Tuesday, and with apologies to those of you who are fond of Tuesdays, today it really does feel like Monday's ugly little sister to me, with the weather to match. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm countering the grey gloom outside with Chanel Bel Respiro. Sometimes I wish it were a little less well-behaved, but then, I have other greens for those days — in the end I'd call it perfect for what it is.
Reminder: 8/19 will be Perfect Friday — wear a fragrance that is nearly perfect, and tell us how you would change it (or, layer it!) to make it completely perfect.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD: Granville (Dior).
Granville is such an oddball but I love it. Would I get a full bottle? Only if they had made smaller bottles. It’s not often that pine is used in perfume.
I got one of those mini splash bottles, and already thinking this will be enough, and the same for Bois d’Argent. Haven’t tried Feve Delicieuse nor La Colle Noire yet but will soon.
Pine?! Might have to search that one out! As a kid, I had this odd habit of picking the needles off of evergreens, squishing and rubbing them in my fingers, and giving it a good, long huff! Will never tire of the scents of needles.
I second that…and did the same…LOVE the scent of pine…if you truly crave it I would suggest that you seek out pine needle essential oil….
Have you tried Olympic Orchids Blackbird? Christmas tree pine and tart blackberries…like a picnic in a forest.
Granville turned to plasticene on me, very odd.
I will need to wear it more, wondering if spraying instead of dabbing will make a difference.
This morning I emptied a sample vial of Mandarine Tout Simplement by L’Artisan Parfumeur all over the backs of my hands and basked in it for all of ten minutes, by which time it had faded to a whisper. By the time I got to work it was completely gone so I’m wearing a spritz of vintage Hermes Bel Ami, so good.
Almost everything I’ve tried from L’Artisan has abysmal lasting power. :^)
Good to know…believe it or not I have little experience with L’artisan in comparison to the rest of you…but reading your comment made me feel less like I am missing out 🙂 !!
I find them mostly wan, with an occasional real winner. I bought Patchouli Patch for my dad, and that one seems to last plenty well for him. I like (and own) Traversee du Bosphore, and I find it lasts all day for me. It isn’t a powerhouse, and it helps if I spray a little on clothing and hair along the way, but I continue to notice it for many hours.
They last pretty well on me. I applied Timbuktu quite generously at 7.30 am and it’s still going at 4.30 pm.
I also find they have, in general, fine to quite good lasting power. Dzing!, Timbuktu, and Safran Troublant all hang around for a while.
thanks to all for suggestions on which L”Artisans have the best lasting power!
I have the new Mandarine and wore it yesterday! It may be that they tweaked it, but on me it easily lasts 3-4 hours which I find to be just fine for a citrus fragrance.
I’m wearing the original Nina by Nina Ricci, which would be perfect if it were still made today.
What is it like? I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it.
You should have a sample of it, if my last batch made it to Brussels safely. It’s a gentle aldehydic floral. I’m not surprised it didn’t sell as it was launched in 1987 so all the other fragrances of that time were big and loud. It was my gateway fragrance in the genre. I think I’ve been wearing it since the nineties.
It was beautiful…I remember…and you smell beautiful!
I’m ok with Tuesdays, just not this Tuesday. In my effort to get to my Tues AM meeting on time, I forgot my phones at home. So, late.
SOTD: Worth Courtesan, another of my neglected decants. I find it inaptly named, as it smells as innocent as a fruit salad with a clean musk dressing. But I like it, anyway.
I love Courtesan! I do get a little bit of skank out of it. You just have to look for it. Will it ever be as slutty as vintage Bal (current formulation sucks)? Nope but it’s good for what it is, Courtesan, I mean.
Still checking, but nothing on the skank register. But glad to see another fan. I don’t see it mentioned much.
I’m wearing No22 Chanel EDT, which has become my most worn perfume this hot and wonderful summer.
Happy Birthday Madonna! We are now both 58! Time flies!
Question: Has anyone had problems with perfume samples going through customs?
I ordered the 5 Auphorie samples from their website. Went from Malaysia to customs in NYC in 2 days. It has been there for the past 12 days.
Is this a typical time frame? Any anecdotes are appreciated!
🙂
I haven’t had an issue with things sitting in customs. It seems like the US postal service does that more to me.
That reminds me, I do have to start dragging out no 22 and wear it more.
You smell great. Agree with Dawn about wearing it more.
No, it took well over a month for mine to show up. I had almost forgotten that I ordered them. What do you think of them?
They’re still in customs in NYC.
