Our same old open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you're thinking you'll wear on Thanksgiving, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I would like to take this opportunity to say how friendly I think you all are. Love reading your comments and getting inspired by your favourite perfumes!
Best wishes for you all!
SOTD is Dsquared Want. Lovely cheapie for fall.
Agreed! A special and especially kind place to check in. Thanks Robin for this gift.
It’s lovely to check in here.Sometimes NST is the only corner of calm and a shared sense of pleasure in our perfume wardrobes, and I need that escape from “the real world”!
Same here – this is one of my favorite places to log in, read comments, and discuss every sort of perfume-related topic. I’m especially appreciative of it these days, amidst all of the online rancor we’ve been battered with over the course of the year.
Ditto.
I know it has been really hard — and I know some people felt it was of questionable morality — to stay quiet about current events, but I am really glad because I need this calm place too 🙂
Robin I had to log off at one point for my own sense of perspective, but I myself have never thought it was questionable for others to have and enjoy this calm nonpartisan-except-for-Dylan place! Thank you for making it happen. And right now it is a haven for me too, even though I don’t often have time to comment.
go Team Bob Dylan! 🙂
?️ ??️
Yes, Amy!! I don’t comment everyday, but I do try to check for inspiration, not just on perfume, but books, movies, and food. Lot’s of calm, support, and inspiration here….very grateful. Thank you Robin for making it happen.
same! I’m so glad this is a happy place to share my excitement and ramblings about perfume. NST is a wonderful tribe. 🙂
Nobody in my immediate circle (which is smaller these days) understands my fascination with scent in all it’s forms. I was one of those kids who sniffed the pencil shavings, paste, and crayons at school, rolled in the grass at the park for the happy green smell, and buried my face in my pets’ sweet musky fur.
Without you fabulous perfume people I might fall for the idea that I’ve got a problem. We all know it’s the rest of the world that’s got it wrong, amirite? 🙂
You are! ?
I totally appreciate the policy.
Same! NST is always the perfect place to visit!
I agree that NST is a delight. It’s a haven where people can focus on pleasant things in an increasingly crazy world. I never miss reading it, even if I’m often a few days behind.
Yes, I have been so happy to find NST! It has to be the nicest, most welcoming place on the internet.
I lurked here for awhile, wanting to join, but was so afraid I would get picked on for all my designer perfume loves. It’s never happened. The first time someone said I smelled great, I was over the moon! I’ve learned so much from all of you, and have definitely expanded my perfume knowledge and my geographic knowledge. My kids get impressed when I say I have a friend in … just name a state or country, lol ?
You definitely have a friend in Centurion,South Africa!

OMG I LIVED for The Golden Girls as a kid!!Haha!
XO
NST is a wonderful place, one of the very few in which I participate these days. I enjoy reading about what scents everyone is wearing and the community projects are fun, even though I often forget about them. I’ll join my thanks with everyone’s on keeping this bright, awesome smelling corner of the internet going, Robin.
Even if I don’t comment every day, reading the daily threads is very calming and relaxing antidote to the stresses of the day. This is the only blog/community I regularly engage in!
Some days all I want is evidence if people being kind, funny and respectful. I can always come here and see exactly that.
This x 100! And smart and helpful, too — I have learned so much from all of you.
This 100%!
My thanks to Robin as well! In the environment where people’s interests and believes split close to 50/50 with emotions running high, friendly exchange of opinions is impossible. So, the only way to keep any place as a sanctuary of calm and sanity is to stay away from hot topics.
Another one here who is so grateful for this wonderful community. I appreciate the comment policy greatly. In my particular case with all the tension in the world and my own personal stress, the least that I want is to come here and experience more conflicts or harsh disagreements. It is so comforting to read everybody’s comments, no matter if they are happy or sad. I love the respect, easy going, and peaceful feeling of this community. Thanks Robin for keeping it that way and thanks everyone for making this place so warm and welcoming!
Hilde, what a lovely thing to say. I agree with you, Robin keeps creating a safe and wonderful space for us to come. ?
Thank you Hilde, for starting this thread.
I agree that NST is a wonderful refuge from the crazy world. Everyone needs a safe space. If that means certain things are left at the door, so be it. I appreciate this community so much.
Agree completely with all that has been said, NST is an oasis during these strange times.
I started posting here about the time I gave up on sports sites where every discussion was trolled into vicious invective. At first the notion of a scent centered internet community seemed odd- after all, smell cannot be cyber transmitted. However I soon noticed that this, and other fragrance blogs truly are a community of friends.
Yet another voice in favour of the policy! It’s a relief to find someplace where people are polite and supportive. Thank you, Robin!
Ahhhh, ten hours sleep, coffee and fragrant friends.
My bathrobe smells of Tiger by her side mixed in with Ambre Kadjar.
Thanksgiving will be solo this year, along with some zoom calls.
I will bring a special dessert over to my newly widowed neighbor but am trying really hard to stay away from everything and everyone with the hopes my sister can visit me In December.
Los Angeles on verge of shutdown have a mani pedi today.
Ten hours of sleep. Bliss!
I would kill for 10 hours of sleep. Hasn’t happened in 20 years.
I wake up at 6am without an alarm for several weeks now.So odd, because I am not a morning person at all!
This happens even on weekends!
2020.Stranger things.?
Getting ten hours of sleep, or so, is one of my Thanksgiving Holiday goals – at least I can be thankful for a chance of having that kind of rest.
I got nine hours and it felt so good! Enjoy your mani pedi.
10 hours, lucky you! I am on 6 because had to get up early for food delivery. Planning to sleep in tomorrow.
We will have our first Thanksgiving alone with no visitors this year. It will be weird.
I voted for steak and guacamole, my favorite meal, but my husband must have a turkey so we are doing a turkey.
Same here. Mr. G is chief cook in our household so he mostly gets to dictate what we eat. He knows I’m not a big fan of turkey and usually is very considerate of my preferences, but to him Thanksgiving is meant for turkey and fixins. I’ll eat a turkey leg now and then, but stuffing can go stuff itself – blecchh. ?
Plus, such a production to make any piece of meat that large. Although I ordered a 12-14 pound turkey which is also the smallest we’ve ever done.
I do like dark meat turkey, but I like a good t-bone so much better.
I’m with you on this one, sister. I haven’t cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving in years.
There will be just two of us eating turkey at my house this year, and we eat it from time to time throughout the year, so I’m being seriously lazy.
We’re going to have the Costco oven-baked turkey that is already sliced turkey. It’s really good for what it is, just glorified deli turkey, but it will do with cranberries and green beans and some kind of carbs. 🙂
tiffanie that is so smart.
We are doing the spatchcocked version from Serious Eats that we did last year. It was seriously the best we ever made, but it means that the whole fol-de-rol starts on Tuesday night, and at the end on Thursday evening we will set off the fire alarm and have to open all the windows.
I don’t mind the fuss (especially since my husband does most of it) when I’ve got a bunch of people but just for us, seems like much ado over nothing.
In a former life and career, I worked in the catering business. Each holiday, we would make hundreds of party platters, carve and platter turkeys, glaze hams, and poach salmon. It was hard work and a very long day.
