Happy Friday! It's also Jane Austen's birthday. Our community project for today: wear a sandalwood fragrance, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Diptyque Tam Dao.
Reminder: 12/23 will be Just Finish It Friday — finish a sample or decant you’ve been hanging onto for a long time, OR wear from a precious bottle that’s getting low. Big bonus points if you finish a bottle! (Suggested by Elisa)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

FRIDAY! THANKS YOU ARRIVED! Wearing 10 Corso Como. Today this is working beautifully for me. The incense note is amazing and roses are very satisfying. I will need to reapply a couple of times, since it is very fleeting on me. Ready to face the crowds this weekend to do my holiday shopping and trying to brainwash myself that I don’t need to incur in any perfume spending for me. Not so sure if I will survive…
You smell great!
hey twin, we smell great don’t we.
Its very fleeting on me as well
SotD: Santal 33 which I know I have tried since my sample is about half gone, but I don’t remember. So far so good–it smells like a bit Luten’s Santal de Mysore with a bit of Cuir de Lancome and a dash of turpentine.
S(ip)otD: MF American Breakfast Tea with some almond milk.
It is not bad but I have to try it again every so often to remember it myself, and still sort of shocked that it’s so widely worn.
in NYC especially.
I can’t tell you how many times I have smelled it on people in the streets, in central park, worn by both sexes
Lovestosmellgood – did you see this article on LL Santal 33? Apparently it has a cult status of sorts.
https://fashionista.com/2017/12/le-labo-santal-33-perfume-cult
Turpentine is good! But I do love odd/unusual notes in perfumes.
10 Corsco Como
Yay for Corso Como! You smell great!
Thank you! I love your gravatar
Oh, thank you!☺️It’s the view of our beautiful Capitol from the infamous State Street (Wisconsin).
Hi twin! We smell great for sure!
We do!
I’ve realised that although I love sandalwood in fragrance, I don’t own any sandalwood soliwoods – at least not a full bottle of anything. I could have worn a sample of Tam Dao or Santal 33, but in the end went with Trayee. It is said to have Mysore sandalwood and I simply enjoy immensely.
I have perfume envy! I could have worn Trayee, but I forgot about it!
Trayee is so nice.
You smell wonderful.
I considered wearing Trayee but it’s a little too cold for me for this perfume – so I went with a “warmer” Samsara instead. But Trayee is such a beautiful perfume!
The incomparable Heure Exquise, which I blind bought many years ago, and still adore to this day.
Happy weekend everyone!
Mutual adoration here, and have a good Jane Austen birthday Austenfan!
Thanks, I completely missed that little bit of information on first reading this post. I’ve just started rereading a very good introduction to Persuasion. I think she would have enjoyed HE as well.
U smell beautiful, one of my absolute favourites, thanks to Hamemelis, – I forgot about today’s project, but would have worn this one had I remembered.
Thanks, I’m wearing my favourite combination of the dry oil and EDP.
Nice.
Wonderful choice!
I loved your cybernetic lavender in yesterday’s post about Lush.
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Heure Exquise is a great scent.
🙂
He he!
Such a lovely scent.
I can never make up my mind which Goutal is my favourite, but HE is certainly in my top 3.
Successful blind buys are the bomb!
Plus I’m generally good at them.
Mysore Sandalwood essential oil
LOVE Jane Austen 🙂
Twins, that is, April Aromatics Bohemian Spice, which has a lovely sandalwood note, layered with Abdes Salaam Mysore Sandalwood essential oil (from a tiny sample, may wear it next Friday too).
OOh! Nice!!!
Don’t you also sometimes wish we could smell each other? Everyone smell so gorgeous today!
Oh gosh yes!!! wouldn’t that be great????
LOVE your avatar(s)! They constantly make my mouth water????
I’ve never smelled a sandalwood EO, but I’m quite certain you smell fabulous!
They are cupcakes from the bakery in NYC called Magnolia’s (made famous by Sex and the City)…I have been perusing all the photos my younger family members have taken over the years and am amassing a collection of food photos…yup, they make me hungry too!
and hoping my parents bring more chocolate covered marzipan from Aldis so I can take a picture of that too!!!
Want!!
I was at Aldi’s last week and looked longingly at the chocolate marzipan logs but I stopped short of buying one for myself.
I knew it – Magnolia cupcakes…from the pastel frosting with a dent in the middle to the sugar daisy! The best cupcake I had from Magnolia’s is strawberry shortcake. And the banana pudding – OMG!
Very late but couldn’t help commenting on how much I love the banana pudding. I always get stop and get it when I visit.
