Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Diptyque Oyedo, which is just about enough havoc on its own.
Reminder: 10/20 will be Reeking Havoc Friday...in honor of Holly (who is frequently reeking havoc), wear as many perfume samples at once as you can stand. Suggested by FearsMice.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Imperial Palace [cropped] by Mike Murray at flickr; some rights reserved.
Warming up for tomorrow, I layered three scents (although only one of them is a sample). So I am wearing Tom Ford White Patchouli on my wrists, Estee Lauder Private Collection in the crook of elbow and Cuir de Lancome on the back of my neck. They work quite nicely together.
That really does seem like a good combination.
I am in AG Heure Exquise EdP (THANKS Hajusuuri!). It is so beautiful and I like it much more than de EdT that I have. It is more powdery, softer and has a better longevity. A full bottle will be mine very soon.
Last night I ordered Thai food and sprayed on Dzing with reckless abandonment. It was sooo good. I enjoyed Dzing like never before 😀
I was at the Bronx Zoo on Saturday and I passed by the camel rides and thought about what your husband said about Dzing! lol.
You smell lovely today!
Ha!!!! Did the camels smell to you like Dzing, at least slightly? 😀 😀 😀
Maybe just a hint of that smell in Dzing! Have you ever tried Slumberhouse New Sibet? That smells more like a pack of camels. I like that smell, though.
I also get some camel smell in Dzing. I have not tried New Sibet, but I will get a sample now. Probably, after smelling New Sibet, my husband will approve Dzing 😉
Haha! Good plan ????
Heure Exquise is such beautiful perfume – I’ll join you in wearing it today, thanks for the idea.
Do you know, how recent is your sample/decant? My bottle is about 5 y.o. and I wonder how much it has been reformulated since if anyone tried it recently.
I do not know how old my decant is. Hajusuuri sent it to me like 2 weeks ago, but it smells divine. Hopefully, she will chime in later when she reads the post.
I bought the edp within the last year or so and it’s gorgeous. Rich, almost chocolatey galbanum and florals; clear resemblance to no 19 at first and then warmer. I bought a backup bottle…
I got it 1.5 to 2 years ago. Maybe it is magical because the box was signed by Isabelle Doyen 🙂
Heure Exquise is such a beauty ????
It is indeed! ????
Mmmmm, lean in please. I’m glad you love it!
Fazzolari Feu Secret. Kevin’s Trudon review yesterday led me back to your brief review. Very nice with the weather we’re having… (And still have to try that Bruma.)
You smell fantastic! Kevin hates Bruma.
I’m wreaking quiet havoc with some Kuumba Made Oriental Musk, one spritz of The Body Shop Shea, and the last dregs of a sample of Prada Infusion d’Oeillet
I can almost smell you from here 😉
Micallef Rouge No. 1. What a nice vintagey (80s style) rose.
I acquired a mini of Micallef Rouge No 2 in the swapmeet and love it. It reminds me a bit of Putain des Palaces. I don’t know how related Nos 1 and 2 are, though?
I have both, one is sweeter/more gourmand than the other.
Naja today, from the splitmeet. This stuff is gorgeous!
on my wrists and neck, Hanami over Moab over Hepcat.
thank you wendysue for reminding me to dig out my Phlur samples.
and Robin I am laughing about what you said about Oyedo…my girlfriend and I each got a sample of it when we went sniffing for my bday last spring and all I could detect was the yuzu (first words out of my mouth when I smelled it in the boutique in GCT)…she loved it so much that she drained her sample and I had to give her mine.
She has good taste 😉
Kevin very kindly sent me a travel spray. Unless I am crazy, it is far smoother and cleaner than it used to be. Less sparkle. More citrus, way less herbs. Still a great scent but they’ve removed all the weirdness.
Comparing it to the dregs of my older Oyedo, which I have on the other arm, seems unfair because of the aging, but I think it’s been quite changed.
Oh, that’s too bad. I love Oyedo and don’t have any more.
Yes!!! that what I got! Lots of citrus…my childhood girlfriend of nearly 50 years is a perfume newbie (wore Gucci Envy for years and before that Dior Poison) so I am expanding her horizons…thus far she really likes the Annick Goutal line and Jo Malones…when we went to the F Malle boutique in Manhattan she got two free samples (En Passant and Eau d”Hiver)…she liked them both until she saw the price of full bottles -LOL!
