Saturday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we're marking the occasion with our usual open thread poll. (But first, a moment of silence, please, for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died of cancer yesterday.)
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your most-pirate-ish fragrance, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I want to remind everybody that the swap meet will remain open until Tuesday…

Lol I lived in a town that had a pizza joint called Pirate’s Pizza and I came up with a joke one time when I picked up a pie. I asked the guy who handed me the pizza, “What is a pirate’s favorite pizza topping? Arrrghtichokes”. Now, I thought it was funny, however, the guy didn’t laugh much. Haha. Oh well, still great pizza nonetheless. Thick, pan pizzas made for real pirates. Lol.
Right now, I smell like Rose Jam shower gel:).
I’m a sucker for puns, and yours is great! ?
Lol thanks haha
I laughed. Good joke!
?
I thought that was pretty darn funny too! Huzzah for pirate puns! ?
Oh, that’s a pretty darn funny joke! I do love talk like a pirate day!
I would have laughed!
Totally gutted at the loss of RBG and struggling to reconnect with my to-do lists this morning. So, I baked a boysenberry coffeecake.
SOTM is 2 spritzes of Lyric (older bottle). I wish I had a back-up of this one. I have half a bottle left, and I want this one in my life always!
There was crying. What a woman.
❤️
????
?
I was also hit very hard by the news. We have lost a giant.
A teeny giant.
(I’m hearing yoda in my head “Judge me by my size do you? And well you should not.”)
YES! So appropriate, RBG was a ton of dynamite packed into a tiny body.
Yes, very sad at the loss of RBG.
And yes, Lyric is beautiful. At one time, I thought maybe it was the only perfume I needed…but I was unable to remain true to only one. I need to wear my decant.
I could easily wear Lyric for many weeks at a time. It is always beautiful!
Lyric is beautiful and it is RBG has passed away.
I had a hard time falling asleep Friday night after hearing about RBG.
Can’t believe RBG died. Her book “My Own Words” was recommended so I might dip into that.
Scent of the day is the new Gallivant scent ‘Bukhara’. A sample turned up in my mailbox and I’ve been spritzing on repeat. It’s an iris scent and I’m loving it.
Ooh, I’m really interested in that one!! Glad to hear it has a positive review.
I’ve read it. It is more about her work on the court, and I think earlier as well, and less so about her personal life. I believe she planned to write a second memoir that was more personal.I am not sure if she ever did. Or maybe it will be published posthumously. The book is great, by the way!
That’s at least two recommendations then ?
I have been to Bukhara. and Tashkent. One could travel the Silk Road when we lived in Iran.
Bukhara had turquoise blue skies and smelt of snow and wood kindling. Now I must try this scent.
RBG, what a woman, what a legacy, what a time to die on the first of Rosh Hashana.
We did have an earthquake and I did wake up this time.
SOTD- Mizunara for contemplative house cleaning.
I would love to go an visit some day – it sounds incredible the way you describe it.
I haven’t tried any of the Gallivant, but Bukhara sounds veey interesting – the perfume and the place!
I also quite like the Tokyo one, a very quiet incense.
I really like Tokyo, Berlin and Amsterdam and own a full bottle of Brooklyn.
I need to read that book.
Hi all!
I too was shocked to see the news last night. I know it isn’t out of the blue but RBG had been holding on for so long….
I’m in Sabi by Henry Dunay. Has anyone heard of this one? I found it at the estate sale I helped prep a few weeks ago and had never heard of it. It’s a aldehydic floral in the manner of White Linen with a fruitier heart and deeper base. Not bad at all, but there is so little out there as it seems to have been very small distribution.
Stay safe everyone, physically and emotionally.
She held on so long I sort of stopped believing she was going to die.
I used to think that about my own mother Robin. She held on till 95. Sometimes I am still a bit surprised she died.
YES — same with my dad, who died earlier this year at 94.
yep.
RIP Justice Ginsburg.
And now for something completely different:
What did the pirate say when he turned 80?
