Monday, Peach Pie Day (yes please), National Waffle Day, International Strange Music Day and Pluto Demoted Day. Literary birthdays: Max Beerbohm, Jean Rhys, Jorge Luis Borges, A.S. Byatt, Paulo Coelho de Souza, Oscar Hijuelos. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the lovely Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola.
Reminder: 8/28 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 4...propose a theme for a Friday community project, and wear a fragrance that fits your theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Ciao a tutti!
My dealers choice is perfumes or perfume houses that start with H. I don’t think I can do a full week of this but starting out with Hermetica.
I am in Sandalsun this morning..Vanilla Sandlwood Hazelnut. Pairing it with a fitted versace-esqe dress, lots of leopard print and swirly details so I am starting out my Monday on a very sensual note.
This week I finished this book called Swimming in the Dark by a Polish author Tomasz Jedrowski, a nice fiction book that talks about two lovers on opposite sides of the political divide as the fall of communism is happening in Poland during the 80’s. A good, fast read.
good morning L2SG, That book sounds like an enjoyable read! Your outfit sounds lovely!
Thank you ST!
I don’t know much about this perfume house but it seems that it markets itself as a “clean” perfume company. This one I am sampling is very nice and has no alcohol.
We shall see..
Stylin’! ?
trying to keep it up, its a mood lifter
Just finished Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, non-fiction, a memoir about a therapist, her clients, and her therapist. Also an engaging, fast read.
Added this to my list!
Also adding this to my list, Lisa D. Thanks!
Adding to my ‘read’ list! Currently reading A Good Man With A Dog, A Retired Game Warden’s 25 Years in The Maine Woods – it’s really interesting and engaging!
Next books in the queue are The Lost Girls Of Paris by Pam Jenoff, and The Indigo Girl, by Natasha Boyd.
Just like my perfume ‘must try’ lists, my ‘must read’ list grows by the day. 🙂
Fast reads always get added to my list. Thank you dear!
Happy Monday! Feeling optimistic today because I’m taking all of next week off! But also feeling gross because ragweed allergies ruined my morning walk.
SOTD is Deauville, which could fit the theme of impulse buys for me.
An excellent theme, which a couple of other people might join you in doing…
Oh – nice theme, could probably fill weeks and weeks of sotd with that theme ?
Yes to this theme!
And you smell grand AND the opposite of impulse.
Sotd is Le Cri
Back to work, meaning, back to lots of video calls and dozens of unread e-mails.
After 4 hours I felt like this ?
So..i just checked many leave hours i still have left ? and to my surprise, it was not bad. Maybe i will plan a short autumn break soon ??
I need to think about the CP…i think its a fun idea!
I’m so glad I haven’t had to do any zoom meetings since the pandemic. I would be completely useless.
I work with several bright, young women who have stretched my tech to nearly the breaking point. I am in constant communication on Slack and WhatsApp and meetings are scheduled either on Zoom or Skype, we collaboratively on shared documents on the Google Drive, and when I miss a beat (possibly because I am combing through emails) someone always helpfully texts me to let me know. 😳
You smell very nice in Le Cri
What a nice surprise (that you have more leave than you thought).
Morning all, my SOTD is L’ Artisan’s Patchouli Patch with a spritz of their original Vanille (Sandalwood, vanilla, and Ylang Ylang).
Headed out for my four-mile walk. I have a three-hour Zoom meeting today. 😯
Wish me luck I can stay awake for the entire meeting.
Omg- three hours! ?
Actually, I misread, the meeting is 5 hours (9am-2pm).
Just. Shoot. Me. Now.
On the other hand, I’m hearing Zoom is having massive service interruption issues….
Which internet god do I pray to for an intervention!! ??
5. whole. hours. ?! ?
Yep, not a typo. ?
5 hours…
Whaaaaaaaat?
Thats a crime. ???
Skype-goddess!
3 hours nooooooooo ?????
wow..do you want some of my French press coffee for your meeting?
Yes please! And thanks for sharing! 😀 I finally got off to dreamland at 1:30am. I need to get a handle on regular bedtime hours!
How are things in the Bay Area
Very smokey, fortunately, the marine layer rolled in today and temps are cooler. The Air quality is rated as Unhealthy for sensitive groups. My car has ash all over it. I had difficulty breathing on my walk this morning…
I was wondering… With a five (or even a 3) Hour meeting, do they make official breaks for everyone to go to the bathroom or get some water, or is everyone doing it whenever they please? Is it a video conference or just with a sound?
I hope you survived in any case 🙂
So, my personal philosophy on this, and it’s for in-person meetings as well, is I just get up and take care of my own needs. Most meetings do not take a break frequently enough for me to be at ease, and it was tripley true before my hysterectomy. I feel no need to apologize or otherwise draw attention to it, and I just do what I need to do. Maybe it means I get a reputation for getting up a lot, but I can’t imagine anyone cares all that much. Certainly, it’s never been brought up to me as a problem.
Thankfully, it’s sound w/o video.
I handle it as Marjorie Rose does, I discreetly take breaks, get water. I’m more focused if I do. I was a hyperactive kid who couldn’t sit still, at 53, I haven’t changed much.
The morning wasn’t too bad. I’m hoping they cut it short (fingers crossed).
