It's Friday! (And, happy birthday to Britney Spears.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume by Michel Almairac, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am sure I will not be the only one in the original Bottega Veneta.
Reminder: 12/9 will be Best Buy Friday — wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2016. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Happy Friday, everyone!
SotD: Bois d’Encens. So, so good. Very dry cedar, vetiver, and incense.
I am drinking a cup of Mangalam Assam from Harney. One of my favorite Assams and just the kick in the seat I need this morning.
I need a kick in the seat, maybe I should drink what you are drinking
Also planning to wear Bois d’Encens later, layered with Aftelier Ancient Resins oil. Good for the season, too.
That tea sounds really good. I like assams.
I dug through my box o’ samples because I knew I had one of those Bond No, 9 scents that Almairac did, and sure enough I found The Scent of Peace: bright fruity top, wet LOTV middle, gauzy wood base, 100 per cent not my kind of thing (and it won’t scrub off), although I can see how some people would love it, because it is exactly like 90 per cent of what’s in the drugstores these days, so it’s extremely zeitgeisty despite being a decade old. Can’t see it’s worth the money, but the bottle sure is pretty.
And now I must go have an aggressive shower to get rid of it so I can put on something I actually like. Probably one of the A*Men flankers: can’t go wrong with those.
Plus, an A*Men flanker will cover any prior mistakes 😉
It’s basically spray-on wallpaper.
Exactly.
Spray-on wallpaper! hilarious!
I agree with everything you said about Scent of Peace. When I was at the Bond counter this summer the SA said this was their best selling scent. I also get it’s massive appeal but it’s totally not my thing. The Guide likens it to shampoo- hehe- and I probably shouldn’t have read that before trying because all I could associate it with while I wore it was my dorm days and the smell of Aussie hair products permeating the air.
I am in Courrèges Blanc de Courrèges thanks to a very nice NST’er.
I haven’t showered yet and I am completely exhausted.
This week has been a drag..
Happy Friday ya’ll
Get good rest!
How is Buddha baby????
Hope you get some rest soon.
He is feeling better today, thank goodness
🙂
Yay, buddha!
Glad to hear he is doing better. The multi-day fever is scary!!!
Forgot today was Friday..is today really Friday? After I shower I will be in This is Her by Z&V
Good Grief
What day is it? Mommy brain strikes again, and it happens to me all the time. Naps with blankies for everyone this weekend!
I hope you have some time to recharge soon.
Happy Birthday Britney! My heart, my soul, my everything! Lol! ^_^
I’m rocking Believe today, with dabs of L’Eau de Chloe from a mini I have. Is it still in production? I’m afraid to buy a bottle if there’s nothing but oldies out there. : (
I have a feeling it is out of production, but no way to know for sure. Bottles can still be found at discounters.
Thanks Robin! ^_^
When I was in Bordeaux, France three months ago, Galeries Lafayette was still selling L’Eau de Chloe. I almost bought a bottle. Now I am sorry I did not.
Its very pretty.
Apologies to Monsieur Almairac but I’m in my second day of Arbolé Arbolé and smitten. Nose stuck to wrist.
Have a good weekend all, I hope the US perfumista’s won’t be too cold, it seems winter is really on its way to most of you!
I’m sure he will forgive you!
TGIF! I’m in Paloma Picasso’s Minotaure again, and it’s still quite lovely.
I don’t own a single Almairac though I would love a bottle of Bois d’Encens. So I went with what I wanted to wear and chose L’Heure Bleue.
I would not turn my nose up at a bottle of BdE either 😉
SOTD Acqua di Parma Gelsimino Nobile. Although it is a very beautiful fragrances, I always forget I have it.
I was given a sample of this and feel much the same, like it falls short of similar fragrances.
Twins! A nice, easy to wear jasmine.
HAPPY FRIDAY!! Still have Friday night lights tonight! Hoping the Grayson High School Rams make it all the way to State Champs! And of course, the MARCHING BAND will be cheering them on the whole way…..
Turns out I have 3 or 4 choices from Michel Almairac…I must be a fan!
SOTD: Voleur de Roses. Nice one, Mr. Almairac! 🙂
Go band!
I’m feeling sad because this is Gaze’s last year, and I’m pretty sure he won’t do it in college, wherever he winds up.
Good Luck!
Go Rams! And hopefully the football team will win too.
Twins! And GO BAND!
Will somebody please get that woman some food?! She looks like someone was trying to photoshop a modern day Olive Oyl. (No offense, Robin)
I have been ignoring my craving for BV all week to save it for today, the only Almairac I own. Like how I try not to roast a chicken in the weeks before Thanksgiving. But it’s all good now. And if I can pull together an outfit half as well coordinated as my BV it could be a very good day.
Have a great Friday and weekend, folks.
Not all skinny people DON’T eat 🙂
I wonder how many skinny models there are who don’t, though.
