Tuesday scent of the day 3/26

Posted by Robin on 26 March 2019 240 Comments

Tuesday, Purple Day, Guccio Gucci's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am commando at the moment, and planning to test a few fragrances later, including Hermès Un Jardin sur la Lagune. My tea is from a sample too: Upton Yunnan FOP Select.

Reminder: on 3/29, wear an orange blossom or neroli fragrance, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Gucci Herbarium teapot ("The teapot is crafted from white Richard Ginori porcelain featuring Gucci's Herbarium motif—a whimsical Toile de Jouy design of cherry branches, leaves and flowers, inspired by a vintage fabric.") is $590.

Insolence by Guerlain..hot raspberry and orange blossom. Sillage galore..I love it.
Listening to Tiziano Ferro, an Italian singer
Spring is not here in NYC..sporting a blue cashmere sweater.
Chubby Buddha is making me an omelet out of play dough.
I posted some things for swap, a little late to the fiesta.

      Scent twins !

I have had this bottle of Insolence for about eleven years, because a little bit goes a long way. I remember smelling this in Dillards department store all those years ago, and immediately loving it.

I always receive lots of compliments when I wear this one..what about you?

My bottle is either from the swap or the freebiemeet so I am not sure how old it is.

      You smell great!
Is that a Mariage Freres tea?
      How do you like it?
I’m on a quest for a good rose flavored tea (I already have 2 MF options suggested by austenfan and I am eagerly waiting to sample them on my next trip to Paris ?)

This is my favorite, however, to warn you, this runs a bit more expensive than other MF teas. I would try just a 100g bag and see how you like it the next time you are in Paris. You won’t be disappointed but your credit card may be…

I got a bottle of Insolence EdP a couple of years ago. I get that first blast of violet quite strongly when I try it. Now that you mention it, raspberry, too. I’ll have to try again sometime to see if I can pick out orange blossom.

    Hello everyone!

Apres la Mousson today, a shimmering oasis. I never see this one on department stores anymore but it is truly my favorite jardin. Surprisingly long lasting too.

Robin, I hope you enjoy the new one, ideally much more than this one!

I’m working my way through my fragrancenet box and today I am enjoying the heck out of some CdG2, which I bought in mini, the perfect amount.

Also in the box was Aramis Devin, which is sort of frustrating. It’s a galbanum-herbal barbershop leather, which I feel like I would love except it’s awfully light and fleeting. It is time to set up a vintage alert… has anyone smelled the vintage?

Purse Sample that Fits the Community Project–Do It For Love which is the Kilian scent for Bergdorf’s. Left the house without perfume this morning but there’s always something in my purse. Reminds me of Love Don’t Be Shy even though it doesn’t have iris in it

From a distance it seems fresher because of the vetiver but close up it seems creamier and a little sweet which is what reminds me of Love Don’t Be Shy. Apparently contains both neroli and orange blossom. I like it but probably not $300+ worth of like for a full bottle

Another beautiful sunny day but boy, they start out cold, 22F this morning. Wearing Chanel Eau Premiere, another of the many perfumes that I’ve forgotten that smell wonderful.

Received an email this morning about an enormous estate sale starting tomorrow that shows several pictures of vintage perfumes. They were in the background but I made out at least three deluxe giftsets of Evening in Paris 🙂 nice change from the ubiquitous Avon in my area. This lady was something of a hoarder who had purchased tons of items from old department stores – tons of vintage clothes and new/old stock. I’m going with a young friend who wears nothing but vintage, should be fun! Hopefully I can come back Thursday and gloat over my great finds lol.

Testing Guerlain AA Flora Nerolia – a big bouquet of orange blossom, jasmine and neroli. I am mostly enjoying it, but something in it smells a bit off. Maybe it’s just a bit too idnolic for me.

I loved this one as soon as it came out in the early 2000s. But yes, in spite of the name it is a lot about jasmine as well as orange blossom, and jasmine can be a bit funky, or maybe the juice has somewhat aged.

      • Glannys says:
        26 March 2019 at 5:04 pm

I think it’s both the natural ‘funk’ of jasmine and aging. After all, AA scents are all about freshness and lightness, and sadly such perfumes often do not age well.
Flora Nerolia is still quite good at the right stage. 🙂

I worked a really long day yesterday, so I’m hoping to get out a little earlier today. However, I have to stay as long as other employees need me, so it’s not really in my control.

I’m in BoE and trying to keep cool on my first day after a security “person” told me “no animals on site” because it’s “policy.”

I asked if she was denying me entrance and “I’m not saying that.” I asked what she WAS saying..? She said it was “policy.” Are you kidding me? I refused to park offsite due to risk of break in and asked for her manager’s contact info.

Called him and was told it’s fine. What is wrong with people? Grrr!

    California Reverie. Smells like spring.?
Later this afternoon madtownteen and I head to Florida for a week in the sun and fun. I’m a bit nervous about flying. I’m not a huge fan of the take off and we have a layover with transfer this time which I’ve never done before.? I have a lavender essential oil patch ready to go. My kid is a trooper, so I’m sure it’ll all be fine. I will breath a huge sigh of relief when we get there and I see my mom and dads smiling faces.

