Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I stayed up too late last night and I'm dragging. Perfume at the moment is a little spritz of L'Artisan Ananas Fizz (Oakland Fresca reminded me of it yesterday), tea at the moment is my third cup of Irish Breakfast from Upton.
Reminder: 9/30 will be Still Ticking Friday — wear the perfume in your collection that has been on the market longest (so the perfume with the earliest launch year, that is still in production — not necessarily your oldest bottle).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is a Rosenthal Corinth tea set, $295 (used) at TheRealReal.
I’m wearing Coromandel and I’ve already had 2 nice compliments on it.
So good! You smell wonderful.
That is because you smell amazing
U smell wonderful!
I wore that on Saturday and again yesterday. It is an amazing scent.
Lovely. I’ve been wearing that lately too but tend to use it more for evenings.
Scent twin(ish)!
wonderful!
I wore it out Saturday night and got a compliment (something that almost never happens.) Happy it can go back into rotation, being autumn and all.
You smell delicious!
You smell awesome????
Thank everyone! Someone commented on here that they like Coromandel best in summer, and I did like it when I tried it on a warm day, but I think I slightly prefer it in slightly cooler weather.
I’m wearing Guerlain Chamade today. It’s gorgeous. Tea is Bancha Hojicha which I’m not quite loving.
You do smell fantastic! Sorry about the tea.
So pretty. You smell beautiful today.
Mmm, Chamade.
Berdoues oud el sharaaaaaaaaa for another hot hot day.
Such beautiful bottles
Love the bottles!! Haven’t tested that one yet.
Love that one …you smell great! and yes, I love the bottles too!
Olibanum Profumum Roma.
Gorgeous!
OOTD: Wal-Mart Jeans $9.96.
Uber expensive “designer” flannel shirt gifted by EX-paramour.
Saffron-Do you like the earrings I gave you?
Eddie-Are they REALLY Christian LaCroix?
Saffron-Yes
Eddie-Then I really like them!
LOLOLOL
Funny as fiction, not so much in real life.
Onward and upward!
To the left, to the left, all your stuff in a box to the left!
Cheers! !! 😀
Remember when Eddie is wearing that ghastly orange sweater with Lacroix in gold letters on it?
Patsy, slightly shocked by this garish garment asks: What are you wearing? Eddie: It’s Lacroix, darling. Patsy: You look fabulous.
Yes! LOL
The fashion of LaCroix was perfect for AbFab.
So “designer”!! LOL
A younger friend who recently experienced something similar told me about a pop self help book that helped her. – ” The 5 love Languages”. There’s quite a bit of disconnect on gift giving among couples/ families.
You smell great!!
A friend of mine has recommended that same book several times. Very enlightening.
Adore that show. Still have not seen the movie but dismayed by the bad reviews.
I saw the movie last Friday, and though I tend to agree with the reviews in that the film isn’t anywhere near as good as the series, I still left the cinema with a big smile on my face. I just love watching Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley being funny and outrageous.
I completely missed this cultural touchstone! Will investigate AbFab. My mother-in-law used to look under the bowls and platters that were given as gifts. I learned early to make sure the Deruta or Limoges was easy to spot! I still marvel at the security and satisfaction the provenance gave her.
You really should investigate AbFab. Start with the series though.
Love your MIL anecdote. My own mother, who actually really loves china and has accumulated quite the collection over the years, would always use her Limoges when one of her more snobbish friends would visit. Always worked, much to my mum’s amusement.
Probably the same with perfumes?
I don’t remember ever smelling any perfume on her. So I couldn’t comment as to that.
My mother wears whatever I gift her with, she has a very bad sense of smell, but loves wearing perfume and trying out different things. One of her favourites is Une fleur de Cassie.
Oh boy, I would give $100 to be able to watch Ab Fab for the first time again. 😀
Enjoy!!!
Oh good! So glad to hear it.
I’ll watch it regardless of what anyone has to say about it. Somewhat amazingly, my husband has never heard of Ab Fab (?) I guess that’s because he’s a straight male of a different generation (8 yrs younger than I), but still!
Still haven’t seen the movie. Like a reformulated perfume, I may just let it be.
The past has a golden glow, the present rarely achieves.
Gotta love a triple strength coffee buzz. LOL
😉
You smell great!
I didn’t get enough sleep either! SOTD is Knowing.
I really need to put a timer on my router so it automatically shuts off at 11.
What a great idea!
That is brilliant, like a thermostat program.
We have a timer on ours! 10pm…OFF. No kids on computers at bedtime! 🙂 It forces me to power down too…..
Smart.
Forest Walk for me today.
On my second cup of tea – English Breakfast.
ootd: super comfy and soft terrycloth dark grey sweatshirt with a moose on it I got on our honeymoon (Grand Teton Nat’l Park) and long, stretchy cotton black pencil skirt. It’s like I’m wearing PJs I’m wrapped in so much soft today.
