And now it's Tuesday, and World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm thunking my sample of Olivier Durbano Pink Quartz, and I've churched it up a bit with a dab of Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline, for Bob Dylan's Every Grain of Sand, 1981. (Rolling Stone places it at #10 on their list of the 100 best Bob Dylan songs.)
Reminder: 5/24 is Bob Dylan's birthday. Match a fragrance to a Bob Dylan song, OR, tell us who YOUR favorite musical artist is and match a fragrance to one of his/her/their songs.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the teapot by Signe Persson Melin for Rörstrand, Sweden, 1970s, is $910.92 at 1stdibs.
Aventus Creed from an eight ml decant.
Meh, perfect for the cp.
🙂
Hello Bear!
Buongiorno Lovestosmellgood !
Ha! Good one.
And B. I’ve not smelled Aventus, was wondering if you could tell me why it is on such a high pedestal with the YouTube fragrance folks?
Creed fanboys. It’s a bro thing.
Ah, thanks. I didn’t know there was such a thing.
Le Labo Ambrette 9. I needed a soft, simple, comfy, quiet, scent today.
I have not tried this one, but it sounds like it’s a soft, clean musky scent. Comfy and quiet indeed.
It is mostly musk with a very slight touch of fruits. Very relaxing and peaceful.
I love Le Labo’s Ambrette. For the same but it’s less expensive, I enjoy Bulgari’s Au the Blanc.
I have never tried Au de Blanc, but I will, next time I go to Sephora. It is good to know it also works as a comfy scent!
I hope you have a good day PL67!
You too Lillyjo! ?
You smell great! I agree, it’s a comforting, easy scent.
Thank you! ?
I have another Dylan-Kilian pairing. Many people say that the names of Kilian scents are cheesy, but they work so well for projects like this one. 🙂
Scent: Sweet Redemption.
Song: I Shall Be Released
Plus the shot of bitterness works for the theme.
I did not think of it when choosing the scent, but it’s a ggod point.
Perfect!
Continuing what is turning into a Naomi Goodsir week in Iris Cendre.
Ooh, house twins!
Beautiful!
I’m in Or du Serail today, after having a frustration dream that featured an unsuccessful hunt for that bottle. My brain keeps trying to find a Dylan connection, but I’m afraid it is not to be – I seriously doubt that Bob played to small gatherings of pipe-smoking, maitai-drinking jazz fans snacking on dried mangos.
You smell magnificent!
And your description of that imaginary concert made laugh! 😀
HA!
This CP is hard for me too..
Sign me up to attend that gig!
Interesting, I get pineapple rather than mango. But I sure do love Or du Sérail! That’s next up for me tomorrow.
L’Ombre Dans L’Eau today.
Yum, I should wear that this week.
Beautiful!
I love that one so much. You smell great.
Omnia today (Somedays I can’t smell it after 30min-1hour but I think that is why I love it)
Can’t think of any Dylan songs to match this one too..
Because of all the spices in this one, I am thinking something by Diana Krall, and her deep, sultry, delicious, sexy voice.
In a Chanel lippy that someone recommended on here to me when I was looking for a red lipstick.
That’s exactly why it is not in my rotation – I love the spicy saffron, but after about an hour I can’t smell a thing.
I am sure it’s there..but I can’t smell it either!
Strange, but that’s one of the reasons I love it. I think because I can spray with abandon and not worry about giving myself a headache.
Dilettante!
I’m envious that you appear to have weather that would make Dilettante appropriate. It’s so cold here that the idea of Dilettante right now is just disappointing.
So bright and happy!
Smelling great!
You smell fab!
Byredo La Selle, from a sampler set of the three leather themed purple bottles. I really like it, especially when worn with my leather blazer 🙂
I find all three leathers very attractive actually. Since the full bottle price is outrageous and I use perfume in minuscule quantities, maybe i will just buy a couple more sampler sets.. (the per-ml price of the sampler is a steal compared to the bottles, ha!)
Ahhhh you smell fantastic! Where have you found this sampler set?
Byredo direct! It’s 3 x 2ml each of the leather scents for $30, which you can use as credit for fragrance purchases.
If that matters to you, the vials aren’t quite full (2/3-3/4?) so you’re probably not getting the full 2ml, but it’s still much more reasonable than $550 for 30ml..
Ooooh. It matters to me if they SAY they’re 2mL samples because they are lying and that’s upsetting, but it sure is a way more affordable and reasonable option. Thanks for the rec!
