PSAs: Don't forget to change your clocks tonight! And the Juice Box contest is still open.
Today: a variation on a poll we did for Spring Forward. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it's spring where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.
1. What's the fragrance you'd most like to add to your collection this fall?
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?
3. It's time for a (fantasy) Fall Foliage getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you.
Note: top image is Happy Fall everybody 🙂 [doubled] by Lauren Manning at flickr; some rights reserved.
Happy weekend all, 10 hours sleep is a wonder.
1. Hope to add Cuir de Russie, which I will be testing today thanks to a generous NSTer.
2. Off the island…PdN Cuir Cuba. It’s nothing on me.
3. Fantasy trip, Kyoto in the fall is beautiful, all the hills covered in color. And I would wear Kyoto or Parfum Satori. And endlessly walk the streets of Gion and the philosophers walk.
Good choice for #1. That’s one of the fall fragrances for sure (and the rest are of the year too)
10 hours sleep! Jealous . . .
I had high hopes for Cuir Cuba but it similarly did nothing for me.
Cuir Cuba does nothing for me either.
I want to come too! Sounds so wonderful.

Wrapping up fougere week (and a mild case of OCD), wearing
Tuscany Per Uomo Aramis

Already know tomorrow’s scent
Joop! Femme, wanted to wear it today but the aforementioned condition was tugging at my arm.

????
I ought to get out and rake leaves! Not likely, though. Glad one of us is taking care of the yard 🙂
I LOVE LOVE LOVe Joop! Femme..you will be smelling extra delicious tomorrow if you decide to wear it…please come to my house Bear and rinse and repeat on my lawn 🙂
Joop’s on my list! I wish the feminine version were hot pink, I’m not a millennial – but I like pink 😉
Ironically the mens version has a pink hue to the bottle…at the time they both debuted I was with someone who was as much a fragrance nutter as I and we had matching bottles…I will tell you that both the Femme and Homme version were outstanding…I don’t know if they have been reformulated but both sell for a song online and many folks have commented that they are powerhouses with excellent longevity.
Can confirm the projection & longevity of the original, my ex wore it loud & proud. His friends teased him but I loved it ????
SOTD is Black Perfecto
I went snooping to see if the shalimar flanker which gave birth to another flanker shalimar soufflé intense was out and about at the stores but I didn’t see anything.
1. I can’t think of anything I want to add. Going to take my temperature and make sure I am ok!
2. Limon Verde, just didn’t get much love this summer
3. To me there is not place like fall in New England, and the leaves are not like fire in the previous years but of all the places I could fantasize about being I would pick Central Park (even though I live close to there!) Something really wonderful about that place and the atmosphere in the fall. I wouldn’t wear perfume, just smell the air and feel the crisp cold on my face. Go to Via Q for a cappuccino and walk along Madison sniffing at all those perfume shops
Also..wanted to wish all the marathoners a great race mañana We will all be watching and cheering. Have a good run and be safe
A walk in Central Park followed by a cappuccino sounds perfect.
Today I am watching the marathon in the rain wearing No 19 Poudre!
Ringing my cow bell !
In Europe we changed the clocks 2 weeks ago, but this will be our last fall back as the bill has been voted to stay on summer time permanently starting next year.
1. I would love to add La Parfumerie Moderne Belles Rives or Grandiflora Queen of the Night.
2. I can definitely live without Ann Gerard Rose Cut. I don’t wear it at all.
3. Like Apsara I also had Kyoto in my mind. But I think Norwegian fjords could be interesting too.
Sotd is Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir, many thanks to our hajusuuri for a sample. It’s ok but very faint in my skin.
Hi everyone! Happy November! I’m in Vol de Nuit EDT since I can’t afford the parfum my heart desires. I know vintage purists might scoff but the parfum tester in the relatively new Saks in Houston smelled close enough to vintage that I wouldn’t turn it down if I wound up with a large gift card this December.
Onto the questions:
1. Either 31 Rue Cambon or Borneo 18-something. I’m leaning to the Chanel because I’ve smelled the EdP testers. I haven’t smelled Borneo in years and am a bit nervous to buy “blind.”
2. A lot of my collection is blind buys or vintage finds so I won’t cop out to those. Instead I’d say Muscs Kublai Khan, in an export bottle. I’ve worn about 30ml but I rarely feel in the mood for a rosy, kitteny musk. It’s also very faint. I need something with legs! (That’s why I bought my Absolu Pour le Soir.)
Oh shoot, sorry Lucasai!
You smell exquisite! I get amazing longevity from NO. (Possibly because I apply generously! ????)
Thank! I only have this one sample, so can’t apply a lot
I voted out my Rose Cut travel spray a while back. Nice but thought it was a bit bland.
Guess we have similar thoughts.
Interesting about daylight savings! I didn’t know you did it over there, but my husband just said, yes, it was invented in Germany. I wish we would do away with it as well.
I’m with you. I wish we would fall back and stay put. It doesn’t bother me too much in the fall but I usually feel unwell for several weeks when we spring forward. I heard that Massachusetts is considering abolishing DLST. Lucky them.
I think they decided they needed the whole NE to switch or it wouldn’t work.
It didnt bother me that much before though Im going to duck since I prefer winter time. But Chile switches for 3 months only and it messes with computers/phones because its not in sync with the rest of the world. So I wish they would just not bother.
I’m soooo envious! I hate changing time! At this point I do not care on which time to stay – I just don’t want to go back and forth.
I prefer staying on summer time, because then in October/November it’s darker in the morning, which I don’t mind, but it’s ligh longer in the afternoon
No Daylight Savings here in AZ – always grateful for one less thing to remember!
1. I sampled Byredo’s Accord Oud yesterday and a lemming was born. Would love a bottle, but their prices give me the heaves.
