A very happy World Chocolate Day to you! (And yes, it's also Tuesday.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm taking community project points for the rum in good old Serge Lutens Chêne. (The original Lubin Idole would be a better fit with the weather, but I am all out.) Tea at the moment is Harney CTC Assam.
Reminder: 7/10 is Piña Colada Day. Wear a perfume with pineapple, coconut, rum, or any combination of the three.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the chocolate teapot from Schokolat ("Our expert chocolatiers have finally created the only working Chocolate Teapot out there! Add a little hot water to create a lovely chocolate fondue inside - perfect for dipping your favorite fruits or marshmallows and enjoying the chocolate covered delights. Fill the teapot with more hot water and stir in cocoa powder to make hot chocolate! Don't let any of the chocolate go to waste - when finished, simply break up the teapot and eat it!") is $55.
In Arielle Shoshana Saturday.
Happy Tuesday everyone!☕
Happy Tuesday!
Thanks for posting early, now I know what to wear today!?
Hi twin! ?
Saturday is such an upbeat perfume!
No doubts! One of my favorites summer scents!
I wore Saturday yesterday! You smell terrific. ?
Thank you! ?
World Chocolate Day? You don’t need to tell me twice! I just put on a couple of generous spritzes of CSP Amour de Cacao, and now I smell like a pan of freshly-baked brownies with salt sprinkled on the top (it really does smell salty). The ultimate comfort scent.
Aha, maybe I will look for my Demeter Brownie later…or maybe I’ll just eat some chocolate.
That gives me ideas for a bedtime scent. 🙂 I have Demeter Chocolate Chip Cookie and CSP Amour de Cacao, and those Petit Chocolatier fragrances. Lots of delicious-smelling choices. 😀
🙂
Note to myself: eat some chocolate later.
I am wearing Beyond Love because it has coconut, although I do not really notice this note today. Just a gorgeous tuberose.
Beyond Love is a beautiful tuberose, although I love and own Carnal Flower, and I also really like Nuit de Bakelite, Beyond Love is the one that really makes me happy, I’m planning on buying a bottle for my birthday next year. You smell so wonderful Glannys- I wish there was somewhere that sells decants of Killian in the Uk!
My plan was to wear Beyond Love, but my decant evaporated.
Tea is French press coffee with soy creamer..
..sitting on my balcony and assessing the damage of the plants that got blown around yesterday during the thunder storm. I am just more concern since they are my neighbors plants and not mine..I rushed to move them around as soon as I heard the thunder.
SOTD Eight & Bob Egypt
Almost forgot for world chocolate day..I always have chocolate, I prefer dark
Is there any other kind? I hope the plants are ok?
They are are ok!
I bought a bar of Divine 70% chocolate
What is your favorite ?
I broke into a Vosges Mo’s Dark Bacon (72% Cacao) which was a WholeFoods Market impulse buy a month ago. I had a third of the bar – ?
You smell great!
I don’t like this one, it’s too masculine on me
It can be, LTSG. I tend toward masculine scents and love it in the winter.
I love the Tea Pot!
I have a little rant today. Both my kids have ASD, and go to a therapy center. In March, when everything was being shut down, I decided to suspend services because I wanted to be cautious and was not convinced they could go there and be safe. Last week, my daughter started back up, with a new technition. A girl who can’t be older than 21, I’m guessing.
Yesterday the girl cancelled because over the holiday weekend, she went to the beach, and found out one of her friends boyfriend has covid. And now the friend is being tested. The girl assured me that she was social distancing but I don’t believe that. I saw our beaches on the news, there was no distancing whatsoever! I contacted 2 manager’s and was told the girl will only be tested if the friends test is positive, which I think is not right. The last time my daughter was with her was Friday, before the known exposure. So now, how can I send my daughter back!?
Because this girl is obviously stupid!
Her dad says we should just stop sending her. We’ve been on the waiting list for over a year for other programs, so then that leaves her with nothing. I’m just so angry right now about people being careless.
I’m copying PL67 in AS Saturday.
Sorry for the long post.
I am so sorry Lillyjo!
Thanks ltsg ?
I am sorry to hear that – it must be so frustrating to find out your daughter has been put at risk in a place that is supposed to help her.
It is really frustrating. She really likes going too. She doesn’t have any friends so it’s her social outlet. Her main goal being there is to help her learn appropriate social skills.
Lillyjo, I’m not surprised you are angry, what a horrible situation for you’re family to be in, through no fault of your own, and how frustrating that they won’t test your daughter. I very much hope that your daughter doesn’t develop symptoms, and I understand how hard it must be for her not to have her club to go to.. so tough.
Oh, I think that I can have my daughter tested privately, but the tech girl won’t be tested unless her friends test comes back positive. As far as I know, my daughter has not been exposed. But how can I trust the tech girl to not continue to act carelessly tomorrow or the next day? And the managers at the center seem to not be concerned with this.