Malaysia post and USPS don’t integrate tracking (what a novel concept in 2016!), so I don’t have a clue where they are. 😀
Mine sat in NY for at least 2 weeks. They did come eventually (totally 6.5 weeks turnaround). You’ll get them. Now they stock in the US at Tigerlily and Indigo so that’s where I’ll order from if I decide to spring for a bottle of Eternal Voyage.
Do report back when you try them!
Happy Birthday. You smell great 🙂
Thanks Jenkr ! 😉
Don’t get me started with the US Postal System! Lost three of my packages in the past three weeks all due to misdeliveries…two were found but my decant order from Posh Peasant which was not a small one was delivered to the wrong address and the recipients refused to acknowledge receiving it….and since I did not get insurance (did not know I was supposed to 🙁 ) it will not be replaced…
I am sure they will arrive eventually …and I will be curious as to what you think…I had been eyeballing those samples a while ago!
btw, love no 22 EDT but haven’t wore it in about 20 some odd years….it is in my top 10 of all times!
Sorry about your Posh Peasant package.
Karma will catch up to dishonest people.
I hope!
😉
What i meant to say was “I am sure YOUR samples will arrive eventually”….and yes, I do believe in karma and I was also able to “let it go” knowing that perfume is so ephemeral and eventually I would have drained those decants anyway….
Happy Birthday!
Thanks Oakland Fresca !
😀
And for anyone who missed my posts last Friday and Saturday. The people here make this site great.
😀
Happy Birthday to you, Bear! I’ll be joining you in two days time when I turn 53 ( counting on my fingers to figure out just how old I am…whatever!)Have a happy perfume day and tons of fun all year…and cake.
Thank you Kanuka !
Happy Birthday to you, too!
🙂
I have birthday brownies instead of cake. Though a big slab of Devil’s Food isn’t too shabby at all.
😀
I’m wearing one of my new Demeter colognes, Earl Grey Tea. So far its just a blast of citrus, with no tea.
Boo on it only being citrus. My eyes perked up when I saw this post. I always forget that Demeter does every scent under the sun.
It has developed a little, and now I can smell some tea notes. i will say that for $6.00 for a .5 oz bottle, it is a cheap thrill, as are all of the Demeters. There are surprisingly good scents in the collection. and Demeter has quite a lot of tea scents. Also, they are having a 10% off sale, sitewide right now.
I have the EG Tea also, but I get more of a tea vibe then you pick up.
I have a fair number of their splash bottles, and find the Holy Water, Holy Smoke, Ginger ale and Beeswax to be wonderful ( and long lasting)
You might want to try their Baihao Yinzhen Tea if you want more of the tea….
Reading Lovestosmellgood’s post from yesterday – you poor thing! I hope you’re continuing to rest up and stay out of the heat. I have to say it doesn’t surprise me though – this heat has been brutal. My parents are traveling in Ireland and Scotland right now, and the weather looks perfect there in an almost unfair way – 60s and breezy. Maybe I’ll need to take a trip there next year at this time to avoid this miserable heat.
I’m wearing this Chakra Water “bed and body mist” stuff from Rituals that I picked up on a whim – the lightest, most watery rose possible, because it’s all I can tolerate right now, and it’s actually rather refreshing (on skin and clothes). Got a compliment as I passed by someone yesterday, but I don’t think that would have happened if I hadn’t sprayed my clothes with it. Still, rather nice, especially for $25.
Rituals does have some lovely products that are light but last. I splurged on Pink Petals dish soap. It looks and smells “pink” and improves clean up time.
Chakra Water probably does last on normal, non-scenteating skin, though I couldn’t say for sure, but that’s why I spray it on my clothes so much. I don’t know much about the rest of the product line, but your comment makes me think I should explore more.
Rituals does lovely shower oils and mousses, in case you’re into that sort of thing.
If it relates to either looking or feeling pretty, then yes, it’s safe to say that I’m into it. 🙂
Nice! I’ve had some Rituals shower mousses before and liked those, but not tried the body mists.
I would spray my pillow with it before bed, and that was quite nice, but in my desperation for something cooling in this heat, I started spraying it on myself and that’s been lovely.
What mousses have you liked?
That’s a good idea to spray it on your pillow. I bet that’s relaxing.
I had the Yogi and Sakura shower foams. Both were really nice.
I’d never had a “bed mist” kind of thing before, so I figured why not? It definitely was relaxing. Though you would have to love roses with this one. But I think I might try more of that kind of thing.