Your outfit and scent sound very comfy indeed.
Good morning Robin ????Longtime reader here coming out of lurking to comment this morning. Love your blog-It’s become my morning routine with coffee!
Wearing Terracotta Le Parfume this morning; hanging on to the last glimmers of summer before it gets so cold I have to admit winters coming! Loving the beachy sunscreen and imagining the sand and waves. :).
Weather will probably tank the first of October and I’ll go to my standby L’ambre Des Merveilles. Such cozy fragrant armor against the cold.
I’m looking for a new cozy. Any suggestions? The coffee/Amber by Kerosene sounded promising but not out yet, right?
Thanks!
I’m excited about the new Kerosene too. Can one ever have too many cozy scents? 🙂
Ooh I loveTerracotta, although I have the sunscreen and not yet tried the perfume, and L’Ambre Des Merveilles is one of my autumn favourites too.
Hello and welcome! I think the Kerosene will be out in a couple weeks.
L’Ambre is great, and I’m sure you’ll get other recs. Plus, we do still do The Monday Mail on request if you’d like to “formally” ask for other reader’s advice:
https://nstperfume.com/the-monday-mail/
Thanks for the welcome all!
@floralgal- ???? no- the more cozies the better life is! Hoping the new Kerosene is a Kepler scent!
@mayfly- if you like the sunscreen I think you’d like the perfume. It’s easy to wear and pretty. 🙂
@robin- thank you! I might do that. ????
Keeper scent! ????
L’Ambre des Merveilles is beautiful in cool weather. I wore it the other day layered with L’artisan L’eau d Ambre Extreme and I felt they went quite well together. It occurred to me hours later why: both Jean Claude Ellena creations!
Ambre Sultan and L’air du desert Marocain are also both great cool weather scents imo.????
Madtowngirl- yes it is!
And thank you for the rec.! I’ll check those out. Sounds like a good combo. ????
L’Ambre is great and my favorite of that series, but I associate it with the beach for some reason. It’s a summer cozy!
Welcome!
Hello, missyl!
Continuing on with honey notes today with Prairie Nymph.
You smell good!
I’m gonna quit watching politics at night. Raises my blood pressure and affects good sleep! LOL! 🙂
SOTD: Note Fragrances White Pepper Mandarin.
Definitely! What was I thinking? I really would be happier and better rested if I’d just waited and read a few recaps in the morning.
That said, it’s gonna happen again.
I did that! I watched Star Trek Next Gen reruns instead. Much calmer 🙂 .
That’s so funny….my hubby was watching Next Gen last night too!!! LOL! Between that and the Falcons/Saints football game, he avoided politics altogether…. 🙂
I’d vote for Captain Picard for anything!
My son’s assignment was to watch the debate and take notes on each of the candidate’s policy positions. When I looked over at what he was writing he was making a doodle of our cat.
Probably a better use of his time! LOL!
That made me laugh out loud. Thank you!
Thanks for the laugh this morning 🙂
Right after the debate started our power went out for 2 hrs. I just sat in the dark silence and said “Thank you.” ????
Ha! I refused to watch the debate.
That is too funny!!
Sticking with Mitsouko for a second day in a row. I wore the extrait yesterday and could still detect traces this morning. For comparison’s sake, I am wearing the EDP today. It’s a bit brighter than the extrait with more projection, though I don’t think too obnoxiously so.
Does anyone know the status of the EDP? I think read some time ago that Guerlain had pulled it off the shelves for quality-control reasons… Has it returned?
Yes, according to Monsieur Guerlain…no affiliation…
http://www.monsieurguerlain.com/2016/09/mitsouko-lheure-bleue-and-doctor-wasser.html
Thank you, She-ra!
She-ra, I need your address so I can send you the Mitsouko et al.
I have sent it. 🙂
Hermes Voyage d’Hermes. Just got this and I am loving it.
I think this one is really great. You smell wonderful.
SOTD: Narciso edp
Definitely could use some more sleep today. Last night’s debate was not helpful in getting to bed, peacefully and at a decent time.
I just moments ago (finally) bought a bottle of this. I’ve really been craving it since the change of seasons.
You smell delicious!
Why, thank you! 🙂
It’s a great bottle to own, a real beauty.
The names are so confusing, I have no idea which is which. I like the Absolue in the burgundy bottle and the black cube one.
Box of Eels today. I decided to spray a little on my clothes, as someone suggested, to see if that would keep the fragrance going for the day. I don’t usually have difficulty with perfumes staying with me, but this one does seem to fade as the day wears on.
Cuir de Lancôme was calling me on this slightly chilly morning, I’m loving being reunited with this beauty, so so perfect in the autumn.
