Almost-Friday, at last. What fragrance are you wearing?
For the 2017 project Take it down a notch, I'm in a little dab of Christian Dior Poison.
Reminder: on 1/12, we're doing Rinse, repeat...pick a favorite community project from the past, and do it again. (If you need a reminder, here are the lists for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image is Jennifer Lawrence for Dior Cruise 2018.
Go home to Cali day!
Sotd is more noir epices. Smelled so good yesterday I just continued on.
Safe travels!!
not sure where you are going but be safe..fires, earthquakes and mudslides..
But no hurricanes, tornadoes or ice storms.
six of one, half a dozen of the other
That is true…
Thank you all!
I am home safe
The air smells good
My bathrobe smells like leftover PHI Rose
I shall leap into my own bed
I’ve combined Spicy Scents with wear something from Yves Saint Laurent and picked Opium Homme. Could also be Go Big or Go Home.
Now for coffee and lots of it.
You smell wonderful! Years ago, I sold perfume and Opium Homme was one of my favourites to show customers. Definitely big!
Vintage Yvresse today, from a half-used bottle I found at a perfume discount store. I don’t know if I love it but it is very unique.
Enjoy your Thursday everyone!
Vintage Yvresse is fascinating, though: bright and vivacious, but with that dark chypre undercurrent. I had a bottle when it was still called Champagne, traded it away, realized my mistake, and bought another bottle under the new name before they had a chance to reformulate it.
As far as I can tell it’s one of the last old-school oakmoss-heavy chypres (the IFRA restrictions on oakmoss went into effect a few years later but its use was already on the downswing as scents became increasingly lighter or foodier), so treasure it.
It’s funny, my bottle has verrry little oakmoss. I’ve smelled a few bottles, but now I can’t remember if I found it significantly chypre.
For chypre-chypres, YSL Y can’t be best though. In the same trip I picked up another bottle of Y. Shame what YSL is like now.
Another Forgotten Friend: Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. A heavenly amber and perhaps my favorite.
I really need to reorganize my perfume cabinet soon. I am not wearing so many of my favorite perfumes at all and that is a real waste!
Ha. I’m looking to find a way to organize. Too often I grab what is in front. Too, too many forgotten friends.
Just out of curiosity, is there a scent journal or dairy to keep track of collections and what was worn?
Not on this site. Some people make their own spreadsheets/databases. I don’t keep track personally. I know there is a scent of the day tracker you can use on the Basenotes forum but I don’t use it.
I have a spreadsheet, which is often in need of updating, but using it in the morning to select a scent is too time-consuming. And then where is the bottle? I don’t have that info on my spreadsheet.
I also grab whatever is handy, especially in the mornings when I am rushing.
I am not sure if there is a journal or dairy to keep track. I know many people use Excel to do it. I am sure someone else here can chime in. I particularly do not have the patience to do it.
I use Excel, but I am a CPA, so I have access to it and am used to it
I saw a diary/journal on Etsy (no affiliation) free shipping from Lithuania. I might order one it looks really nice. I started keeping a list on my iPad in Notes.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/507577116/perfume-themed-journal-and-coloring-book
That diary is really lovely!
That is so beautiful! I am lazy about recording my sotd but something that pretty would inspire me!
I use Basenotes (click the SOTD tab at the top.) Fragrantica also has one but I find their interface harder to use because they use pictures rather than words.
I use the Basenotes one too, it’s great. You can look up your recent scents, most worn for the month/ year/ all time etc
Just wanted to say thanks to all for your help. I’m torn between my love of handwriting and my analytical side. Thanks again.
I use the Basenotes.net SOTD once I get to work. I usually take a minute to log in at Basenotes and then NST every morning for a couple of minutes.
When you click on your scent, it will show you the last time you wore it. That’s as much time as I can devote….30 seconds! LOL!
You smell great!
Ambre Sultan is one of my favorite SL fragrances and my reference amber.
Thank you. It is really beautiful.
House Cousins – Maybe I’ll spritz some of that when I get home after work and cello lessons.
Hi cousin! I have never tried Fumerie Turque, but I am sure you smell delicious!
Someone sent me a little decant of that one..need to find it!
Hope you enjoy it when you find it!
I recall this one seeming very sweet. Do you get that?
No, it is not sweet at all on me. It is dry, earthy, woody and resinous. Different from many sweet ambers.
I am doing the same thing….trying to wear scents that have been forgotten and pushed to the back of the bunch! It’s fun to rediscover some of the ones I really like!