I am wondering if the top notes of citrus are long gone from your vintage bottle which is why it smells different…the same thing happened to my vintage Cristalle.
You could be right, of course! But it isn’t at all like I remember it, and I thought that before I put on my old stuff.
Or, my sense of “weird” is now blunted by so much weirdness, LOL…so I can no longer recognize Oyedo as weird 🙂
“my sense of weird is blunted by so much weirdness”…..oh that is priceless! Luckily I have my own office as I am lmao right now 🙂 (and I just learned from my college CM8 what “lmao” means after she sent it to me in a email…I am so behind the times!)
It used to smell of sparkly citrus and earth.
Have you smelled it recently, do you agree it’s changed, or am I crazy?
I have not smelled it recently, but I have no doubt it has changed.
Thank you for the Phlur impressions. I applied more Hanami last night and “found” the fig.
How did they name the line? I associate Phlur with fleur, thank goodness, not phlegm 😉 .
Same here…I associate Phlur with the french word for flower and not phlegm either-LOL!
I also applied the Hanami last night to retest..still getting fig and hazelnut on my skin and with my wonky nose !
the three I am wearing today together are actually quite nice…I reads to my nose as a deep dark gourmand…tomorrow I may combine the other three from the line as I think they will go well together.
Yes, PHLUR is their phonetic spelling of fleur, a kind of inside joke, I guess.
Still at hotel with Ambre Narguile
2 sprays today since it’s cooler out
Go gone to my bottled children tonight
Yummy! Ambre Narguile is wonderful on a cool day.
I’m reeking noir today. One spray or swipe of the following. Black Opium, Black Orchid, Black Perfecto, Coco Noir, Noir de Noir, My Burberry Black, and Dark Horse.
Thumbs up!!! 😀
Thanks!
Wow! That’s power!
Sure is!
Oh my!
Or… Oh Dear, lol!
The Dark Scented Lady of NST! 🙂
Now I have Cher’s Dark Lady in my head:)
Awesome! Also, not sure if you saw my post the other day about BV. If you were wanting more, I’ve got plenty to spare. Pretsky 35 at hawt male
Thanks! I just emailed you.
BV?
Bottega Veneta
Ha!, it’s not as strong as it sounds. Unfortunately the My Burberry Black over powered most everything except Noir de Noir. Black Orchid had the tiniest swipe, as I can only tolerate it when the temp is below freezing.
Holy moly that’s intense
Oh wow, just wow. 😀
What a great idea, love it!
This is so full of awesome.
Wow! I’m in awe.
Lillyjo FTW!
SOTD is Kerosene Broken Theories, which (on me) is just a little too incense-smoky to wear to the office … but I’m working from home today so I thought I’d reek just a tiny bit.
Love that one, you smell great!
Ooooh that one is so great. Vinegar-based barbecue sauce on me. I love it.
I’m wearing Mary Greenwell Plum. Fruity delicious.
I love that stuff. It’s like a mango-topped cheesecake (fruity BWF) on the teeeensiest layer of French biscuit (modern chypre) ever.
Hello!
SOTD: Ambre Sultan.
It’s finally cool enough to wear this without smelling like a wild safari animal and suffocate everyone, myself included. I love this a lot but definitely season-restricted!
You smell wonderful!
You do smell great!
Ha – Friday’s community project is absolutely perfect for me. I reek havoc more often than not – at least on my own time (not so much at work). I’ll think of or read about a perfume and if I have it or something similar, on it goes. Later, I’ll add another and another. These tend to be primarily dabs or a very light spray so in the end, I don’t know that it’s as cacophonous as it sounds. However, they are often completely unrelated fragrances in notes as well as theme.
Today (so far) I am wearing Chanel No. 5 parfum and a spray of Carthusia Mediterraneo. And it’s not a bad combo!
Interesting, would not have thought of them together!
Reeking !
OJ woman on the wrists
Cuir de Nacre on the neck
Gourmandises on the upper arm
Sakura 2000 tea
Lipstick queen lippy
🙂
Love Woman- you smell great!
