Tuesday scent of the day 8/13

Posted by Robin on 13 August 2019 304 Comments

It's Tuesday and it's Afternoon Tea Week. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m wearing Prada Infusion d'Iris and drinking a cup of Upton Colombia Tippy Black Organic.

Reminder: on 8/16, wear a fragrance by Kerosene, Keiko Mecheri or Kai, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter K.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: The Nordic Sea Tea Pot (100 cl, Grey) by Broste Copenhagen is $44 at Royal Design USA.

TWINS WITH ROBIN today! 🙂 Prada Infusion d’Iris is as close to a signature scent as I think I’ll get….it’s just perfect for any occasion. I never want to be without this one.

Afternoon tea won’t be fancy, but it sure is our family favorite: Red Diamond iced tea! Simple pekoe tea blended in Alabama….never found one I like better!

    Chanel Fortnight continues!

31 Rue Cambon ….had to steal this from my youngest….am wearing it today to celebrate his birth.

Heading to his favorite Indian restaurant for all you can eat buffet followed by an ice cream cake.

Gifts include three Jo Malone soaps, four Jo Malone travel sprays and a bottle of 1000 Flowers Ode for Him which I will also steal some of.

    And happy birthday to ?

In a fit of housecleaning I gave away my half full bottle of original Boucheron, and now I miss it from time to time. How is Jaipur on it’s own? It doesn’t get a lot of mentions….

I had a sample of Mulholland from a few years ago and just loved it. Plus the hubby always seem to notice it and compliment me (which is VERY rare!) So this year I finally bought a FB for my own birthday gift, and I’ve been struggling to love it now. It seems that spraying it is much more potent on my skin than just dabbing it from my sample.

I’m gonna wear one spray of it on Friday for the challenge I think….but I’ll have to spray my lower back so it’s close to the skin! The Perfume Grinch doesn’t like patchouli…. 🙂

I say transfer it into a dabber and use it that way. This is what I did with Casablanca, which is extrait strength and performs better for me dabbed. I think part of the reason some folks don’t like it is due to the spray sample…..dabbed may work better for them.

I grew up very near Mulholland in Los Angeles, and my girl scout troop met in a house up there. I spent so much time in my childhood hiking around those hills. I would love a scent that somehow evokes that landscape, but the notes of this one—”Citrus, petit grain, hint of patchouli, sandalwood, amber”—could never smell anything like it because for one thing where is the sage?

SOTD is Jacomo Silences. This has been a summer full of green perfumes.

Today’s tea is Rishi Turmeric Ginger. I’m hoping it will give me strength as I’m in the uncomfortable position of explaining to a higher-up at my organization that a shiny new authentication system we just implemented doesn’t quite meet the lofty expectations he had for it. Don’t shoot the messenger!

This happens all the time at my work. The salesmen do a number on the excecutives, and then the worker bees spend years dealing with inadequate systems. Why they don’t let the people who are going to use the darned things at least ask some questions is beyond me. 🙂

Oh, gosh, yeah, I’ve seen that a few times. Executive: “Look, workers, we’ve got a shiny new toy that will make you six times more efficient!”

Workers, among themselves: “Er, it doesn’t actually fit very well with the specific type of work we’re doing.”

I’ve heard of a library being built or renovated without input from librarians. The librarians saw the results, and immediately asked, “Where’s the book return slot at the circulation desk?” and “Where’s the reference desk?”

There are people out there who feel your pain, holyneroli. I hope the discussion went relatively well, considering.

    Love that teapot!

My SOTD is Vilhelm Don’t Tell Jasmine. Which is nice enough but not worth the splurge. I will finish my sample though.
Also wearing Back to Black, Love, Sweet Redemption and A Taste of Heaven. I got a Sweet Harmony set from BK and am enjoying it to the max.
Tea is Taiwan Sun Moon Lake, a fancy black tea that I’m enjoying quite a bit.