Fast forward 30 years later, with Mr. SmokeyToes’ family gatherings, I was automatically nominated to host and do the cooking for 30; although it was a piece of cake to throw together, believe me when I say, the last thing I want on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter is a party platter, Ham, or Turkey.
Give me a cocktail, steak, and garlic mashed potatoes any day!
Every year in recent memory I have cooked a full-on Thanksgiving dinner for my husband and me. It’s really important to him.
So I guess my husband is not the only one!
My husband also feels very strongly that NO holiday is properly celebrated unless there are mashed potatoes.
There are only a few holiday foods I feel really strongly about. Pumpkin flan, either Thanksgiving or Christmas or both, Cranberry Sauce (ditto), and Prime Rib (Christmas, when we can afford it).
mashed potatoes are an important food group to me
I’m not allowed to make the mashed potatoes. I failed once by not using enough butter and cream, so my husband makes them now. He does, however, give me kudos for my stuffing and gravy.
We haven’t made mashed potatoes for a holiday in years. They just aren’t the same without gravy, and the drippings from a smoked turkey don’t make one that is edible.
My husband calls turkey “the lowest of the foul”, so we’re having crab cakes! There are some perks to tiny Thanksgiving…
I am relieved to be off baking duty this year (I’m always tasked with pies and buns at SIL’s thanksgiving feast). Making a lasagna just for me & the husband and very happy about it
very happy for you and your good sleep, apsara!
It is a strange time here in the LA area. Stay safe.
Like The Doors sang…people are strange, places look ugly…
Mani pedi sounds fabulous!
The rainy weather continued overnight and today,we had flash floods and almost all of the lower bridges as well. The Hennops river cuts through the estate I live in,and there are 12 bridges on the golf course,ALL FLOODED overnight!
But loving the rainy chill after one hell of a heatwave we had.
SOTD!Cozy in Serge Lutens L’Incendiaire(?sp?),the only one from that collection that I got to smell(and bought on the whim!)Lovely cozy comfort scent.
Just relaxing this weekend, there were so much drama had work this past week,I just want to “zero” this weekend.
Happy Weekend!
XO
Oh my, floods! Hopefully things will recede quickly. I loved the overnight rains followed by sunny days in Joburg. You smell great, I have L’incendiare also but tend to forget about it. Hope you have a relaxing weekend!
I received the cutest mini dabber bottle with my purchase,I’ll use this up first before I start using the big bottle!
Sunny days are in the forecast for this coming week so yay for that!
I love that you know places like Joburg too!Haha!
Happy Weekend T!
XO?
Yikes, flash floods are scary! We had one here a couple of years ago and an elderly gentleman actually died when he tried to get out of his car.? Water is so powerful and it can happen so quickly!
Enjoy your “zero” weekend, you’ve earned it!
Thanks Madtowngirl, this past week was one for the record books!
With the rains last year,a man was pulled off a bridge by the floodwaters, they found him a couple of yards away from my building,in the river.I can’t swim(no seriously,I never learned),so I always get a little anxious when the almost annual flooding happens here.
I can’t swim either, johano.
Well,at least we can smell fabulous while drowning(bad bad joke,I know, sorry!)
?✌??
Not being able to swim came up recently in another conversation. Since I grew up in California, it was just something you learned (and was included in physical Ed classes.)
But…I don’t think being able to swim would help in a flash flood. We’d all be pretty helpless in that situation.
Flash floods and work drama are plenty of reason for a zero weekend! Hope you have something good to binge.
The binge list is out of control, like the weather!Haha!??
Flash floods sound scary! I hope you have a very relaxing weekend.
Thanks Birdy16,luckily the river subsided quite rapidly after yesterdays’ chaos.Happy Weekend to you as well!
Yikes! Take care of yourself and be safe. And fragrant. ?
Always fragrant!Thanks MrsGoldsmith!??
This was very early…MissGoldsmith!XO
As I accidentally commented on the other thread, today I am wearing a spritz of Memoir, one of my 11/10 scents. I love it from beginning to lingering end. I am still waiting to digest my breakfast before my weekly run, so we will see how Memoir plays with a warm body on a cold morning. We had a dense fog advisory overnight, and it still looks pretty damp out there.
Mmm, I love Memoir! Really foggy here too this morning. Heading upstairs for Zoom yoga. 🙂
I hope your yoga session was great! My run was fine. I don’t love running in the cold. It hurts my throat and lungs. But, I checked off the box, so good enough for this week. 🙂
I have disappeared that comment for you 🙂
Thanks. Now we can go back to pretending I’m perfect. ?
I wore Memoir a couple of days ago (without thinking about the CP – I was busy the whole week and missed reading NST). But now I see that I was on CP! 🙂 This perfume is like the Energizer Bunny – keeps going and going and going. And I love it!
Yes, the way it lasts and slowly evolves for hours (days?), makes me very happy!
My SOTD is L’Artisan’s Noir Exquis, which is a very sweet, warm and comfy gourmand. Chestnuts and a teensy bit of orange, some vanilla and tonka. It’s nice, and I’m happy to be wearing it today. Nonetheless, I think there are plenty of frags out there with similar profiles that serve just as well, and are much less expensive.
Have a lovely weekend, everybody!
I agree, Noir Exquis is not groundbreaking but very pleasant to wear. You smell yummy. 🙂
It is true, but all the same I would buy it if it came in a smaller size.
Me too!
You smell wonderful. I don’t wear that one enough, but when I do, I kick myself just a little for not wearing it more.
Had a rough night Thursday and not feeling up to perfume yesterday, but I’d like to share my current 11/10 love, 4160 Tuesdays Clouds. It’s not what I would have suspected would be such a huge love for me, the oriental incense fiend, but it’s become a real addiction. I’ve impoverished myself buying up as much as I can (it was a crowdfunded LE, current stock version is Both Sides of Clouds). Loads of naturals and $$$$ but so worth it. I think it is Sarah McCartney’s best work to date.
On the other end of the spectrum, due to internet chatter I’ve bought a couple of cheapies, Adam Levine for her and Korres Saffron Iris. Haven’t received the Adam Levine yet but Saffron Iris is perfect for a bedtime after shower scent. Got the gift pack of shower gel, lotion & edt on Mercari. Wore it last night and had a restful night.
I have Clouds Illusion, and a small size of Clouds — love them!! And joining you at the other end of the spectrum, I also love Adam Levine for Her. Such a bargain beauty! In fact, I may pull that out today, it goes so well with crisp but sunny autumn days, which is our current weather.
I’ll second the Adam Levine for her,an underrated celeb scent! This and Truth or Dare deserves much more love!!(Madonna will always be my favorite,so maybe some bias from my side…haha)
Glad you had a more restful night last night.
Sorry for the bad night and day, cazaubon.
Adam Levine for Her is the perfect blind buy! It’s deliciously creamy and comforting.
Sold. Blind bought this on the spot! Now I can’t wait for delivery….
Me too. It’s been on my buy list for ages and right now just seems like the right time.
Creamy! I tried this one early in my trip down the rabbit hole, and it was harsh on me. I must have had a bad sample. I may need to try this one again.
