Mrs. White's Unstung Hero: "Here comes an all natural repellent with a revolutionary formula which combines a fragrant, fresh Eau de Cologne and an ingredient that renders you invisible to mozzies, ticks, black fly, wasps and bees. The uplifting lemon tea fragrance is suitable for both men and women which means you can be protected from the pests but smell delightful! " 250 ml for $38 at Shen Beauty. (And it doesn't smell so good, but I am a big fan of the After Bite Itch Eraser too. You can get that at most drugstores.)

Has anyone tried this and found it effective against mosquitoes? I don’t think I’d trust it against ticks. I once went on vacation in southern Illinois with 4 others and we sprayed ourselves silly with Deet and still found 50 ticks on us, between the 5 of us. Luckily, none had attached themselves yet. After that, I only trust permithrin, which is sprayed on clothes and shoes before you wear them and allowed to dry. I hope to never have a tick on me again! But permethrin is the complete opposite of natural, and it would be nice to have something natural to keep the mosquitoes away.
Interesting, I would have said all I really trusted against ticks was deet. But certainly, I would not expect this to do more than “help” keep mosquitoes away. It does seem to have some good reviews.
I’ve looked up this product on the website and looked at the ingredients, and I have to say it doesn’t seem to be much more “natural” than may other insect repellents. The main active ingredient is ethyl butylacetyl-aminopropioate, or IR3535, which is found in many insect repellent products. Other ingredients include limonene, geraniol, citral, etc., which all occur naturally in various plant oils (for example, citral is found in lemongrass), but I do not see any actual essential oils or plant extracts listed in the ingredients. I may well be an effective product, and probably does smell better than some other options (I detest the smell of Off!) but I think calling it “all natural” is misleading.
Thank you so much, I did not investigate that at all!
That’s good to know about permethrin. I recently returned from a trip to Connecticut, and I was really unsure what to do to protect myself, since Lyme disease is so much of a risk there. I couldn’t take a large bottle of repellent in my carry-on, and I was hesitant to put it in a checked bag in case it leaked and made a mess of all my clothes. I ended up getting a package of wipes (with DEET), which wouldn’t count as a liquid in my carry-on bag. It’s nice to know that I can pretreat my clothes ahead of time and not have to worry about transporting a big bottle of repellent on the plane.
I got some lemon eucalyptus natural bug repellent which seems to work really well. I am a bug magnent, but wearing this stuff, I was pretty must mosquito free for about 4 hours. Deet gives me a bad taste in my mouth and a headache. Ugh.
Who makes it, do you remember?
It’s called Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Natural Insect Repellant, and it has a big DEET free sticker on it. It’s a clear spray bottle holding 4 oz, with a green cap and label. Target has it, Amazon sells it, my local grocery store had some sold out , and restocked, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. My bottles cost $5.99. It’s a good deal, if it works for you. It keeps the bugs at bay for around 4 hours, before I need to respray, which I am happy to do, since I find the lemon eucalytus totally non irritating. I really like it. No affiliation of any kind of course, just a good review.
