Happy Almost-Friday, happy Chili Dog Day and a very happy 84th birthday to Buddy Guy! What fragrance are you wearing?
I couldn't find what I was originally looking for, but I ended up happy in Etro Shaal Nur.
Reminder: on 7/31, we're doing best of summer...wear the perfume you're reaching for the most this summer. (If it's winter where you are, wear the perfume you're reaching for the most this winter.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Lauren Hutton for Etro Spring Summer 2020.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Darjeeling Tea, from a new sample.
Like?
I do like it. I am not a fan of Jo Malone, and I haven’t bothered to deliberately acquire any samples or decants from the line. This was from a sample pack. I will say that when it first went on it smelled of tea, but it has not gone into a generic flower fragrance on my skin. I prefer the tea.
Gotcha!
Happy Almost Friday Day! SOTD is Hermès Elixer de Merveilles from a bottle I rescued from my refrigerator.
Here’s a short video of American Hiker Trash saving a kitty’s when hiking el Camino de Santiago. This made my little animal loving heart so happy!
https://youtu.be/6zsoVM8KXBs
Thanks for post, Deva.
I’ve watched it three times already to lift my sagging spirits. Good people all around came together to save that little ?
You smell fabulous, by the way.
We love you!
Keep on swimming!
Thanks for sharing the post, Deva. It brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad that kitty found compassionate people to take care of him.
Me too! I needed something uplifting today. ?
You smell perfect.
Thanks! You’re smelling excellent in Paris’s-Deauville??
Deva, just FYI I did just read your comment to me from Tuesday. I do fall terribly behind but I do try to read all comments!
I’m sure I miss some, though, so apologies to anybody who did not get an answer from me.
OMgosh! I don’t have anything that important to say that you should ever apologize for missing it! Unless I ever, via ESP, learn the winning PowerBall numbers ?
Ha, yes, in that case I best not be 2 days behind!
Sweet story. That kitty is basking in comfort now I hope.
I hope so to! So adorable!
Deva, I’m crying over that sweet, lucky kitty and the people who saved her. Thanks for sharing this. ❤️❤️?❤️❤️
?
So heartwarming, thank you Deva.
?
thank u for the video, Deva
i really needed some kitten love today
=^..^=
So adorable! And now at least he has a better than fighting chance?
Are you sure it’s not Friday? These weeks fly by and crawl along at the same time.
That kitty was darling. What a sweet video.
I went to parochial school too, Deva, so I get it 😉 Working on the Cape/Maine split idea.
SoTD is No 19 EDP, because chill.
It’s my Monday, hence the need to boost my mood via kitty rescue videos.?
I hope it’s YOUR Friday and you have a relaxing weekend!
What a sweet and lucky little kitten! ?
Thanks for sharing, Deva! I thought she was going to name the kitten Camino, bit Alabama is just as good. My sister and I were thinking of doing the Camino and we still may … the segment that ends in Rome.
I’ve been really into orange blossom fragrances this summer – today it’s Olympic Orchids Mardi Gras.
Love orange blossom. Take a look at the new Annick Goutal, I just posted it!
Thanks R, I will. AG is one of my favorite houses!
I had one good eye on it for awhile and I am curious..
I am in Heeley Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements. A classic citrus cologne for summer.
My mom loves that one!
SOTD is Dusita’s Le Pavillon d’Or (big thank you to Undina for hosting the split!). Issara is still my favorite in the line but Pavillon is a close second, definitely a best of summer scent for me.
Thanks for the reminder on this one!
Thank you for joining me on that split. I really enjoy this perfume, and I’m glad I’m not alone.
Saint Julep this morning. It was hanging out in a tin where I throw my lipsticks (I was tossing a bunch of them). I’m sure this will fade quickly, so I’ll have an afternoon scent.
Tried out the new laundry room yesterday. Mixed reviews. Good: the front loaders are new and clean (I had an issue with the cleanliness of the old ones.). However, the one I used seems to leak. And, one of the dryers only blew air…no heat. So that wasted some money. According to my husband, another washer ran hot when he set it to cold. I assume they’ll get the bugs out soon.
Buddy Guy! Have seen him a few times. He can knock you back with his virtuosity, but he now tends to talk too much instead of just playing.
I have never seen him! But love his music. They did a nice profile last year in the New Yorker…
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/03/11/buddy-guy-is-keeping-the-blues-alive
I’ve not stepped foot in our laundry room in some time thanks to my husband who kindly handles this chore. But I do remember the days back in my 20s where I had to use a laundrymat and that was the worst! Next dream apt. is washer/dryer IN the apt.
That’s sweet re husband, We each do our own and then share the towels/bedding stuff. Not for any reason, other than we each don’t mind doing laundry. (I prefer to do bedding myself…he can’t fold sheets to save his life.)