Thirding Adam Levine for Her! It’s quite nice.
I also did a blind buy of Adam Levine. Need to wear it more often. It’s good.
Time for me to re-sniff Adam Levine for Her.
I just looked up clouds – it sounds lovely!
It really is! Totally calming and uplifting.
Just blind bought Adam Levine for her as well!!!
Oh, I have the Saffron Orris too. It’s great.
We’re taking advantage of both my husband and I working from home and not traveling to tackle several major home repair/restoration projects. We’ve completed the outside woodwork and total exterior repainting; our old house looks so much better now! We redid the roof in the spring, so our exterior really looks great. We got the last of the house’s electricity updated also (we still had three upstairs bedrooms with old wiring and outlets), but that required holes in walls. Holes got refilled, but we’re holding off on repainting interiors because — surprise! We had a plumbing mishap that has turned into a big restoration project. So my house now is a total mess — it’s a good thing we don’t expect to host anyone here for months. I think I’ll be able to make progress on a garden overhaul outside, though. So much to do! But I’m so thankful to have children nearby or at home, and the ability to make these repairs and upgrades. Can anyone suggest an “eau de renovation”, lol?
Something to keep you calm, centred and smelling fresh after a hard day of labor in the garden!Anything in your collection that fits the bill?
??
Actually, DSH’s Smudge Nebula works. It has a freshness that my other more ambery scents lack.
Sounds perfect!
Wow! Sounds like you’ve got a lot going on, but I bet the outside of your house looks great! Our house is need of painting too, it’s been 10+ years since we had it last done. I’m guessing you have an old house? I love old houses, ours was built in 1937, but they do seem to always need some work.
For perfume I would say Tam Dao, a great keep calm and carry on perfume.
Yes, it was built in 1905. We last painted when we built an addition in 2006, and we had some rotted trim that desperately needed replacing. All done!
I have an affinity for old houses – I grew up on Eastern L.I. in a home built in the early – 1800’s, complete with a carriage house and servant’s quarters. It was drafty, cold, and creaky but so much fun to play hide and seek in as a child. My husband, a contractor, hates old houses with a passion.
He’s of the opinion they are money pits. He’s probably correct but I love them anyway. 🙂
Your husband is SO right!
So sorry about the plumbing mishap!
We are doing lots of rehab stuff this year too. I have painted just about the whole inside, and we are replacing doors and windows, etc etc — although we hired an exterior painter this time, I decided we were too old for doing the eaves on a ladder anymore.
When the house was totally discombobulated inside, the best thing for me was the Francis Kurkdjian version of Papier d’Armenie papers. Made the whole house smell peaceful.
If you want to scent yourself, I 2nd madtowngirl…there is nothing like Tam Dao.
I do like Tam Dao, and I think I can add it to my scent subscription, so that’s a great idea!
Robin, I love that FK special edition. They’re truly special, lol!
Yikes, and I felt accomplished for just cleaning out my spice cupboard!!
Gotta do that too! Both my young adult daughters moved home this past summer and brought all their spices to add to mine, so my cup(board) overfloweth!
Wow, that’s impressive work! I agree with the other on Tam Dao.
Wow, that’s a lot in a short time! You seem to be in a much better mood about it than I would have been. Tam Dao does sound like a good choice.
I’m in Casmir. Another sunny but cool day, not quite sure what I’ll do with it yet. I have lots on the to do list but I also feel like I need some r and r.
Somehow it is the end of November! This fall has been a whirlwind for me, I’m hoping the winter goes just as fast, lol.
Since this is a lazy weekend poll, I have a question: if you were offered a job doing exactly what you wanted to be doing and you knew it would be less physically and mentally stressful, but slightly less money, would you take it? Asking for a friend.?
Without a doubt YES,is the answer to your question.
If 2020 taught me anything,it is to do what makes you happy, and that money REALLY does not buy happiness.
Tell “your friend” to Just.Do.It!
✌?
Lol, thanks johanob. Such true words.✌️
I would even take WAY less money — unless the money amount was so low that I’d have to stress about how to pay bills, absolutely, no question.
No point dying younger so as to have more toys.
Exactly what Robin said.
I’m with Robin. If I could be sure I would have a steady income that would allow me to pay essential bills and, which is even more important, healthcare costs for as long as I need it, I would have taken a significant pay cut. I enjoy what I’m doing but I really need less pressure (and a lot less politics above me)!
No kidding. Every Monday, our boss sends us an email about how it’s time to grind and crank it up to 150mph. Even Secretariat has a month off between races. Even if you get your work in early so you can work at a moderate pace on Thur-Fri, she’ll assign a teammates work to keep you “ busy”. Being great is never good enough. I can’t wait to get out of this job. Sure the harder I work the more I earn, but it’s exhausting. Not worth it anymore.
Sending that email every week seems like an obviously bad idea. Good luck finding something else!
If the slightly less money still lets you pay the mortgage, then absolutely!
I’m with Johanob and Robin. Unless it is going to cause some significant hardship that could be stressful I’d say ‘take it!’
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!
I agree with all these comments. I remember hearing an interview with someone who worked with terminally ill patients, and she commented that no-one on their deathbed has ever said they wished they had spent more time at work. That has stuck with me.
Yes!
100% yes! Being happy in your job is worth millions.
A resounding YES!
Absolutely. It’s easy to adapt to less money. When one is content and happy, one has fewer “needs”.
Important consideration–would “they” still have money in the budget for perfume?
Lol!
Haha, I like the way you think Majorie Rose.?
YES!!!
Re: your salary question. Yes! If that amount can cover bills and maybe have a bit of mad money, do it! One of my biggest regrets was taking a job only for the money. Those golden handcuffs made me miserable.
Chiming in with “yes’!
If I were offered a job doing exactly what I wanted with less physical and mental stress, but slightly less money, would I take it?
Given my health issues, as long as I had good health insurance, I would.
I work in a very political, toxic work environment, working from home has reduced my stress by 50%. I sleep better and am less aggravated, that’s for sure!
Yes I would take that job in a second
Agree with all comments above! Yes!
Yes, yes, yes. A couple of decades ago, I basically traded a middle-class job (comfortable pay, but not like gobs of money) that was no end of stress for one that left me just over the poverty line, but was fulfilling and intellectually stimulating and working for better people? It probably saved my life and I have honestly never regretted it. Take. That. Job. 🙂
Adding another resounding yes! I gave up a teaching job in one of the highest paying districts in the state for a shorter commute and better school culture a few years ago, and I am soooo glad I did. How exciting and congratulations!
Thank you to everyone for your words of wisdom. My “friend” is happy she made the switch, but sometimes it’s easy to start doubting yourself.?
So much has happened in the last year and it’s really reminded me that life is too short.
I’d take it in a second. Life’s too short to compromise for just a little more money.
Big yes to that question. I refused a couple of promotions so I could avoid stress. The extra money is not worth it.
Your comment made me remember that my husband and I have both given up admin-heavy jobs that paid more but made us crazy! So I guess I live my own advice. Haha.
