Well, it's Almost-Friday. Plus, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development and World Meditation Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L’Artisan Parfumeur Traversée du Bosphore.
Reminder: 5/22 will be World Goth Day — get your goth on! (Need help? Here's the wikipedia page on Goth subculture.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi all, my SOTD is Mila Schön, from about mid-1980’s. I would describe this is a juicy Floriental with plenty of depth. Juice was a dark amber and very thick. *thunk*
I’ve been making random recipes from my grandmother’s cookbook. This week’s favorite recipe was New England Spider Cake. It’s a hit with the hubby, he’s requested that I make it again.
Headed out for my walk, coffee consumed, shoes on and I’m ready to go.
I switched it up this morning, no toast but at baci di dama with my morning coffee…
Enjoy your walk..
Thanks! I’m back! 😀
Those cookies look delicious!
Now I have an idea for amaretto cookies with Nutella filling.
😈
HAHAHA!
That sounds fabulous SmokeyToes. I am sure you smell wonderful. I don’t know what spider cake is but the name makes me think of dark streaks throughout the cake. Is it a fruit or chocolate stripe in the batter?
Perhaps a simple dump in the ingredients and bam! Cake?
SOTD is California Reverie.
Twins!
?twin!
Hi Angela,
Here’s a recipe from Food52. I think the spider reference is that the cast iron pan used for cooking has feet on the bottom. It should be noted that I HATE spiders, I lived in FL for 20 years, they grow them BIG out there!
https://food52.com/recipes/32626-new-england-spider-cake
Thank you SmokeyToes. My mouth is watering from that photo. I have bookmarked this, there are so many delicious recipes that I have discovered thanks to NST’ers. Some I will save for the holidays because they are decadently delicious and fattening.
I so enjoy Florida, and want a pet iguana but
I am NOT a spider fan either and I NEVER want to meet an alligator. It’s funny how I love the water but don’t dare go in it. Don’t you miss the ocean?
I live one block from Ocean Beach in SF, I see the Pacific ocean from my apartment. You can see my (Richmond district) neighborhood here:
Nothing against the flyover states, but I couldn’t live inland. I’ve always lived on the water.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NekJga7rMlg
You are so lucky! I long to be near the ocean, especially being in the desert. Luckily, a plane ride to the coast is cheap from here and hope to see some waves before too long!
Thanks Omega!
I live close to Sutro Park, we hear and see coyotes and all sorts of wildlife. It’s quite amazing all things considered.
I’m in the North Bay and totally agree with you. In my 44 years I’ve lived on 2 continents, in two countries, two US states, 7 US counties, but never more than 30 minutes from the Pacific Ocean. It’s hard to imagine not being so close to big water…
What a beautiful video. You found a lovely perch! Incomparable.
Thanks, SmokeyToes, immediately pinned. I found another version on Kitchn, but your version looks less fussy. I have some maple sugar hoarded; think I’ll bust it out for this cake. ?
I add a touch of vanilla extract to the heavy cream filling.
Around the holidays, I also add a touch of rum extract and substitute dark brown sugar, it turns it up a notch.
I’m wondering what it’d taste like if I added a super ripe mashed banana with the filling….
See where I went with that??
Mmmm, I’d add some muscovado brown sugar with the banana.
I noticed one of the commenters saying she successfully made half a recipe. I think I’ll need to do that. ?
Wow, now doesn’t that sound delicious?
I was late getting started today, and rather than look at my discovery sets I just grabbed something off my nightstand. It turned out to be 4711 AC Myrrh & Kumquat.
Kumquat! I love the smell of the skin. We had a tree, well more of a bush, next to our driveway in the house where I grew up. I used to peel them just for the scent. At some point my mom had it cut down–one of those 80s overhauls of the house and yard that got our “natural light and clean lines” into Sunset magazine. (Insert rolling eyes imoji here!) Oh well.
Oh wow, Sunset magazine! That’s WAY cool!
I always love their recipes.
PdN Eau d’ete today. My husband says it smells like a dentist’s office, and I see his point, but it’s good and lime-y today.
I love Eau d’ete. I find it very comforting. You smell great!
That’s a very nice one. I drained a bottle some years back over a summer.
I would definitely consult a dentist if their office smelled like Eau d’Eté!
Exactly!
Ha, me too.
Joining AngelaB in California Rêverie. Makes me want to go outside and enjoy the fresh, cool air here.
Took a walk up along the East River yesterday. Lots of folks out. Was highly entertained by a group of middle-aged men friends standing and chatting (I was sitting nearby, reading). One in a suit, drinking a beer. Others in shorts, one in a muscle shirt who had brought some exercise stuff. All had masks, but wearing them to varying degrees. No idea how they knew each other.
