Hump Day! It's also Orange Blossom Day and National PTSD Awareness Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in 4160Tuesdays Sunshine And Pancakes for a day that does not look likely to include either.
Reminder: 6/29 will be Opposite Day...wear the opposite of what would be expected. Suggested by Pyramus, who provided a bunch of examples: La Nuit on a bright sunshiny day, Matin Calin in the afternoon, Voile d’Ete in the depth of winter or Winter Delice in the middle of July, Aromatics In White when you’re dressed all in black.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

NU
Hahahahaha heart
I wasn’t kidding when I said I was going to do the opposite of a typical NSTer by wearing the same fragrance for seven straight days in a row 🙂
Nu must be very good! Is what I’m thinking.
I liked it when I first tried it but now I love it…I think it is a great exercise to stick with one fragrance for a while and see how it changes and shows its nuances over time…..
What a commitment! If I were like you, I would be able to finish many full bottles during the year!
Indeed you would 🙂
in honor of orange blossom day, I will have a cafe blanc later on today
I am in No 19 perfume from the 90’s
Last night I made a tagine with fennel from the farmers market, it was good but the recipe called for fava beans and I couldn’t find them anywhere..so I looked for lima beans and the same thing..so I added peas.
The little ones are occupied with some books so I am drinking Lapsang Souchong and listening to Le Trio Jourbran
Yay for books, nice tea & music.
Yum lapsang!!!
The smokiness works for me on warm days. Just like incense fragrances work for me in hot wearher.
I am going to prepare a cup right now…..
*weather
Cheers , tea twin !
☕️
I was at a Middle Eastern market last night and pretty excited to see frozen fresh fava beans. I think they were Goya brand, and there may have been other brands, too. They also had all kinds of jarred cooked limas. I personally gave up on shelling beans unless it’s for, like, a garnish, since it’s so much work!
I am in Gres Cabochard. If cabochard means ‘headstrong’, then, I suppose, I should be obedient and compliant? Seems kind of wrong for such a contrary project. :p
HA! agreed…
I did not know that was what it meant! How well it suits the perfume. You smell wonderful.
Thank you. And I obediently agree with both your statements. 😉
????
I love Cabochard. I have a nearly unused bottle of the original parfum that I treasure. Gorgeous stuff.
I found a bottle this weekend at an estate sale for $4. I am trying so hard to downsize and I have 3 other bottles in various concentrations, but how could I just leave it???
😉
It needed to go to someone who’d appreciate it.
It would have been totally irresponsible to leave it behind!
Yup.
One of my vintage faves. You smell great!
(And I am not giving up my BOB.)????
What’s BOB? Barely open bottle? 😆
Back-Up Bottle. ????
I didn’t know that’s what it meant. I have a vintage spash bottle, I love dabbing it on.
I had no clue what Cabochard meant, either. Thanks for cluing me in.
Good morning y’all!
Still not rested but I had to get car inspection done before work. On my way in now. Wearing my lenticular blue-green shirt and a liberal spray of the newest Oeillet Sauvage. I don’t know about the Sauvage bit but it definitely smells like carnations, and lasts a lot longer than my vintage Bellodgia.
By the way, even if I don’t respond, I read all of my replies when I got home yesterday. Thank you ask for your kind comments!
Hey, I am still not rested either — what’s with that? Hope we both get excellent sleep tonight. Meantime, you do smell great — I assume. Have not smelled OS in ages.
It’s been a rough week to be honest. I’m just quietly waiting for the end of the month!
I never smelled the original, but OS is pretty lovely… and heavily discounted online.
I am quietly waiting for some other year 😉
Anne Flipo did such pretty florals for L’Artisan.
I don’t reminder which else she did but I feel like I should try Chasse again. I remember it being very conventional right when I was starting.
She also did Mimosa Pour Moi & Jacinthe des Bois, and my old favorite Ananas Fizz.