I’ve had a number of 5+-hour Zoom meetings or trainings, and they’ve all had built-in breaks every hour or two. But also, I have the meetings going both on my computer and my phone, so since we always have audio-only meetings, I can wander around as I need to, carrying my phone with me to listen/look at slides.
Get that profile pic prepped, so’s you can turn off your video every now and again. Otherwise, it’s just too exhausting to try and maintain a “face” for that long….
I replaced my staid office pic with an animated shot of me looking very engaged and interested. 😎
Way to work it! I’m going to do that, and maybe replace my pic with one that doesn’t look like Resting Disgruntled Face.
I love that, “Maintain a Face”.
What I need is one of those ‘Morning Masks’, like Mrs. Jetson had. Just apply and hair is perfectly flipped and just the right amount of smile!
That makes me zzzz just to think about it. I have to attend a couple a month and 3 hour is my limit for not wanting to shoot myself!
I hope you could at least switch the camera off and go for a cup of tea from time to time.
Oh wow. Just wow.
A 5-hour Zoom meeting? No. No no no no no.
SOTD is CdG Kyoto because I’m on a Godzilla kick, which I know has nothing to do with Kyoto. Tokyo is in the same country, so I think that’s an understandable leap!
Remembering neighbors I used play with when I was kid who had every conceivable dinosaur/monster toy ever created. Going over to their house was better than going to Toys R Us. Plus, they had three Great Danes that went on the most thrilling adventures with me, and were such a nice change from our dachshunds. I mean, these were PROPER dogs! Or ponies, depending on your perspective. I’d get monstered out pretty quick, and then hang with the four leggeds in the dog run, galloping around on all fours pretending to be a wild mustang. No wonder my parents gave up on me…
Amazing to think the King of Monsters is 70 years old!
That is quite a difference size wise between a Dackel and a Great Dane. GD’s are quite gentle I guess.
Did you ever horse ride as a child?
The neighbor used to breed and show GD in AKC Conformation. Those dogs were so amazingly tolerant of me. Really, just rock solid temperament. I don’t have any experience with GD other than that. When I got into dog sport as an adult, it was mainly obedience competition, not conformation, and I had a Rottweiler I started in Schutzhund, but was unable to continue with because I moved back to Florida. So, no GD really in either of those sports that I remember. When I was 8, I used to hang around a 14 year old boy in our neighborhood for the express purpose of being able to pet and play with his Alaskan Malamute. He was horribly mean to me, not surprisingly, but it seemed a worthwhile endeavor at the time.
I did ride a fair bit when I was younger and took lessons off and on in English style riding/jumping (as opposed to what we here in the US call “western”
Style). I probably should have been a vet. But then I’d have to deal with neglectful, abusive owners and what little filter I have would crumble. I’d have to post on NST from jail. ?
It’s one of the reasons I chose medicine in stead of veterinary medicine. Also I can cope a whole lot better with people suffering than with animals having a bad time.
I would happily join you in jail ?
Great Danes are fantastic dogs! Such gentle giants, I wish they lived longer….
Growing up, we had rough-coated collies and beagles (horse country). As an adult, we had three miniature Dachshunds, Stretch, Slinky, and Jake. I swear those dogs were Rottweilers in a 13lb Doxie’s body!
Where in Florida did you live? I’m a New York transplant to Sarasota (for 20 years, now residing in SF), I have family in Sarasota, Palm Beach, and Naples.
Dachshunds are very underestimated, except by themselves. Mine kept an 80 kilo Leonberger off his own turf for 2 weeks. Without ever getting close to him. Her imposing 8 kg presence was enough.
I’m convinced that our neighbor’s miniature Doxie would kill and bury us if he could. He’s generally a lap dog and goes out to a tie up when said neighbors want to sit outside. That dog has a whole vocabulary of vituperative invective going steady the whole time he’s outside.
I was just up the road in St. Petersburg! We moved there from Illinois the year after the Sunshine Skyway collapsed. The first time I rode over that bridge, I thought for sure I was going to die. ?
The bridge accident happened on my birthday. I have never, ever driven over it again.
Yes, St. Pete is pretty close to me! I loved visiting the Aquarium, Dali, and FL International Museum (now closed) when I’m there.
I remember the Sunshine Skyway bridge collapsing, it took me years to get the courage to drive over that bridge!
I make sure to visit the Columbia Cuban Restaurant when we’re there.
Yes, I’ve been to that restaurant. There was a great bar on the top where I experienced my first 3 Long Island iced teas. It didn’t go well for me. ? However, there were plans to demolish the pier even before I started traveling three years ago. I saw that it had been completely redone when I was there last month. I don’t think you can even drive on the pier anymore- pedestrian traffic only, and the iconic inverted pyramid is completely gone.
Hey, as long as there’s a connection in your mind, that’s all that matters lol! Smelling great.
Monday! ?. Wearing CdG Kyoto for its relaxing vibe.
A tough family situation to face this week. Hope everything gets resolved fine.
I knew I was wrongly hoping that the hot and humid days of summer were gone. But….. they are back!!!!! We will be in the 90’s tomorrow and the rest of the week in the upper 80’s. I am not complaining, considering that fall is just around the corner and other people are going thru tougher times with natural disasters.
Wishing everyone a safe and healthy Monday. ?
Twins!
I think there are now only two seasons: summer and winter. RIP fall and spring!!
