Tuesday scent of the day 3/20

Posted by Robin on 20 March 2018 296 Comments

Tuesday, plus the International Day of Happiness, and Fred McFeely Rogers' birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Wasabi Shiso (the old version; Jessica reviewed the new one here but I don't really know how different they are) to match Pantone Lime Punch.

Reminder: on 3/23, to celebrate the equinox, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's colors from the Spring 2018 report for New York.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the ForLife Teabag Teapot ("An unique design made especially for tea bags to prevent over steeping with a mess-free built-in tea bag rest. The lid stays in place as it pours smoothly. The teapot is made of porcelain for maximum quality and function."), shown in Lime, holds 12 oz and runs about $25.

In Coromandel to face a grey, chilly, windy day. For some weird reason I associate the Pantone Chili Oil with Coromandel.

Great choice for the weather and the Pantone color; you smell wonderful!

As Coromandel was inspired by Coco Chanel’s lacquered folding wood screens from China, the Chili Oil association is spot on. Check out the 8th and 10th images (from the top):

Thanks for such a wonderful link. I can see the connection between Coromandel and the pantone. What sophisticated and beautiful taste on all the photographs. They are breathtaking!

Cute teapot! This morning I’m trying Amouage Bracken Woman from a tester I got as a sample from Luckyscent along with my prized bottle of Amouage Opus VIII. I felt sure that Bracken would be some sort of green fragrance and was very surprised by how different it is, at least in the opening. It’s a very odd scent, with its sweet-sour, slightly decayed aura. This one has to stay on for awhile before I’ll make up my mind. I was also surprised when I looked it up to see that the bottle is bright red, a dead ringer for Cherry Tomato up above. Thus far I’m thinking it may best be associated with the vivid chartreuse above or even the bright yellow. Or maybe it’s just black! I can’t decide!

I just bought Bracken woman and the bottle is more beautiful in person than in pictures. It is a dark orangey-melon colour which is slightly sparkly. I even saved the box, which I don’t normally do, because of the pretty paisley pattern on it. It’s an odd scent, green and fruity and sour, it took a while for me to fall in love like Interlude woman, but I really enjoy it.

I am wearing L’Eau d’Hiver, which in my mind is absolutely the Little Boy Blue color. I was trying to figure out why I associate them so strongly and I thought it might be because of those, like, abstract gemstone shapes on the FM website, which tell you nothing about the perfume and half the time don’t seem to match at all… but when I went to check I found that they’ve been replaced by abstract blurry color rectangles that tell you nothing about the perfume and half the time don’t seem to match at all. Anyway, I smell good in a pale blue kind of way.

I agree that L’Eau d’Hiver is definitely blue (and a bit of lilac/violet/lavender shade), so Little Boy Blue works very well here. And they both have an early spring feel. 🙂

I do not know your scent, Robin, but the teapot on the picture matches your chosen color very well.
I am in Balmain Ivoire (modern version). The bottle’s color looks too warm and “yellow” for Almost Mauve, but I think that the scent itself kind of fits (“gentle petal like touch, delicate and ephemeral”). And I think Ivoire goes well with all this snow outside. 🙂

Oh, Lime Punch definitely looks “sour green” to me!
Out of the scents I have, my best match for this color is Eau d’Hadrien. However, I think that the perfect match is Cedrat Enivrant. (Can’t wear it because I gave away my sample.)

My Pantone COTD is Meadowlark, and my ‘matching’ SOTD is TF Champaca Absolute. This has become my favorite TF, as I find it more versatile and season-less than a few others I own from his line that I find specific to particular seasons.

A perfect scent for the first day of spring. L’eau Froide was my first experience with Serge Lutens, which is funny because it’s so different from his older, more “classic” scents. If I were wearing L’eau Froide, I would match it with Pantone Arcadia.

SOTD Hendley Amora which is instant cheerfulness. I’m noticing the deep rose which is almost wine-y today. One of the few fruity scents I like. Pantone color somewhere between Chili Oil and Cherry Tomato.

Mine does. Despite this I have smelled oversprayers of Light Blue and patchouli based fragrances. I try to fly under the radar with low sillage scents either dabbed on the wrist or one spray to the tummy. I save my heavy hitters for days I am home and so far I haven’t been called out.????By the end of the day I end up smelling like Eau de Purell anyway.

