Wednesday scent of the day 3/27

Posted by Robin on 27 March 2019 192 Comments

Hump Day, Manatee Appreciation Day, and the swapmeet is still going! What fragrance are you wearing?

Yesterday I said I was going to test Hermès Un Jardin sur la Lagune, but yesterday did not go as planned. I'm wearing it now.

Reminder: on 3/29, wear an orange blossom or neroli fragrance, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I love that Magnolia, can’t wait for my tree to bloom.
I am wearing one of my favorite combo, FM Musc ravageur oil layered with FM Lipstick Rose, total opposites , they complement each other so well !!!

That sounds like a really interesting match, I love both of those.
We can see a beautiful pink magnolia at the bottom of our garden, above our neighbours fence, so beautiful and uplifting!

That does sound like an interesting combo. I imagine that oil is divine-love Musc Ravageur.

There is a lovely magnolia in my neighbor’s front yard that has spread into mine, and it’s all budded out, waiting to bloom. I am so excited!

California must be ahead of the curve–our magnolias have been blooming since December! Most of the trees near us are done blooming by now. But they sure looked gorgeous.

I’m off topic in Amouage Journey woman, one of my favourites for spring. I’m saving my only orange blossom centric perfume, Seville a l’aube for Friday.
It’s my day off today, and I am feeling incredibly lethargic, after some beautiful sunny spring days, it’s cold, grey and overcast.
At least Journey is lovely, bright and comforting.

Take it easy on your day off, Mayfly. You’re smelling great in Journey, I love this one, not a typical Amouage but lovely all the same.

Meh! Haha! That’s kind of what I’m expecting too Robin but I’m still interested to try it! I don’t get excited with new releases anymore since JCE departed. The only CN scent I enjoy and wear is Rhubarbe Ecarlate, and I think Galop is gorgeous but the rest for me are yes, definitely meh. As an aside, I wonder if the new bottle colour was influenced by the 2019 Pantone colour of the year… Living Coral? It certainly does look nice with the rest of the Jardin palette of colours!

It is a pretty color, but the juice does not call up that color at all!

Very pretty floral note early on but it is fleeting.

That magnolia is almost the same color as the flowers on my Christmas cactus…which has started blooming unexpectedly a full 3 months past Christmas. A pleasant surprise!

I’ve always struggled with sandalwood until Santal Carmin. I’m down to about 3ml, and decided this morning I will have to get a bottle. I don’t want to be without it. My Sephora quit carrying it, so no more free samples!?

Santal Carmin is one of the few Ateliers I haven’t tried, strange because I love sandalwood. My Sephora must not carry it either, but I haven’t actually been to a brick and mortar one in quite a while.

We’re house twins and running low on our favorites twins. I might end up getting a bottle of mine too (Vetiver Fatal)

Back in the day I had one of those tshirts with a photorealistic image of a manatee peering out. I love manatees, but the picture seemed to creep people out, so I stopped wearing it. I wear it if I could find it. I don’t remember getting rid of it on purpose.

I think they had a manatee one that was nice

The idea is that it keeps you dry in humid weather, so anywhere you tend to get sweaty. I used a lot of powder when I lived in Georgia; Minnesota not so much.

Sampling Honore de Pres Nu Green today – the second Giacobetti in a row that hasn’t wowed me. Maybe I’ve overdone it – or likelier I just smelled all her justifiably famous things first! Anyway this mostly smells like a lemon Italian ice to me.

Hiram Green paranoia rumormongering announcement – I went to price the Dilettante mini yesterday and found it gone from both Luckyscent and the HG website. I do hope they’re not phasing out the minis, but if anyone has been putting off buying one, you might want to grab one just to be safe! Twisted Lily still seemed to have most.

Sorry! I realised it after I had posted my comment. Reading comments on my laptop with a smaller screen leads to these things, or so I tell myself.
Glad to hear that you enjoy Cap Neroli as well. I find it incredibly lovely.