Good luck with your family situation. ??
I am hoping for fall weather. Its my favorite season…and I have already starting to buy my fall clothing! HA!
Have you thought about a daily outfit/perfume post on Instagram or some other platform? That would be so fun! I’d do it myself except I have NO style and resemble Miriam Margolyes ?
Not the worst possible resemblance either. She is hilarious.
Agree w Austenfan that MM is hilarious and irreverent and would be great fun for a night at the pub—but you are beautiful and in no way physically resemble her. I am the final word on these things.
Aw thanks Deva, but I don’t think I have the look to be looked at daily. My followers would probably unfollow me, what little I have!
Oh, she’s hilarious! Love pretty much everything she’s done. She’s tiny, 5’1″
I hope your situation will resolve the best possible way.
Thank you, Undina. Hoping for the best.
Best wishes for your family situation.
Thank you, Cazaubon. Praying for it!
Thank you, Deva.
We smell great!
It is 90 now, feeling like 95. It is gross outside. Last year the leaves changed colors later than usual and warm temps stuck around well into late fall. I think we will see the same this year. I agree with you that we will end up with only two seasons.
I’m hoping the family situation calms down and you have some peace. Stressful times…. ((hugs to you P67))
Thank you ST! ?. This year has been very though for us. Looking forward to better times!
The closest I can come to describing 2020 is the look on this little boy’s face (at 7 seconds into the video) when he eats a spoonful of unsweetened Dutch Cocoa powder.
That. Look. 😯
https://youtu.be/pZUXanzE5tM
Oh my! His face! You are absolutely right!
SmokeyToes, thank you so much for posting that link! I haven’t laughed like that in ages.
Sending you support for the family situation. These are tough times indeed.
Thank you, Okland Fresca! Tough times indeed, especially when it is health related. I hope next year things look better.
Thinking of you and your family – family situations can have so many layers. Wishing you a peaceful resolution (if that’s appropriate).
Thank you, Sistine ?.
I hope that your family situation resolves for the best. Hugs!
Thank you, Jalapeno!
Sending good vibes your way for that tough family situation.
Thank you, KellyC!
Good morning nsters. I took a vacation day to just be in a different headspace and get a few things done.
First appointment new tires, a flu shot later, contactless pick up of some sleepy from lush.
Yesterday I got my stationary bike out of garage and set up.
Whew, it took all of 10 minutes.
Weather, sky, ash all looking pretty grim out but am lucky still not close to any fires.
I think a week of Chanel or GdG?
Please stay safe those in Bay Area.
I’ve never seen fires so close to San Jose.
Gosh, I feel for those fire fighters. I wish there was something I could do or some way I could contribute to make them more comfortable, or I don’t know, just anything! I just saw some footage yesterday of two fire fighters that were airlifted out of a very dangerous situation, and they were just unflappable. ?
They are amazing heroes, every one. And like teachers and nurses, grossly underpaid.
Yes, seeing footage of the fire tornadoes and walls of fire, those firefighters are heroes. I’m not religious, but I pray daily for them and the home owners.
One friend of mine she lost her house, located in Boulder Creek. She and her four kids & hubby just moved there a month ago. They escaped with their lives but the entire house and everything in it is gone.
I also took a day off to try and do stuff. Now I need to try to get out of bed… Then we’ll see how it goes 🙂
The air around my house feels better because at least it is cooler. We are no where near the fires, but golly I am heartily sick of the scent of smoke. Read a story yesterday that one firefighter’s car got burgled while he was fighting a fire–the person drained the firefighter’s bank account. In addition to the Santa Cruz mountains, I’ve had my eye on the Pt. Reyes fire. Yesterday it was 5 percent contained. . .
I have a lot of friends from when I lived in Walnut Creek who are telling me the air is better today. fingers crossed.
You had a busy day. Stay safe!
I will have a think about the community project, after 2 hour zoom meeting/supervision group I feel like my brain has definitely taken a break.
On a positive note I will begin seeing my counselling clients online soon, and was successful in an interview last week for a counselling placement within a primary school., fingers crossed I’ll be able to start this year.
SOTD is Volutes EDT, perfect for a rainy grey day at home curled up with a book and cup of tea (Oolong orange blossom).
You smell great!
Congratulations on your new placement!
Fingers crossed for you!
Congratulations!
While fishing for unicorns last week I pulled a few scents that have been languishing, un-sprayed for too long. Today I am in Epice Marine a kissing cousin to Un Jardin apres la Mousson.
I liked that one, although I liked the story of how the scent came about even better.
Commando right now. I’ve been less motivated to wear perfume for the past few days because of the fires nearby and the smoke thickening our air. Actually I think it’s affecting my ability to smell. I wore l’Eau de Tarocco again yesterday and it smelled like a very wan, astringent citrus that faded in an hour. Then I used some rose-scented face wash and it smelled like goopy soap. So I may give my nose a break until the air clears up, or maybe I’ll go the other way and pull out something nuclear later today. (Maybe I should almost literally fight fire with fire and pull out my smokiest scents?…but maybe not.)
similar sentiments here, Koyel – I was scent free because I felt I didn’t want to add more to the nasal stress load, if that makes sense. But today I spritzed, even though it looks like a particularly bleak day, smoke wise.
Oh so sorry you all!
