Almost-Friday, and the 75th anniversary of D-Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in the crisp and bright Imaginary Authors Saint Julep.
Reminder: on 6/7, wear a fragrance by Ineke, Imaginary Authors, il Profumo or i Profumi di Firenze, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter I.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I wanted something crisp and fresh, so I’m wearing Au The Vert.
A great summer scent. You smell good!
Finally I am earning some CP points by wearing Ineke Evening Edged In Gold.
Scent twins!
Ineke Field Notes from Paris.
I do love that one. You smell lovely!
thank you! I don’t reach for it often enough.
In the last drops of my Hermes Kelly Caleche full bottle. I will miss it greatly, but it is not a priority for a back up purchase right now.
Tonight I will meet a friend for dinner and I will wear also the last of my full bottle of Serge Lutens A la Nuit. Two full bottle thunks in a day is a record I don’t see it happening again anytime soon.
Happy almost Friday everyone!
Wow, two thunks in one day!! Congrats!
It is a relief to make a dent in such a big collection!
Woohoo! Congrats!
Thank you! Trying my best.
Wow! What a way to go through two bottles- and you smell terrific!
I am working on full bottles that have very few mls left, before they evaporate. I might try to finish few more spring/summer full bottles before the season is over. Let’s see!
You’re smelling delish all day today!
Thank you!
Wow! 2 in one day! Have a great dinner tonight.
Thank you Lillyjo!
Congrats on your double THUNK! I hope that you had a great time with your friend tonight.
Thank you! We had a very nice time. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, so we had a lot to catch up.
SOTD
Yuzu Rouge
A good pick for a hot day like today….
SipOTD Cafe du Monde french press with steamed milk…if only I had some powdered donuts to eat with this..
Yuzu Rouge is so nice and refreshing. You smell summery good!
I have not seen you so committed to a perfume for many weeks this year, like before. Maybe I missed it?
I will be sad when this sample is finished!
This summer I will be committed to some big white florals
if only….
Yum.
I am a bad Portland person but I love Cafe Du Monde coffee- I think it is the blend with the chicory that gets me. I make mine cold brewed in the summer and serve with plenty of ice and a twist of lemon!
“Bad” as in you don’t meet enough stereotypes? I think it’s good to keep Portlanders on their toes!
Take them by surprise by ordering sweet tea while they sip their kombucha!
Eat some spare ribs next to the vegan restaurant!
Buy a designer outfit to wear to the BBQ (where everyone else is in handmade/Goodwill)!
Drive away in your gas-only SUV! . . . well, maybe not that one. ?
too funny, MR:)
?
HA! I am giggling at work!
I am reminded of something funny: So I was at the Mississippi street fair and there is always BBQ fest. There was a woman there who asked one of the old school gentlemen if he did any vegan dishes. He gave her a pitying look and said “Honey, this is a barbeque!”
Haha! Perfect!
Marjorie Rose you made my day! Hysterical!
My Wowilla body oil arrived yesterday! I’m wearing it on my arms and a bit in my hair, which is frizzing out from the humidity (sigh).
I don’t have much to say about Wowilla other than it’s a pretty linear, straightforward vanilla bomb. It has a balsamic-vanilla feel that reminds me of Le Couvent de Minimes Cologne of the Missions. I like it, but I’ll more likely layer it with other perfumes than wear it as a standalone fragrance (like I do with Amber Flush, which is more complex). Today I’m layering with MCG Hanbury.
I layer all the Tauer oils, except on days when I want something simple or light.
Sometimes linear is good, especially for summer.
Agreed. Sometimes predictability is exactly what I want.
Linear is also great for bedtime scents. You know you’re not gonna miss anything.
I like Wowzilla layered with L’ Artisan’s Patchouli Patch or Kiehl’s Musk Oil. Both are great combos (all three mixed are also great).
Genius! I’ll definitely try with the Kiehl’s Musk.
These all sound like great combos. ?
Still pointless in Un zest de rose by Les parfums de Rosine. I had nearly forgotten just how great this is.