SotD My Insolence. Sweet almonds with a classy floral fruity middle. It is not like Insolence IMHO. If I spritz on a lot, the tonka bean note comes out and that does not work so well for me. But one or two sprays and the almonds and florals swirl around. It is way overpriced on E**y but I waited until I found good deal. Don’t pay unicorn prices for this one. Sorta scolding myself here….
but the swirly bottle is so much fun, yes? 🙂
Yes; I went a bit nuts and now have all the versions in the swirly bottle, except the extrait. I love that bottle! It’s by Serge Mansau, who designed many perfume bottles.
So much Insolence, you’re me perfume hero! 🙂 I adore the old Insolence bottle, and was so surprised when Guerlain repackaged it in the bee bottle! 😯
I love the Eau des Merveilles and 24 Faubourg bottles so much, I think they are also by Mansau.
TMI, but the only Insolence swirly I passed on was simmering edition. I accidently got an Estee Lauder Beautiful Shimmering something or other, and I just don’t like little shiny flakes on my person. And, I think you are right about bottles: https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Serge-Mansau-Master-of-the-Bottle-11921.html
thank you for the link, fascinating 🙂
I don’t like shimmery either!
Uh oh. I’m a sucker for almonds….
Let me know if you would like a sample, kclberry in the netty netty scape of dotty net.
SOTM is Costes for laundry interspersed with coffee and crossword puzzling.
You smell wonderful for doing anything, including laundry!
Not yet spritzed in today, but probably an incense something….just feels right. Finally got a new TV…no traveling this year and it looks like another winter “home alone” so I thought let’s get some entertainment lined up. This is my first smart TV (I know, I’m older than dirt, and so was my TV), so what streaming services must I have? I don’t want to go crazy, but what are the best shows not to miss? Looking forward to your suggestions!
I think Netflix and/or Amazon Prime?
If you get Netflix I recommend the miniseries The Queens’s Gambit! Definite binge watch worthy!
My recommendations are probably old news by now but here goes:
Netflix: The Queen’s Gambit, Schitt’s Creek, The Crown, Grace and Frankie, The Kominski Method.
Amazon Prime: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, Durrells in Corfu.
I especially enjoy Amazon prime.
And I’ll add that I also like Netflix but I don’t like Hulu – just too overwhelming. We use YouTube TV which I also really like.
I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and PBS Passport.
If your TV has a decent speaker it is also nice to have Tune In (listen to just about any radio station in the world), and if your library participates in Kanopy (you can check on the Kanopy website), that will get you free movies (mostly indie & world & documentary, really good selection) a month and the app of course is free. My library lets you have 4 a month but every library is different, some do more or less.
Hope everyone gets to enjoy a calm and peaceful weekend. I’ve done some quick shopping in the morning and then I had a bike ride early in the afternoon.
Now I’m just sipping tea and enjoying a baked apple my mom made.
Ambra di Luna by Ramon Monegal is my SOTD.
Sounds like yesterday was a good day, hope Sunday was equally restful!
Decided on Cabotine today, but it got on my nerves some hours later. Did lots of shopping for the next week. Pork cheeks with Brussel sprouts and herbed polenta for dinner. And some French cookies for dessert.
Your dinner sounds amazing. I’ve had beef cheeks, but not pork cheeks yet.
Carnal Flower for me. Went for a very long Walk with one of my new colleagues; it was fun.
Carnal Flower and a very long walk sound like heaven to me. 🙂
Yes!
You smell amazing! I bet the fall colors are a treat in Luxembourg right now. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Hello NST! I’m trying to avoid in-person holiday shopping and will likely do a blind fragrance buy for my teenage son (FWIW, he’s a total extrovert and doing his senior year of high school from home has been an extreme disappointment). He’s working through his first full bottle of Acqui de Gio and I’d like to provide him with some variety. I’d love some recommendations for a very easy fragrance as when I’ve brought him samples of things outside of the ordinary he wasn’t quite ready to go there. Thanks in advance for any recommendations you may have!
My 19 year old son enjoys Cool Water, which comes in a range of products. He actually asked for a restock, so I know he likes it! Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur is also really nice and unisex, I may be giving him that for Christmas.
Our TJX had Memoire d’une Odeur. Just sayin’…
Who doesn’t love a fab
TJ Maxx score?
Great that you son asked for a restock…he knows what he likes! Thanks for the coffret ideas too!
P.S. I’m a big fan of giving a coffret or sampler with a gift certificate so the recipient has choices. Acqua di Parma makes a cute coffret. Macy’s has an online Black Friday sale on now with coffrets from Ralph Lauren Polo and other brands that are probably pretty safe blind buys. And if he doesn’t like any, he can use the gift card for something else!
I second this idea. The Sephora men’s sample set great, and he can use the certificate to get a full size of the one he likes best.
Agree, I love the coffret idea! Will check out Macy’s and Sephora!
ULTA also has coffret sets for the holidays.
I enjoy Diesel Only the Brave Tattoo edition a lot! It’s one of my no-brainer scents, and I always get complimented on it.Easy masculine with an interesting liquorice note, might be a distant cheaper cousin to Fahrenheit.Speaking of Dior, you can never go wrong with Dior Homme.Swoon.
So many option, thank you! In the US one has to be 18 years old to get a tattoo. Since my son just turned 18 he is excited to get one, but can’t decide what he wants. I have nothing against tattoos, I just don’t want him to get something he may regret. Maybe the Bravo Tattoo will satisfy him temporarily ?
Maybe we just found the solution to two conundrums, yes!Haha!
You can always include a book on tattoos in the gift,to show your distant support!I love the designs and have a couple of books about it myself, but I’ll never actually get one.
I was/am still a MASSIVE Ed Hardy/Christian Audigier fan as well.?✌?
Great idea! ?
My husband, the lovely “Mr. Spicebomb” smells fabulous in that safe, but still interesting scent.
Great recommendation and I think I may have a sample (which I intended to wear myself). I’ll have to take a look around and ask him to give it a sniff.
The various Hermès ones, like Orange Verte, Pamplemousse Rose are fresh and easy to wear. My husband’s absolute favorite is The Santa Maria Novella classic Eau, which is pricier. My personal favorite on him is Colonia.
Cannot go wrong with Hermes!
Maybe a bottle of Timbuktu from one of the online discounters?
Timbuktu is one of those fragrances I’ve read about ever since discovering NST but have never had a chance to sniff!! I’m intrigued!
MUST.SNIFF.AT.LEAST.ONCE!?
Agree!!!
Seconding Timbuktu. My husband also smells really good in Givenchy Vetyver. Very classy scent.
I would really recommend Uomo by Valentino- easy to like but still smells like quality
I will check it out!
Do you mean the black bottle “signature” version?
I think that’s a flanker – the original bottle is brown colored. I got a decant of this from HJ so she would know for sure!
???
Oh yes, that is a good one as well
Eau Sauvage!
I forgot about that one, I’ll look into it!
Agree!
Guerlain Imperial
So many thoughtful suggestion!! Thank you all!
Maya Njie’s Nordic Cedar and little Vanilj on the other arm.
Twinning you today, split arms and all. This because I just did a Zoom smelling event with Maya hosted by Tigerlily in SF. Good stuff!