I am feeling better thank you! And went to bed really early yesterday so I am rested today. Its hard when you are sick..its not like you can turn to the babies and ask for a sick day..haha
I really like some of the Rituals. Fwiw the UK is currently a little too cold but I do understand the extreme heat in NY is really horrid.
First day working in a new office in Levallois-Perret (think ‘Paris Overspill’). The office is fine; the neighbourhood very quiet as many shops closed for August holidays, which is both delightfully and annoyingly old-fashioned. That is, delightful as a concept, and annoying if I want anything.
SOTD is Carthusia “Corallium”, which is well-behaved, vaguely sweet, and completely unnecessary. It’s a mix of citrus and woods, and if I really concentrate I can smell that, but if I’m thinking of something else and catch a whiff it just smells pastel pink.
Very good to know as I never got to try that one. I think Mediterraneo is the only Carthusia I need to own.
I like Fiori di Capri, but it is the Carthusia I own…
I’m wearing Eau des Sens by Diptyque and really loving it more and more. This was one I initially turned my nose at (pun intended!) and yet, it’s become a great 90+ heat scent in all it’s green, aromatic loveliness. I like how it lasts and lasts, and keeps me smelling fresh despite the yuck of this weather.
I was able to score a 10ml spray bottle of this on ebay. So wish they produced 10ml for all there scents!
😀
I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Vanille d’Iris again, as I have a new bottle and I’m getting acquainted with it. I also have 120ml of the juice, despite asking J to get me 50ml (I could not buy the bottle myself, as I was very busy having a late breakfast and a chat with the wonderful SophieC).
Anyway, it’s a lovely iris and I don’t have anything like it. I especially enjoy the beginning that also has a fruity aspect in addition to the orris and the vanilla. It may sound strange, but I think it works well.
Again, you smell lovely and I hope you thoroughly enjoy your big bottle of it.
I will! Do you have it?
I had a sample of it from the site. I bought 4 samples to try and that was one. I do like it a lot, but it’s not FB worthy to me. It was fun to wear when I had it. There’s another iris/vanilla scent I like better – Dior Homme (edt version only).
Hmmm… I may have to try this one again.
What did you think when you tried it?
My impression was that the vanilla and the iris smelled too distinct from each other within the scent – that they did not mesh well. Plus the combination was odd to me. It was almost like wearing two different perfumes at the same time. However, hearing that you like it enough to buy a full bottl disposes me to give another chance. I respect your opinion, Annicky!
Full disclosure: I don’t think I would have bought a full bottle of this if I had not been in London. But I do believe it’s worth another try, I’ve enjoyed it more with each wear. (And thank you!)
You smell great. A friend brought some back from a trip to London last December. It will move into the cooler weather rotation ( or total chaos will reign).
I loved your photo at the train station.
The weather is cool here, so it works rather nicely. And thank you!
Thank you for describing it, I do have a sample somewhere and will definitely try it now!
I really love this one. I find the iris just gorgeous and then it smoothes right down into a dry vanilla. Gorgeous!
Ooh fun and I really like that one- perfect as the weather turns cooler. Tiare is another very different OJ that really interests me. Glad that was acquired while we had a chat!
Tiare is beautiful. The only reason I don’t have it is that Cristalle and Diorella fill a similar niche for me, although Tiare is more floral.
I am still craving for incense. I am already getting tired of most Summer’s fragrances like citruses, greens, etc. SOTD L’Artisan Passage d’ Enfer. This flowery incense is very light, clean and airy. A different approach to survive the exhausting weather.
Yes! That’s what I feel too! It is pouring rain here today and should be cooler after today. What are everyone’s favourite perfumes for rainy days?
For Summer rainy days I usually wear Annick Goutal Neroli, Chanel Cristalle, Chanel No. 19, Hermes Jour d’ Hermes, Hermes Un Jardin en Mediterranee, Lancome O, Bulgari Au de Vert among others.
That’s a nice rainy day list.
That’s a great list, thank you!
anything with violets or heliotrope for rainy days!
There is something perfect about En Passant in spring and summer, and Voleur de Roses makes me think of loamy
Earth and roses and abundant plant life- good for rain. In winter Cafe Rose seems perfectly matched to grey cold rain.
Oh, En Passant is perfect, you are right! I don’t know the others, but I put them on my sample list, thank you!
My SOTD is a relation: Timbuktu. Just felt right today – weather still quite dry and warm.
A very nice incense vetiver . Glad that you remind me. I will reach for Timbuktu tomorrow.
I seem to be obsessed with Annick Goutal’s roses this summer – today I’m wearing Ce Soir Ou Jamais again. I can’t think of anything I’d change so I guess its perfect.