Happy Diwali to all my friends who celebrate!
We will be celebrating and the challenge for me today will be to try to get my toddler monkey into her sari!
May the gods be with me! HA!
The light in me honors the light in each and every one of you. Happy Diwali!
Happy Diwali! I wish you good luck with the toddler/ sari project – I hope she isn’t a wiggly monkey!
Happy Diwali! What a wonderful celebration.
Happy Diwali!
Happy Diwali! Enjoy your celebrations.
Happy Diwali! Little Monkey in a sari = adorable.
Enjoy! Children make celebrations extra fun.
On Tuesday I learned a simplified Dandiya Raas with 90 Kindergarten students. It was delightful.
We had a fun night and everyone wore their assigned outfits!
BABIES IN SARIS ARE THE CUTEST THING. Please consider posting a picture, or sending me a link to one via e-mail 🙂
Wearing Besos from Carner Barcelona today and am sort of wondering if I bought the right scent. I was at Twisted Lily on Tues and had a bunch of things up and down my arms and this doesn’t smell quite the same as I thought….
I’ve done that. Sometimes the scents overlap and then I’m not sure what’s what anymore.
I stopped buying perfumes when I mix them at the store. It is pretty confusing. I was disappointed a couples of times when I was not satisfied with my final purchase.
Reeking in Fumerie Turque,Amber Narguile, and POTL Luctor Et Energo. They were randomly picked from a sample set collection, but complement each other. AN is gorgeous. The FT is very comforting on a cold morning. Does anyone know if it’s been reformulated? It’s one I would add to my long wishlist if it’s like My my sample, which is a few years old.
Nice reek you’ve got going there.
+1 for Ambre Narguile!
Arquiste No. 57, Sweet and boozy! Wishing I had more than what’s left of my rollerball!
Ooo, just ordered a rollerball unsniffed. Can’t wait!
You won’t be disappointed!
What a great scent
You smell fantastic! I got two rollerballs (because the bottles were sold out by then), and I’m worried I don’t have enough!
I get it! I wish I bought the bottle but was trying to buy less at the time. Hindsight…
Reeking a little rose havoc today:
SL Sa Majeste la Rose dabbed on arms and neck, a small spritz of FM Une Rose on one hand, and a small spritz if LL Rose 31 on the other hand. The other 2 make the LL seem decidedly un-rosy. And even with my hand down, I can smell the FM.
That is a nice combo! All beautiful roses! You smell amazing.
Thank you!
I like the SL rose – I remember it as seeming very dewy and fresh, like laying in a bed of rose petals.
It’s fresher than the FM. It almost smells watery in the midphase.
The streets of new york smell like roses today!
Uh, oh. I’m hoping I don’t reek to anyone around me at work today.
I love everything you are wearing
I’m liking all of them, too. The LL is totally different from the others.
But the other 2 have more in common, but are different enough that I could see having both.
That all sounds gorgeous!
Vilhelm’s The Oud Affair today.
I see this one is sold out on Ari’s website, so I’m guessing it’s one of their more popular fragrances.
I can see why- it is rich and delicious. Even though it does not list the same notes as MFK’s Grand Soir, that’s what it reminds me of.
Wearing MFK Oud Satin Mood because I keep seeing instagram posts about it, and it got stuck in my brain.
It’s my last day in the office this week because we’re going to a friend’s wedding in Miami this weekend. Any suggestions for what perfume to wear to a formal, evening wedding in 85 degree, humid weather? My warm-weather perfume game has never been strong, so I’m oddly at a loss.
You could wear your SOTD? I think it would bloom nicely in the heat and probably wouldn’t overwhelm at night.
I hadn’t thought of it, but Oud Satin Mood would probably work beautifully, thanks!
I think that’s an amazingly beautiful scent. Wish I had more than a tiny decant of it! I agree with Elisa, don’t think it would be too overwhelming for the wedding if you apply lightly, maybe a few hours beforehand. Otherwise something more light and floral, maybe a gardenia scent of some kind?
Hi. I can send some if you are interested.
Wow, yes. I am cfreeland followed by four nines in the land of the yahoos.