Awwwww hello there twinny!
I really like this combo too!
she’s lovely isn’t she?
I am anxious to try Tabac as well as Tropical.
Funny thing is, I’d gotten a Tobac sample prior to this and didn’t love it. Today I really am. As for Tropica, normally “coconut, pineapple and suntan lotion” would not appeal. This is very dry and restrained. I like it. Both very definitely worth a try!

Reading A Rogue of ones own
Ciao!
I just purchased the NEW Cary Grant Biography. It’s big and like him gorgeous. Sounds fascinating too.
Scent twins!
Sunday morning here, it’s a wet day, so I’ll definitely focus on cozy indoor activities. I can still smell last night’s SL Fleur d’Orangers, which is one of my many 11s.
I’m working my way through my latest samples from Luckyscent. I love Atelier des Ors’ Rouge Sarây, but it is wildly expensive and a bit like some other things. To distract me from that, I’ve just ordered some more samples from Surrender to Chance – that might not be the wisest strategy 🙂
Seems the whole southern hemisphere is wet wet wet right now!
Love Fleurs d’Orangers!
??
I keep telling myself I won’t order anymore samples. Then I do it again. The hunt for the next great scent is never satisfied!
So true
Here’s a quick update on the owl that was found in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree:
https://6abc.com/pets-animals/owl-found-in-rockefeller-center-xmas-tree-could-take-flight-soon/8147443/
??
Oh, thank you for the link! I missed this news, and it made me smile.
You’re welcome!
I looked too.
Did they name him?
That orange knit sweater they have h
him wrapped in is definitely HIS color!!
There’s a holiday book in there somewhere.
AngelaB, that little owl was nicknamed “Rockefeller”.
SotD = Ambre Narguile
from a darling Hermes travel bottle sent to me by a perfumed angel.
🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m in heaven as I sniff AN along with the drydown of last night’s L’Heure Bleue. An odd pairing, but they’re both delicious scents, so it works nicely.
In silly personal news, does anyone have any experience with anxiety/sleeplessness caused by glutamates in food? I’m going to try a theanine supplement but am open to other ideas.
Happy weekend to each one of you, dear fragrant friends!
I have a friend who is a Chinese medicine practitioner and she swears by Rhodiola to balance anxiety and depression. Not an answer to your question, though. Sorry!
thank you, Amyitis 🙂 I had not heard of Rhodiola, now I’m off to investigate!
You smell wonderful. 🙂
thank you, cazaubon 🙂 I enoyed Ambre Narguile so much yesterday that I’m indulging again today, waft waft waft! 🙂
Trying another sample today! Went with a spritz of Anima Dulcis. The incense/gourmand combination is getting me in a festive holiday mood. Researching recipes for Cornish game hens, which is our down-sized Thanksgiving poultry pick for this year.
I love Anima Dulcis, might wear it tomorrow!
So far I’m liking it a lot!
I wish I had thought of that! One year my grandmother did game hens for Thanksgiving. Everyone at the table got their own bird, or a half for each of the kids. I thought it was fantastic. 🙂
Yes, no fighting over who gets the drumsticks!
Anima Dulcis is probably my most favourite vanilla scent.
Yes, I’ve been on the hunt for vanilla scents that work for me and Anima Dulcis is top of the list so far.
Will there be a list of Cyber Monday perfume specials coming up? I have been mostly working on samples and decants recently, a pleasant enough way for my nose to pass the time, but it might be nice to get myself a holiday present…
I just used a coupon code for Serge Lutens, 20FIRST, for 25% off a bottle of Gris Clair. I haven’t seen any other announcements, yet.
Keep an eye on the Etat Libre D’Orange site on Black Friday – last year the US site had a buy one bottle, get a 30 ml bottle free deal. There was a good selection of bottles to choose from – I picked Fils de Dieu.
I’ve seen lots of perfume companies, mainly indie perfumers with some niche, post about their sales on Instagram. So far I haven’t seen any of the major online retailers say anything about their upcoming sales.
A few that I’m interested in are: DSH Perfumes with bright20 as the 20% code, Füm Fragrances has 25% off bottles through Dec. 15 with code READYFOR2021, Strange Invisible Perfumes is doing 25% off Nov. 27-30 with no code provided yet. I’ve never known SIP to do discounts, so I’m considering a small back up bottle of Prima Ballerina, one of my favorite rose perfumes.
Oh, and not perfume but Boy Smells is doing 20% off their core candle collection now through Nov. 30 with code BLACKCANDLE.
I bet people will post more deals in this week’s SOTD comments. ?
Thanks, everyone!
Wearing Iris Torréfié today and I like it very much. Definitely not a powerhouse but I find that spraying extra (a la Hajusuuri) makes up for its quiet and relatively short lived presence.
I did not get a chance to post yesterday but I wore Taklamakan, one of my 11s. Such a beautiful and comforting balsamic vanilla amber.
Wishing you all a relaxing weekend!
Hmmm Taklaman sounds cozy. Off to Google
I also got confused and thought the post-meet poll was the regular poll. So babbled about some non-meet things in addition to posted question. Oh, well! Excuse to post again.
I’ve now got the entire Maya Njie collection sprayed on various bits of my arms. Just attended a Zoom sniffing event hosted by Tigerlily in SF. Really enjoy these events. I think this is the 3rd or 4th one I’ve done.
Tigerlily has a virtual perfume-making class coming up, FYI. Check the site if your interested. I’m debating. I’m not too interested in crafting my own perfume, but I would like to improve my knowledge of the craft itself.
Sorry. I fear I led you astray. . . Thanks for keeping me company over there. 🙂
Hi NST, I think I missed the whole week and I missed you guys. This is my first Saturday “off” in months – from taking care of mom, but still. As much as I love/enjoy/am grateful for time with my mother in her 90s, caretaking does feel relentless sometimes. Watching college football and wearing Memoirs of a Trespasser today while my husband and I eat our way through some pimento cheese I made yesterday. So good! Enjoy your weekend everyone.
Oooh, feel free to share your pimento cheese recipe! Utz brand pretzels (midwestern) dipped in pimento cheese is a *fine* snack! As a crazed pretzel lover, the other that I love are Snyder’s Homestyle – I think they are East Coast. Both Utz and Snyders are extra dark and have that umami going on.
Pretzels would be great with this. The basic recipe is 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar, a 2oz jar of pimentoes, drained and chopped and 1/3 cup mayonnaise. I add about 1/4 teaspoon each dry mustard, garlic & onion powder and paprika plus a few dashes of Tabasco sauce and a spoonful of horseradish. All the measurements are approximate, feel free to leave something out or add something else, just let it chill for an hour so the flavors can blend.
Got it – sounds like what I was looking for. I will let you know how it turns out.
Oh and of course, thank you! 🙂
I hope your Saturday was relaxing and fabulous. Being a caretaker is so draining.
Caretaking is tough, enjoy your restful weekend.
Kelly Calèche parfum as I went off to meet a friend for a walk in the park. Even got a compliment.
Fabulous people and dog watching in the Park. And great music and dance (sound up):
https://www.instagram.com/p/CH3e0eEpHA7/?igshid=o8x48205uw2t
Back home now watching college football while my husband makes split pea soup.
