It's Hump Day! And if you've got any free time in your schedule, you'll be happy to know that it's also Thrift Shop Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm testing Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pure. It is not my thing. The pleated tote bags, on the other hand...those, I think I could learn to live with.
Reminder: 8/19 will be Perfect Friday — wear a fragrance that is nearly perfect, and tell us how you would change it (or, layer it!) to make it completely perfect.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I can use a outing to a thrift store, anyone know of any good ones in NYC?
Inspired by Ihaveanidea I broke out my rituals shower foam
I am in Fragonard Fluer’oranger intense.
Playing some Shakira for the little ones, even had time to do my make up this morning. That is an amazing start to Wednesday
I like the Housing Works thrift store on 76 or 77th, can’t remember the street now.
Your amazing Wednesday sounds absolutely lovely! My favorite NYC vintage stores are Stella Dallas and Shareen Vintage- both lean heavily towards 50’s style dresses.
Where are those and what are their prices like?
Stella Dallas is somewhere between the West Village and Soho, Shareen is 17th and 5th, I think. Both are on the pricier side for vintage (say, $75 for a dress), but the ratio of good finds has been very high!
I’ve scored at Housing Works on W10th.. plus, many fun places to shop and eat down there.
Since I inspired it, now I’ll have to get some shower foam for myself!
Re: thrift stores in New York – ditto Housing Works in most places, though you’re likely to find the best stuff on the Upper East Side (as Elisa P’s recommendation suggests). Also, though I had to cut myself off of thrifting a few years back (New York apartments are too small), I used to like to wander down 23rd Street stopping at each of the thrift shops there, highlighted in this article (now out of date): http://www.villagevoice.com/blogs/23rd-street-has-become-thrift-shop-row-6382078 . I remember City Opera Thrift being particularly nice.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I bought Fragonard Santal at a thrift store! Alas, doesn’t work on me so it’s my current room spray.
After performing in a community musical evening in the park and waking to absolutely torrential rain, I decided on a mellow skin scent.
CB I Hate Perfume In The Library. I smell like leather chairs, books, furniture polish, and antique rugs. Wonderful
I wish my IRL library smelled like that. More like Cheetos, body odor, dust, and industrial cleaning products.
My IRL library is my perfume room and practice room, so it smells like perfume, clarinet cork grease, puppy fur and dust.
CBIHP’s version is nicer.
Datura Noir. A creamy almond and coconut blend with added white flowers. Quite nice, but there is something synthetic smelling in this fragrance. I like some parts of it and dislike other parts.
On the other hand, I quite enjoy the scent of my hair treatment. I washed if off three hours ago, but its herbal heady aroma is still quite noticeable. And it compliments Datura Noir quite well. (For those who might be curious: the name of the hair treatment is Nubian Heritage Indian Hemp & Tamanu Deep Treatment Masque.)
I really like Datura Noir but I’d like it even more if it was cheaper.
I’ll vote for that.
I like that brand quite a bit! The body washes are also very nice, good on the skin and smell lovely. Plus very affordable!
I LOVE Nubian Heritage products! My favourite is the Chai Body cream but they all smell lovely…
Love that one. Also the frankincense and myrrh lotion too.
And the frankincense and myrrh soap is to die for too! I am saving a bar for when the weather gets cooler.
I am also currently using the EVOO & Moringa moisturizing hair shampoo which is really lovely…
Nubian Heritage does make some great products!
That chai one does smell really good. I have and enjoy the honey one. Great for layering.
Oh, if other Nubian Heritage smell good too, I definitely need to try more of this brand.
Definitely do and I am going to recommend Vitacost where they usually show up discounted 🙂
Oud Wood (Tom Ford). Yum. 🙂
Yep, you smell great!
Agreed!
Helmut Lang Cuiron. It’s not perfect but it’s nice.
Me too! A good summer-weight leather, and one more step on my personal quest of using up my littlest decants.
Ready for date 3, NST? 😉
We’re going (indoor) rock climbing tomorrow, so it has to be something that can stand up to a little physical activity! Something that says “My idea of athleticism is definitely not leisurely Pokemon-catching strolls,” or “My decanting finger is absolutely not the strongest muscle in my body.”