Sounds perfect!
I’m in Opus II. For an Amouage, this is a rather light fragrance, but it does last as a close skin scent, which is what I wanted. I’m not a huge fan of fougere scents, but this is hitting the spot today.
I’m completely confused about the Opus scents, I know I’ve smelled most of them, but that’s the extent of my recollection…
They are from the Library Collection, which is meant to be a unisex collection of scents. I’ve tried the first 6 because I bought the sample set of them. Most of them are rather “meh”. They are easy to wear, but not overly memorable or going to have me running to buy one.
I haven’t tried many of the Opus collection but I do remember liking Iii. It’s a pretty floral but I bought Beloved instead. Can’t wait to pull it out in a few weeks.
Opus III is my clear favourite of the library collection, but I like Beloved a lot more. Not to mention Gold.
iii is a good one and I have worn that one a lot, but I think V is my favorite of the set, quickly followed by VI. In general though, I don’t think they compare to the main collection.
SL Fleurs d’Oranger. It opened with orange blossom and now it’s a jasmine tuberose scent. I would like cumin, which was in the original formulation, but this is still a great perfume.
Tick help needed…I found a tiny tick on my arm last night. I was barely outside, although I had to stop at the home of someone in a very lush wooded area, but just went into the house.
It wasn’t there earlier in the day. I removed it carefully with tweezers, washed the area, and it’s in a bag in the freezer. I didn’t see any residual bug on my skin. Yuck!!
Do I need to tell my doctor, wait to see a target lesion, or figure it wasn’t there long enough? There is a lot of conflicting advice on line.
Eek! I have no advice, only sympathy. I would call my doc and ask.
If ticks are removed within 24 hours of attaching themselves to your skin risk of transmission of infection is minimal. So policy in the Netherlands is to write down somewhere that there was a tickbite in case a person does develop symptoms.
As I don’t know what the guidelines are in your country I would get in touch with your doctor and ask.
I would get to the doctor or at least call…you cannot be too careful with Lymes disease…also, you can have it without having the bullseye rash…look up online other symptoms but I believe they could also be fever, fatigue and believe it or not, depression….keep a record of when you were bit and if you are feeling slightly off return to the doctor if he/she initially dismisses it…I cannot tell you how many individuals I know that did not address it early on and are now facing some serious medical issues because it was dismissed early on….not to be an alarmist but I would not want that to be you!
2nd that. If you get even slightly sick, do something, whether you had the rash or not.
Yes, go show it and the tick to the doctor! Lyme disease can be awful, and my grandfather died of tick fever! You can’t be too careful.
Thank you. I’ve E- mailed the doctor and will keep after him to do something.
I would also at least call: I’ve had borreliosis that was diagnosed a year later, when my knee swelled up to the size of a football. OK, a small football, but still. I was also misdiagnosed at first and put in a cast from my toes to the hip, until my other knee swelled up as well. Only then was I able to convince the doctor that I really had not fallen down while drunk and forgotten all about it (I was a student).
I’m sure this was just a harmless tick you caught in time anyway, but I believe you’ll feel better if you do something about it. And you smell great.
Thanks. Well, I’m glad you are ok, but it’s a bit scary.
I’m sorry, I did not mean to scare you – I personally find it quite funny now, but I realise (belatedly) that it probably does not seem funny to someone who’s worried at that very moment.
The main point is, however, that while ticks are extremely common in Estonia and often carry diseases, I was woefully uneducated about it all. I actually developed a rash, but didn’t know it was a warning sign. Borreliosis is treatable and especially if you catch it early, not really problematic.
It’s just scary that the diagnosis was missed and you had the cast. On the other hand, tick borne disease seems to often elude diagnosis, even though everyone worries about them.
Please go for a Lyme test! As someone who has Lyme disease, it’s better if caught early. It’s nothing to mess around with. Don’t wAit to see if symptoms develop.
I hope you are completely recovered now. Thank you.
I don’t think you can ever fully recover once you have Lyme. Although I have read they’ve had some success with hypobaric oxygen treatments.
The problem with testing for Lyme is, that as far as I know, the current tests cannot distinguish between ever having been infected or a recent infection. Which is a terrible nuisance.
That is so true. I tested positive twice. The second time I pulled a tick off myself, I had no idea if I was reinfected but still had to do the treatment. Better to be safe.
Come to think of it, I put the tick in a sealed plastic bag and brought it with me to the docs office. They did say it was a Lyme tick.
