Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's December. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Eau de Chloé, by Michel Almairac.
Reminder: on 12/2, wear a perfume by Michel Almairac, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the See by Chloé leather keyring was $110 back in 2012 and is probably impossible to find now.
Jacomo Parfum Rare, a neglected late-eighties gem, the dirtiest chypre you ever met: spicy carnation, filthy patchouli, dank incense, and tons of guttural oakmoss. It is so fantastic.
SO does not sound like my thing (except maybe the carnation), but I adore your descriptors. Guttural oakmoss indeed!
The weird thing is that once upon a time, most if not all commercial scents had at least one unattractive component, which made them “realer” in a way and threw the rest of the composition into sharp relief: unbridled prettiness is boring unless you have something to contrast it with. Many base notes (musk, castoreum, oakmoss, patchouli, lots of woods) are not inherently beautiful, but they become beautiful in context — and some of us love difficult notes of themselves, the way some people love bitter and sour flavours. Parfum Rare has an overdose of the unbeautiful, and paradoxically it becomes intensely beautiful because of it.
I beg to differ….oakmoss and patchouli e.o.s unto themselves are glorious to my nose 🙂
I second that…..huge oakmoss lover here 🙂
I understand.
I just love “guttural,” maybe the same way I love galbanum. 🙂
Galbanum…yes!!!!
Yes, it’s like how the most beautiful and handsome faces have a disproportionate or crooked feature.
FYI, one can still find this beautiful perfume on ebay at a range of prices.
Wonderful! The jolie laide paradox in perfume form. When I have too much sweetness or richness in food I crave bitter arugula and kale and dill pickles. 🙂
I wasn’t wearing anything because working from bed with a cough and lost voice, but that inspired me to put on some Silences (half appropriate!). Parfum Rare sounds like it needs an advanced perfumist to handle it!
Omg, that sounds fabulous!
Metallic grapes and a touch of powder – it’s got to be my second Almairac of the week, Escada Magnetism for men.
Glad someone is joining me in Almairac 🙂
I don’t recall smelling the men’s version, but I did enjoy Magnetism for women.
The men’s version is fantastic, my husband is rationing his last bottle. Sadly discontinued and expensive on ebay with lots of fakes, beware.
I wore Imaginary Authors’ A City on Fire. I should not have worn this to work – I keep thinking the printer has jammed
🙂
Do you like it otherwise, though?
I do actually. I think it would be lovely for a cozy evening at home, it is quite haunting.
Inquiring minds want to know what you think!
Has anyone else tried it?
I was just on their website ordering samples- I love the idea for this one and Yesterday Haze. This company’s story is intriguing. A delightfully unusual group with awesome instincts.
CdR today. I’ve stopped crying, so it’ no longer raining 😉
Actually had a lot of fun yesterday at the boss’s bday party. We all went to Dave & Busters and I played many more games than I thought I would. Lots of shooting hoops – we had a bit of a company contest going on – and I screamed repeatedly at one of the scary 3D first person shooter games. That was endlessly amusing to many coworkers because apparently it’s very easy to scare me. There is a drawing each year to decide who arranges the boss’s party so the employees in charge of the event made sure everything was taken care of so no babysitting involved on my part.
Back to business today though. First of the month = reports.
Thank you for making the rain stop!
The lovely Si de Lolita Lempicka today, may its memory be a blessing. (It does still seem to be on the European website, but it’s been years since I’ve seen it in the States.)
Oh, it’s gone? I enjoyed my mini but didn’t feel it necessary to buy more.
I can still find Si Lolita on my favorite discounter’s site. A 2.7 oz. bottle is less than $23.00.
Wow! that would have worked for last week’s challenge!
I finally remembered rabbit rabbit rabbit this morning!
OUd al Sahraa
thanks to Tiffanie for reminding me that I still have lebkuchen leftover which I am enjoying with pfefferneuse cookies and real hearty rye bread (with lots of seeds!) from the goodies that were brought to my house from Aldi’s in the city 🙂
I keep thinking I have to Google what the “rabbit rabbit rabbit thing is” but maybe I will just ask…huh?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_rabbit_rabbit
Don’t feel bad…I had to google it the first time myself 🙂
Oh thank you! My parents were the most superstitious people in the world, I can’t believe they missed this one!
I’ve survived two days almost exclusively on gingerbread. My reasoning is that as ginger is helpful with a cold, gingerbread surely must be as well.
Why not?