I am wearing Guerlain Insolence and drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Love that one , the EdP or EDT?
edt 🙂
Okay. Bear with me. I’m playing:
I’m wearing Knowing, which is a staple of my winter perfume wardrobe because it is raining cats and dogs outside and I need something cozy…
Now, fun fact, Bob Dylan once proposed marriage to Mavis Staples! Got that? Winter staple and Mavis Staples turning down Bob Dylan?
And in other news, while it is raining cats and dogs outside, our orange kitten is beating the hell out of our sweet big, grey tabby boy–lots of growls and hissing and lumps of fur flying through the air. Oy!! I’ll separate them, but golly I wish our beautiful kitten was nicer to the old boy!
Poor grey tabby boy! Hope he got at least one lick in.
I’ve heard Mavis tell that story somewhere–I want to say she actually turned him down *several* times! She spoke of him with such fondness, all the same.
I heard this too! Mavis Staple interview/chat on 6 music, what a nice lady.
I adore Knowing! You smell lovely :~)
Yikes, has this always been the case? Perhaps try separating and reintroducing them slowly, by smell first and see how it goes?
We’ve tried everything. Separate food, separate litter boxes, separate rooms at night, and separated as much as humanly possible during the day. But there is always the chaos of the morning with two teenage boys opening and slamming doors hurrying to get to school, etc. when the little cat tracks down the big one and chases and chases him mercilessly. When he catches him he bites him as hard as can on the back haunches, neck, ears . . . We’ve belled the little one, and removed the bell that was on the big one–to warn birds… The kitten is just a bully. Cute as all be, but a bully with our big dopey tabby–who is happiest on his back stretched out so that passers by will rub his belly. The kitten is utterly charming and friendly with humans, who when they meet him do not believe he turns into Edward Hyde when ever the other cat approaches.
OMG–we tried belling our little kitten when he was attacking the older kitties, and it gave one of our kitties PTSD triggered by bells ringing, I swear! Every time he’d hear a bell, he’d run for the hills, like he was about to be attacked.
So, yeah, that didn’t work. ?
Sadly, our grey tabby isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. I’m not even sure he’s really cottoned on to the early warning system. Sigh!
Oh, so sorry. How a bout feliway cat pheromones? I use the spray and plug-ins, which add a calming effect to the environment (I wish it worked for humans!).
We have two cats in the same situation, they don’t get along, and we’re in a small 1br apartment. *sigh*
I hope your furry babies learn to get along soon.
Feliway? I spent about $160 on Feliway for the first few months of their co-habitation. Too expensive to refill all the plugs, and it didn’t make a difference…
I feel like the kitten is like the baby in the Incredibles—he is so so so CUTE! And can be so terrifying….
Maybe the kitten needs a little catnip or CBD oil to chill him out. 🙂
Actually, it doesn’t chill out the kitten, but it does chill out the big’un. When it isn’t bucketing rain, he will spend literally hours rolling around in the “Nepeta” that grows in front of the house (hence, ours rarely blooms, so flattened by the cat it never gets the chance!). It is definitely his happy place!
I did not know that story — I guess I need to read a biography one of these days. But she opened for him when I saw him in concert a couple years ago.
No CP for me. My brain just freezes up on this one.
Robin, your “grain of sand” was very clever!
My personal project of the week: 5 days of Zoologist. Yesterday was Civet, today Elephant.
Do you have a favorite Zoologist?
Bat is my favorite so far, but I haven’t skin tested everything yet. Also in the running: Elephant, Beaver, Rhino, Camel, Civet. T-Rex is nice too but it would only be an occasional indulgence.
I find all the Zoologists interesting though! No scrubbers, though Dodo didn’t do it for me, I don’t even need to skin test it. Too baby powdery for me.
Ooh yeah, agreed that T-Rex would have to be an occasional indulgence. It is…very much. Glad you’re finding the series so interesting 🙂
Wearing a few dabs of Riddle Oil (Original) today. Didn’t know what to think of it when I first got it, but it’s grown on me quite a bit. Cozy stuff.
What does it smell like?
Robin, it’s mostly a blend of musks with the tiniest bit of amber. It actually doesn’t read as a proper perfume…it’s more of a pleasant smell if that makes any sense. It’s similar to Essential Faith oil, but without the briny, ozonic angle and much easier on the wallet. I bought the 3 ml roll on and it’s lasted for months.
