Monday scent of the day 11/27

Posted by Robin on 27 November 2017 199 Comments

It's Monday. Prince Harry is getting married. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Lovers Music, by perfumer Honorine Blanc, sort of (my solid perfume is rather old, and not as fragrant as it once was.)

Reminder: on 12/1, wear something by Annie Buzantian, Honorine Blanc or Daphné Bugey.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Monday Monday

Drinking chai made fresh by my father in law, all alone, and listening to the sultry sexy voice of Diana Krall

Congrats to Prince Harry, I hope everyone in the UK gets the day off the day of their wedding

Putting a my gift card that I got in the beginning of the year to the Guerlain spa to use this week and they have a discount for cyber Monday. Let me know if there is anything I must sniff while I am there.

Based on your experience with Cristalle, I need to try now that it is colder. I hope it works for me. I always wear it in summer time.

How old is your bottle? Have you (or anyone who’s reading this) tried Cristalle recently? My sample is of about 7 y.o., and I was wondering how much this perfume has been reformulated in the recent years. I’ll get to the counter to try it myself eventually but was wondering if anyone knows now.

        That is a good question!
I only like the EdT of Cristalle and my decant is from a generous NSTer
I tried the EdT last winter at a department store and I still loved it.
Maybe someone else can chime in with their opinion

To my nose, there is less oakmoss than the original. It’s a little flat and doesn’t have nearly the staying power.
A very close dupe to the original EDT would be Patou’s Eau de Patou. It’s very much in the same vein.

Happy Cyber Monday everyone! Another day to hide the credit cards? I am not planning to use them, no matter how good the offers are.

Smelling good in Chanel Coromandel EdT. I had not worn it in a long time and I had almost forgotten how beautiful it is. It is giving me the strengh to stay awake because I am really sleepy and I have to face a busy day. Coffee also to the rescue…

Congrats to Harry and Meghan! Nice to hear some happy news. I have heard 2017 described as the year love died, with so many notable breakups.

Wow, I must have been focusing on other areas of the news — can’t think of a single notable breakup! Then again, I don’t really much care, and no offense to Harry but I also don’t really much care if he gets married or not 🙂

OK, so usually not my area of expertise, but I did fall down the celebrity break-up rabbit hole over the weekend. I was watching the new Beauty and the Beast with my kids – and Lumiere was such a charming character I wanted to know who he was – Ewan McGreggor, 46 – my search seemed to coincide with news of the breakup of his 22 year marriage, and new romance with his 32 year old tv co-star. sad 🙁

Wearing Lubin’ s Korrigan from a decant gifted to me by a friend.
Enjoying scent today as I have a biopsy first thing in the AM , so I will be scent free until that has been completed.
If I can’t get liquid courage through alcohol, I will get it through perfume. Alcohol and counting rarely mix, so I’ll just pack something yummy to spray on after.

Oh man, I’m kinda stumped for Friday. I might have a couple of Daphne Bugey things in my samples somewhere (Le Labo Lys 41, if there’s any left, and maybe a tiny scrab of Kenzo Amour, if there’s any left of *that*), but otherwise, PFFFT. Nothin’.

I am currently attempting to crochet myself fingerless gloves of some really gorgeous sock wool. (Etsy shop Black Sheep Dyeworks, Deep Sea Tonal merino. Not affiliated, just an impressed customer.)

Testing Piguet Knightsbridge today. My wallet is hoping that it fizzles out or goes all personal-nemesis Youth Dew, because so far it’s really lovely. hannahmom, I should blame you, right?

Un Jardin Apres la Mousson today. I won it on eBay for a song a few weeks ago. This is one of the few Hermes that I don’t see at counters anymore and it makes me sad. I love the gingery bite!

Had to slip on my handknit socks last night, but the days still aren’t very cold. Off to class in a minute.

ACK! It’s Monday! Happy days, I’m off after a very busy holiday working 4/5 days!

SOTD is Bee’s Bliss. Oh my! I’m still kind of exploring this on day 3 of wear but I am flummoxed (in a good way) and surprised by my reaction. Longevity is astounding on me. More to follow…!

Off for coffee and bagel to complete my wake up, then a nice long walk with play time for T-Rex at “Minto/Dog Island” along the Willamette River (the water is very high!) We continue to work on her overly exuberant greetings and unpleasant reactions when a dog she has joyfully greets snubs her. She doesn’t handle rejection gracefully. Nuff said????

    Smell Well!

Wearing Ostara and reading a good book called Outsiders…it’s a combined biography of five women writers who lived lives beyond the security offered by their reasonably well-off backgrounds . So, they lived true lives I guess rather than false ones…also just re-read The House of Mirth. Anyway…tried the two new Obsessed perfumes at the local shop. They’re okay I guess but not particularly interesting. I was looking for the new Bottega Veneta Velours but it’s not coming down here…in fact perfume is cancelled in general down here.
I had a irritating experience yesterday while out walking on the hill. I was just looking at the view, listening to birds when there was a loud metallic buzzing ( like a mosquito but much much louder) and it was a drone, straight above me. It then followed me for the remainder of my walk…the last ten minutes…buzzing away loudly . It really annoyed me. Ugh…people.

