Happy International Men's Day! We're celebrating with our usual weekend open thread. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your absolute favorite men's fragrance, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: top image is Dried Fruit [cropped] by Gillian Thomas at flickr; some rights reserved.
I might wear Lalique Encre Noire to celebrate International Men’s Day.
Begs the question: which other masculine-assigned fragrances should be borrowed by women?
Encre Noire and Dior Homme 😀
Oooh, lots! Dior Homme, Hermes Bel Ami, and SL Cuir Mauresque are three that I wear happily quite often.
Love Cuir Mauresque and i think I really need to try Dior Homme…
Guerlain Vetiver, Prada Amber Pour Homme, Eau Sauvage.
I second the Prada!
Any single one that takes your fancy 😉
This ^ And MPG Ambre Precieux. It’s the one that made me realize that “for men” or “for women” are just marketing terms.
Such a great fragrance. My favourite masculine is L’Impacte de Pour un Homme, and Pour un Homme. Both gorgeous soft lavender vanilla’s.
This sounds great reading notes- off to order sample- thanks!
Terre d’Hermes. Chanel Egoiste.
Yes to Egoiste!
Double yes!
triple yes 🙂
Quadruple yes to Egoiste!
Guerlain L’Instant . Both versions…the extreme is the business. Most of the John Varvatos too.
I agree with the excellent suggestion of Dior Homme. I will add Guerlain Habit Rouge, which is Shalimar for men. It’s only fair to ‘steal’ it back!????
I especially love Habit Rouge Dress Code.
And Spicebomb. Me loves me some Spicebomb.
Me too. 🙂
Eau Sauvage! Le swoon! And Habit Rouge, Fou d’Absinthe, and Cumming: The Fragrance / 2nd Cumming.
Yatagan, vintage Grey Flannel, Old Spice
Yes, great picks.
I’m sampling Sonoma Scent Studio Voile de Violette this morning. It’s exactly what I had hoped Caron’s current version of Violette Precieuse would be … in fact, I should compare my little sample of the vintage version of CVP against VdV to see whether my scent memory is accurate. VdV is quite lovely, and as usual the description on the SSS website is spot on.
This is intriguing and I will check it out. I love violet.
Then you should also try Wood Violet, Lieu de Reves and To Dream by SSS
I got a teensy sample of Wood Violet with the rest of my SSS order and am looking forward to trying it. And now I have to add those other two to my list. 🙂
Alas I don’t care for wood Violet – but will try others.
Tried Wood Violet last night, and I’m with you, Amy – it doesn’t work for me either. Give Voile de Violette a try, though – I think you might like it much better.
Ditto
SOTD is MFK Feminin Pluriel. I wish the dusty iris/violet opening lasted for a little longer, it is such a delight.
You smell great!
Beautiful photo! Happy Day to all the men out there, too!
SOTD is Amber Flush Body Oil layered under Vanilla Flash edp. It’s a Tauer kind of day????
Happy weekend all!
Yes, it is. I’m wearing Amber Flush under Au Coeur du Desert.
Au Couer sounds great. I like LdDM, but find it a bit dry and somewhat sparse. How does Au Couer compare?
It’s warmer and woodier, less spicy.
And creamier, IMHO.
Good to know, thanks! I was hoping it might be a bit more juicy than LdDM, which leaves me bone dry and parched. I will add this to my sample list.
Half-twin! I’m in Vanilla Flash. You smell great!
Twins, half twins, quarter twins, it’s all good because we smell great ????
Question: I tried Parfums de Nicolai Maharanhi (something looks wrong in the spelling there, but I hope you know what I mean) and fell in love. However, Luckyscent and Twisted Lily only have Maharanhi Intense. Has anyone tried both? Would I be safe in ordering the Intense without trying it specifically?
Hi. I too fell deeply and immediately for Maharanhi, from a sample sent to me by lovely Gaynor. I was lucky enough to have a staff member going to LA for a conference, and she very kindly went to Lucky Scent for me and bought me what I thought, until five minutes ago, was a bottle of Maharanih. Turns out, because I just checked, that she got me Maharanih Intense, and I hadn’t even noticed! I just opened the packet, gloated and sprayed for instant yum! So here’s the thing: either my nose is lousy –very possible– or the two perfumes are so similar it doesn’t matter. I don’t want to give advice, but I will say that I love my MI quite stupidly, wear it often, smugly receive compliments on it (honestly, you’d think it was my creation, not simply my purchase!) and generally am delighted to own it.
Can’t get much better than that. Thanks!
And I was worried for a moment that I’d created confusion, but I’ve just checked and I’ve got Maharanih. I’ve got Sacrebleu Intense, and I don’t know how it compares to the non-intense.
I love sacre bleu intense with a passion!- never tried the original.
Me to! Instant desire, and the wish tomown became the father of the deed to purchase!
That would be “me too” above, but I actually came backnto say that the same staff member seems to planning a long weekend in LA to shop –how do these kids find the energy, stamina –oh, and money? — so I am seriously thinking of a blind buy of PdeN Vanille Tonka. She’s a willing mule…it seems too good an opportunity to miss!
Vanilla Tonka is lovely, sounds like an opportunity too good to miss, definitely!
Hi NST,
Today is my first time wearing Atelier Cologne Camelia Intrepide. It’s more green & leafy than I expected it to be but it dries down to something really nice.
I got this one along with Emeraude Agar. Seeing agar in the name I didn’t think I would like it but on first impression I actually liked this one more than Camelia. Go figure!
I haven’t tried Emeraude Agar, but I love Camelia Intrepide. I’m glad to hear someone else enjoys it.
Yes!
I still haven’t tried the new Ateliers yet and now I see there is an even newer one…Clementine California? I think Sephora is going to be carrying it and it is already in the Sephora Nomade III set….anyone try it?
It only just launched this week. I think it will go into wider distribution in January 2017
Happy weekend, all! After a beastly week at work, I am so happy it’s the weekend, finally. And soon to be rainy, perfect for curling up with a book, a cup of tea, and a cat or two. Well it would be a perfect day for relaxing, but we have guests coming for dinner, so shortly I will be racing about the house, picking up, and starting food prep. And one of the cats currently has the wackies and is tormenting the other cat. Reality never quite matches up with my fantasy life, sigh.
Yesterday I received my 10ml spray of Hiram Green Arbole Arbole. It’s definitely a Proper Perfume with a vintage vibe, as is usual for him. What it isn’t, on me, is any of the advertised notes (patchouli, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla). I get mainly cloves, cinnamon, bit o’ anise, bit o’ green (oakmoss), bit o’ floral (geranium? carnation?) He lists the ingredients on the box, so I had some fun googling them, and felt like quite the smart girl as the ingredient list matched what I smelled. 🙂
But overall, it doesn’t work for me. So it needs to find a new home. Swap or sale anyone? Ping me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of gee-mayle.
