Thursday scent of the day 6/6

Posted by Robin on 6 June 2019 190 Comments

Almost-Friday, and the 75th anniversary of D-Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in the crisp and bright Imaginary Authors Saint Julep.

Reminder: on 6/7, wear a fragrance by Ineke, Imaginary Authors, il Profumo or i Profumi di Firenze, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter I.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I wanted something crisp and fresh, so I’m wearing Au The Vert.

In the last drops of my Hermes Kelly Caleche full bottle. I will miss it greatly, but it is not a priority for a back up purchase right now.
Tonight I will meet a friend for dinner and I will wear also the last of my full bottle of Serge Lutens A la Nuit. Two full bottle thunks in a day is a record I don’t see it happening again anytime soon.

    Happy almost Friday everyone!

      Yum.

I am a bad Portland person but I love Cafe Du Monde coffee- I think it is the blend with the chicory that gets me. I make mine cold brewed in the summer and serve with plenty of ice and a twist of lemon!

“Bad” as in you don’t meet enough stereotypes? I think it’s good to keep Portlanders on their toes!

Take them by surprise by ordering sweet tea while they sip their kombucha!

Eat some spare ribs next to the vegan restaurant!

Buy a designer outfit to wear to the BBQ (where everyone else is in handmade/Goodwill)!

Drive away in your gas-only SUV! . . . well, maybe not that one. ?

I am reminded of something funny: So I was at the Mississippi street fair and there is always BBQ fest. There was a woman there who asked one of the old school gentlemen if he did any vegan dishes. He gave her a pitying look and said “Honey, this is a barbeque!”

My Wowilla body oil arrived yesterday! I’m wearing it on my arms and a bit in my hair, which is frizzing out from the humidity (sigh).

I don’t have much to say about Wowilla other than it’s a pretty linear, straightforward vanilla bomb. It has a balsamic-vanilla feel that reminds me of Le Couvent de Minimes Cologne of the Missions. I like it, but I’ll more likely layer it with other perfumes than wear it as a standalone fragrance (like I do with Amber Flush, which is more complex). Today I’m layering with MCG Hanbury.

Normandy is VERY beautiful, but like Koyel said, it is rainy, so bring a light rain jacket. The trade off is very green countryside, great butter and amazing bread and pastries, and incredible sea food!

Wearing PdE Aziyadé. Read a FB post yesterday from Fumerie Parfumerie in Portland yesterday that Parfum d’Empire is discontinuing their 100ml bottles – after checking multiple sites, where basically everything is out of stock, it seems true. I surmise they are going to switch to 50ml bottles with a big price increase, given their most recent release, Le Cri de la Lumière, is 50mls for $140 (the 100mls sold for $160). Fie on those price increases. Papillon has done the same. :-(

UGH. On the one hand, I’m glad they’ll be selling smaller amounts. But price per ml going up is no fun at all. They used to offer multiple sizes before they went to the current 100ml bottle. I wonder if they should have kept things the way they were before. My wallet thinks so anyway. I recall the 50ml being around $90.

I thought Papillon’s price went up because I recall the price being $150 or $160 and it’s now $190. Thanks for confirming.

That seems pricey to me. Now that I’ve acquired umpteen samples of various perfumes, I’m trying to appreciate the cheap ones when I go looking for a bottle. I think travel sizes and small bottles are nice. I think 30 ml of any one perfume would be likely to last me quite some time. I do like some of those perfumes that are $20 or so for an ounce. That’s the kind of price I should be looking for. :)

I know I have some cute little Ineke samples somewhere, and I’ve got a wonderful travel spray of City on Fire from a wonderful semi-NSTer, but I’m traveling today, so I wanted something that I think smells universally pleasing, or at least inoffensive: the absolutely stunning Jour d’Hermes extrait, also from a very generous NSTer. My decant is almost empty, and if I could be sure of what I’m buying, I’d get a full bottle of it myself. (But the bottle shapes/names vary just a touch too much for me to be sure I’m buying what I’m wearing….) Anyway, I’m 12th on the first class upgrade list, ie, pretty much no hope, so I’ve picked myself up a good-looking pastrami sandwich for lunch on the plane. It looks so yummy that I kind of want to eat it now (it’s 8:30am here). Sigh.

Sampling Hiram Green’s Lustre day two. Full disclosure – rose is not a favorite note as it often turns sour on my skin. Luckily Lustre doesn’t. I would compare it to a high quality attar – it’s rich and dense and smells like an absolute times 100. I might get more complexity out of it if I transferred it into a spray vial, but from my dabber it’s a soliflore. I think if you’re a straight-up rose lover, you would love this.

I love Bel Respiro! I haven’t tried Au Vert, but my impression from reviews is that it is somewhat juicy, and on me Bel Respiro is a very dry green – not crackly dry, but more breeze-swept dry … if that makes any sense.

I saw your comment about your hubs reaction to short hair ? That would be hard if your partner wouldn’t like it. I’m fortunate that my husband is quite eclectic in his taste (and doesn’t really even notice most changes unless they’re drastic).

Yeah, it pretty much puts the kibosh on that notion. He would never say, “No, absolutely not!” (He knows better than to order me to do/not do anything! Ha!) But, he made it as clear as could be that he would not prefer it, if my hair were suddenly properly short. Maybe next summer? Sometimes ideas grow on him over time. . .

I hope you’re happy with your refreshened ‘do today!

Yeah, maybe do it incrementally if you still want to do it.
Well it’s over and done with. It’s a lot shorter in the back- to the nape. And a fairly severe angle in the front. Almost looks like 2 haircuts. But much cooler (as in temp)!
My husband said I look like Siouxie Sioux, lol. 15 years ago, I might’ve liked that.