Oh, what did you end up wearing for date #2??
MFK Baccarat Rouge 540! And the scent of failed grilling. :/
Oh yay!!
I would vote for any citrus chypre.
My first thought was Eau Sauvage!
That was my first thought as well, but it doesn’t last very long on me.
Ditto on Robin’s suggestion of a citrus chypre (maybe Azemour if you have?) and woohooo on the date!
Seconded. Azemour or Ô de Lancôme would be nice. You could also go with something like Un Jardin sur le Nil, In Love Again, or something from Atelier for something fresh and citrusy.
This is very exciting to hear. I don’t have a scent recommendation, because I’m allergic to anything athletic. I would think, though, that something citrus would work well.
Some nice vetiver maybe? Vetiver Extraordinaire?
What immediately comes to mind is Aliage, Cristalle, SSS Forest Walk or SSS Pacific Walk….
I’m a bit of a novice at this, but maybe Eau de Merveilles to go with salty skin?
Anyway have a great 3 date?
That should be date! Not date?
For some reason I want to recommend a vetiver.
I did too, maybe because it has a grounding effect with all these high altitude activities!
Knot! Very handy for rock climbing.
😉
Ylang 49 – as a bonus it smells even better as you warm up and start to sweat. 🙂
Dior Homme Cologne (new version)
Have fun ????
Manoumalia, otherworldly and beautiful.
Tea is Laos Wild Phongsali.
We need a new fragrance from Les Nez!
If it’s as good as Manoumalia, we definitely do.
Agree — hope they are not done.
Long day of interviews and meetings ahead of me. No. 19 is providing ample fortification.
You smell elegant, and it will be a good day!
You smell like you can take on the world. Do it!
Great choice ☺
Get it girl. You smell great.
I wore NO 19 a few days back..I forget how wonderful this scent is..
You smell amazing!
Rock that No. 19, girl!
Woke up too early; it seems it is already the end of August. Decided on Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore in trying to stop the negative thinking, and it is already working–yay for Neroli Dore!
Yay, maybe I’ll wear that after I wash off the Issey Pure stuff.
Good to know it has those powers! We could all use some of that once in a while.
There’s a recomendation! I will have to find this. Is it at Sephora or do I need to go further afield?
I am pretty sure that the brick and mortar Sephoras carry it now…at least mine does….
Sorry for the double answer; it seems I was typing while you already responded to the meredifay’s question.
I think it is everywhere at this point, and I bet they’ll gladly give you samples as everybody else seems to be asking only for the rhubarb (but they are so wrong!!).
That sounds good, must try this soon!
Tauer Sotto la Luna Gardenia in honor of the full moon, which is tomorrow and not today, as I thought. Might have a repeat performance tomorrow, which isn’t a bad thing since I really enjoy this one.
Good idea! Maybe I’ll spray some Sotto la Luna Tuberose later on (I just got two more samples of it to make sure that I don’t need a FB, but it is such a good scent …)
He threw in a sample of that one when I ordered from him last, but I haven’t really given it any skin time yet.
So, maybe tomorrow would be the perfect time to try it?
This was my favourite scent until I tried Vetiver Dan. The Gardenia doesn’t seem to get a lot of love, but I adore it so much I am scared to try the Tuberose….
*Vetiver Dance*
Vetiver Dance is very nice!
I haven’t tried the vetiver since I’m iffy about that note. Next time I’m at Twisted Lily I’ll give it a try. And maybe Fat Electrician’s name is Vetiver Dan ????????
I an iffy on Vetiver too, but the Tauer version has a lovely vanilla note that takes any possibility of screechiness out of it.
Wearing Pichola and smelling very pretty.
Twins!
Oh, how lovely!
The AC at work is fixed. Yay! Wearing vintage White Shoulders, a summer fave
Yay indeed! There really should be some kind of national holiday in honor of the man who invented air conditioning.
And the one who figured out how to put it in a car!
I was familiar with this as a teenager; as an adult I’m not much of a white florals fan. But I find the idea of this fragrance in an office setting intriguing. 🙂
Old old old school love for White Shoulders- like junior high..????
