many last night, beautifully photographed, well acted.
However, I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the exact competition for script credit on Citizen Kane (probably everyone’s contribution, even if small was critical to outstanding final product).
The more interesting part of the film was the discussion on the effort to counter the Socialist Candidate for California governor in the depths of the depression. I had known the studios forced employees to contribute to the Republican candidate (a practice now illegal), but I had not known that the studios actually made campaign commercials with falsified endorsements to try to swing the votes. Unfortunately, according to a “fact check” article I read, the Mank movie was probably less accurate on this subplot.
(The guy who made the false ads did not feel guilty and had a successful career as a director afterwards; Mank’s “betrayal” of Hearst and Davies by depicting fictional counterparts badly in Citizen Kane was probably not a response to the anti-Sinclair drive. etc.)
As for the samples, it seems it would be in Lucky Scent’s interest to supply customers with samples of fragrances, which might tempt the customer into full bottle purchases. If, because of shortages, or overwork, they could not do so at this time, a polite explanation, would have been welcome.
I may watch Mank mostly because I much like who does the musical score to the film:) lol. Always does a great job.
Wearing Aftelier Wild Roses at the moment. This is, IIRC, my third sample vial of it, as I can’t make up my mind whether to spring for a FB. Since it is my third sample vial, maybe that answers my question?
I also got the Perfume Pomander in Violet Ambrosia. I think I like this one quite well. At first, at least to my nose, it comes across as separate pieces that don’t quite fit together, but after a while the parts seem to merge together and the result is very nice. I really like violet scents, but most of them feel springlike and don’t quite seem to work in chilly weather. This one is warmer and seems as if it will work better as a “winter” violet.
A few days ago I mentioned receiving a Lucky Scent order in which none of the six free samples matched up with what I had requested. I contacted LS to inquire about it, as I thought perhaps there had been a mix-up and I had received someone else’s sample selections my mistake. Well, I got an email in return saying, in effect, “sorry about the mismatch but that’s just how it is.” I am a little disappointed. I know they are free samples, so I shouldn’t fret too much about it, but to get none of my selections is a bit odd. Has anyone else encountered this? Maybe they just have very few opened sample bottles to choose from right now? None of them were listed as unavailable. I am wondering what would happen if I tried to purchase the same samples.
I’ve never had that happen, but considering how much time I spend deciding which samples I want to request, I can see why it would be vexing.
I think you should go for the bottle of wild roses if you’ve gone back to a third sample. Something about it obviously is speaking to you.
Oh yes, I spend so much time researching my sample options, if they’re going to be kind enough to let me choose them! I don’t want to waste the opportunity to try things I think I might really enjoy.
Yes, it is saying “Buy me.” It’s funny, because it doesn’t clearly say “rose” to me, but I keep wanting to sniff it. I have held off because I keep telling myself I don’t need any more FBs. Maybe I should get the 8 mL perfume rather than the 30 mL EdP. The same price, but it won’t feel like I added another big bottle. I do wish she offered a ~10 mL option for the EdP. In fact, I wish everything came in a 10 mL size.
Second your wish for 10 ml bottles from Aftelier! But I am surprised you didn’t get the rose in the pomander and a sample of the violet. I think you need to do another order 😉
Well, even though I had ordered samples of Wild Roses twice before, and had drained them, I couldn’t actually remember what it smelled like. It had been quite a while and I wanted to make sure if I still liked it. I like rose fragrances, but I don’t like every rose fragrance. Violet is more of a sure thing with me. I don’t love every violet frag, but I seldom hate one.
That makes sense!
That’s odd about Luckyscent, was the response signed with a name? I’ve always had excellent service from Andrea, but failing that, I would write to one of the owners (I usually speak with Franco) to express not only the disappointment with the samples but also the unconcerned attitude in the response.
They got bigger and changed. The service and attention to detail are missing now.
As recently as last week, I had a very kind response from Andrea about a specific free sample request, but it’s possible other employees are less service-oriented. Or maybe I get nicer treatment as a customer of over 15 years. I am sorry to hear that service has declined overall, because that’s bad for business and I’m sure they’ve been hit like everyone else in this pandemic – good service is so important.
I don’t really want to make a big fuss about it. Had they been samples I had ordered and paid for, then certainly I would pursue the issue. I do expect to receive what I pay for, but I feel uncomfortable making a fuss over freebies.
Ditto what cazaubon says! I just got my order yesterday (for my husband to give to me ? for Xmas) of Angels’ Share, and not only did it come with the exact samples I asked for, it came with additional manufacturers’ samples of some of the same, plus about another five manufacture’ samples— biggest set of free samples from LS ever. So maybe they have gotten some pushback.
Like others have mentioned, I choose specific samples and request those. You got a response that should get that person reprimanded. If I were you, I would contact the owner.
On the pomanders, do you have any issues with the colors of the felt balls transferring to surfaces / clothing?
As to Wild Roses, yes, it’s time ?.
I haven’t tried the balls out yet. I just got my order yesterday, and so far I have only dabbed it on my skin.
I think I’ve only specified samples once with LS, and they sent two vials of one of my selections. Most of the time I let them surprise me, because of their disclaimer about not being able to promise they’ll send what I request. I have low expectations. ?
Wild roses is beautiful. I myself am on a fence about a full bottle, having gone through a decant.
What LS has responded about the samples is unacceptable, and as numerous people mentioned, it might be worthwhile to reach out to owners.
The same thing happened to me twice with Lucky Scent. I was very careful with my free sample requests as they were perfumes I couldn’t try here and ones I was thinking of purchasing ( things like Zoologist Moth, a couple of Tauers etc.) if I had liked the samples I woukd have bought full bottles . However, got none of my requests . Bit silly as they lost good orders as a result.
Agree w/ what others have said re: LS. To not have any of 6 match seems very odd…I typically get every single one I request. I also think the response is unacceptable. Sadly we all need to be the squeaky wheel at times.
I have never had that happen with Lucky Scent and I am wondering if it is related to staffing issues and number of people in the office restrictions around COVID. Is the place where they send out orders the place that has all the samples and open bottles, that kind of thing. There are slower on delivery now than they have been, and then are other smaller places like Indigo. But there livestreams and video reviews with Steve, Dana, and Kathryn have been so enjoyable to me that I am giving them a break. Not getting the samples you want is a bummer, though, as is the response.