I’m in SMN Eva and loving it. Whoever it was on Perfume Posse who said it “feels like fresh meadows and hay and outdoors and young love and a roadster heading south from Firenze” was pretty much spot-on. I would only add that Eva has a black pepper note that is really delightful amidst the citrus and what I read as (even though it seems to get no mention) orange blossom.

Sadly, it looks like it may have been discontinued. The two sites where I’ve seen it in the past now still carry SMN, but no Eva listed. :( My “bottle” is a decant from STC, but they don’t appear to have any Eva left either.

Remembering the Pearl Harbor vet I met in Napa last year about this time. We crossed paths a couple of times at a local park and got to talking about camper vans, as he was driving a VW van. He saw my ride before and after the high top was installed and was so supportive of a single gal like me hitting the road and exploring.

One of the pros of this lifestyle is randomly meeting fantastic people- in parks, campground, on hikes, or just about anywhere. Here’s a link to the photo of him next to his van: https://www.instagram.com/p/BlZK22UnfdX/?igshid=gxn7jebp9ebx

As for perfume, I’m in Lubin Epidor from a split and it’s in thunking territory. Lovely stuff! If I could get a full bottle for free, I’d snatch it up.?

      Deva,
My sisters’ patients at the VA made us promise to visit Pearl on our way home from Asia for the 60th anniversary. There was a vet who had died and his ashes along with leis were spread that morning at the memorial. It was very special to be there with his family.
We had visited Hiroshima just the prior week.
It’s good to have these places to go to say and pray for never again.

SOTD is the last spritzes of Safari by Ralph Lauren. Tomorrow, I’ll start on finishing my Chanel No. 19 EDP.

Trying to whittle down the collection, it makes sense to finish up less-full bottles and decants first.

Oh no! Terrible! But it is impossible to wear all the perfumes we have often, due to the amount we have. I need to go thru my collection once again and see what is less than 1/4 to bring it to the front of the cabinet and try to finish it. I am scare that some of my favorites will just disappear one of these days, without me even noticing. ?

The old wood caps on URC were not a good fit, in my experience. I’ve nearly drained my original bottle, in any case, but every time I’d cap it, I would feel like I was spraying a bit out as I nestled it back into place.

I was wearing Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat, but it literally disappeared less than an hour after spraying? I can only smell if my nose is directly on the spot where I sprayed it. SOTD is Calligraphy Rose – a jammy, yet slightly spicy rose that reminds me of Keiko Mecheri’s Gourmandises, but with a bit more depth and darkness.

I’m feeling like I have the necessary gumption to start cleaning up my home office today. Throughout every semester, the office just gets more and more cluttered. All the horizontal surfaces start to disappear, and the closet gets stuffed with whatever I can’t stand to have sitting around in plain sight. I might not make it to Kondo-land, but there will definitely be some clearing out of excess, unnecessary stuff.

    Happy Thursday, all.

Ha! Sometimes Kondo-Land is overrated. The good thing is that no matter how little you downsize, you feel 10x lighter! Good luck, and don’t worry if you only end up getting rid of half a bag- it’s still less than it was before.

I’m also on a downsizing journey. Clothesbwill be tackled first, inspired by surviving on wearig a certain style / look of clothing, just in different colors. In true hajusuuri style, I believe J have all the colors plus 3 of the white.

      Good luck to us!

I started out the morning in Arcana Rosa, by L’Artisan, from a sample. I found out yesterday that the Saks in Houston will soon not carry the line in the store anymore. The SA indicated the tester bottles would remain in the store, but I’m not sure I believe that part. Of course, I loved Arcana Rosa, and of course it’s more pricey than the regular line.

Switched to Lagerfeld cologne, from a vintage sample unearthed from my folks’ bathroom cabinets. The clean out continues…..

I ended up with blue not because of the color but because of the dress style and fit. My younger sister wore blue (she wore the same dress for another wedding earlier this year) while my older sister wore black (!) with a nice wrap outlined with gold and silver Hellenic symbols.

Super busy work day so a quick check in. I’m in Ineke Sweet William from my adorable little bottle inside a book. The fill level was kinda alarming though. It seems to be evaporating kinda rapidly unless I’m not correctly remembering where it was at when I wore it a few months ago.

Corpse flower was very disappointing last night. It had already closed and finished blooming at 4 p.m. They didn’t disclose that in advance or even as people stood in line. We waited in line for almost an hour to see a non-stinky closed plant. It remains on the bucket list. The people in front of us were late to a house showing because of the long wait.

I bet that they would appreciate the sentiment, if they were still around. No worries!

I had several of those uncles and my fIL who passed away at th age of 92 last December as well. They were part of an amazing generation.

My uncles both passed away quite a while ago. I have the Marine Service Corps pin of one of them in my jewelry box.

NV Bombay Bling today from the traveling box of perfume. There is a sample of Ineke Hothouse Flowers in there, and I liked it enough to order my own discovery set which arrived today, so I will have plenty of choices for tomorrow.

Wearing over 1/2 of a sample of Heeley Iris de Nuit from my new sample stash. I almost spilled the whole thing on me, so I might as well finish it at bedtime.

I was so busy today that I must not have even had all my coffee in the morning; I usually drain it quickly, then have tea in the rest of the day. I took a big sip after lunch and got a mouthful of cold coffee. Shockingly, it was actually very good! Kept me going!

Wow, that IS busy when you don’t finish your morning caffeine!