I’ll be in Normandy in less than two weeks, can’t wait.
Lucky you! I miss France.
Me too, but I don’t miss Normandy
it’s been cold every single time I’ve gone, which has usually been in May/June. And often rainy. Sheesh.
I’m lucky enough to be able to go to France a number of times each year. Like all countries it has many flaws, but I just feel so at home there.
Normandy is VERY beautiful, but like Koyel said, it is rainy, so bring a light rain jacket. The trade off is very green countryside, great butter and amazing bread and pastries, and incredible sea food!
And Cheese, and cider and calvados and pommeau!
Remember I’m Dutch; I’m virtually rainproof
And I’ve visited before in all sorts of weather. I just adore that part of France and only 500 km from where I live.
Oh so true! And it’s truly lovely there!
Love Un Zest..you smell fab
I will be pointless tomorrow, I have nothing for the CP
Ahhh, une zeste is great. I still have a bottle I bought once I got a job after a period of unemployment. Once I got it, though, I struggled. Something didn’t work. Set it aside and have enjoyed it much more the past few years. Lovely.
Une Zeste de Rose is a perfect summer rose perfume!
I am in Fendi Theorema Esprit d’Ete.
I so wanted to love Imaginary Authors Saint Julep. The notes are right up my alley. But it was among the few fragrances that I just can’t smell.
Almost all of the IA scents disappear to me in less than an hour to 30 min. Even when I like them, there’s just not enough THERE there justify a purchase.
That one does fade really fast.
It is not the one I’d buy first if I was standing at an IA counter with a fistful of money
Bois De Paradis Parfums Delrae
Oh, you smell delicious!
Love this one.
Gorgeous!
Hiram Green Moon Bloom today. A lovely soul gifted this creamy tuberose to me. I don’t often feel comfortable in tuberose but Moon Bloom is very special.
Have a good day all!
You smell lovely! I plan to get a sample of it when I go to sniff Lustre in a couple of weeks, as I don’t have access to my bottle.
I have had a tuberose awakening over the past handful of years. Moon Bloom is a good one, for sure!
Wearing PdE Aziyadé. Read a FB post yesterday from Fumerie Parfumerie in Portland yesterday that Parfum d’Empire is discontinuing their 100ml bottles – after checking multiple sites, where basically everything is out of stock, it seems true. I surmise they are going to switch to 50ml bottles with a big price increase, given their most recent release, Le Cri de la Lumière, is 50mls for $140 (the 100mls sold for $160). Fie on those price increases. Papillon has done the same.
UGH. On the one hand, I’m glad they’ll be selling smaller amounts. But price per ml going up is no fun at all. They used to offer multiple sizes before they went to the current 100ml bottle. I wonder if they should have kept things the way they were before. My wallet thinks so anyway. I recall the 50ml being around $90.
I thought Papillon’s price went up because I recall the price being $150 or $160 and it’s now $190. Thanks for confirming.
Yes, that’s right – $160 was the old price.
Oh, that is a bummer. Tax increases, maybe?
This is a timely update. Thanks for sharing, Cazaubon.
Well that makes me wonder also if their sales went way down when they stopped making 50 ml sizes?? But who knows.
Wonder if I should try any samples from PdE now?
That seems pricey to me. Now that I’ve acquired umpteen samples of various perfumes, I’m trying to appreciate the cheap ones when I go looking for a bottle. I think travel sizes and small bottles are nice. I think 30 ml of any one perfume would be likely to last me quite some time. I do like some of those perfumes that are $20 or so for an ounce. That’s the kind of price I should be looking for.
I know I have some cute little Ineke samples somewhere, and I’ve got a wonderful travel spray of City on Fire from a wonderful semi-NSTer, but I’m traveling today, so I wanted something that I think smells universally pleasing, or at least inoffensive: the absolutely stunning Jour d’Hermes extrait, also from a very generous NSTer. My decant is almost empty, and if I could be sure of what I’m buying, I’d get a full bottle of it myself. (But the bottle shapes/names vary just a touch too much for me to be sure I’m buying what I’m wearing….) Anyway, I’m 12th on the first class upgrade list, ie, pretty much no hope, so I’ve picked myself up a good-looking pastrami sandwich for lunch on the plane. It looks so yummy that I kind of want to eat it now (it’s 8:30am here). Sigh.