I awoke in the remnants of l’Air de Rien and decided to just top it off. It’s actually a little much in this humidity, but we are refinishing one of the china hutches while the cats are at Mom’s and the entire house smells like mineral spirits and Citristrip. We had to bring the furniture inside to dry in the a/c so I needed a perfume to act as a cozy force field. I wish it would also blind me to the disorder in my living room. I have a lot more vintage kitchenware than I remembered. It looks like I ransacked a small-town church potluck.
*Raided. My living room appears to have been ransacked and I would have raided a potluck. Took a second cup of coffee to catch that.
I’m celebrating thrift store day by making my house resemble a junk shop.
I looove wearing L’air de Rien to bed – so satisfying. Even the remnants are good!
Hope that the refinishing is done soon and your house can be returned to order.
But it’s so worth it when a project is done!
Oh, yes. The old finish was sticky and showed fingerprints and paw prints so it really needed to be done. Great aunt Bernie was really hard on things, but that furniture has seen more great cocktail parties than I can imagine. I’m kind of sad to remove the embedded glitter and other signs of family history (not so much the petrified Chex Mix).
Love the embedded glitter!
I am wearing Timbuktu thanks to Mrs. Dollaway, who yesterday reminded me that I had not reached for it for a while. A very nice incense vetiver fragrance that fits my incense craving on another hot day. It is very fresh, bright, crispy and comforting.
I never think about incense in summer, but your description reminds me that I have a mini of Timbuktu and how much I like it. Maybe tomorrow.
For the past three days I have been wearing incense fragrances. For me it is a different way to face now the extreme hot weather, after wearing so many citruses, fresh, clean, light scents. I feel calmer and more relaxed.
I really like Timbuktu in the summer! And in all other weather.
Glad it’s doing the job! You smell great.
SOTD is Feminite du Bois which would be perfect if it was the Shisheido version but I’ll have to make do with Serge, which is fleeting and possibly more heavy on ISO super?
Twins! SL FdB lasts all day on me.
Hello twin! Maybe I’m somewhat anosmic for ISO? My skin is usually tenacious where fragrance is concerned. How perfect is FdB for you?
It’s one of my favorites. Too much ISO gives me the ick-in-the-back-of-the-throat feeling, and I don’t get that with FdB, so it’s not present in an amount that’s over my personal threshold, anyway.
I have tried the Shiseido version of FdB thanks to a kind NST-er. Have to say I prefer the SL version (ducks the eggs being thrown my way 🙂 )
No duck eggs from this side of the Atlantic! Stand by Serge 😉
I went with MAC MV5 today. A light but fresh green.
I’m in Voile de Violette by SSS. Love how potent this one is and it’s helping me get through the day. We had crazy thunderstorms last night that woke me up so I’m feeling a bit sluggish.
I’m amazed I remembered my fitbit this morning. I charge it on the husband’s night stand because he’s got a USB charging port on it and charges his on there.
Love what Laurie does with violets…whoever was asking yesterday about rainy day scents Laurie Erickson of SSS has several that would apply in my book….
I can’t get over how strong of a scent it is. It literally lasts all day and is quite the powerhouse on me. I’ve only tried this and Forest Walk by SSS but both are great so I’m sure there are plenty of other greats in Laurie’s line.
They are all parfum strength and heavy on woody base materials that last forever!
No wonder they last so well. It’s rather amazing that they are so strong and very affordably priced as well.
I am seconding what Elisa said…the are perfume strength and last very long…I also love Jour Ensoleille and Winter Woods as well as the discontinued Lieu de Reves (now that was a gorgeous violet and heliotrope mix!)
I remember hearing lots of praise for Winter Woods. Can never have enough good woody scents.
That was me who asked about rainy day scents. Thanks to everyone who gave their suggestions! I haven’t tried anything from SSS, so I will get on that.
The Serge is very pale and disappointing . I miss the Shisheido version a lot.
I’m in Aftelier Fig. I’m packing to go to Croatia on Sunday and haven’t decided what perfume to take. I like to take just one to a holiday, and then it brings back memories when I smell it again. On the shortlist so far we have Ashoka, Weekend a Deauville, Sous le Vent and Ubar. And Maharanih. Decisions are heard.