*than
*their LOL
My exoerience was pre Covid. I wondered if it was because international sales are a hassle for them?
That’s a shame about Luckyscent, I’m another one who thinks very carefully about my free samples. I’ve ordered a lot from Luckyscent over the years, and I only once didn’t get the samples I requested, and even then it was fine, as I’d made alternative suggestion of anything from a particular brand and got some of those.
I have been a faithful purchaser since their very early scent bar days, so I do feel like they aren’t consistent anymore.
Wild Roses is on my wish list (which was requested by my mother—unusual, but I was delighted). I bought the extrait version (maybe 5 mls) a few years ago when Mandy had a sale in her home—absolutely loved it. I got patchouli in it, but was surprised to see no patchouli listed. It is a gorgeous perfume!
I’ve gotten different samples than I’d requested a couple of times. This was in 2019, and possibly late 2018, so no issues with a pandemic at the time. I think with at least one of my requests, I’d requested a sample of the same fragrance before, and had gotten it that first time. I remember really liking one or two of the substitute samples, and not being terribly interested in another one or two. I didn’t ask about the substitutions at those times, but I think there was a stipulation that I’d get particular free samples if they were available. My memory is kind of fuzzy on that last bit.
Went to bed in Jersey last night, woke up and spritz Gabrielle Essence, trying to finish this sample.
Cashmere sweater dress and leggings , Chanel makeup but minimal.
Reading a YA book, the red scrolls of magic. And I will also read the next book in this series. So far I like being immersed in a fantasy world. Also a girlfriend of mine, (we share books) and she passed me never let me go. She said that should also be good escapism.
The kids made waffles this morning and with blueberries ?.
Never Let Me Go is a great book, but it hit me hard emotionally. I wonder why she thinks of it as escapist?
I don’t know, I asked her for fantasy books to escape from reality and that was one of them. She also gave me two others, I will let you know what those are ..
My escapist genre is mystery. I just ordered the latest Tana French
I really enjoyed her most recent book, The Searcher. It was pretty different from her Dublin Murder Squad series, as the mystery isn’t the focus so much as the relationships the main character is forging as a transplant in a small town in the countryside of West Ireland. The descriptions of the small Irish town, the land, and its residents really did provide me some good escapism. I got quite immersed in it. I hope you like it!
Wow, can I rent your kids? ?- I have some here ?
We have a very nice waffle maker, does 4 at a time. You can rent them with the waffle maker
Every time I go to Target, I look at the waffle makers to see which one I should purchase!
Mmm, waffles! I want to try Jersey one of these days.
If you like caron homme you make like this one
Gabrielle essence is very different all together, it reminds me of chance a bit or a love child of the chance line. And one spray is enough, this sample will last forever …
I enjoy YA books. Will check this out.
Yum! Blueberries make waffles or pancakes even more delicious! When the kids were little we used to call Saturday pancake day. When I’d tuck them in Friday night I’d tell them “tomorrow’s pancake day!” I miss those days.☺️
yay for pancake day! 🙂 that’s a sweet memory.
Never Let Me Go would never strike me as the least bit escapist either. And so sad.
She has good taste! I’m a total Ishiguro fangirl, and I think Never Let Me Go is probably my favorite. What a gorgeous, emotional, slow burn of a novel.
Adding your book to my list! YA fantasy is one of my favorite easy genres.
No SOTM, yet, as I will head out for my run in a bit. But first, Mr. Spicebomb requested cinnamon rolls, so that must be taken care of. I’m making them into sticky pecan roll, since I don’t have any cream cheese, and I like cream cheese frosting best on cinnamon rolls, if I’m going that route. A pecan roll might make a lovely post-run snack.
I imagine I’m likely to reach for Tardes again today. I’m enjoying bathing it in right now.
Could you run by a store and get the cream cheese for yourself? Happy ?♀️
Ha! No, we’ve decided it is no longer a good idea for me to go indoors with strangers unless I absolutely have to. Mr. Spicebomb does all the shopping now. Not to mention, running pants have a real dearth of pockets!
LOL. I don’t run but when I walk, I wear hiking pants so I have more pockets than I need ?
I’m imagining a block of cream cheese bouncing along my backside as I trot along. . .
LOL – blocks of cream cheese can bounce along one’s backside in more than one way!!!!
Hey, I’m not sure I’m ok with you commenting on where I’m stowing my cream cheese! ?
In my case: #Isittoomuch/#Ieatcheesecake…. 😀
Actually, you can wear one of those cinch sac backpacks or a mini backpack – hands free and you jjst grew pockets!
It’s not an issue right now, as with cold weather I have a sweatshirt and often a jacket on as well, plenty of pockets to stow things, but in the summer months, I definitely need SOMEWHERE to put my keys and ID. I’ve given up on running with my phone. I hate having that clunky thing strapped to me somewhere.
Happy SaturYAY!
SOTD = April Aromatics Vanilicious EDP
Woodsy, resinous vanilla ?. Don’t get put off by the initial funky smell, this coming from someone who is anti-funk; it just needs a few minutes to settle. Also, I used 8 sprays ?. This is the newest formulation in a more concentrated formula than the original Eau Fraiche.

In other news, I need to organize more stuff to give away. I am not hearing of a restriction yet but if NJ goes the way it did at the start of the pandemic, charitable collections were prohibited from accepting donations.
Here in San Diego we are heading into full spring lockdown again. Husband rushed to the dump this morning as they are shutting down today at 1pm.
Oy! Talk about just in time!
That’s why I got my mani pedi last night along with everyone else in Los Angeles.
Waiting for full shutdown notice.
Gosh! The shutdowns have to be more selective. Glad you got your mani pedi yesterday.
Me too!
I can’t believe they even shut the dump, how is that not essential?
I was very happy a few days ago that 2 pieces of furniture that I ordered in JULY (!) were finally supposedly arrived at the port of Los Angeles, so thought just maybe I would get them by Xmas, but I bet if they are even closing the dump, my furniture will not be moving either.
And yes, it is just appalling that this is what I am worried about….I know there are more important things happening. It is easier and better for my mental health to worry about my sofa.
I hear you, last year I ordered a couch that took five months to arrive… and came with mismatched feet, which took another six months to resolve.
Mismatched feet? How on Earth …???
