Hump Day and Midsummer’s Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Jour D'Hermès Absolu, because KellyC was talking about Jour yesterday.
Reminder: on 6/26, wear a perfume by Une Nuit Nomade, Ulrich Lang, Vilhelm Parfumerie or Vero Profumo if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letters U or V.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

This picture goes very well with your SOTD, Robin.
I am wearing Opium. I often miss orientals in summer, so whenever the weather gets cooler (or I stay all day in an air conditioned room), I put on one of winter fragrances like Opium.
And it goes with our weather, which is finally glorious after too many days of high humidity. So nice to have the windows open again!
fresh air is wonderful! glad the humidity has dropped for you, and very happy Jour is getting some love. It’s beautiful.
Finally got my back door painted, finally getting to use my front porch furniture…in my rocker right now with a nice cup of tea.
I do that, too, Glanys! I love my spicy, cozy Oriental fragrances, but they can be overwhelming in summer.
On a side note, I wonder if it’s time we rename “oriental” fragrances? It seems like such an anachronistic term. I like saying the word “fougere,” so maybe there’s something in French that would be similarly evocative and less problematic? Epices, (spices)?
There’s been a discussion about that on Facebook, I think they suggested dividing it into resins, spices, etc.
I suppose the whole idea is a construct, so we can make as many or as few categories as we want. Like what is the dividing line between spice scents and gourmandes?
Since we talk about terminology and classification, aren’t “chypre” and “fougere” kind of obsolete and inaccurate? I believe Michael Edwards puts chypres in mossy woods and fougeres in aromatic category.

Thrift store OOTD no name black skirt and a Oscar de la Renta ruffled blouse
Wow, you have really whipped through those books.
The summer reading poll is coming up on Saturday folks!
I am obsessed. I can’t stop reading them..however I don’t want to finish either since people have mentioned how sad it is when the series end..
I read them two years ago and I am still sad that they ended.
A mom friend I know said the same thing..
Lovestosmellgood, that’s the sad part of finishing an enjoyable book series, you don’t want it to end! It’s so tempting to rush through it (which I’m known to do, and then regret it).
I want to go thrift-store shopping with you, your wardrobe finds are amazing!
Thanks!
Its funny that you mention this because I just picked up my kids things from school. She mentioned that she loved my clothing and I told her everything (almost) comes from second hand stores and the look on her face was one I couldn’t tell because we were in masks..
Getting a bit of cooler air this morning after a week of boiling temps, ahhhh. Wearing Mancera Wild Cherry just because. 🙂
It is much nicer out today than the past few days.
See below for my take on Vivacious. I love it!
Isn’t it lovely?
Last night I listened to a lecture on the importance of the Italian language, and the moderator was in Montreal and I thought of you and how I will miss going to Canada this summer. I also miss my FIL and his chai tea (he is in Ontario)
Aww, it’s sad your FIL can’t visit. :-(. Hopefully this fall the border will reopen.
How is your FIL though? I always think of him, admittedly only because of the tea.
I miss his chai tea, too. It sounds so delicious.
Finally under 30°C today! Wearing my Singapore orchid perfume at the moment.
Double grateful for the dip I’m weather: I got asked very last minute to do a bit of performance for Quebec’s St Jean Baptiste Day today with a few other artists so *gulp* I will be semi-improvising a short act after 5pm today. It’s very low-key but still, first time back in the saddle in three months!
Good luck, teebear! (Spell check changed it to teen ear ?)
Oh nice!
Good luck!
That’s great you got a gig, enjoy!
Congrats! ??
I’m wearing Infusion de Vetiver, which I chose because I didn’t want to be too agressive with vetiver, since I am evaluating a staff member today. I read both Kevin’s review on NST, and Victoria’s review on Bois de Jasmin. So far I agree more with Kevin than Victoria, but we’ll see what it smells like in a few hours. I should say that I just received several mini bottles, and I’m trying them out. I’ve never worn any of them. So far I’m batting zero.
Sorry for the zero score, PriscillaE!
JM Lime Basil & Mandarin.
We starting watching Tales from the Loop last night on prime and holy cow that first episode blew my mind.? It’s like nothing I’ve watched in a really long tine. If you like mind bending stuff, it is one to check out.
Is it on Amazon (?) or Netflix (?)? Is it about the Chicago Loop or something else?
Amazon Prime! Something else!
Lol, thanks Robin.