I remember in my 40s! heading to the local laundromat. No AC, down two flights of stairs. Hideous. I actually find having a big laundry room in the basement the best of both worlds. I can do many loads at once – still in pj bottoms.
Update: many sprays of Shalimar Cologne, which just arrived. Husband pronounced it beautiful. Enabler pin to LTSG.
You smell great! Mint Julep is so much fun. It doesn’t last long on me either, but it’s worth it.
Yes I am a huge fan of Buddy Huy also. It’s amaIng that he is still playing performing and recording.
Slept and slept apparently through an earthquake.
Perhaps I’ll join Robin in some shal nur, I have overlooked it for several months.
Wow, how big was the earthquake?
4.6 a little north of me plus aftershocks.
felt nothing.
my secret to sleep
utter emotional exhaustion and age.
Age does not work for better sleep with me sadly.
Or me. And worries/stress don’t exhaust me enough, apparently.
That’s about the size of my first ever earthquake, many moons ago in CA.
And I know what you mean about old age and emotional exhaustion 😉
Then you both must age more and weigh yourselves down with more baggage. That’s the ticket!
Lol!
What is your good sleep secret?
I read about that this morning! I’ve only felt little quick shakes here and there since I moved to CA a few months ago. Unless it’s substantial, I’m not sure I’d wake up.
You can usually tell by looking at hanging pictures in your house to see if they are off kilter a bit.
There were two 3.+ aftershocks just a few hours afterward.
Chanel Les exclusifs EDC. Making biscotti, working and later, getting my second in the series of two shingles shots. Wish me luck – I didn’t feel well at all after the first but only for a day or so. I am expecting that may happen again.
And yay for Lauren Hutton – still modeling and looking amazing!
Good luck with your shot! I hope it goes more smoothly this time.
Thanks – crossing fingers here.
I am unsure why I’ve never tried Chanel’s EDC; it seems perfect for me I need to get a sample of that and a few other from the LeS Exclusifs line. I love Sycomore so much, I haven’t given the others much attention.
The EDC is stunning. When I had a giant bottle, I kept it in the fridge and spritzed it head-to-toe in the summer.
I only have a couple of spray samples, but someday I will own a big bottle of this one. It’s classic, well done and really enjoyable for any time. In fact, it may be the only Les Exclusif to join my collection as a bottle.
I bought a bottle right around the time the EDT to EDP transition happened.
Perfect timing on that one!
The EDC didn’t change, though – right?
The Eau de Cologne changed to EDP, too. What I want to know is what ever happened to all the EDTs that got pulled off the shelves? It’s not like there’s a legit aftermarket for those unless someone knows and is not telling ?
Oh, yikes. It’s kind of weird though to think about how you turn an eau de cologne into an eau de parfum…
Good point about the EDTs, I wonder what happened to them as well.
Hopefully those EdTs weren’t just tossed into a landfill.
My mom just had a shingles shot and it wiped her out. Good luck!
“making biscotti” — hard or soft? Love it!!
Yep, that’s how I felt with the first shingles shot. I’ve put off the second shot for a bit because it’s no fun to not feel well. But now I’m toward the end of the period when you should get your second, so today is the day.
Well, my biscotti will be in-between. I don’t like them super hard, but they will get the second toasting! (I’m making them with orange zest and a bit of chocolate.)
Oh, big YUM! I prefer more traditional with the 2nd toasting as well. I’m a dipper 😉
You’ll be glad you did. A younger colleague of mine got shingles a couple of years ago and he was in agony, and completely out of commission for a couple of weeks. I got my shots as soon as I could after that!
Good luck with the shot! I think I might be getting one this year.
It’s a series of two. And way better not to get shingles!
good luck with shot I have been on wait list for two years.
Our drugstores here (Seattle) seem to finally have a good supply. Good luck!
You smell great.
Thank you!
Shots! Eeeeeeeek! Good luck, and I hope that it doesn’t flatten you this time.
Still working on my coffee, pre-spritz. Yesterday I went back for more Bronze Goddess love; BG is definitely on the list for best-of summer scents for me, although I also like to wear it on cool fall days as a sort of autumn denial.
Well, if we seismic retrofit the house, it’s gonna be $6300. Yikes. About $2300 more than we’d hoped it would be. We are discussing options. It’s something we will have done some day for sure, but timelines might have to change with that budget. . .
Today, I am test driving a Subaru Impreza. My current car is a 2007 Honda Fit, and it’s been a very dependable, affordable, golf cart for my (once) daily commutes. It’s still all those things, but I am getting tired of its lack of creature comforts. Not sure how a new car will fit in with the work on the house. . . hard to spend so much money at once!