Alien sunessence for a rainy day. I have been MIA for weeks as I have been trying to wrap up the school year, attend my state convention and wrap up the financials for said convention, which has been a bigger task than I imagined. Kept wearing perfume but didn’t find any time to check in here. We are leaving on Saturday for two weeks in London and Paris, so I’m looking for recommendations for a couple of afternoons of perfume shopping if I can manage to get away from the boys! Keep in mind that my budget is fairly limited – no bell jars in my future – but I’d like to have some sniffing experiences. Thanks for any thoughts!
I have no recommendations, but I hope you have a fantastic trip and can begin to enjoy your summer.
Parfums de Nicolai is in both cities, and one of the last reasonably priced niche lines.
Harrods if you want the widest smelling experience all in one place.
Bon voyage! Go to Jovoy for the fun experience, even if you can’t afford to buy. Sephora/Marionnaud/Nocibe are more reasonable, so is Monoprix.
I’ve always wanted to visit an Ormonde Jayne boutique. Perhaps you could do it, and I could live vicariously through you…..
You smell great! Have a great trip!
Have fun! I would go to Guerlain and maybe you can get some of the exclusive formats there (e.g. the 20 mL La Goutte Parfumeur travel sprays is better value per mL than their 75mL siblings). Also Duty Free at Heathrow (someone mentioned terminal 5).
Terminal 2 is pretty good too. The prices on Chanel exclusives and the new colognes were excellent when I was just there.
Oh have fun!!!!
One vote for good-value Yves Rcoher. Looks like their rose-oud is still available for ca. 35 euros, and there are a few more in addition to bath and beauty stuff galore.
Duty Free in Heathrow airport has Jo Malone perfumes practically for free (in perfumista terms and compared to the retail in the US). Also, Chanel Exclusiffs are much cheaper in there.
Yes! I just got sycamore and Paris-Deauville for so much less than they would have been in the USA.
Nice! Do a little perfume-math, and your plane ticket was free!
You and Undina are baaad influencers.
Said the kettle to the pot. 😉
You’re making me want to go to London just for duty-free shopping!
Enjoy your trip, it sounds fantastic! ✈
Be prepared for absolute hell at customs and immigration in Heathrow, especially if you haven’t flown in for awhile. The line will snake around FOREVER and will take at least an hour and will move slowly and be hot. I’m sorry but I do think it’s better to be warned. Harrod’s is always good for perfume but I especially love Liberty just because the store itself is so amazing and beautiful. They also have a really good perfume selection there and the last time I went, they had an Amouage guy who was awfully sweet and gave me several nice samples.
Thank you for all of the great suggestions and for the Heathrow warning… we will prepare ourselves. I am going to map out all of the options to see if I can work a few stops in among family activities.
I second Liberty and the OJ boutiques. You also have Selfridges on Oxford Street. Covent Garden has a Dior boutique just for fragrance and cosmetics along with a Chanel next door. Covent Garden is lovely to mooch around and I know they’ also have a large Jo Malone and a few others that I can’t quite think of. I think you and Google maps will become good friends. Have fun and share your stories on your return. ????
Another large sample gone: Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. I really love the simplicity and delicacy of this perfume. So easy to wear. It made it to my full bottle super long shopping list. Not a priority, but I might get it some day. For now the rest of the Jardins from Hermes are making me happy and they will last me forever.
None of the Jardins collection worked for me, but I am glad that they have a fan base. The bottles are beautiful
They have worked for me. All of them are no brainers, office friendly. The bottles are indeed beautiful!
Agreed
I liked it as well and it sells for a song (30ml) online I think at fragrancenet.
Sounds like you are making a good run at those samples!
My goal is to finish some decants/samples this week. I feel relieved about it!
No, YOU’RE refreshing NST because you’re excited to tell everyone about your opposite of the day.
So I’m lying awake last night, thinking about my stuuuuuuupid work fight, which has now been resolved into a compromise that inconveniences everyone and pleases no one. And I think to myself, I shall wear No. 19 tomorrow for steely resolve! Like you do.
But then I remember the closest thing I have to a life motto, which is based on the flower in the gun idea from hippie antiwar protests, that something soft and beautiful could diffuse something hard and violent. Which is to always be the flower, not the gun. That means Kenzo Flower, which is based on the flower in the gun idea. (Did I ever tell you a friend and I wrote a thing about this, which you can read if you google Bidoun and Kenzo together?)