I wouldn’t stress about it to much-you will enjoy the natural smells of Croatia I am sure
Oh I’m looking forward to it! I heard there was a fig tree growing in the hotel yard.
I’m a Weekend (Deauville or Normandy depending on the vintage of your bottle) flip-flopper. Every time I think I am going to pass it along to another perfume person, I decide I like it again. Would love your thoughts!
Weekend has a secure place in my collection, although I haven’t worn it a lot this summer because no summer here. But it reminds me of Deauville (honeymoon) and North European beaches.
Even though I am sitting in vintage Bal, I still haven’t taken a shower yet. I have a doctor’s appointment today and I am trying to figure out what I should wear to this doctor’s appointment. I obviously can’t wear anything overly slutty or anything loud, otherwise I will make those who are already sick, sicker. Jicky is on the list, so it Chanel no 19. I’m not feeling Infusion d’Iris today.
Good luck, no 19 is a panacea all by itself.
Hope you are doing well.
So after seven weeks straight of citrus and tea in Assam of India and after all that chatter yesterday about Ava Luxe perfumes (and thank you, naughty hajusuuri, for reminding me that today is half St Patrick’s day to justify buying those Ava Luxe samples I am obsessing over) I really needed something sweet….started the shower with Brown Sugar and Fig body wash, followed by a body lotion I made with Alba Botanicals unscented lotion enhanced with bitter almond e.o. , frankincense e.o. and Inland Fog China Musk)…..the perfume du jour was on a base of Inland Fog Egyptian Musk oil a spray of Pacifica’s discontinued Mexican Cocoa followed by Dame Perfumery’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla….I am beyond sweet!
You smell like your username! 🙂
LOL! You are right! I wanted my user name to be “Marzipan” initially but it was already taken so I added the chocolate as it reminded me of one of my favorite childhood treats…chocolate covered marzipan….
btw, at a farm stand today the woman ringing me up wanted to know what I was wearing as she said I smelled great…did not even know what to tell her because I am overloaded on so many scents!
Ok so I just sprayed my feet and behind my knees with Assam of India…
Half St. Patrick’s Day is in September, but hey, you can get a Full Bottle of your favorite to mark the occasion 🙂
Bvlgari au The Rouge for today.
I’m having lunch with my daughter today. It’s been a Wednesday thing for us during the summer. Usually it’s sushi or pizza. She starts school tomorrow.
My son starts school tomorrow, too. His first day in 6th grade. . . I’m not sure where my baby boy went, but the young man that’s replacing him is turning out pretty well :-).
Enjoy time with your daughter! My boys went back last Friday, and my daughter heads off to college tomorrow. (She has to go early to do RA training, which is excellent when we get her tuition bill 🙂 but not so excellent when I wanted another week with her at home 🙁 .)
Today I’m wearing Au The Rouge. The funny thing is I bought a bottle of this at Ross several years ago, and turned around and exchanged it for Calyx, which I had decided was too expensive. I love the Calyx, but this is very nice.
SOTD is Gucci Guilty today; just got a compliment on it!
Heading to Sephora tomorrow. Besides Nirvana Rose and Bourbon, what should I look out for?
My Sephora just got in Atelier Camelia Intrepide, and Santal Carmine. Both are very nice.
I second that on the Santal Carmine. That was the only perfume I wore in India last Winter and it was so beautiful.
Registered my son for his first year of high school today. Ugh, I’m so nervous. Sotd Gucci by Gucci.
My little toddler is starting a 2’s program next year and I am already crying, and she is not even going for full days or everyday. I can’t imagine high school..my goodness..I will need some tissues for sure.
The two times in my life I have ever seen my father really cry was once when he lost his mom, and the other is when he dropped me off to college. I didn’t understand what the fuss was all about, until I became a parent.
My son’s school used to host a “boo-hoo yahoo!” coffee after drop off on the first day of school. The idea was that the moms of older kids could comfort the kindergarteners’ moms who were dropping off for the first time. I was fine, unless someone asked me how I was, then I’d bawl. . .
What a great idea!
Pre school was nice because ii could drop in whenever i wanted, or volunteer to help out. Once I got to know the teachers, I felt better about leaving them.
He’ll be fine. And so will you!