Wow, it took 5 months in 2019?? And then all that time to fix?
That’s even crazier.
Yes, this was in 2019. Then when it arrived with mismatched feet, the mfg in Italy didn’t believe me and demanded photos of all the feet to prove my claim. I had to remove the feet and send them back to get a replacement. You can’t make this stuff up.
Beyond crazy; but happy to hear you did prevail.
cazaubon, seriously, that is infuriating.
I hear ya! Can’t we just RECALL this year since it’s recall day?
Oops ?☺️that would be Repeal day, but just the same it fits.
Yes it does!
Foo. Much of the SF Bay Area is on lockdown again as of today. Technically my county isn’t, but I bet that comes soon. Ah well, doesn’t change much for us, we hardly go out except for grocery shopping anyway.
Same here. Spend 99% of my time at home already.
Thought of you last night. Some friends (one couple) came over for dinner. We did Commis take-out, outside on our deck, two tables (and two heat lamps) 8 feet apart. The meal was absolutely amazing. We do almost no take out because it never is very good, and we both love to cook. But this was definitely the most interesting and enjoyable meal I have had since COVID began. A treat before the onset of this next lockdown phase. If I had to identify a restaurant that was simpatico with perfume, it would be. Commis. The second “simple” course? Slow poached egg yolk with smoked dates & alliums with crisped wild rice shards.
WOW. Want to try!!!
Ok, that sounds seriously delicious.
I’m not sure about charitable donations here, but during the shutdown in March and April, we did not have curbside recycling or heavy trash pickup. I had to take our recyclables to the collection site in person, and the large trash just piled up as I don’t have a big enough vehicle in which to transport it.
I think our town dump was also shut down but I hear you on big and heavy stuff having nowhere to go without a big enough vehicle.
Shut down? Did you still have pickup for regular trash? I can’t imagine not being able to get rid of the garbage.
I’m sure regular garbage was being picked up. We have private pickup and I believe the dump was open for commercial concerns. Normally, residents can show up, present a driver’s license and dump stuff but that was not available for a few months.
I have not tried anything from that line yet…so many houses to sample…can’t keep up.
True on the many many houses! I got back my traveling sample set and have to think where I put them. I will send them to you for testing…the samples were generous atomizers!
Yes, the April Aromatics sample set is one of the nicest I have seen. There is plenty of each sample to wear it several times, and I prefer spray samples for fragrances that come in spray bottles. The ten sample together are almost as much perfume as a FB, and the price per mL is actually lower.
I wore Boyfriend to take my dog to the vet (annual checkup and vaccinations). It was a bit stressful because it’s a new vet and she loved her old vet so much, but I wasn’t going to drive her 4 hours each way for a rabies shot! Fortunately she and the clinic staff love each other so I don’t need to worry about shopping around.
After my shower I chose Scotch Porter’s Miami Duppy in honor of Repeal Day. It’s fantastic. I would love to walk into a bar and smell men smelling like this.
My latest favorite pandemic cocktail: https://www.chowhound.com/food-news/151977/vodka-gimlet-with-ginger-and-umeboshi/.
It’s salty/ tart/ sweet and just fabulous. I wouldn’t pair it with Miami Duppy, but I would pair it with You or Someone Like You.
That’s good news about the mutual dog / vet love!
Coincidentally, I don’t always pay attention to the DMs and today I did. There were 4 requests and one of them was Scotch Porter saying I’m one of the winners of a full bottle of my choice! And I chose Miami Duffy.
Wow, congrats!
Thank you.
Congratulations! What an awesome prize.
It is. I can’t wait to feel the bottle.
That looks delicious. I wonder where one would find a suitable replacement for the plums if they are unavailable?
Way@Go.
2!
Oh wow, that’s so fun! Congratulations!
Thanks!
Congrats on your win!
That drink looks wonderful, I love gimlets and never have them anymore because rose’s lime has gotten so yucky and I am too lazy to squeeze limes. (And Kevin and I were just having this same cocktail conversation this week. He squeezes all his cocktail juices.)
I got into squeezing my juices for cocktails when lockdown hit in March because there was plenty of free time, and it really makes a huge difference.
Somehow these comments made me think of the Mogen David with soda and lime cocktail with which Elaine May’s character horrified Walter Matthau’s character in the movie “A New Leaf.” I recommend this movie highly for the cocktail scene as well as the rest! You might have to be from the ’70’s to appreciate it, but I think it’s funny for anyone.
I am laughing at you Robin! Squeezing a lime has NEVER kept me from a gimlet!
Don’t worry, Kevin laughed at me too!
mmm I love gin.
Up at 5am for an east coast Zoom meeting, and felt the 3.5 earthquake we had. Barely noticeable, just some shifting and rattling. I’m wearing Annette Neuffer Chocolat Irisé.
Wow!
Reminds me of my years in San Francisco
In the northeast, 3.5 earthquake would be news for a few days, along with ominous background music!
There was a 2.1 earthquake in New Jersey on Thursday.
Ha! No news unless I’m watching the wrong channel ?
I only found out about it by surfing the Internet. ?♀️
Gosh, I just looked up Bay Area quakes (not sure where you cazaubon) and we’ve had 5 >3.0 in N CA in Dec.
A 3.7 happened early yesterday morning maybe 5-10 miles from my parents’ house (guessing, map I’m looking at doesn’t have a scale). Total news to me. They either didn’t notice or it didn’t warrant a comment.
Funny thing is, I don’t remember actually feeling a quake until I was 19 or 20, and that was in Seattle.
I’m in San Diego, not sure where the epicenter was.
According to my research it was you (ha!) ?no I mean San Diego as the epicenter.?
How do you like Chocolate Iris? Her website is so hard to order thru as half of the things are not translated!
I like it, it does what it says on the bottle. 🙂 I don’t remember having trouble ordering, but it was a while ago. I guess there was enough information for me to figure it out. I’m used to Aus Liebe zum Duft though, maybe I’ve absorbed some German.
huh, WHAT? =Are you in LA?
I’m in Lost Cherry, again. Just ordered a sample of Wicked Good with enabler pin going to She-ra (of course!) – shipping is free at the moment, even for just one sample which is quite nice.