So that’s my opposite – not No 19 for steely resolve, but the softness of Kenzo Flower.
Really nice!
Ooh, I like your choice! What an excellent motto.
I love your choice for opposite day!! It reminds me of the quote “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is that little voice that says ‘I’ll try again tomorrow'”– M. Radmacher Having said that I never got tbat whole “wire mother” thing about No. 19. I’m reaching for Ostara today.
Love that quote.
Be the flower, not the gun. Love it!
Over the past year, I’ve been working on learning how to deescalate tense situations, and I think it is crucial to put our own heads in the right space first in order to do that work. I can see how a mantra like that could come in handy!
LMK if you want to come to my office and deescalate the Exactly How Should the Bathroom Door Work situation of 2018
Um. It should close when someone is peeing on the other side and open when they’re done?
Ha, well you’d think, but at one point in this saga (which involves a poorly installed handicapped access mechanism and which I refuse to divulge more details of because it is so depressing that THIS is the topic of my worst work fight ever), the door would actually UNLOCK AND OPEN while someone was inside if anyone pressed the automatic door button.
Sounds like a new lock needs to be installed, or something to override that, which is obviously problematic. And in a way that works for everyone. Like a door that only opens when the stall’s not occupied and locked?
Good one!
https://bidoun.org/articles/be-the-flower-in-the-gun
That’s really interesting story. Fascinating where Morillas got the idea for Flower from.
Same! I had never heard that story.
I worked for awhile with a female administrator I respected, and on occasions when I would get very angry and want to blast someone, she always said “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” It was truly an important lesson for me to learn as I went on to do some administrator-ing myself. Sounds kind of like a similar message.
Nothing opposite, but I am wearing an orange blossom perfume (APOM) at least! Love APOM, it’s both office-friendly and beautiful.
Then you are on topic anyway, right?
I love APOM and wore it yesterday! Huzzah!
Further testing of Kyoto today – the one ml sample went far too quickly, but a larger spray sample arrived yesterday and I’m liberally coated. I suspect this will in fact turn out to fit the week’s theme, because work has been getting crazier and crazier and today looks like it’s going to turn into a real carnival (and not in a good way). I will be breathing deeply at wrist-level all day. Think I’d better take the new spray sample with me.
I hope you find some moments of peace in your crazy day. Kyoto is a perfect choice.
Kyoto is really good for those insane days at work. You will survive!
Sorry SheriG, hope it goes better than you’re expecting!
I like your “breathing deeply at wrist-level“ technique. Hope the day gets better!
Joining you in the insanity. I wish that I had a clone so I can do twice as much. I hope tomorrow is a better day.
Thanks, everyone — the day has been calmer than I had any right to hope for, and Kyoto has been great company. Still not sure I need (need!) a FB, but it is very lovely and has lasted a good 5 hours now. Meanwhile, a ‘fume-loving co-worker brought in some small bottles of a few Cocqui Cocqui scents and is letting me sniff those all I want. Lots of coconut, and something that smells kind of like banana, but not so sweet. I don’t have the set in front of me and can’t remember any of the names to tell you, but they all seem to be portmanteau-like names.
Glad to hear that your day wasn’t as bad as feared, and that you had some extra perfume sniffing! ????
I’m trying Benjoin 19 for the first time today. It’s a beautiful, rich incense/ amber scent which would be perfect on a snowy winter night. So of course it will be 97 degrees here today.
Have a great day! Maybe I can track down some pancakes.
I am with you on the pancakes
Perfectly on theme, then 🙂
Does the Benjoin 19 work in the heat at all?
For opposite day: Satori!
I live in the West, but smell like the East.
And opposites, that is also me in a nutshell:
I look like the Far East but my heart and soul are so ‘northwestern Europe’ ???? (I was adopted when I was a baby by the best parents ever ????
Great!
You smell great!
How cool!
I love it!
Super!
Excellent!
All the feels!