What I *really* wish I could buy is one of the new plug in electric/gas hybrids, like the Rav-4 or CRV, but that’s another $10k, AND we’d have to set up a plug in the driveway. Probably off the table now. Too bad. It would be great to not have to get gas except on longer trips.
Ugh. Big expense and it’s not like you can even really enjoy it :/
But hard to put a price on peace of mind if it really makes a difference.
Yeah, not nearly as fun as spending that money on furniture or fancying up a bathroom or something! Maybe it’s just because 2020 has been such a drag, but I feel like a big quake in my lifetime is inevitable. I would like to know we’ve done what we can to prepare.
Well, that’s a chunk of change. Do they guarantee it? I’m wondering how high in the Richter scale you can go? Because if it’s a bad quake, and water, electric, and gas lines to your house are compromised, how would you live in the house anyway, most likely for an extended period of time? Do you get a hefty discount on your homeowners insurance if you go ahead with that? ?
They don’t guarantee it; not sure how they could. However, it’s engineered based on a pretty devastating quake hitting the area, as that is the scenario most say we are past due for. Gas line shut-off and supporting a tank water heater, if we had one (the house has a tankless water heater), would be part of the preparations. We will need to store water, and it is part of my basement renovation plans, whenever that project happens, to create space for water storage.
Portland gets all its food and other supplies via bridges, and we only have 1 bridge that is considered likely to survive in case of a catastrophic quake. That means whether our homes have electricity or not, we can expect to be stranded in them for weeks before services and supplies start to return. Having a stable roof over our heads would put us ahead in that situation, even if we need to use the grill in back to cook, etc.
No insurance company in Oregon automatically covers earthquakes. You have to buy supplemental insurance, and it’s relatively expensive.
Sounds like Florida with their flood insurance shenanigans. It’s exorbitantly expensive and legally mandated if you live in a “flood zone,” but it doesn’t cover a hurricane blowing your roof off and dumping a foot of water in your house. There are so many “exceptions” that aren’t covered, it’s ridiculous. Hope you’re able to make the changes you need to make over time so you feel better prepared if something big should happen.
What I don’t get is how there’s incentives built into the federal flood insurance system to rebuild in flood zones instead of relocating. I’ve heard stories of folks rebuilding three and four times, only to have damage in the next round. . . I don’t mean that as a political statement, and I don’t blame folks for doing what makes sense on paper for themselves. Just wish we had a system that rewarded a longer view.
Yep. Retrofitting is a bargain compared to earthquake insurance. Geico offered us a “deal” last year for $4,200 for a year’s insurance. Plus there is a $35K deductible before the insurance kicks in. This year it is supposed to have gone up in price (hence, we are NOT insured for earthquakes).
Yeah we finally gave up our quake insurance after having had it for years. The rate went up 4x from the previous year! And that’s with a 20%-of-your-house-value deductible! Just not worth it. We did a ton of retrofit work when we did a remodel 10 years ago, that will have to do.
Yeah, we’re really torn if the math pencils out on getting insurance or not. I’d like to have it, as I would not have the money to replace my home if it were lost, but it may be just throwing money away. We’re overdue for the BIG ONE, but then, they were fifty years ago, too, and it still hasn’t happened!
Yowsers!
We are opposites I guess. I have a 2009 Honda Fit, ADORE it, and was really looking forward to a new Fit in 2021, and terribly bummed to find that Honda will not market them in the US anymore. Don’t want the 2020 model, so am planning to drive my Fit a few more years then I guess I’ll get a Civic hatchback or something. Boo.
I really like the size of my Fit. Portland has old, very narrow roads, and I like that I can zip around and never worry about losing a mirror or sideswiping something. However, the lack of horsepower really becomes problematic in my commutes–on ramps to the freeway are BARELY long enough to get up to freeway speeds, and gods-forbid if I have to start slowly because the person merging in front of me is pokey. . . merging into traffic at 45mph when they’re going 70mph freaks me out! Then there’s the fact it’s so lightweight, I get blown around when winter storms come through. . . Honestly, I think I’m just sort of ready to break up with it. ?
I posted below about my love for my hybrid Kia; another feature it has is a “sport” burst mode for when you need to speed up quickly, as for an on-ramp. I rarely use it, but it’s nice to have.
Those things are true. I did not love it on the 4th hour of an 8 hour drive! But for day to day, love it, love the cargo room, love that it has never ever had a single problem and has cost me almost nothing to use.
My husband hates it!
Yay for the Civic! The first and only car I bought brand new was a Civic hatchback. It was red with a black interior, I thought it looked like a sporty ladybug 😉 I loved that little car, it was exactly the right size for a short lady like me.