I’m mostly a beer drinker (and sometimes wine) rather than cocktails – and as far as I’m concerned, all fragrances go with beer, whether in a football tailgating / down and dirty cowboy / or tongue in cheek dressed up way. I grew up near one of the largest hop ranches in the world – maybe my love for beer was preordained.
That said, I love the booziness of Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille and I’m looking forward to trying Angels’ Share. And actually, I get a subtle bit of booziness in Lost Cherry.
I’m a beer drinker too and agree all perfumes go with beer.?
It’s funny at restaurants (you know, back in the day, when we dressed up and went out…) – I would order beer and my husband would order wine, but they would almost always try to give him the beer and me the wine.
Now that’s funny! 😀
Beer is totally gendered in the America! From first glass (or first bottle!) to owning your own micro brewery—all male dominated. I wish I enjoyed beer more. There have been many times I wanted to say, ‘no, the beer is for me!’ ?
Yep! And I always think the label graphics on beer is *dude* all the way……
You are so right! I like REALLY dark beer like Guinness, and chocolate stout, and my husband prefers light ones. Whenever we used to go out, if we ordered beer, the server would always try to give the Guinness to my husband and the light one to me, lol!
A similar thing would happen on occasion with me and Mr. Jalapeno. I enjoy crazy amounts of hops in beer. Him, not so much. A few times our server would try giving my IPA to Mr. Jalapeno. Most of the time, though, folks got it right.
I’ve had things like that happen. I didn’t used to be a beer drinker, but I am now. Mostly, I like dark beers (stouts and porters). I do think the servers are a bit surprised when I order beer and my husband orders a diet soda. I don’t drink soda very much anymore, but when I used to, I would order a regular soda and my hubby would order a diet soda, and they would often switch them. Other times, I have ordered something like a steak while he orders a salad, and they will mix them up.
I’m curious why it’s a hop ranch and not a farm? Were they free range?
Ha – I don’t know. Maybe we were just incorrect (in my very small agricultural hometown in Washington state), but that’s what everyone called it.
I find LC boozy at times too.
Clinks frosty, hoppy mug with you.
Angel Muse to be cozy. Up early for two different Zoom calls. And a trip to Starbucks in between to pick up some ground coffee…we were down to dregs.
Stopped at our local French bakery in the way home from dinner last night and got my husband a half-price pistachio croissant for his breakfast today. As well as a couple of eclairs for dessert. This place is a treasure. We will probably buy a Bûche de Noël from them again this year also.
I had one of my favorite cocktails last night. A Manhattan. They’re so very pretty. And tasty

Pangs of nostalgia at seeing Joe Allen’s! I last ate there several years ago when I was in NYC and my sister drove in from CT to see me; we went to a show and then to Joe Allen’s for dinner. I want to go to the theater and out to dinner again. But of course, I’ll wait …
Love being able to support a local place like your bakery where you really enjoy the products. I’ve never had a Bûche de Noël, but I’ve thought about attempting to bake one.
The real thing is quite a challenge, but I have a Nordicware pan shaped like a Buche de Noel, and I make one using that.
OMG, I am missing the pistachio croissants in Montréal!
My lunch consisted of a Lindt Chocolate Pistachio and half a cup of seltzer water. No, I’m not on a diet but did. Ot want to be full before I headed out for my walk.
Wow Joe Allen’s…I dined there w/ my parents many years ago…happy memories. 🙂 My dad loved that place.
Oooh Angel Muse sounds so good right now as well as that pistachio croissant!! I want to go to this place here that does absinthe tastings but it’s been closed down since March! Ugh.
And forgot to ask – has anyone tried the Salt & Straw fragrance (Whiff of Waffle Cone)? Or the Powell’s bookstore fragrance?
Powell’s by Powell is nice and light spicy vanillic and so office safe that even with 24 sprays, no one can smell you but yourself. And the 24 sprays lasted about 2 hours, maybe 3 if I am sniffing really hard.
Lol – got it. Thanks.
I have the Waffle Cone one. Super sweet, unsurprisingly.
Hmmm. Thanks.
If you like salted caramel & waffle cones you’d enjoy it. 🙂
TOO super sweet, or enjoyable super sweet? I mean, I would have expected it to be sweet.
I really like sweet, so no, it’s not too much for me personally. It’s vanilla, cream, salted caramel, cinnamon, and maybe toasted waffle cone smell? It truly does smell like an ice cream shop that makes their own waffle cones.
Thanks!
Did you order from the website or from the store?
I went to the store and bought it.
Woo hoo!
Eleven hours of sleep without moving.
These early work days with calls to UK are tough on this old gal.
Snuggled on sofa with coffee and nst.
Post shower for one trip to post office a few sprays of JM orange bitters.
I am part of a core team where one of our meetings next week is at 8:30PM eastern. It’s an awkward time except for one person in the west coast and possibly for the one person in Hong Kong ??♀️
I have a 5am with Hong Kong this coming Monday
For this one I don’t turn my camera on.
11 hours is amazing!
I’m in 10 Corso Como. The sun is out and I have some errands to run. The new job has been busy but good. No time to comment during the week☹️ but hopefully that will change as I get into a routine.
We watched Stevie Nicks 24 carat gold tour on pbs this week. It was really good. It was long! She is chatty, lol, many of the stories of how songs came about was so interesting. Man I miss live music.
https://youtu.be/hSp4F7u7sjY
Happy Saturday.??
I think Stevie has had quite a life – I can imagine the stories. And you smell great, BTW. I need to get out my sample of 10 Corso Como – I especially like it in the winter.
Yes quite a life
There was a great interview with Candace Bergen in the NYT this morning. Another interesting life.
Cool, thanks.
Thanks! I love 10CC.
Yeah, Stevie has had quite an amazing life and career.
Are you still considering a different new job?
No, this is the new job.? I am loving it, but I had been with my previous employer for over 14 years, so making a switch was kind of nerve wracking.
Oh.. got it!, lol
I thought you were looking again. I’m glad you are loving it.
I’m glad you’re happy with the new job! That doesn’t mean a transition isn’t stressful after 14+ years, though. Enjoy!
I’m feeling pretty bummed out today, so I am turning to perfume to cheer myself up. Two weeks ago I had a “live” audition for Jeopardy! They are doing it via Zoom these day, rather than in person, due to the pandemic. It consisted of a 50 question test, similar to the initial online test I took a couple of months ago I thought it went well, but yesterday I got an email saying that I didn’t pass the test to go on the the next stage, which would have been a mock game and a short interview. This was the second time I made it to the live test, and I was so hoping to get onto the show. It has been a decades-long ambition of mine to be on Jeopardy!