True….but I am 93lbs and eat like a horse….and it drives me crazy when people always comment about my weight because if I was 193 lbs no one would dare say to me “you are so fat…stop eating” !!!
Sorry for the rant….just a sensitive issue for me 🙁
You make a good point – people aren’t as … polite? … about remarking on someone’s weight when it appears to be under, rather than over, a perceived “norm”. I can’t say that I sympathize because I’ve never been “under” in my life 😉 but I can empathize. I’m not clever enough to think up snappy comebacks to those who can’t stop themselves from making intrusive comments, but someone here will, I’m sure. 🙂
Preach!
I used to be in the same boat with you. I had a very high metabolism and would eat ALL THE THINGS but not gain weight. Then college and desk job happened and I did gain the weight. I’m back down now, but I still feel it is a bit unfair to skinny people who try to gain weight. My husband has been trying to put on weight because he was dangerously skinny for his size and it’s been a struggle. He gets exasperated each day when he sees he needs to eat more (he counts calories to help him keep on track).
Any comment about another’s size, weight, etc. is just plain rude!
I think most of people have to struggle with tendency to be overweight, even though they don’t eat a lot… like me…for this reason they assume when they see a really skinny person, that she/he does not eat AT ALL
I really do sympathize. But I’ve been on both ends — under 100 lbs and a weight not to be disclosed — and people give you looks and make comments on both sides I’m afraid to say. And the eat comments usually have an edge of envy the “your going to eat THAT” comments don’t.
Which isn’t to say I am not with you and think everyone should keep ALL the comments to themselves!
TGIF!
Yep Robin! BV for me too 😉
BV original for me too!
Twinszyssss!
BV for me too!!! I love this fragrance….it reminds me somewhat of Miss Dior which my long ago deceased godmother used to wear…a very smart, classy lady
Me, too! New decant instead of my old sample, and this has maybe more fruit in with the leather (even if it’s not sweet). Still it’s very nice.
Hey family!
Over the years I have drained at least half a dozen full bottles of Almairac perfumes but at the moment I have none…..so…..Oud al Sahraa for today….
and gearing up for next week’s challenge I looked at my credit card bills for the year as I could not remember the last full bottle I actually purchased for myself…guess what? Zero! Every single perfume purchase was a gift…even Assam of India I purchased with a birthday gift card….and yet somehow full bottles have been making their way back to me as I usually purchase for 10 family members and extremely close friends and we are constantly swapping bottles…
Happy Friday, y’all!
Having full bottles without paying a dime – that’s a nice problem to have.
hey Jenkr! Guess I wasn’t clear….I made oodles of purchases this year of full bottles but they were all gifts for family members and friends (none for me)….and somehow some of them made it back to me-LOL! Case in point, I bought a family member that honkin’ 6.8 oz bottle of Orange Sanguine…she chose to decant it and left me with the full bottle :)…same can be said for many other bottles…
Ah I see. Well it’s nice that some made their way back so you could also enjoy them.
Yup! we pretty much share everything 🙂
This sounds like a really awesome arrangement! Not specifically the gifts bouncing back to you, but just general group enjoyment/bottles-passing-around part.
yes…it is sort of like a constant swap group 🙂
It sounds like you have a wonderfully close family. That’s awesome! (And very helpful when it comes to perfume.)
And also helpful that many family and friends actually enjoy perfume!
Acqua di Parma Gelsomino Nobile. A fresh, greenish jasmine scent. It is pretty and it does not behave like a diva as many white florals do.
Nice!
BV from a recent Nordstrom trip sample. Is the recent version a different creator?
I don’t think so — mostly, by “original” I meant not one of the flankers.
Ahhh. Got it!
I thought I hadn’t an Almairac to my name, but went through the list one more time and found that I’d missed BV Eau Légère the first time through. So I’m in soft suede and flowers today.
SOTD is Cabaret.
Twin!
I currently do not have any Almairac so no challenge for me. I’m in Nanban instead, which is working well with my denim shirt, black skinnies and new leather barefoot style boots. it feels like a s***kicker day so I dressed the part. Now time to knock out the rest of the reports.
You smell and look great!
Twins! :^)
“s***kicker day” would be an interesting fragrance theme for a Friday or weekend. 😉
In Bond No.9 Fire Island. Summer in a bottle. It is cheering me up in a cold day like today. Love it!
It really is perfect in dreary weather.
I went with Bond No 9 Fire Island. We are on our way to Orlando with some family members for the semi-annual pilgrimage.. I thought I’d go full-on beachy with Bronze Goddess shower gel and Bain de Soleil orange gel as a moisturizer since all my packing is done. We will take in a hockey game and football game in Tampa and maybe get to Cocoa Beach if the weather stays good. Have a great weekend everyone!!
Have a great trip!
Oh, have fun!