As I walked, the elastic on my mask broke. No worries. I wound the elastic around the post of my earring. That’ll work.
The main irritation was the folks on bikes. Some were fine, but others were going way too fast in too narrow lanes that handle walkers, runners and riders. Wish those wanting to speed would move to the bike lane on 1st Ave. Frankly, I wish they all would.
East River…do you live near there? If that is not too private of a question..
Just about 1.5 miles below Carl Schurz in Sutton area. So, I walk up and enter the promenade at 60th generally. I didn’t intend to walk all the way up yesterday, but I did and then sat on a bench to read. It’s a nice, almost 3 mile round trip.
The bike thing seems to be the case everywhere. We hiked at the beach and in a big urban park/forest on the west side of the city over the weekend, and in both cases there were cyclists trying to race on shared paths. If they’re trying to break speed records, they should be on the street, not on narrow forest trails meant for hiking. Grr. (Ok, rant over! 🙂 )
I miss those walks along the rivers in NYC. I spent a nice, but hot, summer there once, and I hiked everywhere, even the length of the island one Sunday, on a dare from a friend.
Summer in NYC. Ugh. We refer to those walks as The Manhattan Death March…usually taken when friends come to visit. We know someone who looped the entire Manhattan Island once. Crazy.
Growing up in NY before AC was a common thing always brings to mind ” Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck gettin’ dirty and gritty” by the Lovin’ Spoonful.
I can smell going to the Worlds Fair in 64 and long drives home from Asbury Park with all the windows down in the Ford station wagon.
SOTD is a touch of OJ Ta’if.
Both my mom and a former coworker did a loop of the whole island–one day a year a group called the Shorewalkers do it. It’s called The Great Saunter, and they always stop for lunch in my neighborhood park, so I see them each year.
I am interested in the middle aged man with a suit! Lol.
I’d post the photos I took on Instagram if they had masks pulled up. Seems his suit wasn’t the norm for him, based in the joking.
My today’s choice for the CPis John Galliano John Galliano – incense, plummy rose, aldehydes, violet.
Ohhh, glorious. Galliano is pretty quirky stuff. 😀
Hermes Galop, I was inspired by NancyL & Lucaisai to pull out some Hermes for something sheer and if it doesn’t last I can switch to something else.
And I’m still on a Hermès jag. House twins! ?♀️
No Hermes for me today but you smell lovely
SOTD: Sexual Pour Homme (Michel Germain). Just because. 🙂
Always a good enough reason.
Wearing Ormonde Jayne Woman for the 7th or 8th day straight, thanks to Missionista who so kindly sent me decants!
It is sooooo comforting and contemplative at the same time. It smells like wind and sunshine and open, safe outdoor space to me. I really love it.
World Meditation Day! There’s a great app for learning meditation called “WAKING UP”, if anyone wants to try meditation. Out of all of the apps I’ve ever downloaded for any reason, this one is in my top 10. There’s a “course” that “teaches” you how to meditate. It takes about 10 minutes per day and you can do it at your own pace. There are also great discussions about life, mindfulness, Buddhism, psychology. It’s not self help. I would call it self discovery? The meditation course is nice since it basically teaches you how to do several kinds of meditation, just by trying it for 10 minutes per day. If anyone wants a free 30 day invite, click my avatar for my email.
I’m not affiliated with this app, by the way. Just mentioning it for World Meditation Day.
I have been using 10% Happier. There are so many meditation apps now! Always glad to hear about another.
Hi all!
On my way to get tested, just about out the door. I don’t feel any symptoms at the moment but someone I’ve helped is waiting on their results and seems pretty ill. Cross your fingers!
I’m wafting Cedre Sambac at the moment, as I did yesterday. Mulling over a new post on Instagram about it. Doesn’t hurt that I ardently love it.
As soon as I get back, I’ve got a loaf destined for the oven. I got some new flour and can’t wait to see how it holds together.
Be safe!
I hope everything comes up fine and you get a negative result. Fingers crossed!
I’ll be hoping for the best, Coumarin!
Me, too!
Big hugs to you, Coumarin! Hoping for negative results.
Positive thoughts and hugs sent your way, Coumarin!
What is your new kind of flour, if you don’t mind my asking?
Hoping it will all be well!
You smell great Coumarin! Best wishes to you.
Hoping for best!
I hope all is well!
all the best to you
And please let us know!
keep us posted
Hope you will be tested negative
It’s good to go get tested but nervous-making, I’m sure. I hope you are negative and that your friend is all right or will be.
Good luck with the test!
Oh golly!! Best of luck with your test results!
Fingers crossed and good vibes sent your way! ??
Hoping for good results!
Fingers very tightly crossed for both your results and your loaf!
Wishing you the best!!
