Happy Almost-Friday, and happy National Coffee Day!* What fragrance are you wearing?
Box of Eels for me today.
Reminder: 9/30 will be Still Ticking Friday — wear the perfume in your collection that has been on the market longest (so the perfume with the earliest launch year, that is still in production — not necessarily your oldest bottle).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Mariacarla Boscono for Chanel Prefall 2016.
* PSA if you live near a Wawa: they are giving out free coffee today. Krispy Kreme is upping the ante with free coffee and a free glazed donut. McDonald's and Starbucks are donating proceeds to charity instead. No worries if you miss it all because International Coffee Day is coming up on Saturday!
Santalum for an impromptu Profumum Roma week.
Wonderful! !
Happy Birthday Mark Farner !
Jam today: We’re an American Band !
These speakers go to 11…….
MORE!
Rock On ! 😉
Bear- this brought a smile immediately while drinking my everyday is national coffee day.
Saw Grand Funk Railroad at their first performance at the Fillmore East 40 + years ago?
SOTD shaal nur
Fantastic! I saw them at the Spectrum in 1974.
Elephant bell pants and skin-tight T-shirts.
Seems like a few weeks ago. LOL 😉
Ahhhhh! Loved Grand Funk Railroad. I think they were my third album purchase (first was The Monkees, second was Carole King…I had eclectic tastes. ; D). I am always happy to find another friend who knows my music from back in the day.
Also loved Spinal Tap – 11!!
Yep ! The Isley Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones. A lot of vinyl !! LOL 😀
No Beatles? 🙂
Beatles
August 30, 1964
Atlantic City
Ticket price 4.95
Memory? Priceless
ZEPPELIN!!! (My enthusiasm goes to 11. ????)
Monkees..check
Carole King Tapestry…check
Didn’t have Grand Funk Railroad, but I did have Sly as well as Ike and Tina.
And never missed Soul Train.
🙂 yes, it was Tapestry. Nice to “meet” you!! I also had a BuffySaint Marie album and Chicago and later, Steely Dan.
Eau d’Hermès. After Galop’s review wanted to revisit the only Hermès leather I own…
And it’s a good one!
It’s very… coincidental that I decided to make myself coffee this morning to take into work (the low-acid kind I love) and had no clue it was National Coffee Day. My coffee is a mix of two flavors: salted caramel and hazelnut cream.
I’m in Liqueur Charnelle by Huitieme Art Parfums. Really loved this sample and now it’s gone. Definitely a great autumn/winter scent for this rainy morning. OOTD: blue plaid flannel half tucked into skinny jeans with Frye ankle boots – lace up Oxford style.
I may have to run out for a coffee later myself. Hope Starbucks is still making cold brew…
Cold brew really is so good. The flavor is so smooth.
You smell great! I love Liqueur Charnelle.
Thanks, it’s such a nice boozy tobacco scent perfect for cool weather.
Hi – What’s the low acid kind you like? I need to get some for my husband and National Coffee Day would be the perfect day for that gift! And BTW, you smell wonderful!
I get mine from The Fresh Market. It’s their own brand.
Thanks. I think Whole Foods carries some. I’ll investigate.
Do they make low-acid coffee? I would not mind it at all. Or is it just some brands have less acid than others?
The Fresh Market makes their own low-acid coffee. I’ve not seen others, but there might be some out there. That store is less than 10 minutes from my house.
Vert Bohème (Tom Ford). Not loving it, will put away the sample until next Spring.
Is that one of the new ‘vert’ trio?
Yes. At the time I liked this one the best on paper, so the friendly SA gave me a sample.
I liked Vert d’Encens better, bought a decant to wear this winter.
I should have gotten the Vert d’Encens… They also had the Ombré Leather 16 available, and I got a sample of that too. It is all leather to me, nothing special or nuanced at least upon my first wearing of it a few days ago. Will try it again when the weather cools off.
I found the Ombre Leather to be pleasant but dull. I still like Tuscan Leather better.
This is the only one I liked of the three. I’ve got to retest it too.
On me this Vert Boheme started off with a lovely blast of galbanum and that sort of symphonic “floral” scent that floral perfumes with no dominant flower have, and then it struggled through an awkward, ozonic stage, and then went completely flat. Vert des Bois, however, stole my heart!
I’ m wearing Cabaret today for more roses. I thought I’d be wearing honey this week, but instead I’m mixing it up with two days of roses. Mmmm honey and roses – anybody know a fragrance with those notes together?
http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/I-Profumi-di-Firenze/Miele-Rosa-12741.html
Ungaro Diva. Wonderful old-school rose chypre with a nice honey note.
Oh, that’s good too.
Yes, I love it. I’m not sure how old my bottle is though (it actually has a real cut glass cap!) and I haven’t tried a current version, if its even still in production.
En Avion extrait today–probably more powdery than I like, but glorious none the less.
I am drinking a cup of Finca Villa Galicia from local roaster Panther Coffee.