2. Don’t think I will replace my nearly-empty bottle of SL A La Nuit. I still think it’s lovely but I’ve moved on from jasmine to rose.
3. Hmm. Somewhere with cool weather and pretty foliage and few people and nice food. I’ll take Tam Dao (and my family).
I went to look at the price. It is not cheap but it is so far from the worst of the (niche) bunch! Did you consider splitting a 3-pack of the travel sizes?
I only just noticed that it comes in sizes other than 100ml! Maybe I will try the travel sizes . . .
SOTM is Barbara Bui, after someone here mentioned it recently. It’s really lovely. Fragrance I’d most like to add … at this moment I would love to stumble across a FB of Lostmarc’h Iroaz. It’s one of those “have to be in just the right mood for” scents, and I suspect it is its elusiveness that I’m actually attracted by. One to vote off the island? Balenciaga Paris. Once I got over the newness, its simplicity started to grate on me.
And for fantasy leaf-viewing I’d have to go with an area near me, but about thirty years ago, before multiple landslides and forest fires made it unsafe, or maybe a few years into the future when they finish restoring it – the old Columbia River Gorge Highway. It’s a very old state highway that has been converted to bike and pedestrian traffic only, and it is a little slice of heaven.
Especially as a former Oregonian, I was so sorry to hear about the fires. Those trails were a glorious experience (and will be again).
Oh, fun, fun!
1. Either Naja or Onda VdE. It very doubtful they will be added but one never knows. There are some appealing perfume shops in this neck of the woods…!
2. I think I would have to let my EL Bronze Godess body cream go. Does it count if it’s not a perfume? It IS very perfumed…I would miss it, but…
3. I think I’m in a great place right now. SSS Winter Woods or Forest Walk would be perfect, but as it happens, I’m wearing Anne Pliska today.
Cheers and happy weekend.
Oh no, Bronze Goddess! That is one of my most-used-things.
Last minute PSA for Chicago area NSTers- Jeffrey Dame will be at Merz Apothecary (Lincoln Square) today from 1-4pm. No affiliation, but a huge fan! I had the opportunity to meet him several years ago, and he is absolutely charming!
My sotd is Eau des Missions. I adore this one when fall arrives. ????
Scent twins! 🙂
You smell great and I am so jealous you get to meet Jeffrey! I have only had the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone once and he is such a lovely man….
Hope you had fun 🙂
1. I’d really like to add a bottle of Trayee to my collection, but the price point is a serious deterrent. See also: Bois des Iles, Cuir de Russie, and Misia.
2. The bottle of Chloe (new version) that I bought a few years ago and never wear. What was I thinking?
3. Fall fantasy trip would have to be my perennial destination choice: NYC. never been there in the autumn, and I hear it’s a good time! 🙂 I would wear all the perfumes I would immediately purchase upon arrival.
I want a bottle of Pichola — same!!
SOTD is Lolita Lempicka, which I expect I’ll be wearing lots of this month while I work on my NaNoWriMo novel.
1. Fall is my favorite FAVORITE. I love it so much, even though it’s been disappointing this year (not cool enough. too wet. too hot. not much leaf color). That said, I can’t think of anything I am really wanting right now.
2. I have several to be booted, but if we’re talking about a wear-in-fall scent that I don’t wear much anymore, it’s SSS Champagne de Bois. I rather think my bottle has aged badly, because it has become terribly sa-WEET, and I don’t remember it smelling like that when it was new. I won’t give it away, I’ll toss it.
Another cool-weather one not getting much love is my replacement bottle of PdN Vanille Tonka. The second bottle had been reformulated and lacks the lime I loved best, so I just don’t wear it at all now. I mean, it’s fine and not ruined like the CdB, but every time I wear the newer bottle I am disappointed in it. I need to find it a new home.
3. As long as it’s a fantasy (!), I’m heading straight for autumn of 1986, to make some better decisions in my first year of college. My ride-or-die fragrance is vintage Magie Noire.
That’s a shame about the SSS! Champagne de Bois is in my top 3 favorites of ALL time. I would be so downhearted if it went off!
And I love your #3. I think you win a prize today for thinking outside the box. 🙂
May I ask what “NaNoWriMo” means? Intriguing.
Politely butting in to say National Novel Writing Month, wherein you attempt to write a 50K word novel during the month of November.
And politely adding the link:
https://nanowrimo.org/
1. The only holes in my fragrance wardrobe are incense and amber, so I’d welcome a bottle featuring either of those notes. Maybe Incense Rose, Kyoto or Ambre d’Merveilles?
2. If I go by number of wears, it would be Musc 25 by le labo. But that’s because I’m hoarding it (even though my brain says not to hoard). I actually can’t think of one bottle that I really would want to get rid of. Samples are another story!
3. Larch Valley, Banff National Park. One of my absolute favorite places on Earth. I would bring Lonesome Rider with me.
I’m trying Tauer’s He left his cologne in my bedroom, and the rosemary is super prominent on my skin. My husband just walked into the room, sniffed the air, and said “You smell good. Can we have roast chicken tonight?”
LOL — your husband sounds like my husband! Do you like the scent?
I do like the scent – but I think you would really have to love rosemary to love it. I can’t see myself ever using up a full bottle.
Interesting, thanks. I do love rosemary.
BAHAHAHA!! That is so cute about your husband! Thank you for making me laugh!
I just looked up picture of Banff…. breathtaking. I think that’s where I want to go as well!
I love rosemary! And your husband’s comment is too, too funny. Mine would likely react the same way!
I accidentally responded to Lucasai above, but I forgot to ask Robin for her choices!
I was just this morning thinking I should really buy some perfume…as usual I am stymied because the things that immediately popped to mind are not available in small sizes. But the first thing that popped to mind was Corsica Furiosa, so I’ll go with that!