PSA, Mandy Aftel’s annual open house is December 2-4, 10am-5pm, in Berkeley. And boo hiss, I’ll be out of town that weekend, but maybe some other Bay Area NST’ers will get to attend. One of these years I’ll get to her studio…
I don’t get the cedar or sandalwood either, although I do get a certain kind of green and waxy patchouli. I find I like it in the right, fairly small, amounts. Too much and a waxiness pervades that I don’t love, at least not yet. But I can definitely see this not working for someone!
Tried Arbole Arbole today and I don’t smell patchouli. Instead I smell something like roses and saffron/clove combo
Wow totally different on me. No roses for sure. And I think I know what cloves smell like, but will have to double check!
I actually tried some new, at least to me, fragrances. So I finally sampled l’Envol, which is gorgeous. Retried Myths Woman which I adore: besides it comes with this wonderfully trashy bottle. I also tried the Amouage Lilac which wasn’t a hit, and that’s putting it mildly. The last one was Cuir by Parfumérie Moderne. Good, but not unmissable.
I just tried Envol as well and quite like it. I plan to try Lilac Love tomorrow and am hoping I hate it as my budget is exhausted for the year already. 😉
Well mine isn’t quite, but almost everything on my wishlist is expensive.
I loathed Lilac Love. Mind you, only one try on paper, but no wish to repeat the experience.
Wearing Cuir Mauresque, which is what I wore yesterday as well. I guess I’m too lazy (or satisfied) to change.
One of my favorites. You smell wonderful!
Ditto!
Yum!
I do not own any men’s fragrances but I must say that I would pay a pretty penny for any perfume that evokes (okay, maybe transcribes!) that deliciously Christmas-y photo. Y – U- M!
Dried fruit = Serge Lutens. Have you tried Bois et Fruits?
Hmmm…. I must have because SL is available at all Sephoras so I guess it did not leave too much of an impression on me.
Right now, I have a sample of Botrytis on one wrist and Ambre Narguille on the other. Leaning towards the latter, which unfortunately, has the higher price point, can barely smell Botrytis.
Yes, I do want to smell like a bubbling cauldron of mulled wine…
Thanks for
Sharing the comparison- the Hermes sounds like it’s worth testing.
i Profumi di Firenze Spezie de Medici!
Just read a description of the fragrance notes and well, it fits the bill in that sense, the cost of international shipping is another matter!
May have to keep my eyes open for any upcoming art history conferences in Italy to justify a trip.
I’ll humbly admit that Creed’s Aventus is my favorite on my husband. All that lively pineapple is so tart and zippy, and feels very different from my experience with traditionally marketed “masculines.” This is certainly the energy I think “fresh” scents should channel.
I snatched a spritz from my husband’s bottle and plan to spend the afternoon relaxing with some sleepy kitties in a cloud of pineapple.
Sleepy kitties in a cloud of pineapple, that sounds like heaven.
It does…
Wearing L’Attesa today, as I have been often recently. It helps with my funk.
Question: any opinions yet about the Chanel exclusive EDPs vs the EDTs? Misia is the one I care about the most, but also generally curious.
I do not like the Misia edp sadly, it smells flat compared to the edt.
Sorry to but in here! Luckily I got a discounted bottle of Misia edt, my first Exclusif, I was wondering if anyone has tried coromandel or no.22, in Edp?
I have tried Coromandel and Beige and didn’t find a lot of difference. I think I like the top notes of Beige better in EDP. I think these two might have translated quite well. Haven’t tried 22, sorry.
Thanks!
Thanks! I had wondered how Beige translated.
I’ve tried both! Found Coromandel basically unchanged, but 22 is MUCH weaker than the bottle of EDT I bought maybe 5 years ago.
Thanks Ari, good news for Coromandel then, but no 22 weaker in edp?, that’s really sad..
You smell delish
Thank you! It’s one of my very favorite perfumes.
I sniffed them all a week or two ago and overall was not impressed. I had read somewhere in a forum thread (maybe even the one below) that 31 RC was almost not recognizable in the EDP and thought the person was exaggerating but alas, most sadly, she was not. 31 RC EDP is an epic fail. I believe CdR is mostly a success. I snagged EDT backup bottles of several while they were still available like the good paranoid perfumista I am. There are many exclusif EDTs still being sold on eBay btw…so you can still get the EDTs. Some people think Chanel destroyed all the unsold EDTs but I believe Chanel participates in the gray market somewhere in the food chain based on the sheer volume available on eBay.
This Basenotes thread has lots of good reports from agents in the field on the EDP/EDT differences
http://www.basenotes.net/threads/427820-Les-Exclusifs-de-Chanel-EDPs?highlight=chanel+exclusifs
Thanks she-ra, this is such helpful info!
Coincidentally, I am sampling New Musk Man today. So far, all of Dame Perfumery’s male scents seem perfectly unisex to me. The only ones I haven’t tried are Leather Man and Citrus Man, and I think that I’ll order the travel sizes of those to see if I like them as well as the ones I’ve got.
I have either full size bottles or travel sprays of all of the Dame mens and they are definitely unisex…and my 76 year old mother rocks in Citrus Man…also Dark Horse is great on a woman….
Dark Horse is one of my favorites.
Mr. Spicebomb and I are sampling cakes this afternoon and going to a hockey game tonight. I’m trying to decide what to spritz post-shower–maybe Dries Van Noten? The cautious spiciness won’t interfere with cake tasting, but it will be cozy when the draft whooshes up off the ice. . .
That sounds like my idea of a perfect day. I think Dries van Noten is a perfect choice. Have fun!
It should be good! I think I’m deciding to delay my other chores and enjoy a relaxing day. Dries will be good company!
Food sampling was my favorite part of wedding planning. Have fun!
Thank you! It’s a tough job, but we’re willing to make sacrifices for our guests. 😉
You know what? I should volunteer to do all my sister’s cake sampling as a kind of “sacrifice” on HER behalf, given she needs to stay in shape for her dress.. Thanks for the idea!
What a fantastic idea!! So generous and giving. 😀
Ah, the Winterhawks – have fun! On cakes, are you trying Jaciva? Just curious (and not even sure they’re still in business).
Last weekend, we went to Miss Zumstein’s, and they set a VERY high bar. The cakes tasted dense, flavorful, and homemade. The frostings tasted like frosting, not that weird plasticky stuff many commercial bakeries use.
Today we go to Piece of Cake. In a couple of weeks, we try Papa Hayden. I have had some great cakes from Ja Civa’s, and they are in our back pocket if we decide we need another option. I know they would do a good job. However, we are finding ourselves wanting to go smaller, if we can find an option we like. (LOVE their Taste of Heaven cupcake with the chocolate-dipped mousse on top!)
I would go with Papa Haydn myself, but I am biased as my niece’s wedding cake was super good!