I’m so in doubt… There is a vintage miniature of Guerlain box with Chamade, Mitsouko and Shalimar parfum for sale for €48… Should buy it or not?
Right now I am wearing Samsara vintage to help me decide…
That seems fairly pricey for 6ml of parfum to me, but of course you would get those adorable micro-mini bottles too. It might depend on whether you just want it for the juice or you really love the idea of having the collectibles. (For the record, I own one of those vintage Chamade minis, but I think I paid $18 for it. No box, but I didn’t want it for display purposes.)
Oh. Looks like I’m out of touch with the current Euro-to-USD exchange rate, and that’s not as expensive as I had thought.
Is your Chamade parfum? How does it compare to EDT?
I have EdT and some 1980s parfum de toilette and this parfum as well as a sample of parfum from a different source… the parfum is rich and a little heavier on the vanillic (very Guerlain!) basenotes.
For comparison, the pdt is more powdery somehow, with a bit more mimosa than ever shows up in the other two.
Also? Samsara is pretty delicious.
Yesssssss! You have to get that!
I say go for it. Who knows when the next bargain will be. Shalimar and Mitsouko in vintage are fab.
Vintage? Oh I would snap that up so fast.
I’ll add my “yes” to that. Those are 3 beauties.
YES! I would not think it twice! 🙂
I have just bought it!!! You have convinced me. This community is dangerous! Soooo happy.
But dangerous in the nicest way.
Enjoy it!!!
After Chanel, Guerlain and Patou, I’m wearing a Caron classic today. Pour un homme, which is easily my favourite Caron ( I have only tried a few) and one of my favourite lavenders.
Tea was my favourite Assam, Halmari, and have since switched to Le jardin du Trocadéro.
You smell great and very austenfan-like 🙂
Thanks, it’s lovely. I’ve amped it up a bit with some L’Impacte.
I really like Caron pour in homme too, u smell lovely!
Stupid auto correct!- wouldnt let me write un.
I’ll likely be offering a FB at the next freebiemeet – not that it’s expensive or hard to find…
Caron house twins today! I love the lavender in Pour un Homme. Gorgeous.
You’ve had a great smelling week 🙂
With my recent Caron purchase, the saleslady gave me a sample or Pour un Homme. I immediately handed it to my husband. I may get the sample from his stash and try it out.
SOTD Ambre 114. Nice, warm scent making up for being underdressed today. Brrrr. I think I miss Summer already.
I’ve been wanting to try this and have considered a blind buy, as Sephora online offers it in a .5 oz size. I love ambers in the fall and have read good reviews of this one. You would recommend?
It’s one of my favorites. It’s a touch powdery, but light enough that I wore it in the heat on Summer evenings. If you like ambers, I would think it’s a safe blind buy. I find it super cozy.
Good to know- I actually prefer powdery to sweet. LeLabo Labdanum 18 is one of my favorite scents of all time and I’ve read many online reviewers comparing/complaining that it smells of baby powder. To me it just smells lovely. Thanks!
Scentbird has it – 8 mls decant for $14.95.
The weather is more autumn-like today, so I’m wearing Tom Ford London and continuing to like it a lot. And I’ve just had a Starbucks coffee – they’ve opened a branch next to my work place and as there aren’t many options around here (shocking really, considering all those caffeine-starved civil servants and lobbyists), I’m visiting the place more than I’d like. Some staff members are also super nice to me, making it more difficult to stay away…
That TF London sounds very sniff-worthy.
I do think it is, although it’s difficult to find (and of course not cheap). I liked it from the start, but I enjoy it even more now, after several wears.
No.5 Eau Premiere. I have to figure out which of my perfumes is the oldest. Probably Shalimar. Or No.5?
No.5 is older bij 4 years. I just checked. Work isn’t particularly busy today, so 😉
Yes, I checked, too, 1921 and 1925. But then I remembered I also have Mitsouko :).
I hope No. 5 will be well represented on Friday. 😀
Still going backwards in time, wearing 1932’s Tabu. 1932! My version is a lot more recent (about a decade old), but it’s still terrific — powdery and dirty, sweet and spicy in equal measures. If this version is anything like the original, it’s incredibly obvious that 1985-era Obsession owes a huge debt to it (not to mention Youth-Dew, Opium, Cinnabar, and all those other spicy orientals).
That’s a fun scent. It’s amazing that even with the reformulations it’s still so potent.
Love Tabu- you smell yummy????
Today I’m wearing Prada Infusion d’Iris EDP. It works on this miserable dark and rainy day.
You smell great.
You smell amazing. On of my favorites.
Infusion d’Iris is a winner. You smell fabulous.
beautiful!
That one is lovely.
It’s been raining and will rain for the next few days. Tauer Reverie
Au Jardin is helping me to hang on to remnants of the best of summer.
Happy National Coffee Day to all the coffee drinkers.
This has a nice lavender note – great for rainy weather.
Today is my Friday, so I’m in my oldest – Joy EDP. I didn’t like it at first, but it’s growing on me as the day goes on.