Another person who dislikes flying, not much because of the actual physics of the process, but more because people can become belligerent (read: a$$hats!) when they fly and drink. Personally, I think everyone should be darted with a tranquilizer gun as soon as they step on board. What a joy flying would be then..! ??✈️

Have a great time! Hoping the a$$hats give that flight wide berth??

I’m in Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli today. It has a special place in my heart as the one that turned me on to neroli. Drinking another cup of Stash Peach tea and the scents are mingling in a way I really like. Might be a fun experiment to try layering something like Demeter Peach with some neroli perfumes…

Sampling Sixteen92’s The Raven. There’s a silvery-metallic note that they use in a lot of their perfumes which is usually in the background, but is really center stage and screechy to me in this one. Not scrubber-bad, but will find its home in the reject pile for sure.

Greetings, fragrant ones! In the middle of Bonsai pruning and repotting season and let me tell you, lifting a 4 foot ceramic tray full of rocks, trees and moss is no joke! I will put many squirts of John Varvatos Artisan on today to encourage my flagging body!

I don’t own a bottle and it is now discontinued so well done for having a BUB and thanks for the memories.

    Hi NST
Who posted about Paco Rabanne La Nuit “smelling like Tabu sprayed on a horse”? I remember the post, not the person. Either way, in that way that knowing about something makes you notice it, I noticed one lonely box of the above perfume at the local drugstore. This place usually carries Marc Jacobs and Estee Lauder Pleasures, not kidding.
So, came home, read the Basenotes reviews (all positive) and Perfume Shrine’s post on it, went back and blind bought it. It was dirt, dirt cheap. Sprayed last night and initially it smells a little like Cabochard, lots of personality. Then it quietens down and smells to me of 80’s women with big hair, glossed lips and blue eyeshadow, very sexy and wearing EXPENSIVE perfume. Thank you to whoever mentioned this.

The local antique shop around the corner has a small dabber of a perfume called Diva-when I smelled it, it reminded me of the 80’s. I didn’t buy it, I don’t need anymore perfume (I keep telling myself )

You made me laugh! But honestly, I snuck a peek at your wedding photos (beautiful) when you posted the link, and you are very glamorous. I think you may love Ralph Lauren Safari and this! Maybe my tolerance for animalic is high, but this doesn’t smell skanky to me. Bandit had me running for the hills, but this is just “80’s”. Not little girly at all. These days the only options are Taylor Swift or Kim Kardashian. Nothing in between. In the 80’s you could aspire to be Joan Collins or Joanna Lumley.

I so agree on “glamour” and “style” these days. I have to brag on my son’s girlfriend. She is 18 and has an amazing sense of style for her age. She shops at thrift shops and estate sales and such and always look so put together unlike most girls that are her peers. He’s had a lot of gfs over the years but his current girlfriend (who he’s been with for 3 years now) really stands apart from the rest who, as you say, are either Taylors or Kims lol.

I love 80’s perfume, so I should def try this. I’ve never sniffed Safari either so I should try it too!

That’s what I love about perfumes back in the 70s and 80s when I was a teenager and in my twenties. They were ‘adult’ and something for me to aspire to. There weren’t very many scents created and marketed specifically for young people the way they are today. I wanted nothing to do with them back then. I wanted the ‘real stuff’!! Plus, those of us who came of age in that era of scents might have been lucky enough to have a mother, father or an older sibling who introduced us to some real gems and initiated our interest in scents.

My daughter had an early morning evaluation appointment today. Afterwards, we had lunch and went to the mall. I got to sample Alien Fusion. So glad I didn’t blind buy it. It starts out with a blast of cinnamon and seemed promising. Now, after 2 hours, I’m left with a vaque cinnamon candy smell mixed with ambroxan, maybe a little play-do. I do not recognize Alien at all in the drydown. I also tested Narciso Musc, it was pretty awesome at first, but very similar to the tall pink bottle, imo. Seriously, I doubt I would wear Fusion even if it were free. It does seem to be getting good reviews, so it’s probably just me.

No. 5 L’Eau today inspired by hajusuuri mentioning the body oil yesterday. I sprayed about 5 sprays but wish I would have gone with about 8 haha. It’s so pretty and perfect for a spring day.

In l’AP Histoire d’Orangers again! Last night the boyfriend said I smelled “nice,” which is high praise from him. Since he rarely likes perfumes that I like (he’s fond of straightforward, well-behaved, quiet florals), it’s clinched my thought that I need to find myself a bottle of this once my decant runs dry (which will be soon).

IA Sundrunk! It’s gone now, but it really hit the spot while it lasted, which was longer than expected. I like that it’s burst of sour lasts into the middle of its development. Pennsylvania is refusing to let spring happen, so we have to pretend. This week’s theme helps.

Bright, sunny and chilly today. Yesterday’s rain is long gone. The cats are hanging out in either sunbeams or on top of the heat vents.

SOTD = back in Silences again today. It fits the weather, plus I woke up with a headache. I figured that Silences would not bother a touchy noggin. It did not, and now the headache is gone.

