Wednesday scent of the day 6/6

Posted by Robin on 6 June 2018 290 Comments

Hump Day. Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was baptized on this day in 1599. Rest in peace, Kate Spade. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: Bronze Goddess Whipped Body Creme, again.

Reminder: on 6/8, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is detail from Retrato de la reina Mariana de Austria by Diego Velázquez via Wikimedia Commons.

Good sunny morning to all. ???????????????????? Today I am in Chanel Boy anticipating the arrival of my new Les Eaux de Chanel (two of the three) for an upcoming cruise.

Rest In Peace Kate Spade. I’m always extra sad when I learn of people struggling with inner demons.

    Have a great day.

I did the Alaska inner passage cruise last year with HAL via Vancouver. I met up with 4 NSTers there – what fun! Had I left from Seattle, I would have gotten in touch with our Seattle peeps!

SOTD is Knize Ten, quite appropriate for this autummy spring we’re having. Love the Velázquez, especially the clock in the back, quite a detail!

I’ve seen those pictures (and their contemporary offsprings, now there are ‘statues’ in streets and squares) too often to stop at their HAIR, skirts, etc. Sensory fatigue perhaps 😉

        You crack me up 🙂

I should say that I am still madly in love with Mr. CM8…he does so much for our family (laundry, housework, yardwork) and I appreciate him and feel blessed.

And Falling in Love the fragrance is extraordinarily addictive…I might stick with it for the rest of the week 🙂

Quite a few years ago I shared an office with someone who was extremely adverse to fragrance…I got away with wearing scents by wearing lots from the Philosophy line…Amazing Grace, Pure Grace, Inner Grace and Baby Grace were all in rotation. However, I never got around to wearing Falling in Love…until a bottle fell in my lap thanks to a kind NSTer…I am loving it. If you are ever near a Sephora you can always pick up free samples.

Festin d’Or is a lovely green tea flavoured with mint, citrus and flowers. It’s gently minty with a hint of spice. One of my favourites in summer.

Enjoying the comfort so much needed today of the iris and incense in Parfume de Marly Athalia. In a cold, gray, busy day, where I am having a hard time keeping myself awake this perfume and my third cup of coffee are helping in some way.

Have a nice and cheerful day everyone!

Wearing a bit of vintage Poison EdT. I must just get nose blind to it, because I swear it doesn’t last long. Maybe I should decant some into an atomizer.

Anyway, planning a lazy day for the most part, though I do have to find some new pants. My least favorite thing to shop for, let me tell you.

I have a vintage splash bottle of Poison edt. I didn’t find it to have great sillage dabbed, so I decanted some and that’s how I’ve always worn it. I love Poison but tend to overlook it but happen to have worn it just a couple of days ago. Spraying helps, but I don’t actually find it to have the monstrous projection it is reputed to. It is gorgeous and transportive, though. I especially love it in warmer weather.

In short 😉 you smell divine!

I’ve bought about ten pairs of the same jeans (in three different colors and, sadly, two different sizes–currently I need the bigger size 🙁 ) over the past six or seven years. They’re comfortable, they’re cheap, they fit well, and they look perfectly decent. I’m so thrilled to have found them 🙂

No 5 L’eau. Inspired by hajusuuri and KellyC.

In other news, our iMac decided to update itself Saturday night and we have been locked out ever since. All we get is the dreaded SWOD. My oldest-who is my tech go to-is away working for the summer, so hopefully my better half will be able to figure it out. I pretty much live on my iPad, BUT all our photos and music is on the desktop.????

Apple tech support could probably help, if none of your in-house tech support people are able to help 😉

I had a similar problem with an older Macbook and was able to get it solved with a (somewhat panicked) phone call to Apple.

SOTD is Iris Prima, which is a spring/early-summer favorite. It’s one I have to be in the right mood to wear (because of the musk, I think), but when it’s right, it’s very very nice.

I’ve joined Chanel No 5 L’eau club today. Excellent for summer.

Robin, reporting on Berdoues Assam of India. Yes, it’s basic and pretty much what I expected. Did not notice sandalwood during my first wearing, it’s all tea and citrus to me. Pleasant but not particularly interesting cologne for a hot day. I think I’ll have fun layering it with other scents this summer. So the verdict is that I do not regret getting that 5 ml sample but I don’t think I’ll buy more.

In the winter my skin registers the sandalwood…I bought the bottle blind…because of the elephants..and at the risk of sounding like a broken record wore it for seven weeks straight the summer of 2016

To be fair, I only tested it briefly once (on skin), so maybe I’ll find its hidden depths later. And maybe I’ll keep some for a colder weather to see if it changes – thanks!

Honestly, I don’t find it to be complicated or earth shattering…but it is an easy to grab easy to wear fragrance that I pretty much enjoyed in the warm weather…and it was a huge pick me up in the cold weather.

I’m drinking my first cup of espresso, trying to decide what scent to wear today. Next two days are scent-free, as I have some medical appointments on Thursday and Friday, so I’m trying to make today’s scent pick extra special. I might go with Amouage Journey, as I am also driving out of town to my appointments, and that seems appropriate.

I’m wearing Cuir de Russie Chanel EDP, brand new bottle. CdR EDP isn’t as refined as EDT, it’s sweeter too but it’s more leathery, deeper and has more sillage projection and longevity. The drydown reminds me of NARCISO EDT (black cube bottle), I know that’s not what you want to hear! LOL But I’m wearing EDP more than the previous EDT. I guess I’m enjoying it more?