Best of Luck Coumarin. Which one are you doing? I did the antibody test last week.
Stay healthy.
In Dior Diorissimo today. I had forgotten about it. One of my favorites spring scents.
Bright and sunny day despite being pretty cool. Looking forward to enjoy a couple of hours outside while taking my doggy to his follow-up appointment early this afternoon. He has shown some improvement since last night. I think he is bouncing back. ??
In my second cup of coffee sprinkled with cardamom and a toast with PB&J.
Happy almost Friday, everyone!
Oh I hope he is bouncing back! Today is a good day for him to get better! You also smell wonderful so that’s a good omen, too! ;D
Lots of !! in my post – hope that’s also a good sign? lol
Thank you, Springpansy! ?
I have (and love) Diorissimo; you are smelling wonderful!
That’s very good news about your puppy! Enjoy your afternoon☀️
Thank you, Gail! ?
impressed with your cardamon coffee..and toast! Can I come over?
Always welcome!☕ ??
You smell great!
You smell great!
Thanks! ?
Diorissimo is gorgeous!
Isn’t? So beautiful!
Yay for your dog doing better. I think I will add cardamom to my coffee tomorrow … just a smidgen this time.
Thank you, Hajussuuri!
Just a bit of cardamom in the coffee is perfect. Otherwise, it becomes overwhelming.
Sounds yummy 🙂 maybe I will try it tomorrow, too!
Enjoy! ☕
I’m wearing Après l’Ondée, hoping for some rain. It’s incredibly dry outside. Lovely and sunny yes, but we really need some water.
Tea was a high end first flush Darjeeling this morning, have since switched to Festin d’Or, one of my favourite MF’s.
You smell wonderful Robin, Traversée is really nice. You seem to be wearing a lot of Artisans this week.
I am doing an LAP week, yes, and you smell fantastic too! And I will happily cede to you the rain we’re expecting for the next 2 days 🙂
+1 and two thumbs up for LAP week! 😀
SSS Winter Woods here. Cool and damp. I sort of pray-meditate daily, but not following any particular guidelines.
Who needs guidelines?
You smell fantastic!!!!!
Soooo good!
SOTD: Eau des Sens by Diptyque
Sunshine all week and I’m so grateful! What a difference the sun and blue sky makes.
Seriously! Going for a walk today soothed body and spirit. I even saw Lilly of the Valley growing!
Wearing Shalimar edc today and of course I smell wonderful 🙂
Yes, you do!
Hello friends, anti-Goth today in the dregs of my Ginger Piccante. I sparkle.
I’ve grown pretty enthusiastic about sandwiches ever since the spectacular fishwiches I mentioned on NST last week. I baked a sourdough focaccia (using my starter as yeast source instead of commercial yeast, because of course I have a pet starter now) that was AMAZING–all the tastiness and convenience and low effort of focaccia, all the flavor of a well-fermented sourdough. Honestly the sourness shined through better in this low-hydration setting than in actual sourdough.
Anyway! Sandwich 2 was a BLAT (bacon lettuce avocado tomato) with garden-grown lettuce, and sandwich 3 was a magnificent grilled cheese-style sandwich with habanero jam, spiced tomatoes, and chorizo. And now we are out of focaccia again. Oops.
Mmm…I shall be over for lunch. 🙂
Absolutely! I think working from home all the time has made me get this lunch thing DOWN!
We love BLATs. Out of lettuce, and thought I might use spinach to make one. So that’s a BAST? BATS? These (and your fish sando) all sound great.
STAB? 😉
Ha!
If you added arugula, it could be BASTA. 😀
So many great naming possibilities!
Ooh you’re giving me nice sandwich ideas! I’m trying vegan bacon and so far find it rather middling if eaten on its own, but more passable in my breakfast burrito with egg and salsa.
Mmm I bet there are lots of ways to make vegan bacon not only palatable but a strong, contributing member of foods. Let us know if you find any great sandwich combos with the vegan bacon!
Basics Market has a BLT recipe online dor making your own tofu bacon that really works.Part of fhe tofu marinade is liquid smoke.
That BLAT sounds divine! Especially with all that fresh produce you have! ???
I’ve been loving the fresh produce 🙂 I’m especially enjoying the sweet tomatoes that have just started coming out! You can really taste the difference.
Oh man. It’s a good thing I already ate dinner. Habanero jam sounds fantastic.
You will truly be dangerous to my waist line. I love to bake sourdough breads too- so glad it is bringing you such happiness and inspiration. I had to get a starter as there was no yeast to be found anywhere.. nor flour. God bless Amazon. Our life-line.