Oh good! I’ll be curious to see what you think. Of the handful of Replica’s I’ve tried, it’s the only one that has worked for me. I don’t think I need 100 mls of it, but those 10 ml travel sprays are tempting.?

His birthday is Friday, so you know what I HAD to do…. HA HA HA (He will like it, and I will borrow from time to time) 🙂

Long time, no post. Haven’t been wearing perfume at all, but today I decided wear what came to mind first. So, I’m in SSS Yin & Ylang from my perfect travel size spray.

Hope all you fragrant NSTers are enjoying the summer! I’m looking forward to fall myself, and I’m hoping to see some great fall colors this year.

For those interested, here is a link to my newest favorite camp spot (subject to change at any moment!?).

            Ditto on all of that.
My dog used to get on really well with horses, she had been used to them from a pup as I was still horse riding when I got her. She’d lick their noses if she got the chance. It was hilarious, as a horse’s head was just about the size of my entire dog (she was a dachshund). One day I would love to go watch orca’s. Such majestic animals as well.

No, most were very young horses and just curious. I DID want to move on and not block the road, so I was a little stymied when they wouldn’t move out of the road.
I remember road tripping out west in the 70’s with my parents and most of the area was “Open Range” like this. We often had to stop for cowboys moving cattle along. Sadly, I think the small family farms and ranches are an endangered species these days.

In these here parts, pretty much the only animals we see crossing the road are geese and goslings. I have seen the occasional deer which surprised me.

Hey there! I did spearfish canyon yesterday and hiked the Devil’s Bathtub trail. Then went chasing waterfalls! ? Had a late lunch/early dinner and did a walkabout in Deadwood yesterday afternoon. Would like to do a couple of other hikes, but weather is not cooperating, so we shall see. It is BEAUTIFUL area. Spearfish canyon strikes me as a holy place and I’m not the religious sort. I’m avoiding jewelry of any sort because it’s my weakness. My mother had a beautiful black hills gold ring she bought when we travelled here in the 70’s that I always envied. Much more detail and artistry in the jewelry from that period. But, the less I buy, the longer I’ve been able to travel about??

Well, I predicted wearing something citrus. (lol) I think it’s really quite lovely. Put that one on the “confessions to Donatella” list.

Yes, I’ve been hearing on the evening news that it’s been very hot in the South — more so than a typical summer in the South. The heat is heading up towards the mid-Atlantic section of the East Coast soon, so Robin and irisjasmine and I and the folks who live in New Jersey will have things to say about it very soon, I’m sure. It wasn’t terribly hot today, but it was so humid that it felt quite a bit hotter than it really was. I’ll hear soon what the heat index here was.

It is a nice scent for a hot day. 🙂

It’s just as well for me that it faded to a skin scent pretty quickly. A couple hours after I tried the cologne, Mom had me change a dressing on her foot. She’d used Domeboro (Burow’s) solution on the place that has stitches. I’m not sure how much of a scent that has. But Mom certainly would have commented if she’d gotten a strong scent of cologne, considering I was that close to her.

          Oh, and thank you. 🙂

I’ve been seeing your namesake Elisa-rabbit (I’m sure there are multiple Elisa-rabbits, actually) in the front yard almost every morning when I go out, except for the day that Dad and I looked out the windows of the back door and saw her near that door.

One day when I saw the rabbit (one of the rabbits), she was a few feet from the path between house and driveway, and just looked at me. I said, “Shoo!” and got no reaction. I tossed the contents of my bottle of water at her, and she hopped a few more feet away.

I think she gets a little more intimidated (or it happens to be a shyer rabbit) when Mom and I both come out the door so I can take Mom grocery shopping. That’s more of a production. But when we step out, she runs from the front lawn across the driveway to the bunch of brush and vines that has a dogwood tree somewhere in the middle, and disappears from sight.

How is the raccoon you named for me? (I suppose that would now be the Em-raccoon. lol.) Have you seen raccoon cubs?