Aye matey.
In Eau Premiere, because the drydown is super sandalwoody on me, and I was in the mood for sandalwood on this beautiful crisp fall day.
??
Lolol
That’s a good one!
I love Eau Premiere! I bought that huge 125ml right when it came out. It is the perfect No 5 for me.
? +1
That is something I don’t wear often. Got the 75ml bottle when it came out.
Love the pirate talk ?
Lovely Sheer from a decant in my purse, because we were traveling from Nancy to Burgundy today. I just have some decants packed.
Our house is a restored barn and just lovely and quiet with a great view.
The owners cat named Noodles came over and snuggled with me.
Now some Cote du Rhone and roast chicken for dinner
I love it when the house or b&b provides a snuggle kitty!
what a great job to have!
That sounds heavenly. I hope you have an amazing vacation.
Sounds wonderful, wish I was there too!
It sounds like you’re having a great time, it’s not because I was born there but France is so diverse, there is always some new corner to discover.
Rest in Peace RBG! What a sad and terrible loss!
Winter is here! ?. 49 degrees at 6am feeling in the lower 40’s. What a freezing morning!!!! It feels on 56 right now. Debating if I should run some errands now or stay warm and cozy inside, but the temps will be the same at least for a week. I think I ‘d better bundle up and push myself to go out before the sun is gone! ??.
Wearing Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma.
Have a happy and healthy weekend, everyone! ?
It was 36 when I woke up! Better to go out when the sun is with you. ?
I have never seen a September so cold like this one! On my way out right away! ?♀️
Ugh yikes. This is where I am grateful where I am, low of only 72 but still high of 101 though lol.
Yikes! Stay warm. You smell great.
Thank you Sistine! ?
It was November when I poked my head out the door this morning. Ugh.
It was really awful this morning. I came back from outside and it is nice outside now. I put on so many layers and it was too much. I am not planning to go outside anymore this weekend!
My heat actually came on this morning! In September! I am quite offended.
These temps in late summer are insulting and abusive! I am quite upset! ?
I turned on my heat last night, since my hands and feet were cold! ?
Same here! I have been freezing the whole day! Heaters have been on since last night. I don’t want to think how rough the winter is going to be! ?
I was wearing wool socks yesterday and did the same today.
However, I heard that summer temps should make a bit of a comeback by the end of the week. Something to look forward to!
RIP RBG.
I need to remember galbanumgal’s joke for when I turn 80 because my birthday falls on Int’l Talk Like a Pirate Day.
But..for today, I was up at 6:15 am for an early Zoom call. Then we watched the penultimate stage of the Tour de France. What a great stage! Kind of a shocker. And it’s quite fun that it seems Slovenians will go 1-2 in the Tour.
Dinner outside in the chilly weather planned for early evening. I will wear Cuir de Lancôme I think.
Is it your birthday today? If so, happy birthday!!
Haha! A reason to hold out if there ever was one.
A mighty happy birthday t’ ye!
Happy birthday, LizzieB!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, LizzieB, and enjoy your day! ?
Happy Birthday, LizzyB! ?
I was so sure Primoz Roglic would win! Glad to see Richie Porte on the podium, sorry that Peter Sagan is having such a rough time.
Peter Sagan is such a character! At least there are lots of clips on Youtube of his amazing descents and funny fan interactions. For the past couple of years, he’d been our “boy” in the Spring Classics.
Yes, glad to see Richie Porte up there. And Sagan just didn’t have the legs, so congrats to Sam Bennett. The coverage today was so pretty with all the various chateaux. Sorry to see it end, but I’m sure the riders are happy to be done.
Happy Birthday ?
Happy Birthday LizzieB!
Happy Scented Birthday LizzieB! ???
Many happy returns.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Rest in Peace! I hope she will keep on watching us from above.
I’m in Puredistance White today. Have you hear that next month the brand is launching a new perfume named Rubikona (Ruby + icon) in collaboration with Cecile Zarokian? The bottle is ruby red.