You smell lovely.
Right now, I am sitting in the current version of L’Heure Bleue EDP. I find that I enjoy this one better than I do Jicky. Even though Jicky is older, I might wear L’Heure Bleue tomorrow for the challange.
I have been waiting for the “adjusted” EDP to come out.Is that the one you are wearing? Have you compared it to an older formulation?
The bottle of EDP is about a couple years old and I’m thinking that maybe my vintage extrait is from the ’50’s or 60’s. I noticed that extrait has a little more of an animalic growl to it. The musk seems to be a little different as well.
Scent twins! I think the current EDP smells great (I bought my bottle last winter), although admittedly I haven’t tried any vintage L’Huere Bleue.
I tried a decant of L’Huere Bleue a couple of years ago, but I didn’t understand it. I need to revisit it, I think.
You smell great. I love LHB!
I’m going to a Tom Cruise happy hour tonight so I wanted to war something super 80s glam. I don’t own anything that immediately comes to mind though, so I went with Oud Paleo, which has a big, fruity, toothsome charm that could eat you alive. Love.
Can’t wait to get some coffee today to celebrate National Coffee Day.
I clearly recall watching Top Gun at the theater and being completely smitten. Now?…not so much but its interesting to see he is still a top box office draw. I’ve never heard of a TC happy hour…what do you expect???
He has never did it for me personally, even when I wasn’t old enough to understand his religious affiliations. I think they’re focusing on drinks and snacks inspired by his 80s movies. Some people might dress up but who knows?
A Tom Cruise happy hour? Does everyone dress up in bomber jackets, jump on sofas and talk about Scientology? 😉
Have fun!
I would love to jump on the couch and scare Oprah!!
You smell great!
Thank you! I love it but it causes my boss to get a migraine so I will be waiting on that bottle for awhile.
Oh no!
Maybe it is in honor of that great Tom Cruise classic….Cocktail.
SOTD is Vol de Nuit EDT, the current formulation I think, from a new STC sample. It’s very nice – maybe even FB nice. And I’m happily enjoying coffee day with my usual morning latte. Sooooo glad this week is almost over!
Mmm, love Vol de Nuit. Current parfum isn’t bad but I haven’t tried current EdT.
Vol de Nuit EdT is Real Perfume. Lovely.
so pretty–the scent and the bottle!
You smell great.
SOTD: I Love New York for All.
Didn’t know what to wear at first but now knowing that it’s Coffee Day, a perfume with coffee note it is!
Cuir de Lancome this morning, like a lot of people this week. Had a sniff of Galop yesterday after work. It reminded me of maybe a Le Gallion, but don’t know which one. Its top note was a little…raspy, reminding me of a cat’s tongue. Not a very helpful description, I know.
Also stopped by the Cartier store this – alas, no jewellery purchases for this month – and the SA was both nice and knowledgeable. Her favourite of the Hours was the 13th, which was an interesting and refined leather.
I wore CdL for 3 days straight this week. You smell mahvelous, darling.
Cuir de Lancome is going to be the first thing I buy once I find a job… it will be my first true FB blind buy, but I feel safe because I love leather and it is so universally loved…
Mine was a blind buy, and I love it!
You will not regret it! I love it.
I don’t regret the blind buy.
You smell fantastic.
Spending the day antiquing in 1932.
What a fun combo! Enjoy yourself 🙂
very nice !
I am wearing Caron Nuit de Noel. This is one of the fragrances usually forgotten all the way in the back of my perfume cabinet. Beautiful, nostalgic, woody, rosy perfume with lots of oakmoss that I really enjoy. It becomes powdery on me with a moderate sillage and projection. I have received a couple of compliments today at work and I wonder why I do not wear it more often.
You smell great!
Oh and we have the same nickname except 67, only in different languages
Hello nickname almost twin! 🙂
Scents of the day include Jo Malone Orange Blossom Body Crème with Vintage Gardenia Cologne.
I haven’t tried the OB cream, but JM body creams are usually fantastic
JM Orange Blossom is so lovely! I’m not familiar with Vintage Gardenia.
It was discontinued a few years ago.
Kiehl’s musk oil today. Cozy and delicious.
Hope all the NST peeps in NJ/NY are safe today and that no one was onboard the train that crashed into the Hoboken Terminal.
Such a wonderful scent
I’ve been enjoying the Kiehl’s musk body wash (or shower gel or whatever they call it) lately.
Love Kiehl’s Musk!
Downing my last sip of coffee (I’m an avid supporter of national coffee day ????) before heading out the door. Wearing Bond Chinatown from a sample vial…it is sweeeeet! Hoping I don’t regret this fragrance choice!
Oh I love wearing Chinatown in cool weather-you smell great ????
I think I’d like this better in cooler weather. I’ll try it again soon!
