Tuesday scent of the day 7/23

Posted by Robin on 23 July 2019 257 Comments

Tuesday, plus Raymond Chandler's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Kelly Caleche, because gvillecreative mentioned it over the weekend. Tea at the moment is Upton Hong Cha Mao Feng.

Reminder: on 7/26 we're doing Gone In Sixty Seconds...wear the shortest-lived fragrance you own. Bonus points for reapplying all day long. Suggested by pyramus.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: "The stylish shape of the Lenox Luca Blue Azzurro Angles teapot in chip-resistant porcelain with microwave-safe gold trim features the geometric artistry of renowned architect Luca Andrisani." It is on mark down at Macy's today, $58.

Keeping with the CP, I am in Miu Miu. Sprayed from my sample, almost the whole thing at 7am and it’s gone..I will finish it up and then ‘Thunk’
I know this one doesn’t get much love, but it is beautiful while it lasted!

Tea is London Breakfast with cream and honey.

Your tea sounds good! I’ve become sensitive to dairy in the past few months, and I miss having a splash of cream or milk in my tea. (Sure there’s soy milk, but nothing beats the real deal.)

Comparing Tauer Rose Vermielle and Broussard Ombre Rose, from a nice sample frm a generous NSTer! My office mate says of Ombre Rose – it’s nice but nothing I would ever wear. Of Rose Vermielle – I can barely smell it. LOL. I asked her what she thought because I was afraid the Rose Vermeille was too strong and would bother her. Shows what I know.

To me, Ombre Rose was first Rose and musk, then pretty much musk, now incense is coming to the fore. I like this perfume, enough to consider a small bottle of it if i can find a small bottle of it.

Rose Vermiele is sweet Rose, sweet Rose, sweet Rose. I don’t normally go in for sweet things, but this one is great to me, and strong. I am astounded that my office mate could barely smell it.

Your office mate is probably anosmic to something in the perfume. That’s the only explanation I can find for why someone could barely smell a Tauer perfume!

ORLY? I’ve not smelled the extrait or modern version. I used to wear the vintage quite a bit. The opening is awful but short-lived; the dry-down is gorgeous.

I too wore the vintage in the early 80s. It was always gorgeously powdery on my skin. The extrait is beautiful IMHO.

It’s so lovely. Hard to describe but it’s a floral that’s a bit fruity, a bit powdery, a bit woody. It glows from within, almost like one of those salt lamps. Much more chic though.

My work is fragrance free, and I wear perfume every day. I try to wear a discreet amount, and I haven’t had any issues so far. It doesn’t seem to really be enforced because there are a few people that still very obviously wear perfume. It is a bummer though to have to be especially secretive as a perfume lover.

I participated in the CP earlier today by wearing En Passant, one of most fleeting perfumes in my wardrobe. It disappeared a couple of hours after application.
Now I am testing Molinard Muguet Eau de Parfum. A lovely watery lily of the valley. It’s not original or ground-breaking, but smells very nice (if you like LOTL).

En Passant would be my pick for my favorite fleeting fragrance. It is definitely perfume ‘in passing’ quickly. I apply it extremely liberally, which helps, but is also expensive :-)

I just re-spritzed Perfumer H Orange Leaf and am getting a prominent anise/black licorice note from it today. Really good stuff.

Decided to try something new today and ordered a matcha tea latte from the cafe. Turns out I don’t care much for matcha ?‍♀️Now I know!

I’m not a fan of matcha either. It’s the only tea available at the hubster’s favorite sushi place, so I bring a tea bag with me.

Depending on who makes it, matcha can be really nasty. If it’s properly brewed, it’s not. It needs to be brewed with 175F (or lower temp) water, which some cafes may not be able to do.

I happen to be on my 3rd iced matcha latte of the day. (I make them at home.) I don’t necessarily love the flavor of matcha, but with enough honey and milk and ice, it’s delicious :D Hot matcha lattes are a different story as they seem to go bitter pretty rapidly. And I’ve also had hot matcha lattes that were bitter and nasty from the start.