Bergamote 22 to go with Meadowlark. I smell springy.????

madtownkid came home from school yesterday and announced that she has decided she knows what she is going to be when she grows up. A librarian. Specifically, a school librarian, because “ they are always really nice, they get to be surrounded by books all day, they get to make suggestions-which I like doing…” then she paused and smiled, “I’d be a really fun librarian.” She’s still in middle school so she’s got plenty of time to figure things out but I have to say I could totally see her doing this. I hope ScentSpirit is reading today….and I know there are other librarians out there…I forget who? Thank you for all you do. You are inspiring young readers every day.????

Graduation is the best, I work at a University, where many of the students are the first in their family to attend college.
It’s truly inspiring to see them in their cap and gowns with their families looking so proud. Makes it very worthwhile.

That teapot definitely looks like spring to me! Stayed up late doing another batch of decants for swaps and I think I smell like all the Pantone colors together now! No decant disasters but some tricky moments with renegade sprayers.

Totally OT but wanted to mention, this weekend I finished the book The Trouble w/ Goats & Sheep which I first heard about at least a year ago if not longer on some SOTD thread here when I was in undercover-lurk mode. Thank you belatedly to all who recommended it then!!! I’m now reading Bringing Home the Birkin which is lighthearted and cute and will probably be finished in no time. I’m committed to 2 books/month in 2018 (which by standards of some here is probably nothing!!) so if anyone who loved TTWG&S has other recommendations for something equally charming, well written and engaging I would love them. 🙂

PSA there’s a 15% off eBay code good today until 7 pm PT. The code is PSPRINGTIME. No affiliation. Full terms in their site. They did this a week ago or so with a 20% code so maybe it was successful. I got myself a much needed BUB (backup bottle) with that code. ???? don’t remember them ever doing these codes before but I like it.

I’m in Jeroboam Insulo today again. Yesterday I was too busy to properly sniff and experience it fully. I shall not make that same mistake today.

Vanille Galante today! I’d been thinking about it because I put some in a swapmeet package, and it did not disappoint one bit. Why don’t I wear this more? And why do I smell iris in it?

Hermès does such a perfect job matching its Hermessence scents to colors that I can’t think of VG going with any color besides that soft orange-yellow.

Spent the morning in Jubilation 25 for men. It’s almost a dead ringer for Avignon. I will spend more time with it tomorrow to really see if it is. I put all my swaps and splits into excel spreadsheets. It makes the chaotic manageable (for me, anyway.)

This time around I printed my spreadsheet, then snipped off each individual’s order (with their address) as I packed it. I slipped the packing list in with the items I’ll be shipping.

Next I’ll print shipping labels and secure the labels to the envelopes/boxes. Before I tape everything up, I’ll have each person’s packing list to check against to make sure I’ve got everything right. ????

I’ll admit that I was super overwhelmed by the number of swaps I’m doing, but once everything was in an excel spreadsheet it started to look doable.

Not feeling too hot today because pollen. I’m wearing Dune, which in my mind is two colors, so the pantone matches would be Blooming Dahlia and Arcadia, which happen to be right next to each other in the picture.

In my mind, Dune is inseparable from the coral color of the box. Really interesting to think about it as a green…

Yeah for some reason to me, it’s a coral color like the box, but also a kind of an aqua/teal color.

I’m in SSS Equestrian today and treasuring every little whiff. This is one I would have like to have a full bottle of. So wearable!

I’m off for coffee and catching up with comments, then to the park to wear out my arm with the Chuck It ball in a futile effort to get T-Rex just a teeny bit winded. Beautiful sunny day here ????

I’m in Carner Barcelona Cuirs, and remembered right after I sprayed myself down that I need to go the PO to mail swap packages. Geez, I do this every time! I prefer dealing with a human, and not the self service kiosk, so I’ll have some tuna and wheat thins, do some exercising, and then get to the PO once I’m not quite so fragrant!

This really is beautiful, one of the best leathers I’ve tried. Smooth, soft patchouli…not sure how dear the prices are. Scared to look.

Has anyone tested Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool? Just curious.
We have a bumper crop of cranberries in the garden and I was picking them yesterday when Sprocket the Rocket (dog) came to see what I was up to. I gave him a few to taste and he wolfed them down and then started eating them straight from the bush, ripping them off the branches like a goat. Never seen anything like it.
Wearing night scented stock so maybe that pink lavender colour?

I always pick him a few blackberries on my morning walk and he likes those. The cranberries are much sweeter, almost sugary like jam. It was the strangest thing and I had to pull him off because i didn’t know if they were toxic to dogs (they’re not).