Eeeeeat it! My fave breakfast sandwich is pastrami, eggs, swiss.
Haha you’re a terrible influence! That sounds so good. My tummy is rumbling.
No points tomorrow, as I don’t have any I-perfumes. It will probably be Paris-Riviera as it was my SOTWeek. What a lovely Chanel orange! ?
my bottle should arrive tomorrow! can hardly wait to open!
Chanel 1957 and drinking a cup of white tea. 1957 is very cozy, and I think I will be staying indoors mostly today. It is very dark and rainy here today.
how is 1957?
It is nice. I have a sample, and I will use it up. I will probably not purchase a full bottle when I am finished with it, though.
Sampling Hiram Green’s Lustre day two. Full disclosure – rose is not a favorite note as it often turns sour on my skin. Luckily Lustre doesn’t. I would compare it to a high quality attar – it’s rich and dense and smells like an absolute times 100. I might get more complexity out of it if I transferred it into a spray vial, but from my dabber it’s a soliflore. I think if you’re a straight-up rose lover, you would love this.
Ooh, sounds good to me! I’ll be sure to test it with a big spritz on skin and report my thoughts.
Excellent! I’m looking forward to your impressions!
I’ve liked how *full* HG scents smell to me. This sounds like a good one! (I’m a sucker for a rose.)
Yes, “full” is a perfect descriptor for his scents! I hope you’ll get a chance to try Lustre.
Lustre sounds lovely! Good to hear that you have found a rose scent that plays nice with your chemistry.
Chanel Bel Respiro for day 3 of greens. Nice for the heat and humidity today and it’s my most ideal version of green. Anyone try Cristalle Au Vert? I see comparisons to that on review sites.
I love CdV more than Bel Respiro
Huh. I will have to check it out then.
I love Bel Respiro! I haven’t tried Au Vert, but my impression from reviews is that it is somewhat juicy, and on me Bel Respiro is a very dry green – not crackly dry, but more breeze-swept dry … if that makes any sense.
“Breeze-swept dry” is a perfect description! I love how ethereal it is- I’m liking sheer, veils of scent these days in general.
Oh, that DOES sound nice! Especially with the muggy weather.
It’s perfect for this weather!
Hummingbird from the fresh box of samples that arrived yesterday. So far, very sweet (which I presume was the intent).
I saw your comment about your hubs reaction to short hair ? That would be hard if your partner wouldn’t like it. I’m fortunate that my husband is quite eclectic in his taste (and doesn’t really even notice most changes unless they’re drastic).
Yeah, it pretty much puts the kibosh on that notion. He would never say, “No, absolutely not!” (He knows better than to order me to do/not do anything! Ha!) But, he made it as clear as could be that he would not prefer it, if my hair were suddenly properly short. Maybe next summer? Sometimes ideas grow on him over time. . .
I hope you’re happy with your refreshened ‘do today!
Yeah, maybe do it incrementally if you still want to do it.
Well it’s over and done with. It’s a lot shorter in the back- to the nape. And a fairly severe angle in the front. Almost looks like 2 haircuts. But much cooler (as in temp)!
My husband said I look like Siouxie Sioux, lol. 15 years ago, I might’ve liked that.
LOL! I’m getting a kick out of the Siouxie Sioux reference!
I’m in SMN Eva and loving it. Whoever it was on Perfume Posse who said it “feels like fresh meadows and hay and outdoors and young love and a roadster heading south from Firenze” was pretty much spot-on. I would only add that Eva has a black pepper note that is really delightful amidst the citrus and what I read as (even though it seems to get no mention) orange blossom.
Wow, that description makes me want to just get a bottle!
Glad to hear Eva is still good…I almost bought it about a million times, many moons ago. Wish it came in a travel size!
