IIUVO + Madonna Madame X ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 14 October 2020 14 Comments

London-based brand IIUVO has launched Madame X, a new limited edition fragrance made in collaboration with Madonna.

Madame X has been travelling the world. Her Eau de Parfum takes you on a poetic journey. Made up of fresh and floral scents from the Mediterranean coast, mystical flavours of the Orient, all transcended by her sensuality and rebellious spirit. The manifestation of her path to light and freedom.

The notes include cinnamon, raspberry, orange blossom, rose, patchouli, musk, incense and amber.

IIUVO + Madonna Madame X is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum; 400 bottles were made. It can be purchased at the Madonna website (it is in stock in the UK at the moment for £190; listed in the US for $250 but not yet in stock), or at IIUVO for £158.33.

Wow, this is really expensive! I went to the site though, and there is a Too Faced Maddona makeup pallet, and cool t-shirts. I might get one of those for my daughter if a discount comes up for Christmas.

I liked the T shirts too, and I’m not even really a Madonna fan.

That copy is so sadly generic. Sigh.

(Also…”mystical flavours of the Orient”…double sigh.)

I wish a talented perfumer with adequate funding would do a L’Air de Rien level perfume portrait of Madonna!

I might not want to wear it, but it wouldn’t be boring.

They could have done better! Hopefully the fragrance is good. I know nothing about them.

You know, I looked them up at one point for some reason. I couldn’t find any reviews of the fragrances, but there were a lot of PR-based pieces like this one:

“…raspberry…incense” — those notes are all over the place!

I often see a list of notes and wish there were an actual fragrance that smelled like that, but not this time.

I’d guess Madonna actually wears Roja Dove. What do you think?

I can’t immediately recall where I read this but I believe she wears Fracas by Robert Piguet!

That is what I always heard, and her own commercial fragrance (Truth or Dare) was a Fracas lite.

        Ah, that’s right.

The interesting thing is that whether you love or hate Fracas, it is probably equally apt for one or the other aspect of her persona.

Madame X is also the code name of one of America’s earliest and most important spies. Based in Manhattan when that island was occupied by the Brittish, she passed information regarding ship movements, military planning and the existence of a Brittish spy among the Contental Army’s top ranks (Bendict Arnold) to a spy ring which then sent dispatches routed with dangerous boat crossings and horse backs to General Washington. (Washington invented his own formula for disappearing ink.) There are rumors that Madame X used laundry as secret semaphore flags as part of her efforts.
Although other members of the spy ring’s names have been discovered over time, Madame X’s identity was kept secret forever.

She certainly had a rebellious spirit and manifestly helped liberate the colonies. I doubt she ever made it to the orient, but she very well could have indulged in a little ambergis, and enjoyed rasberries.

Now *that* Madame X would merit quite perfume!

Meh. I find Madonna to be pretentious and humorless. It sound good to me, but too big, too expensive.