Ooh you found a starter on Amazon?? Wow! I grew my own starter. The wild yeast around here have been doing great. It took us a long time to get yeast or flour, too 🙁 I hope you have since managed to find those, and that you are enjoying your breads! (I have had to increase my exercising substantially to make up for all the baking I’m doing.)
Woke up this morning in my older bottle of no 5 (2009-ish) and did some cleaning and organizing since my aunt is coming tomorrow and it’s my mom’s birthday tomorrow. Will finish the rest after I get off work. Wearing a dab of vintage no 5 right now. I was goofing off after work and it looks like Andy Tauer is shipping full bottles to the US again…but it’s too late to cancel my Luckyscent order since it shipped last night.
Hermesessence Brin de Reglisse, which is a meditative scent for me. I wear it to relax, sleep, wind down.
It’s wonderful, a lot of Hermessences are great for meditation, they seem to invite the wearer to slow down and reflect.
I’m in Jour d’Hermes Absolu this morning. Citrusy gardenia and surprisingly wearable on me!
I was able to sniff a magnolia blossom on my walk this morning. It was just on the cusp of being in full bloom. The citrus, creamy floral was so intense and beautiful.
Lovely.
Hey Hermes twin, I did some reading on the Hermes Jardin scents and I think I remember smelling some at Sephora when I saw the bottles. They are not very long lasting if I remember. I am going to re-visit when (if) stores open
Yes, they don’t last too long, but they’re so well done, even the ones I don’t like as much. I hope your stores open for you soon.
Yes, I was reading about Sur le Nil, is that the one your recommended?
Their light lemon scent is so divine!
So many of the trees around here are so tall! I finally found one with blossoms at my height.
I smelled a magnolia blossom today too. It was heavenly. 😀
Smelling fabulous in SS Blackburn’s Parlor and about to have a 2nd cup of Philz Silken Splendor.?☕️
Ah, Philz! That’s one of the things I really miss from my California days. Getting a mocha tesoro is such a treat when I go back and visit.
My coffee this morning was Philz Tantalizing Turkish. Yum.
Wearing Cuir Soyeux from Francesca Bianchi today.
It’s a floral-powdery leather. I get a lot of magnolia, iris, leather, smoke and vanilla. Nice & pretty!
That’s the one I don’t have a sample of!
Aaaannnnddd, that’s been added to the sample list.
I will go shopping with you MissGoldSmith!
In Bogue O/E this morning; got a bunch of Bogue samples from Luckyscent with the bottle of Mem my spouse bought me, so I’m working my way through them. This one is nicely constructed so far, but it’s not quite “me”. The only one I’ve disliked is OOOH so far, and that’s more on me than the perfume. It smells like bug spray on me — not figuratively, but literally. All I could think about was summer camp as a kid the whole time I had it on.
I put in my order for peonies so will get some on the weekend (flower sellers are no longer allowed at the farmers’ markets, which are defined as an essential service for groceries, so can’t sell anything else). I love peonies!
And maybe I’ll be inspired to meditate today! I have Headspace, I’ve been an intermittent meditator over the years, but somehow it never occurs to me to just take the time and DO it.
I love peonies too! I bought a bouquet at the store recently that are like fine china, white with the most delicate pink tinting. Their smell is so heady-spicy, too.
I wish that peonies would be used in landscaping more often.
Hurrah for MeM! My Top Five.
I’m wearing Lush Ginger from the solid that I recently got with the shower gel order.
It’s sitting pretty close to the skin and is a non-intrusive version of Ginger. May have to open up the shower gel tonight.
What kind of ginger are you smelling from the solid perfume: fresh, dried, or candied?
I’d say probably dried. It’s a bit smoky and spicy when you first put it on (which is ok with me).
Oh no, there’s a LUSH Ginger? Now I’ll have to go smell it. I LOVE ginger!
In Shay & Blue’s Blood Orange from a recent StC decant sale. Bitter and sweet. I’ve been pretty much radioactive in my perfume since the lockdown began—copious amounts of amber, oud, saffron, patchouli type perfumes. Today I am venturing out to Walnut Creek, about a 30 minute drive from our house without traffic—the farthest I’ve been from this house since February. Taking my son to a routine, but mandatory hospital visit. So my perfume has to be minimal. Hoping this one mellows by this afternoon when we head out. I was told I would get a call from a nurse the day before, yesterday, for a detailed pre-visit health check. No call. Not sure if that means things are getting looser, or just getting sloppy. Masks and gloves will be donned!
Hope it goes well. Enjoy the road trip. And I hope traffic is easy.
We used to live not too far from John Muir on Ygnacio. I still have the Kinders BBQ near there send me their dry rubs. A little taste of CA in NY.
Exactly that area! The newish (not new at all really) outpost of Children’s Hospital is off Ygnacio on Lennon Lane. I’m looking forward to the views of Mt. Diablo. Sunny and blue skies today. It should be beautiful.
