Wednesday scent of the day 11/16

Posted by Robin on 16 November 2016 188 Comments

rose amber flush

Hump Day! Plus, it's the International Day for Tolerance. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Tauerville Rose Flash over Tauer Perfumes Amber Flush body oil.

Reminder: 11/18 will be No Brainer Friday — wear one of your seasonal "no brainer / go to" fragrances. Thanks to SheriG for the suggestion!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Penhaligon Levantium. Oudy, smoky fragrance with lots of spices. Powdery, aromatic and creamy with a very nice ambery drydown. Warm and lovely.

I sprayed the new No5 flanker that just came out..not sure where it went. Its gone. So I will just go with some no brainer Shalimar body powder

I got a call from an SA from BG that they are doing their gift card event at the end of this month just in case anyone wants to stock up on perfume or beauty.

Tell me more about the Amber body oil Robin..

I am not a massive amber fan, so you might better ask someone else! It is very nicely done but unlike the rose, doubt I would ever wear it alone. To me, it calls out for spicy vanilla fragrances. Really nice under the Rose Flash!

My $0.02 :) I think the oil is done really well (a huge amber fan here). I see myself wearing it alone, layering with other ambers, or trying what Robin has done

SOTD: Aromessence Néroli hydrating oil serum from Decléor.
I know, not a perfume but wow, is this a strongly scented serum for the face! Starts off as a spicy neroli then the warm sandalwood slowly comes through. Not bad. Maybe great as a neck serum instead or layering base for perfume. ;)

Body Shop has a range of shower gels and lotions called Vanilla Chai that is a similar…but simpler….version of The Dame. I thought they could be good for layering? I have almost finished my BFMV .

Lots of Miller Harris L’Air de Rien .
This really is a no brainer for me – smells like warm skin on someone just before they crawl out of a warm bed on a cool day.
I have only sniffed 2 from this line, and ended up buying FB of both !!!

        Fleurs de Sel.
To me, there is something deeply sensual about both of these scents.
I think I may be afraid to try the rest – not looking for any more lemmings. :)

Does anyone else find certain houses that simply resonate with them? Miller Harris and vero perfumo are my 2.

L’air d’Rien is nice layered with her Tobacco/rose, it’s called Rose Noir I think, I find it a bit cloying on its own, but they are really gorgeous together.

I’ve never actually gotten the pencil shavings from this. At least, I’ve never noticed it before. It’s just a nice light floral with vanilla for me and considering I’m not a huge fan of vanilla fragrances that’s saying something. I guess there’s enough of the other notes not to make it too cloying and annoying for me.

It took me a while to find the “right” no-brainer vanilla, but I think it’s a really excellent year-round scent that’s both comforting and versatile without being boring. Color me happy today.

I think I’m going to quietly disappear from Facebook for another week or two. It’s stressing me out – not so much the news as people’s reactions to the news, and since I have a mix of friends on both sides of the election, my FB feed is increasingly raucous.

It wasn’t a conscious decision, and it’s partly driven by the fact that my college-age kids are coming home next week, but I’ve been working on my house. Organizing the kitchen, painting a bedroom, etc. I’m getting more stuff done, instead of losing hours online and feeling more stressed. Accidental productivity!

Except for perfume blogs and discussions, of course, I’m not giving that up ;-)

Mugler Ultra Zest. It’s a tough call but I think this might be my favourite of the line’s many flankers: some of them can feel overbearing but here the big bright citrus really gives it a lift.

I bought it on a whim in London last year and to be honest I didn’t really attach to it until I wore Pure Malt, Pure Coffee, and the original A*Men in the space of about a week. That was when I realized that they’re all kind of heavy and looming: Ultra Zest kept the basic structure but reproportioned it and lightened it up a lot.

        Chacun à son goût!

Interesting. I get little to no leather from it (except in that Hermes luxury handbag/gloves way) and don’t smell any relationship to Cuir de Russie (though I love both.) The first time I smelled Cuir d’Ange it actually reminded me of Vanderbilt, which was very popular amongst girls at my school in the 80s. I ended up buying a bottle of the latter and they do have some notes in common, though the Hermes is much more elegant ;)

The roses up there inspired me to spray Rosine’s Rose d’ete. It’s apple-fruity, and it matches the sunny weather and remaining fall color.

