Hump Day! Plus, it's the International Day for Tolerance. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Tauerville Rose Flash over Tauer Perfumes Amber Flush body oil.
Reminder: 11/18 will be No Brainer Friday — wear one of your seasonal "no brainer / go to" fragrances. Thanks to SheriG for the suggestion!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Penhaligon Levantium. Oudy, smoky fragrance with lots of spices. Powdery, aromatic and creamy with a very nice ambery drydown. Warm and lovely.
That sounds like it would go perfect with the Tauer body oil!
That sounds gorgeous!
For my third no brainer of the week I’ve gone all posh barber shop – Prada’s Amber Pour Homme.
Yum — love that one.
I sprayed the new No5 flanker that just came out..not sure where it went. Its gone. So I will just go with some no brainer Shalimar body powder
I got a call from an SA from BG that they are doing their gift card event at the end of this month just in case anyone wants to stock up on perfume or beauty.
Tell me more about the Amber body oil Robin..
I am not a massive amber fan, so you might better ask someone else! It is very nicely done but unlike the rose, doubt I would ever wear it alone. To me, it calls out for spicy vanilla fragrances. Really nice under the Rose Flash!
My $0.02 I think the oil is done really well (a huge amber fan here). I see myself wearing it alone, layering with other ambers, or trying what Robin has done
Ditto. It is great.
SOTD: Aromessence Néroli hydrating oil serum from Decléor.
I know, not a perfume but wow, is this a strongly scented serum for the face! Starts off as a spicy neroli then the warm sandalwood slowly comes through. Not bad. Maybe great as a neck serum instead or layering base for perfume.
Aha, sounds like something I might need. Afraid to look at price.
Me too and me too…
It’s actually not that bad. ( of course, that is all dependent one’s income and budget for such things!)
These Decleor oils are beautiful. And while not cheap, they are fairly priced unlike much else out there.
Third day of no brainer…..I am enveloped in warm, sweet utter comfort of Dame Perfumery’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla…gosh I could bathe in this stuff and given its affordable price I may just go crazy and spray myself some more !!!!! this perfume is amazing!!!!!!
Body Shop has a range of shower gels and lotions called Vanilla Chai that is a similar…but simpler….version of The Dame. I thought they could be good for layering? I have almost finished my BFMV .
ack don’t tempt me :)…I am still on a no buy-LOL!
That one sounds gorgeous, i so wish they were available in the UK, boo hoo.
You can get a perfume oil roll on which Jeffrey Dame ships internationally….not to tempt you
Lots of Miller Harris L’Air de Rien .
This really is a no brainer for me – smells like warm skin on someone just before they crawl out of a warm bed on a cool day.
I have only sniffed 2 from this line, and ended up buying FB of both !!!
What is the other one?
Fleurs de Sel.
To me, there is something deeply sensual about both of these scents.
I think I may be afraid to try the rest – not looking for any more lemmings.
Does anyone else find certain houses that simply resonate with them? Miller Harris and vero perfumo are my 2.
Dame Perfumery, 1000 Flowers and SSS.
Oh and my new loves are the Berdoues Grand Cru….I want them all…not JUST for the juice but especially for the bottles !
I love Fleurs de Sel, Geranium Bourbon (or is it Bourbon Geranium?), and La Pluie. But they are highly weather-specific.
Atelier Cologne except for the ones in the opaque white bottles.
No brainier for me too, I might wear it tomorrow, u smell wonderful!
I love fleur de sel too, I have just a mini of that one.
L’air d’Rien is nice layered with her Tobacco/rose, it’s called Rose Noir I think, I find it a bit cloying on its own, but they are really gorgeous together.
You reminded me of the jasmine bomb I was doing for awhile last summer, layering L’air de rien with pure jasmine oil.
I got a decant of la fumee classic in the last swapmeet, and it is excellent. I also have some petit rien which is A++
More to try
SOTD: Bulgar The Bleu. I am really smelling the cardamom today.
