Thursday scent of the day 10/10

Posted by Robin on 10 October 2019 218 Comments

It's Almost-Friday and World Mental Health Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking a community project point in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Toit.

Reminder: on 10/11, celebrate National Apple Month by wearing a perfume with an apple note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is Illustration 27 from Deutsche Pomologie - Aepfel, Ananas Reinette [cropped] via Wikimedia Commons. You can find a review of the Ananas Reinette apple at the Adam's Apples blog.

I’m trying a sample of Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental. As I was applying it I thought “Now I know why Serge Lutens is such a big deal!”. Unfortunately, applied to my skin it is now a rather muffled generic vetiver.

      Money saved!
Not all SL are great…and some have been reformulated and are sheer compared to the original like my beloved Fleurs d’Oranger

    I am sampling Neroli Intense

I am wearing a tan suede dress today, combined with this perfume I look like I could just be a walking beeswax candle

            Yes it’s that one
It’s smells a lot like beeswax candles
            How is Cap Neroli

          • holyneroli says:

Oh that sounds right up my alley.

Cap Neroli is very refreshing – I find it relatively long-lasting for a neroli perfume. It’s kind of an herbal/green take on neroli. Ede could probably give a better description than that 🙂

CdG White today. Not overtly fruity, but with a note of pomegranate; perhaps the original forbidden fruit?

I made a pineapple upside down cake yesterday and have been trying very hard not to have a piece for breakfast. ?

Have it! You’ve got the rest of the day to work it off. Plus, there’s fruit, so it’s somewhat healthy, right? I love pineapple upside down cake!?

No.☹️The selection this time was pretty small compared to the last trunk show.
I DID get my “vintage” bottle of Dune in the mail though!? According to the batch number it’s from 2013, lol, but I was less concerned with it being vintage than it’s size. I really wanted a 30 ml bottle.

    SOTD: Coromandel
No apple in this one but fall-ish and de-lish!

Tomorrow is my last day at a company I’ve been at for 11 years! Excited to start my new gig on Oct. 21 with my old boss 😉

Thinking about a bottle of something as a special transition fragrance.. either Bois des Iles perfume, Calling All Angels or an Aftelier scent. I also really like the new YSL scent, Libre.

Yesterday Haze again today. I’ve been hit by an infection, went to the doctor on Tuesday for antibiotics and got my flu shot while I was there. I’ve had a sore throat and headache ever since, anyone else have this happen? It’s certainly not as bad as the flu but still, yuck.

It’s a UTI not a respiratory infection, maybe that’s why. The doc asked me if I wanted the flu shot since I was there anyway, I didn’t think of it.

I’ve only managed to haul out 1 perfume from the box that holds the rest of my collection. It’s Kiehl’s Original Musk Blend. I am looking at wearing Amouage Beloved today from a decant that I got a few months ago. A couple days ago, I ordered from Ulta a mini travel spray and 2 ounce litte package of Clinique Happy. It was only $10 and had to get it. When I looked at my Ulta rewards and I have $20 stockpiled.

I put my on Chinchilla fur coat this morning because it’s ugly outside. Hope I don’t gas out the oral surgeon but baby, it’s cold outside!

I stayed at the state park just over the river in Minnesota last night so I could plug in my space heater and we stayed nice and cozy. If I didn’t have to work, I’d just stay here over the weekend. This place will not be plowed, and I need to be able to get to work, so no luxurious plug in spot for F-S-S. No work, no pay. Simple!

Hi all, my SOTD is vintage Chanel No. 19 edp. I’m nearing the end of my bottle, still deciding if I’ll replace it or not. It’s such a beauty but I’m on a no-buy and trying to avoid confessing my sins to Donatella.
Spent the night making cookies for my nurses at UCSF, my procedure is tomorrow and I like to bring them goodies. Made chocolate fudge cookies and also coconut macaroons. 🙂

Dawn, that’s another reason to rethink my purchasing. Pricing has gotten out of this world, I refuse to pay that kind of price. In some cases, $500-750 for a bottle of perfume is insane. My limit has been $175 for many years and that’s where it’s staying.

Will be trying out Estate Lavender right after my mammogram. ? notes will be Estate Vanilla, Lavender (many varieties), Bergamot, Black Tea, Coriander, Wild Violet, Davana, Heather, Rain. I had to remember to bring my deodorant and a perfume sample today and I’m two for two. ??

I’m not sure which clinics are right – those who forbid, or those who don’t.

Either way, hope it goes well for you.

I think it’s more them not wanting goop/scent on the plates that they have to get off or residue that interferes? Maybe allergy issues, too. I’ve never asked about the reason.

This has been a weird week for me (coworker pettiness combined with general malaise on my part), but it’s a gorgeous, cold, clear morning here so I’m trying to perk up. I’ve been craving cuddle-scents this week so have worn Indochine, Ummagumma and Cuir Cannage so far this week, and today it’s Cuir Mauresque. I don’t have much in my arsenal with an apple note (apparently I don’t care much for it), but I’ve been saving Or du Serail for tomorrow’s CP. Isn’t there an apple brandy scent somewhere, maybe a By Kilian? I should rifle the sample heap for tonight’s bedtime scent. Anyway, happy Friday Eve, y’all.