Meanwhile, I’m obsessing about orange or orange/spice fragrances. I might apply some DSH The Color Orange later. I haven’t worked out exactly what I’m looking for in an orange-y perfume; it might take more than one to do the job!

    Have a great day everyone!

Christian Siriano Silhouette, which I got as bonus sample from Indigo in Cleveland. This is very pretty and light. I think it might be a good summer scent, it is a little too light for the chilly weather today, but it might bloom in some heat. Tomorrow I am going to wear Moon Bloom. :-)

Been on a sampling kick this week; tried all the Zoologists (liked Bat and Rhinoceros best), plus MFK Grand Soir and Petit Matin borrowed from the sampler set enabler husband bought himself. (Flat out stole the Baccarat Rouge 540) Tried Norell Elixer (meh)
After all the testing, I needed a good go-to scent, so I am in NV Mohur EDT. Gorgeous!

I’m not up to date, but one of my favorite posts ever was your selection of these gorgeous Versace gowns:

SotMorning = nada, nothing, zip, zero as I head off to the medical center for an annual physical and tests. No powder, lotion, or deodorant either so perhaps you can imagine what fun I’m in for today.

On the way home I’ll stop by Ulta. In honor of International Day for Tolerance I will over-use their perfume testers to see how much fragrance I can tolerate. I hope the store near me still has Chanel. I heard from a friend that some Ulta stores have revamped their fragrance selections and Chanel has disappeared.

Wearing a sample of Tornade Blonde I received which is one of the new Louboutin fragrances.

Meh, I say. Reminded me instantly of Escape by Calvin Klein. (Does CK still make perfumes? ;) ) My sister wore Escape I think a lifetime ago. This is bordering on a scrubber for me.

I sniffed the other two Louboutins and was underwhelmed as well. The price point is ridiculous. So much nicer to complain about high-end perfumery than other, far more important, stuff going on in the world today. Get off my lawn, Mr. Louboutin…but leave me those shoes please…

SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon

I’m continuing Iris Week with this elegant beauty. At some level, it is a no brainer in that it works all year round and works with any outfit – contrarian for the grungiest outfit and elevates a nice one. OTOH, I don’t ever spontaneously / casually reach for it.

Pet Peeve 1 – People carrying long-stemmed umbrellas and swinging their arms in a crowded sidewalk as if they’re practicing for their baton twirling debut at the Superbowl. Seriously, it’s enough to make me want to stab their eyeballs with a fork!

Pet Peeve 2 – Lately, I haven’t complained much about atrocious smells on my daily commute. The drought ended today: I sat in front of a champion

So, dilettante. Not exactly a no-brainer, but a delight. Today it’s a little dirtier than it was when I last tried it. I never thought myself an orange blossom person but I have almost drained a sample of the spicy Tuberuse 40, and am working on this little decant, too…

After enjoying an unseasonably warm October and early November, temps have dropped a good 10 degrees (and more at night) and it feels like winter. Just turned up the radiators, as it were, but it’ll be a while before the heat kicks in. Nicolai Ambre Cashmere Intense is suggesting a coziness that I’m not really experiencing in any other sense besides olfactorily what with my icy cold feet.

SOTD Seville l”Aube. This morning was my sister-in-law’s funeral mass at a High Anglican church that definitely believes in smells & bells, so the incense complemented it well and added to my experience of the sacramental aura. She loved Jo Malone Orange Blossom candles, so the orange helped me channel her too.

My condolences to you. Sounds like you picked the perfect fragrance for the occasion, I bet she would be pleased.

I’m sorry for your loss and glad you were somewhat able to connect with her scent at the service. I’m sure she would appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I got some of that onto my sweatshirt last week, and it’s still sticking around (I haven’t washed my sweatshirt yet). It’s amazing.

I’ve been fighting a chest cold all week. Today was wear whatever sample is in my purse, reached in and grabbed Dior Addict. Which as much as I love it, I’ve never been able to commit to a full bottle. I have no idea why.