I’m wearing Eau de Cartier Zeste de Soleil for the first time, and I loved the initial blast of freshness, but it won’t last long on me. Oh well, I picked up a vintage mini of Eau Sauvage, and when Zeste de Soleil goes away, I’ll try the Eau Sauvage.
The first thirty minutes are the best of that one, IMO.
I only get about 30 minutes, but it’s a fun half hour…
Didn’t know if was OB day, but wearing Prada Infusion d”Oranger
I have an older bottle, and it is borderline filthy on me, with enough clean OB to make it office acceptable ( At least to me)
A borderline filthy Prada is it’s own opposite day!
This one is pure skank on me. I love it.
Those pancakes look yummy.
None in my future, have lost 14 more pounds. The struggle is real!
SOTD post shower a test of PP Vientiane, based on the lovely reviews here.
Can’t wait to hear what you think of Vientiane!
Please tell us what you think of Vientiane afterwards- the notes sound lovely.
Am I understanding correctly that you have lost 14 pounds, in addition to another loss earlier? If so, that’s great! (And if you meant that you have to lose 14 pounds before you get to eat pancakes, I’m less in favor of that strategy. Pancakes clearly need to be part of anyone’s long-term maintenance plan. ????)
Yes Marjorie Rose!
24 pounds total!
Yay! Fantastic! Keep up the good work!
I hope you have found strategies that are in alignment with your values and bring greater comfort and happiness to your daily life.
Well goodness Vientiane is beautiful
I thought it might be a bit like Indochine since indochine smells so much like bring in Laos.
But, it’s more like NG Bois d’ascese but not quite.
Therefore, it needs its very own place in my collection. A little goes a long way. I’m just sitting here working and sniffing myself.
Big congrats on your successful weight loss!
SOTD: Cuir de Lancome
Pancakes sound good right about now.
But I can’t complain, I’m currently enjoying a sfogliatella which is the most delicious Italian pastry out there (IMO!) filled with sweet ricotta & citron. Perfect.
Nom.
When I was in Italy over Christmas break, I made sure to sample as many pastries as I could. That one doesn’t sound familiar, though! Guess I need to go back!
Where did you buy this pastry
Little Italy!
Believe it or not, I’ve also seen them at Whole Foods.
That is a lovely scent
You smell fantastic!
That pastry sounds like something I need in my life!
Yes, need you do.
Drooling at that pastry description!
Today’s SOTD is Provence Sante’s Tilleul, a favorite linden blossom (w/matching lotion) that is reasonably long lasting on my skin.
I mix it with a touch of Kielh’s Musk lotion to extend wear time and deepen the dry down. 🙂
Sounds yummy. I love linden, and the trees are blooming here now, yay!
Kevin reviewed that fragrance here, and he liked it so much, I blind-bought it! And I still have it. ????
Fleur de Peau.
The Cure’s Friday I’m in Love on the way in to work this morning. I wish.????
Those pancakes look delish btw!
OB day, I guess I will layer some orange blossom body cream with my Profumum Fiori d’Ambra. 🙂
Yum!
SOTD is L’ombre dans l’eau… to (hopefully) keep me smellin’ like a rose during a project review with a difficult manager.
Ugh… Good luck!
You smell so good!
Good luck with that project review!
A rainy day here, I overslept and didn’t get my tea this morning. What!? Lol…. sotd is Coco Noir, total opposite of its name and bottle. I can forgive the noir, because the bottle is so stunning, but why use the Coco? They could have just called it Chanel Noir.
Having to face the day without caffeine is just not fair. Diet Coke to the rescue? You smell good, no matter whatcha call it…
Diet coke definitely came to the rescue!
I do love that bottle so much.
Me too, it’s perfection, really.
I like coco noir
Have you tried the body creme? It’s delicious
No, not yet, i imagine it’s beautiful
Chanel Noir would have been a great name.
Right? I think the Coco really throws people off with the preconceived notion that it will smell like Coco. I really had to revisit Noir and smell it as it’s own scent before I let myself enjoy it. Same with Black Opium..
I think that your rainy weather is heading my way either tonight or early tomorrow morning. ☂????
I wish the rain would stick around, we are in for 100 degree temps this weekend. The heat doesnt bother me as much as worrying about all the power everyone will be using and my car overheating.