It is so refreshing. Rediscovering those forgotten perfumes keeps me distracted from buying new ones. It is as if they were worn for the first time. Sometimes, I forgot how many of them smell….
I bought an expandable spice rack with tired shelves at TJ Maxx. It works great in my perfume cabinet because I was able to adjust it to the full width of my cabinet. I can see all of my FBs. Highly recommend.
Ugh, tiered shelves. Although, I’m sure it’s tired from holding up all of my perfume.
That rack sounds like something I really need. I will check at TJ Maxx during the weekend. Thank you!
Best $12 that I spent this year.
You smell beautiful –and smooth – and classy – and a little bit like upscale make up! (to me)
Thank you Coin-op! 🙂
You smell great!
Thank you!
Continuing my Uncle Serge week with Fumerie Turque.
Tobacco, honey and leather.
This is definitely a Bad Girl scent on me, and I love it!!
Love that one, you smell fantastic.
I have not worn that in ages…nice pick.
One of my top five loves. You smell great!
SOTD is from another forgotten decant: TDC Bois d’Iris.
Need to unearth my sample of VCA Bois d’Iris and fix the differences between the two firmly in my memory (I tend to confuse them).
Have we done a theme like “Same Name, Different Perfume” before?
Great idea! Could even be interpreted as one of those fragrances where it’s the same perfume house and allegedly the same perfume, but reformulation made it an entirely different animal.
You smell great, I love TDC’s Bois d’iris!
I am not familiar with the VCA one though.
I think the TDC, VCA and the Heeley one all get assimilated in my brain. I only own the TDC version.
To my nose, VCA is much sweeter.
I loooooove the VCA although I admittedly have not tried TDC one.
Miss Dior, Miss Dior or Miss Dior?
Lol
Continuing the Vol de Nuit Signature Scent Challenge in straight vintage EDT this morning, because I have to go to a meeting in one of those rooms where the chairs are all way too close together and I don’t want to gas anybody out. Will probably take my little decant of the EDC and respritz later on – might be an interesting comparison, actually.
You have smelled so wonderful all week
Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain note, Day 4.
Wearing ELDO Fat Electrician (chestnut cream) and Fils de Dieu du riz et des agrumes (rice and coconut).
I recently purchased Fat Electrician and it has fast become a favorite go to scent.
Fat Electrician is an easy vetiver to wear. It is one of my favorites too.
I find it quite strange, in a wonderful way.
it is unusual, but enjoyable!
I find it quite strange, in a wonderful way.
To me, top notes are strange, but the heart and base notes are all about a very nice vetiver.
GORGEOUS scents today! Fat Electrician is soooooo good, and Fils de Dieu is easily in my top 3 scents ever…..
I thought about you when I was applying Fils de Dieu. I occasionally watch your YouTube channel, so I remember you are a big fan of this scent.
WOW! You remember that! (That’s great!) LOL Yes…I LOVE Fils de Dieu!
SotD is Fou d’absinthe
Not following a community project this week, though I loved most of the projects so far. I’ll try to choose one from the list tomorrow….or I’ll invent one myself 😉
You smell great!
Another kind of Forgotten Friend for me. I need to find my bottle now. You smell wonderful!
Continuing with my Chanel theme
Thanks to a generous NSTer I am in vintage Coco parfum and Coco EDP. The EdT has seem to evaporated or else I would of sprayed that too…
Lippy is Chanel Etienne (that someone on NST recommended for a red lippy) I am sporting a totally nude face with this dash of color..gorgeous
Tea is rooibos
I read about Etienne here because I ordered it also! You smell wonderful love Vintage Coco.
one lucky NSTer should get an enabler pin!
♥️ Coco, i’m taking note of Etienne Chanel lip color – looks beautiful online!
Its a beautiful color..nice and moisturizing too. I prefer the this line to the Chanel coco shine lipsticks..something in them dried out my lips.
I finished my “top tomato” lippy recently! Waiting for a revlon sale…
Continuing 5-star/ 1-star week in the 5-star Osmanthe Yunnan. I smelled wonderful for about 2 hours. This is the only Hermessence I have tried that does not last at least 8 hours on me.
Thinking of everyone in Santa Barbara. Man, California has had it rough lately.
Osmanthe Yunnan lasted for less than 20 minutes on me 🙁 , so I think you were lucky to get two hours. It is really pretty, though.
SO pretty but definitely one of those where you keep cramming your nose to your wrist trying to get one last whiff
None of the hermes last one me…
My heart breaks for California!
Same here. Not lucky at all with the longevity of any of the Hermes.