I am drinking a mug of Singlijan Assam.
I’m in D&G The One. Using up a mini of this I got from a friend. I wasn’t overly fond of this when I first tried it, but it’s grown on me a bit.
I actually like this and have gone through a couple bottles of it, but adorable hubby gets pencil shavings, and I have other woody vanilla scents I can wear that make him say yum! So The One is on the shelf for me…
I’ve never actually gotten the pencil shavings from this. At least, I’ve never noticed it before. It’s just a nice light floral with vanilla for me and considering I’m not a huge fan of vanilla fragrances that’s saying something. I guess there’s enough of the other notes not to make it too cloying and annoying for me.
SOTD is Safran Troublant, a no-brainer for me. Happy Hump Day!
Ooh, I really like this one–you smell fantastic.
I am wearing one of my favorite no brainer SL Clair de Musc. It has a calming effect on me.
Yes Clair de Musc is very calming.
CdM is so easy. You smell beautiful.
This has been the easiest week so far – wearing Diorella edp today. I like this not having to think too much about selecting a perfume, jsut grab whatever.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
I like that one. Do you ever wear it with Lime Basil & Mandarin? I like them individually and together.
You smell nice.
thanks for that recommendation…I have both at home and will try that combo
Thank you madtowngirl. I’ve never tried that combination, I’ll bet it smells good though.
The Jo Malone SA at the Saks near me told me “when in doubt, use Wood Sage & Sea Salt”. He said it goes with practically every Jo Malone scent out there.
I really need to try this one again. There’s so much love for it on here.
The very definition of a no brainer.
yes, a good “grab and just go with it” kind of scent
The Macys SA recommended this and I said I already have a full bottle. This is a no brainer!
My bottle of Jacques Zolty Van-Ile showed up all the way from Germany last night, so I’m positively drenched in it. It took me a while to find the “right” no-brainer vanilla, but I think it’s a really excellent year-round scent that’s both comforting and versatile without being boring. Color me happy today.
You smell great
Ditto and I have clarissa to thank!
Dark Horse is a perfect seasonal no-brainer. Love it.
Oh we are scent cousins
Love Dark Horse…..definitely a no brainer
Dark Horse is great. I find it a bit easier to wear than either New Musk or BFMV.
Hee! hee! I love all three…the musk is great for layering too….
I couldn’t find my travel spray of Dark Horse and spotted it the other day in my husband’s drawer. Guess he likes it too.
One spritz of Songes as compared to 7 yesterday. I so needed to soak in a hot tub yesterday that my guy has bought a package of 10. Yay! Oodles of warm soaks to get through the winter
Oh yeah. My new guy likes Inman Oasis as much as I do. I’m so thrilled and shocked that he got a ten soak package.Cute, smart, generous, thinks I’m amazing, and likes spas and such. Did I mention I hope to keep him around for a while?
Wearing Hermes Neroli Dore and eating Nirvana dark cherries chocolate. Both are so nice and bring good mood (now, I only have to keep it that way and stay away from googling “news” … )
I think I’m going to quietly disappear from Facebook for another week or two. It’s stressing me out – not so much the news as people’s reactions to the news, and since I have a mix of friends on both sides of the election, my FB feed is increasingly raucous.
It wasn’t a conscious decision, and it’s partly driven by the fact that my college-age kids are coming home next week, but I’ve been working on my house. Organizing the kitchen, painting a bedroom, etc. I’m getting more stuff done, instead of losing hours online and feeling more stressed. Accidental productivity!
Except for perfume blogs and discussions, of course, I’m not giving that up
I have tried to delete FB from my phone! Too much drama on both sides of the fence, for sure.
mals, we appear to be in the same position. I also have a mix of friends which is why I have stayed off FB since the election. I’m so grateful for the websites like NST that are filled with beautiful things, intelligent articles, and kind comments. They’re to be cherished.
Me too. I’m waiting a few weeks before returning. People are acting crazy there. Very unsettling
Well, if one really want to save money on Xmas gifts, one should start a political discussion on FB.