Green with envy over your Mysore sandalwood oil! It’s become so hard to find anything that smells like the sandalwood I took for granted fifteen years ago.
I have a very small vial of it gifted to me by Laurie of SSS several years ago…I really cherish it….
but check out the Vitacost sandalwood…it is diluted in a carrier oil but if you look at the botanical name I am pretty sure it is mysore…..
Jeux de Peau, delicious baked goods arranged on a sandalwood table. It might be my favourite Lutens: top five, for sure.
Gorgeous smell! I think this one’s an under-appreciated Lutens.
Interesting choice. I own it but didn’t realize it had sandalwood. I’ll have to re-sniff.
Love this one, should wear it in the next day or so.
One of my favorite cool-weather comfort scents! I hadn’t thought of it for sandalwood week, but your description is spot-on.
Nobile 1942 Anonimo Veneziano – a warm embrace of labdanum, patchouli and sandalwood.
Tam Dao is a great woody scent, though I get more cedar and cypress from it than sandalwood. Fortunately, I like all these woody notes.
That sounds lovely. I will see if I can sample it.
Twins with Robin in Tam Dao, but with a bit of Philosykos layered over the top to remind me that there is warmth somewhere! Have to brave the ice in our neighborhood to get to the sanded main streets, and am NOT looking forward to that.
Hey twin! Darned cold here too, luckily no more than the barest dusting of snow, almost gone. Good luck driving!
Thanks! The drive to the office this morning was horrendous, but the drive back home (at roughly 1 p.m.) was not so bad (until I got to my driveway where sun never shines). Now that I’m safely back home I think I’ll go spritz on a little more Tam Dao. Serenity Now! 😀
I am not looking forward to that kind of weather, but we’ll get it eventually. Glad you made it home to peace!
I’m wearing SL Santal Mysore. I kinda smell like a buttery curry pastry.
In a good way, I hope!
Yes, thankfully, in a good way. 🙂
Hmmm…you can sit next to me.
Dries van Noten, even if it’s not a typical sandalwood scent (how would you call those, “soliwoods” as opposed to “soliflores”?)
Solilignae?
Solibois?
Ha, I like that!
Haha!U coined a new NST-slang,I’m prrrrretty sure about it!
Twins! I also chose Dries van Noten. It’s “dress to impress” day at my school for the holiday assembly, and I thought that Dries would be a perfect “classy lady” scent to go with my spiffy self. Although I love it so much I would also regard it as perfect to wear with jeans and a hoodie.
Today is the last day before the winter break. This teacher is very grateful to be able to recharge over the next two weeks.
Dries! Still considering the travel size…you smell absolutely superb!
Quadruplets? Hoping this one will warm me up.
Me too! Just wearing the body butter for now before yoga class, will add some actual spritzes when I get home.
I think my sample of Dries van Noten might have gone off — I remember loving it, but the last two times I’ve tried it it just smelled…wrong. But I recall a gentle, airy amber full of ginger cookies and fine tea.
I’m in one of my favorite cheap thrills, Smell Bent’s Bollywood or Bust. Roses, sandalwood, and spices.
Nice — and do love that name.
I wore that one last week,I was ready to star in a Bollywood movie!
I am in BorB today too. I realized I really like it if it’s undersprayed, i.e. just one spritz. Thank you, Office Perfume Grump! During my Summer Underspraying Project, I found out that I prefer a light application of Patchouli 24 too. Already knew less was more for Chinatown…
Showered with Rad Soap Co. Toke soap (vanilla and sandalwood). I really like their soaps and they’re pretty reasonably priced. I also have Man Up which is a rich cedar and amber. Wearing Egoiste today.
You are naughty! Of course I had to look up Rad Soap Co….Toke sounds great and so does Venice…and the rollerballs look appealing to!
I think they’re naturals, but not sure. I saw the rollerballs on the website! Tempting! And so are the cupcakes in your avatar????
LOL! From Magnolia’s in the city 🙂
I love Magnolia!
Today will be Vol de Nuit first and Oscar later. A bit of sandalwood under lots of flowers, these perfumes make me feel grown up.
Beautiful photo at the top of today’s post. I have a small picture frame carved from sandalwood that smells divine. It was brought back from India when my friend Arti went there to be married many years ago.
Everyone enjoy a safe and warm Friday.
Oscar!!! Fabulous!
Ooh, you smell great! Vol de Nuit and Oscar are both lovely.
Lush Smuggler’s Soul for me which is my only sandalwood prominent full bottle.
