Hump Day, plus Sea-Monkey Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
When I was young I used to love to go see the First Lady gowns at the National Museum of American History. They've updated the exhibit several times since then, and the more relevant they make it to modern concerns the less I like it, but that's the way, right? Shown above is detail from a reception dress owned by Lucy Hayes, but for scent I've gone with a favorite of Jackie Kennedy's, Jean Patou Joy. Joy would work for any formal gown, and it's doing just fine with my ratty old cardigan (it's quite chilly here this morning).
Reminder: on 5/18 we're celebrating Museum Day. Wear a fragrance to match your favorite painting (or other object, anything you like!) in a museum, and if you can, post a link to an image.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Vintage Hermes Bel Ami, another one of those scents it took me decades to appreciate. Bitter herbal leather, utterly gorgeous.
Ohhhhhh, I’m SO envious. I’ve only experienced the current(ish) formulation.
I adore vintage Bel Ami, the cocktail shaker bottle is so cool! You smell wonderful!
I wish I could smell this. Even the current is delightful, my dad loves it.
I was thinking about Georgia O’Keeffe for some reason this morning, so I found this painting:
https://whitney.org/uploads/image/file/95913/xlarge_okeeffe_series_i-no.3_frame3.jpg
and decided to wear The Body Shop Bowhanti to go with it.
Also, the Google doodle today commemmorates Tamara de Lempicka’s 120th birthday. I think this might be one of her more famous paintings:
https://getcustomart.com/products/tamara-de-lempicka-autoportrait-tamara-in-the-green-bugatti
I am a fan of Georgia O’Keeffe as well! Well done!
“Green Bugatti”! That would be a fabulous name for the right perfume.
I love both of those paintings. I want to go to the Georgia O’Keeffe museum in Santa Fe soon…maybe this weekend.
I’m in OJ Woman today, to comfort me through training today. I’m the trainer and am decidedly bad at it.
You smell great! Hope it brings you the comfort that you need.
You smell great at least.
Niki de Saint Phalle today, sober yesterday’s poll reminded me of it. It’s be 94 degrees today so I’m staying in the shade with this green gem.
Since*
Oh good that you clarified, i thought oh, are we supposed to be drinking too? Lol
Ha!????
Haha!!I thought we were??a Toast on fine art.AND perfume!!✌????❤️
We need a drinking project I’m sure.
Name a drink and a perfume to wear with it. Bonus points if you get that drink over the course of the weekend!
Yes, something like that. I think we did a boozy project, but this would be more of a matching project.
Hello frangrant friends, been away celebrating my 65th with my sister and seeing family.
It was too warm to wear my new Ta’if so I packed a travel size of O Unknown as l step forward into the next unknown.
It grew on me everyday ( not like mold) and when I unpacked last night there I was breathing in my clothes before putting in the laundry!
Post shower today, JM dark amber and ginger lily. I did try the jasmine sambac marigold in Bloomies when in Orlando and had to go scrub off in restroom.
Happy 65!
Happy birthday, apsara!
Happy Birthday! Glad you are mold free. ????????
65 is the new 35

Happy birthday, Apsara! Glad you can celebrate with your sister and family —
Wishing you a very happy birthday.
This is probably more literal than I’d choose for Naja if I had more time today, but this is the 1935 photograph of Mrs Edward Meyer as Medusa, from Madame Yevonde’s series of society ladies as goddesses:
http://visualarts.britishcouncil.org/exhibitions/exhibition/be-original-or-die-photographs-by-madame-yevonde-1998/object/mrs-edward-meyer-as-medusa-yevonde-1935-goddesses-p6977/objects/all/page/1
(Yevonde was one of the very early and influentual proponents of colour photography–you can still see traces of her style in editorial fashion photography. Also, I have a gorgeous photograph by her of my dad as a little boy. )
That is an amazing photo!
It is astonishing to me how current that photo looks.