That’s a good call. I think I’ll dig through my samples and find a white floral, just in case I need a backup for the MFK
SOTD is Nicolai’s Amber Oud because I was wishing that yesterday’s Luxor Oud had more oud. Didn’t get it though because today all I can smell is lavender.
Wear them both along with Tom Ford Oud Wood?
No havoc again – Encre Noire
Yum. Maybe I will reek vetiver tomorrow.
I have an unlit Oyedo candle that I can faintly smell. Didn’t know there was a bottled version. Can’t quite “picture” it, so to speak.
See my comment to chocolatemarzipan above — it’s mostly a fresh yuzu now.
Good morning Y’all…..
Getting my fall cozy on with ELdO Like This. It’s wearing a bit heavy with just one spray, but it will dry down at some point….
Good to know it’s heavier when sprayed. I have a dabber and it doesn’t project at all on me. You smell great!
Like This is an amazing-weird scent in the best way. Plus Tilda Swinton! I have only dabbed LT from a sample and can imagine how just one spray would be a wow!
Lili Bermuda Paradise. I have been sampling intermittently from my discovery gift set from Lili Bermuda, and Paradise is the one I have enjoyed wearing the most — so far. I have a few more from the set to try out still.
Reeking confused today – I thought I put on Incense Rose, but I swear that I’m smelling Noontime Petals. I’m not complaining because I smell great, but it definitely isn’t what I was expecting. Maybe I need to slow down when reading sample labels by dim closet lighting.
Lighting matters 🙂
SOTD is Fellanila over the remnants of SB Smoked Ambergris, which is lasting a good long time on my base layer.
I’m out of he loop because I have no service in the areas I camp in and can’t keep up regularly. Hope everyone is having a good week!
I like smoked ambergris. Hope your journey is going well…sounds like you are seeing some beautiful places
You smell great — enjoy the camping!
Reeking havoc in a small way: I’ve just applied sample of new l’occitane perfume ‘Terre de Lumiere’ over an autumn favourite, Caron’s Amez Moi. They mingle nicely together actually.
How is the Terre de Lumiere?
I’m in Prada Purple Rain… because I mentioned it in my comment yesterday when I was complimenting Robin’s sotd.
Now I’m gonna dig into a bowl of a creamy pumpkin soup I just made.
Oooh, I’d love some of that. What kind of a recipe do you use, any particular spices or other ingredients?
I usually go for some black pepper and lots of garlic, I just love garlic.
I would also add a bit of freshly grated ginger for that extra spiciness and warming effect when it gets colder.
Pumpkin is good for digestion as well.
Your soup sounds absolutely dreamy.
It’s definitely a comfort food 🙂
Went out to breakfast with coworkers this morning so I decided to keep it simple. I went with Hermes Vetiver Tonka.
Nom. For both breakfast and Vetiver Tonka.
Compensating for the reeking havoc of yesterday with
Iris nazarena
What a beauty!!! i am on my 2nd sample, almost empty…argh…
You smell wonderful.
Thank you 🙂
Its an iris scent that is right up my alley. I just looked up the price of a bottle…oh my…
A beautiful scent.
Ooh, I just got a sample of this and can’t wait to try it.
Finally the weather has cooled off here. I am in Edward Bess Spanish Veil.
You smell great.
After reading Robin’s AG vanilla perfume review and the comments, I wanted something gourmand and warm. I’m wearing PG Indochine. It’s pretty much the opposite of reeking. I think it wears pretty close to the skin, and I’m pleasantly surprised that it has more incense than I remember. This will be an easy office friendly choice this fall and winter.
Funny, I don’t think of Indochine as gourmand. I get mostly ginger and sandalwood with a tiny dab of honey. It leans a bit masculine on me as well but I love it! I guess it is technically a gourmand.
Yeah, the ginger and honey make it gourmand to me. And I haven’t worn it very many times, but I remembered it as one of those wood pudding types or close enough. It didn’t disappoint! It’s a decant I recently pulled out with a bunch of others as fall options.