So, I think it will be Habanita for me tomorrow, circa 1921! Yesterday it was Olympic Orchids Gujarat which smells like lime chutney, flowers and smoke. An immersive and oddly wonderful perfume. Today it is Eris Night Flower with some Unum Lavs around the neck. I was decanting the Lavs from a large sample and there was a tad left in the pipette. Much too lovely to waste.
You smell perfect! I will try that combination.
SOTD is Aeon “001”. This is a strange and attractive beast; it goes on with strong vetiver smelling almost like leather, and then dries down to sweet resins. Someone on Fragrantica thought it reminiscent of Onda and I see the resemblance (to the EDP anyway). Anyway, this is a ‘manly floral’ that has earned the right to call itself so. Although it’s not so manly that a woman wouldn’t enjoy it. :^)
No idea why this truns up as a comment on stinker_kit’s post! :^)
I got a FB of Night Flower from Ms Herman herself at a Paris expo back in June. Lovely stuff! :^)
SOTD=Seville a l”Aube. I received a generous decant from a lovely NST’er. I liked it, but thought it was too heavy when I tried it in the hot summer. Today it is just right, and I really love it. It’s orangey and incensey and is lasting on my scent eating skin.
This is definitely a wonderful autumn scent.
Its one of my favorite fall scents as well. And I like that it lasts a long time on my skin (not all L’Artisans do).
Mmmm, you smell good, I think I will switch to Seville a l’Aube when I get home.
Yes I might put some on too..
Nooooooo – just realized I forgot to put on fragrance as I rushed out the door this morning. And I have none with me or in my desk. Let that be a lesson to me. SOTD would have been Therema Esprit D’Ete.
I need to get another sample of Bois des Iles – I want to try it again. Can someone remind me why we call it Box of Eels (besides the obvious sound similarities)?
Oh crikey, I thought that was an actual perfume name! I was literally just thinking, ” lots of oeople wear this Box of Eels, I should check it out, lol!
I am SO glad that I didn’t have a mouthful of tea when I read you comment! 😀 Love it!
There was someone’s hubby who thought that’s what she was saying when she said Bois des Iles.
Ah! Thanks! Very cute. : )
Oh my, that is difficult! Thanks for reminding me. I had a bag of samples but had to lighten what I carry in my handbag and forgot to put them back. They are as important as the car keys!
Wallowing in Encens et Lavande from a second hand bell jar I received yesterday.
The bottle and the scent are things of beauty
Beautiful!
So lovely. Years ago one mother’s day SL was offering free engraving and I now have an engraved bottle of Encens et Lavande. A nice keepsake.
SotMorning = Caron Bellodgia (1927) from a small decant. I’ll be sad when this one is gone.
Wearing it early and dabbed lightly so it will be a memory before the day warms up. High today almost 90 degrees F.
My heart is heavy for Hoboken and NJ family and friends. Be safe everybody.
Bellodgia is a beauty!
Amber Oud by Killian. I love this stuff too. Good for this cold and rainy day. The pony has bruised his foot. Ugh. Poor baby.
The software upgrade is, to put it kindly, a complete nightmare. 8 days to go live and they keep making changes to the core build. Ugh.
I have a sore throat. Ugh.
Thank you for letting me vent.
Clearly I am out of step with the flow of the universe. Time to do some overcoming obstacles practice. And sniff the back of my hand. 🙂
hope you feel better, but you smell great!
Hope you and the pony feel better soon!
Bad run of luck but Amber Oud is so good I’m sure it can help you through!
I had the same kind of obstacle-strewn day. Well, there’s always tomorrow.
Robin, you smell divine and not like eels at all!
SOTD: Angel Muse
Comfort galore!
You smell great! Muse is the only Angel I like.
The only Angel I like, too, but I have to wait for the fruity top notes to settle.
Exactly right. Top notes are too funky for me, but settle down quickly.
You smell great- comfort that doesn’t abandon you.
Got a couple of samples from Sephora and it really is kind of delicious.
This is my first Sephora sample 😉
I think a bottle or at least a good sized decant is in my future.
Will try my sample this weekend!
It reminds me just a little of Coromandel because of the patch & sweet notes.
“Box of eels” always makes me think of those bento boxes with eel my son eats…not the best “smell” picture for Bois d’Iles 😉
My intention was to stick with ‘still ticking’ classic Guerlains this week and wear Shalimar today. However I apparently stashed it somewhere and didn’t have time to go digging. So I’ve switch houses to Chanel with Cuir de Russie. It is making me feel quite elegant.
elegant is a good word for Cuir de Russie.
Well, if you can’t do Shalimar, CdR is not a bad way to go. ????
Amouafe Fate for a windy fall day. Going to the 5th anniversary party of the Etiket perfume boutique tonight at 6pm with Hera, should be fun. 🙂
you smell wonderful. have a lovely time!
Fate is so good, you smell awesome!
Wearing my precious- Vintage Mitsouko parfum. It’s soooo good, I do not regret spending the $ at all. Preciousssssss! (say in Gollum voice)
I’m hoping to get my new pretties in the mail today, so I can wear Cologne Imperiale tomorrow – because I am just not feelin’ Jicky right now.