Darn. Don’t give up! What are you wearing to cheer yourself up?
Aftelier Wild Roses. This will likely be a FB purchase soon, as this is at least the third sample I have bought. I’m also bummed that an item I ordered to be a Christmas gift for my husband is having to go back, as it is defective. Now I not only have to box it up and ship it back, but also I have to think of something else to give my hubby. I always give him perfume, so he expects that (this year it is AA Calling All Angels), but I like to come up with a second, “surprise” gift of something that he doesn’t expect.
Yes, I’ve got Christmas present issues, also. We’ll get there.
How about some shaving stuff from Scotch Porter. They did a great job with their Zoom Sniffa during which they launched a perfume line but their main
product line is shaving.
Wow! I’m so impressed that you have the gumption to try, and that you got as far as you did. No way we’l would I get past the first test.
Sorry for the disappointment, but keep on trying!
So sorry 50_Roses! I’m with springpansy and MissGoldsmith — keep at it!
I’m sorry to hear that – maybe a third try will be the lucky one?
So sorry and keep trying! A retired colleague made it on the show. I will try to remember to ask her for tips and pass them on
Big hugs but deep trying for Jeopardy as others have said!
I take the online test every few months or so (I think it’s open all year round now). I am impressed that you got to the ‘live’ part. One of the more well known contestants (Jeopardy James, maybe) has said that he took that test so many times before he finally got on, so, Don’t Give Up!
The email I got telling me that I did not pass said I need to wait one year from the date I had the live audition before I take the online test again. I am marking it down on my calendar so I don’t forget.
Yes, the online test is open year-round now. They are calling it the “any time” test because you can take it whenever you want rather than during specific test times (it used to be just once per year).
I just play jeopardy with Alexa instead.
Most people don’t even pass the first test. Keep going!
50_Roses, keep trying! It’s a shame you didn’t get picked this time, but I’ve heard so many Jeopardy contestant stories of how they persisted.
Sunny morning here – yay! We’ll do the bathroom cleaning first, then were going to the Thorndon Fair. I know I’ve mentioned this before and I can’t believe it’s a year since the last one. It started off as a small school fundraiser and now a couple of streets are closed for the day. There are lots of craft stalls, so it’s a good place to look for Christmas presents. I think I’ll wear Le Temps d’Une Fête – it seems very appropriate.
Our lives are very normal in New Zealand, other than the borders being closed, but we know our normality is very fragile. I am so sorry for everyone in the many places hit hard by the pandemic, the news from so many places is terrible.
Thanks for the kind thoughts! Yep, where I am we go back into lockdown on Tuesday.
All the more reason I enjoy hearing what others are up to. Do report on any great finds you make at the fair!
I bought lots of sweets! Home-made fudge, home-made baking and some boxes of turkish delight from a local business. No presents for anyone else 🙂
I inevitably buy more presents for myself than for other people when Cousins m Christmas shopping. You’re not alone!
Ack. Stupid keyboard. “Cousins m” not meant to be there. Gesture typing yields interesting results sometimes..
Actually it is really cheering, if slightly surreal, to know that life is normal somewhere.
My sentiments exactly. I’m happy to know that normality exists somewhere.
Yes it gives me hope
Sunny morning here as well. San Diego is slowly moving to the full shutdown of high is not surprising – mask wearing and social distancing is lax at best.
No fragrance yet as I am going for a bike ride. Post that will be trying new Dusita – Moonlight in Chiangmai.
Enjoy your bike ride clarissa!
I see masks being worn everywhere, 100% compliance indoors, so I guess we must be in different areas. I’m in Point Loma/Ocean Beach.
I am in Carlsbad. Last time we went to the beach it was crowded with no masks and no social distancing. I kept moving my kids around b/c others were too close. That was more than a week ago and we stopped going 🙁
You need 7 hula hoops!
?
Do report in on Chiangmai! I have gazed at the moon many times from Chiangmai and it’s on the shortlist for retirement with my sister.
That sounds like a fantastic retirement plan!
Wearing Serge Lutens Arabie.
Cold, cloudy and super windy day. Spending the day cleaning and later writing my Christmas cards and putting together little packages for some family members and friends. Everything will be mailed out next week. I am done with my holiday shopping and now I hope everything arrives safe and sound, despite a package already lost in transit, but fortunately the store issued a refund already.
Happy and healthy weekend, everyone! ?
Haven’t worn Arabie in quite a while. You smell lovely.
Thank you! I saw my small decant today and I was so surprised that it has not turned or evaporated after a couple of years of not reaching for it. It is so nice to wear it during the holiday season!
I wore it yesterday for the CP and it was so uplifting and pretty all day! Love it in cold weather, not so much in our hot summers.
It is a cheerful and colorful scent and perfect for cold weather.
You smell great!
Thank you!
Curious as to what you got for your nieces? My grand niece is about the same age, and I can’t think of what to get. I asked my sister but she wasn’t much help.
Just emailed you!
Grey and chilly here (feels like 28F) with rain/snow/rain. I should go out for a walk, anyway. Was awake from 4-6 a.m., then slept until 9, so the day has felt “off” from the start. Sigh. At least I managed to deal with some household financial issues this morning, and just finished warping my loom to make a Christmas gift, but I do feel a dreary cloud hovering over me. Time to get out the light box.
Wearing a light, leftover layer of yesterday’s 31RC. Post shower will probably go for Epic Woman, which may thunk my decant.
Waking up like that is the worst. It’s been happening to me alot lately
In Ashoka, from a sample. Nice, but there’s a hint of a wood note I dislike. I think it’s the same thing that puts me off Santal Kardamon, though it’s much fainter here.
I just remembered that I do have a sample of Bruno Fazzolari Corpse Reviver—which is indeed a cocktail I enjoy! I’ll switch over to this a little later.
I like herbaceous citrus cocktails served up. The Last Word is a favorite.
Oh, also I noticed Zoologist has reformatted both Dodo and Rhino. I know the story behind the reformation of Bat. That aside, this seems like a lot of formulations for a young brand.