They look beautiful on their website! I’m not sure I’ve ever had anything from their baker before, though. I’m looking forward to giving it a try! (And thank you for the correct spelling!)
Mmmmm….Papa Hyden. Everything I’ve ever had there has been wonderful.
Mmm, cakes and hockey, sounds great! And I love DVN.
It’s looking like a good day!
Hope you enjoy cake sampling. We knew going in which cake we wanted since we were using the same bakery my cousin had used (she just stacked two round raspberry and white chocolate cakes and called it a day), so I almost missed out on that fun aspect of planning. Then I had the inspiration to just do a dessert buffet with a couple of my favorite cakes and loads of trifle, chocolates, tarts and other dainties. The guests loved it and it meant that we had leftover Black Forest cake to snack on once the dress pressure was off 😉
We are *definitely* hoping there will be leftovers!
We’ve played with the idea of having a sweets table, but I still want a proper wedding cake. Since the wedding is in July, we’ve also toyed with the notion of having old-fashioned ice cream novelties available before the service–a big cooler full of drumsticks and creamsickles and such. I think it’s a super-fun idea, but I’m not sure anyone would actually partake and we’d be left with 50 ice cream bars.
How fun! I would love to see that at any wedding I went to. ????
Credit goes to Mr. Spicebomb. It’s his idea! I’m the annoyingly practical one whose sitting around imagining how to make use of dry ice, etc, so it doesn’t all melt. 🙂
I will selfless volunteer to eat the leftovers.
selflessly
That’s really quite generous of you!
SotD = Dior Homme for Men’s Day and because it gets so much love here. I think I love it, too.
I visited Sephora last night where a nice SA latched on to me. I guess I looked overwhelmed. It was loud and crowded while we enjoyed talking fragrance.
I was looking for new scents for married friends who are celebrating their anniversary. They are having a party with “no gifts please”. When I gently pressed the issue, one half of the couple mentioned they would both enjoy help finding new fragrances. Challenge accepted.
I was holding the tester of Dior Homme as I walked the fragrance wall, so the SA made a sample. I told him my story, and we decided a sample of Stella EdP would be another good one for my friends to try. I really like Stella but it disappears quickly. Or perhaps my nose was burnt out from all the sniffing last night.
Gentlemen, enjoy your day. And I wish all of NST a good weekend. Popcorn and Netflix for everyone! You deserve it.
You smell great. I think Stella is a good choice: it’s a good frag (one of my faves) and is neither too challenging nor too boring. I’m still finishing the last of my stockpile of the original formula, so I don’t know what the longevity is like on the reformulation…
Stella is very nice. I will spritz again to check the longevity. I hope it was just my nose was tired yesterday. Dior Homme is good too, I may have a hard time giving up these samples.
Hello! Men’s day? Harrumph! So what’s new about that? Mind you, though I’m iffy about Men as a concept (if you see what I mean) I am happy to celebrate individuals and my own dear one in particular, and I shall do this by nicking his Eaux Des Baux and spraying lavishly. We went to Les Baux the last time we were in France, but my memories are hazy. I recall an exquisitely pretty stone village, a viciously cold wind, an extremely expensive but perfectly horrible restaurant and a snooty waiter who spilt water all over me with such thoroughness it seemed practised. Perhaps he hated Kiwis. I like Eaux Des Baux, though….it’s made me feel moderately cheerful about tackling the housework.
Mmm, EdB is definitely borrow-worthy!
Your mention of Les Baux reminded me of a romance novel I read years ago called Madam, Will You Talk, about a young widow who goes to a village near Les Baux with an artist friend from school, and has quite an adventure. Gets chased by a dark, handsome and tortured man through the French countryside, ending up at the Chateau d’If. (I think that was the name – a castle on an island, I think?) There’s even an FBI agent involved, or maybe he was a Treasury official. Fluffy fun reading.
I think I might have read that. Was it by Mary Stewart, before her King Arthur period?
Politely butting in. Yes, that was the wonderful Mary Stewart. I think of the novels before the Merlin ones as her “travelogue” books because while I don’t always remember the plots, I do remember the settings.
I remember one with a dolphin–was it called This Rough Magic? A lovely fluff, wasn’t it? I must say that the Merlin books were so different and so much better written (hazy memory again!) that they seemed almost to be by a different person.
Yes, Mary Stewart, in the mid-50’s. Her romance novels were also very well written, some more so than others. I fell in love with her descriptions of her stories’ settings. One was set on Skye, and she brought it to mind so clearly that it made me physically yearn to go there. The Moon Spinners made me want to visit Crete.
Our school library had all of the Mary Stewart romances (why?!) and I haven’t read them in ages. You may have just triggered a reading binge.
I loved all of her books, and you’re so right about the settings. Crete! How romantic!
Glad you said it waterdragon! definitely what I was thinking.
Yes, isn’t every day men’s day? Not that I don’t love my own personal man, but millenia of patriarchy has not been all that enjoyable.
Lol.Eau de Baux is a gorgeous cheapie.
I started the day in Jour d’Hermes, and after my shower put on some Agonist Arctic Jade to sample. It seems nice but very fleeting, so I’ll get to make a third perfume choice soon. I may circle back to Jour d’Hermes because it is just so darn lovely.
My husband wears Terre d’Hermes and smells incredible. I tried it one night when he was out of town and I missed him terribly, and it smelled like wretched evil on me. We obviously have very different skin chemistry.
Next time spritz it on a shirt and wear that. 🙂
Favorite men’s fragrance? Hmm. I think that would have to be Old Spice.
SOTD is Tauerville Vanilla Flash. The cozy smell matches the mood–though perhaps not the visual–of my current ensemble, which is a fuscia-and-white striped shirt and navy-blue-with-white-stars flannel pajama pants.
Twins!
Oh yes to Old Spice….going back 30 years ago my boss wore that one every day and it smelled amazing!
Hiram Green Arbole Arbole today and wahoo, it’s a winner in my book. Having read the comments above, it is NOT for everyone. On me, it starts almost fougere-like, green with vetiver and what smells to me like a watery flower (thinking lily but it is certainly not listed in the notes). Further development reminds me of Oriza L. Legrand Cypre Mousse, less earthy and not as dense.
Now off to get a haircut!
Ah, nothing like a cut to make one feel all fresh and new!
Yes…rinse and repeat every 4-5 weeks.
Fresh hair is the best!
I agree 🙂
I had my hair done today too!
And wow, seems like Arbole Arbole smells different on each of us here
Are we twins or what! I am curious as to what other bloggers think of it!
Ambre des Merveilles since I forgot to apply perfume this morning and this was the best choice from my purse perfume emergency stash
You smell great!
SOTD is OJ Ormonde Man. Because I’ve just been in that sort of mood this week.
I wasn’t aware such a day as international men’s day even existed before popping in here today. I’m so on point. 😉
You are indeed!