Off the island: I really ought to give away my VCA Bois d’Iris.
I would take Bruno Fazzolari Feu Secret on a little trip to New England.
Two thumbs up for Corsica Furiosa!!
🙂
Another one that is on the top 5 of my shopping list!
1. With my early September purchase of Derby, I’m not supposed to buy any more perfumes within three months, so I don’t think there’ll be new addition this autumn! However I do have a wishlist (which just keeps getting longer). Nicolaï’s Sacrebleu Intense and/or Diptyque Oud Palao might make it into my winter addition!
2. I have an old bottle of Eau de Lanvin which is quite a boring spicy citrus and which I barely use at all. Yes it can go.
SOTD is CdG Avignon.
I have a vintage splash bottle of Eau de Lanvin that I adore but it is very quiet. I only wear it at night. I’m sorry your version is boring!
1. What’s the fragrance you’d most like to add to your collection this fall? Well, I just added SL Fille de Berlin, but mals just reminded me that I wouldn’t mind a little bottle of PdN Vanille Tonka.
2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why? I love it, but somehow I never wear it, so goodbye Serendipity.
3. It’s time for a (fantasy) Fall Foliage getaway! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you. I’d head out to the North Cascades National Park, and I’d bring SSS Pacific Forest for an all-encompassing experience.
Hey, we are almost escapee and scent twins!
🙂 Hope you’re enjoying your travels.
Yay – Saturday! In Guerlain Angelique Noire from a splitmeet a while ago, and reeking a little havoc with an additional spritz of Profumum Meringa – also from a splitmeet!
1) Although it’s not a fall/winter scent particularly, I’d love to add Profumum Roma Acqua Viva. I can’t seem to get enough of well done lemon fragrances. Lemon, broom flower, cypress and cedar.
2) I guess it would be Laura Biagiotti Tempore Donna. Although I think it’s a well done and interesting fruity floral, I just can’t spray it lightly enough. It always wears me, rather than the other way around. (Per Fragrantica: Top notes are pineapple, mandarin orange, peach and lemon; middle notes are violet, freesia, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley; base notes are sandalwood, vanilla, dark chocolate, vetiver and cedar.)
3) I’d be on my way to Stockholm, one of my favorite cities ever, in a heartbeat if I could. I think I’ll take 1000 Flowers Reglisse Noire with me. And while I’m there, I’ll stop by Byredo and sniff everything and get a treat.
Have you tried decanting the LB? That’s what I do with things I can’t spray lightly enough!
Good point. I’ve done it with other fragrances, but never with this one. Worth a try. Thanks!
SOTD Opium Fleur d’Shanghai
1) I’d add this in theory but finding a bottle without a crazy price tag is probably not going to happen. I’ll savor my decant which is probably actually enough for my fickle whims anyway.
2) Hmmm. A few bottles languishing: LouLou, Burberry London. Probably more but I’d have to go look.
3) A trip up to Manhattan’s Cloisters in Inwood overlooking the tree lined Hudson. It’s gorgeous on a clear Fall day.
The Cloisters are gorgeous…in high school I had to make a field trip there alone one Saturday for a school report and fell in love with the place.
The views from the Cloisters are amazing. Good place to enjoy the fall beauty!
Quick note to those in the DC area: don’t miss the special exhibit at the Hillwood Estate of Marjorie Merriweather Post’s spectacular gems and jewelry — literally dazzling! Wear Roja Dove Diaghilev and see her Russian art collection, too.
https://www.hillwoodmuseum.org/Spectacular-Gems-and-Jewelry
She had nice things 🙂
Succinct epitaph! ????
Wow, those are gorgeous–I love the green/emerald ones, especially!
Swoon!
1. I really want a full 3g of The Rising Phoenix Yeti attar. It is just Ambergris and Sandalwood – two of my favorite notes. But this is out of price range. I could also use a FB of Mx or O’hira.
2. There is a lot of things I want to boot off. When I started on the perfumista journey, I got a whole bunch of L’Artisan perfumes and I do not think I like any of them. So, Traverse du Bosphores, La chasse de Papilon, Mure et Musc, the two roses they did, all need to go (and they slowly have been leaving). I am still undecided about Dzonghka and Timbuktu, but the rest of the line just does not click with me.
3. I really really like San Diego. We generally go during the summer, but I would love to go there during the fall. I would just take some of my Sandalwood oils with me.
O Hira is yummy!
I have a sample and I wore it last week….so good, and even better when weather gets colder.
Greetings from Metz, I am on a short trip this weekend. My 2nd visit. Its such a lovely city.
Sotd is Larmes du Désert
I visited Musée Lalique today (a 75 min drive from Metz, probably 60 min from Strasbourg).
They have amazing stuff on display.
Of course lots and lots of perfume bottles, but the jewelry, glassware were also gorgeous.
And the whole region is so beautiful! The museum is situated in the heart of breathtaking scenery, Parc Naturel Regional des Vosges du Nord. Especially now with all the autumn colours. so i guess the answer to 3 no longer is a fantasy 😉
But I’d also love to visit South Korea or Japan in fall.
Question 1, cant get Iris Nazarena and Ambre Loup out of my head…they both are great scents for fall imo (and now i cant get that Kylie Minogue tune out of my head)
Question 2, probably Ophelia, by Heely. Its very nice and pretty but I hardly reach for it.
Wish u all a great weekend!
On your question nu 1 – I don’t know about Kylie’s songs but both Iris Nazarene and Ambre loup are hard to get out of your head. Both are beautiful
🙂
There is a song by Kylie Minogue, called “cant get you out of my head” it was a big hit in Europe somewhere at the beginning of this millenium. The song is kind of an earworm. Even if you dont like it or dont like Kylie, you can:t eh well…get it out of your head… 😉
Yep, now it’s in my head. ???? It will replace the Tina Turner “What’s Love Got to Do With It” that’s been in there all morning, inexplicably.
