Friday scent of the day 11/24

Posted by Robin on 24 November 2017 321 Comments

Happy Black Friday / Buy Nothing Day! Our community project for today is Hide My Credit Card...wear a fragrance (presumably from a sample) that you're itching to buy but don't own yet. Thanks to Lovestosmellgood for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Parfums DelRae Wit. I've been waiting patiently for 3 years for the brand to come out with a travel size. I have a feeling my credit card is quite safe.

Reminder: on 12/1, wear something by Annie Buzantian, Honorine Blanc or Daphné Bugey

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Chergui, from a decant. I won’t be buying a bottle today but I do think one is in my future while the discounters still have the old design available.
Yesterday was my holiday to work, so today we will eat turkey. We are having unseasonably mild weather here, it is supposed to be 60 and sunny today, which will make it easier to #optoutside and take a post turkey family walk along the lake.

In the spirit of Black Friday, if anyone has been wanting to sample the Vilhelm line, shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the yahooland and I will be happy to send you 8 of the 10 samples I got from Ari’s shop. I’m hanging onto my two favorites.????

Smelling good, madtowngirl! I finished my Chergui a while ago! Which two are your favorites from the Vilhelm line? I haven’t tried them but I love the name “Morning Chess” which I believe is one of their fragrances.

Hope you enjoy your turkey today and lake walk :)

Thanks! Yes, Morning Chess is one of their fragrances, but my two favs were Modest Mimosa and Dear Polly( the one I really ordered the whole sample set for).
Chergui is so good isn’t it?!

Morning Chess was my favorite from that line. It’s quite smoky. I thought Dear Polly would be my favorite, but it did not sing on my skin at all.

eeeyup!!! I was averaging 6-8 sprays per wearing (the smaller 5ml juice got dumped into the 10ml sprayer as it wore down) and 2-3 applications throughout the day on days of wearing…I KID YOU NOT when I say I have scent eating skin!!!

Fragrancenet has Chergui for $84.99 but it’s $59.49 with 30% off coupon code.
      I don’t know if it’s the old style/label but here’s the link… ;)

Sacre by Caron, just finished my small decant.
    Hide my credit card
This one and Aimez Moi are 2 Carons I would like to have

Can’t wait to read everyones responses.

Today my hubby and I are getting a sitter and visiting a friend in a rehab facility that got into a citibike accident. So, if you plan on doing any shopping please be safe out there.

    Robin, Wit is beautiful!

PSA BG will do there beauty card event soon..

Parfum Sacre and Aimez-Moi are, so far, the only two Carons I’ve liked enough to buy. Then I found I wasn’t really wearing Aimez-Moi, so it found a new home. . . but Parfum Sacre I wear a lot.

I’ve been wondering what to wear today (because Andy Tauer’s delightful comment of “15% more smiles” caused me to fail the Hide My Credit Card challenge and buy another sample of Carillion pour un Ange, which should last me another 3.5 years), but Parfum Sacre might suit.

You gave me the sample of Parfum Sacre and it fell into the right hands. Today is a win win because I smell fantastic and finished it!

We haven’t come to that “level” where we can let people bike safely, like in other countries, Holland for example. Though my better half does it everyday to and from work and I have no say.

I think it’s great that people bike-good exercise and good for the environment. My reflexes aren’t that fast so I personally don’t feel comfortable.
STC may or may not be having a 20% off storewide sale today and Parfum Sacre is relatively inexpensive. Just sayin’ ????

    TGIF!
SOTD: Vert de Fleur (yes, it’s a sample!)
I like wearing it quite a bit really but the price tag for this fragrance I can’t quite justify. There are quite a few perfumes above it on my wishlist.
But it’s also funny how although we prioritise our choices, quite often we end up buying things from the middle of the list…or is it just me? :P

It’s not just you. Everything at the top of my list, is out of my price range, and even if I save for it, something important always comes along to eat it up. The middle of the list is still pretty good though:)

I felt like that about Vert de Fleur as well – liked it, would buy it if it weren’t so dang spendy, doubt I would bother to save up for it because something else would undoubtedly come along.

I did manage to save my dollars for a bottle of Iris Poudre, though it did take me three years.

I just sampled this and loved it, too! But a whole bottle for that price… I’m more likely to get a 5ml decant and be content. :) Though I have seen bottles of it on ebay/facebook groups for $100 shipped… are there Tom Ford dupes out there? Anyone know?