I have tried all new Amouage this week but none of them spoke to me like Love Mimosa did. I’m keeping those 300 euro in my pocket… At least for now 😉 I’m starting to have itchy nose to buy something new.
Maybe Rubikona will capture your interest! Any clue as to its notes?
Maybe, but Puredistance is even more expensive. Yikes.
No idea about the notes yet.
you still haven’t bought Love Mimosa?
He did … and Undina and I got on a split with him!
Triplet power!
I might have a decant, I will check and report, tomorrow.
Did you mean Puredistance White?
I’m very keen to try the new Amouages, great to see early reports 🙂
Glad to help 🙂
Will you be posting a review anywhere? I’m very intrigued by ‘Meander’.
Yes, on my blog. But I’d like to start with Enclave as I liked it the most.
What a sad day with RBG passing. In spite of 4 bouts of cancer, she fought for gender rights and the disabled. Did my cleaning in the dry down in Memoir and my dad’s car break line is busted. I am thinking of Hendonist or Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. I want something comforting and undemanding today.
Memoir has such an incredible drydown!
It does.
Applied some Unter den Linden without really thinking. Am exhausted. Yesterday my father-in-law had a heart attack. He lives a 6 hour drive from us. Crazy as it seems, he was on his way to the hospital for a small surgery on his toe, and basically his heart attack started while he was in the parking lot. He is a doctor ,and totally understood what was happening, so got himself to the ER and through a stent procedure within an hour. He’ll be in the ICU for a bit, but all things considered, quite a lot of luck along the way. After sorting out what had happened and what needed to happen, and him safely recovering, I learned of RBG’s passing. Shared virtual cocktail hour with a couple of friends to mourn, and helped my husband pack. He left at 6:30 this morning to see his father. I finally fell back to sleep around 7:15, to be bolted awake by the phone at 7:45. It was my father-in-law—not much happening in the ICU at that hour so he thought he’d make some calls… see how I was doing! The man is in his mid-80s!!
An old pic! But I remember that day, and smiling so much. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFU_IhFBH8H/?igshid=1tfprweg9xkoj
Wow. That all sounds so exhausting! I’m glad to hear that FIL is doing well so far, and so caring that he was thinking of you at that time!
Wow – is that you and RBG? That’s so cool!
Thank goodness your father-in-law was in the right place at the right time to have a heart attack. (Wow, that sounds weird!). I hope he has a quick and easy recovery.
Glad your FIL is recovering – what a pip!
Great photo – thanks for sharing. And so glad to hear about your FIL getting himself into surgery and on the way to recovery.
Wow, Oakland, hope you are napping right now.
Very best wishes to your husband and FIL.
And what a great picture!
Amazing pic!?Overall those were positive circumstances for your FIL…glad he feels well enough for calls. 😉
Wow, glad your father-in-law is OK.
Cool picture! Glad your FIL is doing ok.
Wishing you father-in-law a speedy recovery! He was lucky to be in the right place at the right time!
Whew! Glad your FIL was already in the hospital parking lot when that happened. Nice photo of you with RBG!
Oh wow, fortunate your FIL was in the hospital parking lot! I hope he has a speedy recovery!
Wow – you met her in person!
I don’t know Unter den Linden, but love the scent of linden in general. A comforting scent for what sounds like a very intense few days.
What a wonderful photo! And what a story about your FIL, glad to know he got help so quickly and is on the mend. Re RBG: when I watched “On The Basis Of Sex” and the real RBG stepped out at the end, I totally teared up. Had not expected that, as much as I admire her. It has been so moving to see the vigils at the Supreme Court this weekend.
Glad for you your FIL was in the right place at the right time, but still.
Best wishes for his convalescence.
What a great picture. Thank you for sharing it.
Very cool photograph. You must treasure it.
Glad your FIL was where he needed to be when that happened! Speedy recovery to him!
ZOMG! What a series of events! Best wishes for your FIL’s recovery, although it sounds like he’s doing pretty good so far. And thank you for sharing that amazing picture.