Good morning, NST. I’ve been absent for a while, just very tired, slightly sick (nothing at all serious or even nameable; just off), sleeping very late, so no time to write in the morning before work, and then busy and forgetful. Some days I didn’t even get to read NST! !!! Anyway, I’m back today for a few minutes, with Eric purring ecstatically on my lap and the stripey joblets in riot mode around me. I’m wearing Rose Musc and a black frock. Why, might you ask, am I cuddling a bright white Siamese kitten on a black lap? What an excellent, but unanswerable, question. Will I be able to wear the dress to work today? Probably not. I’m examining today, and a furry white skirt probably won’t give the best impression.
The Rose Musc is lovely (and suits my dress, which I must now go and change ‘cos I’ll never get Eric’s fur off properly while I’m inside the garment; bother!). It’s a very sophisticated, altered rose, almost medicinal, somehow. I enjoy this perfume greatly: the musks aren’t sweet or clean, but rather deep and growly, and the rose is lean and wild, not a pretty, soft garden rose at all. I didn’t expect to find such a hefty perfume in such a pretty gold bottle, but I’m pleased I tried it. Even more pleased I bought it.
Must dash off madly in all directions. Be well, all.
That sounds like a fascinating scent.
Sounds like New Zealand needs masking tape lint rollers.
Making sliptmeet decants and doused in Iris Celadon x Bruma. Not reeking though, at least as far as i can tell 🙂
How is Iris celadon?
We have the Armani Privé line in our local department store now.
First one I tried was Bois d’Encens…yum.
Not that I was asked by Iris Celadon is amazing. I am going through the discovery of Armani Privee line and I am very impressed
Thanks for chiming in. 🙂
I also tried Vetiver d’hiver/babylone and one with a gorgeous blue cap (forgot the name)…. I am impressed as well, a designer luxury line that delivers (as far as i can tell of course,….will and must try a whole bunch more). 🙂
A very generous person sent me a sample of New York (it is Bergdof’s exclusive). The bottle is very tastefully done, and the juice, while pricey, is a very interesting Iris.
Re: new york
Lucky you, thats the white bottle right?
Iris is a note I love when dry, a bit austere and mysterious (thats why i love Iris nazarena…my sotd).
I admire and love to smell all the more classic powdery/romantic interpretations too, but too often they dont ‘fit’ me.
I love any iris 🙂 I wish more Iris came in Attar form, but other than Sultan Pasha, I have not seen any Iris based attars.
Re: sultan pasha
His attar Sohan is one of the cuddliest and best iris scents i have ever smelled and i may need more of it when my sample is gone.
🙂
(Ha! My remark above about prefering a certain type of iris is hereby nullified, i guess….and, I dont like Iris silver mist that much, its too cold…)
Iris Celadon has patchouli and chocolate notes- so not as austere or clear as, say, ISM or Bruma. It is defitely not a gourmand though.
I heard it is very similar to VC&A Moonlight Patchouli and I would agree, though I haven’t had the chance to do a side by side. I fell for Iris Celadon hard while I remember liking Moonlight Patchouli very much but not being instantly drawn to it.
Sounds good!
(Iris silver mist is a bit too cold/austere for me)
There’s Drama at work with a capital d and I am going to have to take a stand b/c it adversely affects me and makes no sense.
Wearing Songes EDP and preparing to reign down some fire like a Targaryen in a meeting this afternoon.
“Zaldrīzes buzdari iksos daor”….
A dragon is not a slave. ????
Oh, oh! It sounds tough. Good luck She-ra.
Songes + dragon = WIN 🙂
Best to you. Go get ’em!
I think this is the comment of the day.
Ha, there are multiple little dramas at my work that blow up into a major opera production about once per week. Amusing
Hope it goes well. Good luck!
Good luck in battle!
Thanks for all the support.
Meeting was had and message was delivered.
Outcome is pending.
Dracarys!
The weather has refused to turn autumn-like in my neck of the woods, but I’m trying out my new fall decants anyway. Today I’m in DSH’s Chinchilla and loving it. It’s probably a bit much in 90+ weather, but that’s global warming’s fault, not mine 🙂
After several weeks of having a caretaker government ( since the general election) we now have a new prime minister … A somewhat surprising outcome as we’ve got rid of the govt that has been in power for the past 9 years. So quite a bit of political havoc which has left me feeling more optimistic about the future….perfume havic in Santal Muscle ( had to leave that as it made me smile) . I had a fabulous border collie called Havoc. She had piercing blue eyes and was a soft grey and white and was funny and sweet natured. A friend took her for a walk one day and she got run over just in front of my house. He had her off the leash and she ran back across the road to get in our gate and I saw it happen in slow motion. She was a good dog though.