Coffee of the day – the usual, decaf dark magic from the Keurig. I really want to go back to a regular coffee maker, but Mr. Dilettante loves his gadgets.
I wish I could smell you!
I wish everyone could smell this!
I’m imagining how good vintage extrait smells… [contented sigh]
Thursday!
1) Homemade chicory coffee with steamed almond milk and yes, yes, a cinnamon sugar donut.
2) In Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily. I have come down with sniffles and a cough, and dagl feels very comforting to wear.
3) Y’ALL: In relation to Robin’s quoted post about the cost of fragrances:
Took a quick spin through Anthropologie last night. Saw a nice green drapey kimono style cardigan made of a cotton -poly blend. Price was a eye watering $388. It was not even lined. Was able to find one in a similar style with similar fabric at $49.99.
I want your breakfast. That sounds delicious – all of it.
The kimono cardigan sounds awesome, but definitely NOT at that price. Where did you find the similar?
Hi there! Wonderful way to start the day at the office ( I usually drink water before leaving on my commute). Today the boss bought these wonderful donuts from a local place (Sesame Donuts).
I found the dupe at ModCloth (there is a IRL store here in PDX) , and get this- fabric was thicker, warmer, with a sort of shibori style check- perfect for layering for fall and winter. They have a special going on, so will jump on it.
Great find!
Oh that drives me nuts. Cheap fabric at astronomical prices.
Oh it was just NUTS. Not lined, the pockets just hooked on…but hey, $388. Who the [censored] is gonna buy that at $388? I swear, sometimes the prices are just there gage the amount of suckers that a store can attract.
I remember the time Anthropologie still had sane prices and great stuff… I remember going out of curiosity into a newish Anthropologie store and emerging with, like, 5 dresses for, like, $50 each…I felt I totally went mad, just could not resist those dresses…still have them, too
Oh, I don’t doubt it, much of the clothing is very fun!
Part of the issue is the pricing for the thing. It was poly/cotton blend and not particularly patterned or lined. Great for putting on to go to the store or the local coffee bar, but not a $400 item. On the other hand, I could get 1-2 DVF dresses, well sewn and made of silk jersey, for that price.
Another issue I think is that Anthropologie in the Pearl District is the ‘model’ store right now for the rest of the chain, and so they have some interesting things that are priced WAY out of the comfort zone of many Portlanders.
You would think clothing manufacturers should be able to find some balance between sensible priced clothing and garment workers being paid a living wage. NZ is about to get its first H&M store and already there are protests about factory conditions etc. Your jacket/ cardigan sounds super cool
Yes, one does wonder how the p&l works out for clothing manufacturers.
Breakfast sound perfect!
Love Dark Amber and Ginger Lily. If it came in a travel size it would be my next purchase! Discussed this recently with SA at JM and she graciously gave me a few sample vials to keep me content – for now!
Nice score on the Anthropologie dupe!
Oh, it is such a lovely scent. I think I would get a full bottle- it a more subtle, woody cousin to Black Jade and beautifully easy to wear. Or the body cream or oil, which I would wear as perfume.
The markups sometimes amaze me. There is this start-up, Everlane, which does your basic t-shirts, sweaters (including cashmere), pants, bags – etc. The prices are way way way lower than ‘brands’, the quality is amazing – I bought t-shirts from them 4 years ago, and they still look great after heavy wear and countless machine washing. Their designs are simple – no crazy graphics, etc – so if that works for you, I highly recommend their product. Everything is returnable within a couple of month.
Basic is me! Thanks for the rec.!
Hey, I have heard of them! Thank you for the heads up!
This sounds great, thanks for sharing. I can’t stand buying clothes any more because they are so overpriced and chintzy.
Thanks for the good tip, a focus on ethics in factories and they ship to Canada!
They are great. I only have good things to say about them – and their Pima Cotton tees (which I am impartial to) – cost between 20 and 30 – Rag & Bone charges 90.
Crazy pricing. The Turin column made me laugh though as where I live you can’t really get what I imagine Luca Turin considers a good dinner for two with a bottle of wine for 120 dollars. With no liquor, maybe.
At the very least, Portland OR is still place where a very good dinner with wine, cocktails and dessert can be had for $120- or less- for two people. But price creep is here!
Ah but Portland OR is heaven!
Hee! Trust and believe we have SERIOUS issues here. But this is a deeply beautiful and creative place, and I am very privileged to live here.
I really truly love it there.
I groaned a little at that too. I totally agree with his point that some perfumes are priced so high just to make the customer feel special and not because they are worth it, but I wish a good dinner for two with a good bottle of wine could be found near me for 120 dollars.
Certainly not in Zurich, where he made that observation, a good bottle is going to be 40, 50 francs at least.
wearing Dusita Oudh Infini today.
Ooooh, I JUST asked if anyone has tried Dusita! What are your thoughts??