Happy Black Friday everyone! I am one of the few people who showed up at work today. It is sooo peaceful and quiet here and I am happy about it!

I am wearing Chergui because someone mentioned it yesterday and as usual I am really enjoying it!.

I am not doing any shopping today, but L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne is the main reason for me to hide my credit card today. I am itching badly for it even though I have not sampled it yet. It would be a blind buy, but most of my purchases are blind anyway and based on the notes I am sure I would love it! I need to sit on my hands really hard……

Back to work today but have the week off next week! Will be going to Sacramento at the end of the week for a memorial service for my hub’s uncle who died in September. I only met him a couple of times but he was a sweet guy and would send us jars of his homemade jalapeno jelly for the holidays.
SOTD Guerlain Idylle edp from a decant. I really like this one eventhough it’s not very Guerlain. Good office scent, pretty, crisp yet warm at the same time. May go for a small bottle when I’ve drained my decant.
My credit card got some exercise early this morning ????: I bought a travel spray of Lampblack from the Bruno Fazzolari Black Friday sale. PSA he’s having a 15% off sale til Sunday…

Thanks! I was only in Sacramento once and it was our 8th grade senior trip to the capital. I hardly remember it, though we’re going to see Ladybird later, which is filmed there. We only have 4 days so doubt we’ll see much.

I got to sleep in this morning because our office always closes for TGiving and the day after, so I’m commando at the moment but plan to participate in Puredistance White, from a manufacturer’s sample that came my way somehow or other. That stuff is heavenly – wait a sec while I drag myself out of bed and go spritz … Oh Yes. Ahhhhhhh. AND Mr. G just brought me coffee. More heaven. :)

Yesterday, I tried on every sample I could possibly want a full bottle of. The winners were Cuir Impertinent and Feve Delicious, and surprise runner up Do Son. In the end though, I won’t be getting anything ( although, that new Dame body cream …. Maybe) I finished Christmas shopping for the girl, still have a way to go for the boy. I am working tonight’s Black Friday sale. I have worked every Black Friday for over half my life, but this year I’m a little nervous. The new store I work at has seems to have a lot more confrontational customers then what I’m used to. I’m going to wear Coco, like I do every year. Because Coco makes me feel like a lady, and will keep me poised if someone yells at me, and keep me from yelling back. Lol. Wish me luck!

Incredibly moisturizing…I actually over applied the first time I used it and had a bit of a greasy mess on my head…but , to be honest, I use it as an all over body oil…if you look at the ingredients the oils he uses are really good for your skin. You can always just go with a travel size…shipping is free, no matter what you order.

the 3.0oz is still in stock for $3.60

            https://www.pacificabeauty.com/collections/soy-candles/products/persian-rose-soy-candle?variant=44087979332

The 5.5oz candles are really $9.60…don’t know why they are showing as $3.60 as that is the price for the smaller candles only….

I’m kind of participating, because I’m wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt from an already purchased bottle, and have no plans to shop today. Does that count? I meant to bring a sample of Marfa by Memo for today but forgot to pack it.

I’ve been too busy to check in lately – getting ready to travel for the holiday, a drive that normally takes 8 hours taking 12 hours, and then the weirdness of family dynamics have kept me occupied. However, I just read all of the posts from yesterday, and I want to add my voice to everyone who is thankful for the wonderful people who post here, as well as to send comforting thoughts and virtual hugs to everyone who is having a difficult time this holiday season. Needless to say, you all smell gorgeous.

Credit card must stay hidden…too many unexpected expenses have cropped up. But I am in a spritz of Coromandel, from a decant, which I will continue to use sparingly. (I’m trying to ignore all the comments about the various deals today….I did take advantage of something on Deciem’s site last night…they’re so overwhelmed it won’t arrive till mid January, which is fine.)

Lovely food and friends yesterday. A nice respite for my husband and me. Unfortunately, our sweet girl Ghostie made it clear on Wednesday night that she was ready to go. My husband’s wasn’t home, so I called the theater where he was and had them pull him out. He came home, and we made the inevitable decision. It was peaceful, and they were all very kind at the hospital. We miss her terribly but I’m so very thankful we had her as long as we did. She was truly a miracle…tamed from ferocious feral into a loving, trusting cuddler. The other three are gathering a bit closer together.

