Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!
Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you're especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today...whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy.

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m wearing Teone Reinthal Embers, a lovely gourmand sandalwood scent.
Sounds lovely! Not familiar with this brand.
Happy Thanksgiving cazaubon!
Happy Thanksgiving!?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Enjoy Thanksgiving!
You smell great!! Embers is fantastic.
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂
Such a weird Thanksgiving, but still have so many things I can be grateful for. Not with family, friends.. just me and my husband eating a meal from a local restaurant, which is fine. We’ve got one single neighbor on our floor that is in her 80s so my sweet husband bought flowers for her and a meal to delivery later today. And I see the sun trying to poke out — yay!
SOTD: Coffee Break
Very happy thanksgving to my friends at NST!
Well, give your husband a kiss on the cheek from me – that’s so kind of him to arrange for a Thanksgiving meal for your neighbor.
Similar to our day, but we did not have any chances to share. I feel very grateful, too. We will eat our dinner tonight so I can lazily make the dishes all day.
Happy Thanksgiving!? and a sweet husband indeed.
Indeed.
Your husband is a gem..
Have a blessed and sweet day.
How kind, you are wonderful neighbours.
Happy Thanksgiving and well done of your husband!
Your husband did the perfect Thanksgiving deed today.
he’s a keeper❣️
Hi all, happy Thanksgiving! My SOTD is Fendi’s Theorema Esprit d’ Ete. I’m thankful for so many things, too many to count. 🙂 I love our little perfume community here on NST, and that’s definitely on the list of things to be thankful for.
We’re having a turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, sausage cornbread stuffing, butternut squash salad, and sweet potato pone (recipes below).
Everyone have a lovely day!
Butternut squash salad

Sweet Potato Pone

How do you find the Esprit d’Ete, in comparison to the original? I absolutely love Theorema, but haven’t tried this version.
I like the original Theorema but find the Esprit d’Ete more wearable. The Esprit d’ Ete has more citrus and musk, less spice and flowers.
I wouldn’t turn down a bottle of Theorema if I found it! 🙂
Yum! Have a lovely day!
Wow, you are making quite a meal! And we are cousins, I’m in Theorema (regular).
Happy Thanksgiving, SmokeyToes!?
Reading NSTperfume today makes me so hungry! ?
Enjoy the wonderful food and company.
The sweet potato pone looks really interesting, have a nice evening
Here’s the Instagram video. YUM.

What a feast!
My kitchen smells like cranberry cinnamon and cloves .. starting to make the relish for today.
Didn’t pick a SOTD but maybe someone can choose for me:
My list
parfum sacre
Twilly
Or Coco
Coco always gets my vote.
Coco sounds like a grand fragrance for today, I nearly chose it myself.
Another one for Coco!
Maybe not fair since of your three, I only know Coco, but it is always good to me.
I am jealous. I did not make cranberry this year because there is not enough of a crowd, and if I make even half a recipe I will eat it all myself over the next week…I really love cranberry sauce and will eat it with anything.
So anyway, please enjoy your relish!
I make mine with fresh orange juice and orange zest, and I almost always end up with a spoon and bowl finishing it off after everyone leaves.
I’m the only one who ever eats it but I eat it all anyways – I figure the vitamin C is very healthy!
I see no downside to eating all the cranberries. However, as I am the only one eating them this year, too, I will be freezing half of the cranberry sauce so I can enjoy it with leftovers later on. It freezes perfectly, like freezer jam.
I’m like Marjorie Rose, I freeze it in small containers. There are very few sandwiches it does not improve.
Happy Thanksgiving, Robin!
Ok, I have never frozen cranberry sauce, but you guys have convinced me. I will make some this week.
Coco!
Coco and happy Thanksgiving!?
I’m adding my vote to the Coco party!
I’m going to be contrary and say Parfum Sacre, because I can. 🙂
I dont know what parfum sacre smells like.
So #teamCoco ?
coco it is!
A friend wore parfum Sacré and she smelled wonderful
Go for the Coco….it’ll hold up to all the cooking aromas!
Turkey Service Announcement, in case anyone has a turkey that finds itself only partially thawed:
https://www.thekitchn.com/what-to-do-if-your-turkey-is-still-frozen-on-thanksgiving-morning-225746?utm_medium=k_daily&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_campaign=Thursday%20Send%202020-11-26&utm_term=K%20-%20Daily%2090%20days%20engaged
???
Thank you! 🙂
I’ve loved reading everyone’s recipes and service announcements (that’s funny, Nancyl.) are most welcome to. I made Ringthing’s pimento cheese recipe and it’s delicious.
Happy Thanksgiving! I have alot of turkey leftovers. If I want to freeze some, do I just put it in a freezer bag? Or do I have to do something else first?
I would just use the freezer ziploc bag.
Seconding what cazaubon said.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too, lillyjo! I third it, freezer bags work great for leftover turkey.
We Canadians have already dispensed with our version of the holiday for the year, but Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbours.
I’m wearing Parfumerie Generale Querelle, which is so strange — it smells like a bunch of scents spilled into the same bottle, the leathery fougere of Krizia Uomo and the aggressive spice of Opium Pour Homme and the ambery warmth of Stetson. It’s confusing, and sometimes it’s nice to be confused.
Querelle smells like incense and candlewax to me. I like it.
There’s a Russian Orthodox church on 25th Ave & Geary in SF that always smells like incense and candle wax – you can smell it from the street.
I wish our Thanksgiving was a little earlier…too much crush with Christmas. But Canada is too early. I would vote for early November.
I could get on this plan, but then maybe we need to make Halloween a bit earlier, too?
Halloween the 2nd Friday of October, then Thanksgiving the 2nd Thursday of November?
Then personally I think we need another holiday to be added to the middle of January.
2nd that!
We blink from Halloween and it is Christmas. Not a lot of time to savor in between.
But you also have Veteran’s Day (which we celebrate as Remembrance Day, and on the same day, November 11th) in between Hallowe’en and Thanksgiving, which is kind of lot, it seems to me, five big public holidays or celebrations (counting New Year’s Eve) mashed into just two months. Since we have our Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October, Remembrance Day fits neatly in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think it’s kind of perfect. But maybe that’s just because it’s what I’m used to.