SotD = Ambre Narguilé, day 4.
I love the Bottega Veneta image at the top of today’s post. That’s one fierce pout.
Happy B-day, Britney Spears, what a life. I would give her a place in the NST pantheon for the day. Perhaps not at the top with Donatella, but I think she’s earned a pedestal somewhere.
It really is a fierce pout, plus, love that color scheme.
Planning to visit Tysons later today, so I was checking what brands Neiman Marcus carries. I’d like to check out how the repackaged and presumably reformulated Annick Goutal brand has held up and also the Profumi del Forte brand.
I also noticed that they have the La Panthere extrait, which I would buy for the bottle if I had money to burn:
https://nstperfume.com/2014/08/11/bunch-o-limited-edition-collector-bottles-and-some-other-stuff-2014-part-15/
Have not been to Tysons in an age — have fun shopping!
I’m wearing the original Gucci Pour Homme (my last bottle, panic time!) –It’s my favorite smoky woody incense, along with Zagorsk. It’s one of the few perfumes, along with Lalique’s Encre Noire, that my DH and I actually fight over (but they’re both mine, really, I swear). I haven’t tried the one MA did for Lalique, has anyone tried it?
Twins. Whoever decided to dump GPH needs putting away for a very long time, it’s bloody marvellous stuff.
Roses de Chloe for me. The fresh rose is lovely. I might switch to something a little cozier later on though. I need something against the grey winter skies.
I like that scent too. It’s nice for a light rose.
Hi all! I hope everyone’s well. I’ve been AWOL this week due to general busy-ness on the heels of our Central Coast vacation, but I’d been looking forward to the excuse to wear Bottega Veneta. I swear, as nice as this fragrance is, half the pleasure of it is in the spray mechanism! Not looking forward to a long day in the office, alas.
welcome back
It does have a fantastic sprayer. Why don’t they all have those? I hope you enjoyed your trip. I do love the Central Coast and have fantasized about living there-San Luis Obispo, specifically.
My home town! It’s a wonderful place, though it’s changed since my childhood in ways that make my heart ache.
Nice place to grow up! I can’t speak to the change there, but I grew up in LA which has changed a lot since I lived there last (1991), in some ways, for the better. The cropping up of mini mansions where Spanish style ranch homes were is not one of the positives.
My sister just spent a lovely week at Pismo. Jealous!
Inspired by clarissa, I am wearing Cuir Ottoman. My car keeps collecting my perfumes in its A/C system, and by now it smells divine! I am creating my uber perfume there 🙂
You and I keep inspiring each other 🙂 You have inspired me for Pathetique (among others)
Oh, that sounds wonderful! my work purse is now this perfect, perfect scent- and it’s all due to myriad of sample strips I thrown in there!
I’m wearing my only Almairac today: Casmir by Chopard. One half a spritz shared between two arms, and I can smell it through my long-sleeved shirt!
Twins! You smell lovely! I bravely went with a full spritz???? This is one of my early perfume loves, and still one of my all time favorites. It’s the only perfume (and I’ve said this before so pardon my redundancy) that I’ve purchased after smelling on a strip inside a magazine. It was released the same year I graduated from college, so it was a splurge for me. It holds many good memories.
Triplets! I’m still on my original bottle from 1993, although I did go through a couple purse atomizers of the parfum. This and Lou Lou were my mainstays for a while.
Quads! Not sure how old my bottle is, though.
Wearing Cabaret today, which is good with our blustery chill. However, I’m disconcerted because usually my husband wears this and I keep thinking he’s right behind me.
I love that he wears Cabaret!
Haha!I love that. And you smell fabulous.
OH! While I’m here, I thought I’d ask: someone wrote to my blog recently asking if I had any suggestions for a new fragrance. Her longtime favorite, Bill Blass for women, is discontinued and she’s down to the last drops in her last bottle. Doesn’t want to buy vintage on ebay (apparently tried it and got burned with a bottle that had gone off and was expensive to boot). Would rather purchase in person and is not really interested in the Monday Mail (I asked). She said she’d bought J’Adore l’Or but hadn’t opened it; I advised her to go have a good thorough spritz from the tester at the store first.
Anybody familiar with it and can offer some other suggestions? She hates Norell (suggested to her as a possible substitute) and is allergic to Ralph Lauren Lauren. BBfw appears to be a green floral with a warm mossy-amber base. I did suggest Safari, but she couldn’t find it at the mall.
Anybody? I’d really like to help her out.