It really is bleak. My poor HVAC/air purifier have been running almost nonstop for days and it’s still not quite enough.
I’m with you! Despite all the air cleaning actions, I can feel the effect of the smoke and bad air on my nose and throat, and I’m afraid to aggravate it by using perfumes 🙁
Same! Well, I screwed my own throat up a little by going outside for 10 min earlier today (my poor plants need a LITTLE bit of love). I’m thinking of giving my wrists a bit of roll-on action.
I’ve gone the nuclear route because loss of smell/smelling a smoky scent is one of the common COVID symptoms. I like the reassurance that I can still smell fruits and flowers.
Ahhhh I forgot about that part. Good point!
Ok I got stressed out and gave myself a little roll of Rose Flash. It smells…weird. Sour and cigarette-y. My nose is definitely screwed up.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear that! Stay safe when loving your plants.
Thank you, sistine <3 It was dumb and I should've worn my smoke mask when going out. I'll be smarter going forward!
So sorry Koyel!
Maybe take a bit of a break from perfume to give your poor sniffer a break? And yes to a mask outside!
Hang in there, Koyel! Hugs!
Dealers Choice for the week is Stressbusters. I’m in Shalimar parfum, from a small sample. Really, I just want to sit quietly in this beautiful scent bubble and sniff my wrists. ❤️
Can I join you in your bubble?
Absolutely, and bring friends! ?
I like your theme 🙂
Thanks! I may scan your blog for inspiration. ?
I love those stress buster scents…
Me too. I’m being a bit selfish with my cp idea, as I really need comfort scents this week. ?
Shalimar is big, but it has a soothing and meditative quality too. You smell beautiful.
Yes, the dry down is so glorious and soothing.
I love your theme! I will keep a close eye on your perfumes this week. I need some stress busters scents in my life!
I have a list, and hope they help you, my hard working friend!
I like that theme too.
?
Self care with stress-busting scents is good for you, and not selfish at all!
Can’t wait to see what you wear all week!
Too little brain capacity left to think of a CP. I had intended to wear Trayee, but have ended up in Grand Amour, don’t ask me to explain.
On the move front. Boxes have arrived, quote has arrived. Things are taking shape.
The weather is glorious today. Sunny and windy and around 22 Cº.
Glad things are going your way. Brain capacity will surely re-expand to it’s former enviable size as you carry on!
Thanks, I’m sure it will. ? Mind you I’ll need every single brain cell I have for my next job. No falling back on old reflexes, or getting away with not really using my brain at all. That is an exaggeration but medically my last job was quite simple. Even though it could be very tiring.
What are your plans, I think you will start travelling soon? Heading west? I have been delighted to see that T-Rex is back to being her usual bouncy self. It’s great when your pet is thriving again, esp. if they have not been doing so for a while.
Thank you! Really, I’m so happy she’s feeling better, even though that includes waking me at the crack of dawn with the tap-tap-tap on my head, throwing the ball in my lap a thousand times a day, and trying to herd me into the kitchen all the time!
When you’re brain is just a conveyor belt for known information, it’s the worst. Totally mind numbing and exhausting to keep spitting out the same thing every day, without any kind of creativity or challenge. I hope your upcoming work is intellectually stimulating without being draining. Do you have close friends/family where you’re living now? If so, I would imagine that’s making it a bit harder to move… or moving may be liberating..?!
You’re hitting the nail on the head. I was getting so bored. The new job will be completely different and I guess very challenging, but that is all to the good. It will be a new kind of tiredness.
I have some really good friends where I live now, and lovely neighbours. My family is a lot further away and I’m used to having long distance friends anyway. On a personal level I guess the move will not be nearly as liberating as professionally. I am looking forward though to meeting new people.
Grand Amour is so beautiful. I’m so glad I was able to try a sample. At the time I was looking for Quel Amour – oops! 😉
They are quite different, although I happen to really enjoy both.
I’m fried too by my impending move. Can’t wait for it to be resolved. Unfortunately to add to the misery, the AC sprung a leak last night. Waiting for repair man after dismantling the bathroom at 9:30 last night…
I’m finding the whole thing very unnerving. Still, I have found a really great place in a lovely spot and am greatly looking forward to actually living there. I guess the first few weeks will feel like being on a vacation. It’s quite hilly and I live in one of the flattest countries in the world.
Good news that your quote and moving boxes have arrived! Sounds like things will be happening rather soon.
Good morning Y’all,
Trying out Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool, my August Scentbird pick. I like it! Really nice coconut suntan oil scent that includes a good salty beach rock note. Good stuff!
Sounds good!
This one is on my “must try” list. Have you had a good experience with Scentbird? I was considering it but another board I frequent had a few vocal members that had bad experiences.
Scentbird has been great for me…..I’ve been with them for maybe 3 years now? In all this time I’ve only received one damaged sample, and they replaced it within a week. I have my queue built up thru 2022, so reckon I’ll still with ’em for a while longer! 🙂
That sounds good, really nice! I didn’t know Scentbird included niche perfumes?! Or is Arquiste not considered niche anymore? I can’t keep up…
They do have limited niche, but they seem to be adding new brands all the time! I wish they sent a travel case each time, but we can’t have everything….LOL
Thank you! I might be tempted simply because I love the size. Are these decants, or filled by the manufacturer and supplied to scent bird?