Pairing it with an old Chanel Aqua lumiere lipstick in a gorgeous purply shimmery shade, grey cashmere jumper, paisley print scarf, jeans and brown suede boots,
Hooray for Autumn!
You smell wonderful.
Thanks mals, it’s surely one of the nicest scents for this time of year, along with safari of course!
I wish I had some paper dolls that I could dress up like you fashionistas..sigh.
Received a sample of Peau de Bete by Les Liquides Imaginaires, which I had to try after reading the Kafkaesque review. It’s has more leather and woods, and is more a skin scent on me, with much less civet and cumin, than Salome.
The tea set is beautiful, Robin. My second cup of coffee will be Kusmi Violet tea.
Kusmi Violet!!!
Oh, I have some Kusmi Violet down the staff room. It may be just the thing! Do you add sugar and/or dairy to yours? I generally don’t but maybe it would bring out the violet?
No, but I can certainly experiment.
Love Kusmi violet- what a lovely posh staff room u have!
I always have milk with it, but I always have milk with black tea anyway.
Yummy tea, love that one!
SOTD is Balenciaga Le Dix, and tea of the moment is a nearly finished latte.
Pretty scent. You smell nice. I have an old mini of Le Dix that I found in an antiques shop. I forget that I have it and really should wear it now that the weather is cooling off.
Me too, I’ve only worn it in the summer, it’s a bit too heavy on the powder then, but in cooler weather it’ll be elegant and cosy.
It IS elegant and cosy, and has reasonably good lasting power too. I’m about five hours in at this point and it’s hanging in there.
One of my favorite perfumes and my favorite drink 🙂 If I could have a latte in hand from waking to dinner, I’d be a happy camper.
😀
I’m wearing Commodity Whiskey on one hand and Mimosa on the other. These are simple but nice accords and I really like the little kit with 10 smells. Haven’t tried layering them yet, but will at some point.
Book update: I started The Queen of the Night that several people have mentioned here, but I’ve forgotten who exactly.
Mimosa has become one of my favorites.
The Queen of The Night sounds intriguing- off to investigate!
We’re in for a week of clouds and rain. I’m combating the gray by wearing Beloved today.
My lipstick is Strawberry which is a fruit pigmented bright rose shade by 100% Pure. I really like this company as they have some excellent products and aren’t loaded with chemicals.
Beloved will deal with almost any weather, you smell stunning.
You smell lovely! I think I’ll pull mine out this week.
Beloved! Yes, ma’am!
Haven’t tried that makeup brand, you’re shade sounds lovely, will look out for it.
Ours starts Saturday (and will be more like 8 months than 1 week.) Good time to start pulling out some leathers, I think.
Your perfume and lipstick are lovely. Beloved is one of my favorite Amouages.
Continuing back in time, I’m wearing 1962’s Fête by Molyneux, a real old-school oakmossy chypre with lots of peach and plum up top, like Mitsouko only not so aggressive. So good!
I have not smelled it, but yay for old school oakmossy chypres!
Today just felt like the type of morning to wear something bright and bold. My SOTD is Versace Bright Crystal Absolu. This one gets the job done.
It’s a bit cold and rainy, and it seems like perfect time for some Christian Dior Dune. Such a comforting scent!
You smell great!
I am wearing a bit of vintage Narcisse Noir parfum. I am trying to wear only pre-1930s launch scents this week. I haven’t smelled a newish sample of Narcisse Noir, but I do love the dark orange blossom with the woody mossy base of the vintage.
I am drinking some Lumbini Estate Ceylon.
I’m wearing M A C Air of Style today. A little fruity and spicy. It was given to me by a SA who said he couldn’t wear it, and wanted it to have a good home.
Well that was a nice SA ????
I am there with you Robin in terms of dragging, but need to wake up quickly with the coffee – I found the most amazing little roaster in my area and his has the best Brazilian and Columbian beans. The dude is nuts about roasting – and have continuously made the most amazing coffee drinks in coffee shops around me and now branched out on his own. My favorite of his – a flat latte with a drizzle of honey and some hot red pepper. Amazing!!
SOTD – Bergamoss. Another scorcher for us today
Love the chic avatar!
Great coffee! What a fortunate discovery .
Oh dear Clarissa. I want one of those~! A flat latte with a drizzle of honey and some hot red pepper STAT>
You smell amazing too!
Oh that coffee sounds heavenly!
It was heavenly. I smelled amazing for about 10 minutes – my son’s school sits on a pretty steep hill (30 degree slide), and of course there is no parking -so in the morning we have to climb up the hill for 2 blocks. It is not that big of the deal, but with temps at 90 in the morning already, and a naggy, sleepy boy, sweaty mom with running makeup – no fragrance will stick. I had to re-apply – now had my coffee, re-applied frag, got into air-conditioned building – feel very serene – work has nothing on a full of sweat morning hill climb!!!