I wonder what’s driving it. Supply chain issues? I can’t imagine IFRA regulations, as they can’t have been around that long… Ok, Dodo was released last year and Rhino 2014. Maybe Dodo was a sales dud?
Blasted auto correct. Reformulation!
I believe the reformulations are due to customer feedback (with the exception of Bat).
I’m interested to try the refo of Rhino. It always sounded like something I’d like, but the original version turned into damp cardboard on me. Bleah.
Makes me want to pull out my old Rhino sample. It was one of the ones I liked most, but something always held me back—which was true for me of most of the mine, excluding the original Bat. I haven’t tried Squid, Bee or Musk Deer yet. Would be interesting to sample the old and new side by side.
Mr. G loves Corpse Revivers too. What’s in The Last Word?
Shaken and served up, The Last Word is an old cocktail from the 20s or thereabouts:
3/4 ounce gin
3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
Maraschino, if you’re not familiar, is a clear Italian liquor. First time I heard of it, I thought cherries, which is dead wrong.
Highly recommended! And easy to make, once you invest in the Chartreuse and Maraschino.
Thank you – sounds refreshing and exotic at the same time. ?
I’ve had this – it’s super yummy!
I love Ashoka, but I know exactly about finding a hint of something you don’t like in an otherwise nice perfume.
In some ways it’s a relief—one less thing to go on the FB Want List, which I don’t need to get any longer.
Actually the list isn’t that long, just expensive, and adding a Neela Vermeire wouldn’t help.
I’m wearing TF Bitter Peach today and watching the kitten play with the cellophane from the box. It’s cold but sunny here with rain on the way, so I’m going to take a walk and rake some backyard leaves this afternoon.
I started watching Stranger Things last night and I think I am hooked. I still have not seen Breaking Bad.
Stranger Things is addictive and as an 80s kid very nostalgic for me
I really like Bitter Peach and am toying with the idea of a bottle, but not sure yet. Do you love it or really like it? Important distinctions. Lol.
I really like it. It lasts on me longer than Lost Cherry (longevity is important to me) but I probably would not have paid full price for it. I got it for $100 off through a combination of store sale and cashback site. I thought about waiting for the travel size but thought I’d wear it often enough to justify a full bottle. So far no regrets.
What are the names of this store sale and and cashback site? Lol. Got me curious.
I tried BP yesterday…liked it but didn’t last long on me at all:(. Smells yummy though and the bottle is classy and cute.
Agree with yasmina, also Winona Ryder is excellent.
What’s your favorite Winona Ryder movie?
I want to see if we’re movie twins?
https://youtu.be/BfNjoAHhzyU
?
Yes! High five!
I could do Heather’s quotes all day long. ?
Ha! Yes- I KNEW we would be movie twins!?
My college daughter and I frequently use that line on each other.?
I really enjoyed Stranger Things. I liked the first season the best, but that didn’t reduce my enjoyment of the others, and I’m looking forward to season 4. Scary, but not overly gruesome.
In Brooklyn Gallivant – one of the few bottles I brought with me to TX.
I went to the most amazing Indian store to stock up on cooking supplies and got some Nag Champa incense. Here is a NYT recs on incense that introduced me to some new (and expensive) ones:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/09/t-magazine/best-incense.html
0h I Adore that stuff. I only recently discovered it and it is fabulous.
It really works outdoors as well.
Looooove Nag Champa! I buy the Satya because I can find it everywhere from record stores to whole foods. I would love a perfume that smelled like it. Any good recs?
Have you tried DSH Ashram?
No! But thank you for that recommendation, off to the website now!??
I’m a fellow Brooklyn fan – you smell wonderful.
I put sticks of Nag Champa in my clothes drawers—I love the scent in my wool sweaters. I do burn the sticks occasionally well. Thanks for the link!
Ambre Loup by Rania J today. This weather is a kicker – lots of wind.
I need to feel warm by the fire.
YES to warming perfumes right now!
The only time of year where I contemplate wearing a tiny bit of oud lol
I have had two very different perfume moods today. Pre-shower respray of Gris Charnel, which I had on last night. Then an afternoon shower and Bukhara. Love them both. Other both deploying some iris, absolutely diametrically opposite scents.
Ooh. Gris Charnel was in my massive packet of LS samples. Looking forward to trying it!
Saturday! Re-testing a DSH scent (Taj Garden) that’s been on my wishlist for a long time, to see if I ‘need’ to take advantage of her holiday discount code. I’m thinking ‘yes’.
Got nearly all of my holiday gifts ordered. Including gifts for meeeeeee. My relatives all stink at gift-giving so I learned long ago to gift myself 🙂 One of my gifts-to-self is some cocktail mixers from Stirrings (I ordered some for my nephew, and they looked so tasty, I ordered some for myself!), which haven’t arrived yet, but they’ll force me to do some cocktail experimentings. My favorite cocktail is the Mauna Lani Mule, which is a Moscow Mule with a huge chunk of crystallized ginger in it. YUM.
Oh that sounds food!!
Oh that cocktail does sound good!
I’ve had something similar to a Mauna Lai Mule in Florida. It was delicious!
Ooops, should be Mauna Lani Mule.
I ate so much cryst. ginger this week soooo good and now you say you had it in a Moscow Mule? Yum. Sounds like the perfect winter warmer upper lol.
I’m wearing LL Mousse de Chene today. When it first went on I felt repelled by a turpentine-like note, but that has long receded, and it’s very warm and cuddly. I remember now why I bought it. Yesterday I bought my Christmas tree! I spent all afternoon (well, off and on) decorating it. Every year I also string lights out on both of my porches (upstairs/downstairs) and those are all colored lights. This year I decided to stick to the strands of green and red lights for my little tree, partly to symbolize that Christmas is going to be very different this year. I’ve been kind of sad about that, but doing something traditional like this is cheering. The candle I bought at a fancy plant store gift shop yesterday (yes that sound weird but it truly is) is Archipelago Stonehenge. I just adore that scent. I also have a diffuser of it, which is still wonderful even though it’s a few years old (It’s really lasted).
I hear you. It’s a challenge to balance the usual happy expectancy of the holiday season with the specter of 250,000+ COVID deaths in this country. No doubt it will be the stuff of great art and novels one day, but right now it is just heartbreaking.