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I’m in Agonist Liquid Crystal today, one of the two from that line that I truly love (the other being Black Amber). It reminds me of a spiced version of Azemour — greeny orange zest and star anise and woodsy depths, like a dense deciduous forest with little gaps letting in shafts of sunlight that land in the greenygreen undergrowth and make them look lit from within.
That sounds really, really wonderful.
Re-announcement! Koyel and I will be sniffing at Tigerlily in San Francisco this Friday (Aug 19) around 12:30pm. Please join us!
SOTD is Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois, Just Because.
Hello to Koyel, she has not been around here for a while.
I wish I could join you but I will be 2,000 miles away!
Happy Wednesday!
1) Took yesterday off for overdue wellness appointments. Overall health is okay-ish; diet has suffered due to grieving and stress, and I have a cracked back tooth(stress grinding). . Recommendation is rest, beneficial exercise and of course treating my tooth. For a person who is trying to get into a house in 14 days, when am I supposed to do all that?!
2) Warm day, which calls for Grey Vetiver.
3) OOTD: White pants, with a tropical watercolor draped top and black sandals.
Try not to stress..hugs
Thank you, hugs are much appreciated! 🙂
That’s a lot to deal with. Take care of yourself!
Yes, take care of yourself and everything will be all right!
Optimism is much appreciated! Thank you!
You might want to consider a mouth guard for your stress teeth grinding…I used to grind my teeth at night in my sleep so loudly it used to wake my partner up…until my life became less stressful (and I discovered yoga and meditation) I wore a mouth guard which took care of not getting a cracked tooth from all the grinding..
take care of yourself….
I replied to MM below, but I am going to ask the restorative dentist about this when I treat my tooth next Monday.
That’s a lot to contend with. I highly recommend taking care of the tooth. I had a cracked rear molar that I waited on because, life, and it cracked again beyond being root canal-able.
Yes, I was advised to take care of the care of my tooth right away- it does not hurt but it is when it does NOT hurt that when one should take care of the issue. So am doing this on Monday.
Please take the plunge and invest in a professionally-fit hard acrylic night guard after you have your tooth fixed. Clenching and grinding damage supporting bone, crack teeth, and contribute to cavities, making the expensive nightguard worth it in the long run.
Also, sounds like you need a break! Sending virtual hugs and will happily drink a cocktail in your honor this evening (I don’t know if this will actually help, but it’s worth a try).
Thank you for this advice! I am going to just go and get my tooth fixed, and when I show up for the reconstruction work I will ask about this.
Virtual hugs and virtual cocktails are much appreciated!
I also want to recommend a mouth guard – when I was in grad school, I would grind my teeth so badly that I would wake up with dust in my mouth. My mouth guard really saved my teeth until I could deal with the grinding by reducing stress.
Stay well, and be kind to yourself. Taking tiny de-stress breaks (less than 5 minutes) will help, as will cocktails and lovely perfume!
Hey there-
Thank you for your words of support! And yes, I definitely will ask about a mouth guard when getting the restorative services!
Cocktails are key! I have discovered an ice cream shop that does a wonderful sorbet with grapefruit and juniper and it’s tastes like the most perfect gin/juice cocktail, but in ice form. Perfect.
Deep breaths, you’ll be OK. Pull out your index card of perfumes you found worthy of a second sniff and think about which one you’ll get as a house-warming gift!
Deep breaths before the plunge! Thank you, thank you!
And you know, that index card is taped to my bathroom mirror! 🙂
SOTD is Profumi di Pantelleria “Approdo”. This is fresh and quiet, with enough spice to avoid dullness. The aquatic note isn’t cheap or nasty (or especially prominent, to be honest). Lasting power isn’t great, but it’s worth trying if you like fresh breezy scents.
I used to like one of their scents, and darned if I can think of what it was — in fact, can’t remember hearing anyone mention the brand in ages!
Craving Cristalle again. I think my brain is making an unconscious association between lemon oil and germ killing (or thereabouts). Apparently after yardwork I put on powder and lipstick to go out for dinner, then continued to spread the poison ivy over my face and lips till I first broke out. Took a couple more days till I realized I’d contaminated my cosmetics. Quite an introduction to poison ivy at 62!