You’re right about too much hype at this point. Cap Neroli was nice but didn’t wow me. It actually reminded me of Tocca’s Stella. I still have my sample though and will try it again this spring to see if it makes more of an impression.

I will say Cap Neroli is a particularly good neroli, but then there’s lots of good nerolis around. If that isn’t your thing, then Koyel is probably right that it won’t live up to the hype.

I think you’re just being realistic, not a downer. I remember trying Alahine for the first time and being disappointed that it wasn’t the second coming of perfume. It’s a nice perfume, but I was expecting something revolutionary based on others’ excitement about it.

In other news, I gave out wrong information regarding the Chanel Body Oil ?. It is NOT, I repeat NOT, Chanel No.5 L’Eau! It is simply Chanel No.5 Body Oil and L’huille just means oil. Anyway, I have not opened it yet but I will and intend on keeping it because Chanel No.5!

Heh. They are extremely abnormal. I think the entire time I was in grad school, I saw ONE thunderstorm. This is the second or third in 2019 already though O.O Anyway everyone freaks the frack out every time.

I grew up on the east coast, where there were a dozen thunderstorms every summer and we lost power for a few hours at LEAST twice per summer because of them, so they feel comforting to me 🙂 as long as I am warm and dry indoors!

In Sydney Rock Pool from a Scentbird decant–which I am liking much more than I expected. It is evocative of the sea (west coast beaches, NOT east coast beaches which always smell more pungent and ocean-y to me). There is coconut in this one, but it doesn’t trip the suntan oil wire–more like a musky coconut if that makes any sense. I am testing on a cold damp day with rain pouring down outside, so rock pools at the beach are a welcome diversion!

Comme ci comme ça! The decants are large, which is great if you like the perfume and plan to wear it. But if you wind up not loving it, you have an 8 ml decant rattling around. If you are like me, it is hard to toss perfume so I have several of their decants at various levels hanging about. Also, I wish they had a wider variety of scents. For instance, they recently added several Kate Spade perfumes to their list–which I am completely incurious about and also feel is a little depressing. I do have a few Amouage decants from Scentbird, which I quite like, and am happy with 8 mls—and probably won’t need more of.

          Hi Oakland Fresca!
Have you ever had problems with delays or missed shipment with Scentbird? I read some negative posts on MUA and decided against signing up, although I would love to get several decants from them.

There was a two month period a little while ago where the shipping got a little bungled, but since you only pay for what you actually get and you can always order extra decants on a one time or regular basis–I wouldn’t let that stop you if see items you are wanting try. I think $15 for 8 mls is a good deal, and if it comes a week late–its not the end of the world. I think two decants, at 8 mls each, is $25 a month, but you can also always order another decant any time you want without signing up for it to be a regular thing.

I put on just 2 little spritzes of Histoire d’Orangers early in the day and it’s still there. Sometimes the light ones just do not fade on me and I’m glad this one doesn’t.

The daffodils are so close to blooming, I decided I needed to wear Ostara today. I have a decant from a split or swap, don’t remember exactly, and I like it. A lot. If a cheap bottle landed in my lap I wouldn’t be mad.

Such a busy day. Spent it in my new Tauer “Lonestar Memories”, which will need more sprays in future than I gave it this morning!

A bunch of decants arrived today, so I will have something new for tomorrow as well as something with Neroli for Friday.

My little FM set arrived today and I couldn’t wait to try Musc Ravageur so that is my SOTE. Really nice. It took me a long time to get to the Malles but I’ve at least liked everything I’ve tried so far.

Yesterday several people mentioned Insolence so I put that on tonight.

Last night I put on SL Fleurs d’Oranger; it must have lingered all night through this morning as I think I could still smell it slightly at work when I was moving back and forth from my desk.

Impressive longevity.. I must have tested the original cumin bomb. It was OB + BO on me.. I couldn’t scrub it off fast enough… and that was how I learned about cumin in perfumes as a new perfunista a few years ago. ? SL sure loves cumin…