Oudh Infini is the one that most intimidates me, but I am dying to try Issara, Melodie, and the two new fragrances to be released by year end.
really well done. you can tell it’s an extrait. it is sweet, animalic, and funky, which I love. I wish it wasn’t 400 bucks! I haven’t smelled an oud quite like this one. it’s sort of like oud had a threesome with MKK and sweet tobacco. I have samples of the other two as well, the gardenia smelled really well done from first sniff, and Isaara I don’t quite remember what it smelled like on paper, but I’m going to wear it soon.
Thank you for your review, I am almost positive that Oudh Infini and I will not be friends, still working my way through animalics and true oud, but I think I’ll have to try it out all the same 🙂
I am hoping Melodie will be a good replacement for a Sultan Pasha attar I tried, Borneo Gardenia. And let me know what you think of Isaara when you do try it out!
Sounds like APLS, any similarity?
I ordered a sample of Dusita Issara because it was on a list of best men’s fragrances. I wasn’t bowled over, but the price and the fact that it was a dauber vial might have had something to do with that.
Yeah 400 is steep steep steep to me. Fortunately said perfume was a little too fecal for me, so no temptation. I didn’t get all the roses Kafkaesque so beautifully describes, but maybe because I was dabbing. Melodie isn’t my think either and the Issara is way too barbershop for me. But I am looking forward to trying the two new ones.
SOTD: Prada Candy, which gets along with coffee like gangbusters 🙂
Yum! Prada Candy is a simple pleasure.
It is SO delicious.
I wish I had remembered I have a sample of that! You smell good.
Thanks! (I just reapplied!)
Do you think that somewhere some graduate student is toiling away on the respective merits and distinctions between National Coffee Day and International Coffee Day?
I’m in Prima T, the 2012 version. It reminds me a lot of Joy–if you love Joy, you will probably like Prima T. When I look up the notes, I am surprised that there isn’t more overlap, so it must be the style. Prima T definitely reminds me of the complex florals of the 30s and 40s. To me, its jasmine is most prominent, and maybe that is also why it reminds me of Joy. Anyway, it is beautiful!
Ha!
There’s probably a graduate student toiling away on the question of whether there’s a graduate student toiling away on the respective merits and distinctions between National and International Coffee Day
Must de Cartier EdT for me.
Love Must ????
SOTD is Tiziana Terenzi Gold Rose Oudh from a sample. I am quickly becoming obsessed with this one. It starts out sharp but the dry down is really soft and pretty. The rose is really a 3D juicy one. Gorgeous. It’s an extrait, but only lasts about 4 hours.
I swapped away my TT White Fire because the longevity was so poor, and there were two other Terenzis at the same swap. All of us agreed that an extrait should last longer.
From what I’ve heard TT perfumes’ longivity greatly varies. I have a sample of Laudano Nero and it lasts 18+ hours on my skin.
I have TT’s Arenthusia and Maremma…love the Maremma and it lasts on my skin. It also brings back memories of a trip I made to Italy in 2005 and spent some time in Maremma, which is the area in the Tuscany panhandle where all the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns were filmed.
I of course started my Coffee Day at Tim Horton’s, I AM CANADIAN. I am wearing Bottega The Knot but I can’t say it is giving me much pleasure, so I will switch to Seville l”Aube when I get home.
Good call – I like Seville better too. 🙂
I like both, but Seville is definitely my favorite!
I feel like I inadvertently nailed today’s National Coffee Day, left for work early and picked up a Vietnamese iced coffee while wearing Frapin 1270, which has coffee in the top notes 🙂
I’ve been on a decant freeze, but thinking about breaking it to try out the Dusita line. Has anyone tried them?
There’s a comment stream above you probably just missed!
I just had vietnamese coffee ice cream. 🙂
I have to try this. I had Vietnamese coffee once and my toes got twitchy with all the caffeine!
Just a quick check in for now because its birthday time and am on the way to dinner with friends. Sprayed myself with Mimosa & Cardamon. That and a good G&T = bliss ????
Happy Birthday! Best wishes!
Happy Birthday!- hope u have a fantastic evening, enjoy those G&T’s!
Happy birthday Mariann
Happy Birthday????
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! You smell lovely.
Happy birthday, Mariann!
Thank you all! 🙂
Happy Birthday!
Yay to the Coffee day – although every day is a coffee celebration for me!!
SOTD – Hars Leather. I feel for once my outfit matches my fragrance – biker leather jacket, black leggings and black t-shirt 🙂
You look stunning!
Yes, me too!
How is today any different than every other day with regards to the love I give coffee.
You look badass!
Question for you guys – has anyone tried Piruette Fragrances? I heard nice things about their Rose Musk
SOTD = Ava Luxe Cafe Noir in honor of National Coffee Day.
Perfect!
Gorgeous!!!
I’m in CdG Champaca EDT and thoroughly loving it. This is great for the office since we are technically a fragrance free workplace (yeah, right). It’s soft and subtle but it’s not boring, just a really great floral. I’m on my 2nd decant and can see buying a bottle when this is gone.