🙂
Could you finance the retrofit, and spread out the financial pain a bit, or do you have to come up with the bill all at once?
We’d pay for it all at once. It’s all about priorities at this point–which project do I want to pay for now, and which project do I save up for later?
I have a plug-in hybrid Kia, and I LOVE it! Less expensive than Toyota. Until our recent beach trip, I hadn’t had to get gas since February. It uses a regular outside outlet by our carport, no need to install a special charger. I like that it can use gas, for long drives (like to the beach, a few hours away), and I still get great gas mileage. But it has an electric range of 24 miles, which covers most of the daily trips I take (especially now that I don’t commute to work).
24 miles is almost enough to be worth it to me. My commute is 15 miles one way. I’d really love to be able to drive to work and back without gas. I suspect that I will be waiting until the NEXT car to get that.
hope you enjoyed your test drive! I would love to hear what you think of the Impreza. I’ve never driven a Subaru but might look that direction next time I need a car.
So, I’m glad I gave it a proper test drive, but I do not like the Impreza. I am a relatively tall woman (5′ 8″) with taller-than-average legs, and I was kicking the steering column and dashboard the whole time. I couldn’t get it comfortable. That’s one of my problems with my Fit, it just isn’t made for longer-legged people. I’ve been inadvertently turning on lights and turn signals with my knees for years!
We did a shorter test drive in an Outback, since we were there, and it was closer to right. Gonna do more research.
thanks, that’s good info! 😀 I’m five feet tall so there’s hope.
I have a Forester and I love it.
In Le Labo’s Thé Noir 29 and wish I had selected something else. Smells sour on me but is terrific on the husband. :/ Short Lauren Hutton story: I met her in a restaurant in NYC’s SoHo back when I worked in the area. I complimented her on looking amazing (she did) and asked her how she does it. “It’s the love of good men!”, she replied. All that and quick-witted, too. Love her.
Ha! I guess I will pin my not so amazing looks on the love of ” I could do better” men?
If I was drinking coffee right now, my laptop screen would be covered with the brown stuff.
Ahahaha!
Twinning with you on this!
Good one!
LOLOL lillyjo!
Great Lauren story, thanks!
Good answer! Think I’ll use it IF I get that question 😉
Love that story!
After spending the past 2 days no 19 edt, it’s comfortable enough outside to wear other things. I switched to no 22 edt. Two more days until I am on vacation and I can’t wait. I am not going anywhere but happy to have a week that I don’t have to be at work.
Love No19 ?
Love No.22 ?
A day and a half now! I’m counting too 🙂
Very excited to be off next week.
Nice! I have to pick some time in August. I have a backlog of work so taking time off means more of a backlog.
Sadly, isn’t that the truth! Hope you have a great holiday anyways.
Thank you. I time my days off for when I’m going to be doing a big Costco run. The new circular just came and I will pore through it to see if I’ll make one this go around.
No. 22 is divine!
No. 22 EDT is so gorgeous! It was my first Chanel fragrance, back in my 20s.
In O de Lancome. I have been reaching for it a lot this summer. Such a refreshing scent never fails me!
Did your humidity ever break? It’s nice here now.
Not yet. Today is supposed to be the last day in the 90’s. Crossing fingers!
O de Lancome is a lovely choice for our not-so-lovely weather!
Thank you! It has been very overwhelming the last 2 weeks. Let’s hope for better temps now.
Twins with you! I grabbed my bottle and sprayed away tonight. I hope your humidity breaks soon!
We smell great! I had few more sprays a couple of minutes ago and it is so enjoyable, as usual.
Eau d’Italie Magnolia Romana today. Always makes me feel a little bit like I’m on holiday on Italy’s east coast.
Ooh. That sounds lovely!
Pretending I’m in the southern hemisphere where it’s winter and wearing Piguet Casbah.
Winter! ?
I was in Bel Respiro briefly … then it disappeared … and now it’s back again … or no, wait, it’s gone again. This is the EDT, from a decant acquired years ago. Did this one get released as an EDP, and if so, have any of you tried/compared? I love it, but it’s so dang fleeting.
Yes. But I don’t recall it at all.
Yes, and I do like the edp format of this one. Definitely give it a try sometime.
Oh, good to know – thank you!
I tried the CdR in EDP and it didn’t smell to good to my nose. Good thing that I got the economy sized bottle of the edt. Coromandel in EDP is a little more sheer but still good. Haven’t tried no 22 or Sycomore in EDP.
I’ve heard that the EDPs are really completely different than the EDTs, which is why I’m hesitant. Someday I’ll make it back into a store and will try whatever I can of the Exclusifs – I loved Sycomore and CdR (and Bel Respiro, of course) in the EDT formulations, but haven’t check out any of the EDPs yet.