Me too… I am hanging out on perfume forums instead, much less stressful.
Pass the cherries & chocolate!
And sorry I mentioned the rest …:(
Staying off FB is a very good idea. More time for enjoying those cherry bonbons and perfumes!
Mugler Ultra Zest. It’s a tough call but I think this might be my favourite of the line’s many flankers: some of them can feel overbearing but here the big bright citrus really gives it a lift.
We are opposites on that one — it was about the only one I didn’t care about!
I bought it on a whim in London last year and to be honest I didn’t really attach to it until I wore Pure Malt, Pure Coffee, and the original A*Men in the space of about a week. That was when I realized that they’re all kind of heavy and looming: Ultra Zest kept the basic structure but reproportioned it and lightened it up a lot.
Chacun à son goût!
Trying Narciso Poudree, which is lovely and probably 2nd favorite behind the EDP.
I can see adding this to my white little bottle on my dresser.
Not a huge powder lover but these two work for me.
It’s hard to resist duos or trios of those gorgeous bottles
Trying Cuir D’Ange for the first time. It’s a smoky, intense leather and I like it so far. Some definite parallels with Cuir de Russie, which is my leather gold standard. I’m curious to see how develops over the next few hours.
You smell great, and writing down Cuir de Russie on my to try list!
Interesting. I get little to no leather from it (except in that Hermes luxury handbag/gloves way) and don’t smell any relationship to Cuir de Russie (though I love both.) The first time I smelled Cuir d’Ange it actually reminded me of Vanderbilt, which was very popular amongst girls at my school in the 80s. I ended up buying a bottle of the latter and they do have some notes in common, though the Hermes is much more elegant
I chose Hermes 24 Faubourg today. It always works for me – effortlessly beautiful and chic, no matter the weather. I’m off to tolerate something … gee, what might I find that needs tolerating …
You smell great. That is a good all-weather scent.
It is, and it’s still with me, 12+ hours after spritzing.
I was thinking of you this morning while I was choosing my SOTD and wondering if you would would wear 24 Fb this week. It’s nice to be able to count on people. You smell beautiful today! ????
It’s funny how much of a real support group we all are for each other, having never even met in most cases. I’m really happy to hear that my consistency (if not predictability) is a good thing – it’s certainly a consistent thing. Yes, I’m consistently consistent!
Wearing L’Artisan’s Vanilia, which is my favourite vanilla. Tea is Ceylon FOP Special Ratnapura: it’s very nice.
Vanilia! That’s on my list of wanting to try. You were lucky enough to get it before it was discontinued! Wonder why it was…?
I really don’t know. Mind you Vanille absolument is very nice as well, but I like Vanilia just a tad more. Plus it’s got a great review in the Guide.
The roses up there inspired me to spray Rosine’s Rose d’ete. It’s apple-fruity, and it matches the sunny weather and remaining fall color.
Meanwhile, I’m obsessing about orange or orange/spice fragrances. I might apply some DSH The Color Orange later. I haven’t worked out exactly what I’m looking for in an orange-y perfume; it might take more than one to do the job!
Have a great day everyone!
LOVE Rose d’Ete. I find it quietly comforting. (But it’s too cold here for it to be at its best.)
Christian Siriano Silhouette, which I got as bonus sample from Indigo in Cleveland. This is very pretty and light. I think it might be a good summer scent, it is a little too light for the chilly weather today, but it might bloom in some heat. Tomorrow I am going to wear Moon Bloom.
I kind of like this, I keep getting it as bonus samples from one or another of fragrance discounters…kind of surprised it does not seem to be any popular or even known..
SOTD: SL Bois de Violette which always seems just right with a mostly black outfit and shiny black leather boots.
Maybe the International Day of Tolerance can get an extension this year…
You smell beautiful.
You smell beautiful and your outfit sounds lovely.
You smell great! BdV is on my lust list.