I’m continuing my “still ticking” classics week in Guerlain Eau de Cologne Imperiale (since 1853). It won’t last long so I’ll probably end up testing my new sample of Tauerville Tuberose Flash. It arrived in the mail last night so I tried a small spritz before bed – Iiked the opening very much (green floral with quite a bit of funk) but then I feel asleep.
Try it again and report. I am looking forward to trying it. His creations are all amazing, even if not what you might wear in a group.
This might be an idea for the Friday community project, a perfume in your collection that you just don’t “get”. Most of us have either full bottles or decants of something we just don’t get. Right now, I am wearing Une Rose de Kandahar and I don’t understand this one to review it but I’m gonna try anyway.
I’d have to show up to that one in Niki de Sainte Phalle, and feel all weird about myself. I just “got” a bottle of Phi, though. 😉
Oh yes, I have these! Sometimes they eventually click.
You know, I initially loved Phi and then something happened and almost every Tauer – including this of which I have a FB – makes me queasy. This is different from what you are describing, but sad.
Ditto on the queasy. Finally tried some Tauer samples. For me an instant queasiness comes from the the clash of notes I like with that rich resinous sweetness. Phi is one of the worst (or Orange Star set me up for them continuing to smell bad). Of the ones I sampled, I sort of liked Incense Rose and Incense Extreme — less of the Tauerade? Admittedly, I haven’t tried any of the most loved ones, but now I have little interest.
Cool and rainy this morning. Wearing the cozy Barbara Bui Le Parfum today.
Le Parfum is cozy – love it!
Continuing my run of rather dubiously manly florals with SOTD “Corps et Ames eau de toillette apaisante” from Parfumerie Generale. It smells like a *very* upmarket toilet freshener.
SOTE is Blue Encens from CdG. Now I smell like myself. :^)
Nice one!
Not very “apaisant” then.
Dubiously manly or dubiously named? or both? I always chuckle when a scent doesn’t match its name. 😀
SOTD is Donna Karan Gold
Love Gold.
Gorgeous stuff.
Scents of the day are Après L’Ondée EdT (1906) with a wee dab of Mon Précieux Nectar (2012).
Have a terrific Tuesday, NST. Waft on!
NIce…
Thought about Apres l’Ondee for today – it rained hard yesterday evening! – but it’s too melancholy for all the stuff I have to do today. Beautiful scent, though.
Broke the seal on my recently purchased bottle of Chanel Bois des Îles. Smelling beautiful since 1926.
Thanks again to marvelous Chanel rep Akil at the Chevy Chase Saks!
You smell fantastic. Enjoy it.
Thanks to you, too, for introducing us to Akil!
Love Bois des Iles while it lasts on skin. I think that the parfum is in my future.
I’m wearing Le Labo Musc 25 today. I have to really buckle down and get some stuff done today, and this fragrance always makes me feel like I have more clarity. (In the immortal words of my husband’s tennis partner, “It’s time to get your bleep together! Volley, dang it!”)
So, my new bottle of Dzing! arrived last night, and I officially am not going to buy perfume for a year. My collection is housed in the box Chanel used to send my bottle of Beige, and I swore to myself that my collection would not expand outside of it. It’s now completely, 100% full (tetris was involved to get the new bottle inside). Time for a year of shopping the stash! The reward money I’ve been saving from marathon training will go towards my wardrobe, since I smell great but dress like a slob.
VOLLEY, DANG IT! The rallying cry for the day, if not the week. 🙂
Kudos on the new purchase and the tetris skills.
“Volley, dang it!” might be my new all-purpose phrase. 🙂
I admire your tetris-ing of perfume bottles and your Chanel box limit on collecting. I have my fragrances confined to a large glass tray. It’s hard to say “no more” sometimes but so far it seems worth the self-restraint.
Wearing the new No 5 flanker L’eau
I actually enjoy this one quite a bit. It is a great deal softer than my No 5, and there is more of a citrus note. It is definitively related to No 5.
I get about 8 hours wear from this one, but Chanels are always great for longevity on me.
How is it compared to Eau Premire? I’m curious about it. It’s a pity that TPC and STC can’t sell decants of Chanel anymore.
I find the L’eau much truer to the bone structure of the original then the Eau Premire. L’eau is a watercolour version f the oil painting which is No 5 EDT
Beautiful description of L’eau!
I will happily send you a sample if you’d like! email me at madtolive88510 at gee male.
I just tested it myself, and like it. It would make a nice summer perfume. I still smell the No 5 guts in it.
I’m finally, FINALLY getting over the longest cold in history and am beginning to be able to smell things again. Like the lovely Seville l’aube I’m wearing this morning.