I’m wearing Ciel d’Opale, by Ann Gerard. I received a trio of Gerard scents (the small coffret) a few years ago from a generous perfumista pal, and I fell in love with this one. It’s one of the few ultra-floral perfumes I love wearing, and I am always tempted to buy a full bottle so that I can spray it with abandon, rather than delicately dabbing it onto my wrists.

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

I am wearing it as a spine strengthener as I fight my way through the crowds at the mall :-). I am walking there so no issues with parking which will put me in a better mood for the expected lines.

In-store, it is all about buying gifts for others. Online is another story and I already failed the Community Project…

I got back from the mall. There was plenty of parking but the walk was good. I hit the gift from me to me first (Brighton bracelet), then got my friend a Giants insulated tumbler, saw a $1 cart (got stretchy bracelets and 3 packs of AA batteries to be included with lantern gifts) and then finally got to Bath and Body Works. What a zoo! But with the buy 3, get 3 and a $10 off $30 coupon, I got 6 shower gels and 6 hand creams which took care of a good chunk of my stocking stuffer items! Macy’s was crazy chaotic and thank goodness I did not plan to shop there.

I’m scentless today but thinking Chergui (thanks to PL67 and mtg) or Cuir Ottoman, both of which make me want to hide my credit card.

So I got great news about Lucy today. We took her to the vet and he knocked her out and unwrapped her leg. The sutures are holding (he was worried they wouldn’t because the skin was so thin) and the infection seems to be getting much better. No necrosis. He rewrapped it and said to keep doing what we’re doing-keep her in her little hospital cage and antibiotics and pain meds. We will recheck Wednesday. Overall very good report though! So so thankful! I love her so much!

I’m in exactly the same position. Unless something falls into m6 embracing arms, as 1270 did earlier this week, all my big purchases can easily wait until i’m bavk At Fumerie nex5 June. I’m not even impatient about it, just serenely waiting to buy LOTS next time.

Hey, I was interested in your comment about a Roberto Cavalli perfume that smells very similar to Organza Indecence. OI has been in my crosshairs for a while, because it sounds just my gourman affair, all sweet and puddeny, but if I’m right, the RC is the one in the very pretty bottle that I admired at your place. If so, I must get the RC instead, because I remember that you said it can be found at very reasonable prices at a particular chain of stores whose name I will have to get from you again. If I buy the RC, it will leave more $$$ to dispose of on Aedes de Venustas and other glories…and now I’ve worked myself into a very slight impatience.

Yes, the Cavalli is in that tall, skinny, breathe-on-me-and-I-fall-over bottle. It’s usually very cheap at Fragrancenet.com but they are OOS at the moment. Beauty Encounter has it for $50.

And my apologies for the mad typos. The new keyboard that came with the last iOS update produces some weird variations on standard English. Add my usual careless impatience and the results are C- I must proof read more. What a hypocrite I am. I’m always writing that on my students’ work, and here I am, a terrible offender in my own life!

If you don’t mind my 2 cents worth Waterdragon, I have both OI and Oro and whilst I agree that there are similarities, that is all there is imho. OI is indeed sweet and rich and spicey and puddeny and utterly delicious! Oro is nice. It’s in the same genre I guess but it is much lighter and far less indulgent and to me, sometimes has an air of chemical accompanying it. So I would hate to see you substitute believing that they are interchangeable, or get Oro and then believe that OI is the same if you are at all disappointed. Oro is far more mainstream. Oh I wish I could just pop a bit of each in the mail to you so you could see what I mean!
(but I have been thinking.. my lovely neighbour is from NZ and goes home regularly for visits so the next time she goes I will aee if she’d be willing to mule some samples etc to NZ to deliver to you and then maybe you could pass any you choose on to Kanuka and Gaynor?) I have much to share but limited ability to do so!!

Good morning, all. Housework today, with a trip out this afternoon to test drive a new car. I’m stupidly excited about the car, because we haven’t bought a new one for, my goodness, at least 15 years, and even then, it was second-hand. It’s still reliable, but is now very shabby, though that’s not the problem. My difficulty with it is that I’m finding it rather uncomfortable on the quite long trips we do, typically 6 hours door-to-door, over some fairly hairy roads. We enjoyed the comfort of a new car so much when we were on holiday in June that we’ve decided to bring the purchase forward instead of waiting for my (now eventual) retirement. So, all things being equal with the test drive, we will own a new Hyundai Kona (a 2017 release baby SUV) before our Christmas trip to Whanganui. Yay for a comfortable journey and no stiff back at the far end!