It certainly doesn’t sound like they are behaving ethically or responsibly.
That stinks lillyjo, I’m sorry, I would be ranting too. If the girl was cautious enough to cancel, then why not just get tested to ease everyone’s peace of mind?
She called me this morning to say her friends results would be in this afternoon.
Question for you- How long after being exposed is the test accurate? Is it reasonable to wait 2 weeks to see if the girl gets any symptoms?
I would say waiting two weeks is reasonable. In regards to testing, it depends on the test. Nasal/throat cultures (I think), are more accurate.
Blood tests depend on the type of test and when it was taken.
I’m with you. I have friends (husband/wife) who both tested positive for Covid-19, hubby is really sick with pneumonia, no social distancing – the wife is going out everywhere (using a mask) with the excuse that because she has no symptoms, it’s ok for her to be out. *sigh*
That’s crazy about your friend! It stinks that we have to trust each other to keep ourselves safe. It’s like driving and having to trust that the other person will not cut you off.
I agree with ST, waiting a couple of weeks is more than sensible. I worry, though, about the girl’s behavior in the time prior to her going back to work. If she’s okay with going to a crowded beach on a holiday weekend, was she huddled up with her friends in a bar the weekend before?!? It’s a tough situation, and I really feel for you!
Are there any organizations that offer zoom meetings or play dates of some kind that would give your daughter a little bit of interaction?
There are very little organizations here that work with our insurance, and her age bracket. Most of groups are for grade school or younger. She’s 17, and also because of her behavior issues some places offer little to nothing.
Adding, it took me years to get into this program. The system stinks.
Oh I’m so sorry to hear about that lillyjo – that is SO scary! I just don’t understand folks… (((hugs))) to you.
That is frustrating, lillyjo. 🙁 It is so tough w/ kids b/c as a parent your primary mission is to keep them safe and navigating the current situation is extra tough w/ opposing forces. There are no easy answers about balancing your child’s need for social interaction and the risks of interaction right now. I struggle w/ this myself for my 7 year old daughter. I feel bad about her isolation but don’t think loosening things up is an option given our increasing rates…I am in southern CA. Great, big hugs to you.
Are your schools going to open up in the fall? Ours start Aug 25th and I’m worried about that too.
Yes, they are set to reopen end of Aug here too and I am worried too.
The district did a survey here if we want to do full-time in the classroom, part-time distance learning/part-time in the classroom or full-time distance learning. I said FT in the classroom but that is perhaps wishful thinking and b/c my daughter really misses being around other kids. 🙁 I think they are still tabulating but about 2/3 of responders wanted FT in classroom. I think parents really want kids to go back but I’m not sure what will be possible/realistic at that time. Le sigh.?
My sons both went back to school. The older one’s school has different grades going on different days ( he does Mo, We and Fri for his grade), while the younger one’s school has given the options you listed ie full time in class or online or a 60/40 split. Most parents are back to work though and thoroughly sick of online schooling, so most kids are back to school. My youngest has been back to school for 6 weeks now, and though our Covid numbers are rising alarmingly, there have not been any positive tests amongst the pupils or staff and the one parent who has tested positive, has been very responsible and immediately notified the school and kept his child home. They disinfected the classroom and common areas and that was that.
Hey LJ (that’s L J for lillyjo, but it doesn’t quite look right),
In the short term, that is so effin’ frustrating. I’d be pulling out my hair. And the blase attitude of the manager is doubly frustrating. Always makes me wonder if the person has children of her/his own when I get a cavalier response to risks to my child’s life (being a cancer survivor–he has all sorts of immunity issues, etc. )
Just thinking long term–can you agitate for some of the socializing therapy to be done via Zoom? It is not a total waste of time, given how many social and professional interactions will be online in the next decade in the US–our trajectory of healing is not going to change for a while given the diversity of responses to the pandemic. My ASD son is going to a week-long “camp” for ASD kids that will be entirely online. It won’t be the same as the kids being together in the same room, but there are new and important social skills lessons for online interaction that he will be exposed to. And, he will be with a bunch of teens with whom he has a genuine affinity.
Unfortunately, my daughter will not tolerate any type of zoom interactions. She’s very peculiar about media. For instance, she loves the car radio, but will not listen to it at home. She will take her own selfie, but she gets upset if she sees someone else take a selfie. All stuff we keep working on.
Oh I see. Zoom is a no-go then. My son loves nothing more than staring at a computer screen, so the Zoom leap has gone smoothly. But you raise a good point. I am wondering now about all the kids w ASD who won’t be participating in the online camp because they share your daughter’s aversion. I really hope you get a satisfactory outcome soon.
I’m just learning about Zoom well into middle age, and it feels to me more like interacting with a person than an e-mail, for instance. And I don’t have to drive a distance to see someone. 🙂 A lot of autistic teens and adults who can type fairly well enjoy online chatting. It’s especially good when others understand you when you have a complaint about being misunderstood, like, “It was an *observation*, not a value judgment!”