Thanks to everyone for their summer scent suggestions yesterday. I’ve made a list to go and sample. Put on sample of the new Coco Mad Intense this AM. Never, ever liked the original, but thought I’d give this a try. Even though it’s called intense, it isn’t in your face screeching for attention. It seems more evolved, less celebrity -like. I’m not running for help yet anyway.
Is cologne on the table? I feel like it depends on how much you are wiling to reapply. I like to reapply as a way to take a break, so if you feel the same maybe some of the Guerlain classic colognes? Or maybe try the new Chanel colognes when they are available?
I’m wearing au The Rouge for the first time today. Just received a mini from eBay. So far I’m liking it. It has more heft than many of the au The collection.
I sprayed that at Ulta the other day…..it’s a good one!
My stupid ULTA got rid of all the Bvlgari except for the omnia flankers.
Boo
I am GUESSING that occasionally someone will return/exchange a scent for some reason, and it gets put on the shelf as a tester. Every now and then I’ll see a scent they don’t usually have (or is several years old)….
When I returned a bottle of Bronze Goddess edp, they actually threw it out in the garbage. This was at The Bay in Canada. Needless to say, I was shocked at the waste. Maybe it’s their policy to throw out all returned cosmetic items.
I exchanged it for the eau fraiche instead; I don’t normally return much (if anything). To me there isn’t any difference in a returned frag being used as a tester (like you mentioned) instead of throwing it away.
You smell great !
Myrrhe Eglantine is my SOTD
Buddhism meets Ottoman Empire or vice versa:
https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/444891
I am looking forward to trying that one.
let me know what you think
Is this the one in which you smelled mushroom? Do you still smell it?
Yes..mushroom is something I smell for sure
Have you tried this one yet?
Yes I have a 15 mL bottle – I’ve tried it, but need to spend more time with it – I don’t smell mushrooms per se, but I could see a mustiness being there
I want that dish!!
That’s a striking dish. Love how the border pattern and central pattern work together.
I am wearing Guerlain Insolence and drinking a cup of orange spice tea.
A little bit of Guerlain Insolence goes a long way. I have had this bottle for eleven years, one of the oldest bottles I have. When I was in the EPCOT Guerlain boutique last month, I noticed the bottle has changed for Insolence. It now looks like a traditional Guerlain bottle, which isn’t a bad thing by any means.
You are right…a little does go a long way. I bought a small bottle recently of the old bottle – so distinctive. But the new bottles are pretty and very Guerlain.
You smell great! Insolence has great tenacity. When worn at night I can smell traces on my bathrobe for days.
I adore the off-kilter Insolence bottles. I bought the edt unsniffed just because the bottle makes me laugh, and at less than $40 I figured it was worth a chance. Glad I did because the fragrance also makes me smile every time I wear it.
you smell great!
I don’t own a bottle but I sprayed some at a store and when I left I got 2 compliments from strangers..this was last year…I will never forget that moment..
I do like the older bottle because of its quirkiness. I like the traditional Guerlain bottle also. Like I said, not a bad thing at all. Both are nice 🙂
EdP or EdT? They’re quite different it seems. Both lovely.
EDT. I know I have a small vial of the EDP around here somewhere. I will have to locate it and try it side by side with the EDT.
EdP seems softer, richer. I have and prefer EdT, but my sister got the EdP.
I’m in PdN Vanille Tonka today (thanks, Mals!). I needed something that felt like a hug today… not feeling great but need to power through the last 3 days of regular preschool.
So glad it made it to you!
You smell wonderful! Are you the teacher or the parent? I heard an adage recently “this is hard, this is normal, this will change” it was related to caring for newborns, but I have found it very comforting for many situations!
I’m the music teacher. Today ended up being a good day- my last class was the 2’s, who started the year staring blankly at me and ended it with every single one singing along. And I got a card with a gift card to the coffee shop up the street. Winning!