I wish they all came in travel sizes.
Sadly, it looks like it may have been discontinued. The two sites where I’ve seen it in the past now still carry SMN, but no Eva listed.
My “bottle” is a decant from STC, but they don’t appear to have any Eva left either.
Oh, what a shame!
Remembering the Pearl Harbor vet I met in Napa last year about this time. We crossed paths a couple of times at a local park and got to talking about camper vans, as he was driving a VW van. He saw my ride before and after the high top was installed and was so supportive of a single gal like me hitting the road and exploring.
One of the pros of this lifestyle is randomly meeting fantastic people- in parks, campground, on hikes, or just about anywhere. Here’s a link to the photo of him next to his van: https://www.instagram.com/p/BlZK22UnfdX/?igshid=gxn7jebp9ebx
As for perfume, I’m in Lubin Epidor from a split and it’s in thunking territory. Lovely stuff! If I could get a full bottle for free, I’d snatch it up.?
Oh geez..I love Epidor…did I miss a split on it? Was it an NST split? Sigh. You smell great:)
Yes, a while back, can’t remeber when but probably with the last year or so here? Mals did a split, sorry you missed it. It is gorgeous stuff!
Deva,
My sisters’ patients at the VA made us promise to visit Pearl on our way home from Asia for the 60th anniversary. There was a vet who had died and his ashes along with leis were spread that morning at the memorial. It was very special to be there with his family.
We had visited Hiroshima just the prior week.
It’s good to have these places to go to say and pray for never again.
What a great picture…..and Epidor is a great scent too!
Love the pic Deva and you smell fab!
I remember your original post about that meeting. It was rather impressive.
Hey It’s Thursday!
Am in Amelie Mae after a shower in Red Roses soap.
Looking forward to a rainy weekend- I have so much weeding and mulching to do!
I am going home from the beach tomorrow, and suspect I have weeding and cleaning and laundry and grocery shopping all in my immediate future
SOTD is the last spritzes of Safari by Ralph Lauren. Tomorrow, I’ll start on finishing my Chanel No. 19 EDP.
Trying to whittle down the collection, it makes sense to finish up less-full bottles and decants first.
I should really finish off some dwindling decants before they evaporate on me.
I am also doing the same with some of my full bottles that I really like and that are running very, very low. I want to enjoy them before they evaporate
Ohhh, I hate it when that happens! That happened to my older bottle of Tauer’s Un Rose Chypree, I lost about 25% to evaporation, it was thick as molasses (call it a super super extrait!).
Oh no! Terrible! But it is impossible to wear all the perfumes we have often, due to the amount we have. I need to go thru my collection once again and see what is less than 1/4 to bring it to the front of the cabinet and try to finish it. I am scare that some of my favorites will just disappear one of these days, without me even noticing. ?
The old wood caps on URC were not a good fit, in my experience. I’ve nearly drained my original bottle, in any case, but every time I’d cap it, I would feel like I was spraying a bit out as I nestled it back into place.
Marjorie Rose, I got that same impression also – but my cats and bedroom sure smelled nice!
I toweled dried my hair with my t-shirt this morning
Sweet! As time goes on, your curly pattern may become more defined and less frizz.
Every curly girl is unique, I think I do better if I leave more moisture on my hair, others need to blot – everyone is different I guess!
I started T-shirt drying my hair when Dr. Oz or The Doctors mentioned it as better for hair. I found out that it actually made my hair very smooth and lifeless. I switched back to roughing up my hair with a regular towel.
I have fine hair that needs a bit of extra texture. I’m definitely sticking with towels!
I had planned to wear Idyllwild at some point this week but today I had a craving for Heure Exquise that could not be denied.
I still need to try this one.
Commando for now..cravin cinnamon though..
Had a craving for no 19 edp today and wearing it for backbone. We are in vacation season at work and my work schedule is kicking my butt.
Twins!
Prada Infusion Oeillet. Smelling a bit fecal to me, oddly enough.
Huh…that is a surprise from a Prada Infusion.