Thank you. It’s “free” since I already paid for “Prime” shipping ?
Check out the trailer! It’s really good.
I will. Thanks!
Oh, quick look — that looks great, adding to my list.
It is so interesting. After we watched the first episode my 14 year old said her brain hurt.? I stayed up past my bedtime to watch a second episode. You know it’s good if I would sacrifice sleep.
LOL!! Well if it made her brain hurt maybe it will make my brain hurt even more, since presumably her brain is in better shape than mine.
That looks very interesting, thought provoking, but not violent. I have no tolerance for anything graphic right now.
Binge watching old Dick Van Dyke shows seems to be my speed at the moment!
My husband is into old Emergency! shows.
OMG, Emergency. Forgot it existed.
I was so in love with Randy Mantooth ?
Holy cow I forgot him too.
That is the only TV show involving doctors and firefighters that I have liked.
I’ll have to look that up! Thanks for recommending it!
I’m enjoying Gotham but at times it’s violent and overall, it’s quite dark.
This is not violent- so far- just really intriguing.
It’s based on some super cool artwork by Simon Stålenhag.
Yes! We watched an “extra” that talked about that. I had no idea, I think they even consulted with him. Very cool, I will have to check out his work.
Oh wow, I just checked out the trailer on your recommendation, madtowngirl, and it looks really interesting. I like a lot of those cast members. Thanks for this!
Ok, I am joining the crowd, this looks so good. Thanks MTG.
I am wearing Czech & Speake Dark Rose and drinking my second cup of East Indian Oolong tea.
Ah, you smell great today Barqs.
Those both sound wonderful. ?
Wearing Jul et Mad Terrasse à St.-Germain from a sample today. It’s nice but nothing I feel like I need to own.
I remember liking Amour de Palazzo years ago when I smelled it but my favorite from the brand is their latest, Stairway to Heaven, which based on the notes (aldehydes, musks, powdery character) I should not like, but there is something appealing about it that I cannot put my finger on. It’s just smells like slightly sweet pine tree sap to me. I would not mind a bottle of that one.
Have a lovely day NSTers!
Mmmm, pine tree sap!
I really liked Stairway to Heaven when I sampled it, so I need to give it a full wearing soon.
SOTD = Hiram Green Vivacious
8 sprays! Aldehylic spicy candied violet with an initial blast of earthy iris which is then threaded throughout. It has the Hiram Green base that gives it a retro vibe (anyone come up with a monicker for this yet?). There are no aldehydes in the notes list but then again, I usually get the zing from citrus. Very well done ??❣️ Note: I don’t get a lipstick vibe so if you are looking for that, this may not be the one for you, but then again, every nose is different.
Question for NJ peeps and elsewhere too – do you know if primary envelopes are color coded to distinguish between the 2 parties? I am debating if I should make the extra effort to drop mine in a mailbox vs leaving it out for collection.
In other news, I have a 2 degrees of separation UAE connection and I am inquiring as to the possibility of getting a bottle of Chanel Le Lion. All the descriptions I’ve read indicate it is nice so I was hoping to get a jumpstart. The guy deals with watches and accessories so is used to exports but not of “dangerous” goods. My friend shocked me when he asked what is the top note and what is the base note so I just pinged him the entry in Fragrantica ?.
Best of luck with your UAE connection!
Myself, I am holding off for Paris- Edimbourg.
Emailed Chanel for a release date in US but couldn’t get one.
Is anyone else hearing all the fireworks in the evening?
I always worry about everyone’s pets.
Well coffee and a half English muffin down, off to shower and get to my desk.
Post shower maybe some JM Cade and cedarwood.
We don’t live anywhere close to each other, but I’ve been hearing random fireworks at night since lockdown started. Just random days, no rhyme or reason. You’re not alone!
we have fireworks going off here random nights..I don’t mind or care.
I’ve been getting fireworks too. I’m not a fan.
Thank you. I hear fireworks too and I am just glad that Billy Bob 2.0 and the 2 other kittehs cannot hear them. What is also increasing in frequency and which I thought was my imagination was the sound of racing cars at night. I confirmed it was not a figment of my imagination when the mayor mentioned introducing legislation of some type that would penalize garages for installing muffler noise enhancers. I think that fine should apply to DIYers too!
Funny that you mention racing cars at night, we were hearing people having sideshows down the street and it was loud!