I think you have a point! It was likely brewed with too-hot water, and, being accustomed to drinking black tea, I probably let it steep too long (it was a teabag). Then again, it may have just needed more honey…

The worst was after Hurricane Isabel, September 2003 (I had to look up the month). We had no power for eight days on our street. My husband was traveling for work, and I had a 2 year old and a 5 month old in tow, plus a very sick cat. I was supposed to give the cat fluids subcutaneously 3 times a day, the last dose at night. Once the boys were asleep, I would set up a ring of candles on our dining room table around the cat, and dangle his IV pouch from the chandelier. Anyone looking in would have seen a very curious sight!

I’d be happy to help you with your icebox cake :D I need some lemon cake in my life ?

I had a sample of Gabrielle and every time I wore it, it struck me as a perfume for well-heeled social security-eligible women who shop at fancy department stores, possibly wearing a fur coat. I’m guessing that’s not what the folks at Chanel had in mind.

The weather is so much cooler this morning, overcast and 78 degrees when I walked the pupper. Still, the last of the Prada Infusion Cedre sample wore off by the end of the walk. I like it, but don’t need a bottle of it.

Sprayed a big cloud of 4711 Lime&Nutmeg (or is it Nutmeg&Lime?? The dog is on my lap, so I’m unable to go check the label), and will undoubtedly add to the melange later.

This is a goofy looking post, and I’m posting it anyway! ?

I went to Nancy last weekend and had a great time there. its really a lovely city. We drove to the Vosges as well, for a walk in the cool forests.

I started reading “1812” about Napoleon’s march on Moscow. Its fascinating (by Adam Zamoyski).

Sampling again while I can tolerate it in today’s cooler weather.

VC&A Neroli Amara -a very pretty Goldilocks citrus neroli. I’ve been thinking about grouping some of my decants (if not bottles) together by dominant notes if I have a lot in particular categories. Right now, that would be iris, neroli/orange blossom and jasmine. This one is convincing me to proceed with forging ahead with that as it’s quite likely that I own something similar enough to scratch that itch.

VC&A Moonlight Patchouli – very pretty, gotta wait for the drydown as the initial blast was overwhelming.

Nishane’s Patchuli Kozha – basic patchouli on me.

Parley Moi’s Orris Tattoo – do I have enough irises? Probably. Do I want more irises? Apparently so. I’ll see how I feel about this one as the day goes by. Thus far, I love it. Another candidate for contemplating when enough is enough.

Wearing my vintage Ivoire edt splash. I never understood the splash application. Pour it in your hands and throw it on? Seems wasteful.
I decanted it, so now it’s a spray! If I put my nose down my shirt, it’s still going strong.

The splash version is more green and less sharp than my old spray bottle of the edt that I just thunked. Or maybe the aldehydes have burned off… I still love Ivoire either way.

Yesterday I was at a mall and there was Lost Cherry. I love the first five minutes but then it’s gone, so I sprayed the tester and enjoyed the ride. Other people must be doing the same thing, the tester was almost empty. I’d never buy it, not worth the $$$ vs longevity test for me. Today it’s Desarmant, my favorite lilac. It’s cool here so I’m not wearing one of my short-lived citrus fragrances.

Decided to wear Vetiver Extraordinaire after kpaint was asking about it yesterday. My decant is almost gone. I thought I might finish it today, but I didn’t want to overdo it so there’s at least one more wear in it. Sadly, this is one of my evaporating decants. It’s started to get richer and more concentrated but at least the oil didn’t separate from the alcohol like sometimes happens during evaporation.

Robin, reporting back now that I’ve used the Kneipp Passionfruit & Grapefruit shower gel that it is sweeter and more desserty than I remember. It has a caramel scent similar to that in Prada Candy paired with the tart sweetness of the fruits. I’m afraid that I don’t like it as much as I did last summer. Don’t know if it changed or if I have.

Absolutely not participating in TF Orchid Soleil (although I applied 6-7 hrs ago and could use a top-up.)

Had a good morning, woke up feeling refreshed, made some fun perfume purchases, then all was dashed after having an extremely infuriating situation occur and making a totally unrelated yet also infuriating phone call.