Love the boots
Been on a sampling kick this week; tried all the Zoologists (liked Bat and Rhinoceros best), plus MFK Grand Soir and Petit Matin borrowed from the sampler set enabler husband bought himself. (Flat out stole the Baccarat Rouge 540) Tried Norell Elixer (meh)
After all the testing, I needed a good go-to scent, so I am in NV Mohur EDT. Gorgeous!
Oh, I’m so glad someone else likes Bat too.
Tough day at work, but instead of my usual Chanel, I’m wearing TF Fleur de Chine. It’s probably the most glamorous scent that I also find a complete no brainer. Beautiful, easy to wear an sophisticated enough for a huge press conference today.
I agree…too bad it is discontinued.
Yeah. Although still available in some places. I actually stocked up, first time ever.
Hi, Annikky! Making a note to stop by your blog today for a virtual mini-vacation. I haven’t figured out how to post on blogs that need some kind of account, so I’ve never commented there, but I really enjoy it. I’m not up to date, but one of my favorite posts ever was your selection of these gorgeous Versace gowns:
Thank you! I’m behind as well – should have blogged already yesterday, but I’m destroyed by work. And I agree, these are some amazing dresses. (Btw, you shouldn’t need anything but an e-mail address to comment.)
Thanks, I’ll give it a try!
In Marni, also is a no-brainer. This spiced rose makes me happy.
I’m saving that one for Friday. It is a happy scent, isn’t it?
Today I’m wearing MFK’s Petit Matin. I’m going out this evening and will be wearing Grand Soir.
You smell great, I love Petit Matin for a no brainer and Grand Soir also sounds great for evening wear.
I can’t wait to try Grand Soir, it sounds perfect for chilly weather.
Someone mentioned Beloved recently so that is my scent today.
You smell wonderful!
Beloved gets mentioned here a lot, and rightly so: it is very beautiful.
You smell gorgeous, and I’ll bet it’s lifting your mood, too.
It certainly has!
You smell fantastic!
In Belle Du Soir, which has gone from no brainer to treasure every drop, layered over Stash oil.
It’s cold, damp and grey here and I am in Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. It’s just a Shalimar day and I have tons of it.
SotMorning = nada, nothing, zip, zero as I head off to the medical center for an annual physical and tests. No powder, lotion, or deodorant either so perhaps you can imagine what fun I’m in for today.
On the way home I’ll stop by Ulta. In honor of International Day for Tolerance I will over-use their perfume testers to see how much fragrance I can tolerate. I hope the store near me still has Chanel. I heard from a friend that some Ulta stores have revamped their fragrance selections and Chanel has disappeared.
LOL — the UN will appreciate your efforts I’m sure!
Reminds me, I’m about due for another one of those uncomfortable encounters. Hope yours isn’t too bad today, and that you can make up for it later with all the testers.
Wearing a sample of Tornade Blonde I received which is one of the new Louboutin fragrances.
Meh, I say. Reminded me instantly of Escape by Calvin Klein. (Does CK still make perfumes? ) My sister wore Escape I think a lifetime ago. This is bordering on a scrubber for me.
I sniffed the other two Louboutins and was underwhelmed as well. The price point is ridiculous. So much nicer to complain about high-end perfumery than other, far more important, stuff going on in the world today. Get off my lawn, Mr. Louboutin…but leave me those shoes please…
Hee hee???? Thanks for the laugh. And Mr. L is laughing all the way to the bank so I’m sure there’re no hard feelings.
I kind of liked Trouble in Heaven, but not the others (I keep thinking of Bikini Questra Sera as “Bikini Quesadilla”).
More money saved for something truly worthwhile!
We had our first (very light) frost of the year last night! I’m currently swaddled in my mom’s old cashmere scarf and a few sprays of Dzing!, my favorite comfort-on-a-cold-morning no-brainer scent.
Mmmm – nice! We’re going to have our first cold day tomorrow and I think I will wear Dzing! as well. I’ve also noticed before that Dzing! leaves a lovely fragrance trail on scarves.