The original Bill Blass from the late 70s? That was one of my first “grown up” perfume purchases I made on my own! took the city bus with a good friend to Macy’s (we were in 7th grade at the time) and bought that along with Tatiana…..
gosh I haven’t seen that one mentioned in ages! I remember it was sweet…pineapple? It reminded me a bit of Alfred Sung (another good one)…maybe the Sung might be easier to find…fragrancenet? Or else another contemporary with a pineapple accord…. a family member left me with her bottle of Nest Midnight Fleur and I swear there is pineapple in that one…and that can easily be sampled at Sephora…I am going to look now if fragrancenet sells Sung…..
http://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/alfred-sung/sung/edt?gclid=CPz0roD61dACFQxMDQodV0cCoQ&mv_pc=gawus_pla_with_promotion_c_g_118670&utm_campaign=g&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google_us#118670
here you go…I have never had a problem purchasing from fragrancenet so I think it would be a safe recommendation…
and amazon and fragrance used to sell the Bill Blass but it looks like it is out of stock…I remember seeing it at a discount perfume store in the mall…maybe she will have some luck there….
that would be “fragranceX”
Today I’m wearing Caron Piu Bellodgia, and drinking Earl Grey tea. This scent does not aggravate my allergies, which are really getting to me right now.
We are heading to Florida for a small vacation, and I will start packing soon. I am trying to decide what perfumes to pack for six days. So far these have made the cut: No. 5 L’eau, No. 19, Hermes Rose Ikebana and Atelier Mandarine Glaciale.
That sounds like a beautiful-smelling vacation. Have an awesome trip!
Jealous of all the FL vacations! Have great fun.
I am all Bottega’d up in body cream and edp, radiating to the sky. Happy Friday!
Happy Friday to you too, you smell great
Sounds perfect!
And carried the BV purse?
Yes, of course!
Woke up late for work today and the first thing that I had grabbed while literally running out the door was vintage Bal. Now since I have the rest of the day to myself, I’m about to wear vintage Mitsouko.
Currently wearing Larmes du Desert. Glorious stuff
You smell wonderful!
Really beautiful.
I’m a worried wreck today. My brother who was slated to visit next week ended up in the ER last night with some cardiac symptoms and is supposed to have a cardiac catheterization today to check for blockage. I’m hoping for the best possible outcome for him. All prayers welcome!
My SOTD is Lalique le Parfum courtesy of the ever generous Petunia. I tried it last night and I love it so far. Soft, pretty, warm with a bay note that gives it some earthiness. It’s a comforting veil today.
Prayers given here!
Oh dear…good he is being taking care of
I am hoping for the best outcome for your brother & sending positive thoughts.
Positive vibes to you….
Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping for the best.
Praying for his full health and your peace. Hopeful you and he get together soon!
So sorry that you’re brother is ill. Sending positive thoughts, and hoping he makes a full recovery.
I am thinking of him and sending thoughts and prayers towards him and the rest of your family. My fingers are crossed for a good outcome.
Praying that you get good news soon!
Hi ElisaP. I hope things go well and he gets the best of care…and you too.
Oh I hope it goes as best as possible, and rest and self-care to your and your family.
I’m sorry to hear that, I hope everything turns out fine.
Hugs to you Elisa and prayers that your brother has the best possible outcome.
Praying your brother recovers very soon. Sending you warm hugs.
Thank you for all your good thoughts and well-wishes! Your support is a great comfort to me. He had his procedure done and they didn’t find any blockages so I’m hugely relieved. They think the symptoms and concerning results results from the non-invasive tests are from a medication he is getting now for an autoimmune condition.
Thinking of you!X
Oh, so glad to hear that. Hope they get the meds worked out.
That’s good news for a Friday. Take care.
I’m glad the docs appear to have identified the problem and hope it gets sorted straight away for him. Best wishes for you both!
So glad the results were reassuring, and I hope it can all get sorted out and that your brother will be feeling better very quickly! What a stressful experience for you both!
This is good news, praying for a speedy and full recovery.
My thoughts are with you both! Sounds like things are looking up!
He (and you) will have my prayers!
Fingers crossed for the best!
Oh my! He and you are in my prayers!
Sending positive thoughts and prayers for your brother that all ends well.
I love the Bottega Veneta bottle. I don’t have it, because something in there gets wonky on my skin, but I’m very glad that it gets plenty of love.
The only Almairac I have at hand is a sample of Roses de Chloe, but it didn’t feel quite right on this cold and cloudy day.
So, I’m still in Winter Antidote land, with Fils de Dieu on the left arm, and a swipe of Bronze Goddess on the right. These have enough heft to be noticeable, and they are not intimidated by cold temps.
Tea:
Mightly Leaf Green Tea Tropical. It has pineapple, and it’s cheerful.
You smell great, and like where I want to be 🙂
I’m commando, but with a good reason: I slept in, got out of bed 8:45, my first meeting started 9:00, I was only 10 minutes late. The benefits of living 7 minutes from the office. But, yeah, no perfume.
Oh, I’ve just realised I have some L’Eau d’Hiver in the office. Could wear that (I have other perfumes as well, but I didn’t feel like wearing them).
3 cheers for sleeping in.