Interesting. I am mildly amused by their insistence that it has the special property of smelling different on everyone, since all perfumes have that property, and basic musks even more so 🙂
But it is nice to have a basic musk. I keep meaning to get myself another little bottle of Body Time Egyptian Musk and then I never remember.
LADDM today, because it’s cold and wet again. At least it’s giving me another chance to wear my glorious cold weather scents!
You smell gorgeous!
Thanks, I think so too!
I haven’t tried your SOTD but the note list is pretty attractive! What warming choices we are wearing for May >.>
I’ve just about drained my “explorer” size of that one. Really need to buy a proper bottle of it one of these days!
Ooh yes. The fact that you’ve gone through the smaller size means you really must!
You smell amazing!!
Thank you 🙂
Smelling perfect!
Thank you! You too!
Great choice. 🙂
And a HUGE thank-you to you for providing me with said choice! It has served me magnificently on many cold days.
LAdDM is the ultimate Tauer scent in my book, although Le Maroc pour Elle is a very close second.
Based on the note list, I thought I’d love LMPE…but when I tried it a couple years ago, I thought it was AWFUL! I wonder if it was just that days weather? It was in a shop, so it probably hadn’t gone bad. I don’t know what the deal was. But I’m glad LMPE works for you! I agree that LADDM is the ultimate Tauer 🙂 though Au Coeur du Desert is quite good, too, IMO!
SOTD is Laura Mercier’s Minuit Enchante – spices, labdanum, myrrh, amber, benzoin, resins, vanilla. Just hits the spot today.
It sounds good!
I bet you smell lovely, I have Laura Mercier Lumiere d’Ambre which has become my favorite amber light.
I adore that one! I had the Ambre oil ages ago, it was super rich and lasted forever on skin. I wish she would release these again, like a special holiday set?
Well that just went on my sample list!
Taking advantage of the morning’s cooler temps in 10 Corso Como.
That’s a lovely one. I haven’t worn it in a while, though, because the sprayer on my bottle stopped working a few months ago, and I’ve been too busy-lazy-busy-lazy to do anything about it.
I’ve got a wonky sprayer on another bottle (not the 10 CC) to deal with, too. I know there are intrepid souls here who have pried off sprayers/tops and decanted the juice into other bottles — but I admit I’m a leeeetle chicken about trying it myself.
And you should know that you’ve created a persistent lemming with that Calligraphy Saffron you wrote about last week. 🙂 I feel a blind-buy coming on…
I could pry the top off the 10CC and decant it into another bottle, but that would require work (and acquiring an empty bottle). Since it is sitting on a shelf with a hundred other bottles, it just doesn’t seem that urgent.
In re the Calligraphy Saffron, send me your details, and I’ll get a sample vial off to you, so that you don’t have to blind buy it. It’s in the 50 buck range, so it’s not a “same price as my morning latte” kinda bargain. You can reach me at lisadarty in the land of the haute mayle.
Oh, that’s awfully kind; thank you!
Trying out Smell Bent Lady Gogo today. Peppery neroli that fades into green.
Do you enjoy it or no?
It’s okay! Not bad but not terribly exciting. Fine for work.
Now that I’ve realized what the CP is, I think I’ll have fun playing along this week. Who doesn’t like Dylan?
So, I’m pairing Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” with Eau de Crypt, aka Chypre Mousse. They seemed like A Nice Pair, which is a not so oblique reference to another band… can you name that band?…?
Aahhh! You got me, Deva, you got me. I couldn’t stop myself from looking it up. ??
Lillyjo, I thought for SURE you would get this! You are THE SOURCE of all rock and roll knowledge! ???
Believe me, my head is hanging. I must be losing it!
No,no my dear! Just a Momentary Lapse of Reason! ??
Ha! I got that one?
Me
Bear, do you like his stuff if he’s not singing it? Is it his voice or the whole bag you don’t like?
Everything.
Got ya! Looking forward to seeing your clever CP pairings this week! ??
??
google searching…
?
Well, Miss Deva, I can’t answer your second question, but I can answer your first: me, neither (I’m joining Bear)!
And I don’t think I can do the CP this week (although I usually try to play along even if I don’t manage to post about it), because doesn’t that mean I would have to wear scents I don’t like? ?