Yeah. Unexpected and didn’t last. Must have been just a moment…
A very British weather today, clouds, a shower and this evening the sun is shining but it’s rather windy. I’m in Christian Dior Dune EDT.
Dune is so wonderful!
Oh you love it too, I don’t reach for it often, but I enjoy it tremendously when I’m in the mood.
I’m the same. I used to wear it all the time when it first came out. I just have a mini now.
It was very moving hearing vets talking this morning on the radio, speaking little of themselves and always acknowledging those who died on that momentous day. The British part of me proud (especially of my father twice decorated) and the French part rather ashamed.
Stand proud, Aurora.
Thank you for your kind words, Lillyjo
You have no reason to be ashamed Aurora.
Thank you Jalapeno, most of France was apathetic though during the German occupation, and I can’t help but feel that it wasn’t right.
Hello Y’all….chugging along at work and ready to go home….
I was wearing Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, but it literally disappeared less than an hour after spraying? I can only smell if my nose is directly on the spot where I sprayed it. Not a fan of this one for that reason. This was my first purchase from Scent Twist (a monthly subscription service), so we’ll see if my next pick is more exciting!
It is the most fleeting of the Guerlain colognes, it is very pretty though. And it is a real cologne, they were never meant to last.
SOTD is Calligraphy Rose – a jammy, yet slightly spicy rose that reminds me of Keiko Mecheri’s Gourmandises, but with a bit more depth and darkness.
I’m feeling like I have the necessary gumption to start cleaning up my home office today. Throughout every semester, the office just gets more and more cluttered. All the horizontal surfaces start to disappear, and the closet gets stuffed with whatever I can’t stand to have sitting around in plain sight. I might not make it to Kondo-land, but there will definitely be some clearing out of excess, unnecessary stuff.
Happy Thursday, all.
You smell great! Good luck with your office cleaning. ?
Ha! Sometimes Kondo-Land is overrated. The good thing is that no matter how little you downsize, you feel 10x lighter! Good luck, and don’t worry if you only end up getting rid of half a bag- it’s still less than it was before.
I’m also on a downsizing journey. Clothesbwill be tackled first, inspired by surviving on wearig a certain style / look of clothing, just in different colors. In true hajusuuri style, I believe J have all the colors plus 3 of the white.
Good luck to us!
I started out the morning in Arcana Rosa, by L’Artisan, from a sample. I found out yesterday that the Saks in Houston will soon not carry the line in the store anymore. The SA indicated the tester bottles would remain in the store, but I’m not sure I believe that part. Of course, I loved Arcana Rosa, and of course it’s more pricey than the regular line.
Switched to Lagerfeld cologne, from a vintage sample unearthed from my folks’ bathroom cabinets. The clean out continues…..
That’s really annoying when the perfume you like turns out to be either a) limited edition, or b) expensive! Or even worse, both!
Imaginary Authors O Unknown today from a sample spray. Not sure what my verdict is on this yet.
I’ve had a hectic week. I’m wearing No. 19 edp for a day off, and an unexpected trip to the dentist for my daughter. So far, so good with my son’s trip to Milwaukee. He will be home tonight.
You got through it! And you smell fab and ready to take on anything!
Yes! And I’m so proud of him. This really was such a big step forward ?
Congrats on keeping it all together and you’re smelling great too!
Thanks, Petunia!
You smell so elegant, and so glad your son had a good trip.
Thank you. He’s still on the road, but I’m breathing easier with each mile towards home.
Glad to hear that your son’s trip went well! You will sleep better tonight, won’t you. ?
Absolutely!
Logging in late to tell the world that I am wearing PPC Vientiane. Usually it just smells like a nice hippie sandalwood but today I’m getting banana chips, who can explain these things.
I smelled Vientiane at PP and got a woody vanilla and sandalwood. It’s a nice scent.
Thunked my whole sample of Jardin sur Le Nil today, glad it is gone. Its nice, but i dont need more
Time for summer scents where you are at, it sounds like.
Scent this afternoon: Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom. That seemed like a nice cooling perfume for a hot and humid day.