I really, REALLY need to make some gingerbread.
I am so lazy…love the sweets but want them premade so that I don’t have to bake!!!!
LOL! I love your reasoning!!!!!
Yay for lebkuchen and pfefferneuse! Mine were bought at Trader Joe’s. I need to go to Aldi and stock up on cookies and chocolate treats. ‘Tis the season for eatin’.
My mom brought them to our house for Thanksgiving…do go to Aldi’s as my mom tells me the holiday sweets are much less expensive than Trader Joes….she paid 1.99 each for everything (dark chocolate covered marzipan, lebkuchen, pfefferneuese, dark chocolate covered raspberry filled spiced gingerbread hearts and spice cookies whose European name escapes me at the moment) except for the marzipan stoellen which was 4.99 (and at that price it is a steal as well !)…
I really do try to eat healthy but when it is brought into the house I devour it….and I think I am also stress eating !
Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit
So long November! I am happy to see you go.
Rose Delight Body Oil today , no perfume yet or maybe not at all.
Waiting for a phone call my Buddha’s pediatrician. His fever has not subsided. Poor little guy.
Have a fragrant day ahead!
Hope he’s better very soon.
yes! It is time for the doctor, maybe?
I called after the first day, and they were not concerned. But now its been 3 days and this mom is concerned.
ugh…it is always challenging when little ones are sick 🙁
They called back and said if he is not better by tomorrow to bring him in.
Poor baby Buddha
Oh my goodness, poor little guy.
I hope it’ll be over soon. Hugs!
Stay persistent. Sometimes you really have to fight to get an appointment.
You smell lovely. I hope your Buddha recovers quickly!
Poor little guy ???? I hope it passes soon!
I’m still enjoying my Oriza L.Legrand samples. Today’s fragrance of choice is Marions-Nous, a lovely soft aldehydic floral. Tea is a chestnut oolong.
Have you tried the violet already? Or Cuir de l’Aigle Russe? I’m sorry if you have talked about them already, I’m behind with my NST-reading!
I wore Cuir de l’Aigle Russe yesterday and it’s very lovely. I’ve only sniffed the Czar de Violette or Violette du Czar from the vial, and it was very nice as well. They do a sample set of all of them for around €38,-. Although my guess is that this is more my line than yours, if you know what I mean.
I know exactly what you mean, but I’m still curious. And I migth want some of their soaps, in case the perfumes aren’t quite my thing.
I’m finally participating in the Friday challenge and wearing Bottega Veneta.
I’m saving mine for tomorrow, it smells so good!
Me too. 🙂
And it’s December. Wow. Just WOW!!!
SOTD: Jimmy Choo.
Have a wonderful day, y’all! 🙂
Love Jimmy Choo.
I’ve been out for two days with a cold – nothing serious, but unpleasant enough to stay home. Back to work today, but still feeling suboptimal and therefore wearing Lumiere Blanche, one of my comfort scents.
Feel better soon!
I’m better already, thanks! I don’t usually get really sick, but in this climate it’s almost inevitable that one would have an annoying virus at some point.
Yikes! My body is battling something as well…did a few yoga inversions this morning (like handstand) just to boost my immune system…hope you feel better 🙂
I would certainly feel better about myself if I could do a handstand! Thank you and I hope your immune system has been duly boosted 🙂
any inversion would help…even down dog…..I bet you could do that one 🙂 I just love being upside down and feeling the blood rush to my head.
http://www.doyouyoga.com/5-yoga-inversions-for-beginners-29416/
I hope Robin does not kill me for posting this but since so many of us are sick/getting sick I think this will help 🙂
It would be really bad karma to kill someone for posting a yoga inversions video.
I looked..I can do shoulder stand!
Ditto! The last time I did a hand stand I was on a yoga retreat and it took me 10 days of yoga classes to get one in!
hey at least you got there!
Hope you feel tip top for the weekend.
Me too, thank you!
Feel better soon!
I have a hairdresser’s appointment tomorrow, that should cure me.
The sun is shining and I am wearing Beloved to celebrate the loveliness of this day. I have large windows behind my desk at work and the sun is warming my back. It feels so nice after three dreary days.
That sounds and must feel very lovely. You smell fab
very nice!
Ooh, would love that. The ray of sun that was coming into my cube from an outside-facing office was just shut down by the office owner, who put the blind down. Sigh.
Twins! Beloved is perfect for this sunny crisp December day.
One day out to be twins, I wore Beloved yesterday. It’s a lovely perfume.