Ok, I understand. He’s a bit polarizing, no? Maybe that’s one of the reasons I like him, although I’m not a diehard fan. As I got older, my appreciation grew. Same with Chypre Mousse. Very polarizing fragrance from what I’ve read on this blog. I have a great admiration for people (and perfumes!) that go their own way, even if it’s not the direction I’m headed in personally. I think it takes courage to step off a well trod trail and find your own route.
So I’m tipping my hat to Dylan and CM!
Oh, dear, I hope I haven’t offended. My sincere apologies if so. I will tip my hat along with you, and find my sample of Chypre Mousse to wear. ?
Good golly, no! What’s to be offended about? ?
Thanks, Deva. One never knows these days! ?
The “Miss Deva” was misjudged as well. ?
It’s sunny and kind of perfect today- cooler than yesterday but still warm. I’m in Acca Kappa Calycanthus which is a very pretty jasmine.
Please send some sun to me!
Sending… Hope it gets there!
I like that one 🙂
It was a gorgeous day today! Hoping for more of the same over the long holiday weekend.
Hello Y’all….
Been away for a few days….My hubs has left for a 5 week trip to Tanzania! He’ll be teaching IT technology at the University of Moshi, and doing all sorts of fun cultural stuff including a safari and trip to Zanzibar. I will miss him, but hoping he has the experience of a lifetime!
Anyhoo, back in boring ol’ Atlanta….wearing Yves Rocher My Green Summer. I really like it a lot…the lemon is pretty true-to-life (no furniture polish thing going on), and the mint is nice and fresh. Longevity is meh, but it’s a $20 EdT, so it’s OK by me….
Have a great day everyone….just ONE MORE SCHOOL DAY here! YAHOO!!!!
That’s super exciting for your husband!
5 weeks in Tanzania teaching?? Holy &^%$%*_)_))(^*&!!!
I am feeling deep jealousy. Wow. What an opportunity.
You are a good spouse. Hope you get some fun nights out with your gals and get to do things that you would normally not have much opportunity to do.
That sounds awesome! Will you get a chance to visit for any of his stay there?
Unfortunately I will not get to sneak over there….I’ve got to keep the 3 teenagers and multiple pets organized and all that stuff! LOL 🙂
Maybe if there’s a next time?
Wow. No chance of you hitching a ride on that trip?! Sounds incredible! I lived in Madagascar for a semester in college, and Tanzania was *so close*, I tried to come up with a way to fly over for a little Serengeti adventure. . . but I was pretty sick at the end of the trip, so it was not to be.
Happy end of the school year! You must start in August to be done already, yes?
I can’t get over there, but he told me that the local pharmacy had some affordable perfumes from Dubai…and would I like a bottle???? UH…………YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! HA HA Hoping a scented souvenir comes my way! 🙂
If there’s ever a next time, I hope I could make it work to go!
YES! And hopefully he has some idea of what you like, or at least what he likes isn’t too far off of what you do? The dear Mr. Spicebomb doesn’t have very sophisticated tastes, but I rarely dislike things that he enjoys. ?
I told him to pick whatever he likes….and you’re right…that is risky! HA HA
His favorite scent on me is Alien….which I don’t particularly love at all. But he really likes it, so occasionally I spritz a bit on just for him! 🙂
No safari for me….this time? If he ever goes again, I might have to try and make it happen! Too many teenagers going in too many directions this summer for me to leave ’em! 🙂
School is out tomorrow, and they go back the 1st week of August. I absolutely love their summers off…we all enjoy the slower pace for a few weeks!
I’m a teacher here in Oregon, so I hear you on the loveliness of summer break! My school year typically doesn’t end until mid or late June, though. (I’m done early this year, though, due to medical leave.) I hope you get lots of quality time with your kiddos!
Wowzers! Safe travels to him! What a great experience. ✈️
Oh, I’m sure that that will be the experience of a lifetime!
Enjoy your last day of school, J; I bet you smell great, and I’m going to go look that one up right now. 🙂
I am deeply jealous over your husband’s trip! Tanzania is very high on my bucket list!
How exciting! I would love to ship my husband off to Africa for 5 weeks, especially if he comes back with perfume. 🙂
I’m so tired, and I still have to go to work. Whine, whine..
Today I’m wearing Eldo Eau de Protection and matching it to The Stones Gimme Shelter. We’ve made it to 58 degrees today, but I’m still cold and wearing a turtle neck.
ah..the stones! nice pair
???