I love Osmanthe Yunnan, but have the same challenge with its longevity, which is a pity. I wish that Hermes would consider adding matching body cremes to the Hermessence line, as Jo Malone did, as I think that the combination could really amp up the longevity of those lovely edts. Iris Ukiyoe is the other one from the Hermessence line that is sadly very fleeting on my skin.
Still doing Dealer’s Choice all week and my theme is Simplicity (five ingredients or fewer), so today pre-shower I wore 4711 eau de cologne (it probably has like twenty ingredients but it smells like bright citrus and herbs and nothing more), and then for the day I put on a couple of serious spritzes of vintagesque Samsara (practically nothing except bergamot, jasmine, and sandalwood, but so perfectly judged and balanced).
you smell like bliss!
I need to wear that one more often
SOTD Bruno Fazzolarri Ummagumma.
Great choice. I hope you like it. Reviews seem to be split but i’m A fan boy. Smelling great!
I do like it! It’s changes throughout the wearing.
A big fan here! You smell fab!
Thanks! I am a fan too.
Can’t wait for my sample to arrive!
I’m starting the Friday project today, with a project from 7-18-14 Sample grab bag. I pulled several untried samples out of their box and put them in a bag and pulled from them. Today I’m wearing Memo Marfa, which is way too sweet for me. I’m not sure if it’s the tuberose, or the vanilla or both.
That Marfa sounds good, I like sweet vanilla and tuberose.
I think I remember thinking that smelled like fruit loops.
Before my shower, I am doing a side by side comparison of LPRN edp vs Black Perfecto. After my shower, it will be MFK Oud Satin Mood.
ooo..let us know your thoughts! I have been wanting to do a side by side
Ooooh, do tell the results of your testing please!
Okay, so here is the verdict: Black Perfecto is more potent, and it has a leather note that I think contributes a lot to the oomph. The edp didn’t last as long and had less distinctive character. For me the winner is Black Perfecto. I bought a big bottle of the edp dirt cheap on Notino last year, not sure if I want to splurge on the BP or just wait until/if it makes it to the discounters. I wonder why it still hasn’t launched in the US?
Duty free when you go back to Canada
I am wearing Tauer L’Eau and drinking a cup of Laduree Josephine tea.
You smell great! Tauer L’Eau works better for me in Fall and Winter. I am enjoying now more than in warmer temps.
Thanks!
Another scent I like to wear in cooler temperatures is Guerlain Herba Fresca. I bought it last winter, and wore it a lot. I tried it in the summer, and the heat brought out some notes I didn’t care for.
Will have to give that a try. I usually reserve that for beach days. Though it still smells good to me in the heat.
That is very interesting! I need to get my bottle of Herba Fresca then and spray on some. Never thought about it!
My sweet MIL took me out for a birthday breakfast, so the day has started out nicely. I am wearing a half-spritz of MFK Lumiere Noire pf, but it’s starting to get faint. Now I have a choice: reapply? Or move on to another favorite — maybe L’Arte di Gucci? or it’s warm enough for Le Temps d’une Fete.
I bought myself a vintage 1990 bottle of Parfum d’Hermes off ebay (I blame Kafkaesque), but it is definitely not the powerhouse thingy she says it was, and I don’t love it. I put on four spritzes of the thing the other evening, and when The CEO walked in he was all “MMM something smells good in here, you smell good, you smell REALLY good,” but I could barely smell it. I don’t know why. Maybe my nose is busted.
Happy Birthday, birthday twin! I hope the rest of your day is wonderful!
Back atcha, birthday twin!
Happy Birthday!
I felt that way when I wore no 19 poudre yesterday..I don’t smell it but people around me do.
And Happy Birthday! you are a birthday twin with another NSTer
I think an earlier me would have said that was the best kind of perfume, but current me thinks it’s the worst! I want something I can smell super strongly at all times that no one else detects.
Ditto!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope your day is epicly awesome!!! 🙂
Happy Birthday! How frustrating to smell so good and not know it! Grr.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Mals!
Happy happy birthday!
Yesterday I wore Armani Prive Ambre Soie, and kept thinking that I couldn’t smell it, even when I huffed my wrist. And then I’d catch a whiff…. from where? Who knows?
Happy birthday! Enjoy your day!
Happy Birthday mals86!
That’s frustrating about the sent – but it is very interesting. It must Our noses that do this – maybe try it when somethings different – like the weather – or your sinuses – etc. and see if you notice anything different – I will be interested to hear if you report back!
Happy birthday mals, hope u have a wonderful day!
