Thursday scent of the day 11/12

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2020 201 Comments

I am very late, but happy Almost-Friday! It's also World Pneumonia Day, and we have a few birthdays: Grace Kelly, Booker T Jones, Neil Young. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Bakul Medjool, because nozknoz mentioned it yesterday.

Reminder: 11/13 will be Chanel No. 5 Friday! Wear Chanel No. 5, or a No. 5 flanker, or a fragrance that is related to No. 5 in some way — it does not have to be by Chanel!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

We are TWINS! How’s the longevity on you? Mine is now a skin scent after 5 hours.

Hi twin! The longevity is very poor on me also. It became a skin scent after 4 hours and gone after 5. I am on the EdT now which performs better, but I still prefer the Premiere.

It is the most wearable from all the No. 5 versións. Unfortunately it it doesn’t last on skin for too long.

    Good morning all! 😀
Today’s SOTD is Chance Eau de Parfum by Chanel, wafting powdery patchouli and iris.
Speaking World Pneumonia day, I received my pneumonia shot (Pneumovax23, it covers more strains) and although my arm is more than a bit tender, I’m glad to get it done. I think more protection is better – flu and pneumonia done and off my plate.
Espresso consumed – shoes on and I’m out the door! Will check in later with everyone!

      Hi almost twin!
When I had my flu shot this year I had to take Advil, my arm was so sore and swollen. Usually nothing happens.

        Hi almost-scent twin! *waves*
I know, the same goes for me! This was one of the few years my arm was tender. I’m glad I reminded them to give the shot in my non-dominant hand. 🙂

Lovely image, Robin. SOTD = La Liturgie des Heures, a wonderful churchy incense in the western tradition of incense. A nice warming scent for this chilly day.

STaying warm having a nice organic Ethiopian coffee, augmented with some Mexican hot chocolate, to make a sort of international mocha!

    Jubilation 25 (woman) by Amouage

    I gifted myself a bottle (50 ml) as a post-election present ?/ coronastress-relief gift / a feeling-sad-for-myself-for-all-the-tiresome-video-meetings-donation….

I found a good deal and could not forget about it the whole week.
Oh and I also ordered the Orange Verte shower gel. ?

    About jubilation 25…
when I tested it 2 years ago i was surprised the official notes did not mention oakmoss.
Now I am not THAT gifted when it comes to picking out notes, but this time I was so sure about the oakmoss. It’s kinda prominent…i would say.

Well….this FB came with an ingredients sticker and yessss….it lists oakmoss. So there you have it, I was not mistaken ???

SOTD is Guerlain Vega (the 2005 reissue). I vacillated between this and Van Cleef and Arpels First, but decided on the less symphonic scent.

I was feeling a little jittery this morning after my coffee so I am drinking some green rooibos.

    SotD = Mon Precieux Nectar

gooOOood morning, NST! I’m up and at ’em early today and soon will be off to the dentist for a checkup. I chose MPN, just a little spritz, because the fragrance is both present and gentle at the same time. Who could object? 😉

I’ve been Chanel No. 5-ing all week, communing with you all via the spirit of perfume. No. 5 EdP has been my bedtime scent. I do a spray in the air then walk through it. When I wake in the morning the drydown smells comforting.

    Happy Thursday, fragrant friends.

I know that Chance and all its flankers are not a big hit amongst perfumistas, but I like all my samples of Chance Eau Fraîche. Thats my scent today and I am sticking to it.

I visited the Chanel counter yesterday at BG to say goodbye to my saleswoman there, she is retiring. I have know her for 10 years and she did my makeup for part of my wedding celebrations. Today I am sampling some skincare (though I don’t like Chanel skincare since my skin is really sensitive ) but this hydra serum is really nice. The best thing I have tried thus far.

Starting off in Sycomore today, which has nothing to do with No. 5 other than being by Chanel. Vetiver is really hit or miss for me, but this one is a definite hit, although I don’t think I could get through a whole bottle. When will Chanel answer our prayers and do little 15mL coffrets like Hermes?