Between sideshows, drag racing, and fireworks, I’ve gotten very little sleep the last few weeks. I’m a little frazzled. 🙂
Ha, maybe a weighted blanket can help!
Fireworks in my neighborhood since Memorial Day Weekend. It doesn’t help that Target sells them here. And Costco. ✨
If anyone can get a jumpstart on Le Lion, it’s you! Good luck ?
Ha! I think madtowngirl has a decant coming to her. It’s probably just my quirk but for the Les Exclusifs, I feel like it’s a lesser Exclusif?
I think it’s the name. It’s not fancy enough imo, lol.
Maybe we need to find a fancier name for decant.
I do! But it is just a small sample, not a hajusuuri size small sample.? If you get a bottle, will you be splitting?
Maybe!
That sounds like a perfume deal full of intrigue and espionage!
It may very well be. The most adventurous perfume shopping to date was for the Guerlain 190th Anniversary perfume, from Bergdorfs in NY to all other Bergdorfs to Paris over several months. It ended up being sourced from Saks in NY ??♀️?
In CA all the envelopes are the same color.
The word in Montréal is that Lion is coming in September. No news about Paris-Edimbourg.
Oooooooh if that is the case, my brain is scheming ….
I have never heard about color coded envelopes for “Vote By Mail” anywhere. Just the good old manila ones.
So the outside of mine is recycled white. The inside has 2 envelops: the yellow one that I’be seen for every ballot and then another one that I don’t ever recall being colored.
Curiouser and curiouser!
I don’t know the answer about the primary envelopes, but I’ve wondered as well.
Maybe a Le Lion split in the works??
Ha! Great minds think alike, see my comment above.
Ha – yep!
Perhaps!
Good for you Hajusuuri, Le Lion sounds like a nice change of direction for Chanel. I am
very excited about it.
I wish I could go live in a world that looks like today’s photograph, so serene and balanced and beautifully polished. All things bright and beautiful. On another note fireworks are common in many cities it seems.
Dear friends, I was awoken at 4:40 by my stupid cat banging on the glass sliding doors in the bedroom that lead out to the backyard. She added in some horrible growling noises that I’ve never heard her make. I was convinced she was dying, but the fiance thought quickly and turned on the outdoor lights, and we discovered that all her theatrics were just because a stranger cat was strolling through the backyard. Then my stupid cat hopped up on the bed asking for snuggles and pets, which I of course gave her because five minutes before, I thought she was making weird wailing noises because she was in so much pain or something.
At 7, we were woken up again by a crow banging on the skylight. So basically all the animals have gone nuts and no one wants me to get any sleep.
Nonetheless, I put on a spray of my brand-new decant of Vivacious, thanks to the wonderful hajusuuri, with whom I am twins. Maybe my nose is still half asleep, but mostly all I get is a giant blast of old-fashioned fusty violet. It does soften to a citrus after the first few minutes, but I missed out on the purported orris blast. I’ll give myself a booster spray later, when I’m less grouchy.
I’m sorry about the interrupted sleep! (But I’m still laughing a little! Sorry if that’s insensitive.) Cats have peculiar priorities at times. Can’t speak for the crows, although I did have one swipe me in the head with its wing a few weeks back while I was out for my daily walk. Seemed like it was trying to tell me something. Hope you have a caffeine source of preference to help you feel more wakeful and less grouchy!
It’s not insensitive at all! We’ve been incredulously laughing since it happened. An added note of bizarre hilarity: we were both convinced we saw a little pile of vomit next to her, but a few minutes later, after we saw the cat outside, we couldn’t find the vomit anymore. She is NOT a fast enough eater to have eaten up a pile of vomit (which, gross, but her brother did it once), so where did it go??? Was it ever even there?! How did we both see it if it wasn’t?
Crows have been getting more aggressive around here lately too (getting close to people on their walks). I’ve had my morning cup of coffee, and if I’m quite honest, what I now want is another cup of coffee.
I suggest you not inquire too deeply about the mystery of the missing pool of cat vomit. . .
Can you handle a second cup of coffee? Sadly, I can only manage my initial mug plus perhaps 1/4 more before I can feel it triggering the beginnings of a migraine. I usually switch to black tea for additional caffeine, but it’s almost never what I want in those moments.
Good point about not investigating, some times, ignorance is bliss…
Hehehe touche. I think I will chain drink green tea for the rest of the day to keep myself upright.