It was a hit in the USA, also.
I bought the CD !
????
????
It’s grey, foggy, drippy out, and I’m loving it. Fall at last! Rain at last!
1. O Hira. Yes, Clarissa, you can have some 🙂
2. I think tomorrow I will be swapping summer scents for winter scents, and I expect I’ll find a few that need to go. L’Occitane Cade comes to mind; I like the shower gel but I’m not sure I’ve ever felt the need to reach for the perfume. Will give it a try when it comes out of the storage box… but I think this one is destined for Ebay. Ha, just last week I sold my spring off-the-island scent: Vent Vert.
3. Don’t really want to go anywhere right now; just enjoying the drizzle here at home. Yosemite might be nice though, haven’t been there in a while.
You are tempting me pixel 🙂
Wearing once again Prada Purple Rain. Really beautiful!.
1. I would love to add La Fille de Berlin and either CdG Ouarzazate or Jaisalmer.
2. So many to get rid of, but it comes to my mind now Yves Rocher Rose Oud. It does not work for me anymore.
3. I will stay in New York state for the fall foliage. Really beautiful even though this year due to the warmer temperatures it has not been so awesome. I would wear Cuir de Lancome and SL Feminite du Bois.
Have a nice weekend everyone!
And I want some Kyoto!
Can’t believe I slept to 12:30 today! Exhausting work week with my last conference of the year Thur & Fri
I’m full to the brim with new freebies, splits, and purchases.. not sure I need anything else at this point but…
1. Dior Ambre Nuit 40mls I’d love. I think this size is only available in Europe, however. Wish they’d make them available here vs. the 250mls they offer.
2. Was looking this week at the scents I currently have and yet haven’t worn in some time and was thinking of passing along either via swap or sell but I think it’s too early and worry I’d regret it. The one I might boot off the island is Tea for Two. That one has really languished.
3. I’m actually driving the CA coast next week and very excited to visit and stay in Santa Barbara for the first time followed by Paso Robles. Haven’t decided on scent but thinking I might bring Carnal Flower and Eau de Merveille.
SOTD: Lutin’s A La Nuit
I used to live in that part of California! It’s gorgeous. Have a wonderful trip.
Thanks! We’re really excited.
high five for the 12:30 sleep in!
As long as I live in California, I never tire of the drive up or down the coast.
Today I can see snow dusting the top of Mt Baldy from my living room windows and straight to Catalina island through the kitchen.
As Joni Mitchell would sing…Oh but California…California I’m coming home.
Have a wonderful trip!
Sounds like a lovely view you have.
I’ve not seen much of CA beyond the cities, and I know there is so much more.
Nice! I love that drive and the CA coadt in general.
My next purchase will be Lubin’s Idole. I spend a lot of time in our local perfumery, I want to support them, but they don’t stock much that makes it to my buy list, especially with their very hugh prices. However, I’ve been contemplating Idole for a long time, and I’ve decided it will be my Christmas present to me. Now that it’s November, I feel I can start thinking about presents 🙂
The only thing I can think of that I could even possibly getting rid of is Annick Goutal’s Mandragore. It’s lovely, but too light for my tastes. We don’t enough hot weather for me to need really light perfumes.
Autumn leaves – I might need to travel for that, New Zealand doesn’t have deciduous native trees. I’ve seen some gorgeous photos from the northern US and now I see you even have maps that show the best places!
And the fragrance to take with me – probably something incensey and contemplative. Maybe Bois d’Encens.
Idole is a great choice!
Today I’m wearing MFK Oud Satin Mood which came as a very nice gift from a fellow NST-er, who also sent some other samples including MFK Ciel de Gum, and that is one I’d love to add to my collection–well, either of these.
I really have too many I wouldn’t mind getting rid of but I’ll mention SL Arabie. Just too much spice and fruit for me and others do something similar but more subtly.
Now, my fantasy fall foliage place is a bit unusual and out of the way, but I would love to go to visit the Buddhist temple Bulguksa in Korea. I was there in summer in 2016, and it was so beautiful and the photos of it in fall look just stunning. (Here’s one: https://www.tribaeast.com/product/busan-gyeongju-ancient-city-heritage-cultural-retreat-釜山庆州佛国庄严齐游今古/.)
I hope that link works. I would wear Geisha Hinoki Vanilla by Aroma M because it is what I wore during that trip and I have such an association between it and Korea.
Bulguksa is amazing, isnt it?! So cool to see someone mentioning it. 🙂 I was there in spring years ago. It was april, in Gyeongku i stayed in a hotel near a lake, and the whole lake was surrounded by trees in blossom, it was white everywhere, almost surreal,, great memory.
But yesss, would love to visit it (and the rest of Korea) in autumn!
Wow, what a coincidence! Your description sounds so beautiful. I bet I stayed at the same hotel, also beautiful in summer (but it was VERY hot). The grounds of the temple are also wonderful with so many trees and a lotus pond and more. It was crowded with tourists and many people were going into the temple for prayers, wonderful to see.
Oh and the link works, great pics
And I meant Gyeongju…with a j not a k, of course!
Beautiful. I’d like to visit South Korea one day just because I have so many friends from there and I’d like to see their native home and understand them more as a result.
I would love to go spend some time eating Jeong Kwan’s temple food (and meditating, of course) at Baekyangsa Temple.
They do use interesting kinds of incense, too.
My SOTD was Nirvana white, but that only lasted for about an hour.
1. I grooved on my sample of Sacrebleu Intense, so maybe a small bottle (yay for small bottles!)
2. Dame Peach Blossom Violet and Vanilla. I liked this when dabbed but the peach overwhelms when sprayed. I could live with keeping a small decant.