Skive for me today . The bottle is nearly empty . Do I re-purchase or move on? For some reason repurchased bottles never give me the thrill of a new discovery, and they tend not to be used. With some exceptions.
Depends how much you love it. I repurchase scents that are in my top 10.
Nah–break new ground like the free spirit you are. It will still be around if you decide you can’t live without it, but you might find something new and wondrous.
Talking not of perfume but of shoes, I can give Robin an enormous enabler pin! A few weeks ago, Robin put up a picture of a pair of shoes, I followed the source of the link to a consignment site called The RealReal, and I’m now the new owner of several pairs of wonderful and frivolous shoes that I could never have got in this part of the world 🙂
So, along with perfume, I now have an addiction to second hand designer shoes.
I think I’ll celebrate the second sunny day in a row here with Jour d’Hermès Absolu, courtesy of the very generous Kanuka.
Not sure if they ship overseas, but for some luxe-eyecandy,check out luxity dot co dot za.I have my eye on a LV bag…(secondhand, awesome condition, not affiliated!)
I love their bags – I got a few really expensive bags for 10% of the retail – v happy
How funny!
Hey, have you find across the Melbourne(I think; Aussie anyway) company called Shoes of Prey that lets you design your own shoes? They provide the shapes — basic brogue, ballet flat, boot, heel, pump, etc) and you choose the colours & materials. I’m soooooo deeply tempted…it’s a lot of fun to play on line and come up with the perfect shoe.
It’s a gorgeous day, weather wise, and I’m feeling particularly energized, so multitasking by tackling laundry and doing a side-by-side comparison of Ted Lapidus Silk Way and Barbara Bui. Definitely some similarities but SW is more light hearted and cooler with that little hint of apple, while BB is woodier and feels more serious, though both share that cozy comfort. Contemplating whether owning both is in order as I do like both and my BB decant is nearly done.
I love Silk away! It’s a funny little number, unassumingly pretty, then suddenly gleams up. I think of it as the perfume equivalent of one of those cliche makeover moments in movies when the librarian rips of her spectacles, let’s down her hair, undoes her two top buttons, and comes over all anyhow….Vavoom! I’m a vamp!
Dammit! Silk Way, not Silk away! !!! Can I type nothing correctly today?
I blame autocorrect. 🙂
Ha! I like that analogy, though it never struck me as having that vamp factor. But I suppose it has a hidden sensuality about it. I wear it mostly at home, at night, since it feels calming and sedating. It is a great little number, though, and underrated methinks.
Happy Men’s Day…Lol.Being a man-child myself,I tend to not think men in general need anymore “celebrations” for them/about them…Lol.I did hope for a female President for you America…Anyway!!Sotd!Shalimar Parfum Initial.Still the best flanker-IMHO-ever.And sadly discontinued.Guerlain lost the plot there, methinks.X
ITA on all points!
Just got out of the shower and applied my “accidental” homemade lotion….the “accident” was that when I thought I was adding copious amounts of patchouli to an already existing lotion of Alba Botanicals Unscented + peppermint e.o.+ bitter almond e.o. turned out to be copious amounts of vetiver which is not my favorite e.o.
But actually now that I have been using it for a few days the smell of vetiver is really growing on me….and I drained yet another essential oil bottle in my relatively large e.o. collection….
Favorite Men’s colognes…..Herrara for Men, Drakkar Noir, all the ones from Dame Perfumery (including Dark Horse), 1000 Flowers Ode for Him, Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and Lavender & Amber, Ineke Field Notes from Paris, Chanel Egoiste…oh boy, I really could go on and on and on!
Old Spice, Grey Flannel, Joop! for Men, Paul Sebastian…..
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and Ineke Field Notes from Paris are my favorites as well.
That is a funny accidental way to learn to love vetiver!
Has AG Heure Exquise ever been made in extrait concentration? I just received a 30ml bottle purchased off ebay. It is a blind buy so I don’t know what it’s supposed to smell like, though I seem to pick up the notes it’s supposed to contain- green/galbanum, sandalwood, a little rose. i find it a little too sharp/sour for my liking. Maybe that it has turned? 🙁
I think it has by the sound of it, unless it reacts really badly with you’re skin chemistry..
To me, T.S’s review in The Guide is spot on, which is something along the lines of “.. HE is like sinking into a feather bed”. It is so soft, powdery and comforting.
I’m not sure about an extrait version tho.
Ha, sinking into a feather bed.. that sounds lovely. Now that it’s been a while, it is as you describe- soft, powdery and comforting. The beginning is very green and harsh though. It may be a combination of top notes burning off + there being too much galbanum for my liking..
It does sound like that topnotes may have gone off. (And I love galbanum, but HE is pretty heavy on the galb for a while early on, so I can see it not being to someone’s taste.)
As far as I know, HE was once made in edp but no longer; now all you can get (fresh) is the edt. AG also made a dry body oil which was mostly rose and sandalwood and it was really lovely. Good luck finding THAT, though (and if you do, we’ll all be jealous).
The EDP’s still available on the AG website and beautyspin.co.uk – may be a US thing?
Ah, it’s on Amazon.com too ($94 – cheaper than here!)
Hmm I am going to contact AG to ask about my bottle.
I also blind-bought HG and found it awful–too sharp and terribly green. I learned later that I like galbanum in extremely small doses and HG is loaded with it. I get nothing soft or comforting from it, more like bitter green spikes hammered up my nose.
Isn’t it interesting how we interpret the same scents so differently? I am always amazed.
I think I am with you on liking galbanum in tiny doses. I find many chypres too harsh, and that includes Chanel 19. Sacrilege, i know! ‘bitter green spikes hammered up my nose’ sounds about right 🙂
I didn’t like the opening of Heure Exquise, but I am really enjoying the drydown. I may be able to tolerate the opening to reach the latter stages…?
It reminds me of No 19. I just got a decant from a generous NSTer and I haven’t smelled it in a while, and the decant smells much greener than I remember it smelling. The last time I smelled it was about a year ago at an AG boutique and I remember it being more sandalwood, creamy iris so I wonder if it’s been reformed with the green toned down. I happen to like green, so I’m happy with it as it is.
It is funny, isn’t it? “Terribly green” is just usually “something that makes me really happy.” And other people’s “oh yay, vetiver” is my “oh LORD no not more swamp water and celery.”
(I always think – no offense to you vetiver lovers, because you probably hate some of my favorite notes – when someone calls vetiver “green,” I’m over here in my corner going What, are you people on CRACK???
😀
Mals, have you ever smelled a really good vetiver e.o.? Because I’ve yet to smell a vetiver perfume that smells anything like the real thing. I actually think you’d like the e.o.
Mals- I am right there with you on the vetiver….I have even explored variations of vetiver essential oils (including double distilled from Eden Botanicals which is supposed to be smoother and easier to tolerate) but that still did not generate a love for the note or essential oil….however, with the “accident” from my comment above (or is it below ???) vetiver e.o. IS starting to grow in me….I guess I am forcing myself to de-sensitize to it….just out of curiosity, have you tried Angel Muse?