Have a truly happy day! You’re DH is right, you smell fabulous.
(Kafkaesque almost got me lemming after vintage 24 Faubourg, so far I have resisted.)
Happy birthday Mals and Madtowngirl!
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday, Mals!
Happy Scented Birthday, Mals! I hope that you were able to wear something that you loved for the occasion.
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday, mals! ❣
Adding more birthday wishes!
I’m revisiting the match a character to a scent challenge. Lately I have been reading and loving the Cas Russell books by SL Huang (the first is called Zero Sum Game). The main character is a tough loner with a math superpower, so she can for example dodge bullets by quickly calculating the angle based on the sound. She solves hardboiled mysteries with slight supernatural twists – think Kinsey Millhone meets Dark Angel, plus math.
Obviously, I am wearing Knowing.
Obviously! Thanks for the laugh Regina… that struck me as hilarious : )
Haha! Same here.
Excellent!
Continuing my sampling week, Byredo Velvet Haze today.
When I first tried it in late summer it felt a bit cloying, but it is quite plush and lovely in cold weather.
Velvet Haze is soooooo cozy! And I agree…I got my sample back in the fall and felt overwhelmed. But now in winter it’s awesome!
That has been my experiencing too, exactly.
I might have to retry this now that we are in deeper winter. My initial reaction was ????
Wearing the last of my Kyoto sample as I head out for a birthday massage. Tonight will be wood fired pizza out with the fam.
My gift to myself (in case anyone was wondering, lol) is my first bottle of Le Labo. I asked the kind folks at luckyscent if it could be bottled today so it would have the date on the label. This is what some might call a “milestone” birthday. I’m not saying numbers, but it rhymes with nifty.????
And you may ask yourself, well
How did I get here?
That is a wonderful way to mark a milestone! Which Le Labo did you get?
Thank you! Bergamote 22, one of my all time favorites.
Cheers! Curious to which one your picked?
Enjoy your birthday and your purchase
Cheers indeed! Thank you!
Welcome to the nifty + club!
Which Le Labo?
He he, thank you! Bergamote 22.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Le Labo will be a beautiful gift for yourself…..Congrats!
I’m pushing 50 and don’t feel like I’m 30 yet (mentally, anyway)…..50 is GREAT! 🙂
Thanks Jada! I don’t feel my age either. Age is just a number, right?!
ABSOLUTELY!!!! There are 30 yr olds that look way older than they are, and 50 yr olds that look way younger.
I think a good bit of that is attitude, and making a conscious choice to stay young by staying engaged in things! (Good skincare and a bit of sleep never hurt either….) 🙂
Nifty is the new flirty! Same as it ever was.. Happy Birthday madtowngirl ????
Your plans sound excellent and enjoy your Bergamote! I’m a fan, too.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Nifty Birthday!
You’re still young! Happy Birthday and enjoy your new bottle!
Happy birthday! Your day sounds amazing and you smell gorgeous in Kyoto!
Happy birthday madtowngirl!
I love how you have commemorated your birthday, enjoy!!
Happy birthday!
OH MY we are the same age too!
Excellent purchase.
Hurray! and congratulations to fabulous and nifty madtowngirl, hope your day is wonderful. I LOVE your cleverly dated-perfume bottle to commemorate the day. Le Labo knows how to do bergamot right!
Happy birthday for a significant number! I’m a few years past 50 and it all seems pretty good so far, although I’ve never really got my brain around not still being 25 – time has rather got away on me!
I just turned 50 in November. It is quite something, but although mentally I mostly feel about 12, my body is sending very distinct messages that I’m not. (And as a doctor I know, unfortunately, that age is more than a number.) Still Joanna Lumley is 70 and still seems to have a great time. Watched her and Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Champers, about their visit to the Champagne region. Great fun!
Oh, and I completely forgot to wish you a great day today! And may you have many great years ahead of you, with lots of good fragrances!
Gosh, is she 70? That’s shocking.
Happy Birthday! I will join that club in August!
Happy Happy Birthday! I hope it is wonderful! Enjoy your new bottle!
Happy Scented Birthday, and with a commemorative bottle no less! Awesome!
Happy 50th! 🙂
Happy Nifty Birthday and what a special bottle you have!
Letting the days go by!
I think this was a project: wear a flanker you like more than the pillar. SOTD Opium Fleur de Shanghai. It’s quite delicious! Spicy, ambery warmth and more wearable than its mother, imo.
Ooh, that’s a fun project! Mine would be Youth Dew – I find the original a little more than I can handle, but Amber Nude is more my speed.