Another autistic person might reply, “Of course it was an observation (or explanation).” It’s not like someone is deliberately aiming to hurt a more “typical” person’s feelings if they’re not taking how someone else might *feel* about the observation into account in the first place.
I think you’re absolutely in the right!
With all due respect to this Yung woman who says she was social distancing, I’ve noticed that most people straight-up do not have a good sense of what 6ft or 2m is. You shouldn’t even be able to pass your friend a beer at that distance. Basically if you could ever high five your friend, you’ve failed at social distancing.
Good job taking the cautious approach, but so sorry that you have to.
That would make me angry too
Oh, hope you get her on other programs soon.
What a worrying and tricky situation to be in. Sending a big snowy hug!
All I can add is I’m so sorry you have to deal with this. A well deserved rant.
Lillyjo, you have every right to be fired up about this. I think keeping your daughter out for 2 weeks is a sensible precaution. Then you can re-assess the situation and decide if going back is an option for her. It sucks having to make these kind of decisions, though.
Here’s an update- the tech girls friends test was negative. I requested 2 weeks off, which amounts to twenty hours each week. My daughter is having her wisdom teeth out next week anyway. They haven’t gotten back to me yet.
So sorry you have to go through this lillyjo. And how irresponsible was the girl, let alone the managers!
It’s okay to vent about that kind of thing. It’s understandable that you’d be frustrated about the situation. You want your daughter to get her socialization, but you don’t want her to get sick. And that technician sure wasn’t helping with that!
Many people seem to forget that autistic children grow up. And autistic people can keep learning social skills for many years, if they have people around who will spell out very clearly what the right thing to do in a certain type of interaction is. (Or would have been!)
It’s a cool rainy day today, so I’m wearing Boyfriend. I accidentally ordered the perfume oil instead of the EDP, and I really like how close it sits to the skin.
I haven’t had chocolate in a long time! I should fix that.
How long is a long time? I can probably go 3 days without chocolate, although I’ve never put it to a test, lol.
I don’t think I’ve had any since mid-March. My husband is paranoid about having chocolate in the house because he’s convinced the dog will get poisoned. I don’t want to stress him out, so I just kept a stash of chocolate at school. On our last day in the school before we shut down and switched to virtual, my best friend and I ate the entire stash in one sitting! Yes, we were stressed!
And I am paranoid about not having chocolate in the house…no joke. 😉 We ran out a couple days ago but the coffers have now been refilled. Whew.
Seriously. We always have chocolate.
same! I have chocolate stashed several places around the house. It’s nice because I feel like I’ll never run out, and sometimes I forget where or what I stashed, so it’s like I’m making a little chocolate gift to my future self. 🙂
You smell nice! I like their body cream too
I have Boyfriend, and the body oil which I think isn’t in production.
Such a sexy scent, close to the skin and very wearable.
Wearing Byredo Bal d’Afrique. I bought a decant, thinking I loved it but after a few hours it gets tiring. The solution?: wear it on my legs in the summer. Works great! I get just enough of the scent wafting up during the day that I can enjoy it without getting sick of it.
I’ve been applying perfume to the backs of my knees in this heat too, it does work great.
Oh that’s a good idea! I’ll try it with Seville a l’Aube, which is a little too sweet for me.
I have the BdA lotion on my to-buy list for precisely that reason!
I have the hair perfume of BdA, which I very rarely wear. But when I crave it, it is just the thing. Also, the hair perfume has the lasting power of a—hey, that could be a community project–Mayfly perfumes. Ones we love despite being so short-lived. Anyway, the hair perfume scent fades within 90 minutes more or less.
“When you crave it”–I know just what you mean. Your community project idea is a good one!
I have the same problem with all of the Byredo’s that I’ve tried so far. After 30 minutes I’m “OK, next!”.
Must try that too
Hi everyone! My SOTD is Borneo 1834 by Serge Lutens, from my bell jar. Chocolate, labdanum, and patchouli. 🙂
Great teapot Robin!
With the warmer weather, I’ve been drinking more tea than usual. My latest fave is rose hip, hibiscus, and cherry, over ice. Very refreshing.
I’m about to head out for my walk. Everyone have a great day!
You have inspired me to get out my bell jar also!
Excellent! Twins!
Now I want some chocolate…
My favorite Serge. You smell divine.
Thank you! It was my first Bell Jar, purchased by a friend who was visiting Paris. It has special memories for me. 🙂
My little ones love rose hip tea
Aha, and I drink rosehip, hibiscus & lemongrass just about every afternoon.
Hi Robin,
Oh, now the addition of lemongrass sounds delicious! I’ll have to search around for that.
I’m drinking lime- peach green tea, pretty refreshing! Although I may have difficulty getting to sleep.