I’m glad you’re feeling better and can smell again 🙂 Enjoy your Seville l’aube !
Since the lipstick conversation from last week, I am turning to NST with a problem. I bought a Tom Ford Patent Lip Colour for way too much money. It is in sort of a ball point pen format and I CAN’T MAKE IT WORK! Is anyone familiar with this product and what I’m doing wrong? I have clicked till my thumb has worn out!
I have zero experience with that item, but maybe call a store that carries it and ask for the Tom Ford counter? I would think they would try to help. Good luck!
That’s a good idea. I’ve got numb thumb from clicking!
I’m thinking you got a defective product. 🙁 I’d take it back and get it replaced.
I haven’t used this particular product, but I have used a lot of Ellis Faas that have similar packaging. I’ve gone through the same thing with them when they’re new, wondering why the hell the product won’t come out. Turns out you really have to just keep clicking for an eternity to get it going. So I’d try that 😉
I don’t have experience with that product, but I had a Stila gloss with that twist/click mechanism and went through the same thing. Kept clicking and nothing came out so I recapped it and threw it in my bag only to discover a gooey mess later when it decided to catch up. I’m not a fan of that mechanism. Seems too hard to control the amount.
Comparing No. 5 L’eau and Eau Première, one on each wrist. Like this, Première’s relationship to No. 5 is very clear, while L’eau really smells like an entirely different fragrance. Compared to L’eau, Première has almost a syrup-y quality–not maple, but something you could pour over pancakes…that smells like Chanel No.5. I agree with everyone who said that L’eau is not particularly groundbreaking–but it is very pretty, and fresh without being stupid.
Eau Première smells so much like Coca-Cola to me (in a nice way)!
I found a scented card from a week and a half ago with No. 5 L’eau on it. It was still scented.
It is a lovely scent. I need to sample further.
That vanilla/amber richness in Eau Premiere grounds it, and makes it appealing. I really look for ward to trying L’eau
I’ve got the 2007 iteration of Eau Premiere, and it’s the good dollop of sandalwood that lends the syrupy quality.
In Sweet Morphine today…
I love this one. you smell great.
I really need to try this.
Not sure when you’re back in SD but we should do another meet up and I can bring you a bit of Sweet Morphine. Nice stuff.
I’ll be back Nov. 1st and would love to do another meetup! Thanks for the kind offer.
Late posting today, went commando for a doctor’s appt, now happily wearing Honour Man (Amouage).
I’m not sure yet what I’ll be wearing this Friday, but I have lots and lots of oldies-but-goodies to choose from, more than enough to make it a week of classics. Today I’m in No. 19, and in heaven (smell-wise, at least!)
L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse.
I finished my workout, came home, showered, and sprayed this lovely scent on.
I love this one too, so beautiful.
Tuesday!
1) Went out to Revolution Hall to watch the US Presidential debate, and then talked and drank far too much into the night.
2) Woke up late as a result. Ugh. Thank goodness for big glasses of water and electrolyte mix.
3) SOTD: A combo of Body Shop Satsuma body spray to wake up, and then layered with Coromandel. I smell good and confident, if not fully sober.
4) More coffee, please.
1) this was me last Friday night with the debate inside my head
2) sake markes me oversleep
4) me at 2pm
ok, so I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this besides me, and it probably doesn’t mean much, because I have yet to do a side by side comparison. BUT when I smelled the EDP Exclusifs this weekend I thought several were quite different than how I remembered the EDTs. I was struck by Bois de Iles and Cuir de Russie the most, I was stunned when I sprayed them. I got samples too so I’m excited to compare the different concentrations.
Anyway,
I’m wearing Fire Island today-inspired by the wind. I asked the Bond SA for some samples after hearing good things from fellow NSTers.
“There is something uneasy in the Los Angeles air this afternoon, some unnatural stillness, some tension. What it means is that tonight a Santa Ana will begin to blow, a hot wind from the northeast whining down through the Cajon and San
Gorgonio Passes, blowing up sand storms out along Route 66, drying the hills and the nerves to flash point. For a few days now we will see smoke back in the canyons, and hear sirens in the night. I have neither heard nor read that a Santa Ana is due, but I know it, and almost everyone I have seen today knows it too. We
know it because we feel it. The baby frets. The maid sulks. I rekindle a waning argument with the telephone company, then cut my losses and lie down, given over to whatever it is in the air. To live with the Santa Ana is to accept, consciously or unconsciously, a deeply mechanistic view of human behavior.”-Joan Didion
I am looking forward to your analysis on EDP vs. EDT. I broke down and bought a couple of EDTs before EDPs were available, so of course curious now if that was a right choice.
Yes, I’m very interested in your thoughts, too, especially regarding sillage and longevity.