No triple digit temps expected here, but the weather guys and gals are talking about heat indexes again in the extended forecast. Maybe even for the 4th. Yuck.
Hope you can stay cool!
I was almost late to work this morning because I couldn’t decide what perfume to wear. I ended up choosing Parfum de Therese and am happy with my choice!
Maybe plan ahead, this way you don’t have to rush before work
Sometimes I do this, but often it doesn’t feel right the next day!
Totally legit reason for tardiness!
First world problem!
So true! A good problem to have!
SOTD is Diptyque Geranium Odorata layered over Eau Rose body lotion. Hoping to spark some joy on this decidedly un-joyful, pre-thunderstorm, full-moon day.
Those are cheerful scents; hope they do the trick for you.
Thanks!
You smell lovely !
I like this combo!
Hi AnnE!!! We had a fairly clear sky last night, and the moon was amazing.
Hi Laura, I’m glad you got to enjoy it! It was all overcast here.
No SOTM, yet. I woke up super groggy, and choosing a fragrance sounds hard right now.
But I *did* want to say, in honor of my fellow PTSD sufferers, that we all benefit from continuing the practice of compassion–for ourselves and others. You truly never know what others are experiencing, and some of us are very good at hiding internal challenges.
Between that and perimenopause, I have new appreciation for how we are not in nearly as much control of our minds as we’d like to think we are! And sometimes, we just need to burst into tears while shopping for breakfast cereal*, and the folks around us will just have to understand that. ????
*hypothetical, but totally plausible, scenario
It truly is amazing how much our emotions are tied to the chemicals washing around in our bodies. My favorite short story, George Saunders’s Escape from Spiderhead, is about this taken to a disturbing extreme. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2010/12/20/escape-from-spiderhead
Kind of you to respond. But unfortunately, Trigger Warning to anyone else who reads the link–nonconsensual sex, self-inflicted violence, suicidal themes.
Oh, indeed! Sorry for omitting and thanks for adding!!
I find I cry most easily in grocery stores. I don’t know why. I didn’t know other people did this.
Yes. Grocery stores can bring out my vulnerability. That and public transit, for whatever reason. I could go the rest of my life never silently weeping while looking out a bus window ever again . . .
Sometimes, I think it’s because if I cry in the grocery store, I know I won’t let myself totally lose it. I’m sorry you cry on the bus Marjorie Rose. Hugs to you.
the practice of compassion — yes to this!
I like thinking about it that way–as a practice. Which means I can give myself permission to keep working on it, an act of self-compassion as I practice being in a compassionate mindset.
We’re twinning today.
No perfume yet, and I overslept.
Sending you a virtual hug.
Take good care of yourself.
Sorry to hear it, Tiffanie. {{{{{hugs}}}}}
Yes to this!
Diorissimo. Prayers and hugs to all those who suffer from PTSD. I have a friend who recently was riding his bike and someone ran into him. He was pinned under the hood of the car and was dragged for several feet before the person driving noticed what had happened. I know if/when he gets over his numerous physical injuries, he is going to have some bad memories of this trauma.
Dear God. I will say a rosary for your friend. *virtual hug*
My prayers with your friend.
Adding my prayers.
My heart goes out to him. That experience will be life-changing.
I can only imagine! That’s a tough one!One can only give support and love after something like that.❤️✌????
Oh geez. What a horrible experience for your friend, Barqs.
Oh how awful!
Thank you for the good thoughts and prayers. It was terrifying the way he described it happening.
I am heartened a bit to know that he is able to even describe it. Gracious. And ever since that article in the New Yorker about the traumatic experiences of drivers who have hit people — and discovering that this had happened to a friend — I worry about the drivers, too.
I read this only now. I hope you friend recovers soon, both physically and emotionally.
Happy Wednesday! Hump Day!
1) We are on track for a VERY solid end of quarter.
2) Am in Jasmin today- I did not know it was Orange Blossom day! I would have worn Infusion d’Oranger!
3) Super sunny morning- but we may get clouds in the afternoon!