Darn it! I NEVER remember to say rabbit rabbit rabbit until I see Robin’s posts. SOTD is the lovely TF Violet Blonde, and like Lovestosmellgood above, I’m very happy to wave goodbye to November. Happy Friday Eve everyone!
I remembered today for the first time in years. But, I have no idea why one might be supposed to say it. :^S
For good luck for the entire month….and this is the first time I remembered as well because I put it in my brain the night before by repeating rabbit rabbit rabbit over and over….I want that good luck!
I should tattoo it on my hand to remember it – the months lately have just gotten worse. Must remember the rabbit for January!!!
hee! hee! that would work!
I could use some rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. Will probably wear Chopard Casmir today since I’m off today. I can’t wear fragrance to the office anymore (some co-workers with bad asthma, plus it’s a medical office), so have to be content with evenings and the other four days of the week (luckily just work MWF). Plus, it’s my only Michel Almairac.
Orchid Soleil — I like this one a lot better on skin than on paper.
It’s not bad, is it? I think it would be great as a body cream or oil, too. It’s almost what I wanted Soleil Blanc (so wimpy!) to be.
It’s nice! I mean, nice tropical white florals are kind of a dime a dozen, but still, I like it, and I agree it would be great in a cream or oil format!
True that. But at least one doesn’t have to pay the Private Blend price for it.
I was just resmelling this today and wishing it was closer to spring so I could talk myself into buying a bottle.
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir.
Oh nice! Can’t remember who was asking for Christmas scents but Pom Noire would definitely fit the bill in my book !
SOTD is Baruti “Nooud”. This got a lot of attention for how the perfumer managed to make a perfume with no oud whatsoever in it smell just like oud. Notes are: oud (but it isn’t! ha!) and woody notes. Longevity is ho hum. I am neither an oud fan nor an oudophobe, so I don’t care. Next!
Are there any oud gourmand scents? I would buy one called Fooud.
Micallef Vanilla Oud is pretty yummy.
Oooh, I hope this is in the advent calendar!
Lol! Me too!
me three!
It’s a drizzly, cold, grey day today so it’s time for some Santal Majusule.
Wearing vintage Hermès Calèche obtained on a recent thrift foray. I transferred it into a spray bottle– a new campaign of mine for all those minis whose contents go unworn because they’re splash rather than spray. My husband finds it funny that I requested decant supplies for Xmas rather than new perfumes, but he’s willing, so….
I haven’t a single Michel Almairac in my stash to wear tomorrow, so I’ll lurk to see all of yours. Have a good weekend, all.
You should post anyway. I love reading everyone’s choices.
Co-sign Petunia’s comment.
Well, then, you two have convinced me. I’ll see what I reach for in the A.M. and tell you what it chances to be. 🙂
Arbolé Arbolé, love at first sniff. The essence of a life is good perfume. No time to reply to other comments, but well wishes to all.
Just got my decant and it is lovely. Thanks hajuusuri!
Good to know! I plan to order some as well.
It’s a nice one!
Because pyramus reminded me of it, I’m wearing Jacomo Parfum Rare Coeur de Parfum. Also because it’s the perfect antidote to yesterday’s triumphantly synthetic Gucci Rush.
In day 2 of no 19 edp. It has been a tough day at work so far.
Hang in there!!
I hope that tomorrow is a better day and you smell great!
Chanel No. 19 EDP will keep you sane and smelling wonderful!
Just received my En Voyage Cafe Cacao extrait yesterday and I smell fabulously delicious! Shelley very kindly included samples of the other two Souvenir de Chocolate trio and they are gorgeous layered together. Yesterday I put CC with Prada Amber and that was really good too. Hope everyone under the weather feels better soon.
Oh, those sound marvelous.
AAACK! I wish I could have remembered the “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” thing. I could really use some luck this month, three months into a long slog of a job search where one of my best hopes has been stringing me along for 2.5 months to see if they can find someone better.
I’m wearing Erik Kormann’s “Eau de Froehliche” (No. 2) this morning in celebration of December and in defiance of the “no scents” policy at my mind-numbing temp job. My daughter popped straight out of bed this morning (on a school day!), ran to the stairs, and announced that it’s the first day of December. So I put this on, as it’s not a sillage monster and doesn’t last forever, so I figure I can get away with it.