I imagine it is breeding season for your crows around now and they have to defend their nests from predators so will dive bomb anyone and anything that gets too close. ..and they have a quite large territory We have that problem with Australian magpies and it always pays scout out the nests ( crows return to,the same nest, I think) and avoid upsetting the birds. Wearing a hat for protection or carrying a stick that extends higher than your head ( so the bird can’t touh you as it swoops) if it gets dangerous!
Did you use 8 sprays? Sometimes, more is more.
Sorry about the sleep interruptions but the good news is “wildlife” is still of this world.
Yes, I found that more sprays gave a better result.
?
“Wildlife,” pah. That was no wild cat. It was someone else’s cat who likes adventuring at night 🙂
No, I just used one spray so my fiance would be willing to come near me. I’ll try two sprays next though!
LOL
Ok, I’ve now used two sprays and I do like it more, either because of the increased dosage or because my nose is less mopey now. It’s quite a gourmand violet now, with a lot of creamy orris. Still not sure it’s FBW (or even another-decant-worthy), but I am enjoying it!
Great! I would say try it again when you’re single for most of the day.
This is so funny. But I hope you get some sleep tonight!
Haha, this would’ve been funnier for me too if it had happened to someone else.
I’ve had my cats freak out when a “stray” kitty crosses our patio. Fortunately, that hasn’t happened for a while now, but the squirrels and chipmunks are still frequent visitors.
Hahaha. My cat doesn’t really react much to squirrels anymore!
Finishing a sample of Heleley Blanc Poudre, which could have gone head to head with 4160 Tuesdays Tart’s Knicker Drawer, which I;’d tried a year or so back. In both cases, fun but not for me.
Hiya! ? I don’t think I could wear, and admit to wearing, a fragrance called “Tart’s Knicker Drawer.” Maybe I’m just not playful enough?
Especially since “tart’s knicker drawer” is no complimentary phrase in England. A moot point, fortunately. Now wondering whether there has been a CP on Terrible Perfume Names.
We have done similar CPs but not exactly “terrible”.
Perfume house twins today! ?
Hey, those look like David Austin roses! I have a Jude the Obscure (peachy pink color) that I absolutely love–better fragrance than any other rose I’ve ever grown.
No SOTD, yet, as Wednesday is one of the mornings that I run. After my run and shower, I will need something light and clean smelling, to cut through the heat. Fico di Amalfi? Ninfeo Mio? Infusion d’Iris? Something along those lines, likely layerd over some BG body cream.
I don’t think they are, on the other hand, the only info I can find on them is other pictures with the name. I think they are a Chinese variety.
What perfume did you end up choosing?
Vepres Sicilliennes, which is a sorta classy, light fruity floral, and always feels “coconutty” to me even though it doesn’t list coconut in the notes. It is playing very nicely with the BG body cream I put on after my shower. 🙂
I love David Austin roses and I grow several, mostly in large pots. They are so fragrant!
Revisiting FM Carnal Flower. Tuberose is my nemesis and CF and Fracas are two bombs impossible for me to tolerate. Today CF has been behaving and after having 4 spritzes a couple of hours ago, I find it rather pleasant. I may eventually finish the small decant I have had for years. I am surprised it has not suffered from evaporation. It looks like it wants to stay with me…..
CF was my first tuberose love, but it snuck up on me. I first found that I loved it on other people, and then I was open to trying again on myself.
Despite CF being working pretty fair for me today, I don’t want to be so excited yet. I will keep trying it for the next couple of weeks and I hope to finally be able wear it. Fracas is a different issue. I tried it again yesterday and I had to scrub it off ?.
Fracas is the UR tuberose, for sure! I can see how it isn’t for everyone.
And after so many hours I am not sure anymore about Carnal Flower. I think it failed the test again ?
?!
We need to find you a tubey! I’m afraid of Fracas.
Isn’t Bvlgari Man In Black the tuberose perfume for people who don’t like that flower?
Yes because it doesn’t smell like tuberose ?
Good to know! I may need to look for a sample.
I still cannot believe I love Poison, despite not reaching for it anymore. I need to find a tuberose for spring/summer. So far I haven’t been lucky.
Hello NST, it’s been a while. For some reason I stopped wearing much perfume when I started working from home, even though it’s the perfect time to enjoy it. Trying to get back into it!