They didn’t totally mess up Cormandel, it’s still recognizable but a little thinner or sheer. Chanel really botched CdR. I don’t have any Chanel counter near by that carries the Les Exclusifs line. I think Chanel kind of shot themselves in the foot when they went after the decanters.
I have to agree – not smart on Chanel’s part. Coromandel EDT is great on my mom, but not so much on me, sadly. And that’s really a shame about CdR!
One of my summer favorites that I keep coming back to quite regularly in warm months is Aqua Sextius from Jul et Mad. It’s my SOTD again today.
I am wearing Diptyque Vetyverio today. This is the first time I have purchased a full bottle from this brand. I tried it around five years ago, and have gone through a few decants, and treated myself to a bottle. It arrived yesterday 🙂
?? New Bottle Win!
Congrats!
Enjoy your new bottle!
Yay new bottle!
Yay for your new bottle! ??
SOTD: NUXE Perfume, which I love mainly because it lasts all day and it’s summertime in a bottle to me.
Excited to see a dear friend later today back from having been in CO for the past 4+ months. Little by little people are making their way back to NYC. Also, our vacant apartments, I’ve learned, have already been rented! Go NYC!
Hope it was a fun visit! And yes, go NYC, I’ll vote for that.
Sample of Vierge et Torreros by ELDO. Very nice leather and tuberose with spices. Although smells a bit soapy clean from the distance…weird.
Robin, you smell great in Shaal Nur.
Ooh you smell great! That’s my tuberose unicorn, that note always turns bubblegummy on me otherwise. I call Vierges et Toreros my “sexy goat” scent.
Thanks! Haha sexy goat!
I tested a sample just days ago. I get no tuberose, just musky costus and patchouli, like a Musk ravageur with unwashed hair…. Must be just my skin that doesn’t like it.
I get the tuberose, the rubbery and camphorous part. It’s not that big like in most tuberose based perfumes, here it plays a role like other notes.
Thanks Sebastian! And of course so do you.
Hi friends, haven’t been here in a while! I spent a little over a week not wearing any perfume because my asthma had gotten really bad (suddenly, after some years of being nicely under control). I don’t know if the perfume hiatus is what did the trick–I certainly hope not–but I’m doing much better now, and have not stayed awake all night hacking away 🙂 So here I am in Ginger Piccante, which is definitely one of my summer favorites this year.
Today is my last day of being 32 years old! Tell me what to do to celebrate this last day of being a power of two for another lifetime!
Happy early Birthday!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Happy Birthday (tomorrow)! If you’re working today, I say get done quickly and start the partying ?. I hope your asthma resolves without being perfume-deprived.
Thank you! Excellent idea, hajusuuri. I do have a few late meetings, but maybe I’ll take some time this afternoon for dancing in my backyard 🙂
Woot woot! Hope you have a great day tomorrow! You know I always vote for mac and cheese and champagne. 😉
Ahh, a woman after my own heart. I love this and I may have to do exactly this!
What a great idea! 🙂
A very happy birthday to you Koyel!
Thank you, Robin!
Happy birthday for tomorrow!
Thank you, Gaynor!
Make a favorite dish and savor it? Bonus points if said dish is not terribly complicated.
I love this. Maybe I will also have to do this next week?
YES! Great idea!
Happy birthday! Enjoy your thirties, that was a great decade for me!
Thank you, OH! I hope it will be a good one for me, too!
Happy early birthday! ? ?
I suggest champagne and the best chocolate you have in the house.
Did you and your beloved get the snoring issue sorted out?? Asking for a friend. ?
Thank you! Hmmmm good idea, you can never have enough good chocolate. I do have both good chocolate and champagne at home. Perhaps I will combine with KellyC’s suggestion for champagne, mac & cheese, AND chocolate. Oh yum.
The issue has been significantly mitigated! My fiance has been Neti Potting it 2x/wk, in addition to using the nose strips. The Neti Pot nasal cleanses really seem to be helping a ton! I hope your, uh, friend can benefit from this, too 🙂
Happy Birthday, Koyel, have a lovely day tomorrow!
I say chocolate and champage is a good start to the day. Maybe add a delightful piece of cheesecake.
Thank you, Gail! Mmmm cheesecake, what a marvelous idea!
Happy birthday!! I like all the food ideas suggested so far, maybe you need a birthday week to fit them all in. 🙂
Day off today and the gorgeous weather has improved my mood.
Sotd is Coromandel. It was calling my name loudly this morning. I generally think of it as a winter perfume, but it’s working well for me today.