This one is nice! I gave my husband a bottle and every time he wears it I start wondering what’s smelling so good.
It is very nice. It really does smell like some of the soaps they sell at the Indian shops.
Great choice!
I’m certainly happy with it. I find it more polished than other Lush perfumes, like Gorilla perfumes meets Chanel.
Wearing Amouage’s Dia Woman…..a rich, warm scent on a chilly FREEZING morning! Brrrrrrrrr
Sandalwood is in Dia’s mix, but I can’t pick it out, really. Amouage does such a good job of blending that all I pick out is the orange oil…
Stay warm and cozy!
Dia is gorgeous, the sandalwood in this turns powdery and soft. Beautiful scent!
I love Dia
You smell amazing!
I love Dia, and it was one of the contenders for today’s project, but I decided against it just for the reason you’ve stated: I cannot pick out sandalwood in it.
Bois des Iles. A popular choice this week.????
Any reports on the new EDP vs the EDT?
I have not even tried the EdT since it went into the Exclusifs collection, but hope everybody knows the 15 ml Parfum is still “only” $200, which strikes me as a better deal that the 75 ml EdP for $185.
But I suppose I should keep my mouth shut until I go try the EdP, if I ever do.
Wow that is shocking! Because I think when the exclusives first came out they were sold in the 200ml size for around $180, right?
That sounds right.
I’ve seen that on their website and wondered if the parfum would be a better value overall. I find the EDT beautiful but fleeting.
It is certainly worth trying both.
And here I thought Chanel increased prices on everything every year! The Parfum had been $200 for the past at least 2 years. Maybe it’s time to load up before the price increases!
I so want a FB of Bois des Iles! You smell fantastic!
Me too! in the parfum
What are your thoughts on the parfum vs the EDT? …and have you tried the new EDP?
Twins!
Hey twin!???? We smell elegant and beautiful!
Wearing some vintage Samsara. This is a funny scent, because I’m never sure if I like it. I did, however, get a compliment this morning… but given how little Samsara I’m wearing, I’m almost certain what the guy was smelling was actually a waft of something fresh and fruity and watery that engulfed us both at that very moment. I’m now troubled to think that some stranger somewhere thinks I smell like melons…
Happy Friday everyone!
I have to be in the mood for Samsara, myself, though I do like it. Sounds like you were scent-bombed!
I adore Samsara.
Its in my top ten.
Its blends very well with my skin and I feel like a goddess when I wear it.
I’m wearing an old bottle of Samsara EDP as well!
Amouage Lyric from a sample. Got some vintage Vol de Nuit lined up for later. I’m loving my Mysore Sandalwood soap more and more. It lingers on skin for ages!
Tell me about your soap
It was actually a recommendation from someone here at NST! Mysore sandalwood soap from Amazon, which costs a couple quid and is wonderful. Makes my bathroom smell of sandal
You smell wonderful! I love Lyric. I haven’t smelled vintage VdN, but I bet it’s fabulous.
I got over my fear (brought on by previously overspraying this one) of sandalwood enough to wear Champagne de Bois today. I’ve already gotten a compliment! The sillage on this one is positively nuclear. One tiny little spritz at 6:30 this morning, and I’m still half asphyxiated 4 hours later.
Champagne de Bois, duh!
Oops. That was meant to go in a separate box. I was going to write that you smell like a hug, Mexican hot chocolate, and a sun-warmed spot on a hard wood floor (where the cat sits to savor life).
Mmm.
Wow! Your description sounds so much better than the actual perfume smells (imo). I wanna wear your description for sure.
I love this perfume, but it may be the only perfume I own that hands down would be better dabbed than sprayed. There’s definitely some sort of ambery accord in the base of several of Laurie’s scents that can be cataclysmic if over applied.
Okland- i agree…i kind of wish that Laurie would not have stopped selling the splash bottles…because honestly in perfume strength they might very well be better off dabbed…
I can’t reply to your comment on the next level, but I want to agree with you about dabbing Laurie’s perfumes. Actually, I’m even working now on a post about it! 🙂
Please let me know when your post when it is up. Dabbers unite!
yes, undina, I am curious about your post too 🙂
SSS are perfume concentrate…hence the killer sillage!
I know that..*now*. But it was definitely a learning experience. The very first time I tried this scent (my first SSS scent) I had no idea, and was feeling extravagant. Blithely sprayed on 6 spritzes. I reeked of sandalwood for days, my clothes reeked for months. I just don’t love sandalwood that much. Haven’t been able to go near this specific perfume for ages.