          Have a good night! 🙂

Haha! Poor little bunster. The raccoon still passes through occasionally, but I I have seen a mom and 3 cubs making the yard rounds at night. It’s very dramatic and high energy with a lot of grunting. They’re pretty cute ?

Oh, yes, raccoon cubs are adorable. 🙂 As long as raccoons aren’t getting into trash cans or scaring someone’s cat, they’re really cute.

A few weeks ago, I saw twin fawns standing like statues near the side of the road I was on. They were very beautiful, every dapple and line of their forms just perfect. I decided to head home on a main road after seeing them, but they were lovely creatures.

Oh, I forgot — afternoon tea is decaf English Teatime, as iced tea. Folks in Great Britain and the Commonwealth, is using English Teatime or English Breakfast tea as iced tea a blasphemous thought to you? I drink hot tea in the winter, but in the summer it’s all iced tea. 🙂

The fact that you picked up a bottle of Pamplemousse Rose speaks highly of it. Any rose in there at all, or is it all citrus?

      • neyronrose says:
        13 August 2019 at 10:26 pm

I got grapefruit and perhaps a bit of rose, and then a pleasantly herbal skin scent. It got three stars in the Perfume Guide A-Z as a “vegetal cologne.” Tania Sanchez said that there were fleeting seconds of citrus (paraphrasing), then a “vegetable bouillon” of “cut-grass, herbal, and tomato-leaf notes.” I wouldn’t have thought I’d be okay with tomato-leaf notes. I learn something new every day.

In King of Prussia I was there to see all there was to see. (Well, smell all there was to smell.) Today, at the Sephora near me, I had already heard a lot about Pamplemousse Rose and wanted to smell that specifically. Keep in mind that my sense is smell isn’t terribly reliable, depending on how bad my allergies are. But I fell in love with that first whoosh of freshness.

After that, it was like a roll of the dice in a Dungeons & Dragons game or the like. “Roll for willpower.” Result: zero — critical failure. Which is why I got a full bottle today.

I don’t see myself as any kind of reliable critic, or as having skills in judging fragrances. I’ve just been going for citrus colognes in a big way lately. Pixel will tell you. 🙂

Inspired by Angela’s article yesterday on MDCI’s Promesse De L’Aube I fished out my Chypre Palatin dabbers.
Oh is this a fabulous perfume. I don’t care if it has been reformulated (no point for comparison) it is still beautiful. The scent filled the house as soon as I opened it and carried it to the kitchen. (seriously, it did!) That was my first warning that it had attached itself to me! The opening was smooth, it is not too sweet, nor powerful. There is a lovely melange of floral and woods, I detect a tiny amount of BD’s incense and it smells divine, just divine.
    I really really LOVE this.

Yes, it is SO divine!! You smell absolutely glorious! I have a small decant that’s old. I always wanted a bottle but all the negative comments on the reform held me back.

Thanks Laura, you are lucky! I wonder who did the reform.
Was it more than just the oak moss?
I can only imagine the price of the original juice on evil-bay …
I will scout out some decants to check pricing.

There’s some controversy over whether or not it had been reformulated. I have an unopened FB of the more recent Chypre Palatin which I can split off (I need to check how much I paid for it). Please email me if interested. You also mentioned wanting to try something yesterday (or over the weekend) and I recall thinking I have that but don’t remember what it was you wanted to try.

I ? Opardu but you already know that. There’s a “deal” (not sure if it’s in the website but I have an email):

2 x 17.5 mL of any combination of travel sprays (except Sheiduna) and free shipping for the grand price of €250 (~ US$280 unless there’s a big devaluation of either currency). Sheiduna is not eligible for free shipping because it is dangerous goods (heh, I thought all perfumes were dangerous goods in postofficespeak). There’s an even better deal if you like 60mLs worth of a perfume: 1 x 17.5mL travel spray plus 1 x 60 mL, any combination except Sheiduna for reasons noted previously, free shipping; this will set you back €395 or ~ US$442.