Oh that’s right near where I lived! Just off Oak Grove closer to Treat. I loved the Saturday farmers markets there. The new Safeway and Whole Foods went in not too long after I moved. I miss that area. (If your son is at all into comic books, the comic book store might still be there. Around the corner from the Trader Joe’s and Baskin Robbins on Treat.)
Oooh, lived in Lafayette and in Martinez, right by John Muir House on Alhambra Avenue. BART only went to Concord in those days.
Hope your outing was pleasant and that the hospital took good care of both of you today. Mt Diablo is amazing.
My big trip for the day was a drive to Trader Joe’s. To celebrate an uneventful grocery run I came home, unpacked, decontaminated myself, and ate some chocolate. And then I had a little more, and more again, and then ate altogether more chocolate than I knew I was capable of eating in one day. Oops 😀
I’ve tucked into my chocolate stash quite a bit lately, too. ?
I’m nibbling on hazelnut spread M&Ms as we speak.
um, oh dear me oh my, hazelnut + chocolate in a cute candy shell? yes, please! 😀
and please don’t anybody remind me there are caramel m&m’s, they were my undoing at Easter when there were pastel colors. 😉
I finished off my second batch of bread pudding which probably had more chocolate than bread ?. To my credit, I split the entire batch into 6 pieces and it took me a week to get down to nothing.
more chocolate than bread, made me lol, and sounds delicious.
make it last! when it comes to chocolate that is *usually* my modus operandi. 😉
You had bread pudding for a WEEK? Wow! I am not as disciplined as you; I inhale it as quickly as possible 🙂
SOTD is Tam Dao. It has been raining here lately, and I happened to look out the back window and saw that the peonies are bursting riotously into bloom, but because they are a heavy flower and now are very wet, most were close to (or actually on) the ground. So I went out and cut long stems of them to put in a vase in the kitchen. They’re so fluffy! And peony leaf should be a note in perfumery if it isn’t already.
You smell GREAT!
Thank you! So do you – Ta’if is gorgeous.
Tam Dao – u smell great! Enjoy the flowers!
peonies + Tam Dao, a double happiness! 😀
I don’t think I’ve ever really smelled peony leaves! I have peony plants but no flowers (yet). I will have to try rubbing them. Thanks for the tip!
Nice to have a good excuse to cut peonies! I always feel mean when I cut them.
I know what you mean – I feel like they should be left on the plant too. But they’re so floppy outside, and so pretty inside!
Me too Robin, they are just beautiful works of art! Even when imperfect they look perfect. The rain can really damage them and I feel no guilt if I cut them beforehand. Do you have a peonie perfume you really love? I prefer them in nature for some reason.
No, have never liked what they call peony in perfume…
I really love the fragrance of oranges. Has anyone tried Lancome Oranges Bigarades? (I don’t always like tea scents and apparently this is one.)
Any other fragrance with fresh orange to recommend? I love the opening of Hermes Eau de Merveilles, but I don’t love the drydown. Didn’t love Malle’s Bigarade – sweaty orange.
Me too. Am testing one today in fact. But my favorite orange perfume is Azemour les Orangers, and favorite orange cologne is Hermes’ Eau d’Orange Verte.
Seconding Azemour – it has fresh orange, but also orange leaf, orange flower, orange tree bark, a little orchard dirt, and the moss around the base of the tree. The full experience. 🙂
Third voice for Azemour.
Plus adding a suggestion of Ormaie Les Brumes
4th!
Yes, Lancome Oranges Bigarades is a very nice scent. It brings to mind the way the steam off a cup of tea smells. I smell lots of vanilla, orange and almost a mint smell. I don’t know if this matters, but I get lots of compliments when I wear this.
Seconding Hermes Eau de Orange Vert and adding Chanel Paris-Riviera for a summer and Jo Malone Orange Bitters for a wintery orange.
I really enjoy the top notes of Atelier Cologne’s Orange Sanguine. ?
oh goodness yes, orange sanguine has the best orange top notes ever. 🙂
Seconding (thirding) this!
Sotd is a wrist to wrist comparison – on my left, St. Clair Casablanca, on my right, DSH Vers la Voute Etoilee…
To me St. Clair Casablanca is Le Maroc pour Elle’s sophisticated cousin, who comes from the same village originally, but through sheer luck, escaped to a nice boarding school on the Swiss/French border, and is now back home in a professional position of the very pretty, hard driving, make an appearance, take over the room and get things done sort. When I wear this by itself, I just love it. This is a very smooth flowery oriental chypre perfume, and the little 30 ml bottle is so cute, I really want one on my perfume tray.