    Sotd: Addict, the original version!
Had a chance to smell Lush’s Gorilla line on Saturday. I enjoyed Rentless but it wasn’t love. Was really excited to finally try Rose Jam and Cardamom Coffee. IMO, RJ was sour and green. CC was bitter and unpleasant. I was really disappointed, tbh. But they do seem true to the esthetics of the Gorilla line. And they are not inexpensive. Oh well, money saved.

Hello, everyone. Yesterday was good fun; today will be less so. I have received a totally annoying, patronising and vaguely insulting email from a colleague who is old enough to know better. He will be astounded that I have the nerve to fight back, but I’m going to speak to him about it. I don’t expect the encounter to be pretty, so I’m wearing a black shift frock scattered with BRIGHT parrots doing mad upside down things, and La Pausa. The dress provides a certain insouciance: La Pausa gives some much-needed prettiness. People! Honestly! Cats are easier, except for Eric, who is refusing, absolutely REFUSING, to eat rabbit. In fact, at the moment, if it doesn’t come from beef, he won’t contemplate it as food. I adore that kitten, but he has a stubborn streak that is hard to defeat. I feel a bit silly, trying to reason with a little creature who stands about eight inches to the shoulder and a vocabulary of about six words, if you include “water pistol” in the tally.

No matter about the colleague. This is just a day, and it will pass. Be well, all.

I’m off this week so happy to wear some non work-friendly perfumes. Testing out SSS Fireside Intense and Cire Trudon Revolution, both smokey perfumes. The SSS is all campfire and leather to me while the CT is soft in comparison. There’s smoke but also some fresh, green wood element that gives it a bit of freshness. The green wood facet here reminds me a bit of CdG Jaisalmer. I like both of these perfumes a lot.

I’m also coming to a conclusion: Perhaps I can alter my no-buy to be a buy-only-indie-scents. I mean, those are practically donations, right? The money isn’t going to some invisible conglomerate; it’s going to support a hardworking individual! Right? I’ve been eyeing l’Aromatica Kulfi and Mirus Silver Lining and Tauer and SSS everything. It’s from Mirus! It’s by Neal Peters, who’s a local (Bay Area) perfumer, and therefore totally reasonable for me to support 🙂 it smells of jasmine and wet earth. You might be having trouble finding things out about it because it was very recently released.

I bought a whole lot of stuff this weekend, none of it fragrance-related. I needed a new pocketbook, two cashmere sweaters, an electric pressure cooker, Clinique moisturizer, and some DVDs, plus I picked up three Kindle Fire tablets for the Christmas collection for underprivileged kids. It’s a good thing Donatella doesn’t care about such things.

Ugh Monday! Didn’t sleep well and woke up with a headache, so I am wearing Carnal Flower to try and inject some happiness.

Other than my Fils de Dieu 30ml bottle purchase early last week, I’ve been pretty good on purchases. I did take advantage of Notino’s sale and picked up a Nuxe shower gel, Amouage samples, and a bunch of other perfume samples. At Beautyhabit I snagged a bunch of bar soaps that I didn’t need, a lip scrub, and a mini shampoo. Let’s see if I make it through the day without buying anything else…

I prefer the edt myself- from my recollection, the edp is deeper green and maybe creamier? More like how Heure Exquise smells to me. I think the edt is lighter all around and more refreshing. I think if you already adore the edp, I say go for it!

KellyC, I have the EdT, EdP and Poudre. The EdT for me is greener and shaper, the EdP is more floral and creamier. I love both, but I prefer the EdT. For some reason the iris on the EdT is more prominent and being an iris lover that is a plus for me. If you already love the EdP go for it and later on get a sample of the EdT to compare. I am sure that you would like any concentration. No. 19 is a real beauty

I have all the possible versions (EdT, EdP, extrait and Poudre), and I also prefer the EdT but since you like the EdP, you might not change your mind – even if you try it. I mean, I can’t imagine the situation that you won’t like any of the other No 19 (Poudre doesn’t count) but you might still prefer the EdP. So unless you have a quick access to the perfume counter where you can try it, don’t wait – get the EdP, and ask for the EdP for the next holiday 🙂

So even though you know my preference for the EDP, I agree with Undina that you are unlikely to dislike any of the formulations. I actually find the EDT more flowery / orange blossomy than the EDP. The Poudre is more powdery. The Extrait I am holding off on wearing, for now.

Was commando but will be doing Kelly Caleche later. Leather sounds necessary today.

Sweaty palms at the dentist. We are hoping it was just that the bite was off from last month’s filling, which has aggravated the area and nerve. So, the dentist did some filing to try and correct that. And…I might have returned to old habits of nighttime grinding, so will be back to using the mouth guard again. I’ll keep popping Advil, be careful and see if everything calms down. Fingers crossed!

I think I’ll start making a habit of bedtime scent also. I’ve never really done that, but maybe it will also help… can’t hurt, right?

Ugh, your dentist visit sounded kind of unpleasant. I hope things will sort themselves out quickly for you.

Posting a little later than usual today. Back to my sample stash for testing. SOTD = Etro Sandalo. On me, it is rather soapy. So, on to the next untried scent!

You made me realize I don’t even remember Sandalo, although I know I’ve tried it.

I had all of last week off, but this morning, a thought popped into my head that it felt like I only had one day off. It was a good week, though, just wished I had a few more days.

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

    Just because …

I have several perfumes for the project but may skip, just because…

It’s going to be a crazy ride up through and past year end and into April. I have 2 major projects implementing on April 1st – ugh. I am still taking off from the 22nd through the 3rd!