I do a lot of Celestial Seasonings Country Peach as iced tea…caffeine free and is better cold.
I have some of those Celestial Seasonings fruit-flavored herbal teas. Some have chamomile, too, so would be good for the evening. I didn’t think the blueberry one was good cold, but I should try the peach. Thanks for the idea!
That tea sounds super tasty!
I haven’t tried that one but generally love chocolate w/ patchouli.
I’m wearing Terracotta Le Parfum, for the coconut, but all I’m getting is the sweet, heavy, big white flowers. Too sweet for the heat.
Your SOTD is my plan for Friday
I wear it now for the evening
About the tea pot – I thought it was real, and one of England’s Brown Betty teapots.
I thought, “Well, that’s not a very exciting color for a teapot.” My interest went way up when I read that it was made of chocolate. 😀
Me too!
Cadbury makes a teapot that I assumed was chocolate but finally realized was ceramic done to look like chocolate!
In Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aloha Tiaré for the coconut win today. Bought this when Clyde’s was closing. ?
Finishing up the peach dessert I made, but I think I won’t use that recipe again. For those of you seeking uber simple and very delicious, this one is great and my go-to for when peaches are in season.
https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/rustic-peach-tart
Sometimes I replace cherries with peaches when I make clafoutis
Ooh! If you ever want the REALLY simple route, I just remembered broiled peaches!
Half a ripe peach and remove the pit. Smear a pat of softened butter across the top of each half and sprinkle the top with brown sugar. Broil for 4-6 minutes until bubbly!
Yum!
Will try. Yum!
Oh yum! I just had the most fragrant and delicious huge ripe yellow peach with Greek yogurt for breakfast! It’s such a treat to get a truly good peach. This pie looks good and does sound pretty easy to make. I’m all for store-bought pie crusts!
Oh that looks delicious! And with my pie crust phobia, it’s doable for me. Thanks for sharing! ?
And now with all the peach discussion I have sprayed on Peach and Coriander body spray. It’s turned unbelievably swampy outside.
Wearing OK Fine Fragrances Vanilla aged in Rum Oak Barrel. It is lovely and not too sweet. Their Patchouli aged in Absinthe Oak Barrel is pretty heavenly too.
Those both sound really good!
They are really well done fragrances particularly the vanillas which I like to think of as vanilla perfumes for grown ups.
I haven’t heard of this line…off to research…thanks for the vanilla intel. 😉
I had no idea what to wear today but I wanted something really, really good so I went with Coromandel. Mmmm
Got the results of my covid test last night and as I suspected, I am negative. Next I’d like to do the antibody testing.
Yay!
How do you get an antibody test?
My employer is offering it. It’s a blood test to see if you’ve developed antibodies. It’s my (probably unrealistic) hope that somehow I’ve been exposed, never been sick and now have the antibodies.
I also entertain this hope. Apparently the urgent care down my street offers antibody testing ??
There seems to be only a weak and short antibody reaction with non severe covid infections, so I read lately.
I read that, too. Can’t we get a break with this thing somehow?!?
The Red Cross is currently offering free antibody testing to all blood donors. I’m going on Thursday. (I was planning to donate blood anyway. The antibody test is just a nice bonus.).
You definitely smell really really good
I definitely do.? Thanks!
Glad to hear your test results were negative!
Yay for Coromandel and negative test results.
Woo hoo for the negative COVID test!
World chocolate day? Woot! And I just yesterday received a box of chocolate themed samples from the Perfumed Court!?Hope everyone jade an awesome day!
*has. Autocorrect is not my friend.
Oh that sounds fun! Do let us know if there are any winners.
So far I’ve tried Demeter Brownies, and Chocolate cherries, I definitely like the Brownies better. ☺️I also enjoyed a lovely cup of Abbot’s Chocolate Hazelnut Tea from adagio, themed from the Redwall books by Brian Jacques. I ordered a sample of it and their chocolate truffle tea, both are awesome in different ways. The Abbot’s is subtler in fragrence, more like a good chocolate bar with nuts, the truffle smells sweeter, like a chocolate ganache frosting, but both have a smooth black tea taste. Iv been trying to channel my cravings for sweets into other sensory experiences like tea and perfume and bath products. ?I’ll try and report in as I work my way through the samples.
Hope you find a winner! Aquolina used to make a scent called Chocolovers, wish I’d bought the lotion or could find another excellent chocolate lotion.
No chocolate scent for me – I prefer to eat chocolate, not wear it! I smell refreshing though in Ginger Essence
🙂
This teapot is mine! What a fun idea.
SOTD: Iris Nobile EDT
Not sure I own any pineapple scents. Coconut, yes, but that’s probably it. Can’t recall the last time I even ate pineapple. Not top of the list when it comes to fruit for me.
Me either! I just don’t get the love for pineapple. So sweet, and the enzymes start to burn my tongue after a few pieces…
I use frozen pineapple in my smoothies. It somehow counterbalances the frozen kale and spinach when I add those veggies. Doesn’t add much flavor but mitigates other strong flavors.