SOTD = April Aromatics Irisistible
I = Indie
Decisions decisions for tomorrow!
In other news…I mentioned going to y cousin’s daughrer’s wedding last Saturday. I meant to share that many people wore some shade of blue! Is this the norm for a June wedding or is it trending? The most recent wedding I attended prior to this was my niece’s in August 2017 out in Portland, OR and I did not notice any prevalent colors.
I’m no help since it’s been over 5 years since I’ve been to a wedding. What color did you wear?
I ended up with blue not because of the color but because of the dress style and fit. My younger sister wore blue (she wore the same dress for another wedding earlier this year) while my older sister wore black (!) with a nice wrap outlined with gold and silver Hellenic symbols.
Blue at weddings is new to me. Then again, the last one I went to was in 2015. Since it was on Halloween, I went in costume! And yes, the bride and groom had mentioned that costumes were OK on the invite.
Super busy work day so a quick check in. I’m in Ineke Sweet William from my adorable little bottle inside a book. The fill level was kinda alarming though. It seems to be evaporating kinda rapidly unless I’m not correctly remembering where it was at when I wore it a few months ago.
Corpse flower was very disappointing last night. It had already closed and finished blooming at 4 p.m. They didn’t disclose that in advance or even as people stood in line. We waited in line for almost an hour to see a non-stinky closed plant. It remains on the bucket list. The people in front of us were late to a house showing because of the long wait.
Oh drat!!!
Aw, what a bummer!
Aw, how disappointing. Too bad they couldn’t let people know as they stood in line.
While I’m sorry you’re disappointed at not seeing the bloom of the corpse flower, that’s never been a goal of mine to do. I’d just as soon skip the smell of death when I can. I hope you’ll have another opportunity because that’s what you want.
I would have made a big stink!
? I saw what you did there!!
Super busy day at work and super late to post. Scattered showers predicted today so Satori! Thanks to ElisaP. I’m so happy to have a large decant in my collection and, hey, it boasts an “I”. This is probably as much as I can participate in the cp since I do not have so much as a sample from these houses. Phew, so glad to be home.
I don’t have any I’s either.
I have only one “I” sample, and depending on my mood, may or may not wear it tomorrow.
Whoops! Posting late today. I kind of had a feeling that was going to happen, since lunch was late, too.
I’m thinking about 2 of my uncles today: Johnnie and Jake. Both of them served in the Second World War, came home, went back to civilian life and raised families. They didn’t talk much about what happened “over there”.
SOTD = Diptyque Tempo again. Still smells great!
You’re a good niece to pay homage to them, and Tempo sounds great.
Thanks, Aurora. Tempo is a lovely summer-weight patchouli to my nose, so if you like that note, it could well be worth a sniff.
It’s really amazing how that generation transitioned so seemingly well to civilian life. It was a different time, for sure.
It was indeed a different time. The bits and pieces I know about my uncles’ war service were gleaned from other relatives.
Smellin’ great! Thank the uncles for their service.
Oops, I just saw they passed!
I bet that they would appreciate the sentiment, if they were still around. No worries!
I had several of those uncles and my fIL who passed away at th age of 92 last December as well. They were part of an amazing generation.
Oops, this was meant for Jalapeno.
My uncles both passed away quite a while ago. I have the Marine Service Corps pin of one of them in my jewelry box.
NV Bombay Bling today from the traveling box of perfume. There is a sample of Ineke Hothouse Flowers in there, and I liked it enough to order my own discovery set which arrived today, so I will have plenty of choices for tomorrow.
Wearing over 1/2 of a sample of Heeley Iris de Nuit from my new sample stash. I almost spilled the whole thing on me, so I might as well finish it at bedtime.
I was so busy today that I must not have even had all my coffee in the morning; I usually drain it quickly, then have tea in the rest of the day. I took a big sip after lunch and got a mouthful of cold coffee. Shockingly, it was actually very good! Kept me going!
Wow, that IS busy when you don’t finish your morning caffeine!