But, in comparing it to DSH Vers la Voute Etoilee, the DSH wins big. To my nose, on my skin, it smells better immediately, and continues to just smell better, and more, as the day wears on. Vers la Voute Etoilee means Toward the Starry Vault, and the blurbs say many of the flowers are of the night blooming sort, and Dawn spent 4 years developing this, and it shows in the complexity and quality of the result. Every time I sniff my wrist, it is slightly different, and still fabulous. The French name is so clunky and hard for me to remember, even when I just love this, that I think this perfume slips from notice and memory and doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. This is also a modern chypre, heavy on white florals, with a nice dose of carnation coming to the fore now and then, which is probably part of why I like this so much, but now, 6 hours and several handwashings after first application, VLVE is still strongly floral, with herbal and resinous underpinnings, while Casablanca has retreated a mildly sweet quiet incense with floral suggestions, very pretty in it’s own right, but it is just outclassed by the VLVE. If you like the more is more approach to perfumes, and need a really pretty, really grownup fragrance, check this out. I have a tiny rollerball sample of the extrait and a 3 ml spray of the EDP, which I combined for this wearing. If I were looking for a signature scent, this would be it. As it is, it has caused me to put my beloved Mitsouko away for a while…
So happy I did this immediate comparison. I am adjusting the order of my To Buy list as a result…
You have definitely talked me into trying the DSH!
?
Both of those perfumes sound lovely!
What a fabulous review. I love Casablanca – and your clever description of it and now MUST try DSH.’s VLVE.
Thank you very much for sharing Meredifay.? I must have some of this.
I will be interested to hear if you have the same experience as I have with this scent.
Santa Maria Novella Colonia Russa is my SOTD. I am very excited because I am getting a pedicure today. My salon opened on Tuesday.
Oh Yay!! enjoy that treat!
I walked out the front door yesterday for work and ten feet away, smack dab in the middle of the drive we’re two wild turkeys. Up close and personal, I never realized they were that big! Or maybe they just were some mammoth subspecies..? All of us were so startled, we squawked.
Thunked Anima Dulcis today.
Egad. Hopefully T-Rex didn’t attempt to engage them in play … or in any way at all, really.
Oh, she would have loved to! But, she was in her crate as I was leaving for work.
Wild turkeys here (yes, they do live in South Jersey suburbs!) are big enough that the first time I saw one, I wondered how well it would fly. The answer is: quite well, thanks! ?
Ha! I would like to see one on the wing- just can’t picture that bulk overcoming gravity. They are quite serious looking in that they look like they could seriously mess you (or your doggo!) up.
Looking forward to your big perfume reveal! ??
Beware! They have been known to terrorize communities.
https://www.citylab.com/life/2019/11/wild-turkey-where-live-population-how-many-cities-suburbs/602563/
SOTD is Joy EDT, the real Jean Patou Joy. I smell pretty fancy while I’m doing my gardening! I have a day off work today, which is so great. Getting a lot done in the garden and house. In bloom in my garden right now are some wonderfully fragrant flowers: Magnolia grandiflora, gardenia, roses. White lilies are about to blossom. I’ve been pinching tomato suckers and my hands smell like tomato leaf! When Joy wears off, I think I’ll put on some of St. Clair Scents’ “Gardener’s Glove”, which has a great tomato leaf note.
Joy in the garden sounds like a dream come true. You smell wonderful. 😀
SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT + Infusion d’Amande
yay for World Meditation Day! Mindfulness is important to me. I shall yoga my inner voice into quiet submission later this afternoon. My teacher has put a few lessons online for past students to enjoy, her voice is so soothing.
I’m doing Adriene’s 30 days again, when I finish that series I’ll check out her newer 30 days at home videos. She’s adorable.
I like the two Infusions together, though I’ve got on more Iris, just a touch of Amande. I found an old decant of Amande that had evaporated down to syrup, so I added a little alcohol and gave it a good shake. Turned out fine. 😀
Looking forward to a dose of Goth tomorrow. I have no idea what to do, perhaps I’ll shamelessly copycat someone.
Hope your almost-Friday is fantastic, fragrant friends. You smell lovely.
That’s a nice Prada fusion of Infusions 😉
aw, thank you, lucasai 😀
fusion of Infusions,
you’re so very clever!
Like you, I’m not too sure what to do about the CP.
lol, I hope to learn something new tomorrow 😉
maybe I’ll imagine what scent would Siouxsie Sioux wear,
or what did the 1980s smell like?
?
Patchouli + rose would be a good start, if you are stuck.
and the darker the better, eh? or so I would imagine. 😉
Or something with loads of oakmoss?
Wearing Commodity Nectar today.Such a lovely short lived scent for spring.
imagining you smell wonderful – lovely, short lived, and spring describe many of my favorite scents 😀
Thank you!