Accidentally fitting the CP in PPP Rose Boheme from a sample. On me it’s this giant old-school chypre. Its old-school-iness is what makes it Chanel No 5-esque to me. I am a fan of neither CN5 nor this scent. Oops.

I got nuttin for the CP. Chanel doesn’t work that well on me (although I must admit I haven’t done a great deal of testing beyond No. 5, No. 19, Coco and Chance).

SOTD is Eau d’Italie Jasmine Leather, which thus far (about 30 seconds in) is remarkably light and sweet. After a minute, the leather shows up. It’s kind of dry and dusty, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Sadly, I don’t get a huge hit of saffron, though I think it probably contributes to the dry and dusty aspect. There are some florals floating around the top, but they don’t strike me as strongly jasmine. Maybe more reminiscent of jasmine tea. Definitely wearable, and probably a hit for those who like light leather (that sounds a little kinky).

    Have a great day, all!

In Egypt by Eight & Bob. This is a comfortable and cozy scent–citrus, nutmeg, lavender and moss. If it leaves Egyptians scratching their heads, I can understand why. ‘Hot Toddy’ or ‘Tea and Sympathy’ would have been more apt names.

I’m testing out Le Labo’s Lys 41. It’s supposed to have a lot of sillage & longevity, but it’s almost gone on me after less than three hours. It’s certainly pretty, but white florals don’t really suit me. I suspect this will wind up in my trade pile soon.

On me it is also very pretty, but stays close to the skin and gone within 2 hours. I would have bought it if I had unlimited funds! Along with 28 La Pausa.

Wearing Robert Piguet Baghari for CP points today, to me it smells very similar to No 5 with lots of aldehydes. I am an intermittent poster these days (sniffle) as my iPad use has caused tendinitis in both shoulders besides the arthritis that’s already there. I start PT next week and I’m supposed to only use a pc with a keyboard and mouse, except that flares it up, too. Basically I need to rest both arms for a few days but how do you do that?? And how do I live without the internet? ? (yes, I am being pretty dramatic in the scheme of things. Still, phooey.)

Unpacking the last of my evacuation boxes last night, I discovered that my bottle of vintage Diorissimo had leaked and almost entirely emptied. Heartbreaking from a perfumista standpoint, but if that and my garden and the financial impacts from travel gas, hotel, etc. were my only losses from this horrific fire season, I’m still one of the lucky ones!

Struggling with the blues today, so I’m in Vaniglia for the comfort factor.

I bought the bottle in Australia a few years ago, and it was 200mls or nothing, so I got 200mls. It’s more than a lifetime supply, I haven’t made a perceptible dent in yet 🙂

    Hello, folks!

Actually did a spritz of Chanel No. 5 EdT. For some reason I’m perceiving musky or woodsy or indolic(?) notes from it right away. Other times that I’ve tried it I got a lighter floral, and I guess the aldehydes(?), as the first thing I could smell. I’ve been kind of goofed up from allergies/hayfever for a few weeks, so I guess I’m lucky I can smell anything. But I did manage to participate this week, so there’s that.

My reaction is different from Merlin’s. Rain doesn’t help with my allergies, because I think we have a lot of mold and mildew spores and whatever in the area, and we’re all allergic to that stuff. We seem to be allergic to leaf mold, too. We’ve had mushrooms coming up here and there in parts of the yard that are normally relatively dry grassy areas, but haven’t really been dry lately.

I sniffed some SSS Yin and Ylang, which has a #5 aldehyde, ylang, and sandalwood thing. It starts off awesome, but dies down to this dank, dirty butt smell I do not like. Shame, the start is fantastic. So I just sprayed on some Body shop pink pepper lychee. It’s surprisingly for long lasting, sheer rosy smell with tart fruit and peppery. I like it. Then I put on some Gaga, which I FINALLY found the violet in. Good cheap stuff.

I wore a bit of Chanel No 5 body oil again and also added some to the ends of my hair. This really seems to expand your forcefield!

Perfume is a wonderful forcefield, and No 5 makes it perfect! 🙂

I’m wearing Coty L’aimant which Francois Coty allegedly made as a rival to Chanel no 5.
I love it – such an emotionally resonant Scent for me. My favourite chemist scent apart from Lace.