I have tried Sydney Rockpool, I went to the pre-launch in Wellintgton a week or so ago. I didn’t like it at all, but I don’t like salty, marine scents, so I’m not the best person to comment on this. I did get to say hello to Carlos Huber. My favourite Arquiste is Anima Dulcis, but it’s never quite made it on to my buy list.

I would really like to find which SOTD for me matches that Blooming Dahlia color – I’m a big fan of coral pinks. For now, I’m enjoying the last bits of “Autumn Harvest”, which I decanted for the swap (headed to the Post office this afternoon). This fragrance really reminds me of Ireland, and the weather his pretty Irish too (rain, chilly), so maybe I’ll just spray on some more.
Speaking of Irish, I watched Ladybird last night. Really enjoyed it, highly recommend. I was trying to figure out why I liked it so much and realized a part of it is that these coming of age movies are often either with
    1. unrealistic characters who are too decent or too over the top or too Disney.
    2. if the characters are relatable/realistic, they are male.

Anyhow, a big 2 thumbs up and hope spring will come all of our ways soon (or fall, if you’re on the other side).

For the wonderful grey rainy day wearing my less favorite Amouage – Epic (I like and wear it from time to time but I don’t think I’ll need more than a decant that I had for the last 5 years). It is spicy and on the darker side – so if I had to pair it with the color (I’m not good at that), it’d be probably be the Emperador.

The predicted icky weather has shown up on schedule. ☹ ❄ ☃ Since lunchtime it has been oscillating between snow and the dreaded wintry mix. Mr. Jalapeno bugged out of work early with management’s OK due to deteriorating road conditions. He has already been told to work from home tomorrow.

SOTD = Caron Violette Preciouse EdP, from the sample stash. Violet and I usually don’t get along, but I am liking this. Something about it gives off a similar vibe to L’Heure Bleue. The corresponding color for this is between Pink Lavender, 14-3207, and Little Boy Blue, 16-4132.

In Love, Chloe thanks to a wonderful NSTer. I initially thought Almost Mauve captured it, but I think it’s actually more of a yellow-tinged sandy beige to me. At least today 😉 So Meadowlark + Warm Sand + Coconut Milk.

Has anyone tried YSL Cinéma Festival d’Été ? I love the original Cinema and am wondering if anyone has thoughts on Festival d’Été.

I’ve wondered about it also. I never hear it mentioned.

I have a little mini of it. It is much lighter and more citrus-y, though the original Cinema DNA is definitely there. Probably a little easier and more versatile to wear.

Late today, wearing Mad Madame because I wanted to choke everyone out at work today ???? wishing everyone safe from the storm. Honestly, I feel so bad you all keep going through this winter hell. We’ve had quite a reprieve here this month. Wish I could share it.

I figure that the current weather is payback for the mild February my area had.

SOTD is Lipstick On from a Sephora sample. I think it would match Blooming Dahlia or Pink Lavender. Love seeing everyone’s color matches.

SotM = Iris Ukiyoe to match Pantone’s Almost Mauve

I love this scent. It’s perfectly happy in and of itself, with a wholeness that feels delicious.

Yay! for Mr. Roger’s. I asked at the post office yesterday if the stamps were there yet and was told to check the website. I want those stamps, and I want to wear that red sweater!

And seriously, he is just dishy, could have been a movie star. (Sorry, not sorry.)

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

Perfect any day. It goes with Lime Punch!

I’ll be working from home tomorrow due to the weather – again! I hope I don’t lose power as I have a TON of work to do!

I needed to have a professional looking picture for work and I turned to the Portrait setting on my iPhone 7 Plus. I asked my sister to take the pictures but they were not coming out right. I finally decided to practice with her as the subject and measured out the perfect distance to get the sharpest focus (Answer: 3.5 feet). We did it under different lighting conditions, background and poses from the chest on up. The picture outdoors (with end of winter daylight saving time 5PM lighting) came out the sharpest, but highlighted a multitude of sins. The best one of the lot was a picture taken indoors against a wall with flat paint. I used my mac’s sharpen tool and enhance tool, cropped, then centered the image. I wore a pinstriped lime green (!) single breasted jacket, and tied a gauzy translucent cream with brown leaves and scrolls vine cut out pattern scarf. The end result came out quite nice (if I may say so) and my co-workers amd even a manager thought it was taken by a professional photographer!