Oh and my interpretation of “green” would be galbanum….if you can get your hands on some e.o. of that one and then you will see what I mean!
Heehee! it is really strange, how we all interpret scent differently and that’s what makes this such a delightful and fascinating hobby, isn’t it?
The opening of Heure Exquise is rather sharp. I happen to enjoy it a lot, you might start enjoying it after a couple more wears.
I don’t think it was ever made as an extrait de parfum. Just edp and edt.
I bought Heure Exquise when it first came out and was exclusive to SFA…guessing the late 90s? I bought it blind by calling the store and ordering with a credit card and when I got it I was disappointed…did not hate it but did not love it….a co-worker of mine absolutely adored it so I gifted her the full bottle….have not sniffed it since then…wonder if I would like it now as I do like no 19 and green scents as well as galbanum essential oil which I have added to numerous things…..
Several years ago I loved HE and thought it was one of the prettiest perfumes I owned at the time. Recently it was a very uneven experience for me – sometimes I still enjoy wearing it, other days it seems harsh and tiresome.
I can send you a sample from my bottle if you want to try it (send me a note, e-mail address on the About page through the avatar).
Undina- your offer is incredibly kind and generous but for now I will pass as I am still making my way through copious amounts of samples, full bottles and all of my essential oils….I want to whittle down my collection before I take on anything new 🙂
Been there, done that 🙂
Let me know if/when you change your mind.
TriesToBeClassy, I have a vintage Passion parfum, and since Heure Exquise was contemporaneous, so I believe that it, too, must have been available in parfum concentration at around the same time (probably the 1980s). The bottle is rectangular and holds one ounce.
I don’t have the parfum concentration of Heure Exquise, but I do have a vintage EdP, as well as one from around 2009. I think one might say the vintage smells a bit sharper because it has real sandalwood, oak moss, etc. There’s more contrast, more light and dark, compared with the contemporary versions, which rely more on modern musks.
That said, I actually like both versions, which is unusual for me (I normally tend to prefer vintage).
At a later date, I believe Songes was also sold in parfum concentration in the butterfly bottle. I don’t remember if others were, as well.
So it’s possible that you have a parfum version if you have an older bottle, and it is going to smell different even if it is in good condition.
Mine is also a square 30ml bottle, with the label hanging(?) on a gold string tied around the neck. You probably solved my mystery! Thank you 😀
I am curious about the modern EdP and EdT. I should order a sample to compare.
1984 was the release date….I too have a square bottle of Eau de Ciel which was how the 30ml were sold in Paris (where I acquired my bottle from in the early 90s)…not sure if that is an indication of its concentration as my EdC was an EDT….
A rainy, rainy weekend here; making oatmeal cookies is the full extent of my plans for today, and I’m in DSH’s beautiful, rainy-day-appropriate Celadon. I think this must be what the elves in The Lord of the Rings smell like — silky, ethereal, silvered green-ness with no sharp edges.
Wow, I love your Lord of the Rings tie-in! I’m adding this to my try-list. And could I try your oatmeal cookies?? My favorite kind!
They’re straight outta the Joy of Cooking, so you easily *could* try them! In my opinion, some of the Rombauers’ recipes are the culinary equivalent of a mic drop — no one needs to publish another banana bread recipe after theirs, for instance, and their oatmeal cookies are my idea of perfect.
Celadon really is lovely — do give it a sniff if you’re a fan of violet leaf-centric fragrances.
Loving the picture you’re painting. Can you paint me right in? I’m down to hang out with some elves. 😉
Gorgeous description! I love silvery green as a colour. Don’t think we can get DSH in the UK (just as well maybe).
I’m in a dab of Chanel Misia from a sample today, a gift from a fellow perfumista! It’s been great as I’ve been scurrying around taking care of the kids and my husband, who’s down with the flu (quarantined in the second bedroom). He even got the flu shot this year, but apparently he caught a different strain. Wouldn’t you know it? Fingers crossed that no one else comes down with it!
On my Christmas wish list is Auphorie Zen – it could definitely be worn by a man, though my husband would probably say the opening is too bright/fruity for him. It’s fabulous!!! Do give it a try if you can. I ordered a sample of Miyako and added the Zen, but Zen ended up being the winner. Real oakmoss in it, too.
Hope he’s better soon and you all stay healthy!
Thank you!!!
I wore Aramis 900 earlier, so I’m accidentally on topic, though it was mainly because I have a cold and didn’t want to risk spoiling something I love more. Got it from TKMaxx.
I rather like 1725 Histoires de Parfum – have an eye on the travel size.
I’m eying up the 15ml of 1889, Moulin Rouge, I haven’t tried any of the others, it seems like such an interesting line tho, so nice to always have new lines to explore.
Inadvertently wearing what is often listed as a men’s scent but I find totally unisex – Voleur de Roses. I realized the other day that this, Dzongkha, Nuit de Tubéreuse and Traversée du Bosphore are some of my best loved scents. It seems L’Artisan is one of my favourite houses.
Voleur de Roses is also one of my favorites from L’AP. And a recent addition is Seville a L’Aube. I’m probably the last person here to smell it and to fall in love with it!
I wore Seville a l’aube yesterday, it’s so gorgeous! Interestingly, it was much less sweet than usual, much more aromatic, and I got a hint of the incense too, maybe it’s the cold weather do u think?
Dzonka is a new love too, and looking forward to trying the others u mentioned soon!
As it appears that I’m mostly in the company of women, I’ll ask a quick poll-type question… I wear a suit six days a week for work. It is a boarding school (though I do not board), and, as a teacher in the arts department, I feel an onus to indulge in a certain amount of drag (vintage suits, nostalgic pattern mixing, etc.) I gravitate towards masculine (not macho) classics with good bones (currently in the cabinet are Caron Pour un Homme, Eau Sauvage, and Old Spice; Guerlain Vetiver is high on my wish list.) I’m a bit of a sucker for designer/democratic (most of my suits are from the thrift store.) Can anyone suggest a good winter cologne along these lines, preferably not too challenging to sample or obtain? Thanks!
Have you tried Lalique Encre Noire?
Oops accidentally commented below instead, but meant to do it here. I wanted to also suggest Terre d’Hermes 🙂
Thanks so much for these suggestions! I admire both of them objectively (I have a mostly full 1.7 )Z of Terre d’Hermes) , but unfortunately, something about ISO E Super and my nose/throat do not agree…
Ah, understandable. In that case I might suggest Sycomore, but that is definitely a little harder to sample/obtain 🙁 Luckily everyone else has left plenty of marvelous suggestions, too.!
I am going to suggest Dame Citrus Man.