Laughing about the Santal Muscle, but you had me tearing up with your story about Havoc…so sorry you had to experience that. 🙁
Myy first cat died that way. Did not see it happen, but it felt so wrong and unfair, he was only 3 years old…
What a heartbreaking story. So sorry you had to go through that.
How awful about the loss of your dog. 🙁 I am glad you are pleased with the turn of political events.
Today testing Santal Majuscule. It was a mistake! Too masculine and I don’t think I will like it on a man either.
Have you tried Jeux de Peau? I find some similarities between the two
Not yet, but I’ m going too.
I do like this Santal Majuscule except for the cumin note which SL crams into so many of his scents. Although, I still love a fair number of Serge scents despite that note.
Last night I wandered through a DFS duty-free shop and sprayed myself with anything that caught my fancy. I had Coromandel on the left wrist, Black Perfecto on the right wrist, and Twilly in the crook of my elbow. The Twilly is still there this morning! I like a fragrance with longevity. I might have to get some of it when it eventually hits the discounters. It would be one of those “go anywhere, offend no one” scents in my cabinet.
I’m still working my way through the Olympic Orchids samples. Today will be Ballets Rouges, but after a dip in the ocean.
I sprayed Twilly on paper and it hung around for weeks. Nice lasting power there.
Dip in the ocean! Nice!
Ballets Rouges was the only OO sample out of about 7 that I really liked. I went through two samples and then bought a bottle when Doc Elly was undergoing a packaging change.
And the bottle smells weird, enough unlike my two samples that I don’t wear it. I don’t know why.
Sounds like a great duty free shop. I never find ones with that good a selection. They are usually too full of run-of-the-mill department store and celebrity scents.
Decidedly no havoc in Pichola today, which is so so pretty but does not really go with the dark and stormy weather.
Speaking of dark and stormy, wouldn’t that make a nice combo after the cocktail? Maybe there is something someone know of that features rum, ginger & lime?
Started out with a good spritz of Tocade. Then, what the heck, not working today so a little FM Une Rose, Rosine La Rose, MPG Rose Opulente, and PdN Rose Piovine from dabber samples. (Plus a small dab of Dame Earth Mother hair oil just because I couldn’t wait to test it out!)
A veritable garden of roses.
I LOVE that hair oil as well as the edp and the body cream..honestly I use the hair oil as a perfume oil as well as a body oil…Earth Mother is a soft diffuse skin scent on me…not too sweet..cozy and just right.
You out-rosed me today! Waft my way please ????
SotD = Oscar EdT by Oscar de la Renta
Typing that name makes me happy. I loved Oscar almost monogamously for more than a decade. I have an old bottle that smells slightly brown around the edges in the top notes then blooms beautifully. Not reeking havoc but could do with just a few big sprays of Oscar.
Now I’m off to wreak havoc in the garden. There are weeds to pull and potted plants that look thirsty.
I love that stuff. I have very powerful memories of smelling it in the 80s. I love the EDT, I love the parfum, and I love Esprit d’Oscar. Have you tried the Esprit? If not, I can send some your way. It’s a really nice modernization of the original that fully stands up on its own. I need to pull my bottle out – this is the best time of year to wear it.
And I have very powerful memories of wearing it in the late 70s and early 80s…it was definitely good stuff…haven’t sniffed it in ages and not sure if I want to….I know mals rants about Esprit and have considered a full bottle as it sells for dirt cheap online.
I have tried Esprit d’Oscar and it is gooooood. If ever I need a new bottle of Oscar I will most likely go with Esprit. 🙂
You smell lovely! i bought my first bottle of Oscar in the late 70s because I thought it was my ballet teacher’s signature scent which I adored (turns out it wasn’t and to this day I could curse myself for never asking her what she wore!)…nonetheless it was love at first sniff and I must have drained at least 5 or more bottles of it…a part of me does not want to sniff it again as I might become too nostalgic and melancholy…I was in high school when I wore it and a young waif with my whole life ahead of me (as opposed to the crotchety middle aged woman I am now 🙂 !!!)
thx, cm8! 🙂
I wonder if your dance teacher might have worn L’heure Bleue. To my nose it feels like Oscar is a descendant of LB.