Sampling Gallagher Rosé All Daé again…nice but kind of cloying to me as it wears. I won’t need more. Wicked Good and Behold, Patchouli are the best I have sampled so far from this house. Vanilla Silk is quite good too but he was a big heavy-handed w/ the iso E for my tastes on that one.
I have been really indecisive doing online shopping this year…can’t seem to focus and execute. 🙁 Feeling sad and a bit overwhelmed as others are too. I think I will complete 3 gifts today as my goal and live with it.
Hoping today is calmer. Sending strength hugs!
Hey all. SOTD: Poppy and Barley. Nice ‘classic’ scent, not at all what I am used to with JM’s stuff, but liked it all the same.
The only Jo Malone I’ve been able to try is Blue Agava and Cacao, due to a thrifting score. I live about two hours away from the bigger department stores, so not much sniffing possible locally. Does anyone know how typical BA&C is of the house? To me, it falls too far on the masculine side of unisex; but I’ve only worn it a few times.
I’ve never smelled the Blue Agava and Cacao, but it is my understanding that it was a weird one for Jo Malone.
Pomigranite Noir was too masculine for me, same with English Oak and Red Current.
I am OK with Pom Noir, but Blackberry and Bay is too masculine for me. I had the same experience with the English Oak as you did, though.
Lovely, sunny, not too cold day here; shopping early then last of leaf raking, including DH getting up on the roof so a little drama. My roof climbing days are over. I started with vintage Chamade – my bottle is a little off, but after a while the base notes shine then fade. Not sure what I will finish with. Main plan for the weekend is to get the living room rearranged so I can set up a real Christmas tree in my window for us and the neighbors to see. One neighbor did a display of amaryllis in his window; it is a little subtle, but if walkers-by look, they can enjoy it.
DH on the roof is plenty of drama for anyone!
Thanks to a couple of generous Nsters, I’ve smelled great all day. First in TF Metallique, and now in Natori.
I was able to work the day shift today, so I missed out on some of the craziness. Right now we are having a double employee discount going on. I bought a few Christmas presents and a cardigan sweater for myself.
Smelling great lillyjo! Thank you for your comments re: Le Lion yesterday, I really appreciate it. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet but it sounds very intriguing to me.
Glad you missed out on some craziness and that you got a few gifts at an extra good deal. That always feels good!
I really like Natori, because it manages to be office friendly and a *real perfume* at the same time 😉
Yay for working the day shift!
Wearing Comptoir Vanille Coco from a sample today; thunk!
Found out that my sister adopted a new puppy and my niece adopted a new kitty! The puppy is a mix of German Shepard/Border Collie and Great Pyrenees/Retriever. She is so cute and very mischievous! The kitty has a brown tabby face and legs with cream colored Siamese body; another cutie. Both will be busy households since they already have other dogs and cats respectively. It was so nice to get some fun, good news for a change.
Awwww… I’ve noticed a few new puppy neighbors out on my walks. I don’t know what is the COVID protocol with pets, so I stay a respectful distance while I admire them.
Hi, folks!
It was a quiet day with weird sleep patterns for me. I woke early, and went back to bed at 9-something in the morning or so. I woke again a couple of hours later, when there were maybe three or four hours of “daylight” left. Daylight is in quotes because of how dark it was all afternoon, though it stopped raining a couple of hours before sunset.
After it stopped raining, I walked around the yard to see if any of my flower bulbs had been dug up and to see how the hardy plants were doing. The areas where I’d planted the bulbs looked all right, considering the rain and wind, and the hardy plants are doing as expected.
It was quite cold and windy out, and I was happy I have a very warm new winter coat, my “belated birthday present” (?!?) from Mom. My birthday was in April, but I needed a new winter coat, and Mom likes to get me practical things. After all, I get myself books and flowering plants and assorted potted herbs and such. I guess those are presents to myself? lol
I didn’t stay outside long. I bird-watched from the windows of the house off and on until it got dark. I saw three bluebirds in a boxwood shrub near the front porch, and wondered if boxwood has berries of some sort. There were a number of visitors to the birdfeeders out back as twilight approached. I could recognize the chickadees, a nuthatch, and cardinals, but most of the rest I just identified as “little brown jobs.” 😉
Fragrance early this morning was more of the vanilla essential oil in jojoba oil that I’ve been using on my hands the last couple of days, with cocoa butter lotion on top. The bonus aside from smelling delicious is that my dry hands are very soft and moisturized by now. 🙂 I added a spritz of CSP Amour de Cacao, totally stealing someone’s idea from earlier in the week, on my wrists before I lay down for my late-morning nap. My plans are to do much the same with the vanilla oil and cocoa butter lotion at bedtime. Bedtime should be quite soon if I want to get back to something like a normal sleep schedule. We’ll see. 🙂
I wasn’t totally idle — I’ve been cooking meals a few days a week. I’m driving Mom crazy by starting to cook at random times of the day when I’m feeling hungry and/or ambitious, but Dad is usually happy to try my “experiments.” lol. Tonight was very simple: pancakes, with baked apples for dessert. Dad’s always up for pancakes. 😀
“Little brown jobs” made me smile. Indeed, we have those where I am, too, and they’re just about the only birds I can identify.
Lucky you, spotting bluebirds! I’ve only seen one since I moved to the East Coast, and it was in Maryland.
SOTM is Dryad, and yesterday’s scent was Cuir Ottoman. I’ve been in a bit of a rut with fragrances lately … but a nice-smelling rut at least!
maybe a good rut is a good habit in disguise? 🙂
you smell beautiful today.
I love the way you think, tiffanie. ?
Nothing wrong with a bit of serial perfume monogamy!
So true!
SOTD is Samsara Eau De Toilette, which I finally got around to buying. I don’t know why I put it off since it is a really beautiful sandlewood, which feels right now like a really beautiful black blazer, something one really needs but also feels like a real treat when worn.
.
Did you get the Bee Bottle or an earlier version? I’ve been very please with my Bee Bottle versions.
I got a Fb of bee earlier this year. I was unaware until your post of Bee reformulations, so I don’t know which version I have.
Well, I won’t claim to be sure of reformulations; I just always suspect that what’s in the new bottle *might* be different. I have an FB of Samsara edt in the red bottle, so I am well stocked and won’t need a new bottle. Your experience sounds like Samsara edt is still the wonderful fragrance it’s always been, so if I did need more…..