That sounds like a lovely day. I am so glad to hear your students progressed so well!
That is so great! I love my kids music teachers 🙂
Almost there, MMKinPA!
Today I’m smelling great in Gucci Rush. I decided to match it with Patrick Nagel women pictures, which also fits into the art deco theme, i was looking for. The match is good because they are both fun and sexy, and a bit dated. (Like me!) I used to have about 6 Nagel prints, but had some stolen. I still have 2 left hanging up in my basement. I so wanted to be one of those women. If anyone feels like providing a link, please do.
…like the cover of Duran Duran’s album Rio?
(uh-oh, I just dated myself. IT WAS MY SISTER’S ALBUM OKAY?)
…sure it was.????
It really was her album.
What I am avoiding telling you is that my sister is 4 years younger than I am.
You just made me snort my lunch.
That’s the one!
Oh, I remember that album! I love Duran Duran, and Nagel.
Both awesome!
Omg, Nagels!! I haven’t thought about those in so long! Takes me back to 1987, I met a friend freshman year in college who was from the city, beautiful and sophisticated.*sigh, all the things I wasn’t* I so wanted to be one of those women too. She had Nagel artwork and they will forever remind me her. I think it’s so cool you still have them! Sorry some got stolen.☹️
Great pairing!
Yeah, it sucked because one of them was a large print, my mom was storing them for me, and she had an unscrupulous neighbor , who I suspect of taking many things. But I reported him, but nothing ever came of it. Unless my many curses have worked ????
great pairing!
Thanks!
Oh I loved those! My brother had a couple of the prints in his bedroom as a teenager.I always thought they looked like Isabella Rosselini(most of the ones my brother had)
They were all so stunning.
Another solid matchup, lillyjo! You definitely have a knack for this community project.
Aww, thanks! I really don’t know much about art or museums, so this project intimidated me a bit. I’m just going with what I know and like.
Good morning Y’all…..
Cutting thru the steamy rain and humidity with Atelier Pomelo Paradis….GOOD STUFF!
That one always makes me think of you.????You smell great!
I snagged a FB of this from a local Facebook sale page for next to nothing. Great for a hot day!
Down in the 40’s this morning (6C) so I took advantage to wear a spicy heady floral, Micallef Denis Durand Couture.
I had a biggish sample of that one, and it’s really good. Probably too much patch for me to wear frequently, but I skeers easily. 🙂
Crown Perfumery Crown Bouquet today, for our (finally!) wet springy weather.
Spent last evening in the ER with my sweet MIL, whose nose would *not* give over bleeding. Seriously, four hours of a nosebleed is more than anyone should have to bear. (Her BP was really high when we went in, and the meds brought it down but it still took that long for the bleed to stop. She is under medical care for her blood pressure and probably needs her prescription adjusted.) Just talked to her and she’s feeling better today.
Very sorry for MIL and you, glad things are better today. My dad had a scary nose bleed once, his doctor adjusted his BP meds and told him to stop taking aspirin.
Oh man, I didn’t think about aspirin. B is taking a baby aspirin every day, but maybe her doctor will take her off it for the time being.
Hope she’s feeling better today.
I think once she got some rest she felt better. Although she says the “rhino rocket” feels weird and it can’t come out until tomorrow night.
Wow, that is scary! I hope she is doing well today.
My mom fainted on Sunday because her blood pressure medicine was not properly calibrated. That stuff is tricky!
Indeed, it is.
Oh, and I forgot my image: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/green-spring-meadow-with-yellow-flowers-and-tree-digital-painting-matthias-hauser.html
So scary.
Very scary episode with your MIL! I hope that things are sorted out now and she won’t have that happen again.
Wow. Nose bleeds are crazy. Glad she feels better. Must have been kind of scary.
Beautiful painting. So cool and quiet looking.