In the Netherlands there is a handy way to test the tick yourself on Borreliosis. We live in the middle of woodland, and I have these test ready. You sort of crush the tick in a special fluid and test it sort of the pregnancy way test…it won’t be 100% proof but it helps to assess if you need to visit the GP if you don’t have any symptoms. Maybe a similar test is available in the US? The brand here is called careplus.
I’ve never heard of that, but will check. Is it a big problem in The Netherlands?
On average 15 % of ticks are infected with Borrelia in the Netherlands, but even here there are a lot of variations from one area to another.
I live in the woodiest part of the Netherlands, and have a few friends who really have been hit hard by chronic Lyme. All the ticks I tested were Borrelia free which underscores Austenfan’s statistics.
I just googled and saw that this test is available in Canada, via stopthetick and then ca. I’m not sure if this means it is or will be available in the US.
We have Deer Tick’s around here that carry Lyme Disease–So if it were me, I’d call my doc and ask for a prophylactic dose of antibiotics. Its not a full course.
I am also a worry-wart!
Better to be careful!
Oh no! First the back, now this uncertainty. I have no advice to give but I am rooting for you that it resolves favorably!
I’m wearing an interesting combination of Dame’s Gardenia and that lily scent from Anthro with the huge white birds instead of a practical cap. Can’t remember the name of it. It’s an interesting battle of pretty florals and much better than the horrible musty smell emanating from my house right now.
They had that lily scent at Marshalls a few years back, but the huge box was a deal breaker. LOL
It was as big as a not-so-small satchel! 😉
Yeah. I couldn’t resist. They got really carried away with that bottle topper, which appeals to my sense of the absurd. It is completely impractical, though, and has been banished along with the enormous box to the back of my closet.
That’s what I love about Dame Perfumery…they are quite blendable…I imagine that you smell great!
Practically perfect Diorella is my SOTD. If I were to change anything, it would be the intensity of the opening, which makes me hesitant to spray more, leading to poor lasting power.
Agree with that one!
You’ve inspired me, Diorella for tomorrow!
I am feeling better today..thanks for all the well wishes yesterday..
I am in Rose Delight today and a few puffs of Shalimar dusting powder.
Good to hear 😉
You smell delish. Sounds like a good combo.
Great that you are feeling better 🙂
Thank you!
Lovely! And good you’re feeling better.
I’m in Muscs Koublai Khan today, which may have been a mistake. It’s a hot day! I smell like a herd of horses!
Oh dear, sorry!
Well, there are worse things to smell like! Now you have made me add this to my seeking a sample list!:-)
It’s a terribly nice herd, of course, I was only half complaining 🙂
Just got through with wearing my decant of Xerjoff Iriss. I do like it but it seems a little rough somewhere. I’m thinking that it’s either the woody note or the incense that it doing it. Definatly not worth the price tag in my eyes. I switched over to ISM after my shower.
I thought Irisssss was aping ISM, but not successful at it.
You smell great!
Iris Silver Mist is a favorite of mine.
Very good to know!
Still in Assam….what else is new-LOL!
And who should I be “thanking” for steering me in the direction of Ava Luxe fragrances? After yesterday’s comments was on the website in the wee hours of the morning and found at least 15 of her fragrances that I would LOVE to sample….the gourmands and musks are particularly appealing ( I am craving sweet, milky fragrances these days….I guess I overloaded on the citrus/tea of Assam for these past seven weeks!) But even some of the orientals sound interesting…
Can anyone chime in on your favorite Ava Luxe? Would welcome all opinions…thanks!
I have already decided that a few samples will be ordered as my Christmas present to myself!
Oh, my! Thinking of Christmas already. Ok!
I am budgeting and really trying desperately not to buy any more of anything I don’t need so for now to think of it on my Christmas list makes the most sense 🙂
Half St. Patrick’s Day is coming up. Getting anything green as a gift would be a fabulous way to celebrate it 😉
hajusuuri-
you are so bad..hee..hee..
Favourite Ava Luxe – I can help with that.
The concentrations are the ones I am familiar with.
Vanilla Musk – Absolutely amazing and a darn close dupe for Tihota – I have in Oil form. If you like vanilla, this is a must try
Moroccan Mint Tea – Fabulous green tea scent with a lovely swirl of mint ( sans toothpaste accord). EDP form.
Honey – a wonderful, non-skanky honey/beeswax note – oil form
Fig – a sweetish version of the note. Not much green here.
Oil form.