Whoops! That sounds like something I would do, too. I’ve gone overboard with Tauer L’air du Desert Morocain out of a sample vial, that was intense. Good reminder to take it slow! *Scribbling note to self because I can’t be trusted to learn my lessons*
LOL! wow!!!! six sprays????
That reminds me of when I knocked over a bottle (mine) of L’Artisan Mechant Loup onto the marble floor of my parents’ guest bedroom in their condo in Galveston. It was one of the big bottles, too. That scent remained for several months and I could not quite ever get back to it!
6 sprays?!! And you lived to tell that?!! Wow! 🙂
OMG. I only wore a tiny drop and it got an instant and final ixnay from Mom. Come to think of it, I think it was my very first freebie giveaway!
Twins! My bottle has matured into something magnificent, so rich and deep, but yes, nuclear if sprayed too heavily.
Thank goodness it’s Friday – it’s been quite a long and hectic semester!
I’m wearing vintage Guerlain Samsara extrait today, wafting loads of velvety sandalwood and green jasmine/ylang ylang.
Wow- that sounds just lovely!
I’m wearing Samsara as well (though an EdT, 6-10 years old – not a vintage, but not the latest batch either).
BTW, you have just a couple of days left to claim your prize and send me your shipping address 😉
Hi Undina,
I just sent my address to you, many thanks, you just made my day!
🙂
Bourbon French Kus Kus.
Its warm and spicy powder, powdered sugar and soft sandalwood. I bought this in the New Orleans French Quarter last month. The sales lady at Bourbon French Parfums said they have been producing this scent since 1843.
Today is my daughter’s college graduation. Big day today for her. Graduation is for 3pm, and dinner afterwards for family and close friends. Chargrilled oysters–yum!!
I have that! I bought it in New Orleans a couple of years ago, and I I really like it.
Congrats to your daughter! That IS a big day.
Oh how lovely — congratulations to Barqs’ daughter!
So exciting for you and your daughter! Congratulations!
Congratulations to your daughter! She has accomplished something wonderful, and I hope she is really proud of herself. Enjoy your oysters!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to your daughter! Enjoy your evening celebrating!
Congrats to your daughter!
Congrats on her milestone!
Congratulations to your daughter! And Kus Kus sounds lovely, like a sandalwood beignet. 🙂
Nice! Congratulations!
Congratulations to both daughter for the hard work and mum for the support.
Congrats on having a new college graduate in your family!
Happy Friday Everyone! Also, Happy Ugly Christmas Sweater Day for all that participate.
My SOTD is the only sandlewood fragrance that I own (that I’m aware of); Santal Blush by Tom Ford. This is my favorite TF fragrance. Well, off to physical therapy and going to attempt to pick up a few more things for Christmas gifts. Have a good weekend everyone!
Edit: sandalwood
Sorry!!! 🙁
Ooh Santal Blush is gorgeous, I make a bee line for that one in my local department store, and spray liberally, it stays on fabric for ages, and is so nice smelling it on my coat days later.
My favorite TF as well. So good. Happy shopping & weekend!
Forgot a bout Friday project today, and wearing Fille en Aiguille, one of my winter favourites. I’ve spent much of the afternoon printing out my Lino cut for Christmas cards, and I’m feeling really good about being immersed in an art project for the first time in ages. It’s hard and sometimes frustrating work printing them out by hand, but I know I will feel a real sense of achievement once they’re all done!
Good for you! Have not done a project like that in ages myself.
Thanks!, it’s really hard to find the time, but I feel like it brings out a really positive part of me, when I do.
Oh, reminder for Jane Austin fans in UK, dramatisation of Northanger Abbey coming up on Radio 4, I think next week.
Oh, I love Northanger Abbey! It was the first Austen novel I ever read, and it made me laugh out loud. Enjoy it!
You smell wonderful — a winter favorite of mine, too!
It’s hard to beat, isn’t it?, I always think of Hansel and Gretal, since reading Victoria’s review, very evocative fragrance.
SOTD is Serge Lutens “Santal de Mysore”, current formulation. Notes are sandalwood, caraway, spices, benzoin and styrax.
5 more days!
you smell great, that is a good one.
I also loved his Santal Blanc
Scent twins! I don’t know what formulation I have, though.
SOTD is vintage Guerlain Samsara. It is the extra bit of oomph I need to persuade myself I can brave 11’F and mounds of snow :D…..
Stay warm.
Its cold here but no snow for us, yet.
You smell very nice.
Hello Twin!
If it wasn’t Tam Dao, my other choice for today would’ve been Samsara, another love of mine 🙂
Hey, we are triplets (so far)!