4) Saw Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, which was inadvertantly hilarious! No one in the film, save the Jeff Goldblum character (which he has picked up all these years later) has ever studied philosophy or ethics at all, and so do extraordinarily stupid, short sighted things (this is lampshaded by one of the bad guys actually.) So in the end, very stupid greedy bad people get chomp chomp chomped, the earth is overrun with wild dinosaurs and Jeff Goldblum think we are all crazy and nuts and DOOMED. 10/10 would recommend, even better with a group of people so you can clutch each other! 🙂
5) BONUS: There is this show on Netflix called Escape to the Continent, about very fortunate Britons who want to decamp to the European Continent to pursue a different way of retirement or business opportunities. This selection of the shows was filmed pre- Brexit so it is an interesting artifact. I yell at the TV when I have it on. The picky couple for the Balearic Islands one still irk me, as do the couple who were messing around in Dubrovnik.
We saw Fallen Kingdom Sunday afternoon. Very entertaining, indeed!
😀 I watched with a root beer float and some of my older friends and we were giddy and silly! We had some teenager shush us! 😀
Did they ask you to turn off your screens, too?
Nah, we already put our phones in purses! But it was great to see some sweet little tweenie say “YOU GUYS SHHHHH”
Root beer float at a theater? Color me jealous! We might go see Ocean’s 8 this week. I’ve been excited about it since I saw a trailer this winter 😀
Oh it looks like great popcorn fun! and yes, Living Room Theater in Portland does root beer floats!
Ocean’s 8 is fun and entertaining. Worth it for the clothes and accessories. Fits well into the franchise.
Well that sounds like an entertaining movie. I was hesitant, but it may be worth it.
Very silly popcorn fun!
Yelling at the TV is very healthy.
*snort*
Escape to the Continent is one of my current mindless stress reliever shows, having already watched most of the Escape to the Country series and much of the equally stupid show about building a house by the sea in the UK, don’t even remember what that one is called, and all of the Penelope Keith village shows.
I totally get why you sometimes yell at the TV, but that’s just not how I’m watching. I am watching because it’s media I don’t have to yell at 🙂
I am in CdG Sticky Cake whilst on a diet. So definitely participating today ha!
haha nice!
Ahahaha, this was one of my overall wallet-cringing weekend indulgences. How do you like it? I just got my big sample yesterday.
Is that a 1.7 oz. sample?
You know me well ????
I really enjoy it! It’s sweet, but the iris balances it for me so that it isn’t too sweet. I wasn’t crazy about it at first but the more I wear it, the more I really like it. I put it on happily today! 🙂 It lasts a long time on me- all day if a little gets on my clothes.
Also, it’s one of the scents my fiance always comments on (as in “you smell good”) when we hug lol.
SOTD is Cuir d’Ange. Just because I felt like it, not because it’s necessarily opposite of anything.
It’s the opposite of hard-to-wear…?
Do you feel less than angelic, perhaps? 😉
Wearing Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue. I have found Prada’s infusions rather homeopathi in strength, so I sure was glad I was persuaded to give this one a try.
A quiet day at work. Going for coffee with someone I knew from high school who called up out of the blue, so something of a mini-reunion.
How nice. I hope you have fun catching up.
In Orange Blossom floral water, which is clean and very nice.
Getting some work done while my husband surfs around to see the reactions to the earthquake caused by Germany being eliminated in WC.
Boom!
Yeah, I was rather surprised to see that in my news feed this morning. Glad that I didn’t make any bets on the World Cup.
I had such a wonderful but superbusy day at work!
I am so fortunate to work where I work, all the colleagues, the doctors, our patients…lots of laughs through all the hard but rewarding work.Cataract surgery really does change the lives of so many,
SOTD!ELdO Jasmin et Cigarette.I love this one in warmer weather, but somehow it did not work for me today.Still a pretty awesome perfume from one of my favorite houses.
Happy Wednesday!
P.S,also just to say even if I did not answer everyone’s comments yesterday,I do read what you guys respond to me specifically!
X
Hey Johanna, would you mind posting your email address again, pretty please?
Lol,classic typo Hajusuuri!!haha!