Happy Thanksgiving to our southern neighbours! I like when we celebrate it in Canada – we’re further north so it coincides with our harvest time, it’s usually still warm and the fall colours can be at their best. And… it’s always on a Monday so a nice long weekend in October!
I reached into the back of my perfume cupboard for Nocturnes de Caron. I’ve got to wear this more often!
Pyramus this is true, but Veteran’s Day, while important, is not a festive holiday. I would like to see the festive things spread out a little more through the long cold season.
But it matters not in the least, because nobody is going to move Thanksgiving just because I say so.
Immediately post shower, and I haven’t decided yet on a fragrance. I might take this opportunity to do some cleaning, which has been at the very bottom of my to-do list for the past month. That reminds me; a potential CP: Perfumes to Wear When Doing Chores.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
Oh I like that CP!
Great idea
That means we do chores. Lol.
A special CP for you: Perfumes to Wear When Considering Doing Chores, But Not Actually Ever Getting To It.
Ha! Now that is more my speed.
Apparently mine as well, since absolutely nothing got cleaned yesterday.
SotD is Musc Ravageur and omg do I smell good! I always forget about my little decant.
My college daughter made it safely home yesterday afternoon and she and my teenager spent the afternoon and evening like two peas in a pod, giggling away. My teenager is a quiet bookworm by nature so when it’s just her here the house is pretty quiet. I love the sound of their laughter.?
I made my turkey, gravy and pumpkin pie yesterday so today it’s just everything else. Our plan is to watch the dog show and then feast.
I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving!
What a wonderful family day!
Thanks!
Lovely, enjoy the family time madtowngirl!
Thanks Robin, you too!
Happy Thanksgiving!? Laughing kids is one of the best sounds. We will watch the dog show too. My daughter desperately wants something w/ fur…dog, cat, chinchilla…anything. 😉
Thanks She-Ra, Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Your brother is visiting, right? Enjoy.
Yes, laughing kids is one of the best sounds ever.☺️
Does the something with fur need to move? If no, you can google custom fur-covered stuffed animal ? Vermont.
The dog show is a regular at our house too!
Have a fabulous day with your girls!
Thanks sistine!?
Have a great day…you have made a feast..
Thanks ltsg, you too!
What a sweet sound!
It all sounds like a wonderful celebration.
Giggling daughters and a Thanksgiving feast – sounds like a perfect day. Enjoy the time with your family!
Yay for Thursday, my holiday starts today! No work until 7/12, hurray!
I’m in Histoires de Parfums Rosam.
And Happy Thanksgiving to all US friends!
How wonderful – enjoy your time off! Any particular plans?
We’re going to my grandma help with some renovations.
Oh, a nice long break — have fun Lucasai!
Thank you
Hooray for holidays!
First, shout out to Ringthing for the pimento cheese recipe, which was just what I wanted. Scent choice for today is Atelier Silver Iris, for the festive feel and for the Community Project. It was probably my first niche, brand new, pricey purchase. I have the 100ml so definitely won’t buy again. I sure would have bought the smaller size if I knew then how many perfumes I’d eventually feel I “had” to have. But it is a big favorite because it has an assertive presence and I do get development from it. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you to everyone who is working today.
Mossyberry, I would have bought *everything* in 30 ml if I’d only known 🙂
The day I saw proper storage space had become a problem was a big surprise – and I did do a long and successful no-buy then. But I should get serious next swap and/or freebie meet!
Happy Thanksgiving!? You are right about large bottles and my brain agrees with you but my heart doesn’t always follow suit. I feel like there should be waiting periods for perfume purchases kind of…you have to burn through your 10 ml decant and let 90 days pass or something to get beyond the honeymoon phase before you are approved for a FB and then it’s only the 30 or 50 ml…not the 100 ml. 😉
exactly this! 🙂
I never actually manage to adhere to such strategies. But I’m sending a no buy coming up… my confessions to Donatella will be impressive this quarter.
Same here…..
Then there’s the other disappointment of sampling something, loving it, and then finding out that it is only available in a very expensive 100ml bottle!
Many know that pain! ?
I know!
I know!
I now have 3 new bottles in my cart that I am pretty sure I simply cannot live without, but can I use enough of them when I look over my shoulder at my army of decants? But one of these may make my heart skip a few beats and worth all the search….and the bottles are so lovely….and yet I know I am fickle in 3 more weeks I will have another infatuation…..
You smell great!
Happy Thanksgiving, to all who celebrate! Later on we’ll be attempting a zoom call with extended family… then firing up the turkey fryer and making the side dishes.
SOTD is Guerlain AA Granada Salvia, which is pomegranate and blackcurrant and fits the day just right.
Oh well done with thematic perfume!
I haven’t heard of your SOTD…
going to look it up
I am going to have to look for this if/when I ever get back to a store.
It doesn’t look like Sephora has it. Sigh.
I do love herbal fruities or fruity herbals.
Did you try Orange Soleia,too?
Oh, your SOTD smells marvelous!
Happy thanksgiving! I ate some ice cream and salami, doing a bunch of laundry and Am cat sitting with the house to myself this weekend. Wearing the Korres Iris Saffron again. Love this stuff.
I love your menu!
It’s pretty gross but I’m on the move. 3 loads of laundry done, dishes done, floors mopped and vacuumed. I’ll try to find some real food later, nothing open today so I’m using it as chore day. May hit the Everglades tomorrow.
Is that a strong saffron scent? My HG saffron perfume cannot be bought anymore for love or money. Yesterday I tested the Byredo–Black Saffron– a light, pretty, fleeting thing that did nothing for me.
Oh gosh it is. The saffron is realistic and long lasting. I’m not sure where you get it, since it’s a Greek brand. I found it for 9.99 at Ross dress for Less. I think it runs about 48 bucks us.
Just ordered a bottle from the Korres website–at 40% off for first purchase— my holiday treat.
And a lemming is born…
So, what’s your HG saffron??? You can’t leave us hanging like that 🙂
Scent on Canvas’ Rose Opéra . . . So mad I didn’t buy an FB when I could.
I love saffron and I think our drugstore has Korres. Will test this for sure.