It’s amazing the impact of weather on our mood. I have been in my usual funk all summer and can’t wait for fall and winter. I become very optimistic, energized, and straight up happier in cooler temps. Enjoy your perfect weather! ☀️
It’s funny how opposite we are on the weather. The past few years, I’ve tried to make an effort to enjoy fall and winter more.
Same here!
Coromandel is wonderful.
It truly is.
Songes which can be a winter perfume because its such a big white floral works well for me in the summer. Its good that you are experimenting with different perfumes in different season. Helps with the rotation..
Definitely helps.
Enjoy your day off, yay to weather improving mood.
Enjoy your day off! If you have gorgeous weather now, it means that I have a chance of getting some in the near future. Fingers crossed!
I love wearing opposite season scents! It brings out other facets of them. Maybe tomorrow I should wear Chergui or Aromatics Elixir as it’s supposed to be a scorcher (although all week it’s been HOT)!
I have yet to smell Coromandel but I bet it’s fantastic!
I wouldn’t do more than 1 spray of AE in the heat! Lol
SotD Angela Ciampagna Rosarium – slept poorly, woke up at 7am and wanted some incense to help me keep chill today.
But we broke into our last remaining jar of kaya jam this week (delicious Singaporean mixture of coconut, egg yolks, sugar and pandan flavor).
Aka I’m wired on kaya toast and coffee and that chill went right out the window ?
Oops? Hopefully I have a productive Thursday anyway. Wishing you all the same!
Pandan! Oh my have I eaten piles of sticky pandan candy in my day. Piles!
Ooh ooh, you just reminded me I have an unopened jar of “buko pandan” butter which is coconut meat with pandan flavor. I will have to dip into that soon!
Paris-Deauville for me today. I love this WHOLE line so I had a hard time picking one to wear today. I think they’re all perfect for summer.
It’s my Friday, thank goodness. I am hoping to sleep in tomorrow and then just hit up the store for a few essentials for next week. I hate shopping after work so usually try and get it out of the way on weekends. I went to the big Korean market in Koreatown this past weekend and stocked up and want to cook a big ol’ Korean feast on Saturday just because I love it and it gives me something to look forward to!
Jealous of your day off! Have fun cooking, and you smell great!
4160Tuesdays What I did on my holidays, because the opening with the candy mint always makes me smile. This really feels like a day at a cooler beach in the sun.
Yep, great summer vacation scent!
My Vivacious arrived so I’m wearing it and loving it!
The mention of Buddy Guy brought an old memory to mind. I’ve always liked him & his music. Around 30 years ago, he was playing a show in town. I remember talking to a friend about how we should really go see him “since he can’t live forever”. So funny to realize that he only would have been in his early 50’s then, but to my youthful self back in the day, it seemed sooooo old.
I know exactly what you mean. Thinking that various performers were so “old”–and now understanding that they were younger than I am today!
Shalimar today, I was in a rush to meet friends at the conservatory garden in Central Park today.
Enjoy the beautiful day and thanks to all yesterday for the book recommendations. My book app on my phone now has a huge list going…
You smell so good!
I’m wearing Zoologist Dragonfly today from a sample. When I tried it last week for the CP I was very taken with it. I put it on again last night and it smelled so delightful that I went ahead and ordered myself a travel spray of it. Exciting! Online shopping is now one of the big pleasures of life. I did make a delicious dinner last night too from the current issue of Bon Appetite magazine–a fish curry with coconut cream and cherry tomatoes. It’s supposed to have cod but I used tilapia and it came out fine. It’s not a heavy or very spicy curry. That coconut cream really ups the yum factor! And I used hatch pepper for the spice.
Thank you everyone for the outpouring of sincere well wishes for my mother yesterday. It’s very worrisome but I have to trust that the facility is taking every possible precaution. I’m hoping to do a Zoom meeting with her this afternoon (the staff have to arrange it).
I missed this about your Mom, is she ok?
She is ok, but two residents at her facility have tested positive. We’re trying to stay optimistic because all residents are staying in their rooms, but the workers do have to come and go. Everyone wears masks and they’re all very careful but it’s scary,
I also missed what is going on with your mom, but hugs and hope she is ok. The fish curry looked so delicious on your ‘gram. I’m going to try and make it next week. 🙂
Thanks, see above on my mom.
We usually make fish curry with tilapia. Though we are lazy and use Trader Joe’s curry sauce 🙂
Whoo hoo on your impending new travel spray!
Sending you hugs for your Mom. And enjoy on your new travel spray.
You are so right about online shopping, so much so that 2 days ago, I pulled the trigger on a bottle of Zoologist Bee which I will split for those interested.
I’m wearing Tuberose Gardenia for the last day of 90+ temps so the weather people say. I’m kind of crabby today, I’ve been essentially stuck in my house for the past 5 months and today I am feeling every single day. Plus, Bertie refused his breakfast this morning and I don’t know if it’s the cancer or he’s just being fussy. Guess I’ll try and tempt him with something different.