Right now I’m sitting in a ray of sun filtered through one of the outside offices and trying to get a tiny bit of Vitamin D and hope after a terrible, gloomy, rainy November (and October…who are we kidding…we set a rain record in October here in our little city at the end of the Earth). I’m trying not to miss Germany, where cost of living was affordable, there were jobs in my profession, and the Christmas markets are in full swing right now.
I wish you luck with a new job.
Once you are CEO you will be able to create a ‘ scents mandatory’ policy. Good luck.
Sounds grim, hope you get good news very soon!
Good luck. I hope that December and 2017 bring you an end to your frustration. At least you’ve got a little sunshine today.
Where are you now? (I know, I know, “at the ends of the Earth”, but the Earth has a lot of ends…)
I found Liz Ryan’s articles in LinkedIn both uplifting and practically useful while I was ‘between contracts’ last year.
Today is a HUGE day for me. If all goes as planned this will be a positive event. Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit! Sotd is Gucci Rush layered over Korres Jasmine body lotion. I need to feel simultaneously bad ass and divine. Lol!
Live BIG today! Go forward and expand.
Good luck!
You are badass and divine. Go out and own today!!
I hope it goes as planned.
Ooh, fingers crossed! ;^)
Thanks everyone!
Hey, NST, it’s Thursday, and I feel thankful while heading out the door for an overdue haircut.
SotD = Ambre Narguile for the third day. Yummy.
Almairac Handstand Friday here! Luckily i have some Zadig &Voltaire For Her in the bottom drawer of my desk so i can let the blood rush to my head as I spray. Perfect. Happy International Upside Down Day everyone!!!
Kanuka- thank you for making me literally laugh out loud (and quite loud ….luckily my office door is closed at the moment 🙂 !!)
I was watching video footage of the Vendée Globe solo sailboat racing competition and thinking of you, they are sailing near the Kerguelen Islands and it made me think of you on your island far out in the ocean. It must be so verdant and peaceful, I imagine in my head. Have a lovely day down under!
Multitasking! Perfect ????
Hello, all. I’ve been out for a few days, for no particular reason, just not feeling chatty, I think. Oddly, though, I’ve loved reading your chattiness. So. Last night on my way home, I sprayed myself with a Michael Kors thing from a square silver bottle, and thought,”Huh!” This morning, I can still smell it, and I’m thinking, “Mmmmmm!” I’m rather surprised at how beguiling this (whatever it is) is in its last minutes. But my proper SoTD, of course, will be something else. What, I do not know. I am doing a major dither about what wear, smell of and eat. Choice: not always a blessing…it’s nice to be back. Be well, all.
Well drat, I can’t even think of which Michael Kors thing that is!
How did it get to be December already? Wow. I am wearing modern L’Heure Bleue extrait this morning for a day of selling furniture on Craigslist. The new perfume cabinet displaced the old one and a vanity table and chair and must leave the house ASAP.
When I first read your comment I thought it said “for a day of SMELLING furniture.” Hee-hee. Good luck with your sale. I love it when things go on to a new life instead of being discarded. 🙂
same here….I am all for recycling.
Good luck with the selling. I was able to sell off a bunch of old toys and clothes that my daughter had outgrown when we moved home in August — getting that giant, beautiful wooden dollhouse (that she played with maybe twice in five years) out of my home office / guest room was a lovely feeling. Sending her wooden kitchen to a good home felt nice, too…until it was immediately replaced with a much larger piano. 😉 Growing up…hard to believe.
Time to break the leather – finally chilly in California 🙂 SOTD – Cuir Velour by very talented Naomi Goodsir.
You smell wonderful.
So happy to say goodbye to November. I’m wearing Gris Clair just because it’s so lovely and comforting.
Was anyone else excited about the le labor discovery sets they announced today? My Christmas shopppng just got easier.
nice choice!
Yesterday I noted I was falling for Rose de Petra, but I kept thinking, “don’t I have something very close to this?” Today I am putting it side by side with Cafe Rose and they are remarkably similar at the moment. Has any one else compared these two? Or others in the same family?
ooo interesting. I’ve smelled and worn both, and Rose de Petra didn’t remind me of that one. I only had a sample of Rose de Petra and it’s gone, but that’s curious!
I am at the end of cold, so my nose is likely highly unreliable.
I’ve worn both and have Rose de Petra. I think I think of CR as a more related to Agent Provacateur. RdP is more pink and fruity to me. More like Ann Gerard Rose Cut.