Not sure about that….All the labeling looks the same, so I’m totally guessing that Scentbird decants ’em. But really I don’t know! 🙂
That sounds right up my ally!
Have 2 Bath and Body Works packages coming today and hoping the 3rd one ships soon. Woke up in Cormandel today. Even though I am working today, I am going in with a tiny dab of the original Hedonist. I pulled out a decant of Sarrasins that I got a couple months ago and wore it yesterday. It either smells different sprayed or it was reformulated. It doesn’t smell like the leathery, indolic jasmine that I remember. I have a full bottle that I bought about 5 years ago and I am going to have to put that on to see if it was reformulated.
Ah, another one changed then!
Hope your packages arrive soon.
My CP theme this week is Finish It! I’ll be using up as many samples and decants as I can. Starting the week by thunking a decant of Cuir d’Ange. I actually have another decant of this in the wings, so it’s good to pare down to just a single instance of this perfume.
good theme! Might like it better than mine, in fact! I thunked a decant of the lovely chasse au papillon yesterday, in honor of your theme 🙂
Nicely done!
Good theme! Although mostly applicable to decants and testers for me. It takes a great time to finish a bottle in my world…
Yeah, I very rarely finish a bottle. Decants and samples are much more doable.
Theme twins! I’m doing Thunk That Sample.
Yay!
Joining you on your theme starting tomorrow. I have decants and samples of summer scents that have 1ml or less left. Time to finish them!
Me, you, and LizzieB can be the Thunk Club this week!
My SOTD is Heeley’s Menthe Fraiche. It’s sticky outside, and I wanted something easy and refreshing for the first day of the semester (online, thank goodness). I’m looking forward to even slightly cooler weather so I can dive headfirst into all of my richer fragrances.
That’s a nice, non-toothpaste mint
It really is – I’m not a huge fan of mint (fragrance or flavor) in general, but something about this one is appealing to me. I think it’s that cedar base.
I like Menthe Fraiche – it really does what it says on the tin, but in the best possible way and without the feeling you are smelling like mints
First day of the semester, today as an instructor, tomorrow as a student. I’m dressed up and ready to go, and doing an “iterations and cousins of Shalimar week” . Today: vintage parfum de toilette.
I’m concerned about the zoom outages – it would be a super bummer for these poor first year students to have their first day of classes go sideways.
Wait, you’re a professor and a student?
Yes – starting in a doctoral program, and teaching a first general education/writing class. I’m really excited to be a student again – especially since holding class on Zoom (I just got done) is hard work! All these little squares with the little names, and you want the students to get to know each other as well (especially since they are new to college for the most part).
I had dinner with friends last night that included 10 year old twins. She was telling me about the online schooling thing, and all the hoops you have to jump through just to get started. It must be absolutely exhausting for both educators and students.
Our impoverished school district devoted two weeks to onboarding students to their online classes. But, they defunded entirely my son’s science curriculum, so to graduate high school he has to take physics at the local junior college–online of course. He found this out late last week. His first day of physics is today. Fingers crossed.
Let’s hope it’s actually a better experience! We had a couple faculty leave the college for the local community college so the faculty might be really engaging, plus they might have a touch more online teaching experience than teachers at the high school. Fingers crossed!
at my daughter’s hs, a student started a petition to not have 8 hours live online each day because it’s too much – the petition gained 2k signatures in a couple of days.
Send it to me, I’ll sign it.
I’ve been teaching high school online since last Monday. My wifi cut out on Friday during a storm. Heart attack time! Thank goodness the kids were super patient while I figured out to use my phone as a wifi hot spot.
You’ll be smelling great this week! Fingers crossed Zoom stays up and running.
My dealer’s choice is scents inspired by famous people and today I’m wearing the scent inspired by Malle’s aunt, Candice Bergen, who stared in the 1971 film Carnal Knowledge.
Sipping a hot cup of honey lemon water with plans to bake an Italian plum cake shortly. Monday’s are for baking!
Great theme!
Interesting theme!
Really cool theme!
That’s because I’m cool. Not! lol…
Loved that movie.
Never saw it but it’s on my list now!
Looking forward to seeing who else inspires your perfumed picks!
The temperature has finally cooled down (was 34*C on Friday and 29*C on Saturday) so I’m really enjoying 23*C and the clouds this Monday.
I’m wearing Memo Winter Palace.
We are up and down…hot again today, should be better by Weds.
Well, another day, another week. I’m in Bois de Santal er Terre by Kyse–which I loathed for the first few minutes, but once it settled down is warm and pretty. It is not making my proverbial list, but at least I am not at the sink trying to scrub it off.
Yep, another day another week. That’s about how I feel, it all blends together.
Ciao,
Today I thought of you, I ordered Fire from Heaven by Renault.
I have been reading this and that, but nothing is really capturing me. At least I know I love her writing style and she is a sure thing.
Also patiently waiting for the new Ferrante book..
You’ve left me far behind at this point!
Another day, another week….exactly how I’ve felt all day.
I’m in Over the Musk.
Had my phone interview this morning and then went into work to be part of a peer interview panel. Ironic.
Watched Dirty Dancing last night with my girls. One of the greatest summertime movies of all time imho. I did an internet search to see if that resort is still around, and not only is it still around, but they do Dirty Dancing themed weekends in the summer! A person can even stay in Baby’s cabin. Who knew?! May have to add this one to the bucket list.