Oh thank you! I was eyeballing the Honey and several in the musk lineup…yes, I LOVE vanilla so I will go for the Vanilla Musk too..there was also a Fig Sucre which looked appealing and the Milk one caught my eye…I may do 10-15 samples as a holiday present to myself…it’s only four short months away…since I already make my own eseential oil blends I will probably go for the EDP form once I find one that I really like…the samples I believe are 2.5 ml of EDP….
I have never heard of that brand..let me know how you make out.
Did you try the Providence Co samples yet?
Yes! Holly was gracious enough to send me five…HIndu Honeysuckle, Branch and Vine, Peche Mousseline, Divine and Moss Gown…..they all have an earthy quality to them and remind me a lot of my essential oil concoctions so I don’t think I will be purchasing any full bottles any time soon…but I really did enjoy sampling them 🙂
I was surfing around on there yesterday also… The Milk scent caught my eye. And, even though I don’t do a lot of gourmands (Gourmand Coquin an exception), the descriptions were intriguing.
yes, the Cafe Noir intrigued me too….I also wanted to get an amber…and you are the second NSTer to recommend Moroccan Mint…thank you for your list!
Acck! that was supposed to be for perfumelover67!
LizzieB- the Milk one caught my attention too…I think the website said it is one of the most popular ones….I was also looking at the Almond one and the Heliotrope too….they all sound fabulous…too many choices-LOL!
I would recommend:
Cafe Noir (extrait)= One of the best coffee essences I have tried.
Ambra Tibet (extrait), Moroccan Mint (EDP), Creme Brulee (EDP), Milk (EDP), Asbinthe (extrait), Neroli Blossom (EDP)
scents
I accidentally replied above in lizzie B’s comments! Thanks for your list!
Cafe Noir it is! I’m so wanting a good coffee scent. Will add this to my ‘to try’ list.
For gourmand, I’ll echo the Honey suggestion and add Citrine, Cafe Noir, and Loukhom.
For musk, Love’s True Bluish Light sounds up your alley because it has a milky note. I liked Rasa and Kama too, though if I remember correctly they are more dirty musk rather clean.
My faves in general: Neroli Blossom, Fleur d’Oranger, Heart of Glass, Fig Leaf, Ambre d’Or, and Biba. There are plenty of older ones I really like, but I’m only listing ones that are still available on her website.
Rasa and Kama intrigued me for the names but I saw the notes and said probably not…Loves True Bluish Light is perfect! And I was also eyeballing Heart of Glass..I have a lot of citrus, neroli, orange blossoms so I am going to try first the gourmands and musks..oh yes, Loukhoum…that one sounded good too! Thank you for your recommendations!
SOTD: Prada Candy. I like it, sometimes love it, but it’s getting on my nerves at the moment. Maybe it will calm down as the day wears on! 🙂
“it’s getting on my nerves at the moment”….hysterical! Thanks for the good laugh…
I like it better in cold weather, I think.
It’s like my relationship with Intoxicated. I love it for the first 10-15 minutes, but then it starts getting on my nerves 🙂 Perhaps I should try using less of it.
You just reminded me that on Sat I was at our local Costco and it was selling about 40 different perfumes 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz for a flat $50. The pallet was right at the entrance. I became paralyzed and couldn’t move on to help my husband pick out a new cell phone until I had combed through all the offerings. They ranged from Prada Candy to Chanel No. 19 (edp)…off the top of my head I recall several versions and the original Modern Muse, some of Cartier Panthere’s (original and flanker as well), Balenciaga, Alien and tons more that are mainstream …. After making a little pile–Modern Muse Rouge, No. 19, and Alien, I talked myself down and put them all back. By the time I found my husband he was purchasing the most high tech phone they were offering. Considering how happy it made him, I think the money was better spent towards the phone than on perfume…. I think…
If this doesn’t get you expelled from perfumista club, I don’t know what will! :^D
I know.. (wrings hands…)
No, you were exercising brilliant perfumista tactics by nobly forgoing perfume to satisfy the whim of your spouse. So long as this maneuver is performed in the presence of said spouse (or someone reliable who will report the Great and Noble Sacrifice), it may actually boost your perfumista powers in the long term. By ostentatiously making the Great and Noble Sacrifice, you now have the advantage and can easily justify the next several purchases. I think, in fact, that you get bonus points for passing up bargain non-celebuscent perfume.
It’s really no easy thing to get expelled from the perfumista club 😉
My Costco has it too! My 15 yr old daughter pulled me away, reminding me how much we have…..