For me, eating uncooked pineapple feels like a trail of burning all they way down from my throat to my stomach ?
Mom starts complaining about the burn after a bit. I remind her that those enzymes are the same enzymes used to tenderize meat. The stinging is from the enzymes in pineapple starting to tenderize the flesh of your mouth and tongue and throat. But I’m sure you knew that. 🙂
Thanks for the science. I don’t think I have ever consciously tenderized meat.
Starting with a spritz of Nightingale, which so far is being a vague rose.
A vague rose sounds appealing to me, actually!
This heat wave is killer here in Cleveland. I am sluggish and ornery right now. I am working on cleaning up the house before my dad comes home on Friday. Finished the morning stuff and have 2 little projects for after work. Did the morning chores in Lyric. Wearing Kyoto for work.
The heat wave in my area ended today, so maybe you will get lucky soon too?
Nothing cooler until Saturday.
Same here. I was debating if I should take a walk (after 6PM) because it was still humid although no oppressively hot. We actually ended up with a cool breeze!
I was blissfully unaware of the pina colada theme for this week, I thought we were just doing pineaple.
Anyway, I’m wearing Chergui and enjoying it. It smells of hay and syrup and is just very soothing. Love it on a warm day.
Not a huge fan of chocolate. I love the taste but it quickly makes me me feel queasy.
We are SL cousins then, but entirely unrelated on the chocolate issue 🙂
Happy World Chocolate Day everyone! I didn’t have mine yet (unless hot chocolate at work counts?) but with my dieting I’m not sure if I want to sin 😉
Got my package with NEZ and Orris in Perfumery today, along with samples of Diptyque Oyedo, Heeley Note de Yuzu and Vilhelm Parfumerie Modest Mimosa. On first impression the latter one wins. Still have to look for my new perfect citrus.
SotD is Le Labo Iris 39. If it wasn’t so expensive I would have some in my collection by now…
I think “sinning” on world chocolate ? day is a must
I bought a bar of bitter chocolate 80% cacao from Wedel. Yum!
You are in Europe right? Much better chocolate than here so I am jealous
I have 70%, one is from Divine and the other I like is chocolove, they have love poems inside ❤️
Correct!
Happy to send you some of our chocolates if you’re at it?
All this talk of chocolate inspired me to sample Dame Chocolate oil today…will update w/ thoughts later.
I have also been testing perfume samples w/ the scent strips I ordered
a few weeks ago and it has been wonderful. I sniffed a couple Gallivant scents yesterday afternoon and compared against the Fragrantica notes and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Simple pleasures.?
I sniffed Amsterdam, Berlin and Brooklyn and Brooklyn was the winner to my nose. Alphabetical order seemed logical.?
Brooklyn is great! I just bought a FB! Try Istanbul, I think you will like it too
I love Brooklyn too. It’s a sure-fire mood lifter for me.
World Chocolate Day is now my new favorite holiday! I’ll be making brown butter chocolate chip bars later today after I finish making oatmeal bread. Woo hoo! ? ?
TotD = Taylor’s Scottish Breakfast + some oolong I’m trying to use up. The oolong is a little grassy, but blends well.
SotD = Atelier Iris Rebelle. It’s muggy yet raining off and on. In Texas, we are grateful for every drop of rain that falls in July.
I hope everyone has a great day. ?
Your baking has me drooling! Yum!
Kneading bread is one of my most effective meditations, as it turns out!
When I was a kid, my grandmother baked and sold bread out of the house.
She made flat bread and would spin it like pizza dough. I loved watching her. Unfortunately didn’t learn how to do it.
Gee, it hasn’t rained at all at my house!
Most of the rain was north of us. We had two separate showers, but I think it’s gone now.
Wow, I will be right over with my plate to taste your goodies
Bring some Tupperware while you’re at it! ?
But WHY is it a TEA pot??? A mystery I shall ponder today. . . .
Anyhooo. I’m in that favorite mango tango Bombay Bling.
And why didn’t Robin mention World Chocolate Day yesterday??? It’s like ‘Today is WORLD CHOCOLATE DAY!!!!! But , sorry, not for you Kanuka and Gaynor. You missed it…only 364 days to go. But here’s a chocolate teapot photo!!!”
“But here’s a chocolate teapot photo!!!” Hahaha!
Kanuka-if you’re gonna live on the upsidedown part of the planet, you may get an awesome PM, but you’re gonna miss World Chocolate Day. Just the way it is. Fair is fair.
LOL!
But in a global sense, hey, it’s World Chocolate day *somewhere* just like it’s cocktail hour *somewhere* — so why not just celebrate anyway?