Decided on Tom Ford Noir Extreme, it claims sandalwood in the list of notes… TGIF! 🙂
It’s beautiful and very creamy in the drydown!
I almost wore Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme as the notes list includes sandalwood but I have never detected it myself.
Happy Friday, guys!
Am wearing Black Jade, which has a sheer, creamy sandalwood grounding the scent. Lovely, lovely, lovely. Surprisingly perfect for an icy day!
I love Black Jade!
Who makes that?
Lubin
I am not participating with Blacks Club Leather by Shay & Blue. I kind of wanted though to revisit Samsara, I used to wear it ages ago, when I still perceived fragrance as a whole and not as a collection of notes.
I like your comment about how you used to perceive fragrance as a whole. So true for me also. I like finding the notes, but I liked how i used to perceive it as well. Hmmmm. Maybe I can work toward being able to do both.
Kenzo Kashaya, my most recent addiction, which gas a nice, discernible sandalwood note in the base. Have a great weekend, NST!
I’m sure you smell great!
I ordered a sample of Kashaya because of your raving!
Jumping on this sandalwood bandwagon with Santal Carmin
Oh I like that one..you smell good !
Great choice!
I thought of borrowing this one from my vSO but then decided that I had enough choices among my own perfumes 🙂
Ooh, I have to haul mine out!
First time joining the community project in Safran Troublant, enjoying my sandalwood blended with saffron, rose and vanilla. Yum!
Hello and welcome, and you smell fantastic!
Ooh, you smell great.
Great choice! Maybe I’ll put some on before I go to bed.
I’m at work wearing Hilde Soliani Untitled No. 7: citrus, vanilla, sandalwood. It’s exactly as the notes make you think it would be.
However, I wish I were out for a coffee with a friend and running Christmas errands in Theorema.
I will definitely be in Theorema more than once over the next week.
I’m wearing SL Santal Majuscule. Since we’ve finally gotten chilly weather, it’s a joy to wear this warm, cozy scent.
I like the warmth of this scent. I should wear it soon – while the weather permits.
Hi Allyson! Isn’t it a delight in the cold? It’s only 15 degrees here and imo it’s beautiful on the crisp air. It radiates a warm rose and gold sandalwood comfort.
Sandalwood is one of my favorites. I am enjoying seeing people’s choices. I doused myself with Tam Dao this morning, then oversprayed with Fragonard Santal, a lovely light floral sandalwood cologne… It makes me happy to think of something many people wafting this salutary scent into the winter air…
I didn’t think I’ll participate in today’s community project until I saw a comment from JadainGA- thank you for the hint! I am in Amouage Gold, since it has sandalwood in the base, good thing I can’t single it out, it is so well blended.
Normally I loathe sandalwood and it hates me back. It either registers on me as dirty socks (Samsara, Shalimar) or simply bothers me to the point where I want to scrub it off my skin ASAP.
Too bad… I wish I could wear Box of Eels, Santal Blush and Taklamakan. Sigh…
Wonder how you would fare with real sandalwood oil…some people don’t react well to synthetic sandalwood but get on fine with the real essential oil….
Thank you for suggestion chocolatemarzipan! I will try real sandalwood eo, but will postpone my purchases until next year. Do you know where I can get a real thing in small amount? I probably don’t need more than 1 ml.
By the way, I love your new avatar, but I miss old one a lot (cookies/owl)- a piece of art!
Eden Botanicals sells sample sizes of all oils…you could also try their sandalwood sampler pack which has a variety of sandalwood e.os…
I am sure I will go back to my “edible owl” eventually but right now I am having fun changing the avatars and keeping all NSTers on their toes 🙂 !!
LOL! Count me in! I am salivating from looking at your pics 🙂 Have you tried white chocolate and coffee bar from Aldi? Highly recommend!
If you collect votes, I’m joining mine for the return of the “edible owl”! The current one isn’t bad, mind you, but it’s not every day you come across something that unintentionally creates the same illusion for many people.
I’d add that Eden also has a sandalwood absolute that smells amazing. It’s a little thicker consistency than the essential oil.
Thank you! I am taking notes!