I still remember seeing that movie with my sister and my best friend. We still reference that memory now and then.
I remember when I first saw it too. I think it’s still a good story.?
How do you feel about the phone interview? And would this be the last step before they offer you your desired position, or would there be a string of additional interviews?
The phone interview went fine (I think), standard questions from HR…tell me about a time you had a conflict with a coworker, what does collaboration in the workplace mean to you, etc etc. This is the same position I applied to and interviewed for almost 2 years ago and got passed over because of the BSN thing. So! Now I am halfway done, I’ll see if it makes a difference.?The in person is the day after Labor Day.
Well, I hope it turns out in your favor after all the hard work you’re doing. ??
Hey, there’s a fun Netflix series called ‘The Movies that Made Us.’ I enjoyed the episode on the making of Dirty Dancing. It was definitely made on song (literally!) and a prayer. Patrick Swayze comes off as near heroic!
Best of luck on the job front.
That would be fun to watch. We don’t have Netflix anymore though.☹️
Thanks!
Going to put on the soundtrack…my favorite!
Nice! That soundtrack always makes me nostalgic.
Good luck! I know you were amazing in your interview.
Aww, thanks! I tried to be amazing.?
I read they’re doing a remake of it!
Yeah, I think they maybe already did. I won’t be watching! They did a remake of Footloose too, I don’t see why people feel the need to “redo” something that was perfect just the way it was.
Good luck on the in-person interview. Is this job closer to where you live?
Thanks! Only by a couple of blocks. My commute is 2.2 miles. If I were really ambitious (which I’m not?) I could walk.
Here’s hoping that your interview today went well! ?
Thanks!?
Agreeeee about Dirty Dancing!
Such a great movie.?
I think I’ll use the Dealer’s Choice theme to follow up on a resolution I’ve made and never kept. Sample Thunking. Each day, I will find a new sample and thunk it. (Unless I love it, in which case I may keep it longer).
Today is the original Arielle Shoshana…is that Saturday? I’ve had the sample around not wanting to thunk it, so today I took the nicely-scented plunge. I smell good.
I tried to get a sample, by the way of the new AA Orange Soleila from Guerlain. The SA at Bergdorf’s didn’t have any. Which I found surprising. It’s also interesting that no stores seem to carry any Shalimar flankers for sniffing.
Sample-thunking is so satisfying! Was working on a bit of decant-thunking as, but currently am playing the field.
Ooh, you do smell good. Love that scent.
I think I tried that AA at Saks? My husband really loves Mandarine Basilic which means it must be purchased 🙂
I got a travel spray of MB on Fragrancenet. I think they had big bottles too. It’s so good. The SA only sprayed OS on a tissue for me. It was kind of obvious he really didn’t know anything about fragrance. He was more a skin care or makeup guy. He literally poured Chamade extrait onto a card for me to sample. Not dabbed. Poured. No complaints from me…I transferred it to my arm.
I think I recall you mentioning Fragrancenet for MB. Definitely will check them out.
Extrait being poured?! Your lucky day 😉
Yep, the original Arielle Shoshana is now called Saturday. One of the best fruit notes in perfume, IMO.
That’s a great theme. I should do that soon. Have some that definitely need thunked.
So, last Monday I fell and fractured a bone in my left elbow, and a bone in my right hand. Today is my first day back at work, and my first time to wear fragrance. I’m wearing vetiver again, which seems to have become a go-to note for me. Today its Elie Saab Essence No. 6, Vetiver. This is a good one, and I’m enjoying it.
Oh, so sorry to hear about your incident. I hope you’re healing well, and the returning to work won’t make it worse. Take care (and take it easy, if you can)!
Love Vetiver!! It’s my perfume version in Jeans and T Shirt.
Ouch! Hope you heal quickly.
So sorry about your fall! Wishing you a speedy and complete healing.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about about your fractures. I hope they heal soon!
Well, that’s an bilateral double whammy! I hope you don’t have to deal with casting and/or tremendous pain.
I hope your recovery is quick and easy!
Oh no! Both sides! I hope you don’t have to type or use keyboards a lot.
Oh no. Do you have casts?
Oh, my! That doesn’t sound good. Right and left both with broken bones.. work must be tough. Hopefully your healing is a good ways along.
Ouch. Sending healing thoughts to you for a speedy recovery!
Yeow and ouch! I hope that your healing is quick and complete.
Good morning. I am wearing Estee Lauder Private Collection and drinking my second cup of green jasmine tea.
I haven’t been on NST for over a week. We were on vacation and we were gone for most of the day, and I would collapse after a full day of Napa wine tasting. I had a tough life, lol. About half of our tastings/tours were cancelled due to the fires there, and we were also monitoring the two hurricane systems heading back home where we live in New Orleans. Mother Nature 🙂
We got home late last night. Praying for all of those in the two storms’ paths.
glad you enjoyed your visit over this way! and am very happy you are home safe and sound 😀
Stay safe!
Sounds like you had a good time despite the fires? Hope so.
Good luck Barqs, and stay safe!
Hurray for a lovely vacation! Stay safe now that you are back home.
Oh gosh your trip sounds amazing! Stay safe!