So, to perfume. I’m plunging into my tasks in Bottega Veneta Velour, because it’s delightful, and also, the soft leather is making me think of that new car smell (I did say I was stupidly excited).

Titus and I have been playing with a Peggy Sue, a bright pink clothes peg captured from the clothes horse in face of great danger, and his favourite toy. I throw, he retrieves…repeat…it never get boring. For him, that is to say, though. However,
though this game has severe limitations from my point of view, it does give me the occasional totally enchanting view. If Peggy Sue skitters under the bottom shelf of the bookcase, he plunges right in to fetch it out, leaving only his stripey hind quarters in sight, tail in the air, caramel-and-dark-chocolate bits and pieces exposed, knees together, toes splayed for grip on the tiles. I don’t know why the sight appeals to me so much, but it does.

Right. Off to scrub the kitchen floor. Excellent. Be well, all.

The new car sounds very exciting!

Yes, it’s a sticker, all right. I was side-tracked by tidying the hall cupboard and the linen cupboard and now the linen cupboard wafts a distinct BV note when I open it. Those kittens! Everything that can be clambered up, perched on, and knocked over is a game. Piles of pillowcases are especially fine, because they have an inherent wobbliness that tests a kitten’s skill to the max. Sometimes the pillow cases win. Great game!

      Watedragon,
I am at the Hyundai dealership right now having an oil change. I paid this shiny red baby off last week a year early! Enjoy your test drive and purchase and new car smell….
And I scrubbed the kitchen floor before I left the house.

We’re getting red, I think! Or maybe a sort of sea blue/green colour. I’m not too worried, though I have a sneaking preference for the red, ‘cos, you know, exciting and not middle-aged.

My very first car was red. So, when I bought this one for my 60th birthday, I thought it was time for red again.
          Go for it!

Getting a new car is always exciting, even if it isn’t an ‘exciting’ car model! I think it’s wise to get a new one (and start paying it off) when you can, if you’re at all due. My parents just recently did that; now they won’t have to worry about it again for another 10+ years.

My “hide the credit card” scent is Cuir Beluga, a favorite bedtime scent. I have a 5ml decant coming and I’m hoping to make it thru the holiday season with that. SOTD is White Linen, child of N°22 and Iris Poudre. I love it on clear, sunny Winter days.

Wearing TF Cafe Rose today, which is making me very itchy to buy a FB, but is also $250 for the 50 mL, so that ain’t happening!

I failed at Buy Nothing Day as well; my hair dryer died yesterday morning so I had to make a Target run…

To those who are working today, especially those of you in retail, I hope you have as easy of a day as possible, and a good holiday season!

Happy “Black Friday” Everyone! I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a great one. Because I am in need of restocking my whole perfume collection, this week’s challenge was too difficult to choose one particular scent.
My SOTD is Insolence by Givenchy. The only reason this scent was selected was because I haven’t worn it in months.

Hello, NST! Yesterday went very well at my friend’s place. Plenty of delicious food, and convivial conversation. I also tried mince pie for what I am pretty sure is the first time ever. I was fighting off the inevitable food coma after dinner, though.

SOTD = MFK Baccarat Rouge 540, from the sample stash. I am with KellyC on this one… Hide my credit card! However, the bottle price is flat-out of my price range unless it gets to the discounters. I will enjoy the sample I have.

So far, no buying for me on Black Friday!

Yes, I have purchased quite a few samples from The Posh Peasant with no problems. I will add the caveat that their service may depend on if your local post office is good at delivering to your address or not.

I will chime in that I second that…placed an order two summers ago close to 100 dollars..mailman delivered to wrong address, recipients refused to return it, Posh Peasant refused to send out a new set of decants or refund my money and so I was out of luck. Cross your fingers that you receive it….and that going out of business sale has been going on since the summer of 2016 :)

They ignored the mailman’s repeated attempts to retrieve it….anyone can claim that it was “not received” when there are no signature requirements. And just as an aside, the woman who lives where it was delivered to is in law enforcement.

They recently closed the one on the UWS, but I also found one at Columbus Circle in the underground shops which is pretty descent. Sales staff is aggressive, however.
