Wednesday scent of the day 3/20

Posted by Robin on 20 March 2019 224 Comments

It's Hump Day and the International Day of Happiness. Also, the spring equinox, despite the frost on my windshield this morning, and tonight, watch out for the Super Worm Moon (and while you're at it, don't forget the swapmeet is this weekend). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm ignoring the weather in L’Artisan Parfumeur Jacinthe des Bois.

Reminder: on 3/22, celebrate the arrival of spring by wearing your favorite spring fragrance. (If it's fall where you are, you know what to do.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy Equinox (whichever it is where you are), everyone! I’m in AdP Iris Nobile EDT, definitely a spring favorite for me.

    Good morning Y’all!

It’s Inventory day! Time to count every single pill in this pharmacy…..all gazillon of ’em! 🙂 Since my peeps are walking around all day bumping into each other and staying in each other’s personal space, I went with Prada Infusion d’Iris. It’s light, it’s airy, and it’s calming…perfect for counting until your eyes cross over! 🙂

It’s too cold here in Virginia for any of my favorite spring perfumes, so I’m wearing Amouage Opus iii which has a nice violet note (violets are springy, right?) while also being warm and cozy.

It’s cold here, too, but it’s clear we’ve turned the corner from winter. I’m in Smell Bent Florist’s Fridge for its soft-focus chilly florals (orchid and hyacinth, though it smells carnationy to me).

Staying with my mom for a week or so while she recovers from a kidney infection that might have killed her, if my dad had not become alarmed when she didn’t answer the phone and come home to check on her. She’s still quite weak. Dad is in the throes of tax season — he’s 80 but still choosing to work three days a week — so the timing was lamentable. BUT! Mom’s still around, and feeling better enough that now she’s worrying about things like laundry and proper storage of the recyclables.

SOTD will be Goutal Chevrefeuille for in honor of spring and it looks like a glorious day here – the kind with a clear, cool morning, birds singing and warm in the afternoon.

Jacinthe des Bois sounds wonderful (but un-track-down-able); I would love other recommendations for hyacinth clones. I sometimes catch hyacinth from the EDT version of First.

If anyone needs inspiration for Friday, this came in my poem-of-the-day email, and now I am determined to make my Friday fragrance match the line, “What is all this juice and all this joy?”
    https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/51002/spring

I’m in Diorella today and very much enjoying a week of springy fragrances. It’s still in the 40s in Minnesota, but I can’t express how much like spring it feels to watch the huge piles of snow slowly turning into wet sidewalks and streetside streams. Just water moving is a big change. What is all this juice?!

I think that Juicy Couture’s “Peace, Love and Juicy Couture” has a hyacinth note in it. I liked it enough to get a FB. It wasn’t as anywhere as sweet as its perfume siblings.

JdB is gone. It is a real hyacinth soliflore and I am sure there is another but I don’t know it…you would think the Buterbaugh mentioned above would be one, but have not tried it (and most of that line is too clean for me).

    Hello, Spring!

    1) We have had a run of warm weather and blue skies these three days- yesterday it was a high of 74F; today it will be 70F! But- the temps will drop back down into the 50s and 60s later on this week.

    2) But the plum and cherry trees are blossoming!

    3) Am in Vanori by Delacourte, which is a sweet vanilla floral. Very nice indeed indeed.

Had an eventful night…me and the Mr. decided to try a new Mexican place, half priced margaritas for Taco Tuesday, how could we say no? They were STRONG, which was fine until we got home and found a very guilty looking dog and several chocolate wrappers, about 5 oz of mostly dark for a small 20 lb dog. I’m sure I made a wonderful impression on the front desk ladies at the emergency vet, explaining that I had left a collection of artisan chocolate bars on the bedside table with tequila still on my breath. Very classy.

Fur baby spent the night there but we picked him up and brought him home early. He’s doing fine now, but he’ll be having charcoal poops and boiled chicken and rice for a few days.

Plucked a sample from the to-try pile for a pick me up today, Gaiac by M. Micallef. Wishing I’d just gone with a comfort scent instead.

He’ll be okay, he seemed content after we gave him a bath this morning. He likes getting blasted with the hair dryer. We just gotta keep an eye on him for a bit and make sure he’s acting normal.

I know Deva, it looks like there was a bit of hot spell but its going to change again.

my travel schedule makes it hard to get to the gym so I bit the bullet and got the treadmill. it was, with assembly, 40 clams less than my refund.

I worked in Portland before and found it to be a very walkable city.

So I have my paths planned out and whole foods is between my hotel and my client site so I am hoping to walk, use hotel gym and get a salad every evening.

Unlike my last project which I loved but was in an unsavory part of the town and I went straight for hotel every night.

We had four days of spectacularly beautiful weather, so naturally, everything is back to miserably drizzly and cold. Boohoo, let’s all cry for the Californian’s bad weather.

I’m wearing Berdoues Assam of India, because I meant to find something properly springy, and not summery, but AoI smells so good I just couldn’t resist it. Whoops. I really really REALLY like this scent, and I am always surprised by all of you who say it’s not a very special scent and is mostly worth it for the bottle 🙂 I love the bottle, but I love the juice, too, and it doesn’t smell like every other light summer scent to me.

Being a grown-up this afternoon and going back to the doctor’s office, because apparently the day I turned 30 (1.5 y ago), my body just decided that it needed to break down.

81F yesterday. Pretty sure the end of Times has arrived. ?

Thankfully, it cooled down last night and the forecast is for highs of 50-60’s the rest of week. In celebration, I’m wearing SL Chergui. ??‍♀️ Summer, I’m banishing you!