3. Something ambery. Ambre Precieux, Barbara Bui, ambre 114…
Love that PdN still makes small sizes. Wish DelRae and PdE would follow suit!
It’s a cloudy day here, and we went for a walk by the lake, so I’m in L’Ombre dans L’Eau. The very last of a sample, and a great day to wear it.
1. To add to my collection… I would love to find a used bottle of Parfums Delrae Amoureuse, but Bvlgari The Bleu is probably more within my budget at the moment. Both are lovely!
2. Off the island – Byredo 1996. The patchouli blooms on my skin and doesn’t do me any favors. Too bad, as I like the rest of it.
3. I have small children. I no longer dream of traveling. Hah!
#3, you dream of more sleep? That’s what I dreamt of when my son was young!
to add…nothing at the moment
to take away…nothing at the moment
fantasy travel…a day at home completely alone with three pints of Ben and Jerry’s , a large chocolate covered marzipan and zippo to do…
yeah, I am very boring, but smelling good in LDDM 🙂
“chocolate covered marzipan BAR”….LOL! (unless we cover Mr. CM8 in chocolate…then he could be my large chocolate covered marzipan!)
A dream with a day like that, just by myself enjoying simple pleasures and resting, resting, resting……
YES! Resting and vegging out truly is underrated but so necessary!
I have some adding and deleting to do, but I echo your Fantasy travel – I am never home alone – and it’s probably the hardest fantasy to make a reality!
This is the life of a mother , right?
I was at Aldi this afternoon and thought I would go into a diabetic coma just LOOKING at the milk chocolate covered marzipan bar 🙂
I love Aldi! Their Christmas desserts are dangerous. Don’t even mention the dark chocolate covered, apricot jelly filled gingerbread…
Ha! You just did! I like it because each store is so manageable. I also figured out some sale items that start on Sundays are actually available on Saturdays.
the raspberry filled chocolate covered heart shaped leibkuchen is equally as good…have not seen the apricot one but now i want it!!!!
I already put in my “order” with my parents…for holiday presents this year they are giving us goodies from Aldi’s….I told them to go early as everything seems to sell out quickly.
We are finally getting an Aldi nearby, should I be excited?
Oh yes you should 🙂 (unless of course you are attempting to lose weight..then I say “don’t venture in!”)
You smell amazing! And that fantasy day sounds perfect.
Thank you! I have enjoyed getting to know the Tauers…they are one of the few fragrances that can stand up to my scent eating skin. Yesterday I finished up my sample of LDDM…I am intrigued how it smells different depending on the weather.
CM8 – have you tried Sonoma Scent Studio? I feel like the scents must have a lot of oil content, reminds me a little bit of Tauers – I think they hold up well!
I have been wearing SSS for the past five plus years as it is one of my favorite indie lines! They are pure perfumes so they are stronger and last longer…however, nothing holds a candle to the Tauers…two sprays last 12+ hours which is beyond miraculous for my skin.
I thought of you when I was watching a recent episode of The Great British Baking Show and the contestants had to make some kind of Swedish cake that had the shape of a high dome with a green marzipan covering all over it. I think I don’t know exactly what marzipan even is but they looked beautiful!
LOL! I must hunt this episode down now as I am pretty sure I can watch The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. Marzipan is a white paste like substance made from ground almonds and sugar….it is delectable! and one of my favorite sweet treats.
Yes you can but they only have 3 seasons (and they don’t have the same numbering as the original UK series). I am almost done with the 3rd and then will be quite sad — it is exactly the sort of stress-reducing tv I need.
thanks for that info! I will take three seasons…it sounds like a great show! I just binge watched Alias Grace over the weekend…highly recommend it.
Another cold day in Seattle, and I pulled out my treasured Estée Lauder Private Collection Amber Ylang Ylang. It’s such a good perfume to pair with a sweater. Had yummy kimchi hash for breakfast and plan to spend the rest of the day lounging and trying to keep warm. I’m halfway through reading Alias Grace and am enjoying even more than A Handmaid’s Tale so far. Hoping to make some good progress this weekend!
1. Two that have been on my list for some time are Aedes de Venustas EDP and Miller et Bertaux Green, Green, Green and…Green. Neither are really season although and aren’t in my budget at the moment.
2. Organza – My boyfriend’s mom passed it along to me, and it’s nice enough but doesn’t really feel like me. And it’s huge! I have the 100ml bottle.
3. Seattle is having a gorgeous fall, so I’m pretty content here right now. Though, it would be fun to venture to the opposite side of the country, like Maine or another New England locale. I’d take Coromandel and L’air de Rien.
Two wonderful choices to add to your collection!
The perfume I’m really hankering after is incense rose.
Somewhere in Japan, I’d take Dzonka or incense rose.
I wore Azemourles oranges today for my training weekend day, and have swapped to Patchouli Antique for cosy night in watching fireworks.
The Tauer?
I wondered that too. I really love that one, it’s a beauty.
Oh and the one to go is Gucci by Gucci.
SotD = Dzongkha + Barbara Bui Le Parfum, an accidental layering that works.
Something new for fall – tuberose! a tiny bottle of Gucci Bloom fits the bill, or a decant of Luci ed Ombre.
Vote off – a new-ish bottle of Infusion d’Iris edp gives me headache though the old one doesn’t. Perhaps it has slightly different ingredients. Several times I’ve forgotten about it, worn it again, then remembered why it was at the back of the pile. Today I put a “headache” post-it note on the bottle.
Getaway + fragrance – the Oak Creek area of Sedona in Arizona, please, with Black Flower Mexican Vanilla to go with apple pie.