Our day is little topsy turvy; we are coordinating with neighbors to take dinner to a friend who is on her own, which means that our “everything ready” time is several hours earlier than usual. I find myself with dessert (the NY Times recipe for pecan pie sandwich cookies) and cranberry sauce already finished, and my traditional side (corn pudding) already in the oven. Now am thinking about taking a nap — yesterday was my first day off since August and the relentless pace of the last few months is taking its toll. On top of all that, one of my husband’s closest friends died last night (not of COVID), and it seems impossible for him to travel to the funeral (on the other side of the country, in a COVID-19 hotspot in a state that doesn’t do restrictions — and the funeral gathering will not be small). He is understandably sad, so in a way it’s good that there’s no need to play at cheerfulness today for a houseful of company.
No scent here as yet, but I am thinking either Shalimar or Winter Palace.
And I, too, am thankful for NST and for everyone’s stories and comments. May everyone, whether celebrating a holiday or not, have a safe and lovely day.
So sorry for your loss. You deserve some well-earned rest. I will look up the pecan pie cookie recipe and I have to find my sample of Winter Palace and revisit it. Happy Thanksgiving.
I am so sorry to hear about your husband’s friend – losing someone right now is my biggest nightmare. I hope he can figure out a way to celebrate his friend’s life in his own manner.
Oh. I am so so sorry about your husband’s close friend. I am in touch with my “best friend” (distinct from my husband who is also my best friend but not my “best friend” from when I was a girl) less often than ever these days. I wake up in a panic some nights wondering what I would do if I were to lose her. She’s a doctor working at a clinic at a huge university–dxing COVID every day. What a Thanksgiving for you two. It is lovely that you can focus on bringing a meal to a neighbor. Sending hugs.
I am so sorry!
Hugs..
Oh dear. I’m so sorry. I think a long nap is definitely in order.
Enjoy your well deserved break. Hugs to you husband. That’s rough.
My condolences on you & your husband’s loss, hope you get a good rest and those yummy cookies are comforting.
Skalolazka, I am so sorry about your husband’s friend, and that’s a real blow to not be able to attend the funeral.
Robin, thanks to you and to everyone who has commented for the kind thoughts and words. We got through the day — our cat and watching the dog show and taking more time than usual for calls to family helped a lot. SOTD ended up as Winter Palace, because I love it and because it is one I discovered through an NST split (thank you, hajusuuri!).
My sympathies to your husband. I’m sorry.
Very very sorry Skalolazka, I know just how you all feel.
The is the year that just keeps on ‘giving’. Can we do a ‘NOTHANKS-giving’?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I am making my salads and baking an apple pie right now. We will have dinner at my youngest sister’s place with her husband and two babies. They are making a turkey breast, corn casserole and yams. My younger sister and her family will not join us this year to keep my mother safe, just in case.
I am wearing Guerlain AA Ginger Piccante now and I will wear L’Artisan Tea for Two or Chanel Coco tonight.
Have a safe and healthy day, everyone! ?
Mmm apple pie
Enjoy the festivities. ?
Thank you, Jiji! ?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Yei!
Thank you, Annie! The same to you and Gracie!
Oh I want some apple pie. With a super crisp butter crust with sugar sprinkled on it. NO raisins, lots of cinnamon, and a side of white cheddar.
Passing you some! ???
The only way I really like apple pie is with cheddar. And then, I like it very much, indeed. I wonder if it is a regional thing or a generational thing? I learned to eat apple pie that way from my father (b. 1923).
I like Ginger Piccante a lot
It is a great scent and full bottle worthy, for sure!
mmmmm, apple pie! that’s one of my favorite baking smells. enjoy! and i hope you get to cuddle those babies. 🙂
Thank you, Tiffany! Apple pie is my favorite baking smell also, along with peach pie. Looking forward to enjoy the babies later ?♂️. Have a great time! ?
You and your pie make a perfect team!
I am staying at my parents house right now, dog sitting.
They have a wire haired dachshund that needs excercise and lots of petting ?
I browsed through the perfumes on my mothers dressing table for my sotd/something new to try ?
I picked Aire by Loewe. I think its an old bottle
I though i did not know this scent but I immediately recognize it. Its a smell from decades ago, when i still had to do homework haha ?
Its really lovely though a bit too soapy for my taste.
But it smells like my mom (and i dont think i ever smelt in on someone else), so its all good! ?
Oh how fun to wear a bit of your mother’s perfume! My late stepmother had only a couple scents she wore, but whenever I smell them somewhere, I’m immediately transported to a “special night out” with her!
Scent triggers memory in such a powerful way.
I am so jealous of your dog sit. How old is the teckel? And is it male or female?
Male. His name is Guus and i think he is 6 years old.
He is quite big, he loves to haul gigantic tree branches and tug of war is his favourite game ?
He sounds delightful and a real teckel! They are such feisty dogs.
I have a perfume that was only introduced a year ago, but always reminds me of my Mom. It probably doesn’t smell anything like her perfume, side by side, but still evokes her in my mind. I woke up in the wee hours this morning and happened to reach for it.
Enjoy the dog sitting! We have a dachshund mix who has some anxiety issues from being a rescue, but otherwise sounds very similar to your parent’s dog. Very sweet and affectionate and loves tug of war!
Getting a rescue is best option imo. ?
My parents chose otherwise, but if I ever want cats Ill make sure to go to a shelter and adopt.
Years ago we adopted two senior cats (brother and sister) and they were the best!!!
Good for you! My cat is also a rescue from the street and I adore her.
My mum also wore Aire Loewe… it was a very popular perfume in Spain, where I am from.
What a nice afternoon, at your parent’s smelling old classics and playing with the dog. 🙂
I have a Papillon who also loves tug of war and requires lots of petting. 🙂 If you stop before she’s had enough she slaps your hand with her paw.
I’m wearing Santal Massoia because Barqs wore it yesterday. It’s just beautiful.
I’m anxious and cranky for so many reasons, but thankful for even more, so I’ll consider that a win. I hope everyone has something in their day today that brings them a moment of joy and another thing to bring them a moment of peace.
Santal Massoia is so comforting 🙂
peace and joy to you, sistine,
you smell delicious!
and please remember,
no matter what,
there’s always hiris. 😉
Happy Thanksgiving, Sistine! I am anxious, cranky and grateful too today…and letting those around me know it.?