Oscar, umm! Love the vintage stuff. My friend in highschool bought me a huge bottle for a birthday way back when. Brings back great memories! You smell amazing.
Sadly, the bottle I recently received from Fragrancenet was a more recent version. The bottle they pictured had the old school look that I remembered so I was a bit disappointed when I opened it. It smells ok, kinda perfumey; it’s just not vintage.
Oscar is memory in a bottle for me too.
A few fans of the old Oscar have commented here that they like Esprit d’Oscar better than the current version of Oscar. Might be worth a sniff for you.
Le Temps d’Une Fête for me today – a spring favourite. And I’m very cross to discover that my tablet no longer remembers all the perfume names I’ve typed over the last few years – upgrades don’t usually do that. Most annoying to have to type out Le Temps d’Une Fête from scratch 🙂
..and of course you also wanted to mention
“Hermann à mes côtés me paraissait une ombre”
😉
In Coromandel, so it must be winter. Yup, it’s winter.
I want some of your winter. We’re back to warm days, AGAIN.
SOTD is Heeley “Phoenicia”.
Notes are incense, labdanum, dates, raisin, oud, sandalwood, birch and vetiver.
So, I sprayed this on and thought, “Well, it’s a nice enough oud-and-rose combo, but I don’t need another one”. And then I looked up the notes and there’s not a drop of rose in it. This will be enough to warn true perfumistas off taking anything I say seriously, since I evidently can’t tell a rose from a date. :^)
So I’ll amend my initial thoughts to: it’s a nice enough oud-and-date, but I don’t need one. :^D
Heh. It’s an attractive oud and date; you smell great!
In the delicious cinnamonilla Organza Indecence today.
I am a “cinnamonilla” cousin in Phlur’s Moab 🙂
Wearing Mimosa & Cardamom today.
PSA: Jo Malone is bringing back in limited editions for Black Friday/Holiday Sweet Lemon and Ginger Biscuit. (I haven’t smelled either.)
Ginger Biscuit???? Oh boy, I am going to pretend that I did not read that just now 🙂
PSA for all Europeans here.
Grandiflora will be available in the Essenza Nobile shop in november. I have NO affiliation with the brand or the shop. But I thought it worth mentioning because so far it was hard to find in EU.
No reeking havoc for me today. Dentist visit for exam and cleaning, so just a spritz of California Rêverie. Need to decide if I want to just go ahead and have a filling replaced now or wait 6 or so months.
Besides, my husband did enough reeking for the week yesterday. He wanted to stop at Clyde’s for the sale. I think he sprayed five different things on himself – and I mean sprayed. We ended up at dinner at a favorite bistro nearby, where I made him go the restroom to wash some off. He then had escargot and steak. I had the couscous.
Thanks, all, for the anniversary wishes. He quite liked The Princess Bride and is now up to speed culturally. It was a big gap.
This made me giggle ???? I thouggt you were re-seeing The Princess Bride-surprised it was a first for your husband!
I know! What’s interesting is what you said about your husband loving it. Years ago, my company did a conference for those of us at mid-level. We had to fill out forms with some basic personal info that went into a book, so we could learn about each other. I was surprised by how many men put The Princess Bride as their favorite movie.
Did they up the percentage off yet? Or is it still at 40 at Cyldes?
Some of my diluted Stash oil under Ciel de Gum, a tiny decant I curse, as it’s all I want to wear these days.
;-(
I guess I’m semi reeking havoc?
Testing Zoologist Elephant on one crook, Dragonfly on the other. Loving both, Dragonfly is absolutely pretty and Elephant is a tranquil and personal experience.
I’m eager to try Elephant.
Today I’m wearing Serge Lutens Fleur de Citroniere (sp)
Song of the day = Robert Plant has some new music, and I’ve been hearing his song “The May Queen” a lot lately. It was an earworm all day yesterday.