Kelly Caleche was my first purchase after joining the NST family. You smell lovely!!
Lazy day today. I had all the intention to run errands and catch up on cleaning, but that has to wait until tomorrow. I have been watching tv and napping the whole day. I needed some rest.
Post shower I sprayed on Comme des Garcons Ouarzazate
which I like a lot! Earlier in the morning, I dabbed on some Zagorsk and after a couple of minutes it gave me a very annoying headache. It has been on my perfume shopping list fo a while, but I am no so sure anymore. I may go for Montale Full Incense instead, if I really want to get a full bottle. Let’s see what my Christmas present to myself will be.
Happy weekend, everyone! ?
I was half-lazy today, but except for preparing Thanksgiving dinner, I am going to use the rest of the week AND my wonderful bosses’ gift of Friday off for ZZZZZZZZZ!
I am jealous of your Friday off. Enjoy it! I will work half a day on Wednesday and back to work on Friday. I am loo
king forward to rest during the weekend.
I took a 3 hour nap today. After months of starting work at 5 AM, it was unbelievably luxurious and restorative. I applaud your Zzzzz plans!
Ugh, a perfume headache is not good at all! Maybe try Zagorsk at a later date to see if it still doesn’t agree with you?
Definitely! I will try it again in a couple of more days and hopefully it will not be headache inducing!
Sounds like a great day! Minus the headache, of course.
Nice and quiet day! Headache is luckily gone by now!
I heard the CdG incense collection is being discontinued, so be advised. However I think Montale Full Incense is wonderful.
Oh no! Thanks a lot for the info on the Incense Series. I need to get that bottle of Zagorsk now! Full Incense is gorgeous. I may added to my purchase too!
?
Yes, what Jalapeno said!
sorry about your headache! I got a headache from Zagorsk, too, exactly like the one Bvlgari Black gave me. They have some notes (and perhaps aromachemicals) in common. I wish I knew more about perfume chemistry.
I also got a headache from Bvlgari Black the one and only time I tried it. It was a monster. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
I managed to get some of my Thanksgiving groceries today, even though I had a late start. Still have more shopping to do, though. At least the weather cooperated today, with mild temps, no wind, and no rain.
SOTD = Agent Provocateur Eau Provocateur EdT, from the sample stash. This is what I would call a “summer version” of the original Agent Provocateur perfume. Lighter and a little more floral. Pretty!
I did the shopping too – was worried celery might get picked over if not run out. We are doing turkey legs this year; otherwise, all the usual fixin’s.
No main course here yet. I did grab ingredients for the side dishes. Mr. Jalapeno’s must haves are broccoli casserole and my version of sage, onion, and giblet dressing/stuffing. (I do realize that giblets are polarizing as a foodstuff!)
I love broccoli casserole! I’m the only one though, so I never make it.
Just slathered on Hempz Pumpkin Spice & Vanilla Chai lotion and put the last of some Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla EDP from a generous NSTer on top…kind of wreaking havoc. 😉
Well, that sounds like it would smell really yummy. I still have my Rihanna Rebelle lotion, body wash and perfume combo to wield, and a spicy vanilla cloud sounds as fun as the Rebelle chocolate strawberry cloud. My vanilla of the week was Tocade. Oh, and did you say you tried and liked the Mugler Aura? It’s very vanilla forward to me…
Sorry, I missed this in my emails. I did try Aura and it is lovely and very vanilla forward. I haven’t tried Rihanna REbelle but it sounds nice and will check out reviews!
That sounds incredible!
Very late, we’re recovering for eating far too much yesterday!
My SOTD is vintage Coco EDP. Oh boy what a glorious beast this is!
How did the b-day dinner turn out?
It sounds like your weekend is off to a great start! ?
You smelled great!
Also wanted to echo everyone above thread about the safe and fun haven that is NST!
Soup of the day: Petra by Sweet Anthem. Nice fall fragrance. Even though temps are a little warmer than last week. But I’ll take it.
Oh, I love Petra! I still have some of the solid perfume and a sample of the liquid perfume. I wish I’d thought to buy a large bottle when I could.
Mine was a sample from a freebiemeet. It was a good amount, and I used the whole thing anyway, thinking that it would knock people out, but it wasn’t that bad. Stayed close to the skin. Like a nice little cocoon of scent.
Started the day in Arquiste No 57 for Jcrew. This bottle has been on my swapmeet list for awhile but I’m glad no one wanted it cuz all of a sudden I’m really liking it! It smells like a Manhattan.
Around midday I put on Angel Muse. This bottle has been lurking in my closet for 3 years and I finally opened it. It’s a little sweet for me.
Ended the evening with even more sweet – Musc Ravageur. I smell like a butter cookie.
Tomorrow I will start packing for the great roadtrip to Texas. Not a moment too soon cuz we are getting our first snowfall tomorrow!
I really like No. 57 too! There’s a Jo Malone that resembles it, by the same perfumer, called Whisky and Cedarwood.
Ooh, I love Manhattans!
The Manhattan is my go-to cocktail. No wonder I love No. 57 so much! I’m wondering if Elizabeth James Bourbon could be a decent replacement.
FWIW, I tried the E&J Bourbon and found it to be a tobacco scent. I seem to amp up tobacco notes. YMMV, of course.
Ha…good to know. Did you like it?
I didn’t, because tobacco. That’s one of my “NOPE!” notes.
I’m wearing Dzing! today from a small decant. For awhile it annoyed me, but I love the drydown. I’m dealing with family issues and it’s bringing me down. Too bad. On Weds I had a great visit to our brand new multimillion dollar addition to the art museum here. It’s just stupendous, both architecture and art are enthralling. I’m so excited about that. Limited members-only opening and everyone in masks, etc. Mom’s place is in lockdown again after two positive staff cases. Worrisome. Kind of a roller coaster ride these days. No company for my usual Thanksgiving dinner but I plan to make some good food and take servings over to two friends. I’m trying out a new recipe tonight for Costa Rican black bean dip. Yum!
Sorry to hear about your family issues and lockdown at Mom’s. Sending hugs!
I hope the rollercoaster levels out soon. It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot.
I really miss museums – thank you for describing your visit!
Hoping things get better family-wise, including with your mom, may she stay safe.
I took the turkey back out of the freezer, lol. This year I bought sweet potatos, anyone have a simple recipe on how to cook them that doesn’t involve roasting?
My sotd is Alien essence absolue. This one is just a like for me, as I prefer the original.
I do love roasted sweet potatoes, but I often take the shortcut of baking (or microwaving) them, scooping out the insides, and mashing it with brown sugar, butter, and salt. My Grandma always made a casserole, but it was basically a dessert pretending to be a side!
Microwave shortcut is perfect for me. Thanks!
Nigella Lawson has a nice recipe with lime juice and tamari added. She bakes them, but I also just put them in the micorwave like irisjasmine. To gild the lily I snip some marshmallows on top and then just pop it under the grill until puffed and scorched.
I definitely want marshmallows. Thanks!