I’ve finally put out a tray of winter perfumes as I’ve been wanting to do for each season, yet haven’t. I had to clean the tarnish off my silver platter and then it was easy enough. I ended up grabbing 16 bottles to feature. Yikes, I know I’ve gone off the deep end when that seems perfectly normal. Sycomore EDT. Another crisp day.
It IS perfectly normal. And you smell fantastic.
That’s a lovely idea! I should do that — just need a nice platter. Hmm…
Not only normal, but on the restrained side of normal!
Real quick and then back to work: SOTD=Chanel Cuir de Russie. I promise I’ll read about everyone’s scented exploits later tonight!
You smell great, of course.
I’ll be wearing Nahema today. We have our work Christmas function this evening, it has a 70s theme. I’ve dug out some clothes that look a bit 70s, and putting them all together certain,y gives me the right look for the decade that taste forgot. Nahema may date from that decade, but it’s not in the same category as the clothes!
That sounds like heaps of fun! Our theme is the ’80s. It’s a bit hard for me to manage big hair these days, but I can ramp up my shoulder pads and wear scary blusher. I love Nahema, my only true rose scent. You smell gorgeous, and I hope your colleagues deserve it!
and even more fun! as I remember the 80s more than the 70s! Yup! Big hair, big shoulders, big perfume!
Didn’t someone say “If you remember the seventies, you weren’t really there”…?
Fun!
Wearing Lune Feline today…a Splitmeet spoil…
Spicy vanilla…perfect for fall.
I am doused in Tam Dao today. I got a full bottle when Diptyque was on Haute Look … they have some nice candles today (The Different Company, Jovoy, Floris if anyone is interested) but I’m resisting because of budget. Not because of all the candles I already have 🙄
I haven’t been on much lately, but I’m trying to remedy that. Anyway, I hope that everyone is having a nice fall and holiday season!
Nice to see you, and you smell lovely!
Wearing Hedonist Rose today. The opening white wine note is prominent and long lasting on my skin.
Days of wine and roses 🙂
The original Hedonist doesn’t do well on me, but I do like this, and the bottle is gorgeous.
SOTD Catbird Kitten solid perfume. And it is VERY solid. They also make a candle and I think this is just a tiny candle without the wick. It smells like a milky, waxy, musky, rose-violet lipstick thing. I have to scrape it out and melt it between my fingers to apply it. But it’s a fun scent.
I’ve never heard of this brand but the scent sounds pretty.
They’re actually a local jewelry store but have some scents and candles made for the store, and also carry a few from some other brands(a couple of DS & Durga and Rodin). They also have an online shop.
Aftelier’s AMBER Tapestry is my SoTD!
Wow, I sampled this based on your description last week and boy am I glad I did!! The Jasmine you mentioned hooked me right away!
I LOVE THIS! It is a comforting scent and just ehat I need on a day like today!!! It’s like silk pj’s!! Divine!!
That was Angie’s description, but I do like it too!
My SOTD is Chloe by by Michel Almairac.
This is the only fragrance that I have from the perfumer. I will probably wear it again tomorrow. This is one of my favorite scents that I wear often. I also like to spray this scent on my hair brush and brush my hair with it. I love when a breeze comes through and I get a whiff of the fragrance. Just so pretty!
Oh that is a pretty one! When it first came out I had a small 1 oz spray I had bought from Sephora which a younger family member quickly confiscated and called her own……I love this idea of spraying the hair brush!
I’m wearing Shalimar Ode […] Mexique.
I think the only thing I have by Michel Almairac is Bottega Veneta, so I know what I’ll be wearing tomorrow.
I’m scent twins with Elisa in TF Orchid Soleil. Really liking this! I am also very glad to see the back end of November, like many other folks here.
SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
Cozy fragrance and absolutely perfect. This one earned a spot in my Top Ten fragrances and will definetly cover cooler weather.
In other news, I will be opening Door #1 of my M. Micallef advent calendar tonight. Yippee!
Please report what treat you find behind door number one and enjoy!
Day One = Ananda !
I unscrewed the bottle to smell it and it is a fruity floral. I looked it up on Fragrantica and the base notes include vanilla, musk and mimosa which I didn’t get at all and need to wear the perfume to possibly detect these. The bottles are all splash so I need to line up my sample atomizers to spray wear. I struggled to open door #1 and had to resort to a pair of scissors to outline the scored opening…and I found out afterwards that the entire box can be opened and I could have had my pick of bottles and can peek on which perfume comes next, but I won’t as I am looking forward to being surprised!