Joining you in the cranky, anxious and thankful crowd.
I’m in Bois Sacre Sandalo today for holiday prep. Damn am I pleased I bought this one. I absolutely love it.
We are only the three of us (husband and my younger son) and my mother and stepfather this holiday—and we are going to be outside for everything, sitting at two tables about 8 ft apart (I bought another outdoor heater for the second table). Odd, but okay. Even though it is cold, the sun is out.
I made chocolate truffles yesterday, and I am on duty today for cranberry torte and cranberry sauce–and setting things up outside to look festive. My husband is doing the turkey, stuffing, Brussel sprouts, and soup.
One of our happiest Thanksgivings was before we were married. It was just the two of us in our fifth floor walk-up on the upper west side of NY (signature scent then? And I had one–it was Margaretha Ley by Escada.) We did a five course holiday meal just for ourselves. We were so full from picking and testing as we were cooking all day, we could barely face the food when it was ready. Lots of laughs and leftovers.
chocolate truffles..be right over!
Seconded!
The torte is actually cranberry, white chocolate and Grand Marnier–so that might work for you as well?
thank you for that wonderful NYC memory, Oakland Fresca! 🙂
That memory makes me happy and you smelled fabulous. I have several mini parfums of Margaretha Ley and it is very nearly my desert island perfume! It was a chance find for me in a resale shop when I first fell down the rabbit hole.
I have a bottle I found on eBay and I use it sparingly. Brings me back to the 90s in a flash. Happy days!
That torte sounds fabulous! 🙂 We had a similar patio meal today with SIL & BIL.
Happy Thanksgiving ! I am wearing Caron Parfum Sacre today and drinking my second cup of Nilgir Winter Frost Black tea.
Your SOTD was on my list for today but I am going with coco
I’m Bois d’Encens today. A very meditative serene scent on a busy day.
You smell great!
?♀️
No SOTD, yet, but I imagine whenever I get to it, it will be something spicy. I’ve reached for Tea for Two several times this week, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot each time! And it sticks around for hours, which is always a plus in my book.
Thanksgiving will be just Mr. Spicebomb and myself. My parents are elderly, and none of us have been in each other’s bubbles all that much since the start of COVID. Maybe Dad could come up, but I hate to ask him to drive on the freeway anymore. I think the thought of it scares both of us!
So, I am roasting a turkey, making stuffing, Brussels sprouts, potatoes and yams, and some cranberry sauce. There will be leftovers, which has always been my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. I will freeze half of the turkey, make some stock and enjoy turkey soup this month. I’ve decided against baking a pie, as there’s still most of two birthday cakes in the freezer from last weekend. I turned 43 on Monday. Honestly, there’s probably some pie in the freezer, too. I should dig around and see what I can find. . . I love my chest freezer!
Have a delicious day!
Thanks, LizzieB. You too!
Happy belated birthday!
Thanks! I had to work all day (12 hours, truly all day), but I got to power the long day with plenty of birthday cake. 🙂
I got my first chest freezer in my late 50’s, and I don’t know how I got along without it. I have the very smallest size and it’s perfect.
I find it deeply reassuring to have a chest freezer. I’m so glad you are also enjoying yours!
Happy belated birthday! You inspired me to spray Tea for Two this morning.
Mmm. We smell delicious!
Happy belated birthday!?
Thank you, She-ra!
Happy belated birthday! I keep pie in the freezer too. 🙂
Thanks, cazaubon!
I think it’s important to always be prepared. You never know when there might be a dire pie shortage and you can come to the rescue!
Yeah, like when you’re too tired to cook. 😉
Happy birthday Marjorie Rose!
Belated Birthday Wishes Marjorie Rose!
And another happy birthday – May you have a fantastic year ahead!
I’m in Aesop Marrakech Extreme, many sprays. I think this will power through the ambient fragrances of the house today.
The pasta bake is in the fridge ready to go and the mayo chocolate cake is made (thank you, Wednesday self), so all that is left is garlic bread and a green salad.
It’s just the hubster and me today, but we’ll be FaceTiming the fam later this evening. I hope everyone has a lovely day, whether and howeve you are celebrating! ?
When I lived in the northeast US I learned the wisdom of pasta at the holiday table along with the turkey or ham. It was usually baked ziti, sometimes lasagne. I miss that tradition. Thank you for reminding me.
My extended famiy is doing a zoom dinner date at 5 pm tonight. My parents, especially my mother, are not fond of video calls, but she orchestrated the meeting, so that’s something to be thankful for! 🙂
Yes, an East coast and perhaps Italian-American? thing which I didn’t realize until later. My mom (not Italian-American but CT has many Italian-Americans and wonderful food/pizza and she loved Italian) used to make turkey, ham and baked ziti on Thanksgiving.?
How awesome that your mom initiated the zoom call! High tech saves the day.
I’ve not heard of pasta on the holiday table, but then I’ve spent most of my life in Texas. Does the pasta take the place of a potato dish? I can see it being great for those who don’t eat meat.
I’ve seen people here do a lasagna for thanksgiving.
That’s what I had. 🙂 Tex-Mex veggie lasagna.
Calling all gourmand lovers! Can you share your favorite strong smelling vanilla lotions? And gingerbread, possibly?
I’ve got a luxurious gingerbread smelling body butter, but I love to layer with a lotion on top.
Thinking of Miami Duppy or Angel today.
Happy Thanksgiving All!
Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille souffle body creme is quite long lasting and rich. It is sweet, though.
It ended up being too sweet for me. It’s very rich.
It is; I have to dilute it with unscented lotion or else it overpowers my perfume!
Bath & Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel and they also have a nice gingerbread spice one too.
Pacifica used to have a vanilla body butter that was rather potent. Too much for me, TBH.
No Thanksgiving here, but we took a walk and tested a newly opened pizzeria and ordered some take away for dinner.
SOTD is one of my new scents plus a cheapie, so I fit the CP with Perles de Lalique.
How do you like that one? It looks promising.
I find these cheapies challenging: they’re such a good value, it’s tempting to blind buy (and seems pointless to pay for a sample, if you can find one), but then if you don’t like it, that cheap bottle ended up being an expensive sample. On the other hand, I do enjoy the excitement of things coming in the mail and the, “Will it be great?” suspense.