Re the pic at top, first impression: tote bags. Second impression: ….maillots? Not sure which I’d like better. Contents would distort the design on a tote. A maillot would keep the design stable, but not sure I’d want to wear it. 🙂
Next up: shower and Cristalle.
Wow, I didn’t know that could happen! Hope you recovered quickly.
Oh gosh, I hope you heal soon. Did you have to throw out your cosmetics?
A friend of mine got terrible poison ivy this summer and had to throw out or burn everything she might have come in contact with on the day in question. I hope you had a speedy recovery!
Yikes! Sounds nasty. Hope it clears up soon. My husband is very allergic to poison ivy. He has scarring from bad reactions from decades ago.
Oh no! I truly feel your pain. I’ve gotten poison ivy on my face this summer AND last! Oral steroids, if you can tolerate them, will stop it in its tracks. I recommend steroids if it’s near the eye. Last year I had it around my eye, and on the eyelid???? Prescription steroid cream got me through this year. I feel for you. It’s rough.
Wow!! Hope you are better.
Ouch! Get well soon.
Thanks, guys. I went to urgent care and got a prescription for a “steroid taper” – oral steroids tapering off over 6 days. Cosmetics will be thrown out, after my energy returns and my fingers stop weeping. Just trying.
Ede97005, hang in there! It’s stressful but it will all come together shortly. 🙂
I’m in, I think, the deep dry down of La Panthère. I’m wearing a silk camisole today, and when I put it on I caught a hint of clean, dry patchouli – which the Cartier does eventually turn into. Since La Panthère lasts and lasts and LASTS more than anything else I wear, I assume that’s what I wore last time I put this camisole on. Rather nice, actually.
Ah, and Cartier has at last surrendered – or my nose has, I suppose I’ll never know for sure! So I’m in two sprays and a swipe of Philosykos EDT.
SOTD Heeley Iris de Nuit – my joint favourite with Cuir Pleine Fleur. It’s pretty good in summer too.
I haven’t tried that many Heeleys but I love those 2.
Heeley Cardinal is the one incense I used to love to wear in the summer.
I am pretty sure Cuir Pleine Fleur will be my next FB purchase… my birthday is in October and I have begun planning…. Love that one!
LOVE Cuir Pleine Fleur, and really need to try the Iris de Nuit. You smell wonderful. 🙂
Oriza L Legrand Muguet Fleuri…not as refined as Diorissimo but greenly pretty and much longer lasting on my skin…
L’Heure Exquise. Which is absolutely perfect, I wouldn’t change a bit. So elegant!
You smell gorgeous and elegant!
Absolutely perfect indeed. You smell beautiful.
It is elegant! I think it’s my second favourite fragrance.
What is your favourite? Heure Exquise is my first.
My favourite fragrance is Coromandel. It’s the first fragrance that I sniffed and purchased on the spot.
Ooh, that is my current lemming. I’ve never tried it but plan to have a sniff at Selfridges on Saturday. I think they should have it.
Just waving hello!
Power washing junipers today to get rid of mites and spraying with rubbing alcohol and water to kill the little buggers! Just a little test strip of Grandiflora Madagascar Jasmine Stephanotis which is heavenly and less indolic than other jasmine perfumes. Lovely addition if your a jasmine fiend since it is not like those other sex crazy jasmine perfumes, like Lust and AG Songes…..
Haha, your comment gives new meaning for Sponges = Songes
Well I woke up at 5AM and it was already 80 degrees with high humidity. I think I might freshen up my rudraksha bead necklace with a few sprayed of Trayee today. The perfume goes right into the folds of the beads and lasts for months.
You smell nice!
Thoroughly doused with Eau Premiere today…
Maybe 7 sprays…but I could have lost track… 😉
Narciso EDP! I find this stuff addictive.
Yum, love that one too! It is my favorite bottle aesthetically as well. Not that it matters, but when it is so nice why not?
CSP Coco Figue today, which is sweet, tropical, and quite frivolous. Pretty much how I feel today. Happy Humpday Tp all????
Yes, frivolous is a good word for it!