Yes, I’ve recently noticed that, and so perfect for a chilly morning!
Nice. I had a really hard time picking a frag this morning and Dzing! would have been perfect. Some day I’ll learn to check here first before choosing
You smell great. Dzing! really is a great comfort scent.
I’m in the über no-brainer no 19 in EdT and EdP. Busy busy weeks.
Perfect choice when you just want to smell perfect.
Do you layer them together?
I surprised myself and put on a spritz of No. 5 EDT today. It’s never been a favorite, but I am enjoying it today. Since I had to think about it, it doesn’t qualify as a no-brainer for me, but really, I almost always think carefully about my fragrance choice.
I’m the same way, I almost always have to think before spraying.
SOTD – Trayee.
Hello, all. i’m wafting about in my new Dries van Noten, very enjoyable. It’s a soft puff of vanilla that isn’t in any way weak or feeble, and the spices add depth. I feel as though I’m being hugged by someone who has spent the morning baking gingerbread and vanilla crisps. There are many worse things than that!
That sounds like a wonderful person to be hugged by.
I’m wearing Aromatics Elixir today. I had a craving for patchouli this morning, so this was it. I’m realizing my collection is a bit short on options in that department.
Yum. I sniffed my bottle the other day and am anticipating a cool day so I can wear it without suffocating anyone.
Lovely fall weather here in Florida today (high of 78!). SOTD is that old classic, Ombre Rose.
Love Ombre Rose. I should pull mine out.
Lovely Philosykos EDT today, since it’s supposed to hi 80 here and then I’m off on a plane to Seattle. I’m so tired. And this trip is unlikely to fix that. But maybe next week I’ll get to recuperate.
I haven’t been reading as closely as I’d like, so this may have been highlighted already:
It’s basically just advertising, but it’s pretty.
Planning to wear Amouage Beloved again today.
Wow! Some beautiful pictures – would love to visit!
Hey Twin, you smell great!
When in doubt, wear Beloved!
You smell lovely. I’m imagining smelling it ‘in stereo’ from you and Petunia. ????
It’s cold enough here (snow in the mountains!) to pull out Panthere de Cartier. I feel like I should be enveloped in fur and dripping in diamonds (I think it’s the civet note) but instead I’m in fleece and denim.
Robin, I will have to try Rose Flash and Amber Flush together. I am not good at layering but that combo sounds good.
I’m in E&J Nirvana Rose, which loses its rosiness and goes very woody almost immediately on me. I had high hopes for it as an affordable spicy rose, but it just doesn’t work on my skin. Poop.
It smells different on me each time I wear it, so maybe there’s hope?
That’s interesting. It’ll take several more wearings to finish up my sample, so I’ll see what happens. But since my skin really tends to boost middle and base notes, I won’t be surprised if nothing changes.
Le Temps d’Une Fete – a reliable spring favourite!
I just managed to find a bottle of that – you smell beautiful!
Sadly it’s not spring here. I’m in Sycomore, which is most-worn in my Basenotes wardrobe so must count as a no-brainer.
SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon
I’m continuing Iris Week with this elegant beauty. At some level, it is a no brainer in that it works all year round and works with any outfit – contrarian for the grungiest outfit and elevates a nice one. OTOH, I don’t ever spontaneously / casually reach for it.
Pet Peeve 1 – People carrying long-stemmed umbrellas and swinging their arms in a crowded sidewalk as if they’re practicing for their baton twirling debut at the Superbowl. Seriously, it’s enough to make me want to stab their eyeballs with a fork!
Pet Peeve 2 – Lately, I haven’t complained much about atrocious smells on my daily commute. The drought ended today: I sat in front of a champion
f-rter. Maybe I need to double my prayers to the St. of travels?
31 Rue Cambon is perfect for me too in many situations, always gorgeous and sophisticated!
I hope you’re prayers to the Saint of Travels is answered before you’re next commute!
From your lips to St. Christopher’s ears!