You have to like ISO E super, otherwise it’s a nice Rosé and Patch scent, very puristic and with a ice queen vibe. Would be a good work scent
Serge Lutens Sample Week continues with Chene, a nice, woodsy scent. NST is probably the only place I can say, “I wish I could smell this on a man” without sounding like a complete weirdo.
yep! this is the right place, and nope! you’re not a weirdo. 🙂
Yesterday I wished I could smell laddm and au coeur du desert on a man.
Mmm, Chêne is lovely. I need to find my bottle.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! About to get in the shower and switch from Beloved to probably Epic. Not doing much of anything today.
Happy Thanksgiving to you Dawn and you smell great, as always!
Happy thanksgiving to you Dawn — enjoy your lazy day!
Love Epic. Great choice!
Shalimar Eau de Cologne, with a bit of body lotion. Made stuffing this morning, as well as some candied yams. Bringing over to friends’ place. Small gathering of careful people, including their cousin who just got her negative results so can join us. My yams cooked down to a smaller portion than I expected, which is unfortunate. Husband will make the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts when we get there.
The downside is they don’t have cable, so no football on in the background.
You smell beautiful. 🙂 Shalimar is getting lots of love this holiday!
Twins in Shalimar.
I found some ground meat in the freezer, so it’s a Cuban thanksgiving. Picadillo, black beans and rice, and I found a sweet plantain for maduros. Never as good as a Cuban friend cooking, but it will do.
Yay for found-freezer-meat! Cuban Thanksgiving sounds delish!
Yum!
Picadillo is so good. Enjoy your feast!
Happy Thanksgiving American friends, it such a wonderful holiday.
Here, it’s an ordinary sort of day and I was lacking inspiration, so reached for Shalimar parfum de toilette, still going strong 6h later.
You smell fabulous! 🙂
I have a precious decant of vintage Shalimar EdC on my desk,
waiting to be worn this weekend.
Thank you! It seems Shalimar is the perfect holiday choice.
I lacked inspiration today too. It’s funny with all the perfume we have, it can still seem like we have nothing to wear.
Oh dear typing on my phone and must have hit post twice, sorry Robin.
Never any need to apologize 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating it, I have really enjoyed reading about all the fabulous food people have been making.
Friday here after a frantic week – I’m very glad to be here! I’m celebrating this with a spring favourite, Le Temps d’Une Fête.
I would trade my Thanksgiving for a nice spring day in a hot second 😉
Happy Thanksgiving! SOTD is MM Replica By The Fireplace.
Family will be on Zoom or Facetime today so it will be a very quiet day for me.
We did lots of zoom and facetime visiting today too andshewaz…hope you enjoyed your quiet day!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!
I’m so very grateful for this community.
In Le Lion today, puttering around, cooking some sides (roast Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, wild rice with mushrooms). Will have a low key dinner once my husband gets home from work.
I hope everyone enjoys their day and their company.
Le Lion sounds so good, a pity that it is next to impossible to sniff things these days.
It really is nice, but then again, Chanel is almost always up my alley. When I started to read reviews before smelling it I saw that most people were comparing it to Shalimar and by extension I guess, they were calling it the most Guerlain like of all Chanels. I can’t say that I agree with that.
Anyway, it should be available soon in Europe and the US. I’m curious to see what you think of it once you smell it.
Have a nice weekend Austenfan!
You smell wonderful! I have a decant of Le Lion on my desk for wearing later today. It will go well with today’s indulgences. 🙂
Thank you Tiffanie! Im happy to be twins with you today ?
Happy Thanksgiving to my fragrant USA friends, and simply a happy day to all the rest of you!! Zooming with family in a few minutes, then on to prep my solo meal–going with some faves, mac and cheese, and roasted vegies!! and, wine…..lots of wine.
Clinks glass; roasted veggie twin (brussel sprouts here)!
You’ve just reminded me of a solo Thanksgiving of mine many years ago – I ran a very decadent bubble bath and took a glass of Wild Turkey in with me. My dad called later in the day and asked what I did to celebrate, and when I told him I’m pretty sure people the next county over could hear him roaring with laughter. Have a wonderful day, jepster – I will raise a glass of? to you!
Happy Thanksgiving, to all who celebrate!
Still trying to make up my mind about the perfume purchase, so in order to make the issue slightly easier to resolve I thought I might wear Ambre Russe today. It’s a great scent but is not very helpful otherwise. 🙂
You smell great! Love Ambre Russe.
SotD = Vanille Galante because it smells like happiness to me
Good morning, fragrant friends, and happy Thanksgiving to all NSTers. I am thankful for you and for this happy place.
Let the feasting begin. This year it’s just green beans, acorn squash, and rice pilaf with the turkey – no stuffing, potatoes, rolls, or cornbread. Not because I don’t want them, but simply because it would be too much food for our small family. There will be pie – two kinds – because I baked an apple pie . . .
. . . and last evening my new-ish nextdoor neighbor, a young gentleman who lives alone, knocked on my front door. He had a melktert from our neighborhood brasserie in one hand and a bottle of Lagavulin 16 in the other. So thoughtful and over the top! He wanted to say thanks for our help as he has settled in to the neighborhood.
I adore melktert, it’s a South African custard pie, topped with cinnamon, and baked in a shortbread cookie crust. But the Lagavulin? Gosh, I don’t have an understanding of fine spirits (I grew up in a teetotaling home), and no one in my family likes whisky. Or is it whiskey? See? I know nothing. 😀
I’ll head out for a bike ride soon. My sister and her family are away, not too far away and safely quarantined, so I will pedal over and stop in at her house to check on things, then give their kitty some belly rubs.
I was laughing with delight and crying with heartbreak this morning as I read the six word memoirs of gratitude in today’s New York Times. I have to share. Here are a few:
I am thankful to be thankful.
The crinkling eye above the mask.
A furtive hug with a friend.
The backyard haircuts are getting better.
My choir still meets on Zoom.
Friends who give me streaming passwords.
Family reunion in January, before Covid.
Miss family, but safer for them.
Saved a lot of lipstick money.
More homemade pasta, no more jeans.