If you are in the US you can get a sample for free (and 9 times out of 10 Jeffrey Dame will mail you 3-4 samples instead of just one). Below is the link with info on how to get your free sample.
https://dameperfumery.com/pages/dame-perfumery-postcard-samples
Leather Man and Herb Man are also quite good (and classic) too and a full size bottle is incredibly reasonable in price…also if you do try the sample program there is the high likelihood that you will get a 10% off code towards your next purchase…and if you don’t want to commit to a full bottle the travel sprays are under ten dollars with free shipping.
I will check these out… I’ve never come across them (I’m based on the West coast of Canada — not as much selection outside of Vancouver), but research is a big part of the pleasure for me — Thanks!
Hi John, you may have already discovered this, but the full range of Dame perfumes is available from etiket.ca.
I’ve been sick in bed, and decided to play with unsniffed samples. I finally tried Leather Man, and you haven’t been kidding, it’s fantastic! Unfortunately I also sampled Ellipsis, by DL 10 Crosby, I have to go scrub now.
I know…isn’t Leather Man fantastic!!!
Have u tried le 3 Homme de Caron?, lavender, vetiver and spices, citrus and woody, gorgeous this time of year I think, tho maybe more for spring and Autumn than winter.
I obtained my husbands bottle for about £25 on eBay, so a bargain too!
Agreed, explore more of the Caron masculines — Le 3eme Homme, Yatagan (this one can really split opinions but I like it).
Thanks! I sampled all three Carons while on vacation in NYC a few years back, and own PuH (more or less my signature) and Yatagan (a beautiful art piece that unfortunately burns my throat a bit in heavy application). I’ll look for the Third Man, which I recall as being lovely.
Actually I do own one men’s cologne: a sample of Caron’s Troisième Homme but I had intended to order Pour un Homme. I had read in the Perfume Guide that the latter is a sweet lavender vanilla rather than the vial (though not vile) of piney minty lavender that I just retrieved from the back of my drawer.
To change the subject entirely: I just tossed a couple of cardamom in my hot chocolate just because… Verdict: strangely adds more body to my wimpy skim milk base. Creamy and lush.
Regarding Pour un Homme (I seem to go through gallons of the stuff). It is sweet (though not cloying) once the vanilla kicks in… Depending on the age of your sample, the vanilla may not be as pronounced (older formulations had a heavier musk, whereas newer bottles are sheerer with a stronger vanilla.) It does smell ‘minty’, though most argue that this is the camphorous aspect of the lavender (and possible a touch of rosemary) rather than mint itself. Rosemary may also explain the terpenic (piney) note you are getting. Fragrantica only lists lavender, vanilla and musk as notes, but supporting these are a touch of citrus in the opening, rosemary and sage supporting the herbal accord of lavender, and a lovely tonka bean bridging the gap between the cool, astringent opening and the warm, almost oriental base. It is a great scent for women too (my son’s girlfriend stole the half-bottle I passed on to him.)
Thank you for taking the time to explain all the nuance of the Caron. I will certainly make sure that I order the correct version the next time I splurge on samples… Can’t wait to test it out!
Your current list made me think of Cartier Declaration (in department stores here in Germany, hope easily sniffable where you are too).
Thank you! I’ll give it another try (it’s at the Sephora in town)… I really want to like it, but the last time I sampled it, the iris/orris root note seemed to dominate everything — maybe just a quirk of my chemistry?
My suggestions: Bottega Veneta Pour Homme and Atelier Cologne Oud Saphir.
I would suggest trying the more classical Hermes fragrances, such as Bel Ami, Equipage and Eau d’Orange Vert. Thank you for smelling great!

Oooh, also Terre d’Hermes!! Just noticed someone mentioned that in an above comment 🙂
I’m down with the flu ( I did get a flu shot), so, no scent for me except Brown Sugar and Fig shower gel. My favorite men’s scent is Carolina Herrera, Herrera. I haven’t smelled the current version, but the original was so so sexy.
OMG! I am addicted to Brown Sugar and Fig shower gel…wish it wasn’t a discontinued scent ……and sorry to hear that you have the
flu:(
The one with the box that has the dots( referring to the Herrera)??? I dated someone that wore that years ago and it smelled amazing!!!!
“who” wore that years ago….my grammar…sheeshh!!!
Yes, that’s the one, I never hear Herrera for men mentioned. I’m hoping brown sugar and fig comes back for the January sale.
My husband too… sore throat, fever, terrible headache?? Do feel better soon!!
I hope your husband feels better soon. This is really awful.
So sorry, hope it is short-lived!
Thank you.
Let’s hear it for all the nice guys in our lives, including the fellows here on nst…
I agree!!!
Last night I watched Star Trek Beyond with my boys. There must have been something in the air, because I kept trying to imagine Star Trek developing aliens as main characters–a whole race–not just some token, that messed with the binary gender assumptions we have. What about a species with four genders? So, as I was musing (the movie itself was way too predictable and the cliches felt annoying rather than like family, if you know what I mean….) I said, well at least there are a couple of strong women in this. And my 10th grader says to me, “But this movie would definitely not pass the Bechdel test.” I nearly fell out of my chair. Oh Bowie… Ch ch ch changes! are coming.
Anyway, abandoning the spirit of gender-neutrality, I took a look at some of my frequent perfumes that are/were marketed to men. Here are my faves: (that I actually own in FBs):
Egoiste
Encre Noire
Yatagan
Ouarzazate
Concentre d’Orange verte
Chergui
I’m back in plumber-defying Mitzah today, with just a teensy spritz of Ouazazate that I couldn’t resist as I was putting this list together.
Your son amazes me! Fantastic!
I love that story, Oakland Fresca!
Thanks for sharing that wonderful story 🙂
(Also, Chergui is marketed to men?? I had no idea!)
Excellent! And you smell wonderful.
Has anyone tried the current version of Equipage or Equipage Geranium?
“plumber-defying” 🙂 And nice job, Mom.
Sending a shout out to our male posters who help keep things lively and would certainly be missed should they fall away.
Wearing Guerlain Heritage, a lovely updating of Old Spice imho (no offense intended, jpg).
Now that gets my attention… I’m really very fond of Old Spice, but the materials and presentation have gone downhill over the years IMHO, so I’m curious to hear of things that channel the same old book/spices feeling with better materials. This was, in fact, part of the reason for my inquiring about Equipage. I’ve never tried Equipage or Heritage, but both sound right up my alley, and both are carried by a supplier in Montreal I sometimes use (we Canadians have to get around the US duty, so ordering is tricky!) I’d be curious to hear how other posters regard either scent through the lens of Old Spice-ness…
SOTD was Lubin “Idole” (again) and SOTE is Keiko Mecheri “Ume” – I’m not sure what unites such a pair, but I have enjoyed them both and that’s what counts, right? Anyway they lifted a day dedicated mostly to paperwork, although I did treat myself to a new mobile phone (which I shall spend the next week swearing at as I try to master it) and went for a curry in the evening.