I should try that one one of these days. I appreciate classics but have found that I enjoy some of the updates more.
Yes, I remember that project!
Came out to the coast again, but today is a scrubber: halacious winds that are making the van dance all around, torrential rains and a bit of hail. Yesterday was gorgeous though! Did a couple of short hikes, one to a giant sitka spruce that’s estimated to be over 500 years old. Zelda works well in the woods, especially after working up a bit of a sweat. Heard some coyotes yipping and howling the other night, which made poor T-Rex shiver and dive under the covers. Still wafting Zelda and The big plan for today is rolling over and going back to sleep????????
When I hear coyotes, I shiver like your dog; those guys are so scary to me!
I was thrilled to hear them! Earlier in the evening I couldn’t convince the dog to go outside for her usual before bed potty time. Quite sure she already caught wind of them and that’s probably why she didn’t want to go out. I’m parked on the border of the Siuslaw National Forest, so there are many in this area.
I guess the context changes the perception of those sounds (hearing them in my yard, I just think of all the cats around, but being on the border of a national forest must be very different!)
Your trip sounds so marvelous, Deva!
I feel for T-Rex. I remember the night I spent in the Kruger Park in South Africa and heard hyenas howling for the first time, seemingly right outside the door of our hut. I was freaked out.
Good morning Y’all….
Trudging forward on a cold rainy Thursday….which is the PERFECT way to find out that my shoe has a crack in the sole! 🙂
Wearing Adam Levine for Women, and enjoying it immensely! Very nice sandalwood/floral for the price point. (Of course it’s not real sandalwood, but I didn’t shell out a lot of real moolah either….)
I watched your recent video and was happy to learn that I am not the only one who has just “discovered” Chamade.
Ditto! Do you follow Persolaise? He reviewed Chamade in one of his videos with perfume recommendations for Mother’s Day. He said in the dry down Chamade gives you the impression that you want to protect the wearer, and that “we all went to protect our Mum”.
I will find Persolaise and start following ASAP! That’s an awesome way to describe a scent….
Found him on Instagram….stalking him now… LOL
Aww! So sweet. I don’t follow but will have to look that video up one day
I kinda like the Adam Levine, too. Mine was 6 or 7 bucks at TJ Maxx- at that price it’s awesome!
I love Adam Levine. The man and the fragrance ha!
Crazy and stressful week. My company did layoffs on Tuesday. I kind of knew they were coming but not exactly when. The product my team was working on has been tabled and disbanded. I will be moved to a new role and will have a new manager. ???? le sigh indeed, fragrant folks.
I am trying Arielle Shoshana today compliments of a generous NSTer and it is lovely. I saw people rave about it but typically fruit isn’t that interesting to me. But this is sophisticated fruit! ????
I am happy grateful I wasn’t laid off…which would have been twice in 2 years for those playing along at home. ????
UGH. That is a stress that’s always in the back of your mind, I’m sure.
I used to hear rumors that my hospital (psychiatric) was going to close, as the goal was to move everyone into group homes and community based services. But now the system is breaking ground on new building to house MORE people, so I think I’m good for a few years…..Still, UGH!
Whew…good news for you!
Change keeps you young. And you smell great!
Congratulations on dodging that bullet She-ra! Still so stressful… Thank goodness there is perfume to keep us grounded.
I just love our Arielle Shoshana. it makes me smile even when I just smell the sprayer, and I am not a fruity perfume lover – maybe because there are so many low quality fruity perfumes? At this time, I’m thinking I’m not even “into” certain notes – I’m just into the perfume I like.
Good news, changes at work seem to be everywhere and continuous.
Hate you have to be moved to a different group but glad you are still employed!
So glad you were spared, but that’s no fun!
Oy! Glad you came through OK. Years back I had to deliver the news to someone on my team when he was in town for a conference (back then, this news had to be delivered in person and he worked in Rochester and there was no reason for me to go to Rochester).
Mugler’s Oriental Express today – persistently 1/4 of a step less cozy than I’d like, but I keep trying it to be sure. It’s very iris-ey on me with the vanilla a dim, dim second.
I think that’s what I love about it – very irisy and not too sweet, but definitely soft, not austere.
If it’s only 1/4 step and you otherwise like it and otherwise don’t have that “slot” filled, you could always layer?
That’s a great idea. I certainly have a wide collection of ambers I could experiment with to cozy it up.
In Pixel’s mother’s cast-off perfume, Knowing. Woke up in the mood for it. It was the scent I wore one summer when I worked in Belfast for a civil liberties group many many moons ago. Reminds me of that interesting and happy time.