I really cannot believe that I have passion that someone can talk about that begins with the word “deal” and ends with US$442. But that is the sad state of affairs. (And now I am dying to try Sheiduna!) I do also really like Warszawa… sigh. Will poke around the website.

(Been thinking about ya. Hope you are doing okay.)

I don’t know about US schools but sometimes they start a new school year on a Thursday or Friday so they can simply introduce the new kids to their classes, timetable, and fill them in on background orientation …then everyone goes home for the weekend, comes back on Monday and because they are fully orientated they can just dive in to class as normal. That, or it’s so traumatic that everyone needs a rest after one or two days.

It’s a stinking cold morning, blustery wind and still a few patches of snow on the tops. If I had my druthers, I would stay in bed and keep cosy but no such luck. I noticed yesterday that the hillside paddocks are dotted with shallow rabbit holes, more like scratchings in the dirt…a sure sign of spring as they are going for the new growth and tender roots whereas in winter they tend to strip the bark off the seedling trees for their shot of green. What perfume helps with cold and goes with longjohns, down jacket and muddy boots…Chanel jersey i guess ( sample from Waterdragon, yay).

On theme for yesterday, SOTD is Zoologist Elephant. A day late and a dollar short, as we say (I’m helping Kanuka with her Americanisms).

Looks like we’re starting a heat wave here… hardly a hint of a breeze, and a smudge of smoke on the horizon from fires down south in Monterey. Got a swim in early before the kids hit the pool.

We are ? ?!!! As you know I wore your fragrance on Sunday.
I only know Saffran Troublant and I blew through my 15 ml decant in a week which tells you how much I loved it….to me it’s creamy pudding, rose with a touch of spice and saffron, so delicious, especially in the summer for me when my skin accentuates sweet notes. If you decide to get it look for an older bottle discounted.

I never really got much saffron in Safran Troublant- mostly spiced vanilla and some rose to my nose. Calligraphy Saffron smells more like saffron to me and is more a middle eastern style perfume. Totally different to me. You may just need both ?

I’m in Le Temps d’Une Fete today, having not worn it all spring/summer so far – what’s wrong with me?! Tea of the moment is Tea Forte’s white ginger pear, from a huge ziplock-full that I stumbled across while reorganizing our pantry over the weekend. The ziplock bagful has now been shifted to my desk drawer at work, since that’s where I keep my loose-tea infuser these days.

At wirk, I’m happy with the Tazo Black Tea which I make myself everyday and pour over ice. I switched to using one bag of black tea and one bag of green tea and this combo is brighter and more uplifting. I do have my daily cup of red eye Starbucks for my caffeine boost before switching to the naked iced tea.

The texture on that teapot reminds me of corduroy fabric. Kewl!

The predicted nasty weather for today has not materialized. Gloomy, oh yeah, in spades. A bit of rain here and there. Too bleeping humid. But not nasty. Let’s hope that I am not being premature with my musings. ☁☁☁

SOTD = Soivohle Sinti Extrait de Parfum, from the sample stash. This is a woodsy rose that slowly evolves into an amber rose. Not those spiky, stabby wood notes, either. It has smelled wonderful for a sizable chunk of the day. ?

Humid and cloudy but at least not hellishly hot but who knows what tomorrow will bring!

      Sinti sounds very nice!

Not very sweet to my nose at all. There is a subtle sweetness with a hint of vanilla beans/extract. YMMV, of course.

Yes, our predicted thunderstorms were a no show, too. As was the performer for the concert we just went to and just came back from ?

No, it was an indoor show- small venue. He had a run of 11 shows scheduled (different albums) which I think was an overestimate on their part. I think this show was very undersold- got an email offering me 2 free tickets since I bought tickets to another show. It was free for us, but still…

Quick check in for the first time in days due to my weekend trip and spending all yesterday doing chores and having dinner wirh my brother and his fiancee while they were in town. I needed something easy for my very sleepy first day back to work, so I’m in Rose Ikebana.