Wearing Le Labo again, this time it’s Bergamote 22.
Ahhh, that’s a nice one. You smell great!
Oh, I like that one!
I started this almost hot day with Kenzo l’Eau for the first time this year, I’m still fond of this 90’s scent which I started wearing in 1997 and this evening changed to Bvlgari Au The Rouge, figgy, nutty, I had missed it but this weather is all wrong, we need rain.
It seems that when I do my rain dance for you lately, I get the rain here. ?☔
Singing too maybe ?
And it’s gotten colder again and I turned my heater back on yesterday.
Wore Camelia Chinois for some gardening. We watered our zucchini and pumpkins and seeded some beans. Tomatoes will be planted this weekend.
I made a new dress today that I will wear to work tomorrow. Made aubergine rollups with tomato sauce and mozzarella for dinner.
gardening + sewing + cooking + dining at home = heaven
my nextdoor neighbor invited me to pick tomatoes from her garden yesterday, they are delicious. you have good eating ahead of you 😀
Thank you all for your expressions of sympathy for Bertie yesterday. Today I am wearing Stash. I admit to some stress buying lately and will have confessions for Donatella in July. So far I’ve bought some Paco Rabanne La Nuit parfum, Heeley Chypre 21, and 2 mls of Prada Infusions d’Oeillet. Trying not to buy the Prada Iris Absolue.
Sorry for your loss. Bertie sounded great. How is the Prada Oeillet? I am always on the lookout for a new carnation…
Bertie’s not dead yet, just terminally ill. The Oeillet’s on the way. I’ll let you know my impressions when it arrives. I’m hoping for spicy.
You are among friends with the stress buying ???
Yep. This!
Bertie was truly loved. I’m so sorry.
Joining you in admitting to stress buying.
After a very, very long stretch of no buying,
at last a package is coming to my house tomorrow.
I’m calling it my half birthday present to myself so I can feel a little less sheepish about it.
So sorry to read of Bertie Wooster’s diagnosis. I hope you find a little bit of comfort that he’s not in pain.
Sending gentle hugs to Bertie
My SOTD is the Chanel Esclusif “Boy”. I have been trying to wear perfumes that I forget I have. This is one of them. I am enjoying it and should wear it more often.
Good project, I should try that.
I’m doing goth big-time in T-Rex! Blood, meat, smoke, bring on the ?♀️ vampires!
For breakfast I made French toast with blueberries and real maple syrup. It was yummier than yum! You can see here:

I had to make my Instagram private due to incessant male harassment by no doubt Brazilian or Nigerian scammers all posting the same set of four photos of themselves and claiming to be doctors or soldiers. Why didn’t anyone warn me? Ugh. If anyone on here wants to follow me though that is of course fine, let me know.
You can block them if you want to remain public. If you do that for a couple weeks, there will be a massive decrease if not total absence of that type of spam arriving in your feed.
That French toast! ?
Echoing Deva on that French Toast! And adding that your IG photos are always very artistic and so beautiful to look at.
Sorry that even Instagram can get hacked; I hope you don’t have any more problems with it.
What Deva said. I tend not to get DMs though, just stupid comments.
LOL!
Dabbing on a sample of Mohur. I tried it a few years ago and recall quite liking it, but it gets so many favourable comments that I thought I’d better try it again in case I didn’t fully appreciate it first time around.
My first venture into the office yesterday was a but strange to start with, I’ve got so used to working from home, but it was great to see a few people in person. We’re still keeping the numbers in the office as low as possible, so I’ll be at home for the next few days, then go in again for a day next week.
How are you liking Mohur now?
Wearing poet’s jasmine for a lovely spring day. Thursdays (along with Mondays) seem to be the most difficult days for kid-wrangling and online schooling. We needed medicinal milkshakes by the time it was all over. Things are better now.
Glad it all settled down! My day also called for a medicinal milkshake — compensated with a little ice cream this evening.
hmmm, what are these medicinal milkshakes you speak of? valium-flavored, perhaps? 😉
Looks like the roofers might be working on the roof of my townhouse tomorrow, weather permitting. Here’s hoping it isn’t too bad.
SOTD = Soivohle Dog Star Cologne, from the sample stash. It’s the opposite of goth… a light, pretty patchouli with floral notes. Good one for summer-y weather, though.
And in other news, Hajusuuri has earned yet another enabler pin for her galaxy of shinies. ? I’ll fill in details once my purchase arrives.
Woo hoo – can’t wait!
I’m silently taking a guess to what you got.
Love the art/fragrance combo today, Robin!
I started out the day in Feu Secret then added some SSS Champagne de Bois.