Actually it was my friend’s aunt’s cast-off, my mother wouldn’t be caught dead wearing perfume…. 🙂
I love it! How weird is that!!
LOL!
Hi twin!
That whole thing, Pixel’s friend’s aunt’s cast-off + Belfast for a civil liberties group many many moons ago, is just a great intro for a SOTD.
Sticking with the 2016 Woodfest project again today, and wearing L’Artisan’s 60 Mirabilis from the Natura Fabularis line. I find it mostly a woody musk with a slight incense vibe (I could swear I pick up palo santo in it).
I did get a bit more information about the status of the Natura Fabularis line from Andrea at Luckyscent. They have disappeared off the L’A website, and are not being restocked at retailers once they sell out, while the bottles are being tweaked. It’s not entirely clear if the bottles will transition over to the traditional L’A octagonal bottle design, or if they will stay in the cylindrical black bottles, but without the bee. It would be great to see the price come down a bit to match the price of the regular line, but that might be wishful thinking. It will be interesting to see if any of the gold bee bottles show up at the discounters (more wishful thinking!); I have to admit that I find them pretty 😀
Yeah those bottles are pretty, but the prices sure aren’t. It would be fun if they showed up at the discounters…. 🙂
I am wearing Bee’s Bliss by SSS for May-bee Friday 5/2017. Wear a perfume with a honey note. This scent puts a smile on my face. Laurie Erickson said that she wanted to create a joyful perfume and I think that she succeeded.
I so want to order a sample of this from Laurie, because I love honey scents (and her perfumes in general), but am fearful of the mimosa note, as it never fails to be horrid to me. Do you find the mimosa prominent/heavy in Bee’s Bliss?
I’m not a huge fan of mimosa either. I don’t find it to be a prominent note but my nose isn’t super sensitive due to year round allergies. I would appreciate if someone else would chime in.
Floral, sweet, but not over-the -top sweet, waxy, pollen, honey. Not tropical or animolic. It’s just really pretty. I bought the 5 ml travel but think I need an FB.
I wouldn’t have necessarily guessed mimosa, myself. Mostly I smell orange blossom or neroli, flower-wise.
Tbanks E! I get OB ax well.
I’m wearing my favourite Orange blossom, and my favourite By Kilian: Sweet Redemption. It’s so very, very lovely.
Oh, that IS a good one.
Wearing Dame Desert Rose from a thoughtful NST’er and smelling pretty.
Smelling pretty indeed! Desert Rose deserves more love. 🙂
I woke up this morning with the song ‘Blue Velvet” in my head. So I tried to match a perfume to Isabella Rossellini character in the movie Blue Velvet. I came up with Superstitious. A little glamorous, a little crazy. I think this is one of my new favorite perfumes , that I’ve sampled in a long time. I was reading some reviews on Fragrantica, and realized I don’t really smell it the way others seem to. I think I tend to smell perfume as a feeling first, and then, eventually the notes.
What a good description.
Thanks! I wish I was better at describing perfume.
Today, it’s spring like weather in Cleveland and I am in Jicky today. I’m so excited, I ordered a bottle of Tauer’s Vanilla Flash today from Luckyscent. It turns out that I had a little more money than I thought when I did my budget. I can’t believe that it was a little less than a year ago that I had bought L’Heure de Nuit and bought nothing but some decants in that year.
Congrats! I love Vanilla Flash. And you get an enabler pin for getting me hooked on L’Heure de Nuit. I can’t wear L’Heure Bleue so I pretty much dismissed L’Heure de Nuit, until someone gave me a decant of it and I fell in love. Thank you for piquing my interest in it!
Lazy Theme continuing here. SOTD is Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee. Wake me up before you go go!
Nice fit!
Repeating a theme from all the way back.
‘Wear a fragrance you last bought’ which we had in 2014.
I’m in Grandiflora Queen of the Night. Bought it last week.
Congratulations–I know you’ve been lemming that one for awhile, and it’s such a beauty!
Yeah, it’s been haunting me since September
Congratulations, it is beautiful – you smell great!
Thanks 🙂
Yay for new bottles!
Yay indeed 🙂
Congratulations, enjoy!