Ah the great fear! Of course in some instances different might be ok or even better, but I don’t want anyone messing with Misia.
Agreed. I have a strong emotional attachment to Misia, but my other 2 favorites are Coromandel and Beige and I’m actually quite curious about the EDP versions of those. They’re 2 I can imagine being even better as EDPs (I hope! Because I’m certainly not going to buy 2 more EDTs before it’s too late.)
That’s what I would expect, which is why I bought a bottle of Misia this weekend.
According to the SA who helped me at my local Nordstrom, they are “transitioning” the EDTs out, and bringing the EDPs in. They have the EDPs in stock but they’re not available yet. I couldn’t get a hard date out of her.
I didn’t realize until I read someone’s comment from a thread a few weeks back that the EDTs aren’t going to be available once the “transition” happens. I don’t understand why they’re doing it this way.
Surely in the era of perfume mega-launches the buying public can wrap their heads around having 2 different concentrations/versions of Les Exclusifs available?
Chanel likes uniformity. Same bottle, slap on a different label and voila, a different perfume!
I would love to experience the Santa Ana winds. All I ever get is the 3 H’s: Hazy, Hot & Humid.
Love Didion.
Let us know what you think of the EDPs vs. the EDTs please. I think I read Nordstrom at South Coast finished their Beauty dept and they have the Exclusifs now right?
I think you mentioned Rose Barbare a while back and I said I would send you some but then promptly forgot 😉 …let me know you still would like some and I will unearth the decant I have misplaced.
oh no worries, I got a bottle of Rose Barbare so no need. Yes! Nordstrom now has mini-boutiques including Frederic Malle (although so far there is no one even working the FM counter…which is a great shame, and they don’t have all the fragrances either as far as I could tell), Le Labo, the Exclusifs…it is so nice! AND what’s interesting is that since it’s a Nordstrom and they are generous with samples, they bought a bunch of samples from Le Labo so that you don’t have to pay for them! Which I thought was really awesome. They aren’t as big as the ones for purchase, but if you’re just looking to try it on your skin a couple of times it is perfect, and I think great that you don’t have to pay. Also, as far as the Chanel goes, It is exponentially better than trying to play with the Exclusifs in the Chanel boutique that are all crammed and hidden away in a corner closet. Also, the customer service at Nordstrom is infinitely better. They also trained the staff working the Chanel counter on the exclusifs, and they seem to know much more than any of the sales associates at the boutiques.
This is excellent news! Looking forward to seeing the new revamped SCP Nordstrom. As for the edp’s, the most negative comments I have read are about 31 Rue Cambon and Sycomore. Coromandel seems to be unscathed.
the restaurant has been open now for a while too. 🙂
I smelled the new Coromandel and it was a tad bit sharper but it could be because it is new! I smelled a few of the other ones and on paper, they smelled the same to me.
Agreed. The revamped Nordstrom sounds wonderful.
Thank heavens for air conditioning. I’ve run the AC at home more today and yesterday than I did all summer.
Something uneasy in the air — the perfect words for the way the Santa Ana winds make me feel like I’m “resigned to my fate” in a mildly melodramatic way.
It’s a bit like the feeling I had settling in for a blizzard when I lived in a cold winter climate — we’re all in this together, and the only way out is through.
Love Didion too… My husband idolizes her. Here’s another Santa Ana quote… Raymond Chandler
There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands’ necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.”
Love this.
Have a head cold, but still ticking in Shalimar edc. I think I smell good ?
I think you do, too 🙂
SOTD = SSS Pacific Forest
LOVE! Resinous, piney, earthy-green incense with tendrils of vanilla. What’s not to love? A 17 mL is in my future. I recently found an unopened envelope from Sonoma Scent Studio and out popped a travel spray of Pacific Forest which I had ordered back at the beginning of the year so I have two 5 mL travel sprays to tide me over until Laurie’s shop reopens. Laurie is very accommodating if you are truly desperate to order something while the shop is closed.
I don’t recall posting this — thanks to all the enablers especially ElisaP, I have a partial bottle of Stephane Humbert Lucas Taklamakan. OMG and enough said.
In other news, Sniffapalooza just added a light breakfast and presentation to the Saturday itinerary! Now, it’s more conducive to attending because why pay for the privilege to shop at Bergdorfs if I can do that at any time on my own?
Nice!! Enjoy Taklamakan – it is such an awesome fragrance. I cannot wait when we are back into 70’s or colder to wear it.
Oh yes, so glad fall is here with early fall temps!
???? I ODed on it on Sunday eve. I was priming the new atomizer and a bunch leaked from under the spritzer. It does smell GOOD though.