We go every week, so I’ll be back at some point to look at all the choices! 🙂
Just to torture myself, I checked out the online offerings–even more, including my beloved Sublime Balkiss… but I am on a perfume purchasing moratorium until I pay down a few credit cards…. but it is going for a song $79….. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
No 19 for fifty dollars? And you put it back…man, do you have willpower!
It was the first one I pulled off the shelf… but if I am honest with myself, I am working through my 5 ml decant fairly slowly… WILLPOWER!
What? No.19 EDP for $50??? I am living in the wrong state! Online, (no) thanks to clarissa, I found a small selection of The Different Company perfumes, 1.7oz all priced at $79.99. I think that’s cheaper per oz and probably a bargain for the ones that are normally priced at a higher premium than the regular line. I need to re-sniff before I buy (plus it is TOO HOT”‘for perfume to be in the postal system!
Perfect description! I tried Prada Candy only once and that was exactly my feeling.
I am wearing two tiny dabs of Ungaro Diva (1983) this morning. It’s a rose chypre with a pronounced civet note, so naturally I love it. Sprayed as we did in the eighties, I’m sure this was a powerhouse like Georgio or Paloma Picasso, but dabbed it’s just lovely. Cheap, too.
Sprayed? yes it was indeed a powerhouse….it is a fabulous scent, though!
Jardins d’Armide for me today.
I really want to try this one – I loved reading Jerusalem Delivered. But it’s so expensive!
31 Rue Cambon today.
I may have purchased 2 bottle of the Les Exclusives EDT yesterday before they went completely out of stock and felt the need to immerse myself in Chanel to validate the expense 🙂
Lovely
Good work!
Better safe than sorry! 😉
I agree. Visa may offer a differing opinion come statement day 🙂
oh, my! big day!
Diptyque Essences Insensees Jasmine today. This is a really great jasmine. After using Flying Fox shower gel last night for the first time in a while, I’m finding the Diptyque quite similar. My only gripe is the bulb atomizer on the bottle. I don’t know that I wood take the plunge and buy a bottle once my decant is gone because of that.
I’ve come to embrace the bulb. I actually find it quite fun to use. It doesn’t dispense much, but I just keep spraying.
Oh, and you smell divine!
You smell divine! But before you go with a FB, have you tried Rodin (olio lusso, the original one)? The price is crazy, but I see them often on eBay etc.
Yes, I meant to compare it to Rodin Olio Lusso in my earlier comment but got distracted! I actually have a bottle of Rodin purchased from eBay, so I really don’t need bottles of both. But sometimes I just want all the jasmine.
Awesome! It seems we went through a similar decision making process 🙂 I really liked Essences Insensees Jasmine, but then remembered to compare it to Rodin. And Rodin just won.
I have an appointment this afternoon so I am channeling Hajusuuri in No. 19. Such a lovely scent.
You smell FABULOUS, my dear 🙂
Lann-Ael by Lostmarch for me today. Putting this on reminded me that I really want a bottle of Fresh Cream by Philosophy! I have to sit on my hands, for my wallet is empty.
Arquiste anima dulcis today. I would love a full bottle of this.
You smell fabulous! That is one of the scents I am always proselytizing about 🙂
You smell great! Ditto for the FB list.
Nothing else like it.
Cuir d’Ange today, which is perfect, and it would be even more perfect for me if the hawthorn was a little bit more present.
lovely.
The mention of tea made me spray on Fragonard Jasmin Perle du The, which is very nice. Fleeting, though.
Also wearing drops of grapefruit from an incredibly juicy pink grapefruit I bought the other day. May be worth the hike to go buy more (store is downtown…).
In just walking half a block from my office, reverse osmosis kicked in. U hope your trip downtown was less oppressive!
Arquiste Boutonniere No7, after it was mentioned here last week, I dug out my sample. It opens as a super friendly, but not girly floral, and quiets down pretty quickly. Good for a day where I had to wake up early for our building inspection. Makes me feel (and hopefully seem) less under-slept.
I absolutely love this one.
I was testing this one as well recently. I found it refreshing and perfect for summer.
Perfectly perfect Chanel 19 in Parfum. Just heading into the drydown which just about brings tears of joy.
As much as I want school to start, I am already missing Summer. Sotd is Bond no 9 High Line, green and summery. I think it has a bit of an Envy vibe, but not as exceptional.
My money anxiety was looking like it would resolve itself last week, but HASN’T at all, so I’m taking refuge in Oeillet Sauvage. I only have a dabber sample – it’s sort of a lotion-y vanilla right now?