?
Clever pairing, go Lillyjo.
Thanks!
I had Let It Bleed on the player yesterday 🙂
Awesome! I had that on all last week.
I started to wear a sweater today but refused simply on the basis that it’s May and I shouldn’t have to wear sweaters in May.
It’s up to 66 now, so I’m officially overdressed.
I hope your work shift flies by! You smell great and nice pairing!
Thanks! Still here, but day off tomorrow!
I’m happy to hear that the weather warmed up nicely for you today and that you have tomorrow off! ?
Just reviewed Le Labo Jasmin 17. I do love jasmine dominant perfume but they must be really dark and slutty. Jasmin 17 wasn’t it, it was a lemon Pledge with a candied jasmine and I really didn’t like it. I have tried others but for the price point, I don’t think Le Labo isn’t that great and they seem a little pretentious. They seem to sell stripped down versions of other perfumes. I am wearing Lonestar Memories today.
What are your favorite Jasmine dominate perfumes?
My ultimate favorite is Sarrasins. I was lucky to score a bottle on Ebay, mostly full for a decent price. Nuda is a very distant second.
I was lucky enough to sniff an old bottle of Sarrasins, and it was lovely. Don’t like the newer formulation as well, though. There’s something metalic to the jasmine that I don’t like.
When Andre was still over at the Perfume House, here in Portland, I went on a jasmine hunt, and had an amazing time sniffing everything he could find that was jasmine dominant, including some really obscure extraits he had tucked away from the collection they hide in back. . . ended up loving and buying the totally not obscure SL A la Nuit. It is a pretty pure, lovely jasmine!
Runner up was Jasmine Full, from Montale, which I’ve eventually purchased in a smaller bottle as well. It starts really big, and it can be too much, but it’s a lovely, “slutty” jasmine, as Dawn aptly describes they can be!
Have you tried Bruno Acampora’s Jasmin perfume oil? It is full on slut fuel. ;- 0
My mother brought me back a huge bottle (20 mls of this powerful stuff!!!) from Italy a couple of years ago, and I am having trouble getting through it. I would love to share some with you if you are interested. Better it get used than go off sitting on my shelf!
https://www.luckyscent.com/product/37502/jasmin-by-bruno-acampora
If you are interested, please ping me at ann dotti eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
No need to swap or anything. Just want to pass some on to someone who likes their jasmine dirty!
Wow. That sounds amazing! I will send you a note. Thank you!
I agree with Oakland Fresca on this one. I tried it a couple of years ago, and it is wonderfully filthy!
Another great jasmine, although maybe not quite as dirty as you would like, is Madagascan jasmine from Grandiflora.
Yes, the BA is the closest to the strongest jasmine I ever tried, the Norma Kamali.
I had the same impression of the Le Labo. Lately, to get my jasmine fix, I’ve been wearing Tawaf by La Via Del Profumo. The opoponax seems to sweeten up and tone down the grassiness that I sometimes detect in Jasmine!
Loved this thread about strong jasmine perfumes! I’m not sure I have sniffed a jasmine that is too much. However, I will be the first to admit that my skank-meter is probably broken.
SOTM is Kerosene Tulips and Roses (Roses and Tulips?), from the sample pile. So far, it is a vegetal, light rose scent. Seems like it might be nice in hot weather, as I sprayed pretty heavily, and it is still pretty sheer.
Yesterday’s Pretty Machine started off nice, although not exciting, and became a persistent watery floral that didn’t further evolve the next several hours. It will go into the “bath bowl” from which I dump unloved samples to scent my bathwater from time to time.
Sorry I didn’t see your comment yesterday re. Simple Twist of Fate. But it was just “Fate”. I hope you are healing well. I imagine it must be quite a roller coaster emotionally so wishing you all the best.
That’s sweet of you, thank you!
Jul et Mad Paris “Garuda”. From a mini, thank goodness, and not a FB because it’s very underwhelming. Suggested by Fragrantica as something for those who like Arquiste “Nanban”, but it is no such thing.
Supposed notes are
Top: bergamot, orange, cumin and pink pepper;
Mid: oud, saffron and rum;
Base: patchouli, vetiver, woody notes, cedar, cashmeran, amber, vanilla and musk.