Haha! As much as the bottle is gorgeous, the atomizer thingie tends to leak while decanting. I used to make samples of Khol de Bahrein but stopped when I realized that for every drop that landed in the sample vial/atomizer, 2 drops would leak out onto my fingers.
Really looking forward to trying Taklamakan, it sounds fab.
It is fab. I am hoping Grand Soir arrives today as that is haunting me!
Woke up late today about 10:00 a.m. My hubby gave breakfast to kids and sent them to school so I could have some rest.
SOTD- Marni Marni. I forgot how wonderful it is, my favourite rose so far 🙂
That was nice. I really like your pen name – I am Russian, so I know what it means 🙂 Very cute.
Hi Clarissa!
It is very nice to meet another Russian perfumista!
My uncle, whom I loved a lot, passed away several years ago. He was very kind and intelligent guy with a great sense of humor. He often qouted from “Malish i Karlson” cartoon :” Otdai plyushku! Muchnaya plyushka portit figuru!”
P.S. I sent you an e-mail regarding Iris Nazarene split. Did you receive it?
Yep, I did, I thought I responded while I was walking up the hill with my son sweating – but looks like I am not as good of a multitasker as I think I am
Retested Kohl de Bahrein last night and I love it. A lot. D600 today to try and convince myself I have plenty of off-beat irises.
Not to pour gasoline into fire, but I personally find Kohl de Bahrein the best iris.
And it’s distinctive; unlike any other I know. Shoot.
Did anyone say the best iris? Need to update my to sample list! 🙂
I will send you a sample when I ship out your Iris Nazarene
I love KdB, but ever since someone said it smelled like Silly Putty, I can’t get the association out of my head, although Silly Putty smelled pretty good. It’s one if the few perfumes my husband likes.
I remember this discussion! We were walking to the taco place after our Osswald sniffathon! It does have a slight lipsticky smell to it which is what Silly Putty smelled like to me! Of course it smelled even better mixed with newspaper ink after I stamped it across the colorful Sunday comics.
Wearing Lollia Relax because I was thinking honey since new guy and I will be tasting raw honeys later at a honey store but now I’m wondering if that’s overkill. I’ll figure it out in a few hours…
Wow, a honey store tasting sounds great. I love honey.
Yea sound awesome, please report back. The new guys sounds like fun.
Yesterday I wore petit rien, which was delightful as ever, but not quite the autumn incense I was craving.
I wish I still had a sample of Wazamba. Hmm. Suggestions?
Since I don’t have that many “old” fragrances (though I do have a lot of thrift finds from the 90s :-p ) hopefully this will be a week of sample clean ups and neglected decants etc.
After a sample so disagreeable I had to scrub 3x, I went on to my sample of Lonestar Memories, which I have liked in the past, but perhaps there is still phantom cinnamon from its predecessor? It just isn’t hitting the spot the way I’d like…
What was the offender?
Autumn by Dasein. A sample I got in a lovely swap, and it might be the peculiarities of my skin (or nose!) as there are a couple of aroma-chemicals that really aggravate me, but don’t seem to bother my perfume pals. I wonder if it’s going to be like djeidi, which made me nuts, but then delighted another pal from NST…
Not djeidi? Djhenne.
Ah. I just tried that one. Smelled like a seasonal candle to me.
Not just you. Autumn was awful on me.
Sometimes, for good or bad, there are DAYS (I’d put that in red, if I could) and sometimes there are just days, and then there are days so mere that (again, if I could) I’d write the word in size six font. I’m on a roller-coaster of days at the moment, and I want a highly responsive perfume, one that swells up to meet an on-coming DAY or goes all quiet and still to accommodate a size-six-font day. Or maybe that should be the other way around. Anyway, I haven’t got one that does just exactly that, so I’m pootling off into a day that’s just a day wearing By Kilian A Taste of Heaven. I quite like its bitter-sweet contrasts in this changeable weather.
This.
Stash by SJP. My lovely boyfriend bought mine a bottle and I’ve been wearing it a lot. You know what it reminds me of? Voyage d’Hermes, with perhaps a richer base. Love it (and love the price!)
It’s really good, isn’t it?
Definitely a cheapish thrill. I wish I had gotten the big bottle.
It reminded me of Orange Sanguine. I rolled it at least a dozen times on my wrists but couldn’t smell it until about 10 minutes later, which makes me wonder if I’m anosmic to some of the musks. My husband thought it smelled like citronella, though, so maybe that’s not what was going on.
I think it is a bit too weak for a rollerball. I only get a few hours from a good spritz. I get coconut, dill, and incense. Sounds weird but I could imagine someone being monogamous with out.
I had the same thought initially but it blasted away for hours and hours once the spices and orange showed up. But that’s about all I got from it (orange and spices.)
I love that tea set and I don’t even drink tea. I would leave it on a table and just admire it…if it cost about $200 less.