I envy you
Yes, it’s nice as long as it lasts, then replaced by immediate horror????
Shared horror,as I got up this morning the time I usually arrive at work!(It’s a 45 minute Highway-To-Hell drive for me,on a good day,btw!!)
I’m sorry to hear that. But it’s weekend now!
Somehow annikky without perfume just seems wrong 🙂
???? Thats true for all NSTers, though.
I really need to thank you again for sending me Nanban. It’s become quite a staple now and I’ll most likely put it on the MUST HAVE list when I’m done with what you sent. Love it.
Also, I was looking at your latest blog posts. Totally agree with Hada Labo being a good moisturizer. I cannot live without that lotion now. I’ve gone through 3 bottles of it and it is a staple of my daily routine. I’ve also got a good spf by them that I’m running dangerously low on.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it. I mean, I’m perfectly OK with sending people stuff even if they don’t like it (testing is important!), but there is a special pleasure in introducing people to something they love.
And thanks for backing me up on Hada Labo!
Wow – you were able to get ready crazy fast. I hope your day isn’t shaken up due to its hectic start.
L’Eau d’Hiver is a great office standby.
This is one of those “things most people don’t know about me” situations: although I love my morning skincare and perfume and like to dress up and put some makeup on, I can get ready really quickly when need be. My record is a full opera look in 5 minutes: black dress, tights, heels, hair up, base, mascara, liner, red lipstick, clutch, go. I think I even had a red rose in my hair:) On ordinary days, I’m happy to skip makeup, so that helps – I just need to put my contacts on, brush my teeth and find these f***ing keys!
Absolutely agree on the scent – excellent for the office. I have one of those beautiful 2ml Malle samples on my desk.
Wow. 5 minutes. Applying a liner alone usually takes what feels like half an hour for me 🙂 If you speak of an eye liner, that is
To be perfectly honest, I think it was an eye pencil – not sure I could have managed liquid liner…
That is impressive. I’m not a morning person and it takes me 5 minutes just to walk to the bathroom in the morning.
I am so not a morning person either (and I read way past midnight almost every day). But that’s also why I move fast when I finally get up: there is no other choice, really.
My life changed for the better once I decided that keys would go to ONE place. If for some reason they wander away there is much cursing and bus-missing…
Wise words.
Wow! I am in awe of that 5-minute record! The faster I go on makeup, the more disastrous the results…which rather defeats the purpose.
I think because I almost always do my makeup pretty fast, I’m used to it. I wouldn’t try anything new in that situation, though.
That sounds like one of those weird nightmares where you have an exam you didn’t study for etc. things that make you go aaaarrrrrggggh.
Indeed! But all my negative emotions are gone after reading your vacuum story????
I don’t have any Michel Almairac. I have been slightly profligate as a result of trying 1ml samples instead of my usual 2ml.
SOTE last night was Clive Christian “L”, worn to the Christmas Market in Paris. The balsam fir and petitgrain was fresh but ultimately too toned down for my tastes.
SOTD started as Arquiste “El”, which was okay but a bit ‘generic men’s stuff’. I have switched to “Nanban”, which is slightly odd to spray from a sample as I have a FB at home, but it’s lovely.
Sitting in CDG airport waiting for the flight to BHX. I am tired with a stress headache and the next (and for me final) three weeks on this programme can not go fast enough.
Sorry to hear about your headache – I hope you recover soon. I hope the time passes quickly so you can put this project behind you.
Happy Friday!
Slept in this morning- oh, what a rush! Do not have the featured maker in my sample collection, so I am wearing the Marc Jacob Decadence, which is a very nice pick me scent, honestly.
I have a big cup of jasmine green tea AND I have a big cup of cafe au lait. It’s gonna be a day!
but at least it is Friday 🙂
and I had a cup of coffee this morning as well….and I normally don’t drink coffee….
Yes! Thank goodness! After work- The Holiday Ale Festival! The whole city is gonna be crunked!
🙂
(Sleep-in) Twins! 🙂
I so wanted to love Bottega Veneta, but it goes sour on me.
I ended up in a couple of my new Smell Bent samples. I’ll post a brief review in the Scent of the Day post on Saturday..
Oh good, want to hear how they are!
Ooh, I have some Smell Bent samples coming to me soon..
In Casmir this morning. I have started the holiday season by putting the wreath on the door and lighting the Thymes Frasier Fir candle. I am a total tech klutz and posting pictures of my furniture and fumes for sale is making me want to bang my head against the wall. I might put on something a bit more serenity-inducing later on, Casmir is quite a ride.
You are ahead of me — I have done absolutely nothing. Must get the decorations out…
Finally stopped lurking and started participating! SOTD is Voleur de Roses by L’Artisan from a small decant I bought last month. The patchouli is really coming through – it’s actually quite lovely but it might be better for patch lovers, rather than mere patch likers like me.