Enjoying my perfumes immensely these days. Maybe because it is getting cold and I’m keeping the windows and doors closed to the outdoors and outdoor scents?
No perfume yet— maybe Bois d’Ascese today, or Stephen Jones.
This afternoon I’m getting together with some girlfriends, outside and 6 feet apart, to exchange gifts and drink champagne. We had planned to do a 50 year birthday for one of us, at my place, next weekend. But with the new lockdown orders we scratched that plan. I’m trying to cancel the cake order, but honestly, I feel okay if the little local bakery keeps the funds.
Been coping with the holidays’ split personalities by spending lavishly on presents for family and friends. It’s been good therapy, if terrible financial judgment!
Most populous counties in CA are diving back into the tightest restrictions. My husband’s hospital has three times its “usual” number of COVID patients and health workers are feeling enormous pressure. Winter IS coming. But since time immemorial, winter has been followed by spring. I keep thinking of that tv news expression when they show a news clip—‘see you on the other side!’
same feeling here, just a swipe of perfume on my wrists yesterday, but felt like I was was wafting hard.
many thank you’s to your husband and to all those who are working under extra pressure these days.
Today I’m wearing L’Original by Andree Putman. I wanted something that would remind me of a spa, and this does – a spa in a fancy hotel.
However, it’s not exactly weather appropriate because it’s chilly outside and I think I should have chosen something a little less austere. Oh well, not a very big problem in the grand scheme of things!
That is an austere scent but I always liked it.
Wearing Tonka 25 which to me has no tonka lol. Woody musk mostly. But I like cedar so, I bought a sample. Should be called Cedar 25 lol. I was at Saks yesterday, my nose was off cause I had smelled several fumes. This lady at the Byredo counter shows me a scent, tells me some of the notes. I smell it, ask her if lotv was a note in it. Then she made a sassy remark, “I just told you what was in it!” I didn’t spend anymore time with her lol. Later sassy Saks lady lol. Neimans people are much more friendly and better selection anyway lol. I do notice at times a sales person can be sassy until you let them know that you know what you are talking about, then all of a sudden, respect. Lol, looking at you Le Labo and Saks lol.
I got a Fb of bee earlier this year. I was unaware until your post of Bee reformulations, so I don’t know which version I have.
Oops. The above is a mispost.
As for Department store SA’s, I think most only get the press releases for training.
Yeah for sure but I don’t like the initial stuck up attitude I find when going to some of these places. They act like, wtf are you doing here..? Oh wait, you know our brand or line better than we do? You know about q discontinued scent that we never heard of? Guess we can be nice now..lol. smh. Not very inviting usually. But in my experience Neimans is warm and friendly.
She would have gotten the Death Stare from me and if that doesn’t work, a finger (not the middle one, I am too polite) gesturing No!
SotD = CdG Avignon
I’m wishing so hard for a bottle of Avignon it’s making me nuts. 😉 Feels very silly though, there are so many pretty bottles staring at me every time I open the perfume cupboard.
PSA for fans of Target, or Tar-zhay is you’re feeling fancy like I am:
Today only they’re offering a 10% discount on up to $500 in Target giftcards. Add the special offer for the discount to your shopping cart before you buy.
I buy discounted Target gift cards every year then use them up for boring stuff like groceries and household supplies. I’m a big fan of online shopping at Target, have even used the drive up pick up option a few times lately.
And hey, I just saved $50! Maybe that bottle of Avignon is getting a leetle bit closer.
LOL! I call that store “Tar-zhay” all the time. For whatever reason they seem to stock certain items that I can’t find anywhere else.
Hoping that you get your bottle of Avignon soon!
It’s been a chilly weekend for me. At least the sun was shining today! Not a day to take recyclables out without a jacket, though. Brrrrrrrrrrr! ?
Scent of Saturday = the last of my Cristalle EdT sample. It seemed to disappear in the chilly weather. So for me, Cristalle is a warm weather scent.
SOTD = AdV Iris Nazarena, from the sample stash. Re-trying this one. Getting a lot of soap, according to my sniffer. Fancy soap, but soap nonetheless.
I never tried the edt. I think the edp is a year around scent for me.
Chilly here too, but I can’t complain… yet! Lol
And I’ve never tried the EdP. Kinda funny.
This morning I went to the big Sephora to use my coupon for Christmas presents. I spent more money than I wanted, so will probably return some things tomorrow. The SA put a sample of Valentino Born in Roma in my bag. It turned to straight up ambroxan before I even left the parking lot.
I’m at work tonight, wearing TM Aura. There’s some ambroxan in this too, but it can’t compete with the vanilla.
Lillyjo that’s so funny that you stated upthread that you didn’t care for Pom Noir because that’s what I wore today. I enjoyed the ‘berry-ish’ note that came with it; for me I think that’s what saves it from the masculine persuasion that you experienced.
Also, in the spirit of this thread and for everyone to enjoy, may I suggest the Mary Pickford cocktail? It is quite delightful, and there is a good recipe for it on thespruceeats.com.
Yeah, it’s funny because I love masculine leather and tobacco scents. The only JM I’ve really fallen for is the Velvet rose and oud, which is probably masculine to some.
We put up our Christmas tree yesterday, put lights on today. Half of the ground floor of my house is a demolition site after a plumbing mishap this fall, and cordoned off with plastic sheets, so the tree is not in its usual spot. Nor is it the usual Fraser fir; we buy a tree every year from our church, and their supplier sent cypress trees instead. Just another weird 2020 thing … Plumbing contractor arrives tomorrow to begin massive repairs, including removal of century-old cast iron drain pipes. I just want it done!
UGH, good luck with the plumbing contractor! Hopefully you have some noise cancelling headphones handy.
Thanks! That’s a good idea, I rarely use headphones so that hadn’t occurred to me, but ther are some in the house.
I have never had a cypress Xmas tree…does it smell nice?
And yes, VERY good luck to you with the plumbing.
It does smell nice! Not as good as balsam, but very evergreeny. Thanks for the good wishes re the plumbing!
Oh good…my frasier fir really only smelled good for a few days this year.
I would love a cypress tree I am guessing lol..they smell sooo good.
It does smell good! It’s branches are more flexible than a fir’s so we’ll decorate it with a light hand. But we’d probably do that anyway, given the ongoing house repairs.