Sampling Lonesome Rider this morning for the second time. I was not too impressed the first go-round, but this morning in cool, cloudy weather I keep pulling my turtleneck over my nose to smell it.
Nice! It seemed like an odd time to launch that one (late spring, iirc) so I haven’t worn mine yet but I keep thinking about it.
Have been doing testing of recent launches – Chanel Boy, SJP Stash, Angel Muse, and today, TF Orchid Soleil. Don’t need any of them! *relief*
We vacated our apartment on August 23 so they could do some construction that was supposed to take 2-4 weeks. We are moving back in tonight.
I’ll finally be reunited with my full collection and had considered doing a week of *Still Ticking* fragrances, but I think I’ll probably end up wearing perfumes I’ve missed over the last 5 weeks.
I tried those scents recently, too, but not Boy. I’m glad I don’t want to buy any of them (yet). I’m planning a Chanel sniffing excursion next week and will smell Boy then.
Heh, will smell Boy. Made myself smirk. 😉
Finding it very hard to do a ( clean, white)musk week. I realise I don’t really go for up-front musks (Dame perfumes an exception…Dark Horse, New Musk )and a musk dry down seems neither here nor there….like the addition of an after dinner mint after a three course meal. Wearing musk has given me a longing for something earthier, fuller, bolder, dirtier…so today I’m in MitSUoKo …which contains all the letters of musk. But will call in at the shops to sniff out the Narcisco.
Have you tried Musc Nomade (Goutal) or Musc Intense (Nicolaï)? They are cleanish musks but still interesting.
+1 on Musc Nomade, great stuff.
Yes to this!
Thanks for that…I can’t try them but might blind buy…but maybe L’air de rien is a better blind buy???. Also, Serge Lutens Clair de Musc? Any good? Anyway, I’ve written them down in my black book so thank you!
I’ve never tried L’Air de Rien so cannot comment as to that. However, if you let me know how I could reach you, I’d be more than happy to send you some samples of the Goutal and the Nicolaï.
L’Air de Rien is good stuff, Clair de Musc I find okay but a bit dull.
I seem to have increasing trouble with what seems to be described as white musk. They can seem very harsh to me.
Oh, me too with the harsh white musk, it overwhelms my nose. Today I hoped a sample of Guerlain Pera Granita would be lovely, but nope, it has white musk and so it smells like fabric softener sheets for the clothes dryer. Boo.
Yes, I keep getting flashbacks to Body Shop White Musk. Fun though.
Be sure to try the edp and edt of Narcisco. Slightly different but both are fantastic!
Will do! Thanks so much
Another 100 degree day, another trip to the county courthouse, another generous spritzing with Etro Shaal Nur. I’m fairly sure I’ll be disqualified from this jury, though, whi h means today will be my last day.
Well they certainly can’t disqualify you for your fragrance!
SOTD is Knowing (1988). Much better now that I’m not gassing myself (or anyone else) with it.
Old school LOVE for Knowing. Just the other day I was wondering how to determine older bottles on eBay. The bottle style hasn’t changed so it’s impossible to tell!
Testing Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon today. So far, on me it’s lots of oak and not much vanilla or tuberose.
I want to sniff Nirvana Bourbon again. I spritzed some on myself and on paper at Sephora. I liked it spritzed right out of the bottle, and then was impressed how nice the paper smelled for days and days. I love the vanilla. I need to be brave and try more scents with “boozy” names. 🙂
Bois d’Iris from VC&A. I love this stuff.
Having trouble with getting goood help with my horses.
Real first world problem, I know. So
I am heading home early to give my old pony her midday feed since my current helper can’t be depended upon to show up.
Oh well, some problems are more fun to have than others…it’s a lovely day and I am not sitting in front of that computer screen. Woo hoo!
Another day of Myrrhe et Délires for me. It’s very sweet, but manages not to veer into the too sweet and I love it.
You smell lovely! Just hunted down a bottle of this gorgeous stuff! So happy I did. As my decant ran low, I panicked when I heard it was discontinued.
Chiming in late today, its been one of those, but Lumiere Blanche carried me thorough it beautifully. Now off to bed!
Happily in M7 again. My sample won’t last long at this rate. It’s doing wonders to lighten the blah weather outside.
You smell great.
Thank you!
Been wanting to try this for so long. Your posts have renewed my quest!
JM Pomegranate Noir… Not liking it too much, smells like musty fruit.
Well, money saved then! ????
Spent the day in Santal Majuscule. I thought my sprayer wasnt working, and ended up putting way too much on. So I didnt enjoy that as much as I wanted to.
I’ve got Angelique sous la pluie on this evening, after a shower!
Love SM! It’s got tenacious longevity on me! I really really like Malle’s Angelique too.