The doggo has decided she doesn’t really like biking along with me. She does so grudgingly and with a surly expression, giving me the side eye as she trots along. Too bad for her because it’s great exercise. I did something to my right leg a few weeks back, and it’s been flaring up off and on ever since, made worse by walking 6-10 miles at work. However, no pain when I pedal, so that’s what we’re doing for the next little while. Such a hard life!

She woke this morning, went out to potty (really, I had to boot her out because she didn’t want to leave the warm bed), came in to eat, wolfing it down like she hadn’t been fed in a month, and because of all that Hard Work, she’s napping, under the covers with her fleece on, just her nose peeking out. What a life!

I am sampling J’Adore Absolu today
(its easy to confuse this with J’adore L’absolu from 2007…..but they are different)

Its all about flowers. I smell rose, jasmine and magnolia.
(No fruit at all, like in the original J’adore)

Its not bad, If I had it Id probably wear it to formal occasions (think Tenue de ville dresscode or similar, but without alcoholic drinks haha)
its quite linear though and not very adventurous.

Oh and I still have to vote today!
Not an easy choice. But hey, at least we have plenty choice. ? (more than a dozen parties to choose from).

Hi Petunia, sorry it took so long to reply. I had to test this one a second time.
It’s hard to compare this to anything out there, because it’s both a gourmand and an oriental to my nose. It also has the feel of a spicy gourmand that has dried down and mellowed on skin for a couple of hours. That being said, it’s not especially sweet.
Since you’re a fan of Chergui, you might really like this one. Hope this helps!

In my gorgeous Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri <3 Such a lovely, unisex fragrance. Ehem Ehem but I noticed a lot of fragrances that are unisex tend to be a tad on the masculine side rather than truly unisex… Arancia though is NOT at all feminine yet not overly musculine for it being a unisex. I just is… a beautiful fragrance of fresh, mouthwatering oranges and this insanely gourgeous caramel note. Never overpowering but so irresistiable… My new favorite!! What a great blind buy I had with this one!
P.S. temperature here… 75 degrees but a little overcast since we had some rain yesterday and earlier in the morning. Welcome to Key West, Florida!!

In Mito voile today, for spring. Determined not to hoard these last couple of mls in my decant, but just spritz generously and enjoy it.

I’m not doing spring scents yet but continuing my incense trials with Passage d’Enfer. This is the more friendly, cuddly version of incense, a little sweet. I’m with Mom at the hospital and things are slow, as always in hospitals, it seems.

I am wearing Guerlain Black Perfecto, my daughter complimented me this morning about my perfume that means she wants to take this bottle to put in her own room.
No spring yet where I am .

Feeling contrary, I was in the mood for an old school chypre, so it’s vintage Halston today (honestly, if it was repackaged in a fancy bottle it could easily outdo niche chypre offerings).

I agree. So many inexpensive beauties of the distant past outshine current niche offerings.

So glad we are on the same wavelength 🙂 I would say probably 10% of the niche perfumes I have tried is outstanding and the rest is nothing to write home about, while Halston smells modern and the scent is intact so it ages very well and so grateful that it’s not sweet, since I acquired my bottle last month it has become easily one of my favorite chypres.

Maybe look for it on eBay Jalapeno, vintage Halston is affordable and it stayed with me all day (my full 50ml boxed bottle cost only £10 including shipping and the scent is pristine). I would imagine it’s plentiful in the US so deals must be great.

Stayed home today as I’m still fighting this cold and horrible cough. I just showered and put on some Bronze Goddess cooling gelee. It’s very light and unobtrusive, about all I can take today. I was wanting to put on some vintage Diorissimo or Miss Dior; maybe on the weekend.

I did drag myself to work yesterday to do 1 task, should have taken me 2 hours but I ended up being there all day for 9 hours as I was pulled in many directions. Working is not for the faint of heart!

Happy Spring everyone! My snow is almost gone!

Very intentionally chose vintage Chanel N. 19 today and regret it. I never don’t have it in my collection, but sometimes it just smells a bit fusty and metallic. It sure does on this damp day. I wish I were smelling it on someone else. The distance would work nicely, and then I could give another scent a chance. Too busy/lazy to change my sweater though.

Happy Equinox (Spring or Autumn) NST! Also, Happy Nowruz, for those of you who celebrate. ?????????

Well, this is an embarrassing admission. ? I thought I had been wearing L’Artisan Timbuktu for the past few days. Turns out I was not. I had poured my spray sample of ELdO’s Fat Electrician into a small spray vial at while back, and then did not label it with its new contents. I discovered this when I spotted the actual sample of Timbuktu sitting in its usual spot, untouched. I guess I should at least label the darn sample today.

SOTD = ELdO’s Fat Electrician, from the sample stash. It does explain why I was enjoying the smell of vetiver.

It feels like spring to me with our temperatures in the forties – much better than than the cold snowy winter we all lived through here. I put on something that’s actually more like summer than spring, Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto. I am really enjoying it. I also found a new dark chocolate treat at the store today: Alter Eco’s Deep Dark Salted Brown Butter bar. The chocolate is so smooth and you can really taste the butter in little spots here and there on the bar. (No, I didn’t eat the whole bar; could have, though!)

Goutal La Violette today. At least for the morning. This afternoon I’m testing Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool. I liked the coconut opening but the driftwood accord is not totally pleasant on my skin…

Cold, wet and cloudy here- my spring perfumes are still sitting in the drawer.
Dosed myself with TF Sahara Noir- the most beautiful incense I’ve smelt to date. Glad I bought a bottle before the scent got discontinued.