Today I’m wearing Cristalle, it is perfect as usual. This is one of the 3 bottles that my poor cat broke last year jumping onto a too-high shelf (never leaving bottles out of drawers again…) but I managed to decant some from the broken bottle!
Hey there! You smell fantastic!
You smell lovely! Cristalle is a favorite of mine. 🙂
Cristalle seems like a good way to ease back in!
Wearing no 19 edt today after wearing no 5 preshower. Need a little extra backbone today.
Good luck with your day, Dawn! You smell wonderful.
Thank you! I can never make up my mind of which formulation of no 19 the best.
Pssst ? EDP. ?
Most of the time, the edp is. 🙂
Oh, I dunno, all of them! I love different versions for various reasons but I love that iris scent all the same. 🙂 ?
Wearing Bronze Goddess today as I’d much rather be on a beach. What vacations are you all dreaming of?
any beach vacation would do..
Summer oftentimes lasts into November where I live. I’d love to go somewhere with a daytime high of 74 degrees. Anywhere.
All I want is for our camping plans for July 4th to work out! But actually, there is a beach involved – just not the kind with surfers and sunbathers. The campground is on the western edge of San Juan Island in the PNW. We camped there last year and loved it and would have loved it even without all the orcas that swam by but that was extra special.
Why would it not work out? Is it still COVID-closed?
Not sure what it’s looking like in the San Juans, but here in Oregon several of our more touristy beach towns have mayors asking that folks stay away. There have been COVID spikes in Lincoln County businesses and they’re struggling to get a handle on the spread.
It’s open at the moment and we have reservations. We would have to take the ferry but can stay in the car. We can bring everything we need with us, and wear masks in the bathroom. The campsites are far apart. But we’ll see what happens…with increasing cases, things may change.
We just got confirmation of our camping reservations for July 20th, I’m super excited. I hope you get to go!
Cape Cod & my sister’s lake house are the 2 big ones at the moment. Wish I could think of how I could drive 8 hours without stopping. Can’t do it!
I’m wearing AA Pamplelune this morning. My records say it’s been two years since I wore it last. It’s fading fast so I may respray or put another citrus over it.
24, Faubourg for me, and Robin you smell fabulous! Those roses are lovely – one of my roses is thriving right now (yellow floribunda) and the other … well, not so much. I think it might be on its last legs – most of the base looks ashy-grey-dead, and there’s only one live branch with a single blossom way up at the top. Too bad, because it was very pretty – creamy centers with bright fuchsia tips on the petals. Maybe if I fertilize it or something? Anyway, Happy Friday Eve Eve, everyone.
Hey Sheri!
I had very old roses at my last house, and one of them (an amazing, fragrant yellow rose) looked like it was going to die. I trimmed it way back and then proceeded to water it deeply once or twice a month all summer (putting a slow dribble from a hose at the root base for 10-20 min). It didn’t look great that year, but the following year it went gangbusters and revived itself. I do fertilize with rose food once a month, but I think when they’re struggling, water may be the bigger stressor, especially as we are having hotter and hotter summers.
Thank you! So you mean there’s hope? 😉 We’ve had so much rain (up to a couple of days ago) that I was beginning to wonder if it was TOO well hydrated … but then, the yellow one is very happy. I will cut the one existing bloom and put it in a bud vase, and then hack the thing back, fertilize, and hope for the best. 🙂
Yeah, watering roses is tricky business. They like infrequent, deep waterings much better than frequent, shallower ones. Rain also increases the risk of fungal infections, which my roses are really struggling with this year! Good luck! ? I hope you can save it.
I’m in VC&A Lys Carmin today, sample plink. Just when I think it’s run of the mill, I get a whiff of something very pretty and realize it’s the Lys. Hmmm, still don’t think I need any more of it.
I tried Cologne Noire last night, another VC&A, and liked that one a lot. It’s a little more ‘me’ than the gardenia from yesterday.
Oh oh! I tried Rose Velours yesterday also! DING DING DING! Beautiful plush rose. Really lovely, the best so far from this VC&A week.
Rained last night and more rain today. No walky for the Wild One. I’ll be making quiche, sorting clothes to give to the shelter and cleaning bathrooms today.
I have also tried Rose Velours and thought it was pleasant. For some reason, I am not able to tolerate strong rose fragrances like I use too. But for cooking and tea, I am ok with rose water and rose tea..
Its a shame because my neighbor brought me back a rose perfume from India last year. Its divine, but I can’t wear it.