It just smells sweeeeeeeeeet, and very vaguely resin-y, for 15 minutes before it fades. I got it along with its siblings “Nin Shar” and “Nea”, which are even worse, being effectively petrol station boiled sweets in perfume form. (True fact: back in the 1970s “when I were a lad”, shops & petrol stations in Italy and Yugoslavia would give boiled sweets instead of change for low denomination coins).
I was reading an old NST daily post from last week and Kanuka was kind enough to ask about my 2-days-a-week debacle. Well, I learned yesterday I didn’t get a contract I went for at the same client that would have used up the 3 days, so today I have given notice. I’ll start on a new gig in Dusseldorf in mid-June and finish up in The Hague at the end of the month. For tax reasons we would have had to move out of the Netherlands anyway, but now at least we know where to. :^)
I always enjoy your acerbic reviews 🙂 It seems so rare that you like something, though you have such a vast collection that that CAN’T be true!
Hah, yes, I have some great stuff. As we are in exile I brought samples and minis, including a lot of stuff I’m not crazy about and want to finish off. (For reasons I don’t quite understand, I can’t bring myself to just hurl them into one of the handily placed canals)
Ahhhh. Ok, now I see. I understand your reluctance! I think you just need to find a perfume novice and dump all your unloved samples/minis onto them. It’s easier to use NST to do that here in the US, but I’m sure you’ve met a few people in Europe who don’t have well-formed perfume opinions yet who could do with your castoffs 🙂
Gosh, it sounds like you’ve been given a bit of a run around. But back to Dusseldorf, eh? Good luck.
My SOTD is Tauer Noontide Petals. My sample spray will probably last me for another couple of years – I actually really enjoy this one but I forget about my samples.
You smell lovely. I need to wear that again soon.
Andy Tauer’s samples are some of the best, IMO.
Agreed!
SOTD is a small spritz of SL De Profundis, because at this moment, it is the kind of spring day that is so lovely it hurts.
My matching song pick is actually a title to another perfume, but for me, it fits this frag better: Calling All Angels by Jane Siberry (the version she sings with k.d. land).
Oh, super pairing! I love it! And those two great voices! Wow! I’ve never tried CAA, but now I think I need to…?
It’s beautiful if you like incense!
That song is beautiful, k.d. lang makes every song better.
Absolutely!
Beautiful pairing!
Thanks!
Oh, gosh! I haven’t thought about Jane Siberry in a long time, but that is a beautiful song.
I love those kind of days?
Prada Infusion d’Oeillet today. No reason, just felt like some carnation.
That’s the Infusion I keep restocking. Makes me happy!
The whole Infusions collection is excellent (there are just a few I haven’t tried), but Oeillet and Vetiver are my particular favorites.
I need to try both of these!
Carnation is already such a fickle and fleeting note–what’s the lasting power of that one? I wear Infusion d’Iris when I want the *feel* of being scented without the distraction of much of a scent, if that makes any sense!
I think Oeillet is similar to Infusion d’Iris in terms of lasting power. If I’m wearing it to work, I usually reapply in the afternoon.
Seems pretty impressive, actually, for carnation! The ones I’ve tried only seem to give me perhaps 30 min. or an hour, if I’m lucky. . . will have to seek it out. Thanks!
Now that’s an idea! Maybe carnation will work in the crazy weather that’s in the forecast for my area.
Had a crazy sort of day, and in need of calm. So once home I sprayed Parfum Sacre vintage EDP and I imagine the lady described in ‘She’s got an egyptian ring’ wearing this, don’t remember the exact title, Robin, you’re my expert for Dylan.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy7UNuw81Ig
Hope you like harmonicas! She belongs to me.
Yes, that’s the one, thank you Kanuka!
But I am slow, sorry, so luckily Kanuka answered!
🙂
Sorry to hear about your crazy day, and I hope that tomorrow is a better one for you.
I’ve paired Avignon and CSN Cathedral this morning. Looking forward to the long holiday weekend!
Smelling amazing!
Had a cloudy, cool morning like some others so I went with Lush Cardamom Coffee. I got it from Deva in the last freebie meet, and I really enjoy it. It wears close to the skin, so it’s a great office scent.
I’m hoping to have some inspiration hit before Friday to pair a perfume with a song. I have a harder time pairing perfume with music than I do a color or a work of art.
Happy it found a loving home! ??
Hmm late to the party.
Had an extremely busy day. Again.
I hope to catch up with you guys soon.
SotD is Fille en aiguilles
You smell great Jiji!
Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune
( zoologist sample)
Nice!
Vent Vert again, this time with a spritz of Aromatics Elixir, which helps ground it a bit.
The original did not need any grounding, but I guess the new one does?
’80’s Samsara for me today, no reason. So happy to have picked this up from ebay and not sure why I wasn’t a fan when it first came out.
Lovely! I have a newer bottle now, but back in the day this was one if my faves.
Hello NST. I’m writing from the beautiful Amalfi Coast and back at the hotel after a 5 hour hike over half-paved half-trail hilly terrain (step count ~ 22,000 with 38 “floors” (and a floor could be anywhere from 10 stairsteps to a good 30+) going from Ravello to Amalfi and a fabulous dinner in town.
The trip started with a self-guided marathon sight-seeing day in Rome on Sunday. On Monday, we took a train into Naples where the tour company driver picked us up and drove us via twisting mountainous road with lots of hairpin curves up to the Hotel Miramalfi. The Hotel sits quite close to the top of the mountain and has fabulous views looking down on the Amalfi Coast. The toiletries and all the room diffusers were from the Carthusia line of scented products!
I am not a hiker and the one today was OMG strenuous and difficult on many body parts. Tomorrow morning, we get picked up then dropped off at the start of a hike to Path of the Gods but I may consider skipping it because the last thing I need is to do something where I could possibly hurt myself.
This part will make me sound like a b-tch but it is what it is. I told my sister on Day 2 that I will never travel with this particular co-worker ever again. The reasons are too lengthy to share but suffice it to say, we have very different priorities and her attempts to impose her priorities on me too many times raised my hackles. Despite this, I am enjoying myself tremendously as I’ve moved on from being annoyed to speaking my mind and not leaving any gray areas.
More adventures await!
I spent a couple of days on the Amalfi coast in the early nineties. I didn’t do any serious hiking, more is the pity as that trail looks so gorgeous. Will you. make it to Positano? It is very pretty.
Yes! The descent from Path of the Gods lands one in Positano. Having looked over the notes, I think I can manage the ascent to the top which supposedly has the most beautiful views and then I will take the bus from Nocelle to Positano. The segment of the hike I am planning to take is ~ 6km and will take ~ 2.5 hours. Wish me luck!
Your trip sounds fantastic (other than the co-worker problem). I would love all that hiking, but I would have to really work on getting my legs in shape for it so as not to strain my knees.
Thank goodness she’s my sister’s co-worker and not mine! I was concerned about my knees too and have taken to descending sideways. I have a walking stick and that helped a lot!
Enjoy! I love reading about your adventures!
Thank you, kellyc! I will post on IG when I can. So far, as the you saw, I shared the Swatch watch I ended up buying in Rome. The color combo is my favorite and happens to be so appropriate for this particular vacation.
Ack! Sounds lovely (except the hackle raising co-worker!). I probably missed it in a previous post, but what perfumes did you bring? Any new purchases yet?
Thank goodness she’s my sister’s co-worker and of mine. I brought No.19 EDP, No.5 EDT, Cedrat Enivrant and Bergamot Soliel. I had been commando so far but may start wearing something tomorrow! I think it will have to be No.19 to power me through the hike!
No perfume purchases yet!
I pity anyone who tried to impose their priorities on you!?
So glad you are enjoying yourself. Stay safe with all that walking!
I agree lillyjo, hajusuuri is no pushover! 🙂
Sounds wonderful! And Carthusia toiletries sound lovely.
Thanks for the trip update! It sounds great, except for the annoying co-worker of your sister’s. Do you have any rewards or perks for making goals re: step counts?
Traveling with someone is a real test. You can be great friends but that doesn’t mean you’ll be great travel partners. Ask me how I know… 😉
Eau Egyptienne, over Laura Mercier amber and vanilla body creme. Yum.
Yum! You are like a middle eastern dessert ?
Ha! Thank you!
Today I wore Pomelo Riviera, from the new Atelier des Ors Riviera Collection.
Today it’s Infanta en Flor by Arquiste, paired with Bob’s Boots of Spanish Leather. Marry me, Bob.
Nice! Is he still eligible?
So far as anyone knows.
I must admit that I’ve never paid enough attention to Bob Dylan to know whether I like his music or not. I’m tending towards not, as I’d surely have noticed anything that did appeal.