I cheated a bit by deciding to crack open my bottle of AG’s Eau d’Hadrien first and picking a painting second, but I did find a nice van Gogh painted not too far from Goutal’s birthplace: http://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/436535
Eau d’Hadrien is very light and lemon-y; I think my bottle is old enough to contain real oak moss but I get only a hint of it.
Nice pairing! I love that work by van Gogh. Students where I teach music used Wheat Field with Cypresses as inspiration for their own paintings. Their art teacher likes to challenge the kids. It was fascinating to see their work on the wall, each piece unique, but each clearly speaking of the original.
Wow – what a great story! I don’t know van Gogh paintings of the South of France well at all, but I’ve been exploring the examples on The Met’s website today.
Robin, I love this picture, and I would love to see the First Lady Gowns exhibit, I have never been. It reminds me of an exhibit I saw when I was a kid, the gowns of the Fiesta San Antonio queens – boy did that leave an impression on me. More recently I saw an exhibit on Grace Kelly, and I was shocked at how truly tiny she was, she was like child size, which doesn’t come across on the screen, at least to me.
Left the house without perfume, so I put just a dab of a nameless oud attar that was given to me by an aquantaince when she came back from Dubai. It’s for women and its sweet and resinous, and I like it.
ALSO – if anyone who is reading this is interested in splitting a shipment from SUGANDHCO, please let me know. I was recently so impressed by Persolaise’s review of some of their scents, I am considering placing an order (they are based in Lucknow, India). Shipping to US for 6 attars (10ml) is $30, and shipping for 12 attars (10ml) is $40. I think I would like to order 3/4 but 6 seems like a lot.
please email me if interested:
a cal der aio to the geeeee male
Would you mind linking? I found a Sugandh Co online that is a clothing store. I would very much love to buy a lot of those clothes, but I don’t think that’s the right company….
yes, of course, here is the online store:
https://scentkart.com/
they don’t have an online option for international shipping, but they respond to emails very quickly, and got me the shipping info that way.
Here is Persolaise’s review, from the minute marks: 17:53-32:30.
https://youtu.be/F0Ib9R6RsQs
He talks about:
Amber Musk (under Attars Devotional, Rs. 1000)
Gulbahaar (could not find online, $16.00)
Garja (under Attars Unisex, Rs. 180)
Jashn-e-oudh (under Attars Unisex, Rs. 480)
Thanks! I’ll take a look. There is literally nothing I need (NOTHING!), but hey, if you’re thinking of getting a shipment anyway….
I did see your list of recent acquisition which was very impressive 🙂 I’ll keep you posted if I’m definitely placing an order
I love exhibits about clothing in general, it’s just a fascinating way to look at history.
Grace Kelly was 5′ 6-7″, that’s taller than me!
Wow, I did not realize that she was taller than average – but based on the dresses I saw, she had a tiny waist and a tiny frame. Even my skeleton would not fit in them ????
That, I can believe!
Love your avatar! I’m finding myself strangely fascinated by this wedding. I was set to get up early in NY but CA time is pretty scary to contemplate.
The Met had an exhibit of gowns by Adrian some years back – the women in the Hollywood of ‘30s and ‘40s were so tiny!
Maybe you can record it? I’m on the East Coast and we recently got rid of our recording ability – so I’m going for it!
I can, but only at home in NY. No recording in CA. I think I’m gonna try to do it live…. what the heck. Why not? I can nap later….
You’re hard core! Only 2.5 more days!
❤️????????????????????
I’m wearing L’Arte di Gucci, which made me think of El Jaleo (at the Isabella Stuart Gardner museum in Boston), though the red stands out more in my memory than it does in the actual painting: https://www.sartle.com/artwork/el-jaleo-john-singer-sargent
Gorgeous!
Such a wonderful, kooky museum. I went to college and grad school in the area and loved to visit.
Yes, I love it! The atrium of my dreams
That is one gorgeous painting!I love the way he uses shadows and light in all his works.