I’ve had a very violet themed day wearing Misia, a violet& Rose scented Lancôme lipstick, in a lovely medium pink shade, and Kusmi Violet tea with pancakes and maple syrup this afternoon, comfort to counteract the dreary weather.
Might spritz on some Seville A L’aube now Misia has worn off.
Yum to all!
+1 on the yum to all comment!
Today is my 27th wedding anniversary. My husband is currently out of town, and will be back tomorrow night. I am going to pick him up from the airport, and I will hopefully match the Friday fragrance community project and one that he loves on me.
Every now and then I ask him to pick a perfume he’d like me to wear if we are going out somewhere. He usually picks one of these three: L’Heure Bleu, Cuir de Russie or Alaia. I know two out of these three are old. I’ll have to check the dates to see which one is older.
Today I’m wearing Givenchy Very Irresistible L’Eau en Rose–a very simple scent, which is what I need for today.
Happy Anniversary, Barqs!
Happy Anniversary!!!!
Have a lovely evening. You can’t go wrong with thise scents.
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary ????
Happy Anniversary! Wow, 27 years!
Happy anniversary! Something for me to aspire to 🙂
Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
L’Heure Bleue is older than Cuir de Russie. No.5 is the oldest Chanel scent and LHB was launched before it.
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary, may you have many more happy years!
Thanks for the anniversary wishes!
Yes — 27 years ago today I was a bride. I probably wore Estee Lauder Private Collection on my wedding day. I didn’t take notice back then, so different from now 🙂
Congratulations , Barqs! I was a bride 15 years ago today, after a 24 year courtship. I wore Jessica McLintock then and tonight. We always go to the same restaurant where our wedding was held, on the exact same date. May you have many more perfumed years together.
Happy anniversary Celestia !
Happy anniversary! 27 years is impressive!
Happy anniversary! What a milestone!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Still ticking in vintage Chanel no. 5 EDT. Happy Thursday ????
I was running errands this afternoon and stopped at a perfume counter for a spritz of No. 5 EdT. Exquisitely polished.
I wanted musk today, so Muscs Kublai Khan it is!
This sounds like a really good musk. A musk try.
If you can’t find a sample, let me know and I’ll send you some…plus some info about my fantastic car mats ;-).
Oh, you noticed….Have a fab weekend. I can get a sample but thank you so much.
Wow, where did the day go? I looked up from my desk and it’s 1:22 PM.
I am wearing Lalique Le Parfum today which smells much more expensive than it actually is. A cheap thrill recommended by my perfumista BFF. I especially love the opening.
I was just looking at that Mercedes Benz fragrance post and wondering if I would ever buy a car scent. I drive a 1998 toyota , interior dog hair and wet dog, muddy tramping boots, no car mats ( sorry, had to mention that), bottles of Bronze Goddess and Poison Girl in the glove box. Women buy cars, right? The only car scent that would tempt me would be called Saga , based on the mustard porsche from the Swedish series The Bridge. Saga wears leather pants so the scent would feature leather. She’s always driving back and forth over the bridge at night or in grey murky weather so maybe a salty note? A bit of industrial wasteland, blood, skank ( she’s into sex)….yeah, no….guess car scents aren’t my thing. Wearing Black Cashmere. There’s a 100ml bottle of it and Fendi theroman for sale on an australian site….can’t do musk again.
Theorema…apologies to Robin! Will discipline myself for spelling and ensure it never happens again
If you forgive my spelling errors I forgive yours 🙂
You will never be sad about Theorema. Well, if you are, someone else will be super-delighted when the swap day approaches.
Santa Maria Novella makes a cologne called Nostalgia intended to capture the scent of a vintage race car. It’s a weird leather scent that includes vinyl and petroleum and manages to smell very good, whether in spite or because of its weirdness.
I purchased a small sample of this recently as my husband & I ( still sounds more correct than Me) drive in the high performance driving courses (race tracks) as a hobby.
I haven’t tried it yet, I am waiting fo open it at the next driving meet, has anyone tried it?
Anubis for the finally cooler day. I came to the perfume game late and don’t have a lot of older perfumes, so not sure if I’ll participate tomorrow. Also a teach in at work so a somber day that will require perfume restraint. Today I can wallow.
Wallow away!
Fantastic! :^)
Mmm, you smell great! Love Anubis.
Amouage Myths Woman today! From the wonderful hamamelis 🙂 I appreciate its quality, but think my sample might be better appreciated by someone else. Good thing the swapmeet is coming up! It’s always good to have a few freebies on hand.
Continuing with incense loaded fragrances this week- TF Sahara Noir- perfect for the cold and rainy day.
PSA: Premiere Avenue is having a 20% off Serge Lutens sale until 5pm September 30 (their time) with code SERGELUTENSPA20160929. Free shipping in Europe.