SOTD is TF Noirrrrrrr Pour Femme for Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrr!
Nice! Plus, TF fits with Pirate Day.
It’s a beautiful day outside. Eeyore’s voice: “At least there’s that.”
Wearing a drop of Coromandel parfum just because, thanks to a lovely NSTer, I can 🙂
When your tail is missing, remember you have every right to mope.
I had the most frustrating day yesterday – we started driving up to Raleigh (a 4 hour drive) for our closing appointment. About 90 miles into the drive we got a call from our realtor. Apparently someone at the mortgage company forgot to sign a form, so we cannot close until Monday.
So now we’re in our old, empty house in limbo. Our stuff is all in a moving truck. Thank goodness they can keep it on the truck until Wednesday!
This is not a real problem, just an inconvenience. But it’s still really annoying.
Today I’m wearing Philosykos. It cooled down by 30 degrees and I really wanted to wear Bottega Venetta, but it’s on the moving truck. I had to buy a sweatshirt because I packed all our sweaters and sweatshirts in boxes, not thinking it would get chilly.
I hope everyone has the kind of day they need, whether exciting or utterly peaceful.
Oh what a pain, sistine!! So sorry.
That is annoying. Hope the day and weekend improves.
How frustrating!
So sorry for that inconvenience! I am sitting in my condo climbing the walls waiting for moving day to come on Oct. 14. It is excruciating.
Oh no! We had something similar happen when we bought our current house. There was a delay (due to a long weekend) which wasn’t factored in for filing the paperwork with land titles. Luckily we had some camping gear that we could grab for sleeping the extra night in our empty townhouse!
We are going to be spending our last night with our camping gear as well!
Oh boo is right! Sorry to hear that happened. Here’s to Monday and that all goes smoothly!
Along with the sad news, I also have some good news – the Seattle air quality has finally improved and I just finished a 4 mile walk. May it improve all along the west soon.
I need a rum fragrance for Talk Like a Pirate Day, but I’m wearing a spritz of SL 5 o’clock Au Gingembre. Maybe my pirates dealt in spices.
*Meaning the sad news about RBG.
Congratulations on the walk!
Portland’s air is feeling pretty good and normal, too.
Yay for walks! I’ll head out for mine in a bit.
Oh good, so glad to hear the air is clearing.
I’m glad to hear that the air is improving in your area. The last few weeks must have terrible.
maybe I should have a daiquiri with rum for pirate’s day lol.
I have a whole new appreciation for clean air after this period of very unhealthy and hazardous air. I took a walk today too, and it felt amazing. Been reveling in the open windows all day even though it’s been quite cool.
Isn’t it great to get out and walk? I really have taken advantage of the good air quality, makes me appreciate the beauty we have out here in SF.
? about the air!
I like your idea about wearing a rum fragrance for pirate day! Haha, ‘wearing a pirate inspired fragrance’ should be a Friday CP
Hurray for a bit of good news!
I join the rest of you in ? for our beloved RBG and her family. Legions of extended family.
Does anyone know a potent orange blossom perfume? I just started using Beekman Honey and Orange Blossom lotion and I love it. The smell is strong at first, then hides in 5 minutes. I find no honey, just straight up orange blossom.
Thanks!
Wearing Patagonia, a beautiful citrus unlike any other. One of my absolute favorites.
When I think orange blossom, I think Armani Code (for her), which I hate. So, not a recommendation, but it’s the fragrance I learned to discern orange blossom as a note and decided it’s not for me unless it’s very much in the background.
More perfumista-approved is Azemour des Orangers, which I also dislike, but gets lots of love.
Thank you. I liked the original Code.
Never even heard of Azemour. I appreciate your suggestions.
And honesty.?
Honesty/earnestness is definitely “on brand” for me. ☺️ Not sure it’s always a good thing, but I mean it with good intentions!
I hate Code for her too but love orange blossom lol
I find that reassuring!
JV Artisan.