Being something of a CP Rebel ™ I have a suspicion many Fridays it’s been Dealer Choice on my side. Continuing my unofficial summer theme of pretty-but-fleeting, I have Douceur de Siam on one arm and Meteorites on the other.
the Meteorites bottle is so pretty! I am fond of so many Guerlains 😉
SotD = Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat
In the plain bottle from an online discounter, not the diamond-encrusted or whatever it was bottle for a bazillion euros. 😀 Lasts about as long as a traditional eau de Cologne, or even less, but it’s got fantastic citrus. LOVE it so much, especially in the heat.
I adore A.S. Byatt’s writing, her novel Possession is in my perpetual reading rotation.
Happy birthday to her and to all who celebrate today.
Tell me more about this one, if you don’t mind. BdJ gave it a great review and it sounds lovely for summer.
Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat is all citrus top notes – and that’s it. I love it!
Seriously, it dries down to almost nothing in a short time, a lot like Chanel Eau de Cologne. It’s glorious if you love a gentle yet zesty spritz of citrus when it’s hot or anytime at all. 😀
Oh, Possession is SO. GOOD. I should dig that out and re-read it; it’s been several years.
I hope you will! It’s a story I enjoy every time. I wish someone would make a movie that is true to the novel.
I have read every single person on that list *except* Byatt.
Robin, I highly recommend Possession. It is mysterious, intellectual, poetic (literally), and romantic, all at once.
what Lisa D said! 😀 and her other novels are appealing too. I like A Whistling Woman very much.
That one sounds wonderful!
thank u, KellyC, I think wonderful is a good word for Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. 🙂
In enough Yosh Sottile to no longer be the least bit sottile, but I had insomnia last night so I wanted a nice soothing cloud to be in.
My dealer’s choice this week is “perfumes I didn’t know I’d love”. The bottle of Yosh was a gift from a friend who found it didn’t suit her.
My mom wore Jessica McClintock in the 90s which I found really screechy/acrid in its opening and so I was always very chary of lily-of-the-valley (my birth month flower) perfumes.
This one has changed my mind!
Nice 🙂
SOTD = Gissah Miral, Iris and Oud, first application from my lovely new FB! I have this 11 day rotation going, and with this bottle, I have a FB love for each day. Except I still need a winter Carnation…probably just get more DSH Oeilettes Rouges, since nothing new has out done it. Totally out of the CP today.
Have you tested Vivacious (Hiram Green) yet? It’s not billed as a carnation scent, but I think carnation lovers should definitely check it out.
OH, yes, I like it very much, but it isn’t a carnation forward scent for me – I get violet. And being natural, my skin eats it pretty quickly, but I do like it and will probably get a decant somewhere when my little sample is gone.
I long for Floris Malmaison, basically. 🙂 That seemed like the perfect carnation to me, but it is gone gone gone…
Oh. I haven’t smelled that one. Now I am longing for it as well. 😉
I never see it anywhere ay any price….
I ordered a second bottle of DSH Oeillets Rouges. It is so good!
Sounds like that should go onto a potential list of DSH samples.
I have one of the smaller bottles, the ones that have so much trouble with the spray mechanism, and it is almost gone. I hope the new bottle will work better. I wear this a lot in the winter. It’s a little too heavy for summer for me.
Same issue with the spray mechanism! The replacement wasn’t any better but I managed. I think the issue is that the perfume is very thick. But I ❤️ it just like you do.
Yes, I recall you talking about the sprayer mechanism problem! What other Carnation perfumes do you enjoy? Always interested to compare notes…
Sotd = Serge Lutens Gris Claire
Dealer’ Choice for that on is
“If at first you don’t succeed”
Scents that you initially disliked but stuck with and ended up loving / understanding.
I was thinking about a CP like that. I would call it “Third times the charm”–scents you had to try a few times before you decided you loved them! 😀
Good one.
Another, and this is a confession too: scents you got rid of only to buy again because you missed it too much — ugh! I just repurchased a scent that I sold because I no longer liked it.
I gave away a bottle of Habit Rouge in a freebiemeet once, don’t think I even swapped it. Regardless, I have been missing it ever since lol!
Oh – that’s tough!
Too tired and stressed to do anything but spray the first thing that came to hand, Oeillet Bengal.
I’m with you and Œillet is lovely and rather calming. I hope things work out well for you.
We had a plumbing disaster with the AC last night, but thankfully we were able to get a competent and efficient repair guy out today for which I am enormously grateful.
Thankful for your good repair guy! Hugs for the stress.
Hope your day went better than expected.
It got a lot better, thanks!
Hope you get some good sleep and a stressfree day tomorrow…
You and me both. Thank you. 🙂
Here’s hoping you already got your fill of stresses and you’ll coast through the rest of the week!
I am hoping the same! Please Murphy, no more disasters!
Glad to hear that your A/C got fixed. Bad time to be without it for sure.
The humidity is dire.
Yeah, it’s soupy in quite a few places right now. Ugh.
One of my spring favourites today, Guerlain’s Chant d’Arômes.
I love it in spring as well. Such a gentle and unobtrusive beauty.
Dirty Lemon by Heretic today. This one is quickly becoming my summer favorite. It’s so much more than just a lemon citrus (and I do adore lemons).
I really need to try that one!
Well I know that you have connections, ??but I’d gladly send you some if not.
Just lmk!