SOTD = Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist
Another perfect perfume. It would be great if it came in atomizer format. Oh wait, it does, in the Tout something or other. OK, it IS perfect!
I’m shocked that you don’t own the ISM black atomizer! Barneys used to have it, but now it’s on the SL site (described as a purse weapon, lol).
I know! If the purse weapons were available before I got my bell jar, I would have bought them instead. I am using an ice blue atomizer that describes ISM.
Love this one… So elegant and refined.
Agreed!
sotd is hermes 24 faubourg, my favourite and only orange blossom! Most orange blossom centred fragrances seem to smell either aggressively soapy or very baby-product, but 24 is very hermes. it works well in slightly warm weather but I wouldn’t bring it on holiday somewhere truly hot!
without knowing it’s thrift store day I went to a thrift store like half an hour ago! Got a dress 😀
Today I’m in Lys Mediterranee in anticipation of meeting a friend for drinks on the patio. Last time we went to that bar, I found a corner of a plastic bag in my taco. I was chewing on it for awhile thinking it was kale or something! The server was horrified and took the tacos off the bill. Ok, so the food is not great, but the scenery is picturesque, and the service is fine, so I’ll give it another shot.
!!!
Yuk. I once had the fingertip of a blue latex glove in a soup I ordered. Hope you have better luck this time! You’re smelling pretty.
Makes me wonder if there wasn’t a fingertip floating around in another bowl of soup ????
I tried not to have that thought.
Eeek, I would have been so traumatized and probably have thrown up on the spot. The server did the right thing by taking it off the bill. I don’t hesitate to complain about food and service (usually when I know nothing else is coming that could be revenge-enhanced). I always do it politely unless the person I am speaking to behaves badly, in which case I get my Jersey up and woe is the other person.
In Au The Bleu today. Its lovely for the muggy weather we’ve been having.
It’s also Black Cat Appreciation Day. They’re always the last cats/kittens out of the shelter, so please, appreciate them more!
SOTD = PdN Eau d’ete.
My aunt only ever had black cats (one at a time) for that reason. They were all named “Midnight.”
I live with a black cat now. She is silly and delightful.
We picked out a black cat for that very reason. He’s a complete sweetie. He has a secret plan for world domination which involves convincing all humans to be his willing slaves. (It’s working on us, anyway.)
Ah yes. Dogs have owners, cats have staff.
I cat-sit rather than actually having a cat, so I hope to avoid the slave status.
I have no problem appreciating black cats and would adopt one in a heartbeat if I hadn’t been blessed by providence with the current crew. In fact, this is the first time in decades that I’ve been without a black cat.
You guys are the best!
There are a pair at my local Petland store up for adoption. Kittens. If I didn’t have 2 already, or, rather, a husband who doesn’t want more than our 2, they’d come home with me. They are so sweet!
I have a black(ish) cat I found when she was a kitten in Texas. She didn’t stay a street kitty for long.
She is protesting instead of celebrating today as a neighbour’s cat is staying over while his apartment is being fumigated. Though they are relegated to opposite ends of the apartment, they are both crying loudly at intervals.
Black cats = the BEST cats!
Happy over-the-hump Wednesday to everyone.
I decided to dump my little vial of Oeillet Sauvage on my arm. Very, very nice five minutes in, but I already know how this one ends. Pffffft! and gone, baby, gone. I really don’t mind. 🙂
Hello, good morning, all. I’ve not been posting for a few days –talk about stating the obvious!– because I’m all in my head with a couple of big projects and just don’t seem to have anything left over. But, I’m writing today to reinforce warnings against blind buys. See, my wondeful team member went to Scent Bar for me, and yes, I am now the owner of Maharanih. I love it; I loved it from first encounter. But I also bought samples of perfumes I’d become interested in, and oh my! did I ever thereby avoid some costly mistakes! So. Alahiiiiiiine: smells like a scented fly spray on me, and catches in my throat. Profumo Vero Mito: heart-stoppingly beautiful, but so fleeting it’s impossible for me to learn. Too expensive to behave like this….and so on. I would buy Salome, but the dear man wandered into the bedroom, sniffed, asked me I’d been eating Smokers (a nasty little pink lolly flavoured with musk), then suddenly focused on me and said, ” Are you so stressed you’ve taken up smoking?”” Ugggghhhhh. As if! Have never ever smoked; never would; hate it with a passion. I closed down my laptop, showered., and am now looking for a kind home for my sample. Sigh. Summation: disappointing choices, but a useful experience.