Oh, and look:

https://nstperfume.com/2018/03/26/5-perfumes-orange-blossom/
https://nstperfume.com/tag/orange-blossom/
O wow!!!!!
Thank you!!!!
Thank you.
Ummm. JV?
Sorry, John Varvatos. It is for men but I think wears unisex.
Hiram Green Dilettante instatly comes to my mind.
Mad love for this one.
Yep, this is the epitome of a potent orange blossom to me. It’s one of my absolute loves.
There’s also the Sylvaine Delacourte Orange Blossom collection. The one I personally like from that collection is Oranzo.
LÁrtisan Mon Numero 8. Katie Puckrik has a nice review of this one on her blog.
By Kilian Sweet Redemption is a killer orange blossom, in my opinion (I don’t like this note as a leading one in perfumes 🙂 ).
Someone has already mentioned Sylvaine Delacourte‘s Orange Blossom set. I have tried 3 out of 5 so far, but I must say that from the testing prospective it makes a lot of sense: it’s not expensive even if you end up not liking any, and there is a good chance you’ll like at least one.
Wholeheartedly second Sweet Redemption!
I did a bit of tidying yesterday, and found two little sprayers of perfumes I made at a day-long perfume class I took years ago – back in 2014, so it was longer ago than I realised. I tried them, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I still liked them. The perfumery where I did the class is still there, and will make up bottles from my formulae (pleased I was able to find those!), so I’ll email them in the next couple of days.
The two perfumes are very similar, both variations on rose and incense, and vaguely reminiscent of Serge Lutens’ Rose de Nuit – very vaguely, I have to say 🙂
Meanwhile, it’s a beautiful sunny morning here, and that calls for Annick Goutal’s Chèvrefeuille.
Oh +1 for AG Chèvrefeuille which I wore more often than anything else this summer.
Goodness, 2020 keeps on taking, doesn’t it. RIP RGB.
And the drift smoke is back… we had a few days of clear air, so nice! I got out for a couple of walks. But we are back to the stinky again.
Talk like a pirate day, huh. Some time ago I worked for a company whose idiot CEO was really, really into talk-like-a-pirate-day. Really. I did say idiot, didn’t I?
More fun news: in the wee hours we heard a noise on our back deck. Flipped on the lights, and saw 3 foxes! One was on the deck railing… one on the spa cover… and one was standing in the bird bath. Snort.
Testing Centauri scents at the moment.
I’m sorry, I can’t hear anything about foxes without thinking of Steve Martin and SNL.
Foxezzz! ?
I hope your air improves soon, and stays that way!
?
Sad and somehow shocked at the death of RBG. What a force for good. May she rest in peace.
I started out in Chypre Mousse for the walk this morning, and I’m really kind of stumped about this perfume. I get the mint and some greenish stuff right off the bat, but the dry down is more like damp stone. I licked wet rocks as a kid (weird, I know), and it made me think of that. It’s very interesting, and smells different on my left arm than my right. It’s earthy, too, in the dry down. One of the strangest fragrances I’ve ever tried. Portia reviewed an Oriza a couple of days ago over on the Posse, so I checked my sample stash and found a few things to try from the house.
I hope everyone has a good weekend. ?
You do smell nice !
Thanks! You smell great in Side Effect. I drained a blind decant of that recently. Wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, but it grew on me.
Curious to hear what other Orizas you have in your stash!
Only two, both samples: Deja le Printemps and Vetiver Royal Bourbon.
I was distracted by Dzing! today, so we’ll see what the mood is tomorrow. ?
RIP RBG. Jews believe that on Rosh Hashana (Jewish new year, which started last night) it is written in the Book of Life who will live and who will die in the coming year. RBG’s death was decreed last Rosh Hashana, but being such a deserving and righteous person, she was given the full 365 days of the year. May her memory be a blessing.
I’m wearing Atélier des Ors Larmes du Désert.
May it, indeed.
Oh I love that one, you smell intoxicating.