Sitting here in Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple, waiting for an Atlas V rocket to launch – at which point we all run outside and go “oooh!” as it lights up the night sky.
Yesterday, Filomena wore L’Heure Bleue as her no-brainer scent. It reminded me of Kafka’s fantastic post on vintage L’Heure Bleue which made me realize I never paid any attention to a number of vintage LHBs I had acquired over the past few years. I finally opened the one from 1937 and the perfume is wonderful. I don’t recall what the modern version smells like but I like the one from the 1930s :-).
I left a comment in Kafka’s post:
http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2016/11/15/guerlain-vintage-lheure-bleue-parfum-edp-1960s-2003/#comment-35629
At least a modern version of LHB is one of those perfumes that I wanted to love, tried multiple times – and still can’t believe others enjoy wearing it 😉 You just have to test a modern version now and let me know how it compares to your unexpectedly discovered treasure.
Yes, please share!
I certainly will.
I’ll have to find a friendly SA who will let me try the Extrait! For what it’s worth, every time I type Extrait, spell check capitalizes it. What is up with THAT???
Holy cow- you opened it??? and wore it on your skin???
I look forward to hearing what you have to say when you wear it again…..I drained two full bottles of LHB in the EDT version in the 1990s but then stopped wearing it because of negative associations…but I can live vicariously through you in your enjoyment of it 🙂 !!!!
So yes, today. I spritzed over me, no dainty dabs. The almond, tonka, and whiffs of vanilla came out to play. I was probably the best smelling person at church this morning although no one sat behind me (no one was there when I sat down and I did not sense movement of anyone discreetly distancing themselves from me).
Nice!
I love l’Heure Bleue, I have a recent extrait and it is one of my cherished treasures. I have a sample of the vintage extrait and that is wonderful too. Enjoy your bottle.
I intend to use the vintage because there is no sense hoarding. I am very curious about the modern Extrait and will find a way to acquire a sample.
Late to the game again. I didn’t participate yesterday because I was in the kind of foul mood that meant I couldn’t compose a post that didn’t turn into a rant. I wore a sh** ton of Aromatics Elixir. Not a no-brainer, more like an assault on anyone who got too close.
Today I was in the opposite mood. My Stash Elixir arrived and I tried some. It’s lovely, especially in my hair. I decided that I needed a dose of Taklamakan for some sillage, as the Stash is pretty soft in oil form. Was politely huffed by the nice man at the liquor store, who pronounced me “great smelling and nostalgic” but he couldn’t put his finger on what I reminded him of. He thinks it’s a winner though, and that I should buy a full bottle. Enablers are everywhere.
Nice! I love “politely huffed”. 🙂
Lol at “Enablers are everywhere”
Amen!
Great suggestions all! I have a ton of questions I’ve been saving for a post.
I tried Santal Majuscule for the first time, and it’s so wonderful! I really enjoy the cocoa aura over the wood.
I wore Ambre Des Merveilles today. It was perfect as we finally have colder temps. Love that yummy dry down.
Does anyone have a recommendation for others to try, based on the Santal Majuscule and Ambre Des Merveilles?
Anyone have any experience with Dawn Spenser Horowitz or SSS sandalwood?
And off topic- I think I’ve missed something-why aren’t there any Chanel products offered on the decant sites? I wanted to try the Beige Perfume and can only find samples on eBay.
Thanks!
FM Dries van Noten is a lovely, sweet sandalwood! There’s also Hermès Santal Massoïa, which I don’t like very much, but many others do. (Don’t know any DSH or SSS ones, sorry!)
The decant sites had big sales on Chanel decants earlier this year, presumably at Chanel sending them cease-and-desist-style paperwork. eBay and fellow perfumistas are basically your only recourse now 🙁
Oh read the notes on DVN and that sounds lovely! Thanks for explaining about the Chanel situations. ????
Regarding SSS, I drained a bottle of Bois de Champagne before it was reformulated and two bottles of Cocoa Sandalwood so I guess it is safe to say that I liked them both…however, I cannot compare them to the SM or AdM…..if you are really on a sandalwood kick might I suggest that you try the real deal? Eden Botanicals has a sandalwood sampler pack which I have purchased in the past and I highly recommend it.
Chocolatemarzipan8-Thanks for the reccomendation! I tried a small sample of the SSS cocoa sandal a while ago- it just was hard to decide how I liked it from one wearing. In my memory-It seemed a little cedar- ish… on me- so this time I’ll get more and try both to compare. The Bois Champange sounds very nice.
Thanks for the Eden Botanicals suggestion.
Have you tried “Santal de Mysore” also by Serge Lutens? Or for more chocolate-over-woods, “Musc Maorï” from Parfumerie Générale”. :^)
Ooo- thanks for the suggestions! This is turning into a big sample order- fun!
woke up this morning to SNOW….ughh is all that I have to say….driving in it is a nightmare and clearing it from the driveway is exhausting…..and the fun begins….I was hoping for a mild winter 🙁
Oh and a question-
Has any one tried any of the offerings from Sfumato? I clicked on the link on the right of the NST site and the fragrances look interesting, they are all natural, the price is excellent and the couple that created this very small artisanal line look adorable…..still on a no buy but just wondered if they are any good????? The sampler pack is also very tempting 🙂
SOTD-
Eden Botanicals Frankincense-Somalia….surprisingly light and fruity….reminds me a bit of Cardinal…..
Ok I take that back…it reminds me ALOT of Heeley’s Cardinal….for a fraction of the cost…I think it would be fun and informative to have a Friday challenge of “smells like…..” with less expensive substitutes…unless that has already been done, Robin?
Oh that sounds fun! I am relatively new to NST so i don’t know if it’s has been done though.
Added to list!
Yay! (of course you already know I asked for selfish reasons 🙂 !!!)
Snow! I love the idea of snow but I know you must be hating the reality of it.
yes as pretty as it looks the reality is dreadful….extremely hazardous driving conditions and constant shoveling which does a number on my back 🙁
SOTD: MFK APOM Pour Femme. I wasn’t a fan when I first tried it in early summer, but it’s uber nice in cold weather. Loving the orange blossom, honey and ylang ylang. It reminds me of Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, but less sweet.
Happy Sunday to all!
Just back from spin class and post shower, I’m sporting Amber Flush body oil layered under Arquiste #57 for JCrew from my rollerball. I generally don’t care for rollerball application, but this fragrance wears very big on me and projects well with just a swipe or two.
Off to go test drive some cargo vans. I have been looking at class B RV’s and finally accepted the fact I cannot afford one, nor can I afford a conversion a la Sportsmobile. I guess I’ll have to do it myself, with a little help and encouragement for T-Rex.