You know, it’s funny. I love rose as a soliflore, as long as it’s plush and full. The lighter, airier roses are great when they have another note ‘beside’ it, like citrus pairing with the rose in Grace Coddington. Have you tried that one?
But I don’t care for vanilla as a soliflore, if you can call it such. I tried Tihota recently, and it’s a very realistic vanilla, but it’s just not enough. Organza Indecence is a vanilla that does it for me. Okay, I’ll stop yapping now.
LTSM – If you love rose water and rose tea, have you heard of Pure Rose? I add a drop or two to my tea, smoothie and yogurt (it’s particularly good with strawberries).

I have not..and trying hard not click on the link and online shop…
Testing 4 different OB’s that I got as additions to a sample of Vivacious (which of course is back ordered and won’t come til next week!) The winner so far is something called 001 by Bon Perfumeur, a citrusy cologne type OB, with lots of bergamont up top, seemed rather masculine to begin with, but is now of the light and refreshing orange blossom with orange peel, no soap, type scent. By itself it might be too light for me, but right now, it is making 2 of the other 3 tests seem heavy and cloying by comparison, and test number 4 is gone gone gone… I have gotten also samples of Azemour, which was lovely, but a little musk heavy for me on first sniff. I will give it a good days wear and see what I think then. California Reverie is very pretty, but didn’t quite ring my bell for some reason, perhaps again, first sniff out of a dozen quick sniffs, so I will give it a wearing by itself. I also got some Dilletante, which I put on after the LADDM faded yesterday, and it is very good, but not great on my skin, but I will try it again. I am now OB sample heavy. 🙂 A nice place to be….
What fun! And perfect for June.
Thanks Robin!
I’m cheating for some partial points 😉
Neroli Amara from Van Cleef & Arpels today.
That works!
Sort of CPing–in Vivacious (I suspect Hajusuuri’s splits landed in mailboxes across the continent yesterday!) I think Cazaubon was unimpressed with this one. I am enjoying it though. The scent does remind me of very fancy soaps–probably the carnation–although it isn’t soapy. I can pick up the iris, violets, carnation, and a juiciness that last night verged on grape juice, but not this morning for some reason (it didn’t bother me–it was just a facet).
Woo hoo! Scent twins!
I’m so waiting to try Vivacious!!
It wasn’t fantastic on me and my husband hated it. Glad it is working for others!
I hear you. My husband hated Dilettante, which I was wearing a couple of days ago (thanks to the Spitmeet as well!). And I own an FB of Shangri La, which gets very little love at all. At least we can say that HG doesn’t cater to pleasing everyone!
Thunked my sample of Angelique this morning, and feeling good about it!
Yay!
Wearing a dab of POTL Luctor et Emergo which I have just received. I think I prefer it in cool weather but it’s still pretty dang great. Splitees: I’ll be decanting and mailing this weekend!
Yum. An oldie but goodie.
I’m sort of copying Glannys in Opium edt, current version. I gotta tell ya, I’m a little disappointed. It’s still recognizable as Opium, but I did 4 sprays and it’s coming off pretty light and cologne like. It must have some added citrus. I’m finding it too masculine for my tastes. I will have to pick something else for work tonight, or maybe just douse myself in Orange Sanguine and go all out citrus ?
Or layer? How are the customers behaving? Any fallouts (read this however way you want to) from the closed fitting rooms?
It’s been incredibly busy. Sales are way up. People have been nice, but still piggish, by throwing their used masks on the ground and blocking up the toilets by flushing unflushables. We’ve had to kick people out of the bathrooms for trying clothes on in there. Tonight is my first night shift in awhile, fingers crossed it’s fine.
Best of luck. I just get so disappointed in the way people act sometimes.
I suppose a sign wouldn’t help, like the ones at Barnes & Noble (DO NOT BRING BOOKS INTO THE BATHROOM or something nicer). You may have to post someone by the restrooms!
Felt the same way about Opium. I used to wear it back in the day, and I remember it being just glorious on my skin. But, recent applications have not worked that well for me.
Good to know it’s not just me.
After hearing your comments about the current Opium EdT, I am glad that I grabbed an older-style bottle I found at ULTA when they first changed bottle styles.
Jalapeno, I thought the reports were exaggerated, but they are correct. You were very smart!
Still at my imaginary beach with Acqua di Sale, which has surprising longevity.