SOTD, finally, is Traversee du Bosphore. I reached for it, and now I’m contemplating the CP, so I guess that means I’m doing it backwards! I think this scent would fall into a CP like “A Trip to the Candy Store,” scents that appeal to your sweet tooth. It would also work if there was a CP on “suede” notes–soft, buttery leathers instead of harsher, animalic ones.
May also be good if we did a gender nonbinary project–scents that do not easily match with either traditional “masculine” or “feminine” associations. (As a side note, I find it so fascinating that we have defined certain fragrances with gender–who decided ozonic was masculine and jasmine was feminine? Notes like rose and sandalwood differ in their gendered associations depending on culture. It’s like the pinking and bluing of baby clothes–relatively recent, but now seems so ubiquitous, it’s hard to imagine the world being another way.)
I’m game for ‘a trip to the candy store’!
Me too! Love gourmands. 🙂
Great theme ideas!
My theme is “stuff I can wear to teach only if I’m teaching online”. Today is Jasmin et Cigarette. It’s fabulous and beautiful but as my husband says “Dang, that’s the right kind of scandalous!”. I smell like I’m walking home after the night before.
My husband loves that one as well!
Ah, we used to call that the walk of shame.??
I like your theme!
I wonder what a 1980’s version of Jasmin et Cigarette would have smelled like?
Great theme and smelling great today!
I’m house twins with Lucasi in Memo Marfa. I love this scent! Not sure I can think of a theme to go with it though. Unless something like avant-garde towns! The latest forecast gives a 30% chance of Laura coming to Houston-Galveston and 70% of heading further east toward Louisiana. I’m pretty well-stocked except I forgot coffee. Will pick up cold brew in case my power goes out. I’ll shelter in place but must bring all outdoor flowerpots and decorations inside due to wind. A big chore. Mom’s place is also prepared and has a backup generator. The director told us their local fire department also keeps a close watch on them and has equipment to move people in case of flooding. I didn’t sleep well last night but am trying to be stoic now.
Fingers crossed for you and your mom, Calypso!
Hoping it passes you by!!
Take care, Calypso! Take comfort in your kitties as you hunker down. Hoping it gives you a big fat miss, and the one behind this one too.
Hubster and I cleared the back patio today, so I feel your pain. I’m glad to hear your mom’s place has their process figured out. My sleep cycles have been messed up, too! ?
Wishing you the best, Calypso. Hunkering down is best. I’m glad your mom’s place has additional guardians from the municipality.
Stay safe and dry Calypso! Hoping that you and your mom don’t have anything to worry about.
Stay safe!!!!
SS Cherry Vanilla Amberosia today…particularly busy as I am taking off Thurs and Fri from work this week and mentally I am going into vacation mode already 😉 will circle back on comments later.
We seriously need to meet up for some SS sniffage this winter. Sounds yummy!
Yes, I have many SS samples to share. 🙂
Good for you on taking some personal time!
Yay for days off work!
Late today, after a very sluggish start. I’m weather twins with perfumelover67… the muggies have rolled in with a vengeance today. Yuck!
SOTD = back in Flowerbomb La Vie En Rose, 2009 edition. This seems to have become a nice “grab and go” perfume for the time being.
Got the muggies here too. Just as I was about to head out for my walk, it got pretty dark and thundery, so no walk. Probably none tomorrow either!
No thunderstorms for me today, but there were a lot very late last night. You’re right about tomorrow’s forecast, though. It looks horrid.
Sensuous Nude has been my grab and go this summer! It’s great to have something easy!
Definitely. I was so “blargh” this morning it wasn’t even funny.
It was awful outside today and unfortunately, the rest of the week will be the same here. Summer does not want us to forget that it is still too soon to say goodbye to it! ??
Oh my ?, I am so so late!
SOTD = Chris Rusak AEOOJ (LMB)
Powdery resinous musky! ?.

This week I am wearing perfumes that recently joined my collection. I seem to have a surplus and may go into next week or just pick another week to do Dealer’s Choice.
I’ll repeat this when I can post earlier. I have a bottle of wildflower honey that I’ve used the past 2 years that had since crystallized. I am looking for ideas on what to do with it. Coumarin suggested adding butter and using as a spread for toast (good idea!). Another said bake with apple and walnuts (should be good but I have yet to turn on my oven). I’m looking for ideas such as how about adding vanilla extract and making it into a sweetener for coffee or even seltzer? Thanks!
I just heat it up to melt the crystals, and use it as honey… ?
That perfume sounds lovely, but too dam* hot here for that type of scent right now.
Thanks Deva. So back to its original state once it got inside the bottle. Maybe ?
Crystallized honey can be returned to a liquid state by either putting the container into a hot water bath for 20 minutes or thereabouts, or carefully microwaving it in 10 second intervals.
However, I’ve found that crystallized honey is easier to use as a sweetener in tea. It’s easier to spoon out that way, and the crystals don’t affect any other properties of the honey.
I melt crystallized honey in the microwave and use it to bake challah. But you probably don’t want to turn on your oven right now. 🙂
Grabbed OJ Sampaquita this morning. Maybe I’ll go with a tropical theme this week. Not very inventive but I love tropical scents so it will make me happy and help me through the week lol.
Right now, I’d say that “happy making” is much more important than inventive for a perfume.