It is really delicious, the opening is a perfectly balanced honey and amber. It’s very elegant and comfortable at the same time. Now I have some incense which is always a favorite. I am working in the yard and when the breeze blows by me I smell so good! I think I am really attracted to cardamom scents.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and good wishes to my dog Yei yesterday. He was seeing by a vet recommended to me by one of my coworkers. Not sure yet it that will work out. His left side of the body is almost paralyzed and his head tilted to the left side. He is not eating. He seems to be in bad pain. I am waiting for the results of several tests that were performed yesterday. The possibilities are that he has a severe infection somewhere in his body, a problem in his jaw, a tumor or he had a stroke. Based on the results, he most likely will need a CT-scan or an MRI and further tests. In that case he will be referred to AMC, as suggested by many of you here.

I am wearing 10 Corso Como today. Pretty, simple and comforting. Thanks God is almost Friday.

I hope the tests come back with a conclusive result that is treatable! My friend’s dog lost use of her legs and needed an MRI and it turned out the dog had something like a clot in the spine (or a stroke in the spine that resulted in a clot blockage) – in any case, it was something that resolved itself and the dog is fine. Best of luck for your sweet dog.

I’m about ready to fill a shopping cart at Fragrancenet (I tried Olfactive Studio’s flashback recently and really liked it), and I’m happy to hear suggestions for a fresh, light floral for a young tween – my daughter’s best friend went sniffing with us at Dillards and is quite intrigued with getting her own bottle (she does like Miss Dior blooming bouquet). Since her birthday is coming up, I may as well see if there is something I can add to my cart now…

Felt like going a bit avant garde so I went with 2 sprays of 4160 Tuesdays Tyger Tyger. This is a bespoke fragrance created for YouTuber BeautyMeow (Kristin West), and it’s a leather/lemongrass scent. I really love the leather note! So far it’s flying under the radar of the Perfume Grinch….maybe he can’t figure out where the leather smell is coming from?

Perfume twin with Robin and loved the Adam Apple Blog. A link to a couple who started collecting and saving heritage apples in NZ.
I am home from Central Otago. The hills there are covered in wild thyme and it was all in flower so all the slopes were purple. Too late for the apricot blossom in the commercial orchards but still some trees in flower by the old stone gold-miners cottages. It is a beautiful area, and good for heritage apple trees.

Thanks for that link Kanuka. As an (almost professional) apple eater, I lament the loss several kinds of apples in the Netherlands over the past decade or so. Fortunately I’ve discovered an apple grower who still has some very old kinds of apples so I can eat lots of diffent kinds of apples during the apple season.
The description of the hills is wonderful. Were you able to smell the thyme from a distance?

I grew up on an apple orchard and miss several of the old varieties we had – they often don’t “keep” or travel as well, so they get left behind by commercialization practices.

Hey twin! And thank you for the link — I wish the article told us more of the named varieties.

And I love the Adam’s Apple blog, although it is a shame that most apples only get reviewed once or maybe twice, because of course the particular harvest matters. Still, nobody much else is doing it so glad he is.

And I actually had my first Ananas Reinette this year so was glad to see his review.

But he has never reviewed many of my favorite apples. The world needs more apple bloggers 🙂

There was a Dutch television series many, many years ago. I can’t remember the name, can’t even remember what it was about. The hilarious thing I do remember that the head of the CIA (in that series) was called James Grieve, and he would always bite a chunk out of an apple when introducing himself.

I was planning to attend a workshop at Indigo tonight with a friend, but it was cancelled due to low attendance. So sad! Ann offered to send me samples of the perfumes we would’ve sniffed, which I think is extremely generous. I was poking around Indigo’s website and the Sylvaine Delacourt musks discovery set caught my eye. Looking forward to some sampling in my future…

Finally thunked my decant of Avon Eve Elegance, then topped up at Sephora on Sens with Narciso White Cube.
Today we visited Sens, had a coffee outside near the cathedral (wonderful glass windows d
From the 15th century..). Them we drove to a grain mill to buy some flour for baking and also bought an homemade apple tart. Sooo good.
Wine and boeuf bourginon for dinner… Life is good

I need some mental health. Work is very stressful right now.

I was cold this morning and even wore a thin scarf. On my walk to NYPenn, it was in the low 70s ?

I know! I’ve been over-dressing these days and I was a little sweaty coming home.

I got this decant from Laurels in the swap meet. It’s really lovely- sweeter than I normally wear, but there’s something addictive about it. Nosy Be is an island off of Madagascar! ?

Chiming in late – but at least chiming in! It’s been a busy fall so far and I miss NST.

Went with Kismet this morning and can still smell it. Not sure how I feel about it anymore. I got a bottle for my last birthday and there is alot left!

Don’t you hate that, when you fall in love and then out of love with a perfume.

Oh no! I hate when that happens. Maybe wait for colder weather and try again?

    Stoopid busy today!

SOTD = TF Noir de Noir, from the sample stash and a lovely NSTer. This should also be on my “comfort scent” list!