Sampling Lilas de Minuit from DSH which is a lot deeper/ earthier than most lilac scents because it’s theoretically a floral for guys. I like it.
Oh, that sounds like something I need to try!
Like sweetgrass mentioned, I was inspired by Tamara de Lempicka this morning due to the Google doodle. I looked at each of her paintings and fell in love with many. I’m pairing Sweet Anthem Poppy with this one: https://www.wikiart.org/en/tamara-de-lempicka/in-the-middle-of-summer-1928. First, I thought of it because of the poppies in the bouquet, but the perfume has notes of clove, carnation, cacao, and musk and seems like it would fit well on the pictured woman.
Yesterday I wore Eau de Rochas, but I didn’t have a chance to pair it with art.
The SOTD is Taste of Heaven by Kilian, the P(ainting)OTD is Landscape with the Fall of Icarus. The painting is thought to be a good copy of a lost work by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landscape_with_the_Fall_of_Icarus#/media/File:Pieter_Bruegel_de_Oude_-_De_val_van_Icarus.jpg
I chose the Fall for two reasons. Firstly, because Icarus briefly ‘tasted heaven’ when he flew too high. Secondly, the scent has creamy lavender and green notes which match the seemingly calm, idyllic feel of the landscape. But the fragrance also has a bitter, almost burning note which can be a symbol of the death of Icarus.
great pairing!
My painting choice yesterday! Your pairing is much more clever than mine was.
I missed your comment yesterday! That painting is amazing.
SotD = Après l’Ondée
I feel fragile, just a bit tired, so a tender scent seems perfect.
Morning on the Seine near Giverny
https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/437125
This painting reminds me of the great fun I had watching art critic Waldemar Januszcz illuminate the Impressionists:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011DPH1UC
Time for a good hot breakfast and then an attack on the to-do list. Giddy-up!
I hope your day treats you well.
Thanks sistine, the day went ok, I just needed to pull myself up by the bootstraps and get going.
Perfect pairing! Take care of yourself.
thank you, OF! I put a little chocolate in my purse for lunch time because chocolate = self-care. 😀
Love Monet, hope to use one his paintings this week.
Great pairing!
Can’t go wrong with Monet. 😉
Absolutely lovely pairing of scent and art!
merci, Jalapeno!
I would like to fall into that Monet painting while wearing Après l’Ondée. Better yet, a walk along the Seine while appropriately perfumed would be perfection.
Today’s SOTD is vintage Kingdom by Alexander Mcqueen. I picked a video of his Savage Beauty exhibit from the Costume Institute at the Met Museum.
https://www.metmuseum.org/metmedia/video/collections/ci/mcqueen-savage-beauty
wearing eau claire des merveilles as per usual. i realized that my back up bottle needed a back up, so 10 minutes later on ebay….it’s not like it’s going to get any cheaper right?
not sure what art would go with this-something diffuse and golden, like morning light through sheer curtains.
Right! Since it’s discontinued.
And you smell lovely.
Compliments of a generous NSTer, I am trying Shalimar Soufflé Intense and Shalimar Madagascar today.
Both are lovely.
You smell like heaven!
https://www.fridakahlo.org/images/paintings/self-portrait-in-a-velvet-dress.jpg
This.
SOTD Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady. The dark red rose and velvety texture of PoaL reminds me of that gorgeous painting by Frida Kahlo.
House twin!
Love Frida Kahlo – saw her exhibit a few years back when it came around to SF MOMA. Stunning.
Nice match-up!
NICE pairing!
Perfect!
Yep, good one. I wondered what would match POAL. Obviously, a portrait of a woman with a strong personality is needed. Frida Kahlo’s self-portraits are definitely it. And I agree about dark red and velvet!