I will second that…out of all the sandalwoods eden carries that one was always my favorite…it is sweeter and more unctuous….unfortunately it has been out of stock for a while 🙁 and I am not sure if they are going to bring it back…but it might still be available in their sandalwood sampler pack…..I used the powder sandalwood that is in the sampler in a “lipgloss” I made with non-petroleum “jelly” that I got in the health food store…the powder sandalwood imparts a nice dark nude pigment and the jelly is shiny enough to pass as a gloss…plus both are great for your lips!
http://www.edenbotanicals.com/products/sampler-packs/sandalwood-sampler-pack.html
here we go!
ooo..thanks for the rec! My parents bring the Aldi stuff up during the holidays…I am going to tell them to look for the white chocolate and coffee bar and bring that too!
Thank you for the link- I saved it on my laptop and enjoy your goodies from Aldi!
I love sweets as well, but prefer either to bake myself or to get something from Trader Joe’s, particularly I enjoy Raspberry Tarte- super Yum! Chocolate is another story- to fight my addiction I asked my DH not to buy any bars for a while, I just can’t stop!
Oh, I just think Gold is the most classy scent of all of theirs! Love it!
Agree! I tried more than half of their offerings and Gold is by far the most elegant, complex, grand…(insert your own definition) scent. It’s been on my to buy list for about 3 years. I am thinking about buying a travel spray set and splitting it on the next splitmeet.
You smell exquisite! Gold definitely is well blended–like, immaculately so.
Sandalwood generally doesn’t work for/on me, either. So there are many great scents like Box of Eels I won’t ever bother sniffing if I have to buy a sample instead of trying in person, from a tester.
Thank you Creosote! A sample of Box of Eels was sent to me by SA from Nordstrom flagship store along with several other Exclusiffs. I learnt not to purchase samples of fragrances heavy on sandalwood, patch or leather- complete waste of money.
Ormonde Jayne Woman for me today. It sort of counts for the theme and is absolutely gorgeous on this cold clear morning!
Gorgeous!
Love that one, you smell great!
Nice!
It is blustery cold, super windy for us so FM- l’eau hiver felt good because it had winter in the title.
Brrr. I am ready for summer already.
Tam Dao! SO glad I got a bottle this year. Sandalwood week was pretty easy, it’s one of my favorites. Last night I threw on some Iris Poudre cause it went with my outfit, but realized it has a sandalwood base … can’t get enough even without trying 😉
Ha! Yesterday, I was surprised that Bvlgari Black has sandalwood – hat tip to Creosote!
While looking for perfume to wear today I ran a search in my database and was amazed how many perfumes had sandalwood in the base, where I didn’t even suspect!
When I looked at Fragrantica, I did not recognize 99% of the perfumes listed!
Cold here but no snow; we’re supposed to get either ice or freezing rain tomorrow YIPPEE (not). Wearing Samsara parfum – don’t know how old it is since I bought it off teh ‘bay, but it’s in that little micro-mini red glass bottle with the gold stopper top. Niiiiice.
(Up top, it always always reminds me of the long-gone Revlon Xia Xi’ang, which I was wearing my senior year of college and on our college choir’s trip to Poland, then-Czechoslovakia and Austria. So – Samsara makes me think of that wonderful two weeks of my life. I don’t know why I don’t wear it more often.)
The big news today is that Gaze received a nomination from our Senator’s office to the USMA at West Point! He still has to finish the application process and pass the DODMERB (physical) exam, but it’s a big hurdle successfully jumped. I was surprised, because I thought he *might* get a recommendation from our Congressman, whom we know personally, but it actually came from Sen. Warner’s office.
First, Samsara is gorgeous you smell like a goddess.
Second, AH-mazing news! Good luck and I am sure the physical exam will go well!
Wow – that’s amazing news! Congratulations to Gaze.
OMG!!! Xia Xiang!!! I forgot I had that one!!!! Drained a bottle and kept it for years as I really liked that bottle but eventually threw it out 🙁 Wish I hadn’t!
Congrats to your son!
Such great news! You mus be really proud!
Wow, congrats and good luck on the rest of the process.
Congrats to Gaze!
Shiva! Beautiful photo once again!
SOTD is PdE Musc Tonkin. So warm and cuddly. Still upset that I didn’t get a bottle of the extrait when it was available.
I have an offer on a cargo van, so hoping I get it! I have plans to turn it into a camper van with solar to use for cross country travel and I’m totally psyched about it! It will take me a few months to build it out and I really hope I didn’t bite off more than I can chew. I won’t mention the fact that I don’t even own a drill at this point. I think I can, I think I can…!
You totally can do it! But I hope you have friends with tools so you don’t have to buy them all – that would cut deeply into the Grand Soir fund.
Well, thanks to Hajusuuri, I have a 15ml decant of GS from a swap we just did. I would of course love a full bottle but I’d also like to be 30 years younger and 30 pounds lighter????
and I would like to be 20 years younger and a few pounds heavier -LOL!