Thank you for that explanation! I had read that one who dies on Rosh Hashanah is a person of special qualities but I didn’t know why. I have a sample somewhere of Larmes du Desert, I must pull it out. I loved Atelier des Ors’ White Collection.
Echoing Old Herbaceous in thanking you for the explanation. Judaism has such rich symbolism.
Thank you. I’ll join you in the “May her memory be a blessing” phrase. She will be remembered for a long time for her legal work for women’s rights and her service as a judge.
Thank you cazaubon.
Thanks for the enlightening post cazaubon.
I understand everyone is grieving RBG and have been reading and listening to various tributes to her all day. Unfortunately, I have my own day of mourning here too because today is the 10 year anniversary of my father’s death. He had a sudden stroke and, luckily, my mother was able to be there with him as he passed. I was unable to go that day and had to take a flight up there the next day, which was an utterly surreal experience. I was lucky to have a loving childhood with wonderful parents but was probably a difficult kid (withdrawn and brainy) and I feel guilty that I never quite appreciated him enough while he was still alive. I’m dwelling on it today and trying to feel grateful for the many ways in which he inspired me. He was an incredibly affable man who loved meeting new people, and a terrific observer of nature who made many fantastic videos of birds and sunsets and so on. I wasn’t sure of what to wear but in browsing among bottles turned up Hermes Caleche. It’s OK but honestly a bit too sweet and blah for me. Might switch it out later.
Calypso, sending a big hug your way. Your dad sounds like he was terrific. Affability is, in my opinion, hugely underrated.
No guilt, dear. He was your dad, and he understood these things — that you loved him, and that you would continue to realize just how much as you grew up and went on in your own life. He was a keen observer of nature, after all.
Agree with that. It is part of being a parent…and you should not feel guilty at all.
I’m sorry you have a heavy heart today Calypso.
Sending comforting hugs, Calypso. ?
Hugs Calypso. There are things that I wish I had been able to tell my dad before he passed away suddenly.
Sending you a hug, Calypso.
So sorry about the difficult anniversary Calypso. ((HUGS)) to you.
We never stop missing our parents, hugs.
Sending you hugs in memory of your father. He knew you loved him.
It seems like every day brings news that just ratchets life down a little bit lower. I’d like to wake up now, please, and find myself in an entirely different country.
Sorry. Just having a moment of genuine weariness.
On the good news front, I’ve just received a package of smellies from Smell Bent, so I’ll be cheering myself up with some new scents! Right now, I’m wearing Luna, which is quite delicious.
Sending consoling thoughts your way — the next several weeks will be wearying at best.
Some days it is just hard to stay optimistic, isn’t it?
Beverage of the day, Hazy Little Thing, IPA, which is basically like spruce beer lol. Lots of pine for sure. Sotd Chanel Deauville from a decant. Love this one..but I rarely dislike a Chanel..unless it’s Misia. Misia later haha.
Lol! good one.
?
My sister and her family hosted a birthday get together in the park with my family and we celebrated everyone’s birthday from March through September. We had Pizza and Cupcakes. It was a little chilly, I wore my midweight coat, lol. Sotd was Vanilla Flash.
I got to chase the grand niece around , it was a nice day?
What a great idea! Glad you had a nice day today!
Happy to hear you had a great time! Happy Birthday to everyone! ??
Sounds like you had a great time. Happy Birthday to everyone!
Happy Birthday Conga Line to everyone in your family!
excellent! I love an outdoor party. Add birthday cupcakes and I’m in heaven.
Also, you smell delicious! 🙂
Such a creative idea, a collective birthday party. Glad you had a great time, Lillyjo.
What a nice idea!
SOTD = Initio Side Effect
I smelled of rum at the beginning of this spicy, boozy, tobacco vanilla (She-Ra, not vanilla forward). Methinks I can double the dose and not weave when I walk ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CFVo3RyhyKw/?igshid=6xgqsuljbk5e
In other news, I switched out my modem yesterday and OMG, I did one of the steps halfway and was literally stuck between my old router name and the new wireless password. To make a long story short, there was drama with the technician. Cutting to the chase, we ended up yelling at each other because he refused to admit he was rude and kept saying he was the tech and I must listen to him. Unfortunately, finding out which technician it was is next to impossible but I hope he seeks help. I had a brilliant idea which ended up being the right thing to do. Anyway, I did part two earlier today which was to install the booster. When I work again on Tuesday, I’ll find out if the new modem plus the wireless booster actually improve my internet speed!