I have the means at home to celebrate World Chocolate Day. 😀 I feel happy about being able to participate in the celebration of theobroma (sp?), the “food of the gods.” A week or so ago, I got marshmallows and chocolate bars, and we have graham crackers at home. I’ve been making microwave s’mores. 🙂
I’ve been drinking chocolate milk every so often for some months, too. At least I also get some protein that way, and it’s 2% milk.
I’m kind of sorry I missed Fried Chicken day, but we can always celebrate that belatedly. We don’t have a deep fat fryer at home, but we get takeout fried chicken fairly regularly.
I haven’t had anything to report on perfumes. I’ll try to wear something with coconut or something fruity as a bedtime scent some evening. I really can’t wear perfume in the house during the day, and don’t want to be outside when it’s 90+ degrees out and/or there’s a thunderstorm.
Jalapeno, Mom and I went on a morning grocery store run on Monday. Mom wanted to go out again after dinner, but I watched the weather report at noon, and said, “No, you really don’t.”
Additional catching up: We’ve been muddling along here. The dishwasher broke last week. “That’s what I’m here for,” I said brightly. Mom is eager to get a new dishwasher, of course. She and Dad picked one out, but need to see when it can be delivered and installed. The delivery won’t be happening right away, that’s for sure.
We got Disney+ for a month so Mom could watch “Hamilton.” I wasn’t sitting close enough to the TV to see it clearly, and had my reading glasses on anyway, but I listened to it. Mom had Feelings about various happenings in the musical. I said, “Mom, you double-majored in American history and American Studies. It’s not like you didn’t know what happened.” Dad said he’d read the book by Ron Chernow back when. He also has a degree in history.
Mom and I have both gotten kind of carried away with curbside pickup of library books. I’m still reading soul food cookbooks and books about African-American foodways generally. I already had a cookbook by Mama Dip, who ran a restaurant in North Carolina (?) for many years. I got ambitious enough to make a simple pancake recipe from her cookbook. We’re not putting the oven on to do baking until the weather cools down a lot.
I’ve grown a lot of culinary herbs this year, and many are still alive. Also, the scented geraniums are doing pretty well. I know there’s a way to flavor jelly with rose geranium leaves. I think you start with apple jelly as a base. It would be a very long time before I got that ambitious, though. But I do want to use the sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano, etc., etc., for flavoring foods. The anise hyssop Agastache is blooming. The bees love it. That’s the one that smells like root beer. 🙂 The spearmint and apple mint are trying to take over their areas, as mint does. Time to use a bunch of it to make mint tea.
The once-blooming roses are done, but the fuchsia I planted a few weeks ago is blooming. Out in back of the house, I have a big patch of red bee balm that took over the herb garden. I’m hoping it attracts hummingbirds. I also have a big patch of lavender-flowered bee balm planted by the drainpipe, since bee balm likes to get a good amount of water. Dad took a picture of a ‘Teasing Georgia’ rose that’s blooming today.
*Hugs* to folks who need or want them. 🙂
Thanks for your garden update. I love reading about other people’s gardens.
Replying here about the return to school comment above…your post gives me hope. I had read the article below which also is positive and references the risk to contract/spread might be lower for young children based on when receptors develop.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/is-it-safe-to-reopen-schools-these-countries-say-yes-11590928949
Oh, you’re very welcome. 🙂 I know that’s not really the purpose of this site, but it’s a fun thing to talk about. I love discussing what plants I’m trying to grow, and hearing about other people’s gardens. 🙂
Oh, and not exactly the “garden,” but the ‘Maid of Orleans’ jasmine I have on the porch is loving the hot and humid weather here now. Although ‘Maid of Orleans’ is a reference to Joan of Arc, of course, I think that kind of jasmine is native to the Philippines. It has a number of buds and flowers. Each flower only last for a day, but there are another two or three that open the next day. The indolic qualities of the sambac jasmine fragrance are lessened for me when it’s outside.
*should be “only lasts”
Hugs back ?
*Huggles* 😀
I love your sentence: “I’ve grown a lot of culinary herbs this year, and many are still alive.” I could say the same thing!
I’m trying to figure out where basil will best grow in my yard. I have some in a pot that I thought was going to croak, but it seems to be coming back. The leaves at the base of the plants are gone from whatever was eating it, so it looks like a toadstool now.
I bought two of those live basil plants when I grocery shopped last week. Left them on the patio and forgot about them, so they wilted almost past the point of viability. Planted them in the herb bed, and they actually are looking pretty good! I’ll wait a bit before I snip from them; they need a little more TLC.
I’m on about the fifth try with basil plants. 🙂 The report: (1) I got a hydroponic one at the grocery store and just put some water in its wrappings, and it rotted. (2) brought one inside when it was cold, but it had gotten gnats, put it outside again and it froze. (3) Didn’t bring # 3 in when the temperature went down to 40 degrees F, all the leaves turned black. (4) Potted another little one, forgot to water the inside plants when it was raining a lot outside, and that one dried out.