Thank you! And you smelled great 🙂
I’m in Messe de Minuit, the newer version in the bottle with the silver cap. I find it doesn’t have the richness of the original and I find the citrus notes brighter, but I still like it. I’m lucky it doesn’t go wrong on me like taninna posted about yesterday!
I recall liking MdM when I tried my sample. It was a lot lighter than I expected from the notes list, though.
It actually lasts a long time on me. I did three sprays to each arm and two to three chest.
Messe de Minuit lasted a decent time for me as well. I was expecting a huge, dank, dark incense scent and did not get anything like that. It was surprisingly bright.
I could have sworn I commented earlier. I must be going crazy. Anyway, I am going camping early tomorrow morning and won’t feel very goth I don’t think- will probably chose something more outdoorsy or light. Thus, I’m counting today as my Friday and participating by wearing Noir de Noir. Surely that’s goth in some way! 🙂
My mind seems to be going to waste as well, so I’m glad I’m not the only one.
what day is it..oh Thursday.
this is me everyday! Lol
It feels like a Friday to me too but I am putting in 2 hours per day for the next 4 days (sounds like the equivalent of a full day to me!).
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs Coromandel EDT
Discontinued goth beauty❣️

In other news, I spoke to my neighbor and her boyfriend this afternoon when I was out to pick up the mail and to close the garbage bin. My neighbor was appreciative of my offer (and I did) to call the property management company as that gave her a moment to calm down. The boyfriend looked fine. The car was totaled and he has a rental for now. They were on their way to go to Wegmans so everything seems to be back to normal for now except for the gaping hole on the siding.
I’m technically off from work tomorrow but have to login for probably 2 hours and also 2 hours every day through the entire holiday weekend. A colleague has not had a proper weekend due to a report that has to be done everyday (COVID-19 related) and I am taking one for the team ☝️.
I’m curious, did the neighbor tell you what caused the accident?
Nope. I don’t think they wanted to talk about it and I am too polite to ask.
Sotd, citrus mint hand sani lol. I finally got In and Out as they allow take out now. I gotta say, I don’t love it as much as I used to. Maybe having food from home changed things. Hopefully, money saved in the future then. Just not as enthused. Ross opened and there is a long line outside the store. Most aren’t wearing masks. No thx. I think ppl are itching to shop and grab deals.
I may put on a little Youth Dew later on. World Meditation Day..I listened to a video with Tibetan bells or something, not bad. Lol we could all use a little more good mojo.
I heard Ross and the like were having really good perfume deals. There’s no way I would stand in a long line for a non necessity. I don’t have the patience.
I know right? They can have the deals and stand in 90 degree weather for hours, doesn’t work for me.
I wouldn’t do it, that’s for sure.
I started out today wearing JHaG Mmmm. Mid day switched to TF Metallique. The combination of the two, had my son asking why he smells fudge? Lol. Now I have on one spray of No.19 to the back of my hand, just because.
Did you notice fudge after he said something?
I only picked up on the almond mixing with the vanilla. More cookie dough than fudge to me.
Forgot to say I took a ferry boat trip up the Bosphorus from Istanbul and it was just fabulous! You buy a very cheap ticket and can get on and off each way as you wish as it cross-crosses between the European and Asian sides. Wonderful views of the hillsides, mansions, small towns, and cargo ships. Great breezes on a hot day. Our guidebook said one town had the best yogurt on earth. People came on board at that town selling batches of it and it truly was! At the last stop we disembarked and climbed way up a high high hill to get to the top, where we had marvelous views of the Bosphorus and Black Sea. We ate up there at a delightful taverna in the shade. The whole route was lined with apricot trees bearing ripe fruit. It was one of the best travel experiences of my life!
Wow, that sounds like an absolute dream of a trip, what a great memory to have.
Late last night/early this morning: Nobile 1492 Patchouli Nobile. By whatever time in the morning that was, I thought I had missed Friday…
We were busy doing some pretty successful shopping yesterday (Thursday), and took a walk in a local park in the afternoon. Mom stuck to the paved trail, but I ventured onto the trail by the lake.
I could hear a lot more birds than I could see, but I saw a mallard coming in to land on the lake, and a red-winged blackbird or two on the reeds. There were smaller birds — possibly the tree swallows that were around everywhere else in the park — dipping over the surface of the water. My guess was that they were scooping up little water bugs and such to eat. In the areas that were not quite at the water’s edge, we saw bluebirds and robins.
A little later, when I was in the parking lot at Wendy’s, making a couple of phone calls before getting on the drive-through line, a mockingbird landed on top of the driver’s side mirror of the car for a minute before going up to perch on a power line. If I’d had my window all the way open, that might have been even closer, like a face-to-face encounter. I was glad it wasn’t quite that close, though.
