4160Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 29 July 2016 51 Comments

Wildwood, NJ

If you love beachy fragrances, you’re spoiled for choice these days. If you want Coppertone, CB I Hate Perfume’s At The Beach 1966 has you covered. If your idea of sunscreen is a bit more sophisticated than that, there’s Parfums de Nicolaï Musc Monoï or Bond no. 9 Fire Island or Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess. If you want to smell more like flowers and less like sunscreen — maybe your ideal beach is ringed by the manicured gardens of a tropical resort? — there’s Guerlain’s Terracotta Le Parfum. If you want the beach and nothing but, there are too many aquatics to list, but I’m partial to Comptoir Sud Pacifique’s Aqua Motu. If you want the sunscreen plus the beach, there’s always (duh!) Bobbi Brown Beach. If you want the sunscreen plus the beach plus the treats from the boardwalk, try Bond no. 9 Coney Island, or my preference and the subject of today’s review, What I Did On My Holidays, from the UK indie brand 4160Tuesdays.

Luckyscent tells us that “What I Did On My Holidays takes aim squarely at the real smells of a boardwalk-laced English holiday area: the kind full of chip shops, clanging arcade rides, and blissfully happy families.” Turns out the boardwalk-laced holiday areas in the new world aren’t all that different from the old…

Pantone Limpet Shell and Peach Echo

Happy Huesday on Friday! Our community project for today (with apologies to the Pantone haters): wear a fragrance inspired by Limpet Shell (“A shade of aqua that leans toward the green family, Limpet Shell is clear, clean and defined. Suggestive of clarity and freshness, its crisp and modern influences evoke a deliberate, mindful tranquility.”) and/or Peach Echo (“The fashion and design communities, and consequently, consumers, have been in love with orange for several seasons. Coming to the fore this Spring is, Peach Echo, a shade that emanates friendlier qualities, evoking warmth and accessibility. It is an all-encompassing, tempered companion in the playful orange family.”) Huesday was suggested by TheGoddessRena and Olenska.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I went with Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu but I’m not entirely happy with my choice…

4160Tuesdays Sunshine and Pancakes & Centrepiece ~ fragrance reviews

pancakes

If we live until we’re 80, we have 4160 Tuesdays. That’s all. Let’s not waste them.

I’ve waited too long to try some fragrances from 4160Tuesdays. That’s strange, because I’ve been a fan of Sarah McCartney since she was LUSH’s copywriter and head of brand publications (seriously, I still own some tattered circa-2003 issues of the “LUSH TIMES”) and I’m drawn to independent fragrance houses that combine humor with a poetic sensibility. One reason: 4160Tuesdays isn’t available in any brick-and-mortar shops in New York. Another: the brand’s explanation of its name makes me feel a bit nervous and sad (and mortal).

This summer, I’ve finally seized the day and ordered a few samples of 4160Tuesday scents. My first pick, just because of its name, was Sunshine and Pancakes…