No shame in elastic-waist pants.
Braless at home? No one cares.
Mom, 87, rocking pretty, pandemic ponytail.
Teenage son still likes to snuggle.
My parents live two blocks away.
No better excuse to avoid in-laws.
This stinking year is nearly over.
Love the six word memoirs of gratitude and so nice to have thoughtful neighbors!
yes and yes! 😀
I must research melktert. Sounds delicious.
it IS delicous! 🙂 I looked up a recipe, must bake it myself one day soon.
The Lagavulin is a single-malt Scotch – reportedly one of the very peaty ones so I have no personal experience (peat being a flavor that I avoid after trying Laphroig), but I recommend trying a very small dose, neat, and seeing how you react. You might love it.
a wee dram, then is it? 🙂 that seems to be the recommendation for those new to the ways of single-malts.
but were I to do it I’d need to have a good chase on hand, just in case.
I love the word melktert. It would be melktaart in Dutch and Afrikaans leans heavily on my language. Plus it sounds delicious!
It’s the South African version of Pumpkin Pie in terms of popularity!
We’ve even gone as far as naming a shooter “melktertjies”(little milk tarts)…vodka+condensed milk topped with cinnamon.YUMMMMM.
oooooh, yum yum YUM! I had no idea melktart is a big favorite, thank you for cluing me in 🙂
I love the word too.:) Melktert sounds happy.
Lagavulin 16!
That is not a cheap bottle.
Its a single malt whisky, from Islay.
Its been a while since I tasted it but i remember it being peaty and spicy and I liked it a lot!
thank you for that, Jiji, I know nothing about Lagavulin, but I”m learning. 🙂
I absolutely love the gratitude memoirs, and really need them today! Thanks for passing them on.
I’ve never had a peaty whisky, but brown liquors can be used in baking. You could possibly add a tablespoon or two of it to banana bread. That is, if banana bread does not make you run screaming down the street at this point in the pandemic. ?
so glad, Nancyleandros! those thoughts of gratitude really made my day better.
heh heh, I’ve not baked banana bread for a long time, so your advice may get used soon. 🙂
Mmm, melkturt! Love the short thanksgiving bits. 🙂
yay! very happy you enjoyed them. it’s amazing what six words can do. 🙂
Wow, 16-year-old Lagavulin! I love the stuff, but it is very smoky and peaty. I find it can be used in small doses in savory dishes, such as a creamy chowder. I would not recommend using it in desserts, unless you were making something like a burnt caramel sauce.
The smoky flavor seems to be a big plus for fans of Lagavulin. I’m not sure what to think. 😉 Thank you for the advice, Jalapeno!
So glad you love Melktert! It sure is a south african staple, but one of those recipes that has evolved to every household having their “the best melktert ever” recipe!
My favorite will obviously always be my Grandmothers’ recipe. She always made two versions also, one with cinnamon and one with toasted coconut(I prefer the coconut one!)
Happy Thanksgiving!
It all sounds “lekker”…xo
Melktert is fantastic, and one made with coconut sounds delicious! Grandma always knows best. 🙂 Someday I will learn to make one that way.
Happy Thanksgiving! My family celebrates on Friday. We are not eating together, but everyone lives close enough to drop off dishes to share. We bought a ton of 6 inch pie dishes so that each house can get all pie flavors. I’m baking apple and pecan.
My SOTD is Sous le Manteau Cuir d’Orient, a soft suede-y vanilla. It is one of my favorites from my sampling spree in search of The Perfect Vanilla. As it turns out, I am not as vanilla averse as I thought and found a couple other favorites- Anima Dulcis and Long Courrier.
What a good idea about the family pie dishes! Pecan pie twins – I do the brown sugar instead of dark corn syrup one; but otherwise I keep it basic.
Thank goodness my local grocery store had a buy two, get one free deal on the pie dishes! I got some funny looks carrying 15 of them to the checkout stand. I love pecan pie and will have to try brown sugar sometime. I bet the flavor is better than corn syrup.
6 inch pies are just perfect, great for sharing. Need to try that Sous le Manteau, I love Anima Dulcis.
SOTD is Nanadebary Bronze because its dark woody cinnamon note will go nicely with the Thanksgiving Day feast Mr. G is about to construct. My company always gives us T-Day plus the Friday after off, and these two extra days of rest came just in the nick of time. Happy ? Day to all who are celebrating today!
Hope Mr G’s meal was perfect SheriG! Enjoy the day of rest tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving, y’all! ??♥️
Wearing Solstice Scents Estate Vanilla today and burning a B&BW Sugared Pecan Pie candle.
Floragal shared yesterday she was burning the Catskills candle below and now I am debating this one and others on their website. No affiliation and haven’t heard of Brooklyn Candle before actually but their candles look wonderful. They have sales going too of course. 🙂 I ordered a few candles from B&BW a month or two ago after not having burned anything in a while and feel like they are my gateway to other drugs/candles. Burning them has been very comforting. I also bought a wick trimmer from Amazon which has been a source of delight. 😉
https://brooklyncandlestudio.com/collections/single-candles/products/catskills-escapist-candle
Candle reminder! I have a sandalwood one – I never think of candles – Happy Thanksgiving, and I hope candles don’t become the new lemming. Current new lemming is vintage jigsaw puzzles!
I really need a wick trimmer too. It’s finally getting cool enough to enjoy my candles.
SOTD Teone R Shakti. Reading her notes, is it a homage to Coromandel. I am not able to do a side to side comparison but I quite like it. There is some unexpected greenery in the dry down, and usually it would annoy me, but this one is quite nice.
We usually have a small thanksgiving, so nothing new here. I will make duck breast and rewarm duck confit (we usually get a smoked turkey but were not able to get it because of COVID), and one time I cooked turkey was a disaster that scarred me for the rest of my life. Will make potatoes: https://damndelicious.net/2014/02/14/garlic-smashed-potatoes/, asparagus and Brussels sprouts. And chocolate lava cakelettes for desert.
I just tried Shakti as well recently and to me it smelled nothing like Coromandel. There was a sour green note that really put me off too, kind of like Amouage Bracken. I much prefer her Tantra scent.
Garlic smashed or mashed are one of my thanksgiving FAVORiTES!!