I harvested the first zucchini, so that’s all I will be eating the next weeks, I guess. The boyfriend planted 5 plants, he is a bit crazy. But as I am doing low carb at the moment, I can make lots of zoodles etc…
http://www.pinabausch.org/en/projects/collaboration-ecole-des-sables
I don’t know if you like dance but when I saw this I thought of you. It’s about a performance of Pina Bausch’s Rite of Spring that ended up being ‘staged’ on a beach in Senegal because of Covid. It is pretty cool.
I think that grilled zucchini are delicious, so that’s an option for your bumper crop.
We had our first homegrown zucchini yesterday, it was so good! I’m expecting a bumper crop too, I overplanted. Oh well! I have many places where I can share the excess. My one kale plant is going crazy; every time I harvest almost all the leaves, it quickly grows a new mass of them.
Hello, I’m still in the dumps, I think I’m having serious quarantine blues. Our Covid-19 cases are skyrocketing in Texas and Mom’s assisted living center has been doing repeated testing, only to learn that four of the workers there are positive. They have to stay home, obviously, until they have repeated negative tests. So far no residents tested positive. It scares me to death. The workers do have normal lives and interactions and even though I’m sure they’re all responsible, it’s just a fact that viruses spread. They were all asymptomatic except one woman whose only symptom was loss of taste and smell. There is so much mental health damage occurring too, for residents plus family members. In an effort to be a bit more upbeat I did some online shopping yesterday, so at least I’ve got some packages with brightly coloured summer clothes in the works. I also searched in my sample bins to find some U or V fragrances with not much luck. Also I did such a poor job of alphabetising! My librarian mother (who was a cataloging librarian) would be so ashamed of me! I have been very inconsistent about name conventions, sometimes putting things in by first names and sometimes last names, and sometimes a perfume inexplicably got put into a bin by its own name and not the perfumer name! So anyway I found Indult Manakara which I am wearing today. Usually I hate lychee as a note (and the fruits too!) but somehow this lychee-rose bomb is soothing today. I thought at first it was a plum scent which I do love. It’s VERY sweet and VERY rich and potent. I love these Kurkdjian productions! Later this afternoon I’m going to go pick up this week’s co-op share and hope I find some nice surprises in it–there usually are. I also ordered (extra) a dozen duck eggs! Can’t wait!
I am so sorry Calypso
Holding you and your mom in my heart
I wish I could come and get you and take you out with me for one of my morning walks , just to give you a brief break from quarantine. I am sorry that the situation is still so worrying .
Sorry for the stress and depression, I hope your goodies help cheer you up!
I’m so sorry to read this, I hope things improve soon.
Sorry to hear about your blues and blahs Calypso. Hugs.
Holy Moly, I’ve started three responses to you today, and each time I was pulled away and lost what I wrote. The summary is that I totally get feeling in the dumps, and the situation with senior living establishments is beyond nerve-racking. Sending you a huge hug!!!
I hope your feeling up again soon. I know it’s very stressful to have such worry for your mom.
Oh boy. I hope the co-op treasures helped!
I hope things improve soon. You smell great, though!
Lilac body mouse, topped by Elie Saab L’Eau Couture with Kiss me Intense.
Trying to figure out how to get a new charger for my Soda Stream and recycle the old for my usual 50% off. I usually just walk it up to Bed Bath, but they’re still only doing curbside. I may have to walk up and ask.
My husband actually got McDonald’s delivery. I guess when you have a craving, you have a craving.
For those of you in WI, I’m envious. Tried the Ciderboys Peach hard cider – so good! I want to try all their products.
I’m really hoping that you mean mousse 🙂
LOL, gotta love autocorrect. I’m now trying to envision a body mouse.
Well…too bad I didn’t bring the charger with me. Bed Bath is open for in-store shopping.
Huh, I don’t know that cider, but I am more of a Spotted Cow girl.?
They have all sorts of flavors. Out of Stevens Point. Recommend.
My Soda Stream is still in the box ?. I got it in March just before all the stores closed.
McDonald’s delivery made me laugh!
It’s so odd reading about people melting in the heat, while we’re in the middle of winter 🙂 It’s been a mild winter so far, but with a lot of rain, very grey and dreary.
I’m off to the office in Indochine this morning.
Have a good day! Been a bit frosty here recently but I think today will just be drab.