MMMM..I ‘ll take BFMV with apple pie any day 🙂
yep, we could make a project out of layering with BFMV, it goes well with so many things.
Oh yes, I use BFMV A LOT as a base…
I love your suggestion for a getaway! I’ve never been to AZ but it’s on my bucket list. And I just tried BFMV and loved it: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/tag/black-flower-mexican-vanilla/.
AZ is beautiful in the fall, though I would happily visit there any time of year.
Thank you for the link. Great writing and photos! BFMV is an unusual and beautiful scent. Dame treats vanilla with the respect it deserves.
1. I really dont know what I would narrow it down to but maybe Pelagornium or however the dang thing is spelled ????
2. Of my wider collection Gucci Tuberose or Tom Ford Noir, both blind buys. Of my collection here Jo Malone Sorrel and Lemon Thyme, citrus is not my thing (unless its orange blossom).
3. Aruba or Colombia and I go with something for heat so perhaps Bottega Knot.
Ah just saw it was supposed to be fall (we’re going into summer in these parts). For fall now I would also chose the Swiss mountains. For Fall next year its going to be the vineyards here. Perfume why anything incensey/ambery of course so Sauf Contre Bombarde is a favorite.
Oh, I would go for the Swiss mountains! (Except maybe that’s too cold for me)
Housework today so no scent yet. I will probably slather on some Providence Perfume Amber Cream Oil post shower. It is very light and won’t irritate the hubs.
I want everything and nothing. I have enough but always want more.
I’m considering passing on Ligea La Sirena. It’s very similar to Shalimar which I prefer. Also Natori, a blind buy that I really like but never wear.
I’d love to head up to Vermont and stay at a bed and breakfast. Do some hiking, enjoy nature and buy maple syrup. I’d probably bring Box of Eels and Coromandel.
The Natori got discontinued, didn’t it? So someone would love to have it! I should go through my cabinet and find everything discontinued that’s being ignored.
1) I’m just about done with my 30mL of 24 Faubourg. I have 3-4 wears left. I might just have to replace it.
2) Either Vetyverio or Volutes gets voted off the island. They are both very nice, but I don’t find myself reaching for them.
3) I’ve been craving a visit to the Finger Lakes region of NY State. So I’ll go there, do some hiking, and warm up with a lovely hot chocolate, the first of the season. I’ll have to wear Jubilation 25, because I’ve been reaching for it often this fall, and it’s wonderful.
I am deeply envious of all you Europeans and Arizonans who don’t have to deal with dumb DST. Hate it.
Your getaway sounds marvelous!
I second you on the DST…I also consider it a royal pain as it messes up my eating and my sleeping 🙁
Mine too. But worse than messing up mine, it messes up my kid’s. I feel so sorry for teachers who have to deal with 25 jet lagged students twice a year. Can’t we just pick a time and stay with it?
The one good thing about DST in fall is that extra hour of sleep!
Have to say I appreciated that!
Just got a bottle of Cuir de Nacre and a new pair of gorgeous shoes so am perfectly happy with what I have.
I need to get rid of CdG Harissa as it constantly reminds me that I did another blind buy when I know better.
For a getaway, I would love best to drive to our mountains for a walk, and probably would not wear any perfume so that I can smell the trees.
SOTD Cuir de Nacre!
OH, I love the smell of dry leaves.
As an Arizonan, I’m happy to not deal with DST, although I miss those long summer days in cooler climates. It would be horrible here…when it’s 110 degrees for months on end, we really don’t need additional hours of the sun beating down.
1) Oh so many. But the real “I WILL have these…someday” list is currently Cuir X, MdO Musc and Epidor. I have an empty vial of Musc that I have been keeping over a year just to take a sniff, I really should get it already.
2) Oh so many! I blind bought Bois 1920 Relativamente Rosso on a flash sale site ages ago and have sprayed it maybe 3 times. Ugh. It’s not bad, just not me, and my husband doesn’t like it much.
3) Fantasy fall travel would be New England with my fantasy bottle Cuir X. I have never been in the fall and hope to take the kids someday so we can all experience the changing colors.
New England is especially pretty during fall. Hope you make it someday soon!
Thanks – I hope so too! We are close. My 5 year old can totally handle the flights, the 3 year old is questionable, but getting there 🙂
I’ve got pork shoulder braising in the oven, and the house smells divine.
1. I’m not lemming after anything I’ve already sampled right now, but I always want all of the perfumes that get talked about here (that I haven’t yet tried).
2. Dzongkha. It should have been perfect. It really wasn’t.
3. I’d like to go on a food tour and visit every restaurant featured on Chef’s Table. I’d take a bottle of 10 Corso Como, which I find to be extremely wearable in just about any time and place.
Mmmmmmm….pork. Can I come over??? 🙂
Dead Pig is pretty yummy.
1. I got a delivery this morning of my latest addition, perfect for fall – Penhaligon’s Clandestine Clara in the Portraits series. I swore I would never buy those ridiculously priced ridiculously packaged bottles but eh, I had been thinking about this ever since I got a Travalo filled with it at the WTC boutique.
2. I wouldn’t vote anything I haven’t worn in a while off the island just because I haven’t worn it in a while because over half my collection would get booted off!
3. I would go to Portland OR in the fall and stay at my brother’s place. He has a waterfront house and the view is just gorgeous! I won’t bring any perfume for two reasons: he is a scent-phobe and I can get my perfume fix from Fumerie
I have been decanting for the splits and should be able to get most of the packages out this weekend. I had been decanting from lightest to heaviest which means Arielle Shoshana will be last!
Ha! I KNEW you would cave in to a full bottle 🙂 Enjoy!!!
I want to get the Countess Dorothea one for my mom because her name is Dorothy. 🙂 Plus it smells nice, even though I don’t like the bottle design.