“I hope he seeks help” LOL ?
I hope that conversation was recorded and his supervisor either fires him or rips open a new one.
Re: your question yesterday if I had DSL or not… well, I’m not sure. I will have to ask Mr. Jalapeno about that.
but what if I want to weave when I walk? 😉
In all seriousness, TF Tobacco Vanille is a new favorite of mine, now wondering if Side Effect is anywhere in that neighborhood?
How adding a bob to that weave? Now, that would be a sight for sore eyes ?.
From my recollection, TF Tobacco Vanille and Side Effect are not quite similar but I will have a smell off at some point and report back.
Bob and weave, sounds like a good idea to me. ??
Will be happy to learn how you find the comparison! ?
wouldn’t it be fun to pair up perfumes then compare and share impressions? ☺️
SotD = Jardins de Bagatelle, from a long ago NST swapmeet
So beautiful! It’s been too long since I spent time with JdB. It always makes me breathe deep, and then I feel much better. I love big white flowers and I can not lie.
Tonight I’ll Tam Dao myself into a state of calm.
I adore this video of Sia’s Together:
https://youtu.be/vnfGni4_RlI
Wishing everyone a weekend of wellness, music, and a smile or two. 🙂
You smell beautiful, JdB is a lovely bouquet of flowers, and such a romantic name. I remember as a teen when it first came out, I got a bottle immediately.
thank you, Aurora! ? Big bouquets make me happy, especially in perfume.
I need a double vat of Tam Dao 😉
I’m picturing a bathtub full of Tam Dao. ?
I’ve only bought one new FB this year. If I could justify another it is very likely to be Tam Dao.
Or the soap, which is lovely!
I am quite impressed with your will power regarding new bottle purchases this year! Can I borrow some of it?
Another nippy fall day. I think this calls for Musc Ravageur.
Nom.
No SOTM, as I haven’t gone on my run, yet. It will be my first run since the fires and I’m sure it will be tough. Lifted with my trainer yesterday and all my lifts were down. Sitting around, sequestered in my house avoiding smoke was not good on my general health and conditioning, it would seem! Glad I get to get back to it all, though!
No other exciting plans for the day. Need to prepare for the work week. School is *finally* starting here, so I want my meals prepped and ready. Other boring stuff like laundry, too.
Just about finished the new Hunger Games audiobook, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes–makes me want to go back to the trilogy. Might be good “comfort listening.”
I am reading that book right now! Have the hard copy but won’t finish it before it is due, so then will have to wait for my hold to come up on the ebook.
Hope the run went well!
I was devastated by the RBG news and went to a socially distanced outdoor Rosh Hashanah dinner. I put on Theorema. I am quickly running out. Any suggestions for substitutes?
Shalimar might be a good substitute. I know STC has decants.
Thanks, Dawn!
Shana tova Jks!
You, too, Cazaubon.
It’s Sunday morning and I’m sampling Eight and Bob Cap d’Antibes. It’s fairly masculine but not brutish about it, and it is definitely evocative of summers by the sea. It’s my favorite of the discovery set so far. Our air quality is back to fresh and clean, so once it warms up a bit more I’m going to throw open as many windows as I can.
Yay for fresh and clean!
Today is my last day off before I go back to work tomorrow. Wearing Shalimar Ode a la Vanille right now but going to switch to Feminite du Bois after my shower.
Sorry you have to go back, Dawn! Enjoy your last evening.