Ugh, poor you. You were the best smelling thing on that commute. Maybe you should bring a hanky spritzed with your sotd or a gas mask?
Thank you. I really need to get a bottle of White Flower oil. It smells like Ben-gay.
31 Rue Cambon is beautiful but I am replying mostly to thank you for getting me to finally realize what OTOH stands for!
Yay! You learned something new today!
You smell fabulous! I totally agree with your thoughts on 31RC.
Sorry about your stinky ride.
Thank you! The only way to avoid a stinky commute is to drive, in which case, if it was stinky, I only have myself to blame
LOL! Those are both really annoying peeves. At least you smell great.
Thank you! I kept catching whiffs of something wonderful and it was me!
Flying to Wilmington NC to visit grandma for the week. A little nervous as far as how the atmosphere will be like over there. I’m a very colorful San Franciscan. Packed Bois Farine. Love this softly sweet and almondy dough. So quirky and beautiful. Wished it lasted longer but what can one do? Happy Wednesday, peace, love and perfume. ⭐️❤️
Hope you’re trip goes well, you’re perfume choice sounds lovely!
Peace, love, and perfume is a good motto!
Wearing samples of by Killians Incense Oud and Rose Oud.
The first disappointingly quiet, and also a bit similar to Dzonka, which I adore.
Also relieved that I don’t love Rose Oud as much as the 3 Roses on my wish list- phew! Money saved!
The wood burner is keeping us cosy, and burning some lovely Santa Maria Novella Incense too.
Oh, which SMN incense? They have a boutique in the area, and I like many of the colognes, which are all distinctive.
Puredistance Sheiduna is my SotD, I’ve been writing a review for a few hours today but I’m happy with it.
Now only to prepare some pictures for it and I’m ready to publish.
vintage Parfum Sacre EDP for me today
Tropic of Capricorn. Do try to hide your surprise, everyone
This is somewhere beyond no-brainer for me.
Tom Ford Fleur de Portofino. It would be a no brainer at a quarter of its price
Wearing the dearly departed MDCI Enlèvement au Sérail. So excited to hear Andy Tauer will be at Scent Bar this weekend, I plan to drive up to see him. Anybody else from SoCal going?
Always great to see someone else love one of my favourites. I’m in Europe so not going to Scent Bar, hope you have a great time.
A day off after another big grant deadline and a generally awful week in the world (both in the macro and micro senses).
So, dilettante. Not exactly a no-brainer, but a delight. Today it’s a little dirtier than it was when I last tried it. I never thought myself an orange blossom person but I have almost drained a sample of the spicy Tuberuse 40, and am working on this little decant, too…
After enjoying an unseasonably warm October and early November, temps have dropped a good 10 degrees (and more at night) and it feels like winter. Just turned up the radiators, as it were, but it’ll be a while before the heat kicks in. Nicolai Ambre Cashmere Intense is suggesting a coziness that I’m not really experiencing in any other sense besides olfactorily what with my icy cold feet.
SOTD Seville l”Aube. This morning was my sister-in-law’s funeral mass at a High Anglican church that definitely believes in smells & bells, so the incense complemented it well and added to my experience of the sacramental aura. She loved Jo Malone Orange Blossom candles, so the orange helped me channel her too.
It’s nice that you were able to channel her through scent. Again, truly sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss and you’re keeping the memory of her alive by wearing a lerfume that reminds you of one of her favorite notes!
My condolences to you. Sounds like you picked the perfect fragrance for the occasion, I bet she would be pleased.
I’m sorry for your loss and glad you were somewhat able to connect with her scent at the service. I’m sure she would appreciate your thoughtfulness.
I’m propping myself up today with my last smidge of Epic Woman.
I got some of that onto my sweatshirt last week, and it’s still sticking around (I haven’t washed my sweatshirt yet). It’s amazing.
I’ve been fighting a chest cold all week. Today was wear whatever sample is in my purse, reached in and grabbed Dior Addict. Which as much as I love it, I’ve never been able to commit to a full bottle. I have no idea why.