I’m having perfume malaise. Weather is gray and rainy and I am grumpy. I don’t want anything I have. I don’t want fruit or sweet or floral or amber. Boo Hoo Poor Me. Not like me as I usually try to stay positive. I’m bummed out that I’ve now finished my week of bingeing in Man in the High Castle on Amazon video. Every night it provided such an adrenaline rush! Well I guess this too shall pass. Maybe I can find a nice non-sweet incense or something. Just dug out my bottle of Jaisalmer from the cabinet but the sprayer is stuck–that’s the 2nd one of those CDG cans that has happened to. I won’t buy them any more.
Hope the day surprises you in a positive way, Calypso! Maybe some good music and a citrus scent would help?
Sending you some positive vibes and uplifting thoughts.
Make things easy on yourself when you can. I wore untested samples this week so I didn’t have to think much about what to wear. Last week I did a few random grabs out of the sample pile.
Hope some sunshine comes your way soon.
Sending you sunny vibes!
Sorry about your Jaisalmer, and hope the day got better!
Hello, everyone. Tired, hot and late. I overslept! Me! It was fully six o’clock before I cracked an eyelid, and the kittens were protesting outside our bedroom door, holding little banners saying, “Waterdragon cruelty to kittens!” and other slogans. Eric led the march. Titus raced around getting in everyone’s way. Alexander looked wise and thin. I swear that kitten can suck his tummy in so that his stripes merge. I should learn his trick.
Still not in the project, except by hazy memory. SOTD is the beautiful, mis-named (or at least, mis-marketed) Fate, all golden and gorgeous, not dark and portentous. I think there was a project once for perfumes with misleading names, but if not, no matter. I smell of light and sun and new things, and that is good today. Must dash madly about now and accomplish STUFF. Be well, all.
Yes, we did at least one version of that project and maybe 2! Light and sun and new things — I need that perfume, stat.
Wearing SJP Covet, from fugly bottle week 🙂
So easy to wear, I love it – I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t smell chocolate specifically. I don’t get chocolate from eau de Charlotte either.
Wish my nose were more developed – would love to take a class with Bois de Jasmin one day, but the one in burgundy this April won’t work for me.
I had a bottle of EdC. I did like it but it reminded me of cold cream. I didn’t get chocolate either.
Yes, interesting – to me a kind of smells like a high-end children’s bath product
I don’t get identifiable chocolate from Covet either. But it’s one of my favorites, one of the few perfumes my husband has ever remarked on which is amazing since I wear something every day. He likes it too.
Wearing CdG Vogue, and enjoying it way more than expected. On me, it is a very wearable lily of the valley but not too boring; I can definitely detect, but wish there was a bit more of the edgy/CdG effect there (film, ink, leather?). That would have been tempting; but, at least, I will finish the sample of this one, which is already a lot.
Thanks — was really wondering about that one!
I’m wearing Kenzo Flower, a forgotton favourite from I cant remember which project. It reminds me of my favourite expensive chocolates, rose and violet creams.. yummy.
You smell amazing Mayfly!
I’m wearing Frapin Speakeasy today, from a decant. I didn’t have time to look anything up this morning, but I seem to remember we had a booze theme one week.
Yep, we did!
Can’t remember the dates for Uncle Serge week, but re-celebrating in Fille en Aiguilles. I love pine and I love Uncle S, but this one doesn’t quite work for me. A very sweet fruity note tends to dominate and smell almost bubble-gummy. Still my favorite house though . . .
Was just thinking we needed to do another Uncle Serge week.
SotD = Vetiver 46
Fragrance is absolutely for everyone and anyone who wants to wear it, but this scent really says “men’s aftershave” to me. Le Labo certainly knows how to do a beautiful bergamot top note.
Last August we had a vetiver Friday community project. I remember wearing Onda EdP from a sample. I liked that one better than Vetiver 46, which I think may be giving me a headache. Oh, well, more for someone else. 🙂
Vetiver 46 just smells like incense on me. Funny how that works.
Dear friends, the theme I’ve reprised today is not a fragrant one: it is that of forgetting to bring clothes to wear post-workout. I have an excuse this time! The fire alarm went off as I was getting ready to head out, so I forgot my Apple Watch (which has become important to me because if I don’t record my workouts, did they even happen?) and, more vitally, ALL MY CLOTHES. I was wearing gym clothes, because I’ve started doing some weight training before going on my usual swim, and so, after my post-swim shower, I had to put on my sweaty gym clothes again 🙁
So my SOTD is kind of a jumble: sweat from my gym clothes, gardenia from my body oil (side note: I received this oil as a present, and it’s a very sparkly, very gardenia-y oil in a l’Occitane bottle, but I can find no record of a shimmering l’Occitane gardenia oil, and there are no stickers on the bottle–so where is this even from?!?!), and Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche, which is much prettier by itself than layered over all these other scents/stenches. Sigh.