Scent so far today is AVO Juice Jasmine lotion that I put on late last night/early this morning. I’m not sure if I’ll have an opportunity to put on an afternoon fragrance. I haven’t had much news to report that way lately. I’m still enjoying the assorted Bigelow lemon-scented products I got a few weeks ago and the other day. 🙂 Also I tried the sample of licorice-flavored toothpaste, and, surprisingly, thought it was okay. lol
I want to use my various culinary herbs before we get a frost, so I’m looking at recipes. I made it to my favorite Indian grocery the other day and got fresh laddu and some lovely vegetables. I’ve been enjoying eating the laddu and found a simple recipe for eggplant with diced tomatoes that I did the next day.
I had to look up laddu – looks yummy. I’m in love with most Indian food.
Have you ever tried growing herbs indoors?
Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes. It was a lazy day with a very pleasant dinner. Spinach salad with beets, goat cheese and hazelnuts, rack of lamb and ricotta cheesecake for dessert. And two glasses of Pinot Noir. Very satisfying.
Shalimar Eau de Cologne today. It has become a favorite.
It’s a gorgeous day out, but we are still trying to respect quarantine rules in normal course.
That dinner sounds delicious. Ricotta is my favorite type of cheesecake – I like the grainy texture (as opposed to the somewhat gummy nature of other types). If you are a beet fan, this French “Peasant” Beets recipe is da bomb:

Belated Happy Birthday, LizzieB!
You smell fabulous! Very glad your birthday was happy. ?? I agree with Lisa D, ricotta cheesecake is the best. ?
Glad you had a nice birthday! That meal sounds lovely.
Your birthday sounds like it was wonderful!
Rest In Power, RBG. Her passing is the only thing that has made me actually turn on the news and pick up the newspaper, therefore breaking with my resolution to avoid the news this whole past crummy yucky year. What a fandom she had, and still has. The woman was a ROCK STAR. And I just love the fact that she was a huge opera fan and would have been an opera singer if circumstances were different. At least she got to play on stage with some well-knowns later in life. I feel like that was her outlet to counterbalance a highly cerebral career.
SOTD Tocca Gia, again. I had one last sample that I snagged at Anthropologie and decided to use it up, why not, it’s nice stuff.
Yesterday was a bit of an adventure for me and Mr. Jalapeno. Some of you may remember the wedding planning and drama that I was relating up through/until July.
Well, the couple at the center of things decided to have 2 ceremonies: one, a small civil union, and the second would be the grand soiree next November. They had some compelling reasons for wanting to be legally married ASAP (insurance and health issues among them). I was one of the witnesses at the small civil union yesterday.
It was a beautiful day for a very small, socially distanced and masked wedding outdoors in a lovely park. I had a bit of fun telling the bride and groom that they were married on Talk Like A Pirate Day. The looks on their faces were priceless! And there were a few bad Pirate jokes and pun immediately after that.
And there was perfume involved with this wedding. I wore Samsara EdP. And for the “something borrowed” I had brought along 4 perfume samples for the bride to sniff. She was going to wear the one that she liked the best. The winning sample turned out to be Dame Perfumes Rose, Cassis and Sandalwood EdT. It smelled lovely on her. Best of all, today the bride asked me what her wedding perfume was, and how to get hold of it.
SOTD for a quiet Sunday spent chilling out = Deep Red again. Someone here recently mentioned that fall is a good time for sandalwood perfumes. Gotta say, I totally agree with that.
Yay! I’m glad they got married!
When I was at the park yesterday, there was a wedding reception going on further down from us.
You smell great! I used to wear Deep Red, it’s gorgeous.
Thanks lillyjo!
The wedding sounds lovely, and yay for perfume success with the bride!
I was absurdly pleased with the perfume success! (Insert evil perfumista laugh)
Glad they got married finally, without incident.
Did everyone else involved ever make up?
I only know part of the story, but no, not everyone has reconciled. The groom and his best friend have made up. However, some other friendships were too badly damaged.
What a shame. So not worth the destruction of relationships.
Glad at least one friendship was saved.
Nippy again this morning, frost on the pumpkin. Wearing LADDM.