Oeillet Sauvage is a lovely fragrant refuge. I just have a dabber too, and it is quiet on me. Lotion-y vanilla sounds right, with a few gentle flowers thrown in to pretty it up. 🙂
Yes, it’s not quite cuddly, but it’s very soothing. I wish the flowers came in a little bit more, although after a bike ride it’s a little spicy – which is nice.
I also suffer from money anxiety, it’s the worst. Happy you are able to take refuge in fragrance. I wish a quick resolution to your stress.
Thanks! I’m both owed money and owing – really it’s the lack of communication that’s making me anxious and, honestly, kind of angry. But luckily, as you say, there is the refuge of fragrance.
I’m such a wimp. The fog has not burned off and my northern Californian sensitivity to drops or rises in temperature more than 5 degrees has kicked in. I turned on the central heating. Pathetic. I know. I also lavishly applied Fire Island, which means I am not fit for company… but at least I am warm and smell like an East Coast beach resort.
Many years ago when living in SF I actually lit a fire in the fireplace…in August.
A friend of mine who is visiting SF now posted a picture of the room they’re staying in with the fireplace lit!
Now that’s an idea….
Watch out, Mary Poppins. Today I generously spritzed La Chasse aux Papillons, practically perfect in every way.
Inspired by ajellyfish, I’m also dabbing a bit of Oeillet Sauvage. I don’t mind the way these scents disappear since a) it’s summer and b) they play together so nicely.
Plus, when they disappear you can try something else – or just reapply! Which is it’s own kind of pleasure, I think.
I went with Pacifica Persian Rose today. It’s working well in the heat proving how great it is in any weather.
You smell lovely, such a nice rose perfume.
Thanks! And the fact that it’s a ‘budget’ scent is such a bonus.
Isn’t it just hot, hotter and hotter than h-ll in your neck of the woods? MWAHAHAHAHA
Yeah, it’s pretty hot. Thankfully the humidity, which has been up (relatively speaking) lately, was down a bit today. But I’ll be escaping briefly later this week, so bwahaha!
SOTD = NVC Mohur Extrait
Perfect. The only thing I would change is the price ;-). I wonder how truly limited it is?
I’d be scared to wear this one in the heat. Ok for you?
To me, all NVCs have an almost transparent quality that makes them wearable in the heat – even Trayee works for me. I spent my entire Mohur sample in Dubai years ago and I have been wearing Mohur extrait throughout this summer (admittedly, there hasn’t been too much heat).
Trayee makes me feel very warm and so far I had only worn it in cooler temps. I may wear it one of these hot days!
BTW, I think you’re one of those people who can wear anything at any time and still come out smelling fabulous!
What a lovely thing to say! Thank you so much. You are no slouch yourself when it comes to smelling fabulous 🙂
Eek, I nust replied to my own comment! In short, it works well in all temps!
Mohur Extrait in heat is superb. It should be noted though that the majority of my day was inside an airconditioned office building.
Yes, the price is the only change I’d want for most perfumes! Mohur sounds lovely.
Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay, after a good workout and shower. I showered with Atelier Mistral Patchouli soap, then layered JM B & B on.
I managed to watch one episode on Netflix of Stranger Things. I’m hoping I can watch two episodes tonight. It is so suspenseful and the acting is so good!
I love Blackberry and Bay, and imagine it goes well with a hint of Mistral Patchouli.
Stranger Things is so much fun, isn’t it?
Robin, your link to the update on Bottega Veneta Eau Sensuelle actually links to Angela’s review of the original. 🙂
But it did inspire me wear the original Bottega Veneta as my SOTE in air-conditioned comfort
Oops! So sorry, here it is:

(oh, and thanks so much for letting me know!)
A sample of Trayee today, which is rather perfect in the small amount of warmth we have. Looking forward to exploring this more.
I adore Trayee, you smell great.
Thank you, I’m enjoying exploring this and the rest of the line.
The bad news: I’m doing my beached whale imitation, waiting out poison ivy.
The good news: I sprayed my chest (and poison ivy) with Cristalle edt this afternoon, then thought to brace myself for the sting. But no sting, just beauty. 🙂
Oh no! I hope it resolves quickly!
You have my sympathy. Perhaps you should look into investing in a tube of Zanfel, if you haven’t already. The stuff is expensive but really works well for my husband who is a poison ivy magnet.
I’d venture to guess that beached whales don’t smell like Cristalle. ???? Hope you recover soon!
That sounds more like a Beaufort London scent. “Falkland” (let’s call it) features top notes of ice, lime and harpoon accord, heart notes of beached whale and oak, with a base of rum, índoles and leather. ;^)