My family recipe is to cut up the sweet potatoes then sauté in pan with butter, brown sugar and marmalade for at least an hour until you achieve the texture you want, top with marshmallows and put in oven until marshmallows are nice and toasty. The marmalade is the key.
Sorry I don’t have any ratios written down anywhere.
Lol, I got my turkey yesterday. We’re just doing a turkey breast this year, there will only be the four of us since johnny utah isn’t coming home?and he’s the one who usually eats the legs.
Sorry, I’m no help on the sweet potatos.
Aww… I hope Johnny can make it home for Christmas!
My Mom used to make a dish with mashed sweet potato, brown sugar, some honey, and crumbled ginger biscuits. It was just mashed and then the other stuff added, tossed, and voila.Sometimes she added the marshmallows as well, slightly toasting them under the grill,or simply make a fantastic event out of it with her blowtorch!Haha!
I can’t cook really,so I miss those dishes!
I can’t cook either, so there is never a voila moment in my kitchen, lol
You can microwave or bake them just like Idaho potatoes and fork mash them with butter or apple cider, or just serve them plain. It’s nice to have one or two straightforward things on the Thanksgiving table. One year,my mom and I went to a cooking class by a distinguished restauranteer. It was great fun and we were given many recipes. That Thanksgiving, we made vanilla infused Brussels sprouts, tomato water something or other, and bourbon maple everything. Ea dish was delicious, but overall it was like one of those high concept production classic operas, where the post appocolptic sci fi costumes clash with the acrobatics, clash with the nineteenth century romantic music and a libretto which was based upon some 17th century play. the pallete had no place to rest
Unless your family wants a marshmallow topped aria, the sweet potatoes can just be sweet potatoes
Oh,and you an raostthem by sticking them in with the turkey when the turkey is about halfway through.
That sounds like one fancy thanksgiving!
I microwave my sweet potatoes.
I’ve never cooked sweet potatoes, so no help here. I’m also a somewhat recent convert to sweet potatoes. I hated them as a kid. As an adult, the first way I enjoyed them was as sweet potato fries with a bit of malt vinegar.
Winding down for the evening in Dame Desert Rose. Pretty! Like a neon pink rose dusted with something.
I also tried Valentino Voce Viva today, and I was surprised at how much I liked it! It smells familiar and a bit like a “mall scent” (I like plenty of designer scents; I just mean something like “designed to be pretty and appealing to the masses”) but it smells good, and it does develop into something a bit more indolic over time.
I love Desert Rose. It’s a great scent.
Today we were lucky to have some beautiful sunshine with the crisp fall air, so my boyfriend and I took a nice long walk after dropping off a package at the post office. I finished off my Atelier des Ors Pomelo Riviera sample from Indigo Perfumery. Indigo is my favorite place to get samples from because they use spray bottles. Anyway, Pomelo Riviera is a really nice grapefruit though the dry down is kinda dull and I’m not a fan of the gold flecks in the perfume. But it was a good pairing with the sunny day. On our walk we saw bunny pens in the front yard of two different houses, and one of the rabbits seemed really friendly. We stopped to watch these two rabbits, and the black and white one hopped over to us and put his nose through the fencing. Super cute! Later, a friendly cat came down from its porch to greet us, and I gave it lots of pets. We also walked by an apartment that always has two sweet hairless cats in the window. I’ve gotta say, all the charming animals really enhanced the walk.
Now post shower I’m in One by Smell Bent, which they describe as “old books and chai tea” and go on to list notes of aging paperbacks buried under cardamom, dark vanilla, dry wood me sweet musk. And that’s exactly it. I am almost done with a travel spray and think I’ve got another tucked away somewhere. I like it a lot…maybe the full bottle is in my future eventually.
Last, I wanted to share that Bruno Fazzolari makes soap now! He just launched his new soap collection, and I bought the three pack to try all of them. Scents are Lilac Toast, Honey Cedar, and Black Suede. Not affiliated, but I’m excited for them to arrive.
I agree about Indigo – spray samples are the best
Great story about your walk! DH and I are always on the lookout for the neighborhood cats on our walk. A bunny nose would be very fun!
Oh, pretty please do report back about those soaps! Lilac Toast is so tempting.
I will! I’m most intrigued by Lilac Toast too, but I may end up using one of the others first since they seem better suited to cold weather. We’ll see though.
Oh, Thanksgiving! I’m super excited to eat a nice big meal and to have a four day weekend. Since it’s just me and my boyfriend, we’re having pork tenderloin, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing (technically dressing but where I’m from you just called it stuffing no matter what), and green bean casserole. I’ve ordered a bourbon pecan pie from one of our favorite restaurants, and now the bf wants to make his mom’s cranberry muffins for breakfast – works for me!
Yum, I love pork tenderloin with mashed sweet potatos. Sounds like a great thanksgiving dinner!
A quick hello to say thank you to everybody posting recipes and interesting tidbits: MarjorieRose for your fruit cake recipe, OaklandFresca with her link to the fashion site (I rocked some of those trends in the early 90s: voluminous shoulders and matching sets – which my mom hated as she said it looked as though I was wearing pajamas). I always learn something or am simply amused and entertained by reading the comments. My little trivia for the day is to go Google “building a 20 million dollar mirror for the world’s largest telescope”. Just POLISHING one of the six mirrors takes 18 months.
SOTD yesterday: Dia. And really: Pond’s Cold cream on me. No surprises, but I had to try it for myself.
Yesterday I wore Taunt by Dedcool – a great, slightly sweet vanilla/ bergamot. Today I’m wearing Sunday because it’s Sunday, but also because it just smells so dang good.
I’ve been in Fresh Cream Soft Suede for the last couple of days. Uncomplicated, undemanding and inexpensive, so I can spray away all day. Perfect.
Sunday morning, and SOTD is Carthusia 1681 for calm as I venture in to my office building to do some things I can’t from home. 1681 is truly lovely – its notes are tangerine, bergamot, coriander, thyme, rosemary, iris, neroli, lavender, petitgrain, black pepper, sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense, ambergris, vanilla, and musk. I mostly discern the lavender, iris and incense with the cedar and sandalwood anchoring the base. Wonderful stuff.
That does sound lovely. Putting on the sample list.
Sounds yummy!
I’ve been staying away from TV. However, I watched Boogie Nights last night. It’s super long and dark and gritty. Ended on a Good note, but there’s a lot to endure to get there. Comedies from now on. No perfume today, I started a new gym and it’s poor gym etiquette to musk up. I did see the EA green tea pomegranate at Tj max for 9.99, probably making a pre gym run.
I think it’s a great movie, but yeah, pretty dark. I read that Mark Wallberg regrets making it.
I think it was Burt Reynolds who regretted it. Shame, it’s a masterpiece. Every last performance is perfect, especially Don Cheadle’s.
Went kayaking this morning at 8 AM. It took a lot of will to leave the house at 7:30 AM when the temperature gauge said 37 degrees. But I did it. A friend came with, which was inspiration not to bail.
Morning on the water was lovely, not too cold, but did feel awkward as I had some bulky layers on top. Also feel more awkward as I’ve gained way too much weight since COVID. I’m less nimble. Doesn’t feel good. Only stayed out an hour as friend had flip flops (derp) and her toes were too cold (she was in a sit on top).