Oh, I hope it turns out to be fussiness.
And of course, you smell lovely.
I’m voting on fussiness, too. It’s rampant right now. I know I’m feeling it intensely …
It’s incredibly frustrating to have a cat suddenly decide that the food they have loved for the past 4 months is complete and utter garbage.
Just this past weekend, as I took the shortcut to Wegmans through the liquor store, it just hit me that I no longer find it weird that I and everyone else are wearing masks walking around as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. I am all for wearing masks and don’t view it as being or not being partisan but I refuse to think of it as the way forward forever. I am not seeing light at the end of the tunnel despite all the favorable news about COVID vaccines.
TMI!: Had one of my pregnancy flashbacks in the shower this AM was driven to retching by the scent of the soap and shampoo (I couldn’t tolerate either during my pregnancies). So weird. This happens to me about four or five times a year–sometimes the scent from toothpaste will set me off as well. Very weird, I know. Anyway, I’m in Jicky now, which I got in an NST swap–and seems to be providing the calming comfort my system needs. That, and the beautiful reading of Invictus by the boy at John Lewis’s memorial this morning have given me a little inner peace.
For me I didn’t like the smell of roasting peppers when I was pregnant, eggs being cooked, or nail polish.
Oh my gosh, the smell of eggs made me soooo sick.
Coffee and meat and even pizza did it to me!
Invictus is true poetry, gives me a chill and a thrill and goosebumps every time.
The whole service was beautiful. Long, but just perfect.
I was watching, too. What a sweet, brave boy! He was emotional, but got through it.
Glad Jicky is giving your some balance and comfort. ?❤️
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine
… and not just any old Orange Sanguine! Feast your eyes on the gawrgeous bottle. I figured since I already wore 2 bottle porn perfumes, I may as well include a third one.

In other news, more family drama from the “older” cousins, some of whom were in college or have already graduated (with a bachelor’s degree since a whole bunch went on to advanced degrees) when I was born. Anyway, you can guess what it’s about. For the upcoming immediate family zoom, I pointedly asked for it to be politics-free. Someone set a “condition” for continued participation. Let’s see how well behaved we can be.?
wowza! that is a gorgeous bottle. I have a weakness for blue glass. 😉
It is really pretty. I am trying to tempt someone to buy the special Clementine California bottle.
You know I love that bottle! It looks like you are putting a little dent in it.
Good luck with the cousin’s!
A teeny tiny dent…maybe I’ll channel CM8 and wear it a few days in a row next month.
The cousin’s thing is an exchange going on via Messenger.
I think that bottle suits you to a “T”!
Bletch on more family drama. Just what NOBODY needs right now.
Heh! It is pretty peppy. Agreed that no one needs family drama, ever. Reading the exchange (with the cousins, versus the immediate family for Family Zoom every other Saturday), I got to thinking that if I wrote about the family drama over the years, it could end up being a 500 page book. And this is just on my dad’s side. My mom’s side has some interesting bits too but nothing like dad’s.
SotD = Tobacco Vanille
because lillyjo wore it this week, and because it’s deliciously comforting.
Yesterday I crushed my schedule big time, got lots done fast. I feel lazy today, and my to do list is very short. Perhaps I should pretend I’m a kid on summer break? Ride my bicycle with a friend then play in the lawn sprinklers, drink some lemonade, read a book, stare at the ceiling. Yes, that sounds about right.
Have a relaxing Blursday if you can, dear people of the perfume. 🙂
You smell great tiffanie! Enjoy being a kid today ?
thank you, lillyjo! it’s been a good day to goof off. I even ate some candy, Red Vines licorice. 😀
While I was outside I sat down to get a rock out of my shoe, and when I stood up I realized I sat in a drop of pine sap so my shorts and thigh were all sticky. Can’t be a kid without getting dirty, heh heh.
BTW, alcohol gel hand sanitizer is great for dissolving tree sap.
Red Vines! The only licorice better than Nibs.
Did the tree sap smell good?
Huzzah for getting stuff done, and then enjoying a relaxing day!
the universe seeks balance! especially when it comes to relaxing. 😀
Sotd is A la nuit
So good.
And finally….summer is back! ☀️
Today I am wearing Osmanthe Yunnan.
This is my second take at an introduction, as I was a little late to the game yesterday!
After many years of wearing perfume on and off, it’s become more of a hobby in the past 5 months or so. Sampling has been lots of fun and I’ve been very surprised by what I’ve liked, disliked, and changed my mind about (all tracked with a spreadsheet, because I just can’t help myself).