Cheers! ✌????️
One of my favorite shows is Tiny House Nation 🙂
Hey there,
I’m looking for a rose scented body lotion that is moisturizing and preferably free of too many chemicals (ie parabens). Can be high or low end. Just looking for something that won’t irritate my skin. Any suggestions?
SOTD: JM Red Roses
Maybe Korres body butter in Japanese Rose? I have only used the shower gel but found it very pleasant and natural. The rose is fresh and a little lemony.
I agree, Korres has great body butters
Korres’ body butters are a winter staple for me!
I love Korres products. I’ve been using Wild Rose facial moisturizer and exfoliator for years and always get complimented on my skin. I will check out the Japanese rose body butter.
Diptyque body butter? I got it as a present, but had to give it away as it was too rose-scented
I really like the Diptique Rose fragrance but it sounds like the body butter might be a little too much rose for me too.
If I were you, I would “make” my own rose scented body lotion with Rose Delight body oil (do a patch test first). For the lotion part, the unscented ones I’ve had no problems with include (from lightest to heaviest and happens to be from $ to $$$): Cetaphil, Clinique Body Butter, Diana Vreeland Body Cream. You’re worth it 🙂
That’s a great idea.
L’Occitane makes a rose line that I can’t remember the name of but it starts with “A”. I like it and I hate rose scents so I don’t know if that is good or bad for it’s reputation.
hm that sounds great. There are many roses that I do not like and just a couple that I like, so I’m with you there.
Maybe Arlesienne? I haven’t tried it, but I’ve been meaning to for a while. I have heard it described as a very nice rose-violet scented line.
That’s the one! Thanks. I have the shower gel and body oil, which is very nice.
I have and love Shea Moisture Peace Rose Oil Complex sensitive skin lotion. It’s VERY fragrant and VERY moisturizing, so sometimes I have to mix it with a lighter, unscented lotion (even though I get lizard skin in the winter). I’ve never experienced irritation from it, though! And no parabens, etc., as it’s a pretty chemical-free line. Got mine at Target!
That sounds like it’s worth scoping out. I love the name of it!
I use Alba Botanicals unscented lotion and just add my own essential oils to it…you can find really good rose oils from Eden Botanicals, White Lotus, Enfleurage or even pick up a rose essential oil from a health food store…
I like AB lotion in general. We have a jumbo bottle of AB very emollient lotion that we are on our second Winter using (the thing is enormous). It has a very strong Tiare scent, but I think I would much prefer to do what you have suggested and go with the scent free and add rose oil to my liking. Thanks for the suggestion!
You might try one of The Body Shops rose lotions . I have Atlas Mountain Rose and looked through the ingredients list – it looked paraben free. TBS products often show up at Tjmaxx ,Marshall’s etc. for very little.
Today is Sunday, crazy DC weather here!! SotD = Ateliers d’Ors Cuir Sacre!
This smoky leather is perfect for our autumnal winds & safer than a firepit!;)
It could be a FB purchase- thise gild flecks are very enchanting and rhe bottle is very pretty like VdN!
Brw- has anyone sniffed the new Sycamore from Les Esclusivs? What have you heard?
I still love it, but it’s maybe a little weeny bit sweeter than before. Won’t stop me from buying it eventually.
Thanks Waterdragon!!! I bought an original bottle just in case…. I havent seen them out on the counters yet!!! Was hoping they would b more scemted, and not changed!9ª9″
Hiss! Boo! Sucks! Monday, and I have to go to a meeting with a Very Senior Bloke who will probably expect me to approach him crawling and kiss his expensively-shod feet. I spent a little bit of time in the night working out an outfit that is the sartorial equivalent of a middle finger lifted skyward (that should be the emblem on my family’s crest, if we ever got one: rampant digit on an azure ground). And the all-important finishing touch? 31 Rue Cambon, because wouldn’t you, if you were in my red boots?
It would rather depend on who wanted what from whom, to be honest. If you really want to spray something that says Foxtrot Oscar, what’s wrong with Mace? If you’re bidding for a research grant I’d worry your approach might be more refreshingly bracing than the system can cope with. :^)
Good luck with your meeting! At least you smell good 🙂
Hah! In those circumstances I say wear whatever stiffens your spine and makes you feel confident and grounded. Senior Bloke won’t make a dent in that armour!
I’ve always thought my family would have done justice to a crest emblazoned with a group of hysterically laughing funeral attendees. We just can’t do appropriately grave. Yours sounds great, too.
I’ve noticed that the joys of sassing ultra pretentious men increase the longer I’m alive. I will never be able to pull off faking the proper amount of dignified respect so why bother to try? If he’s that bad, I hope 31RC gives him a headache.
Oh lord! We must be related then! 😉
The older I get, the less I give a flying…er, fox about impressing “important” people, especially those who seem to think they are more important than they are. Wear whatever will make the meeting easier for you. I love your red boots!
waterdragon, in these shoes? 😉
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISzoUdtMSH4
I love that song!
Just watched the clip! Marvellous! I was accused of having An Attitude: I wish I’d said, “Honey, it’s because I’m in these shoes….”
For Sunday travel, I try to choose something with a sporting chance of surviving the whole Taxi – Airport security – Flight – Baggage hall – Taxi endurance test. SOTD is Amouage “Sunshine Man”. This is successfully spicing up another day of paperwork. My company year ends on September 30th and given I am not exactly Captain Chaos I have no idea how sorting this out takes so long. :^s
Sorting things out takes so long because you do it right the first time.
A sample of batime de feu today, and it definitely has a masculine, old fashioned aspect under the incense.
I have a sample…will try it soon. Do you like it?
I like the ginger/incense part but would prefer the old-school men’s spiced cologne part on a person near me. It’s not my new favourite but I don’t mind smelling like it for a day.
SundaySoTd Eau de Merveilles.I now understand why its universally loved. On another subject:I’m falling crazy in love with Louis Vuitton bags, specifically the patent leather ones in Amarante(it is a blackcherry-red color)How silly would this man look with a patent-leather LV bag slung over my shoulder!?Who cares.Lol.My savings account is now know as the “Amarante-Affair”.x
*known.Excitement makes me skip the alphabet.
Nobody looks silly carrying truly fine leather.
Drenched in Maai today for the spicy warmth and an afternoon of doing laundry. The kitty is asleep beside me in the chair and it’s pretty quiet and peaceful here.
Nice!
I’m wearing Schiaparelli Shocking to combat the sudden cold wave. My favorite masculine is AG Vetiver. Mine is from circa 2009; no idea how the current version in the boring bottle is.
Today I’m wearing a mixture of Tom Ford’s Noir, both Feminine and Masculine versions.
I’m wearing some vintage Givenchy Xeryus. I’ve been enjoying it a lot lately. Has anyone tried the new Chanel Pour Monsieur Parfum for the USA? I’ve heard it’s closer to the Eau de Toilette version the Concentree. If so, I know what I might get myself for Christmas.