Had breakfast afterwards: a killer shrimp eggs Benedict. The place has nailed the Hollandaise sauce.
Scent this morning was another blind sample from Olfactif: vanilla and incense or tobacco, maybe a touch of booze? I should test it out side by side with Vanille Insensee.
Love the “(wo)man against nature” theme of bursting out on a cold morning! Virtually scrapping plates with you on a good Hollandaise sauce; note to self to revisit a local place that does it right, too.
“Shrimp eggs Benedict” sounds so delicious! ?
Shrimp with avocado, to boot. The last time I had it there, it was crab. Even better!
A dreary Sunday here, so I’m wearing another comforting vetiver – this one from Mazzolari. Today, it’s wearing very soft on me, and I’m getting a hint of powder. What I love most about it is that it never gives off any whiff of barbershop, which kills a lot of vetivers for me.
I was too late to post SotD yesterday, testing a sample of Xerjoff Richwood. I was still in CP mode, and I was very disappointed that it was not the 11 that I expected. Oh well, money saved. Lots of it, lol! ?
Would be nice to see the sun sometime soon, wouldn’t it?
Uh-huh.
Hoping we don’t have to take snow along with it! ?
A quiet foggy morning here, lazing around with the dog. Wearing 4160 Tuesdays Midnight in the Palace Garden.
Random goal from digging around in the mini drawer: thunk a 15ml of Hillary Duff With Love. I got all obsessed in early days of falling down the rabbit hole, and I have that and a couple back ups. It smells so nice, and I got it so cheap but…so little skin, so little time…. Today I started with Narciso White Cube on the wrist. Then, hours later, Avon Ever After; then more hours later, With Love. I have not enjoyed a thunk or even a tink in too long. And my dear sister is sending me some vintages (Carolina Herrara, big bottle with just a bit left; pristine-looking Quelques Fleures) she nabbed at an antique mall, soo falling further behind.
Vintage CH! Swoon?
Let’s hope the CH will be in good shape.! It was $12; about right for a primo sample, may 5ml; and the bottle was in good shape. A blind buy but it is in my wheelhouse so I hope I’ll be pleased.
Fingers crossed! Report back ?
“So little skin, so little time” = the perfumista life.
Kelly Calèche perfume again today, as I headed to church for the first time in over a month (travel + quarantine). Stopped in at Muji on the way home, and couldn’t resist a boxy cotton mock turtleneck top.
Oh! And I did resist temptation at Lush other than a small soap for my husband (Sultana). Was taken by the Almond scented shower gel, but they’re just so pricey. They had only one left, but I demurred. And the Cocktail scent was very nice, but I am trying to not buy any new scents. So, there’s that…
Agree with you on the Lush shower gel pricing. Bought a couple 4 ouncers recently to try them out. Not in love enough to shell out for full size.
Today I put on Chergui. We actually went OUT to Walmart to get a new microwave; the old one finally gave up yesterday. And also had to stock up on some essentials. Originally tried to do an online order but they wouldn’t deliver due to a few things being categorized as “grocery”; instead we’d have to schedule a pickup time. Not that convenient!
So we masked up and went out. Everyone was pretty good except for a few who don’t seem to know that their mask should actually cover their nose! Very glad to be home.
Recently we’ve been binge watching Fargo on Netflix; I’m always way far behind on the most current series to watch. In typical Fargo style, its always a bit like a car accident; you know you should look away, but can’t because its so intriguing! Great cast.
Today was gloomy and cloudy, but still seasonably warm. The clouds looked a lot like snow clouds this afternoon, though. A good day to stay home and do a load of laundry, plus assorted other homebody tasks.
SOTD = Diptyque Fleur de Peau, from the sample stash and a generous NSTer. Something about it strongly reminds me of Byredo Gypsy Water.
Sunday’s scent: Prima T, which suspiciously smells like – Coco, I think? It smelled familiar, and I may just be too tired to run thru all the scents in my head too figure it out. Nice stuff. Also, does anyone know if the layout of Fragrantica is changed? Or am I looking at a completely different site? Or am I just going nuts? (that would not be surprising nowadays).
Yes, the layout on Fragrantica has been changed. You aren’t losing it. ?
Random sample, Burberry Her, ugh. This smells like a really cheap hooker, stripper scent. Fruity, musky, ugh. Cheap and easy..in a bad way haha.
I agree. On YouTube it’s being hyped as a BR540 dupe. I wouldn’t know. The Burberry, though smells like fruit and ambroxan to me.
I didn’t think I’d have anything to say about wearing a fragrance this weekend, but I ended up dabbing from my sample of SL Rahat Loukoum at bedtime last night. This is a “love” of mine for what comes across to me as a powdery fruity/floral scent. Or maybe I’m just suggestible about the Turkish Delight concept. 🙂
My mother could not understand why I got a box of Turkish Delight to try a couple of years ago. She looked at the ingredients and said, “It’s just sugar and rose fragrance.” Then a few months later she read a book in which a character wanted to try Turkish Delight after reading the Narnia books, and suddenly it became clear to her. (lol!)
I got a lot of flower bulbs planted yesterday and today, so I feel like that was somewhat of an accomplishment. Mostly I planted them on the hill in front of our house. What I’m pretty sure will come back from the plantings of previous years are various kinds of daffodils. Mostly they’re white or yellow. I added more white (Narcissus moschatus) and yellow daffodils, with lavender and blue tulips and hyacinths interspersed. I planted a row/patch of tulips in shades of brown, orange and red-orange, with ‘Blue Pearl’ crocuses mixed in. The crocuses will be done before the tulips bloom, but some lavender, white (‘Jeanne d’Arc’), and yellow (‘Mammoth Yellow’) crocuses that I planted in that area two or three years ago might come back. I’ll see how it looks in the spring.
Bedtime scent on Sunday night: Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille. I find it soothing, but I didn’t sleep well. I’ll likely try to go back to sleep again soon.
I didn’t feel like planting bulbs was a total accomplishment, because I have some left. I have a few red tulips and some black (well, maroon-black) ones still to plant. I’m trying to think of a good place for them. Maybe in the “herb garden” behind the house, with lots of protection from squirrels and groundhogs and deer.
“Herb garden” is in quotes because most of the herbs I’ve tried to grow there have died. There’s still bee balm and lemon balm in there. The bee balm is a native plant and the lemon balm has naturalized in the back yard. I remember having a discussion here some weeks ago about how lemon balm will take over if you let it. I don’t mind because I like it. 🙂 That red-flowered variety of bee balm has leaves that have quite a nice orange scent.
I planted some lilies there earlier in the fall, well-wrapped in hardware cloth. I can do the same for the tulips. The good thing about that location is that it’s close to the dining room window, so you don’t have to go outside to enjoy seeing the flowers. 🙂
Very late to the Lazy Weekend Poll! Had a busy weekend but managed to fit in an OsswaldNYC Zoom on BDK perfumes. I like (very very) 3 but will be strong (very very) and only get one (yes I can!).
I also want to thank Robin for creating this space where 99% of the time, fellow commenters are gracious.