Well, today I woke up in the mood to wear all my perfumes. Just a little dab of everything, a perfume tasting menu. Yesterday was exceptionally grey: sky, sea, bare tree branches …all stark but then a flock of rosellas came into the garden, all vubrant green, yellow, blue, with red caps and chattered away. It was like Discovering an old black and white photo with hand coloured birds. Then later, my favourite bird, a damaged female blackbird that I call ‘the last bird of the night ‘ came to feed. This bird has a strangely droopy wing and can barely fly and gets pecked by the other birds but it has learned that if it arrives just as it is almost dark I will put out some apple for it and it can feed in peace. It has a very round head compared to the other blackbirds and bobs around a bit. I tend to worry when I don’t see it. Wearing Vierge de Fer for starters but as it’s 7am there is still time for more!
I so want to know what you end up wearing during the course of the day. Maybe the blackbird has a congenital defect of some sort.
I love this post. Some days I do wear lots of different things as time progresses through the day.
Your bird story touched my heart. Nature is beautiful but harsh. Thanks for taking time to feed it.
Wearing Amouage Beloved as I wanted to smell good and feel comforted. It worked. No CP points though. It’s been quite a tiring week, just two more days and then my work week is done.
You smell lovely. I agree it is a comforting scent. Hang in there!
no CP points for me either, I forgot what it was! had to go look up top to be reminded, and to see those beautiful roses again. 🙂
SotD = Gaultier Classique
Funny how I knew exactly where to find this sample. Sometimes I search high and low and can’t locate what I want to wear.
Today I can smell anise in Classique, don’t remember that from last time. Thank you to the kind NSTer who shared this scent with me.
Feeling foggy today, maybe I need to drink more water. 😉
Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday.
Or tea or coffee!
ha! tried water and iced green tea, they helped. 😉
Or lemonade? ?
oh goodness yes please! lemonade is one of my favorites. 🙂
Sampling two from Essential Parfums…Rose Magnetic and The Musc.
The former is tropical rose and the latter is strong, clean baby diaper so far. ?
Oh darn. I know that clean baby diaper smell. Better than dirty diaper, I guess, but no thanks.
Yes, dare I say a scrubber. 🙁
Eeeeeeeeeeeek! Clean or dirty, no thanks for diaper smells!
Same!
Today I decided to play around in the sample stash.
SOTD = Heeley Cardinal EdP. It’s another photo-realistic Catholic Church Mass incense. Strongly reminds me of Avignon. However almost any incense still works for me in the heat of summer. ?
You’re becoming the incense queen!
I’ve always enjoyed the smell of incense. Would you believe that I have only 2 full bottles of incense perfume in the perfume wardrobe? I’m slacking a bit there, aren’t i?
Try Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures, longer lasting than Cardinal, less insistent than Avignon, which my husband damns with his faint praise comment “Well that just wears on and on doesn’t it?” LLDH is the perfect balance for me anyway. Along with Tiger’s Nest, and my special homemade incense oil, I am set for incenses these days.
Dental appt today which went well, thankfully! The first time on the subway since March 11 and I’m happy to report it went just fine. The city is still crazy quiet and slow-moving. Very pleased to see 9 out of 10 wearing a mask.
SOTD: JM Vetiver & Golden Vanilla, still going strong from 2 sprays at 8 in the morn. Very tonka-focused scent with a veil of citrus & vetiver. Overall I quite like it and grateful for Hajusuuri for hosting the split.
Yay for an easy trip on the subway and a good dental check up!
That makes me hopeful. My company is treading very very slowly…
Same. CEO said, we will not be leaders in this one area. Lol. Plus, we are completely an open plan space sitting right next to each other. That isn’t going to work anymore.
Un Jardin Sur la Lagune today. Happy memories of visiting Venice, which I hope to do again some day.
Same! But I probably will never go again, since there are so many places I have not been even once.
Pretty rose picture. 🙂 Like Marjorie Rose said above, I thought the rose looked like a David Austin English rose. ‘Teasing Georgia’ put on quite a show this year. I didn’t take pictures of my roses this year, but I have pictures from other years.
Apparently I missed a good thread today so I will read this now.
Yesterday I played with Peau d’Espagne again, one arm solo the other layered with jasmine which was fun. The dry down of this one is so pretty. The first few minutes of the opening are growing on me. Then post bike ride I had a good hit of LAddM! Today Cristalle!