Be well, everyone. For the next couple of months, I won’t emerge from my projects much, and I’ll be cranky and crabby, probably. Feel free to snarl back.
Good morning! I am wearing Black Cashmere so all is well in the world down here.
I’m glad about both things. I’m in the office, a hat and a bad mood…I’m wondering if coffee will help, but in my heart, I know that the only cure is to Get The Work Done. And so, here I go…
Or, you can keep wearing Salomé, but applied so lightly that eventually it’s just pervasive and he loves it.
(I love Salomé and I’m single, so I don’t quite appreciate compromises like I ought.)
Sorry you had bad sample luck this time!
So glad that Maharanih worked out for you.
It’s truly lovely. Sensuous but not aggressively, and somehow heart-warming. It’s was another Black Cashmere moment for me when I smelt it. In fact, it was like meeting the dear man for the fist time. I saw him, and thought, “OK then, there’s my life.” Well, that and a few other things I won’t trouble you with. BC, Ambre Narguile, Maharanih, Richard–all instant loves, but deep.
I must start writing. the first sentence is the hardest, right?
Yes, once you get started it will overcome the resistance. Love your story about meeting your husband. 🙂
I make my living working on one big project after another. It’s a very good way to get in touch with your cranky and crabby side, I find. So snarl away, we’ll all growl back supportively. :^)
[An aside: If you are genuinely doing big ‘projects’ (people use the word to mean different things), it might actually be better to start with a 1-pager vision (what better world are you building with this) or ‘business case’ (why is this a good investment of your time and skill, what’s the gain and what will it take to deliver it) or PBS (list of deliverables broken down into a tree structure) than to dive straight into chapter 1, page 1, line 1. I’m using all these terms very loosely but with no knowledge whatever of the problem you’re trying to solve, so feel free to ignore.]
Good luck buckling down!
In Baiser Vole. Nuf said!
Oh, that one is really nice!
SOTD is Diorissimo (current formulation). I’m enjoying getting whiffs of it when my congestion sporadically clears for a few moments. …Oh, that explains it: turns out there’s a local pollen alert. Hump Day, indeed.
I bope rhe allergies go away when you go on your mini trip 🙂
Thanks! They should be vastly improved after tomorrow…
I wore Eau de Merveilles this morning but it’s long gone. Nice while it lasted though. I’ve now refreshed with a spritz of Box of Eels… so good.
Home now after a couple of days at the coast, and to extend the salt-air vibe I’m in Eau Claire des Merveilles layered over Eau des Merveilles – so good!
Wearing a substantial dose of Copal Azur and enjoying it very much.
Late afternoon paw through the cabinet to find a small decant/sample my sister gave me of Yosh Ginger Ciao. I like…but since I have a full bottle of Terracotta, I don’t need it. Very similar.
Waited around for my bldg folks to do work on the heating/AC unit…they’re going through the building to do maintenance. Unfortunately, no one showed up. Sigh. I don’t have to be here, but I prefer to…mostly to ensure one of the cats doesn’t try to escape… It’s not like they can get far, but I’d like to avoid any drama….
Workmen failing to show up is the pits – it always feels like a day lost, to no good purpose.
Today was my first day of teaching for this year (my 11th)! It was so great to have students to meet and old ones to greet after a terrible summer. To celebrate the day I wore Philosykos – I wanted to wear Beige, but it was way too hot for it. When will this disgusting heat end????
Wore Florineige vintage Cuir de Russie, iris and leather cool in the continuing heat.
Third day in a row wearing Beige. Oh, thank goodness I have a long weekend: sleeping in, cruising thrift shops, and maybe parking myself on a patio with a drink, to watch the working stiffs trudge by.
I am just looking at this now as I was too busy at work today to even take a quick peek. I am so tired I don’t even remember what I wore today (clothes or perfume). Hopefully I am over the hump now that Hump Day is almost over. Most likely I will be just as busy the rest of the week.