Still alive: (5) is a hydroponic one that isn’t really getting enough sun on the windowsill. I do try to keep enough water in the little vase so the roots don’t dry out, but not so much that the stems rot. It’s a delicate balance. (lol) (6) is another little pot from a home and garden store that’s out on the porch, but it has holes in the leaves from things eating it.
I should just use up # 5 by making bruschetta or aioli before it gives up/I forget and let it dry out.
Fwiw, you can make some very tasty scrambled eggs by putting a little fresh sage in them.
Glad to hear that you and your parents were hunkered down yesterday, too!
Even fresh parsley makes scrambled eggs better! Or lemon thyme, I do that a lot.
Thanks for the advice for the seasoning of scrambled eggs, ladies. 🙂 I may try that this week.
I heard “golf-ball-sized hail” and “6 inches of rain in some places” and “flash flood warnings” on the noon weather report, and was like, “No, we don’t want to go outside again.”
We’re on a little hill, and don’t have a basement. However, the shopping area nearest to us is low-lying, and the crossroad is prone to flood out. The park near it was an attempt to save a little bit of the marginal wetland in the area. It’s lively with bird calls, and there are a lot of spring peepers making their peeping noises in the spring. Some of the birds are easier to see than others, and there are a lot of insects for the insectivores to eat. And the water rolls right off the ducks’ backs, as the saying goes. lol
More food-related: I celebrated World Chocolate Day with a microwave s’more (very messy, but tasty) and a cup of chocolate milk. I had gotten pieces of already-shelled coconut and a bottle of coconut water from the grocery store the other day, and also had those today. I’ll pretend that halfway counts. lol!
SOTD is Dryad, combined with Mediterranean hand cream (a surprisingly good mix). No perfume CP points for me, but Mr. G made actual pina coladas last night – does that count? I will join neyronrose in celebrating World Chocolate Day by having a handful of chocolate chips. 🙂
Just noticed the autocorrect typo – it’s Mediterraneo hand cream. My phone knows that; why doesn’t my big computer get it? 😉
Mmm actual pina coladas most definitely count.?
Yay for celebrating World Chocolate Day together! *raises a glass of chocolate milk*
And I agree with She-ra that actual pina coladas would totally count for any celebration of Pina Colada day!
It’s World Chocolate Day everyday!
SOTD = Guerlain Eau de Guerlain from my gorgeous red bee bottle.
And since the 8 spritzes barely lasted 5 hours, I re-upped with SL Borneo 1834 (Palais Royale bottle) so twins with a bunch of peeps here.
Another call out for the Bruno Fazzolari Sample Set program. Essentially, for $9 (which includes shipping), you get a customizable 3-sample set and a 2nd person (for another $9) gets the exact same set. If interested, go to the Lazy Weekend Poll from a few days ago; my post is around the 12:23pm Eastern time stamp. Offer is good for July and I offered to match pairs of people. Please email me by July 10 to be included in the matching.
It’s Taco Tuesday chez hajusuuri, as it was Taco Monday last night. ?
That bee bottle is serious flacon porn!
It is!
Yuck and double yuck about you getting hail yesterday! I hope nothing was damaged.
I didn’t look too closely ??♀️… tomorrow in the sun
I stopped at taco bell on my way home tonight. Taco twins!
Ha! I almost had a taco fail yesterday. In typical fashion, without bothering to look at a recipe, I thought I was ready because I had the tortilla, fish, cilantro and lime. Oh no… wrong! I needed to have a base for the fish (turned out to be coleslaw) and marinade spices (there were more hot spices but I landed on the milder cumin and paprika). So, after a trip to Wegmans, I made it.
I am definitely with the CP today — SOTD is Smell Bent Ice Station Pineapple. Pineapple, mint, coconut. I smell fruity 🙂
That does sound fun!
Doing LL Fleur de Corail, my only coconut perfume, except for ELdO FdD, but I honestly don’t get coconut from that one.
I think I will wear that LL tomorrow! You smell heavenly!
That particular Lolita Lempicka has one of the prettiest perfume bottles ever.
SotD = Vanille Galante
yup, there’s rum in there. Once I entered an elevator and after a few moments someone said, “Smells like someone has been drinking.” I was wearing VG. I didn’t confess. 😉
7/7 for World Chocolate day is a lucky thing. Coincidentally I’ve got a date with a bar of Ghirardelli dark chocolate later today.
Fell down a perfumed rabbit hole late last night when I read Portia’s mention of Habit Rouge L’Eau over at Perfume Posse, which led me to Angela’s writing here at NST about her 2010 trip to Paris with March, who also wrote about it over at Perfume Posse, and so on . . . now I’m going to stick my face in my perfume cupboard, inhale deeply, and imagine I’m in the Guerlain shop on the Champs-Élysées.
Love this. I enjoy falling down those rabbit holes. I think I’ll join you on the Champs-Élysées.
And I’m kind of interested in finding some Habit Rouge L’Eau.