I want a bottle of II (Deux) but still have at least 7ml so don’t need it. As if that has ever stopped me before.
Off the island? I could let go of a number but in particular a couple of Hermes I got in swaps or what not and just aren’t my thing. Plus headache inducing sometimes. Orange vert and the rhubarbe one.
Fall here in NE has been disappointing with day after day in the 70s. Lovely it seasonally appropriate for the region, but just weird here. Perhaps a trip further north, to the islands in CA? Wearing Memory Hotel, which I also have now. I’ve also been pretending it’s really fall by enjoying Jovoy’s Psychedeliqe and Masque Milano Tango at night. Good snuggle up to read before bed perfumes, among other things.
I need to try that Memory Motel — love the name.
1. Nobile 1942 “Rudos” or D. S. & Durga “Spririt of the Glen” – it’s time for boozy Winter scents again.
2. Probably take the easy way out and get rid of a cheapie, Rome Gigli “For Man”. Earlier in the year someone was kind enough to relieve me of Caron “Anarchiste” and I’m using Gres “Cabaret” as air freshener, so this is the only rubbish scent left. (Then I can move on to the mediocre and the disappointing).
3. How about a week in Buenos Aires? No special perfume in mind – I’ll explore the local brand Fueguia 1833 while I’m there. :^)
I would not mind a small bottle of Spirit of the Glen.
1. For the first time ever, I don’t have a burning desire for anything. I have so much to play with and enjoy and so many samples untested…
2. Hard to pick just one, I made so many rookie mistakes but I’d vote off a bottle of l’Occitane Tea Verte that I’d bought purely on discontinuation and sprayed once.
3. It has been a phenomenally gorgeous autumn here in Vancouver that it is hard to dream of any place more lovely, so I’m living the dream in Arbole Arbole and loving it.
How nice not to be lemming anything!
1. I will be adding Papillon’s Dryad to my stash this fall; already bought it as a gift for my nice husband to give me at Christmas!
2. Off the island: Hanae by Hanae Mori. Just a big sugar bomb. Luckily, I only have a rollerball.
3. I would like to visit in the autumn the parts of Japan that have the most Japanese maples, my favorite tree!
Forgot to say which fragrance I would take with me: aroma M Geisha Marron!
Dryad is gorgeous.
Thanks for the affirmation! I’m so excited to have it. I was dithering about it; knew I wanted it, had a small sample, etc. Then the wonderful Indigo Perfumery had a weekend sale and that knocked down the price to where I didn’t feel so guilty! So I took the plunge. But I’m honor-bound not to open it until Christmas.
Work kicked my butt this week. Goal for the day is some down time and 8 hours of sleep – which might be possible with time change.
1. Bottega Veneta – I have looked at this one a few times but never pulled the trigger. Maybe for 2018.
2. Bruno Acampora Musc – I think I bought this one by mistake when I could not remember that what I really liked was the Le Labo Musc 25 – which I finally bought and love.
3. The realistic dream trip is Big Bend Park in West Texas. I have been here in Texas nearly 30 years, still have not been. My stretch dream trip is Toronto – in the summer to escape the Texas heat.
Big Bend is truly amazing. It’s not exactly beautiful to my mind but it’s so eerie and VAST. It’s like a visit to the moon. I’ve been once and have no urgent desire to go again but would like to go to Marfa now that it’s such a cool art place.
It’s hot in Toronto in the summer too. I’d go somewhere further north, like the Gaspé peninsula of Québec. 🙂
Hello, all. More technology woes (Friday’s effort at posting disappeared into the ether; yesterday I couldn’t reach the internet at all), but the dear man is on the case now. It will be sorted shortly, or so I am led to believe. I don’t mean to sound sceptical, but I know I do. And I am, just a smidge. But we shall see.
This is a fun game. I can’t think of any autumn leaves to see, so I would choose instead to go and see native beech forest. I would wear the tiniest spritz of Cristalle or maybe Cuir de Russie, but I have no idea at all why those seem appropriate. They just seem to be perfumes of light for the dark margins of the forests.
What would I like to add? Truly, I don’t know. Most of what you guys wear, I think. I’m always in awe of what I read here, and if I were given to envy, your posts would probably make me experience it. I’m seriously contemplating a bottle of Anima Dulcis, but I also love the Cire Trudon candle called Sanctus, or something like that. I read recently (here, I think) that the new CT perfumes include one that smells like that candle, so maybe that. I need nothing: I want much. N, actually, there is something I want definitely want, and arguably, need, because I have nothing in my collection like it: Aedes De Venustas Pélargonium. I loved that at Fumerie, and I truly regret not buying it when I could. Next year, it’s a definite.
What could I happily part with? Well, recently I gave away my bottles of the original Bottega Veneta and also Narciso, no probs. I could certain part with Alaïa without losing sleep, and Arabie, likewise. But final choice for leaving the island is….White Linen. It’s too perfect, too uncreased, just simply too pretty for me. I want something more gutsy and less refined. So, there’s a decision decided…
You all smell divine. Be well, all.
Spiritus Sancti! I love that candle.
Finishing up Incense Rose…took this sample home with me this weekend from my special sample container at work. It is nice for the cool weather but wow is it potent!!!
You really get your money’s worth with Tauer. Potent stuff and good!
Hi everyone
It’s cold and wet in Stockholm. Around -1 and kinda hopeless. I detest winter, and with daylight savings we hade daylight until 16.00, after that it’s pitch black. Just awful.
1. I’d love to add Slumberhouse Kiste. A fab peach/bourbon scent. And massive sillage monster.
2. I sold off both Black perfecto, Alien extraordinaire and Byredo Unnamed this week, so I’m not sure who’s next of the island. Might be Alien essence.
3. Florida, the gulf coast. My favorite place in the world. And Seville a aube have to follow me there.
Joining you in detesting winter.