Me too! I am wondering if it might have been caused by the change in weather. I will have to pay attention in the future to see if changes in atmospheric pressure bother me or not. Then again, it could have been old fashioned stress. Bleah.

Touchy noggin! Yes. That is what I’ve been waking up with every morning. I keep mumbling that my noodle’s in a twist, but I think I much prefer touchy noggin.

Sadly, mine are almost always a precursor to a full on migraine.

Glad your head has recovered! I just took a walk with my hubs and the pooch. It feels like snow… it is freezing. My 20 below winter coat felt like a windbreaker. Seems like the warmer weather only comes when it’s raining this spring.

SOTD was Annick Goutal “Encens Flamboyant”

My order from Ausliebezumduft (First in Fragrance) arrived, so tomorrow I’ll likely wear my new FB of Tauer “Lonestar Memories”. Yay!

I have nothing with Neroli with me, but a order of decants should arrive tomorrow so I can do something on Friday. It is fun to see the pleasure some of you guys are getting from the CP. I have a personal horror of scents where neroli (or petitgrain) are up front. :^D

Late again today, but dropping in to say that I’m wearing Le Mat, which is an utterly intriguing rose and immortelle combo. The immortelle grabs this and swings it quite outside of the usual rose territory, and the rose dampens the weird food vibe that sometimes happens with immortelle. I like to smell good, but even more, I like to smell unusual AND good at the same time.

Hello, oki… has this ever happened to any of You guys before?… When You smell a new fragrance and You get this CRAZY feeling it reminds You of three different, completely different from each other perfumes? I have blindly bought this perfume (I believe in reading reviews, stories behind, and list of notes of perfumes before I buy… which do not have to always be accurate to my own liking of a fragrance I buy but still I get to get a “feel” of what is up my alleyand some help deciding). I have always loved the warmth of pumpkins… pumkin piea, scandinavian pumpin soups, pumpkin this, pumpkin that… etc. My first perfume I ever loved asa child was Alchimie by Rochas… The bottle is shaped like a pumpkin and the scent always reminded me of one. Official list of notes do not list any pumpkin (to no surprise) but I swear it does remind of a soft, orange, creamy pumpkin in a way!!

Ok point I was trying to make (thanks for anyone’s time reading this!!) I read some more online about different brands and scents etc. On luckyscent I came across a description of Etat Libre Orange’s Like This. Wow… I felt I HAVE to try this. What rare ingredient in perfumery… my pumpkin>? Real pumpkin flesh note?? Fiery orange??!! Ginger!!!!!????? Gingerbread home/house or something like this… OMG. I had to HAVE this beforeI smelled it. I bought me blindly a 7.5ml on Ebay for a super reasonable price… I literally greeted the mail lady on my doorstep when I knew the package was coming and when. My hands were shaking… a real “orange” type of a scent… punkin… ginger… warmth… rare… exotic… home-like… and … to my surprise I read the label before I opened it… I never read labels because I KNOW what it is already. When I saw… You or Someone like YouI almost fell of the chair…. what?! WHAT????!!!!!! I calmed down and debated for a couple of minutes… open it? Don”t open it? Ok to be honest I didn’t want to run to my coputer or phone to read about it… simple thing was. I READ all there was about Etat before buying Like This. And Like This seemed to be thevery first one I WANTED to try or have from them. … I took a deep breath and slowely opened the wrapper… after all 18 bucks including lighting fast shipping is not bad. And it’s already here… After Like This I would want to try a lot more other ones anyway. So I opened the little box… Sprayed it (too late to return now, dear YOU !!) immediatelyI thought of CDG 2… one of my most ever lovedones… then I got an impression of a minty/chypre rose like in YSL Champagne or more likely… Yvresse… also my BIG love! Drydown? Montale Ginger Musk… another REAL big one for me (I know too simple not this and not that enough… my personal favorite Montale though… deliscious and fizzy….) Three of my favorite fragrances from three different olfactory/brands/category/everything groups that have nothing in common? Cdg 2, Ginger Musk and Dear Yvresse… You do have in common… Like Me or You!! Thanks for reading an overly looooooong post, sorry had to share!

Been hooked on Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black since I opened my fragrancenet box Friday.

Creamy, woodsy. Violets only in the top notes & fly away within minutes. Overall projection & longevity leave something to be desired… and I do desire, so I spray again. 30ml size & the shape of the bottle make it very purse-friendly.

Hardly a spring-fling, but pairs nicely with Chocolatey Chai with milk & honey.

Also got E&J White, French Grey, and Rose- Rose seems a decent dupe of SL La Fille de Berlin. French Grey is full of neroli, and White… well. I like the look of the bottle & that is all!

I like nb a lot too, I have a roll on at work, it a good “no brainer” (except for the part of the brain that smells ?)

What else did get from fragrance net? Getting to the free shipping threshold is always a puzzle!

Got Black, White, French Grey & Rose…,Really not digging White, and yet it’s the one I remember liking in 2013? And mixing them just ruins Black… ?
Had a code for 37% off another perfumista shared.
The savings compared to retail in Canada are astronomical, and I always smash the free shipping threshold. I also cross-border shop & save there as well.