I went down the same rabbit hole! HRLE is cheap as chips on fragrancex. ?
perfumath free! I learned that from hajusuuri. 😉
HRL’Eau does sound good! hard to resist, Guerlain scents often work for me.
Fils de Dieu today, but now wearing some Terracotta for the evening. Double coconut points for me!
Nice!
Parfums DelRae Panache today. I don’t really get the rum in this, but it’s listed. This fragrance has always been difficult for me to describe – some bergamot, musky ambrette, vetiver.
It’s not a top favorite, but I’ve kept it because I enjoy it when in the right mood and PDR is now defunct. However, in my quest to streamline my life, I may need to consider letting this one move on to someone else.
PdR joins Gobin Daude in my short list of very sad brand disappearances 🙁
Robin, the teapot seems to be made of chocolate. Points for wearing Rouge Bunny Rouge Tenera, I smell like sweet and spicy rum.
Ah yes, it is chocolate, silly me, clever of you.
Thank you, I was confused!
Does anyone know if the Dame perfumery code is still good for a 5ml Dame Man fragrance or was that just the 4th?
We are just back from camping so I missed it on Saturday’s post.
I just went back and read the email. It says one day only.
Thanks for checking for me!
You can email him to see if he will honor the discount. There is no downside in doing so. I always say you don’t ask, you don’t get.
You’re right. I think you can always ask politely, knowing you need to accept gracefully if the answer is no. I’ll email him now.
I’m on theme today with Arquiste’s Anima Dulcis, it’s cocoa rather than chocolate, so not too sweet.
Robin, thanks for the garden link yesterday. She had a good kiwi accent! Lots of snow on the tops of the hills and a cold breeze, but it should be sunny. Thanks everyone for yesterday’s good wishes. Alex seemed pretty good when I visited him post-op. I couldn’t see the shape of his ear under the dressings…I am curious about that. They took three lymph nodes to test . He should come home today. I felt sorry for the other men in his room, all out of towners having to travel hours , one with a beautiful southland accent…they roll their ‘r’s and sometimes it is very noticeable ( Scottish and Irish whalers were the first Europeans down there, compared to English up north). Perfume:Copper. Thanks again everyone!
Oh no, I missed the story, as I as somewhat MIA yesterday. Must go back and catch up. Hope all is well.
Through serendipity, I managed to have a little nibble from my chocolate stash before I knew it was World Chocolate Day. However, to celebrate the occasion, I think I will go back and have another nibble. ??
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant, from the sample stash. Perfect for more hot & humid weather. No storms today! (Yet.)
You smell great! Cedrat Enivrant is one of my favorites from Atelier Cologne!
I’m wearing Havana Vanille from my decade-old, still half full bottle. The rum dominates. I do enjoy this but have never liked rum at all. It’s the drink of choice of a family alcoholic and that also puts me off. I don’t have any pineapple scents so guess that puts me in coconut for the rest of this week. Feeling a bit low energy after dropping a 20-pound container of cat litter on my foot while grocery shopping yesterday. It was a bit cut and swollen and is mildly purple today but not as bad as I was expecting. I’ve got to ice and elevate it.
Oh ouch! Yes, ice and elevating it is the best treatment. I hope it’s back to normal, or close to it, tomorrow.
Ow ow ow ow! I hope that you didn’t do a lot of damage.
Oh no…hope your foot heals quickly.
That’s painful! Did you fill out an accident report?
No, I never even thought of it. I just felt I’d been dumb
If you think you might have a problem with healing, you can still fill one out.
Ouch. Hope it heals quickly!
ouch!!!
Late to the party, had a crazy busy day
Sotd Ombre Leather
I had a team meeting today at the office. Was kinda weird being there after so many months working from home
Company policy:
We were allowed to meet for 2 hours max in a room big enough for distancing. And it wont be a weekly thing.
our next meeting will probably be in August.
I started taking horse riding lessons again. Its challenging but also tons of fun.
Did you have to wear masks?
I’ll be in the last groups and unlikely to go in before September. The rules are – in common spaces, masks are required even if you can social distanced. Meetings in a conference room, even with social distancing, is discouraged, but if a group must meet, masks must be worn.
Masks were not required.
The Netherlands has a weird mask policy.
We only have to wear them in public transport and in some other situations. But not in stores. Not on the streets.
Mask wearing was never a requirement here, and it still isnt. Though of course you are not frowned upon if you wear one.
But still, the number of ICU intakes and covid19 cases has seen a strong decrease.
Most people here still work from home, and in stores a limited amount of people are allowed. Ive seen everybody wearing masks at the hair salons though. ??
(Still need to get a haircut myself but I am still not very keen on going)
I can imagine the mask policy will change if numbers increase.
A small mistake.
What i meant to say in 3rd paragraph. “mask wearing in stores or on street was never a requirement here”
Givenchy Very Irresistible