When I lived in Minneapolis, I lived 5 blocks from the Minneapolis Institute of Art. On gloomy Saturday afternoons I loved to walk over and hang out in the part of the museum with all the transplanted architecture and period rooms. My absolute favorite part of the museum was the Frank Lloyd Wright hallway:
https://collections.artsmia.org/art/19689/frank-lloyd-wright-hallway-frank-lloyd-wright
I paired Dries van Noten with this hallway.
Hey Twin!We smell AWESOME!
What a lovely pairing (I used to live there, too)
What a hallway!
Oh, wow, how beautiful is that! If only we could all have such a hallway with a fine view of the blue lake outside!
I love Frank Lloyd Wright and never even knew that existed! Thanks for sharing!
Just … wow.
Absent for a while with travel and new baby niece duties + returning and work accumulated.
Today in a little homemade body oil made with lolita lempicka & some Bulgari black on top. I guess I am an Annick Menardo exhibit all by myself. ????
I haven’t worn BB in too long, it’s great.
Does anyone here remember 1000 flowers? I found a 30 ml of her “Boy” EDC at a thrift yesterday, and can find nothing about it online. It was well worth the 2.99, will explore more fully another day where I don’t have a headache waiting on the edges and can adventure into something new.
I think that’s still a going concern, they’re sold at Indie Scents. But maybe that perfume is dc’ed?
I took the day off because I have dental work scheduled, so I am wearing a generous spray of Mitsouko and working in the garden before hand. I will shower and put on something light and friendly for my dentist before I go, although I haven’t decided yet what that might be. Something with vanilla in it. Vanilla decreases the perception of pain….not looking forward to this.
Yuck. Best of luck…and may you relax in a pillow of vanilla!
Vanilla or lavender are good for the dentist, last time I wore both: Pour in Homme. Hope all goes well!
That’s *un* autocorrect.
Fingers crossed that your dentist appointment was easier than expected!
Again, I am determined to pick the art first, and then decide on a relevant perfume. But I am cheating a little as I have chosen a painting I loved when I was a girl (and I saw it in the flesh when I was about 11)–John Singer Sargent’s Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose!
Gave up trying to find a scent with carnation, lily, and rose (closest I got was Bvlgari pour femme, which includes among its many notes carnation, rose and lily of the valley….) and went for lily, lily! in Baiser Vole.
I found perfumes in my collection with two of the three flowers, but none with all three. Can you think of a perfume with notes of carnation and lily and rose?
Here’s the painting at the Tate: http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/sargent-carnation-lily-lily-rose-n01615
What a lovely painting – love the lanterns. You are doing great as I’ve just been picking my fragrance, then picking a painting that matches.
I love that painting!
Out of curiosity, I put those three notes into the search box on Basenotes and it gave me 124 matches! You might want to try that yourself. One of the first and best-known was Anaïs Anaïs. I’m already planning to do this search for something to go with my favourite painting (or one of them) for the CP on Friday. It’s a good resource.
I didn’t think to go to Basenotes. I tried to search on Fragrantica, but their engine only allows for searching one note at a time. Great tip!
Click on Notes on Fragrantica & then on the left side of page, click on Search by Notes. You can put in as many notes as you want & put in notes you don’t want. Hope this helps.
Oh!!! I saw that painting as I was surfing the other day and was absolutely smitten. I love Sargent. It’s a beautiful piece of art.
Another HUGE Sargent fan here. If I had to pick one favorite painter, it would be him. I’ve never seen this one, but it’s beautiful. There was a big Americans in Paris exhibit at the MFA in Boston when I was in college there; that was my first introduction to him, with a massive Madame X taking up a whole wall 🙂 Still, my favorite painting of his is the Rehearsal of the Pasdeloup Orchestra (the version with no red-specked audience members). I remember spending a full 20 min standing in front of that painting the first time I saw it. Goodness, I need to go back to Boston just to stare at it again. I haven’t gotten to do so in about six years.
I saw that painting at Tate last year: it’s wonderful!
I found several perfumes that feature these notes but none of them fits the innocence of that painting.