Welcome!
Welcome and I agree with your comment on Voleur de Roses. Wish I loved patch more than I do.
Thanks all! I’ve always loved patchouli scented soap (Caswell-Massey was my favorite until they discontinued it) and I’ve realized it’s one of those scents that I love for 20 minutes but not the whole day . . .
Welcome! I tried Voleur de Roses very early in my sniffing addiction, my tiny decant is long gone, so I must try it again. I remember thinking it didn’t smell much of rose, but my nose might have quite a different view now.
I was expecting more rose too – then I realized the name translates to “thief of roses” so I guess they’re missing on purpose? I get a little around the edges, but mostly a dark green scent.
It’s fun to delurk sometimes.Welcome!!
Hello, twin! You smell great. I agree with you on Voleur: it’s quite lovely, but probably best for those who really *love* their patchouli.
Welcome! I happen to love Voleur de Roses, I guess I am a patchouli fan, although I do get rose from it too.
Hello there!
I wore Bottega Veneta yesterday, and it is one of my year-round go-to fragrances – I’d possess the entire body line if I could, and I also love the Eau Legere version as well. So for today I’m wearing Cabaret which I like very much but rarely wear. I really like it for a unisex warm but not dirty rose. It gets better the longer it’s on and the soapy notes are replaced by warm woody accords, and it also smells good year round, which I think is unusual for woody roses.
Not participating today. Wearing Devotion by House of Matriarch, layered with Ancient Resins oil. I feel very relaxed, even with all the drama at work 🙂
Good for you!
Saturday, and I absolutely MUST attend to some much needed housework. I somehow could not combine the sparse elegance of BV with vacuuming, dustng and other mundane tasks, and since it’s my only perfume that fits the project., I get a “Did Not Achieve” grade today! I chose the invigorating green of Silences, and how I wish there were some! The city was loud with shrieking revellers and revving motors last night, but I suppose everyone was having fun. Super for them….Silences is energising, which is good, because I know that Dakkie has lost two of his knitted mice under the fridge, (they get about, those mice) so I need to pull it out to retrieve them, and I might as well scrub the walls and floor and defrost the freezer while I’m about it, and that will make me want clean the oven as well. Yay for Saturday and domestic pursuits! When all that’s behind me, I’ll shower hugely and wear something fat and delicious and lazy, maybe Ambre Narguile. I love anticipating my next gorgeous perfume!
May you and yours be safe and well.
I hope you have a great sense of accomplishment after putting some order back into the world – that’s my favorite part of cleaning. I know what you mean about silence – I have company, and I wish that I could have a bit more silence to decompress after a loud day with high school students.
I have been having a major amber craving lately but own no amber perfumes. Should I try Ambre Narguile first?
Well, I have to say I adore it! I was given a sample by my optician, sprayed right there in his rooms, and fell deeply and instantly in love. I didn’t stop agitating then until I owned a bottle. My first back up bottle was diverted elsewhere, but I now have a safe second bottle (only 15 mls, though) in my possession, and the next time I’m in Melbourne, will probably buy another. It smells warm and golden, reassuring and –this always surprises me — a little sexy: it has hints of spice, of apples, of a little tobacco, of amber, of course, of buttery crumble on a fruity pudding….all these suspended in warm light. I love gourmands as a type, but some I could manage without with perfect equanimity. This one is a necessity in my collection, like Black Cashmere and 31 Rue Cambon.
Such a beautiful description of Ambre Narguile! Ambre Narguile is, at the moment, my life’s blood. I am smitten.
I have a confession to make. The other day i accidently vacuumed up the bottle of Epice Marine you gave me. I was trying to ‘vacuum smart’ i.e. Get the dog hairs off my desk without going to the trouble of moving papers, perfume samples, fountain pens, books…so I was carefully nozzling between the piles when, swear to God, the epice marine made a run for the vacuum and disappeared up the tube. What a terrible adventure for such a fine fragrance! Such indignity. You should have seen it as i went through the vacuum cleaner bag, parting dust, dog hairs, nail clippings ( not mine), chocolate wrappers to rescue the Hermes. I am in disgrace. Forgive me!
Ah yes, I know well the horrible sneezy task of going through the vacuum bag. No perfume in my case, but lots of beads.
Oh my goodness! I just laughed until the tea ran down my nose! Just as well I have another sample waiting for you when you come up for your stint in the reading room at the museum!
But did you save it,is the million dollar question!!??Lol!X
Hilarious! Was your mission successful or do you have a nicely scented vacuum cleaner bag now?
Soooo Hysterical!
I am in my only Almairac – Ambrette 9. At first I thought it was too simple, and after 5-6 wearings, I’m starting to think it’s simply perfect.
Have a great Friday/ weekend, everyone!
I think that’s a nice one, and sort of a sleeper in that line.