I also do a leek cream chunky mashed potato that folks seem to enjoy.
I am off to check your recipe. THANKU!!
Happy Holidays!
Woke without an alarm at 5:20, a little after my usual time, sprayed a new perfume, got back in bed and was out for another 4 hours. Divine.
Enjoying my coffee and some morning reading. In a minute I’ll head up to start cooking:
– Stout-braised short ribs
– Balsamic-braised red cabbage
– Possibly pearl onions or shallots, if grandma remembered to buy them
– Horseradish mashed potatoes
No dessert. It’s just the two of us, and we mutually decided we didn’t need any.
We’ll do a Zoom call with some family later.
Grandma turned on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for a few minutes, then quickly turned it off. It’s never been my thing, but did seem a bit sad without crowds of onlookers.
Your morning was the one I have planned for tomorrow 🙂 !
Mmm, horseradish mashed potatoes. 🙂
Your meal sounds fantastic! I love short ribs, and with braised cabbage and horseradish mashed potato, that is heaven.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I have never really cared for Thanksgiving dinner and since it is just me, can have whatever I like. I made some Cowboy Cookies a while ago and froze the dough, so I sliced and baked some today. For dinner I will either have pho or leftover scampi, I haven’t decided.
On Tuesday I got a new kitten, his name is Dapper. He has the loudest purr ever and of course is a ball of energy. The dog and Bertie Wooster like him and Scout, the other cat, is hissing and growling at everyone, including me.
I have taken advantage of some of the sales, Saks had TF Bitter Peach on sale and a cashback place gave me an additional 16%, and Bloomie’s had Pivoine Suzhou for $106 plus 10% cashback. These are my Christmas presents to me, nobody ever gives me perfume.
Going out for a walk and then watching the dog show and putting up the outdoor Christmas decorations. Have a wonderful day, everyone!
Aww… yay for the new kitten and the perfume!
Happy Thanksgiving and congratulations on your new perfume acquisitions!
ConCATulations on the kitten! Your perfume choices sound lovely. I’ve only smelled Bitter Peach on a blotter, looking forward to a skin test.
Ah, new kitten!
Congrats on the new scents AND especially the kitty!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends!Enjoy your lovely meals, even if alone this year!
Of course there is a buzz in the air over here…tomorrow is Black Friday. Not buying anything though!
We have a small year-end function tomorrow at noon,so looking forward to that.
Thankful:2020 is almost over. And way too many choices for a SOTD(Kingdom by Alexander Maqueen,by the way!)
XO
Maqueen/Mcqueen…??Lol.It’s late over here!??♂️??♂️?
Lol, it just means you have a real exclusive ?
Haha!?✌??
McQueen :-). I’ll be up at midnight shopping!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Sotd – A (sacrilegious?) layering of Profumum Roma Patchouly with Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue. I wish I liked the Patchouly more on its own (an expensive impulse purchase) but I am trying to find a way to work with it. Any other layering suggestions would be much appreciated.
Mr. allo is making leg of lamb with what seems to me a dangerous amount of garlic. Even if the garlic does me in, it’s a risk I’m willing to take. And I’m very grateful he is doing the majority of the cooking today (and most days!). I’ll contribute roasted Brussels sprouts later.
And speaking of recent newsworthy owl sitings, we’re going to check out a Snowy Owl who has taken up residence on a house nearby. It’s such a treat to see one up close.
A snowy owl, what an amazing sighting!! Here in Europe they are pretty much impossible to see unless you live in the Russian tundra or Scandinavia.. get really excited if I hear a tawny owl calling.
Wow, snowy owls are gorgeous! We have them in Québec.
As for patchouli, I layer it with either lots of vanilla, chocolate or incense.
Great layering ideas. Thank you!
Have you tried layering your patchouli perfume with a dark rose scent?
I did try it once with Une Rose and liked the combo but thank you for the reminder to try it again and with other dark roses.
Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! I hope everyone here has as good a day as you can. I’m not even sure how to carefully phrase well wishes when so many folks are having a difficult time. But virtual *hugs* to those who want or need them. I appreciate the people of this community. 🙂
I’ve been bird-watching, but haven’t seen any owls like allo has. I think I mentioned here that I’d ordered a guide to the birds of Pennsylvania. That came Tuesday, and Dad and I are taking turns looking at it. I said it was a Christmas present for both of us, and a birthday present for him. 🙂 Dad’s birthday is a week from Christmas, so it gets overshadowed.
We recognize the familiar birds with more distinctive markings at the feeders. The “little brown jobs” are tougher, but I think the one with the black and white stripes on its head is a white-crowned sparrow. We had seven mourning doves on the ground below the feeder, checking for birdseed that had fallen. And a red-bellied woodpecker stops by at the feeder pretty regularly.
That sounds like so much fun neyronrose! We have a very active bird feeder but it is just a little too far from the window to make out darker birds unless I use the binoculars. My husband is very good at identifying birds but I am pretty hopeless.
Happy Tday nst..hope you are all stuffing yourselves of goodness. I am wondering what Black Fri deals will be out there for perfume…….maybe I should not browse haha. Hugs guys.
A little browsing couldn’t hurt…
Happy Thanksgiving Omega!
?Happy Thanksgiving to all NST’ers who celebrate and a special? to Robin for providing this lovely place!
SOTD is vintage Lagerfeld KL, my traditional Thanksgiving Day fragrance. Its cloves and cinnamon notes complement the foods of the day, and it’s so potent only the tiniest spritz is needed.
Due to the uncertainty of today’s pandemic, I decided to skip my usual Thanksgiving Day celebration this year, and instead, ordered turkey and all the fixings from a nearby restaurant. Dropped off half at my son’s house and enjoyed a brief visit. We will Zoom later over ?. Came home and enjoyed our meal – it was fantastic, better than I anticipated. I may never go back to the way it was before, not to mention all the time I saved putting it all together! Instead I relaxed and watched Macy’s parade and the dog show, never had time for that before. I did make and share my usual Harvest Squash and Mushroom soup, but that was all.
Sharing my joy with you in announcing the arrival of 2 grand kittens ??who joined my son’s household yesterday. A brother and sister, just 4 months old, I was lucky to catch a peek at them today when we dropped off the food and it made my day! One kitten for each grandchild, definitely a wonderful happening to brighten this dismal year and an additional reason to Give Thanks.?