I really needed a laugh today, so thank you! (Totally laughing with you)
Glad to have provided a needed laugh 🙂 This is much less traumatic than the time I didn’t have any kind of shirt, anyway. I think wearing gym clothes to work is less frowned upon than walking about shirtless!
Oh, dear! Sounds like you have a pretty informal workplace, though. I could never get way with that, but I never have to worry about it since the likelihood of me going to the gym before work is zero. So kudos to you! The mystety oil sounds pretty.
Oh yeah, no one cares what I wear (well, except no high heels, because they might damage equipment/get caught in the grated floors of the lab; close-toed shoes for safety; etc). I had a meeting with my boss this morning and he could not have cared less about my outfit.
The oil does smell nice! I just wish I could find proof that it exists outside of my bag.
I am laughing with you also. And agreed on the Apple watch recording the workouts ha!
It’s amazing how quickly an item that I derided as a stupid and useless piece of technology has become an essential part of my day!
LOL, you crack me up! Glad you at least had something to wear on top this time. I use a Garmin bike computer and upload my bike rides to Strava. As they say in cycling, if it isn’t on Strava it didn’t happen!
LOL, you poor thing. You need to keep a change of clothes in your car
Wearing Bois d’Armenie, and that seems to fit a number of projects from 2017 alone – I’m taking the approach of chosing the perfume, then seeing what might apply 🙂
It’s a lemming I read about here, it’s French, and it’s a variation on the fugly bottle. It looks nice, but the bulb makes it almost impossible to the perfume on to one’s skin!
I’ve considered taking that approach as well, especially as I just got my first-ever decant of Vol de Nuit and really want to wear it. Luckily there was a project a little while back that was to wear the most recent perfume you bought!
Une Fleur de Cassie today just because I love it and needed a bit of comfort today. I’m writing my annual performance self-appraisal, which is not my favorite thing to do. I’m sure many of you will agree!
I’ve never had to do that but it sounds awful. Cassie is great for a confidence boost, and I always feel more intelligent when I wear it. On top of that it just smells plain beautiful.
Oh how I loathe those self-appraisals. Read somewhere that they may be on the way out–hope so.
Cassie is a good choice to balance out the onerous task.
Hope Cassie helps. It is a wonderful perfume!
Self-appraisal twins today!
Layering Commodity again but super bored with it. Will probably do something else for tomorrow. But for today I am in two sprays of Moss and two of Tea. I really like both of those. But again, 4 sprays and I could barely smell it two hours later.
Woke up with a RAGING headache. Can’t shake it. Really wish I could since we close on the house tomorrow, thus will be moving this weekend. I’d really like to start packing.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you!
Yikes, feel better KellyC!
Thank you, it is better this evening! I’m managing to be productive and pack up. 🙂
Hello all! I’m finally back in the swing of things after the holidays. ????
I’m doing the sample grab bag project from 2014, wearing Arbole Arbole. Wow. This is really lush with being sweet. Quite a head turner. Would probably be too big for summer, but nice on this rainy, cool day.
You smell fantastic. I love Arbole Arbole in cold temperatures. It really shines!
Sample of Clive Christian 1872 Woman. Pleasant enough but for me not worth the big bucks.
I’ve only retried two Clive Christian but neither seemed worth it to me…
*tried
Still doing Forgotten Friends. Today was Parure. It had been a long time since I wore this, but I still love it just as much. It is not so much that I had forgotten it, but that I am trying to make it last, since I can’t buy it any more.
Oh, I loved Parure! Enjoy it for me, I miss it too.
SOTD = Chanel Allure Pour Homme Edition Blanche EDP
Not the original but no harm done with this one. Leans masculine but equally wearable by all genders, office friendly, appropriate year round! Citrus, vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla – very well done!
Commuting Woes No. 403:
Everyone who has ever commuted knows to check the seat before sitting down to avoid being contaminated by unknown substances. Today, I was first to get inside a train car and the first attractive seat actually had what looked like a dime-sized splat of something so I sat down on the next seat. I must have hesitated 2 seconds too long and the person behind me rolled her eyeballs and plopped herself (she was round-shaped which is my nice way of describing her) down on the first seat. If I was feeling combative, i would have told her that instead of rolling her eyeballs at me, she should have checked the seat because she just sat on (bird poop, barbecue sauce, someone’s snot, etc).
LOL, that was a howler. She got what she deserved. 🙂
I just love your stories! Thanks for the laugh.