You can reach me at via my username here at icloud dot com!????
Omg, it kept coming up as jihanib due to fat fingers and when I thought I got the spelling right, I hit PST Comment without realizing the auto correct – aaaaaaargh!
You smell good! Last night when I wore it, I could finally get the tobacco note very strong. Love it. I usually get lots of jasmine.
Glad you love it as well!✌????
And, dang! I WILL get my perfumed letter out to you by the weekend. I need frequent reminders and reorientation these days.
Haha!No worries Elisa P!There is no time-frame for the letter,so whenever you have time and something cool to write!✌????????????
I’ve noticed that Jasmin et Cigarette can be a shape shifter.
Yum jasmin et cigarette.
I drained my sample a while ago…i miss it…may need to order a new sample or a ‘large sample’ haha
In Arielle Shoshana and Iris Celadon today.
May need a FB of the AS….fruit but sophisticated fruit. ????
And vanilla. There is also some vanilla in the lovely AS. Haven’t been plugging VQ ‘18 as heavily and have to get it trending higher.
Aha! I was waiting for that! ????
Hmm, I think I can actually fit my SOTD into the theme in a few ways. I’m in Montale Amandes Orientales. Opposite 1: Not what I want to be wearing – it’s far too dense and sweet for the humidity (though it’s quite nice in cooler weather) and is making me a bit nauseated. Opposite 2: I avoided Montale altogether for years as I found the bottles rather hideous and the opposite of my personal aesthetic. Then I saw their travel bottles and decided they’re kind of cute. Opposite 3: I bought 2 samples (Almond Quest 2017/2018) and wasn’t sure what to expect. I assumed the line would be way OTT, perhaps a bit tacky. Both samples were surprisingly nice and I intend to try more.
I agree with you about the Montale bottles. I’m sure it’s very practical to have fragrance stored in an opaque metal bottle, but I don’t like how they look. Always strikes me how similar they are to spray deodorant bottles. . .
The dangly thing on the pin (or whatever it is) is what really gets me. But since tiny things are always cuter than big things (says this 5’10″er), the 20 ml travel spray finally got to me 😉
Oh, and for “opaque metal bottle” done right: Rive Gauche! I’ve always loved that bottle and am thrilled they still haven’t changed the packaging.
Hmm. I still see spray deodorant . . . but YMMV. 🙂
Smaller IS usually cuter, and I really have a soft spot for St. Bernards.
That said, St. Bernard puppies might be even better . . .
SOTD = Solstice Scents Vanilla
Last wearing before passing it along. Nice, but I would reach for Indult Tihota if I am jonesing for a vanilla fix.
Day off and I just finished lunch at Nordstrom. This one is underutilized but I hope they keep it!
Note to Dawn regarding breaks — besides checking the Department of Labor website which contains links to the relevant state sites, I suggest reviewing your employee handbook and/or your company’s HR policies. Do not accept not being able to review HR policies as these should be transparent. Meal breaks or any break is not mandated by federal law so you really need to read up on your state’s regulations.
Correction – the name of the perfume is Estate Vanilla
Wearing Iris 39 today from a sample. I sprayed it on this morning and wondered why I haven’t already bought it? Oh yeah, I’m trying to behave, which is opposite for me when it comes to perfume spending. Ugh, but I waaaaaaannnt it.
I ❤️ Iris 39!
Which formulation do you prefer?
The EDP. The shower gel is also fabulous.
I got into conversation with an old guy on the bus into town yesterday. He grew up on a farm in the South Canterbury foothills ….traditional sheep farms…and one thing led to another and before long we were talking about favourite scents and he said that the one smell that has stayed with him throughout life is returning home from boarding school and being met by the smell of ryegrass. It used to fill the air with a fresh, sweet, nutty, grassy note. He got almost teary eyed as he remembered it. So, i’m wearing Primrose and Rye in gratitude for conversations with random strangers
So kind! ❤️❤️
Beautiful.
I got a little teary-eyed reading this vignette. What a wonderful, human moment.
I just teared up too.
Beautiful story.
Yeah scents can be so powerful.