ConCATulations on your grandkittens! Little balls of fluffy joy are perfect for this dismal year.
Last year we made our own turkey, dessert and cranberry, and had everything else brought in from a restaurant — it was fantastic. I will do it again next time we have a crowd.
My husband was just watching the dog show, he must have tivo-ed it.
Congrats on the arrival of your new Grand-kitties!
Little siblings! That’s the best. They’ll play together keep each other company.
SOTD = L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant
Just the right amount of spice and coziness!

In Thanksgiving news, who ever thought that bubbles is the word of the year with a brand new meaning? Okay, I just made that up but I don’t think I would be that far off. We made a family bubble of the sisters, brothers in law and nephew, literally everyone (6) in the immediate family who live within 10 miles of each other. We had takeout Seasons 52 thanksgiving dinner and desserts from my sister (she made chocolate chip cookies) and I brought a variety of sweets I ordered online. We were socially-distant inside with all sorts of precautions other than wearing a mask when not eating (not.doing.this).
We made alternate plans for Christmas – we’re meeting Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Day since one of my niece’s workplace is stringent about traveling out of state – they don’t care where but you will be required to quarantine 14 days, no pay since she is an hourly-paid physical therapist.
Oh my gosh, I didn’t expect the cute picture!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you. Hope yours was great as well!
Love the photo! My SIL had an outdoor distanced meal with just us and her husband. Had to use hand sanitizer and wear a mask to enter the house. I will be so glad when this thing is over. We are staying home alone for the rest of the year, except for a short trip to San Francisco.
Thank you. I wore a mask to enter the house although I did not need to. I know we all need to be careful but sometimes, too much is just that. I hope you had a pleasant time!
I hope that you had some tasty leftovers to take home after that feast!
I did – had it for dinner plus 2 segments of a 6 segment individual bread pan with pumpkin butter !
Happy Thanksgiving!
My turkey was thawed in time this year! It turned out ok, but dry because I overcooked it. I made an emergency turkey phone call to my chef cousin, because I felt the little pop up thing was defective and I don’t have a meat thermometer.
My first time ever making sweet potato casserole came out pretty good. My daughter was very excited to see brown sugar in the house and promptly made homemade lip scrub!
Hope everyone is well! ?
Duh… sotd TF Black Orchid edp.
Glad your turkey thawed! Maybe next year try one of those bags you cook the turkey in to keep the moisture? Wish someone besides me liked sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie.
I do! I do! I love sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie is my favorite food from November 1 to December 31 every year. 🙂
Here’s my favorite way to bake sweet potatoes, Annie Wade’s Sweet Potato Souffle:
https://moosewoodcooks.com/2011/11/annie-wades-sweet-potato-souffle%EF%BB%BF/
So glad you got the turkey done! I’m sure it was delicious.
You’re getting better at this turkey thing!
Sounds like a success to me! Gravy fixes everything.
congrats on your turkey! a few weeks ago I baked a turkey breast and even with a meat thermometer it came out undercooked, ha ha! The meat under the breastbone must have been still frozen when I put it in the oven. Oops! Half was well done, half was a bit too rare. It went back in the oven until it was well well well done.
I love sweet potato casserole. 🙂 So yummy.
sotd of the day was Red Door- an old bottle- chosen since it seemed a good match for holiday cooking.
As usual we had a Thanksgiving lunch and now Scent of the Evening -Black Cherry. The Tom Ford site had travel sizes.
Somehow the family’s decision to have a reduced Thanksgiving still ended up with two days cooking and cleaning.
Dilana, isn’t it funny how that turns out? We had just as many dishes as ever, and it was just 3 people and we only made 3 things.
I was amazed and dismayed at how many dirty dishes I had! I ran the dishwasher 3 times today.
Happy Thanksgiving/Indigenous People’s Day from Michigan. I couldn’t resist the 88 cents/lb turkeys at the grocery store last weekend, so I roasted a 12 pounder with apples and onions in the cavity, and made mashed potatoes, creamed corn casserole, fresh cranberry sauce and a small casserole of turkey sausage and rice dressing. Enough Turkey left overs for a month of Turkey sandwiches, curried turkey, etc. Adorable hubby and I ate while zooming with MIL and her new Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua cross puppy. Cute as a hyperactive bug- that woman is a glutton for punishment. And also oldest sister and her partner, who is camera shy but kept up a running commentary about everything in the background. I love them all, but not the most relaxing Turkey dinner! SOTD = DSH lovely Chypre, Vers la Voute Etoilee, still present after all that cooking. Now watching a bit of The Crown and winding down for bed.
Aww, new puppy! We ate outside so I could bring my dog for the first time to SIL’s house, it was fun. 🙂
my family did a zoom Thanksgiving dinner, too. There were 10 people in three different locations, with lots of talking and background noise, and some people didn’t want to eat on camera! It was a fun adventure, but I have to agree – not the most relaxing way to share a meal. 😉
Happy Thanksgiving/Indigenous Peoples Day NST. I am thankful for all of you. Be safe and be well.
SOTD = Adam Levine, from the sample stash.
Same back to you! I need to give my new bottle of Adam Levine a whirl, just sniffed on a wrist but it smells promising. I have a few jasmine lotions I’m going to experiment with it.
I got mostly a gourmand scent when I sprayed my little decant this morning. There was something floral, but it didn’t read as jasmine to me.
There’s Adam Levine for shim and Adam Levine for Her. I prefer the for Him. Which one did you wear?
Eh, I meant “for HIM” ?
It was Adam Levine for Her. It was a good perfume to wear while cooking Thanksgiving goodies yesterday.
I’m a big fan of Adam Levine for Her! It has been one of my go-to scents this fall. And truly, it’s so affordable that one doesn’t mind wearing it while cooking and re-spraying as needed.
I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving if you celebrated it! Our whole kitchen smelled of homemade cranberry chutney, which is divine. Leftovers for dinner last night (Friday). I’ll probably make wild mushroom and truffle risotto for dinner tonight, as it’s a favorite of one of my daughters. And if anyone insists on leftover turkey to go with it, that works!