    SOTD = JHAG Vanilla Vibes

At first I couldn’t smell it after 5 sprays from my Sephora sample. Then the vanilla came out, as lillyjo and Laura mentioned. 2 hours later, something akin to the exploding musk in Dries van Notten can’t out (although it did not suck up all the air around me as DvN did) and now I am smelling soft citrus. Not my favorite vanilla but I’m glad I tried it.

In other news, I got a sample of LUSH Avocado Shower Cream and tried it for the first time last week. Oh my word – if I were to describe it, I would say it is “pralined tonka bean”. I went to Lush yesterday and found out it’s sold out everywhere in the U.S. including online (probably still available in the UK but shipping cost is no bueno). I must have been very convincing in my disappointment (I was) that the manager gave me the rest of the tester bottle which still had about 2 oz left. Woohoo!

I do have this entire week off and while there are many things to handle, I am giving myself me time!

Sweet! I had a Lush SA give me a “sample” of a soap I wanted to try, but she didn’t feel like cutting off a small piece so gave me a hunk that probably would’ve cost $7 (olive tree soap).

Ha! I also requested a sample of Goddess soap. I thought I would get a 1.5”x1” sample but instead, I got 1/4 of the entire soap!

I went into Lush four times trying to get a particular bath bomb, that they never did receive. The manager was so tired of my sad faces she finally gave me one they had in the back (the only one) that they had received for « staff training » (?).

Glad you are taking some me time as you are off work dealing with your mother’s passing.

First day back to school for my boys. The older one is a senior this year. Can’t believe it. We really need to start getting on top of college applications. He tells me he has already started and has it well in hand, so hopefully that’s the case. It was nice to have some peace and quiet with the house to myself this morning. Wafting my sample of Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum. Really glad that I like it just as well as Loukhoum Parfum du Soir, which seems to have been discontinued. Looking forward to ordering a bottle when the weather is colder and I don’t have to worry about it sitting out in the heat. In the meantime, thinking of getting a travel spray of Black Opium Intense, which has a much better coffee note than the original.

    SotD = Hermes Twilly!!!
    TotPM = iced green tea

Enjoying Twilly today with many thanks to an amazing perfumista who shared a darling mini with me. The bottle is so so so so cute!!! And it’s a mini bottle with an ATOMIZER not a splash top, omg omg omg, so amazing. 😀

I’ve broken out of my summer perfume routine, no more Chanel Mondays and Assam of India tea for Tuesdays. So this evening I’ll
shamelessly crib from Robin and waft myself to sleep on a cloud of Infusion d’Iris. Aaaahh, such a lovely thing it is.

Hope everyone is enjoying a terrific Tuesday. Mwah, darlings!

cuteness factor set to stun! so adorable 😀 I have Twilly on my desk at home to keep me company while I work. I enjoy the scent more each time I try it. Goes to show that the first try at a crowded perfume counter is not always a good test!

SOTD is LL Benjoin 19 from a sample set. Nice enough but not very distinctive and almost zero projection. We’re having, what, day six of triple digit temperatures here? Whew. I went to see my darling teenage oral surgeon today for ongoing pain after my tooth extraction three weeks ago. (Seriously, he looks about 16 and talks like a Valley Girl, even though he was born in Saigon, and has both DDS and MD degrees.) So, he flushed it out and applied medicine with a strong cinnamon taste, and gave me some to bring home. At least it’s not infected, just “inflamed.” Kind of distracting though. And traffic was murderous trying to get to his office in the late afternoon. I stick to my own neighborhood and forget sometimes what a huge city Houston really is.

I was seriously considering Benjoin 19 but am having second thoughts. Just tested Tabac 28 and Baie Rose, both were pleasant but not FBW. I actually bought a Dua dup of Benjoin 19 that is pretty good, I think I will stick with that. So sorry about your teeth, I was sick for a week from the anesthesia and got dry socket, it was miserable so I can sympathize.

I did find a mini of vintage K de Krizia in my stash so that’s what I have on tonight. Its from a dab-on bottle, so I have on just a tiny bit but it’s potent!