It’s the WORST!
Joining the club.
I’m with you on #1, Kiste is a beauty.
Hi everyone! Right now I am thinking about adding Wonder Bouquet (which is doubful) and Botrytis (which is more doable, and thanks to Elisa P for introducing it to me!) I’ve given away pretty much all of my unloved bottles, but Gucci by Gucci might be next. I don’t want to go anywhere, but would love to be able to hibernate at home with Feve Delicieuse. (Also on the wishful thinking bottle list, lol)
I just added Masque Milano Tango and I plan on getting a lot of use out of it this fall. Just sniffed Menditorrosa Rituale last week and that’s going into heavy consideration as a future purchase.
My vintage Shalimar cologne can be voted off the island which I might have already done. I don’t remember if I threw it out or if it’s just in storage for the next two years. In any case, it was nowhere near being one of the bottles that I HAD to have with me and that I hand-carried with me NY
Since peak fall foliage season has passed here in Boston, I’d consider going to Asheville since I’ve never been there and maybe it’s south enough to still have pretty foliage.
Your vintage Shalimar can find a home in my apartment in new york.
I just bought Rituale, lovely scent.
Hi all. Delurking for a bit. SoTD is PdN New York from an old sample. Smelling a bit fusty.
1. Lubin Kismet. Love it.
2. Amouage Lyric Woman. Migraine in a bottle. I may put it on evilbay.
3. As others have observed, fall in Boston this year hasn’t been as colorful as we’re accustomed to; too warm, the trees are confused. I’d go to Newport and tour the mansions, wearing vintage Shalimar.
And hating DST switch, although I’m not on board with the MA legislator proposing we (and the rest of New England) move one time zone east.
Have a great day.
Does that mean you would be central time? Why do they want to do this?
We’d move to Atlantic Standard Time Zone, so the same as New Brunswick, Canada, Bermuda and parts east. The reason is to add an hour of daylight to the end of the day; it’s also been suggested there would be health benefits. The legislator proposed getting rid of the DST switch too. Don’t see how it would work unless NYC switched too.
Thanks for the information. I find all the different time changes very confusing. But I am all for extra daylight.
Monday morning ( again). I would love a broom perfume. I have been walking through paddocks of flowering broom recently on morning when the fog is just burning off by hot sun and the smell is a mix of mimosa/gorse, faint peppermint, and gernaium leaves…it’s beautiful.
Perfume-wise would love to try Grandiflora Boronia but that would require ‘a trip’ .
I would get rid of Angel Muse, some of my Jo Malone ( i find something in the Myrrh Tonka one that grasps) and some of the Dames ( which I have in oil forms: New Musk , and Mexican Vanilla…too chai for me).
Broom is such a wonderful smell. Kevin has written about broom fragrances and now I can’t remember which ones he loved…
use the Dames for layering…I do that often and really enjoy my experiments….same with the Jo Malones….
After shower, I’ll be in Rhubarbe Ecarlate. It’s humid and in the eighties today. That’s ok, fall will make a reappearance next week. Please hurry, fall.
1) I’ve been hiding my small decant of Iris Nazarena from myself (thank you, swapmeet angel!), because when I see it, I reach for it. It’s all I want to use.
2) SL Santal Majuscule is all kinds of imitation maple syrup on me. This was a blind buy fail, big time. Sorry Serge, this one gets voted off the island.
3) I’d wind the clock back a month and go to Santa Fe to see the fall foliage, go to the O’Keeffe museum again and take some cooking classes. Hmmm, Five o’clock Gingembre would work.
Maple Syrup! Putting SL Santal Majuscule on my to try list. Not that I want to smell like Maple Syrup but my better half is Canadian and he may find that really really appealing !!
I hope it’s better on you…it’s really Quaker instant oats imitation maple on me. ????
I’m only 50 minutes from Santa Fe- I’ll meet you there! 😉
Oh, you are so lucky! It’s a special kind of beautiful out there.
1. I would add Chanel Gabrielle. I love it, and don’t care who knows ????????
2. Kick out Prada L’eau Ambree. Can’t smell it on me much, and what I can smell makes me sneeze. Probably time to donate.
3. I would go to Maryland for a visit with my Grandpa, who is 95. He’s a lovely individual, and I treasure the time we get together. Would wear Chanel Allure Edp.
I also love Gabrielle. Good choice.
Gracias!!
oh, he lives in the DC area, so would get some foliage there. Surrounded by evergreens where I live, ha
SOTD =’Arielle Shoshana EDP
…from decanting. All done and the packages are in various stages of getting completed.
Stopped by Target. What remained of Halloween stuff are 90% off. I’ll have to do something with a plush fox tail next year – can’t go wrong with $0.30. And Pumpkin Spice Oreos! It was not on sale and I am too cheap to buy it at $2.99. When it goes to half price, I will pounce!
I don’t mind the time change but it drives me nuts that there’s no consistency across the board!
H., this post cheered me up considerably!
Something about the incongruity of a 30-cent plush fox tail and a too-expensive package of Pumpkin Spice Oreos (an oxymoron in itself…) just made me laugh! Bargain hunting can be entertaining in so many ways. ;D
You do smell glorious in the Arielle Shoshana, of course.
Wearing Tauerville Amber Flash today.
The next bottle on my wish list is Twilly, will wait for some Nordstrom notes to buy though.
I have a pile of stuff to get rid of, including a few Bois 1920’s – I ended up with quite a few scents that veer too masculine for me now and need to sell but don’t have the energy right now.
The foliage wasn’t as good as usual in Montreal this year due to unseasonably mild temps, but hopefully next year will be better. So few days that have been cold enough for my favourite animalic incense bomb, Rundholz 3 April 1968.