Anyway… did y’all know that FragranceNet sells 8 ml decants of some of their perfumes? They’re in those twist-up metal atomizers (which hopefully won’t evaporate like screw-top atomizers do. Fingers crossed.)

Purchases: travel size ML VE, 3 Prada Infusions minis (vetiver, amande, fleurs d’oranger), 8 ml decant of TF Orchid Soleil (my mfr sample has almost run dry,) and a 100 ml (tester) bottle of Terracotta which cost just over $50. It’ll be fine if the tester comes in a plain box; if it has no cap, I may have to try again.

I’ve spent more this month than I did in the first 2 quarters, so yes. But all of the above cost +/- $125, so not so bad. I used a $50 GC to buy the Malle and a 37% off code at fragrancenet. The Prada minis were all right around $10 and the TF decant was $15. Thus, I could not pass up ;)

Glad to hear some one has come up with gold trim that can go into a microwave, but why on a tea pot. Does anyone actually put fine china teapots in the microwave?

    Well hello everyone!

It’s been about 3 weeks since I checked in….We took the kids for a week to beautiful Utah! What a beautiful place…and we’ll be back as soon as we can, because there’s so much we didn’t have time to see! :) After we got back, the Georgia heat and humidity kicked in and made most fragrances a big no-no for me. (Plus, I just out of the habit while I was away).

Anyhoo, I’ve mainly been wearing The Body Shop Satsuma body mist the past few days. We’re supposed to be cooling down some this week, so it’s time to hop back in to scent….. :)

    Anyhoo,

In JM’s Pomegranate Noir, which has a sweet spot about 15-30 minutes after application (it is weirdly synthetic to my nose upon first applying), that fades about 30 minutes after that. It’s the Juicy Fruit Gum of perfumes I guess. I have enjoyed the travel bottle I picked up through an NST swap, but I won’t be replacing it when it is done.

Camelia Chinois today, which lasts okay for a herby tea scent. Topped up with Merveilles Bleue in the late afternoon. Then to Munich to meet the boyfriend. SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

Remnants of last night’s thunderstorms and the sky had been threatening all day with some sprinkles here and there. No.19 to the rescue!

I have a few candidates for the CP and will participate on Friday. One that I will not wear on Friday that qualifies is CdG Red Carnation; IIRC, 4 spritzes lasted 20 minutes. Another one was experienced from a dabber sample: Kilian Flowers of Immortality – practically the entire vial went poof in 2 minutes.

A quiet and cloudy day today, after last night’s crazy and scary weather. 60 – 80 mph winds are no joke. Cell phone service is still not quite behaving right in my area.

SOTD = Diptyque Tempo, from the sample stash and Hajusuuri. Thunk! I enjoyed the sample she provided very much. This perfume is another one that is the total opposite of “Gone in 60 Seconds”, though. Pretty sure that I will be enjoying the far drydown of this one tomorrow morning.

Life has been a little busier than usual lately so I haven’t had much time to check in. One of biggest time-sucks has been that one of our apartments went vacant. We do the usual things between tenants and I think we have a nice place with a lot of charm. A friend told me that we should advertise our place on Facebook Marketplace so I decided to follow her advice. I have been getting multiple inquires every day. What I’ve noticed is that we spend time talking to people. They, mostly, seem nice and fit our criteria so we schedule a showing. Three times in a row people haven’t shown up, they don’t text, call or message to let us know. Is this the way people behave on social media? These people have no manners whatsoever. I confess that FB is not my thing. I’ve never been a social media user before. It’s starting to seem like I am wasting my time. Any thoughts?

SOTD was Cologne du 68, thanks to therabbitsflower!

It’s just that I rush home from work, make dinner, laundry, dishes, etc.. rush, rush rush and then they just don’t show. We live next door so it’s no big deal other than we’re watching and waiting. It bugs me but more for wasting my time. It really sort of fascinates me how rude people feel free to be. Oddly, we’ve had better luck from advertising in a local paper. I may just pull it.