I’m sending 20# to you via UPS- be on the lookout for it and Jappy Holidays! ????
Ummm, that would be “HAPPY” ????
Haha! I love watching the Tiny House shows and there had been a number of episodes where a mobile home / camper won out over larger (but still tiny) homes.
I’ve never seen that show but “downsizing” is really appealing to me. I’m very much over “stuff.” Except scented stuff, of course! ????
Good luck with the van! That sounds so awesome.
Thanks! We’ll see what it looks like when I’m done. Probably one hot mess ????
I was thinking of wearing Samsara, but by perfume order came in the mail. I’ve been wanting L’orpheline since I used up a sample of it over a year ago and now a bottle is mine! So that’s my SOTD.
Congrats on the new bottle!
And hopefully all the nicer for the wait 🙂
Jane Austen rules!
SOTD is Pacifica Sandalwood, my only sandalwood-centric scent.
Have a fantastic Friday, all y’all!
ha! I could have worn my pacifica today! you smell great!
Thanks!
Used their bodywash this morning, so half-twins?
Nah, full twins, I say. It’s the same scent, just delivered differently. ????
I’m conducting a side-by-side sandalwood test here! (I don’t have to go anywhere in public today.) On my right forearm is Tom Ford Santal Blush; on my left, SL Santal Blanc, and on the tip of my fingers, just the last droplets of my precious bottle of MPG Santal Noble. The Tom Ford is pleasant but to me it lacks depth. It’s very one-dimensional and light. I get no floral chords at all from it. It’s almost got a sneeze-inducing factor. The SL is lovely but too full of curry and spice. It goes on sweet but isn’t sweet at all after half an hour or so. MPG has long been my favorite sandalwood (even more than SL Mysore), it is deep, golden, and rich. It’s maybe got too much amber for some tastes but I love that. I’m heartbroken that it is discontinued and really hard to find now. 🙁
Three — I think you win! But sorry your favorite is gone.
PS On the Jane Austen front, I am proud to say that I’ll have an essay in a forthcoming volume (from Oxford) on philosophy in the novel Emma. But I still have to write it!
How exciting, Emma is one of my favourite novels, good luck with it!
Oh please keep us informed as to availability. I would love to read it!
A big congratulations!!
Awesome! I imagine there are more than a few of us here who’d be very interested in reading it when it’s published!
Lovely, good for you!
Congratulations! It sounds like a great topic.
Santal Exotique for me today. Cuddly sandalwood and warm spices are perfect for the freezing cold weather outside
I like that one too!
I’m wearing Bois de Iles parfum today.
Bois des Iles, lest I be corrected.
You mean Box of Eels, right? 😉 You smell great.
Of course she does!Lol.The child is young, she’ll learn…haha!
I’m in the perfectly work appropriate and thoroughly sandalwood Iunx L’Arbre. Yum. It starts off really creamy and turns sheer quickly.
Do wish IUNX would get a distributor!
When I was a poor grad student I wore (and loved) sandalwood essential oil, so I was surprised to find not a single sandalwood scent in my current collection. Settled for my winter standby, Oscar de la Renta’s Santo Domingo. For some reason, this scent (along with the others from OdlR’s Essential Luxuries line) have been neglected by the blogs, Basenotes, etc. but they are really lovely, and Santo Domingo is the standout for me – soft tobacco and citrus.
Soft tobacco and citrus sound like a great combo!
I hadn’t tealised how many of my perfumes have a sandalwood note until this week! And I realised afresh how many things I haven’t tried. Tam Dao is one I can try locally, but I’ve added others to my StC list.
A beautiful Saturday morning here, but still early and a little cool outside, and I think a little Samsara will go well.
Maria Candida gentile “Langaron Forest” today, a mandarin orange plus sandalwood.
How do you like it? I’ve been curious about that one but it seems so many places that used to carry MCG are dropping that line ????
Not sure if I am actually participating in the friday project(I might be?) but SOTD! is Eau des Baux from L’Occitane.Lots of tobacco leaves and heaps of vanilla, this is helping me cope with final packing before I move house!!You all smell fabulous!!(esp. the gals in Box of Eels!)
I THOUGHT about Box of Eels. Does it count?
🙂
Of course,just because it’s you.Hehe.x
I’m wearing Les Nereides Opoponax. There’s some sandalwood in it, but it doesn’t overwhelm other notes. I keep this one handy around the holidays, as I especially like it this time of year.
It is really nice. Maybe I’ll use up the rest of my sample, and see if I notice the sandalwood.