Boy did the Diego Velasquez portrait just send me down a rabbit hole! It reminded me of the illustrations in of my favorite books I had when I was a kid – The Birthday of The Infanta. The illustrator is Leonard Lubin. I tried to look him up, but his biographical information is more hidden than another Leonard Lubin who passed away in 2016. Reading about him put a smile on my face, so sharing it here:

Leonard Alan Lubin, who died Friday at age 67, knew more than anyone that life was meant to be enjoyed. Whether flying down a ski slope with arms akimbo and his big white beard flapping in the breeze or turning flips on the dance floor to celebrate his childrens’ weddings, he relished it all.

The illustrations are magnificent! He was surely influenced by Diego Velasquez. And, I’m giving myself a rabbit hole gold star for searching out Leonard Lubin, finding the memorial page on his high school alumni site and sending them a message. His best friend in high school had written him a lovely tribute, and I just wanted to let her know how much his illustrations meant to me, and apparently the message was received! ⭐️ Robin, thank you for posting Diego Velasquez portrait!

I wore this scent for my son’s wedding day almost two years ago, when I needed something calming, pleasant and pretty. Lots of stuff going on that day — all good stuff though 🙂

    SotD = Beige and Gardenia

My early-era perfume obsession Chanel samples resurfaced during a weekend tidy up. A few dabs of these on separate wrists are nice this morning.

Chanel keeps popping up. What is the universe trying to tell me? In any case, I enjoyed this article about a “sampling of floral fields as you might see them in the Grasse region, transported to Paris.”

I wore my Cougars for 3 years. They were the warmest boots I’ve ever had ( my feet stayed dry while digging out the car) and they are stylish. They are a little pricey for me, but i lucked out on a great sale. Actually you might be able to find some last year styles now on clearance.

Hmm…I have Sorel Joan of Arctic and they do keep my feet warm enough with a pair of smartwools too, granted I don’t spend long stretches of time outside though. I CAN recommend a winter jacket though: Marmot Montreaux. I bought mine a few years ago and I am absolutely in love with it. One of the best features imo is the fleece lining on the inside of the bodice. Also their customer service is fantastic. I snagged the zipper and bent some of the plastic teeth and I called Marmot directly and they told me sure they would replace it no cost. I am now sold on their products for life.

Best of luck with the move! That electric mattress pad and cashmere sweaters will come in handy!????

Commando. Brother, aged 65 with pacemaker, was mugged last night. Robbed of all ID, money, phone, etc. right in front of his apt. My sis & I spent this morning getting cash & flip phone to him. At least he wasn’t hurt. He takes 14 pills a day for his heart problems. What a world! The police were on the spot, but the inconvenience of getting all new ID is a nightmare for him. You never think these things happen to someone you know. Typing this out has calmed me. Oh well, Stay calm and Carry on !

So incredibly sad about Kate Spade, and all suicides for that matter. RIP, indeed.

In honor of She-ra’s ongoing vanilla dedication, I’m in SL Un Bois Vanille.

In other news, I went up to Calistoga yesterday to do some exploring and was walking down the sidewalk when a grandfatherly type guy asked:

    “Can I pet your dog?”
    “Sure, she’s super friendly!”
    “Can I pet you?”
“No, I’m not friendly!” I then growled and snapped my teeth at him. He quickstepped on down the sidewalk… ????

Maybe I’m spending too much time with my dog?

Yes! I’ve been binge watching Will and Grace, I forgot how funny it is. And “Karen” was “Tammy” on P&R, so hysterical… I might have to watch from the beginning…

LE Chevrefeuille is on my list, I have put it in and out of my cart on FragranceNet so many times, I go around and around trying to decide how I might spend $100, and then I usually drop it on something that was not even on my radar

Saddened by the news of Kate Spade.I loved her cheerful designs.
SOTD comes with a story…as part of my resolution to not only do a capsule wardrobe, but a “capsule life”,the perfume collection is being culled and streamlined.I took a couple of unloved-in in some cases unsmelled and unopened perfumes-to work to have a mini-sale during lunch this past Monday. There was about 20 perfumes of which 5 remained unloved and unsold. Thus, giving love today to one of them, and really enjoyed wearing it,and received a couple of great compliments.Which I never fish for,but always appreciate.
Valentino Uomo. It’s a keeper after today!
    Hug your loved ones.

That is why our collections never get drastically reduced, because once we tried again some of the “unloved, unworn” ones, we find out that they are in fact good enough to keep. But at least you got rid of most of them and that is a big achievement! 🙂 ????

Someone here had mentioned using a Korres shower gel recently. Unfortunately, it looks like Sephora no longer carries them. ???? I’m glad I stocked up on a couple of favorites while I still could.

SOTD = ‘Replica’ Tea Escape EdT, from the sample stash. It’s the first Maison Martin Margiela I have tried that I like. It kind of reminds me of green tea flavored Pocky, or maybe green tea bubble tea. It’s something fun for warm weather.

SOTD = Prada Infusion de Rose

I think this entire series is Summer appropriate!

Sad about Kate Spade. While I have not spent much time on the news, it seemed no one close to her willing to be quoted was surprised at all by this turn of events. I guess one really has to want to be help for the assistance to work.

My family was also touched by the suicide of an uncle which meant my then 90 year old grandfoa outlived both sons. He left a note for grandpa but the family decided it was best to tell him that my uncle died of a heart attack considering that my other uncle was kidnapped and murdered on his way home from clubbing a few years prior (and grandpa was told that it happened on his way home from work). Anyway, I think my grandpa knew the truth. BTW, the nurder was never solved.

    Onwards!

Wearing some Chanel No 19 vintage EDT for tonight. Hope everyone made it though hump-day unscathed!

I’ve never smelled vintage but love the current. I’d imagine you smell perfect!