Welcome! There are plenty of spreadsheet folks here, I bet 🙂
Hello hello!
Hi there and welcome!
Welcome! You smell great!
From one spreadsheet person to another, welcome! ?
Welcome (waving ?) Birdy 16.
Woo hoo, new blood! Welcome!
Just a couple drops of Timbuktu today. Headed out into the woods again to oversee a tree felling crew and soak up some greeny woods magic. Tomorrow I’m having a surgical procedure that I’m starting to feel very jittery about — they’re giving me Valium the day of, but I’m wishing they’d thrown in a few extra for the days leading up to the event! 🙂
Wishing you good luck with the procedure!
Good luck with your surgery and the recovery! ?
Good luck. Sending healing vibes!
Sending good thoughts on the surgery and recovery!
Hope it goes smoothly and the recovery is swift!
I’m here a bit earlier than usual, we are having a breakfast at work to celebrate Matariki, the Maori new year. Matariki is the Maori word for the Pleiades constellation. I’ll wear 31 Rue Cambon, for some added fortitude for the early start!
Enjoy your Matariki observances!
In Baiser Volé Eau de Toilette, easily in my top ten for summer.
Aha, perhaps I will wear that tomorrow.
This is the very definition of a pretty perfume, I think. Wear it soon.
Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’eau this morning. So clear and pretty on this warm day. I get a lot of tomato plant today, and some soft background rose.
You smell wonderful!
Late to this!
1) Am in Jasmin by Molinard- pretty gorgeous jasmine centered perfume! Perfect for summer- not as evocative as Cap Neroli, but still wonderful in heat.
2) Mom cat has been caught- she was quite angry about being caught! But we have her covered, she has food, water and a cool place in my garage. We are trying to get an emergency spay through FCC.
Yeah! So happy you were able to trap her. There must be some sort of program for spaying/neutering feral cats, I hope..?
Yes, there is – I referred to it above: FCC- feral cat coalition.
Glad to hear that Momma Cat has been caught.
Good news about Kitty Momma!
Ahhh better weather today, yay! Sampling Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom. Light musky greeny floral. Pleasant enough.
Hope I join you in better weather soon 🙂
Hopefully this is the last day for my heat wave. Unfortunately, it is supposed to rain for most of tomorrow, so I can’t escape the humidity. Grumble. ??☔
SOTD = back in Wrappings today. Smells good!
Last day for us also. I hope the humidity goes far, far away after the rain is over. We deserve a break!
I hope my weather gets to you soon. We could really use some more rain though.
Smelling great! I hope the humidity breaks sooner rather than later; I hate breaking a sweat when I’m sitting on the couch.
I thought about heading out for a walk but ended up vegging out inside…looking at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – some pretty good stuff!
I’m in Anne Pliska today. Still not sure about this one. I’m getting play doh or plastic or something. At least one review on Fragrantica mentioned play doh, so I’m not crazy.
Gucci Guilty Absolute smells like bandaids and booze and I love it.
Bvlgari Black smells like tires and vanilla and I love it.
Play doh is a no go.
If anyone is interested in this, it’s about 4mls in a 5ml atomizer, give me a shout! Nlmcook aaat sbcglobal dot net. ?
Plah doh and plastic is a no for me too.
Plastic is a big old NOPE for me as well.
SS Lavender Vanilla today.
Feeling sad and unmotivated this week…a sad soiree of sorts..but a soiree should have drinks and finger food at the very least.?
Trying to be mindful of everything I am grateful for including many wonderful vanilla perfumes and this kind community.♥️
I am grateful you are a part of this kind and great smelling community ?
Thank you, lillyjo. ?
Sending you a hug and I hope that you pamper yourself abit today. We are all feeling it, just riding the waves and extending a hand to ones in the trough.
Thank you, AngelaB. ?
What AngelaB said above. You’re definitely not alone, She-ra.
Thank you, SheriG. ?
Hooray for vanilla and hooray for perfume!
Hooray for vanilla indeed. 🙂
I’ve been feeling sad and unmotivated too. Sending you a vanilla hug my friend!
A big vanilla hug right back to you! ♥️
Jicky EDT today, for my son’s postponed high school graduation. It was outdoors, with seats in the stadium taped off in groups of four for family members. The school did a lovely job! And we were done before it got hot.
Congratulations to your son! So nice they were able to find a way to celebrate!
Congratulations to your son!
That sounds lovely, Congratulations!
Congrats to your son! ?
Congrats to your son!
Yay for Young Herbaceous!
Late to the party.
In Acqua di Sale today I swear I detect some cantaloupe seed for the algae /seaweed like note. I find this one to be interesting company probably because it is so different from anything else that I have.
Thank you, SheriG. ?