SOTD = back in Midnight Fleur again. The drydown of this is so gorgeous in fall weather.
Robin, has there ever been a community project for perfumes with herbs in them? Like bay leaves, or sage?
I usually think of Midnight Fleur as a summer scent (because of the pineapple note) but I will most definitely give it a try in the cooler weather)
From hot at the start of the week back to crisp and cool. Taking advantage to wear Galop one more time while I can.
That is a Hermes I can do!
The rest don’t last on me
I will not be reeking havoc this week as I have been sick with a cold and am still hacking. Just finished a grueling drive from Montreal to San Diego for the winter and all I can handle right now is a small spritz of Ombre Mercure.
I hope you can rest now and hope you feel better soon!
Sorry to hear you’re sick. Welcome back to the Pacific!
Oy! Get well soon!
Feel better soon.
That’s one heck of a drive! I hope you can rest now.
Thank you all for the good wishes. It’s good to be looking out on le grand bleu pacifique again. I love montreal but I miss the ocean when I’m there. Both of the dogs are coughing too, so it’s off to the vets tomorrow. It sounds like a tuberculosis sanatarium here.
SL 5 O’Clock au Gingembre on this incredibly stressful and exhausting day. Why am I so stressed and exhausted? I don’t know. I have a lot of work, but that’s not all of it. Having to break in painful orthotics (that are supposed to alleviate the pain of what I am increasingly certain is a still-broken foot) surely isn’t relieving any stress.
The drydown of 5ocag smells a great deal like Tauer LADDM to me today. Am I delusional?
I’m sorry that you are in pain. I hope your docs can find a solution. At least you smell lovely. I own both scents and have never thought of them as similar. LdDM is dry, aromatic, green Amber. Five O’Clock is Earl Grey tea, honey, cinamon and ginger cookies. Both are excellent!
Earl Grey! I agree with all the notes but that one 🙂 and LADDM has no green at all on me. I also had never found them similar before today, which is why I think I might be going crazy! And thank you.
So sorry your foot pain is still ever present.
Re: PSL. I read too much about last year so here goes —
“PSL” was trademarked by Starbucks so referring to a non-Starbucks sourced pumpkin spice latte as PSL is wrong. The original PSL did not contain any pumpkin at all. After complaints from customers, Starbucks begun adding real pumpkin to the PSL syrup as of a year or two ago. I taste-tested pumpkin spice latte from Wegmans, Dunkin Donuts and Nordstrom. None of them were up to par with PSL.
Oh how interesting! Haha, I wonder why people were complaining! I love pumpkin spices more than I like pumpkin. And now I know not to try out any of those PSL fakers.
I bought a pair of Birkenstock sandals because everyone raved about how comfortable they were and how good they were for your feet. Worst torture devices I ever wore, painful as hell. I gave them away after three attempts to “break them in”. I sympathize with your pain and hope you can get a proper treatment asap.
I worked a ten-hour day without breaks. I’ve been too busy to wreak havoc this week. My SOTD was Kiss Me Tender. I really enjoy this vanilla-almond hay with a hint of anise. It’s very comforting during crazy busy days at work.
This sounds really good. I had lunch at 3:45.
It’s crazy. At that point, you might as well skip lunch and wait until dinner. I did that yesterday. I work through lunch most everyday and rarely take a break but I normally leave after 8 hours. I know you’ve been working long days as you are often the last to post your SOTD. ????
SOTD = Dior Addict Vintage
From a lovely NSTer! I noticed a pattern – I have been wearing perfumes that could reek havoc more easily than others if I were to be more heavy-handed. This os one is a vanilla-bomb in the best sense of the term!
vanilla bomb sounds really nice!
You smell gorgeous!
I can’t imagine how good the vintage is. It sounds wonderful!
You smell lovely. Sorry you’ve been too busy to eat at work!
You smelled amazing!!! i bought Addict when it first came out and I drained that bottle quickly! Vintage is the best!!!!
SOTE is LL Jasmine 17 on one side and LL Santal 33 on the other. Three sprays of each; the Jasmine is winning in projection.
Thursday SOTD: Oeillet Sauvage. Friday? Who knows?
