Wednesday scent of the day 12/4

Posted by Robin on 4 December 2019 179 Comments

Hump Day and National Cookie Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm being a copycat again, in tiffanie's pick from yesterday, Fendi Theorema.

Reminder: on 12/6 we're doing Scents of the Season, part 1...wear something that smells like evergreens, or has an evergreen note. Suggested by thegoddessrena.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hi you all! Oh dear, cookie day and I just wanted to lose some pounds….

SOTD is Mancera Greedy Rose from a sample. A nice rose and strong scent. A sample Roses Jasmine is on its way to me.

Wearing dabs of 31 Rue Cambon sample in elbow crooks and Byredo Gypsy Water hand lotion on hands. No they don’t really go together, but it’s fine. I can’t explain it, it just happened that way.

I can’t believe it. I seems like yesterday that I was just on here announcing my delivery, now 5 years later…

They’re great – I’ve made them once before. I did take other NYT readers’ advice and swapped the amounts of peanut butter and miso so that it’s more pb per miso.

I am wearing Tyrannosaurus Rex and drinking a lovely tieguanyin and everything smells wonderful. For tea lovers among you, if you haven’t tried tieguanyin you really must – I think it is about the best smell in the world. I first discovered it in my office in Beijing, when there was the most marvelous smell around my cubicle, and I followed my nose across the cubicle wall to where my coworker was drinking some. Also known as tiekuanyin or iron goddess. I recommend Anxi Tiekuanyin Group, whose logo is a red square, if you don’t know where to start.

Relatedly I ordered the new oolong tea perfume that’s coming out with the next issue of Lez Nez in hopes that it will come close. And that sent me down a Roucel rabbithole and long story short, I am now the proud owner of Oh My Cat!, a fragrance for cats. Don’t judge me it was $6. I like it; my cat does not like being spritzed with anything, no matter how pleasantly scented.

I bet the bottle is cute, and pheromones are powerful stuff so I am sure that you are cat safe anyway. Does it smell like catnip? That would be fun.

We have a semi feral rescue and need Feliway and then some – just to get her to the vet,, even at age 5. She’s such a cool cat, a black smoke, and damn smart too.
I was a cat person long before I became a dog person, now I am undeniably both.

I would describe it as an herbal skin scent, though all the listed notes are floral. It’s pretty mild and inoffensive, and my cat was totally disinterested in it once she got over the indignity of being spritzed. I would wager there’s nary a pheromone involved.

LOL that you got a fragrance for cats. Just think of it as me laughing *with* you about that.

I should be able to find Iron Goddess tea relatively locally. Various choices of tea are much more available around here than perfume.

Of the samples of tea fragrances I’ve tried, Berdoues Assam of India is still my favorite. I’m not as into the smoked tea fragrances, though I like incense smoke sorts of fragrances.

To be honest, i have no idea haha.

A lovely NSTer once gave me a vial of New York in a swap. But idk from what year,

Anwyays, I am wearing them side by side now and so far I dont detect huge differences.

NY seems to start to lose top notes earlier than NYI and devlops quickly into that yummy spicy smoky phase. I think I can already detect that cinnamon.
NYI is more zesty and mossy after 15 minutes.

But this may be because the NY vial has been open for quite a while now, and NYI is fresh from the box.

Comments on basenotes and short review from Luca Turin say NYI is more like the vintage NY.

        Oh dear
I dont know if I am helping you with all this.. sorry!

            Thanks! ☺️

Okay, so the difference is more noticeable after a few hours.
NY smells sweeter now, the cloves are more prominent.
NYI has a slightly greener profile.

I am not suprised actually, the formulas differ and one of them is quite older.

But they are def twin scents, and i love them both.

No that’s really helpful! I’m pretty sure I don’t need them both. PdN confuses me since she’s put out “intense” versions of different perfumes that I thought were intense to start with lol

    SotD = Theorema

woot! woot! Way to go, Robin, you smell lovely. :D

Theorema has been one of my go-to’s since October. The little mini bottle I found online a few years ago is going to have to last the rest of my life, or if I’m lucky the perfumed powers that be will resurrect Theorema in a new form. I only need a few drops on my wrists to huff happily all day, so I’m good for now, lol.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, perfumed pals!

Oreos were on sale today at our usual grocery store. I saw the dark chocolate and other chocolate, and assorted other flavors, but in the end went with the classic sort. I put a couple in a little bowl and poured a bit of milk over them. There’s a reason they’re a classic! :) I’ll likely try the chocolate varieties sooner or later, though.

Scent at bedtime last night (definitely after midnight): Demeter Frasier Fir. This was from a sample with a sprayer, so I got a lot more than I did dabbing the Blue Spruce the other day. Strong, relatively realistic, not Pine Sol. I think it lasted for a while. I got up briefly a few hours later and could still smell it.

Trying the Demeter Blue Spruce again, partly because it goes with Robin’s picture. :)

I think I like the Demeter Frasier Fir better. The real life evergreen scent I like a lot is balsam fir. I’ll have to try to find a wreath or piece of garland made of that somewhere. I’ll see what’s on offer at Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Angel Muse, the bottle has been calling to me for the past few days and it’s rainy and cool so it works! One of my (rare) TJ Maxx clearance finds.
I went to Bath and Bodyworks yesterday because my younger daughter wants one of their candles and so we sniffed around – the candle sale is this Saturday, and people line up at 6AM for the 7AM opening, and apparently it gets crazy in the story with people going nuts (the shop assistant said: “We have to meditate a lot.” I’m pretty sure she mean “mediate”, but perhaps they really do need to meditate to make it through that day :)
Unfortunately, my 12 year old and her friend seem to think that I will get them candles – which brings me to why I’m mentioning this all: The Fir candle wasn’t half bad. Happy Hump Day!

I’ll go easier when I spray it next time. We are so lucky to have the MOST GORGEOUS weather now in Houston!! Crystalline blue skies and 70 degrees. The best time of the year for us, except possibly February. There are a lot of azaleas that bloom around now and they’re so pretty and festive (red ones).