Wearing Fiori di Capri, since it is a comfort scent for me. Soapy carnation with other floral. Makes me wish I was in Capri. Instead, I’m getting on a flight to CA this evening (so needed a quiet, clean scent). Dad is now receiving hospice care at home, and all three daughters will be with him. No idea how long we have. But…he’s almost 91 so we all recognize his time has come. I couldn’t have asked for a better father – his love for us has been deeper than words and showed by his various sacrifices. I’d like to be there before he goes, but I’m at peace with his timing….
Anyway, here’s a painting by John Singer Sargent. Another one of my favorite painters. He spent time in Capri.
https://www.wikiart.org/en/john-singer-sargent/capri-girl-1878
May you have all the love and strength you need to see you and your sisters through his departure.
Oh LizzieB, your beautiful words of your father’s love has moved me to tears. I am so sorry. Sending you virtual hugs as you fly over the Midwest tonight. I wish you and your sisters peace during this difficult time.
I’ll be thinking of you and sending you hugs! It’s very evident from all your posts about him and frequent visits just how much you love and care for him.
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. You and your sisters are so lucky to have a father like him and I hope you’re all able to find peace during these moments.
I’m glad you can all be with him. My thoughts are with you.
Wishing you a safe trip and sending comforting thoughts as you say goodbye to your beloved father.
Your words have also moved me to tears. My thoughts are with you, and I wish you safe travels ????????
Safe travels! I also hope that you will have a few moments of peace and serenity at this difficult time.
Sending perfumed love and hugs your way!Safe travels!❤️❤️
Thanks all., for your kind words. My sisters have just been so wonderful – I’m thankful we all like each other and bring different skills sets. The hospice decision really lifted a huge burden and weight. (Does mean the husband has to bear the burden of babysitting a little one in diapers on his own – friends in town for a big dinner who asked us to care for their baby son…)
I’m sitting at JFK – nerves got me here early and it was a breeze to check my bag and go through security. So, I ate a salad and will read or wander a bit. I never travel this time of day so had no idea how big a nightmare it would be. Easy peasey…
Side note: is there anything cuter than little kids toting their brightly colored roll-ons through the airport?
Can I say again I love this CP? Enjoying the art pieces and pairings.
Oh LizzieB, all my best to you and your sisters.
LizzyB, my thoughts are with you and the whole family. I went thru that with my father last year and I know how difficult it is. I hope the last moments shared with you dad are peaceful and meaningful. I am sending you comforting hugs. Take care and have a safe flight.
LizzieB, I hope you get to enjoy a peaceful and blessed time with your father and sisters… XOXO
I’m so sorry. Wishing you strength and peace.
Also sending you ((hugs)) at this difficult time.
Wearing Philosophy Falling in Love today – sweet sweet blackberries. I figured I could find a still life and I did. I picked this one because it’s pie, and this perfume is sweeter than just plain blackberries. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/breakfast-table-with-blackberry-pie/7QGsFII6Wug09g
Looks so decadent, I want some pie. I told my daughters I’d take them to a bakery after school for a treat, so perhaps I will get some!
I’ve been loving reading everyone’s posts and see all the beautiful art!
Yum! And pretty painting!
Those Dutch masters are the BEST at still life painting! Just look at that glassware!
What a skill to capture glass and reflections that meticulously!Stunning.
I have looked for that scent. It sounds really nice.
Great choice of painting. What do you suppose in that “breakfast” glass?
Sea Monkeys! I used to love those magical comic book ads. At one point in my 20s I kept sea monkeys on my desk at work! They’re not like the ads of course, but still pretty fun.
Today I’m wearing Zoologist elephant, just because I really want to. But let’s connect its intense leafiness to the greenhouse at the Doris Duke Gardens in New Jersey, where I used to go sometimes for my birthday as a child. My birthday is in February and it was always nice to get those greens and flowers and warmth in winter. Gardens are totally plant museums!