I was only on call for a retail shift today and figured rightly that they’d be slow and not need me . So I went overboard trigger happy with Samsara Shine …Mmmmmm. Creamy, sweet, plush scent with a bit of raspyness in there too. Today’s crop of fruity florals want to be this when they grow up. Scent sisters with everyone rocking Samsara today!
High five!
Had to wear Satellite’s Padparadscha today. It’s cold, windy, rainy & sunny here in the desert! (Yes, all at the same time)
Robin, have you seen this? http://www.cntraveler.com/story/frances-sncf-wants-to-build-a-train-line-through-chanels-perfume-fields
Yay for rain in the desert! Still waiting for some here in southern AZ…
I did, thanks! I tweeted a link to one of the articles but never really posted about it.
I was going to wear my favorite sandalwood of all the time, vintage Samsara extrait but I have changed my mind last minute, I am wearing Coromandel edt.
Mmmmm, I briefly considered this but went with Puredistance White instead. You smell wonderful!
SOTD = Puredistance White
So once again, I snubbed my BdI EDT for a different sandalwood fragrance. I wanted to balance the universe slightly. Puredistance White is a plush blend of rose, orris, tonka, sandalwood, musk, vetiver and patchouli. The notes include ergamot but I don’t smell it at all and instead, I get peach or apricot. I may bave relayed this story before but please indulge. The first time, I wore this to the office, 2 of my co-workers kept following me around to sniff the air around me. I told them what it was and they were shocked at the price. I gave them the contact details but neither of them followed through.
Eeek, right now, I am standing in a Starbucks line and the person ahead of me is wafting Ewww de La Vie est Belle!
Why is it that the people who project are never wearing something really, really good?? It’s like people who drive around blaring music out of their cars, and it’s never, say, Led Zeppelin.
Very true!
You smell wonderful! I’m thinking… Maybe I should wear WHITE for Christmas? It’ll be very fitting 🙂
The most expensive brand I’ve ever been able to interest anybody in was JHAG. All other inquiries (and even samples/decants) about “what is this wonderful scent” had never resulted in perfume purchases.
White for Christmas sounds perfect. I would have to choose carefully because several family members are scent phobes. I will probably wear Vanilla Smoke.
Ack on the La Vie Est Belle sniffing!
I’m in Amouage Interlude Woman today. The sandalwood in this one is strong on my chemistry.
I won a sample of Interlude Man and whenever I wear it, I get the sneezies for the first minute or so!
Whoa!
I need to try that one again. The first time I wore it, the concatenation of unusual top notes was so surprising that I don’t know that I even noticed anything in the base.
Happy birthday Jane Austen! We’ve been watching the BBC Emma mini series lately, for the sheer comfort of all those rolling lawns and lovely frocks and Mr. Knightley’s no-b.s. gentlemanlyness.
Woke up sick and still under assault from yesterday’s migraine, so I wasn’t sure I’d want to wear *any* fragrance today, but then I caught sight of L’Eau d’Hiver and it felt just right for a day when I’m feeling grisly and the cold north wind is scouring the last of the golden leaves off our willow trees. I’ll wear something sandalwoody tomorrow, to make up for skipping out on the theme du jour!
Feel better!
I hope L’Eau d’Hiver chased the migraine away!
SOTD = Samsara EdT. This is one of my desert island perfumes, along with the EdP. I can’t choose between them, so I have both bottles.
You’ve certainly got all. Ases covered! Do you mod rn or vintage or one of each?
My bottles are not current by my reckoning. I picked them up in either 2009 or 2010. The first blind buy I ever did, and it worked out very well!
So, finally a “complete” scent-twin for me! I’m also wearing Samsara EdT.
Hiya twin!
Long day today. Since I love sandalwood, I think that everyone smelled lovely. I chose Mohur Extrait as my SOTD. Thanks hajusuuri for hosting this split!
Scent cousins, maybe? There are a few of us in NV today, but all in different perfumes.
SOTD was the wonderful Neela Vermiere Bombay Bling, which I applied sparingly, and which is just about gone. Glorious while it lasted, though, with its gorgeous mango note over a smooth, spicy base. I did three days of sandalwood, with the never-disappointing Estée Lauder Sensuous on Wednesday, and Guerlain Samsara edp on Thursday. I suspect I would have liked Samsara better back when it was a powerhouse–it seems very tame nowadays, although certainly pretty. Sandalwood is a note I feel I’m just starting to fully appreciate, so I’m looking forward to reading about what everyone else wore.