The moment I cut a melon (cantaloupe) today I was immediately transported back to my childhood and those everlasting summer holidays….
Nice!
Love this!
Beautiful post. And I liked Primrose and Rye too.
Today I’ve been wearing Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom. The name is quite literal interpretation of how it smells >_<
Hendley Amora which is much more cheerful than my mood or the weather today.
I’m thinking this smells similar to Lush Amelie Mae. Will need to revisit that one for comparison.
Oh!And I do love Amelie Mae!(LIGHT spritzes,I find it to be a HUUUUUGE perfume!)
Must de Cartier parfum today. 100% sure dh hates this one. But I’m not a fan of his Oud Wood, so…… ????
Have you told him how you feel (or vice versa)? The lovely Mr. Spicebomb has veered away from his namesake over the years, and I don’t always love the alternatives that show up . . . and I know he’s wearing them for me, since I love fragrance! Not sure how much feedback he actually wants, though, so I just stick to appreciating the effort.
Not a perfumed opposite today. SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water, from the sample that refuses to be used up! I keep thinking that each application will be its last, and each time I am proved wrong.
Had a good visit to the dentist earlier today, so that might be opposite from some NSTers experience. I got a thumbs up from the periodontist on how everything has healed from my gum graft back in the spring.
Just spray the whole sample on you, unless it is a large one or you do not want to finish it soon. That happens to many of the full bottles that I am trying to finish. I always think is going to be the last application and it takes forever to finish. I hate it!
Since I was going to the dentist’s office I wanted to underapply, rather than risk gassing anyone out. I might make it my task of the week to finish that sample no matter what! Wish me luck.
Good luck!! Byredo’s opaque samples can really be misleading. Glad for the good news from your dentist.
Ha! I swear some samples actually increase in volume the more I use them!
Late to the party, but otherwise feeling much better than yesterday. SOTD is Eau d’ Eté by Parfums de Nicolaï. One of my favourites for summer.
Late again, but participating in opposite day wth Copal Azur. I’m wearing a floral print shirt and decided incense perfume is the opposite of floral. Plus others have mentioned wearing it recently, and I’ve had a craving for it. I’m finding it a lot harder to keep up with NST on my phone now that we’re in an open office.
I have the same problem and really very little opportunity to comment since I usually work through my linch and breaks. Regardless, I hope you enjoy your new digs.
Yes, I’m really enjoying the new space overall. It’s so beautiful and thoughtful. Our old space hadn’t been updated in large part since the 90s.
I’m also in an open office and we have seating that we can move around. Someone turned the seats to face the whiteboard and the two tiny side tables (each with a writing surface ~ 10″ x 10″) served as the dining table – I’ve been using this space to eat lunch instead of at my desk.
I’m wearing my new Mugler Aura–I took back the bottle I bought yesterday to Ulta along with my 20% off coupon and they promptly refunded the money. No one was in line so it all went expeditiously. It does have orange blossom in it too. It’s really potent–a little goes a long ways. I’m making slow but steady progress on cleaning things out/throwing things away. Swept and re-did my kitchen porch at about 1 a.m. last night (it was finally cool enough) and now I’ve got to re-pot some plants. I’ve got mostly herbs out there plus some nice arugula and a pretty coral geranium. Kitties love the heat and will stay out there all day. I’m late to the party but recently watched most of Season 1 of The Handmaid’s Tale. Just as everyone said, it’s very good. It’s aggravating to view on Hulu due to the many repeated awful commercials. I don’t know if I’ll stay on board for Season 2–does anyone think it’s worth it? (I dislike Atwood’s book, but think the TV show is better–disliking the book is the reason I held out so long–just too didactic.)
I think that series is based on a book that I read a long time ago. If I remember correctly, the book title was the same as the series.
I haven’t watched season 2 yet, but I loved season 1 and the book. We chose the ad free version of Hulu. Maybe you could upgrade to that version?
SotD = Lubin Epidor
orange blossom? check!
opposite? almost! Epidor is autumn-inspired
sunshine & pancakes? it is a sunny day, but no pancakes here, perhaps tomorrow. 😉
Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday wherever your fragrant adventures led you.