I have a sample of Chopard Casimir around here somewhere, but do you think I can find it? Of course not! So SOTD is the beautiful SSS Tabac Aurea.
It is probably hiding with a few of my AWOL samples somewhere.
Perfume Sync Battle here. I don’t get it. I got a sample of Beloved yesterday …. Now that I’ve gone over to the dark side, ordering samples. Sprayed it and thought this is just a mixture of Mitsouko and Nahema? So then I tried a side by side of Mitsouko and Nahema ( a two step business involving a trip to the perfume counter for Nahema where everyone is getting sprayed with Coach). I discovered that having a head and nose positioned between one arm sprayed with Beloved and another arm in Mitsouko/Nahema is asking for trouble…ended up punch drunk…or Ann Hathaway doing Wrecking Ball or Ben Kingsley doing Rocket Man ( you know what I mean, don’t pretend you haven’t watched it ) But they are so similar.? Aren’t they? Though now, 15 hours later, Beloved is nicely rich and spicy whereas M/N is more rose. Going to wear Zadig &Voltaire For Her today for detox. Beloved! I …just…don’t …understand….sob.
Well, if you need someone to take Beloved off you hands hit me up. I love it! ????
Love Beloved! And Nahema and Mitsouko, but I’m not brave enough to try all at once!
Hmmmm….I see your point, though I hadn’t noticed before. I like Beloved well enough for itself, but I think my reaction to it is deeply influenced by the dear man’s. He REALLY likes it, which is encouragement to wear it for dates.
Ahhhh,Beloved…You can file that one between PoaL and Bendelirious as my Top 3 perfumes of all time.
Interesting… I don’t like Mitsouko or Nahema at all, but I do like Beloved very much. Wore it yesterday in fact, and it was wonderful. But chacun à son goût!
That’s fascinating. I’ve done a side-by-side comparison of Gold and Beloved before because they struck me as similar. I’ll have to keep Mitsouko and Nahema in mind for the next time…
Hysterical!
I too love BV but was not feeling it today. Instead I am in a comforting cloud of Coromandel.
Happy Friday Everyone! My SOTD is the same as yesterday; Chloe by
Michel Almairac. Now that the weather has FINALLY cooled down, this fragrance is so nice.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
No Almanac, so can’t participate. Wearing Lampblack instead, and going slowly crazy because my husband’s biopsy results are still not back, after a week.
That’s tough, hope you have good news soon.
Keeping my fingers crossed for your husband and you.
I hope you get news, and soon.
Another WTF moment, why are the results always taking soooo long!!!(As a rational person I know the answers, but still!)Stay strong.X
Sending positive thoughts your way. I hope you have an answer soon. Just don’t forget to breathe!
Waiting is just so HARD. Thinking of you.
I hope the nerve wracking wait is over soon and that the news is good!
Oh, I’ m sorry, that waiting must be so hard. I hope and pray the results will be good and erase the painful wait.
The only Almairac I have is Bottega Veneta, so that is what I’m wearing today.
I wanted to pull my dusty old “bottle” of Rush out today but since I had to be in the office I am twinsies and went with BV too!
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
I enjoyed Cuir Beluga yesterday that I decided to do a repeat performance. It’s a big fail for the community projec but I smell pretty darn good!
Since I chimed in late yesterday, I’ll mention again that I opened Door #1 of my M. Micallef Advent Calendar and the treat was a 5 mL splash bottle of Ananda. On first sniff, it is a fruity floral. The calendar comes with a 30 mL bottle of Ananda so I will spray it on to get the other facets in the base – vanilla, musk and mimosa. Interestingly enough, I can open the box and peek at everything behind each door, but since I need more excitement in my life, I will be disciplined and be surprised each day!
Holiday Windows Report – Saks Fifth Avenue on 50th Street — This was the.best one yet out of the ones I’ve seen. The theme is The Nutcracker. The designers did a great job rendering the characters and the scenery without relying on digital imagery (which, in my opinion, is a somewhat lazy short-cut). Each Act was beautifully depicted and, together with the music playing in the background. brought the viewer into the scene. I was salivating over the candy ribbons as they looked so real!
Yummy.although I miss the Ass-part of your Cuir(ass) Beluga…Lol.X
🙂
I giggle and think of Hajusuuri every time my autocorrect tries to turn my leather into armor! ????
I will check out Saks
I tried to last year and I couldn’t deal with the crowds. Maybe a weekday early morning…
I did it this morning – no crowds!
I’m not familiar with “morning” ????
The tree was also nice, especially when the wind whipped the silver and gold banners and they shimmered and sparkled in neat columns.
Oh, what a lovely image that conjures up!
Thanks. I should have clarified that the banners were around two sides of the plaza surrounding the skating rink which is at the bottom of the foot of the tree.