I’ve been away for a few days and haven’t quite caught up with myself yet. I haven’t worked out which perfume best fits the Friday theme, but figure that any of the older Guerlains must be on the right track so Vol de Nuit for me today.
That’s what I’m figuring – not a vintage girl, but I have some Sous le Vent here.
One of my favorite Guerlains!
You smell great.
Trying Byredo Bal D’Afrique today. This is the first Byredo I’ve sampled. Started out creamy and turned floral. Some part of it is reminding me of the Ombré Rose my mom used to wear in the early 80’s, even though there is no rose listed in the notes…hmm????
I love that outfit and photo! The combo has “Patsy Stone” written all over it (especially since it’s Chanel)!
It’s supposed to be near 90 here today, so I’m in Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca.
Ditto on the Patsy!
It makes me think of the flashback sequences to her modeling days.
Patsy Stone for President!
Now there’s an idea!
If only! I’d put Saffy on the ticket as VP.
I’m wearing Patchouli 24 today. It actually felt semi-fallish this morning, and I think the high is actually supposed to be below 90. Yay!
As much as I love this one, I rarely wear it when it is warm, but I once smelled it on someone else on a balmy night, and it was delightful…
I would love a fragrance with a good coffee note. But not exactly (photo)realism, one that was part of a complex brew.
Today I’m holding off on fragrance as I’m having a terrible allergies morning and we’re going sniffing later this afternoon, so I’d like to go easy on the histamine triggers :-p
Yesterday I stumbled into a store where they had 3 of the libertine fragrances, and I got to try the Sex and Jasmine, which was really quite good, and comes in 15ml size. Not spending money these days, but good to see Canadian and critical darling scents in the wild.
have you tried New Haarlem by Bond or Intoxicated by Kilian?
No neither, but I have a chance of running into the Killian at one of our dept stores, for a spritz or sample.
Sampling again today, in the hopes of making a dent in the sample pile. SOTD is a big NOPE on me, Replica Jazz Club. It makes me a little nauseous. Sorry to any fans out there. 🙁
I will cross this off my list of samples to try. Thank you for saving me some skin time!
Yeah, there was something that came off as really artificial and/or synthetic in the top notes.
Sensuous Noir for me this evening. We are going to a ballet performance so I want to be low key but adult.
Ah, the ballet. Love it. Enjoy!
It was Fall into Dance at City Center. Different dance companies. My favorites were a Brazilian Company and a Canadian one.
My day went to pot today with the New Jersey Transit train crash in Hoboken. I started the day feeling optimistic that I could knock off a bunch of things from my plate, but no. So the good news is that it is not my train line or station but the bad news is it is for an unknown number of people at work. Without getting into details, I ended up having to facilitate 3 calls (and write the minutes), attending 2 other calls and fielded over a dozen emails, calls and instant messaging about something defective that I couldn’t have done anything about but by association was deemed to be someone who could work miracles to fix it (sounds familiar, this working a miracle bit). Really. at the end of the day, we were lucky that it is isn’t worse. If previous train crashes had not convinced me that the first car is the worst car to be in in the event of an accident, I had just been cured of that skepticism.
Anyway, SOTD = MPG Ambre Precieux
I know I’ll be ODing on ambers as long as the temps are in the coolish range. Did I mentionu I smell pretty darn good.
Tomorrow, I may end up failing the challenge as I got a good size sample of MFK Grand Soir to tide me over while waiting for my decant.
Ooh, wore that one yesterday and you do smell pretty darn good!! What are your other Ambers? I love them in the fall too.
Sorry for your day.
Thanks. Some favorite FB ambers – Rania J. Ambre Loup, Dior Mitzah, By Killian Amber Oud, Tom Ford Amber Absolute, Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles, Arabian Oud Kalemat. Favorite decant ambers – Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche, Profumum Ambra Aurea
Great list-thanks!
I’m glad it wasn’t your line! And yes to amber!
Thank you Amy!
Very relieved that it wasn’t your stop, but Ach! What a day!
What a day is right!
It’s always a bit of a dilemma in the Metro, where I feel it’s safer to be in the car that the driver can see into. I guess I need to figure out the odds of human versus mechanical mayhem.
What a day, but glad it wasn’t even worse. Hope all our NYC/NJ NSTers are OK>
(That last character was only supposed to be a period.)
For me, I like to sit in the first car in the mornings because it is the quiet car – no cell phone talking and very/low minimal talking to each other. Coming home I’m almost never in the first car because it is far from a station exit.
Sorry about your day. So glad that wasn’t your train!
Never did get any coffee, so that may explain my disjointed day. My challenge, perfume wise, was to find something I could actually smell through my cold. Wore Santal Blanc, and I’ve managed to get a few whiffs here and there.
Hope all our train commuters are safe, but can I say how much I’m enjoying the revival of the term “mayhem?” So accurately depicts day to day living. 🙂
Hope you can kick that cold soon!
You got me with Box of Eels. I thought, is that something new by ELdO?
So many people use the phrase in the comments I thought everyone knew it!