I’ve been to the Doris Duke estate. My mouth hung open practically the entire time I was there.
It’s in the eighties here today, so I thought about something floral. I put on just the tiniest bit of AT Sotto la Luna Gardenia and even that one little dab is really projecting. I am enjoying it, but hope others I might come in contact with today won’t think it’s too much.
I think you smell great! Waft over here, please.
The Preakness is coming up this weekend so I’ve got horses on the mind. Picked the painting below and to go with it, I’m in Habit Rouge….a classic like the races for the Triple Crown. 🙂

Oh good one! And you smell great!
You smell just wonderful!!
Great pick! My poor husband will be a wreck on Saturday. He really wants Justify to win. Plus his beloved Fulham club is at Wembley with promotion on the line.
I came across a small box of samples that I’d forgotten about and am trying some of them today. The one that’s gotten my attention, and the most skin space, is Indult Isvaraya. It’s quite heady and super-sweet but in an intoxicating, good way. Lots of purple plum here! Imagine my surprise to find upon looking it up that it’s a Kurdjian creation. I love that guy! It also has plenty of patchouli and some jasmine, but to my nose, plum is the star. I totally cheated today and looked for an appropriate still life. Gosh, there are many wonderful still lifes with plums! I chose this one–Enjoy it! https://shiftinglight.com/2013/08/blue_plums_2.html
Kurkdjian–I should learn to spell his name correctly!
Over the last few days, our autumn has gone from sunny and mild to drab and cold. That’s not a surprise as we are getting close to winter, but it’s been lovely to have the unexpected sunny days.
I’ve decided on OJ Woman this morning, it seems suited to the darker autumn days.
Busy day but I can still smell the beautiful Opardu floating around me.
Ahhh, would love to stand by you…
Opardu! So lovely, maybe I will wear thst tomorrow…
You smell fabulous!
No art to match my perfume today. Back to trying untested samples, and this one is not my thing at all. It’s definitely on the masculine and soapy side for me. SOTD = Berdoues Arz-El-Rab.
Weird sunset in my area last night. It looked like the sky was on fire… a vivid, orange-red that I have only seen in news footage of large wildfires. It was a little unsettling.
More bathroom renovations today. The master bath was finished on Monday, after 2 guys worked on it for 11.5 hours. Today it is the guest bathroom.
Arz el-Rab reminds me of Band-Aids. I like it though I don’t want to wear it.
Congrats on the renovations!
Thanks tiffanie! One minor issue, though, is that the bathroom work did not include painting. And with the new tub & shower, the old paint on the walls looks terrible! However, I think we are done with projects for a little while.
Switched my SOTD for something equally awesome as SOTE…Iris Poudre.I am on a Malle binge!But OH!Iris Poudre’s drydown!!Now THAT.Is art.❤️
True, true!
SOTD + Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles
George Seurat’s Le Cirque at the Musée d’ Orsay in Paris. I could have sworn a version of it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Why this pairing? It’s primarily visual with the orange yellow golden hue of the juice, the scattered dots on the flat side of the bottle mimicking the Pointillist dots and the round side of the bottle reminds me of the jester hat pompoms, clown suit buttons and jugglers’ balls, all evoking the circus though not necessarily represented in the painting.
Marvelous comparison! That Seurat is brilliant, it makes me want to lean sideways. But honestly, you had me at Merveilles. 😉
Thank you and I totally see why you may be compelled to lean sideways!
Fabulous pairing!
Thank you. I may have another Seurat painting for Friday.
This cp is way beyond my reach… (Can you tell that my knuckles drag the ground when I walk?) What I see in my back yard right now — white peony, peach iris, white azalea — is artful enough to please me for the moment.
I wore Papillon Angelique today.
I’m with you in finding my surroundings as artistic as I could wish for. I do admire those who have more educated art “palates” … but I’m not really envious. Not really. You believe me, right? 😉