Ohhhhh, I’m feeling jealous! You paint such a pretty picture of the city in my mind. 😉
It is pretty and I am sad that we’re moving to an office in New Jersey next year so it will take a bit more effort to enjoy the city.
You smell ravishing. 🙂 I was underwhelmed by Ananda, not being a fruity floral fan, but perhaps you’ll like it better.
Thank you! The proof will be in the wearing!
I’m another without any Michel Almairac, but a bottle of Bois d’Encens is planned for next time I pass through a well-equipped duty free.
Inspired by Kanuka, I’ll be doing the morning housework in a cloud of Beloved.
Don’t get too inspired by Kanuka, or you’ll be doing the morning housework in a cloud of hoover fluff and toenail clippings!
Touché!
Joining the in-crowd wearing BV today.
Happy to have another with us 🙂
Happy Friday (or Saturday), all!
My Michel Almairac scent for today is a L’Artisan Voleur de Roses. I talked a patchouli-loving family member into buying it, so I liberated a spritz from that bottle. ????
I like the idea of “liberated” — that works!
Right!?
Smart! For whatever reason, IIRC, this went into dank wet basement territory.
It’s very heavy on the patchouli, so I can see how could happen!
The model’s outfit in that picture of today though…looks very awkward. Not participating today,as we’ve had an extreme week of temperatures(HEATWAVE),freaky thunderstorms and just general WTF moments in my life!Soothing myself into an early night in with Kusmi Iced green jasmine tea and a good all-over slathering of No.5 body lotion.TGIF.Happy weekend all!x
I would not wear it but love the look in the picture.
Happy weekend to you too. I have work work to do or I’ll be further behind on Monday.
I bet the No5 lotion is sooo good. Stay safe in that extreme weather!
I wore SSS fig tree for my preschoolers this morning because the last time I tried to wear BV to school it was too much. But I just put some on now that I’m home. I have to remember to go easy, it really projects on me.
I cut it close on this one because I started searching for my decant last night and didn’t locate it until just before I had to get ready today, but I am in Bond No 9 West Side!
I had to run out the door this morning unshowered, so i rolled on some Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black in a big hurry.
For the challenge, post-shower later, won’t be Bottega Veneta since it smells awful on me.
But it will be some th ing good!
Nirvana Black is working it’s way into my heart. You smell great!
Burberry Body!
I know two of his perfumes, Zen and Rose Infernale. I do not own either of these at the moment. Today, I am in No.22, the dry down is so lovley…
Rose Infernale is lovely but I have to drench myself in it as it’s too light… fortunately the bottle is large.
VERY late posting today, but I am enjoying Escada Magnetism for Men, the only MA frag I currently posess.
Lucky you! It’s fantastic and discontinued!
I did wear a Almairac yesterday and most of the morning- Anna Sui La Nuit De Boheme edt . Showered up with BBW White Citrus and am considering some Aqua de Parma Parfumo ( vintage) . I’m just not in the mood for the others of his right now. ( Casmir is a bit much soon after a migraine and Cabaret is similar to a Amouage I was testing the day one of our pet dogs got put to sleep)Taking it easy today as Wednesday I had a sinus/migraine that kept me from choir practice. Was mostly over it when my Dad asked me to be available to pick him up from the ER ( kidney stone passing) he called for pickup at 2:15 am . I had Thursday work shift 9:30am-2:30pm . Got home fed the sickly 10 yr old kitty and found out my older cat was sick ! We had to take her to the animal ER -thankfully it was just a UTI , so meds and fluids and she’s herself. Whew!
Yikes! Hope you get some well-deserved rest this weekend.
No MA anywhere, so in a single spritz of SB Bollywood or Bust. It’s one of a couple of perfumes I have that work better underspritzed. I know LL Patchouli is another one. Thanks, Perfume Office Grump, for making me test my entire collection for your sensitivity!
Three spritzes of Soivohle Riverwalk today in the absence of anything Almairac. Like opening a can of patchouli whup-ass.
:-). Sounds great!
Wearing just one spritz from a bottle of Chopard’s Casmir. It still smells great to me!
I don’t own a single Michel Almairac, so I wore Bvlgari Black because I like it. It looks like I should acquaint myself with Voleur de Roses, though.
I’m joining several of you in Chopard Casmir today. Casmir was one of the first fragrances I purchased long ago from T.J. Maxx when I first began reading about perfume on the Internet. All the raves plus the notes indicated it would be a scent I’d like. I am fond of vanilla-based scents and enjoy sweet and gourmand fragrances, but there is something very off-putting in this scent (peach? apricot?) that is so syrupy and cloying I just don’t enjoy it. I haven’t worn it for several years for that very reason, and I thought today’s community challenge would be a good time for a retry. But, alas, my reaction is still the same: heavy, syrupy, and cloying, even with just a small spray. Despite having individual notes, all of which I enjoy, the cumulative effect is just not for me.