I have a hospital appointment this morning for an echocardiogram, following up on my cardiac event a year ago. I’m expecting it to show that all is well, and I’ve got an appointment in a few weeks to get the results. Meanwhile, I’m planning to grace today’s experience with a little Bois des Iles.
Fingers crossed, hope everything turns out well!
I’m with you on Bob Dylan. I am just not really familiar with his work.
Hope your cardiology exams and appointment go well!
Fingers crossed for a good report!
Good luck on the echo! The only Bob Dylan song I can recall off-hand is “Like a Rolling Stone,” though when I look up names of songs, I realize I know several and generally like them.
Best of luck on the test! I’m pretty oblivious to Bob Dylan’s work as well.
Good luck!
Hoping that you had good news from your appointment and exam! ?
I decided to spray on Kilian Rose Oud again today because I enjoyed it so much yesterday. I had to spray lightly yesterday due to going to PT in the afternoon, and today I felt more free to spray with abandon and so now I really smell pretty! The rose in this perfume is just particularly gorgeous. I want to compare it to the MFK Oud Silk Mood but at the moment I can’t find my MFK sample set. And yes, the first project on my agenda for free time this summer is to clean out my closet in a VERY serious way–I mean, disposing of maybe 1/2 or more of the clothes and shoes in there taking up space unnecessarily. Anyway, I managed to haul myself to one of the nicest nearby thrift stores but all I found to buy was an extremely nice picture frame for the grand total of $5. It’s already very hot and humid here in Houston and I still get super fatigued very easily. Off to a nap with some kitties soon.
Kilian Rose Oud is one of my top two favourite rose ouds, along with Jo Malone’s rose oud. Sweet and jammy with very little oud. 🙂
How’s your PT coming along?
I got nothin’ when it comes to Bob Dylan. Just someone I really didn’t listen to. I know, I know. I’m a rube.
So, I sprayed on Sous le Toit de Paris. Violets. I don’t care what else they say is in this…that’s what I get. Violets. This is a case of my husband insisting I get something when I’m uncertain. I’ve learned to trust him. (Another one he urged on me was Oeillet Bengale, which is an absolute favorite.)
I love both of those scents!
Violets is all I remember! Great scent.
Wearing Safran Troublant thanks to Koyel. Where has this been all my life?! I’ve already determined this is a love for me. It took all of an hour at most for me to decide haha. Soooo beautiful, I can tell why it gets so much love.
Friends, it’s only 59 degrees here right now. We had actual snow flurries this morning. Ugh. it’s May and I am NOT a fan lol.
It’s almost June so let’s hope for better temperatures
Yay! I’m so glad you love it! 🙂
With you on the ridiculous weather. Friends from Los Alamos have sent me photos of everything covered in snow, ugh!
My brother emailed me a picture of his neighborhood covered in snow. There was at least one expletive along with said pic.
SOTD is TF Shanghai Lily on one hand and Aerin Evening Rose on the other. They play pretty well together. Hoping we are done with rain and storms.
I like having different flowers on different arms!
Song of the day: “Change” by Mavis Staples. I’d heard on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” that she and Bob Dylan have had quite the history together. So that’s my tenuous connection to the CP today.

SOTD = Silences EdP, from the sample stash. I am getting close to thunking this. I’ve enjoyed it very much. ?
awesome! I love Change, Mavis, Bob, and Wait, Wait too! 🙂
The bass line in that song “Change” is just so freaking good! ?
I will have to see if I can get that episode!
I hear them occasionally when my son has them on his phone…we just heard the Conan O’Brien episode (I think it was from January) and it was hysterical.
“Wait, Wait…” had some episodes recently that were recaps of past interviews, and Mavis Staples was featured in one of those. She was a delight to listen to! Probably easier to find than the original interview she did circa 2008?
Thanks!
Undina mentioned Bee’s Bliss yesterday so that is my SOTD. It has amazing longevity. It lasts all day with just a few spritzes.
That sounds perfect for this time of year.
SotD = Assam of India, of course!
Tea for Tuesdays, super late as usual. Thinking about perfume makes me happy, even at the end of a long day. Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday. Waft on, NSTers!
Aha, and I forgot to report my tea this morning, again!
Inquiring minds want to know. There’s always tomorrow to report. 😀
Currently my “tea” is fresh mint leaves from my garden steeped in hot water for about five minutes.
Thinking of perfume always makes me happy too!
Wearing a couple drops of Iris 39 oil tonight.
