Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Hermès Jardin Sur Le Nil body lotion.
Reminder: on 8/12 we're doing Fabulous but fleeting — wear a perfume you love even though it doesn't last as long as it should. Suggested by Mariann.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD- Assam of India
TORW- Chocolate Man

Is this the one with the adorable elephant bottle? Just catching on . . .
Yes… it was that very cute bottle which persuaded me to buy it blind!
Yeah I feel like I need that bottle. I love elephants.
I wore my sample of Assam of India last night. It is refreshing but has some warmth at the same time. The longevity was great for a tea scent. I’m too fickle for perfume monogamy, but it’s definitely there with my summer “go to” fragrances.
Yes I find it to be a great summer staple type of fragrance…I think the warmth you mentioned comes from the Mysore sandalwood in the base….longevity for an EDT is pretty good, I would agree….and you just can’t beat that adorable bottle!
Oh, tell me about Chocolate Man! Somehow I missed hearing about this one, haven’t ordered anything from Dame in awhile until yesterday, Just ordered the osmanthus soliliflore oil rollerball, a favorite note of mine.
The initial blast is a bit of an oddity to my nose but it dries down to what smells like a Tootsie Roll…..I happen to like it but it is on the sweet side….I have also paired it with Black Flower Mexican Vanilla on top which I liked too….I am eager to try the latest one released- Bergamot, Jasmine and Labdanum as well as the newest in the soliflore collections, particularly the Peony one…..
Thanks! The reviews on fragrantica were quite good, too, and I’m quite fond of a chocolate note in the cold of winter. Will have to get a sample. The new bergamot/jasmine/labdanum sounds good but then I’ve not been disappointed in any of the edt’s, The black currant/rose one is still my fave.
Didn’t know there was a peony one either, hmmm . . . another favorite note of mine.
Love my Osmanthus rollerball! It’s been fun layering it with things.
Good to know, thanks! That was exactly my plan, too, to layer under other fragrances to heighten the osmanthus note.
Ambre Nuit (Christian Dior). 🙂
You smell divine!
You smell great, Robin.
As for me, after having a glass of white wine with my lunch, I have decided that a perfect scent for this hot day will be Ginestet Sauvignon.
It’s Sauvignonne, sorry.
You smell great too! I realized I don’t even know if those Ginestet fragrances are still in production, in fact I’d nearly forgotten they existed.
I have a tester of Botrytis that I’ve never had the courage to actually test — sniffing the vial sets off my sweetness alarm to an alarming degree. But maybe it’s lovely?
That one is the sweetest of the 3, IIRC. It was too sweet for me but I know it does have fans.
It is sweet, although it gets a bit lighter and more floral on my skin. But yes, it basically a sweet honey fragrance. Since I like honey scents, I am a fan.
Fab but fleeting Vanilla Smoke
Since it’s already gone I am in Journey Woman..
Tea MF french breakfast
The Vanilla Smoke is amazing, isn’t it?? Sooo short-lived on my skin though.
Very short lived on me
Ooh, you smell wonderful!
I don’t know about vanilla smoke, but Journey women is one of my top 10’s, you smell wonderful!
Journey Woman is fabulous- I wouldn’t think of applying it in the summer, but it actually is holding up really well in the heat.
We were almost twins today but I got side tracked by BdJ’s sandalwood post!
I’m in Shalini again. It is definitely fleeting. I dumped the rest of the vial on today and it’s barely there. Although this swampy humid weather isn’t helping any.
Isn’t this the $900 one? It’s FLEETING???
It is. I put on quite a bit (finished the vial) and it was only a skin scent on me. I just smelled my wrist in the office and it’s very faint already and only 10 am. I put it on at around 7:40.
I also wore it yesterday and did my workout routine and took a walk. Usually, even with faint scents, I’ll get a boost of scent when I’m warmed up/ sweating from exercise and smell it, but I didn’t smell anything with this one, which was disappointing.
It’s soo expensive !!
When I first got the sample and read about it I thought: oh, ok, it’s a white floral. I didn’t really think much about it and then when I decided to finally try it I kept seeing references to how expensive it is and saw the price. It’s utterly ridiculous that this scent costs that much. It’s not even all that great.
I felt the same way, somehow with that price and the hype I expected it to be so much more than a barely there, green tuberose. I greatly prefer Amouage Honour Woman.
YES! Honor lasts much longer and smells better.
Ooo — is Honor Woman a green tuberose?
A sample of Jovoy Les Jeux Sont Faits. Mostly tobacco and patchouli, plus sandalwood and vanilla. Meant to evoke a men’s club with gambling tables, I guess. Nice but unexceptional.
hahaha
I am laughing because I can totally picture that scene and that smell..
Wearing Van Cleef and Arpeel’s Collection Extraordinaire Orchidee Vanille. I smell like an expensive pastry.
You smell great. Orchidee Vanille is the scent that changed my mind about vanilla.
You smell fabulous!
Your favourite lotion right?
I’m wearing Perle de Mousse and drinking Mint tea. I must have eaten something that disagreed with me, and this is kind of soothing.
Probably my favorite lotion, although that’s not saying so much since I have not bought all that many scented lotions!
So sorry you are under the weather. Mint tea always helps.
Hope the Mint tea helps, if not maybe ginger? You smell lovely.
Hope you feel better! Perle de Mousse is a beauty.
Mint or I love some fennel or chamomile with a dash of honey.
Now taking suggestions, NST! Second date tonight with THE CUTEST physics teacher. We’re grilling on my building rooftop, so it’s gotta be outdoor appropriate. Help me get that third date, please!
Ooooooh!!
What are you considering? And do you have an outfit planned?
Wearing a black peplum dress- the same one I wore for the Arquiste event last Saturday, actually! This dress is seeing a lot of cute men!
🙂
Oh yay!!! Has he indicated any interest / preference in fragrance? Or what did you wear for date #1 (and sorry if you already posted it and I missed it)
I thiiiink it was Poivre Piquant? I rely on that one a lot; interesting, but still very light.
Dab of Safran Troublant? The Pour Un Ete? (too lazy to do the accents)
Not sure why, but Philosykos came to mind. I’m really excited for you!
Great suggestion – very grill-friendly.
My Giacobetti obsession must have infiltrated your subconscious! 🙂
In that case, Passage d’Enfer? It my scent for when I want to be my best 🙂
Something that will still smell good to mix in with The smoke from the grill
This makes me wish I still had some Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille! I bet that burnt vanilla would be great for grilling.
Ari my husband (not a physics teacher) always gives me ‘the look’ when I am wearing a rose perfume, any one. So maybe Quel Amour! 😉 or a Tauer rose that stands up to the grilling? Or Safran Troublant to keep your calm?
Oh my! And what good incentive for your husband to bring you roses! 🙂
Jasmin et Cigarette?! Good luck!
Thank you, Elisa!! I admire Jasmin et Cig from afar (far, far afar), but it’s way too much jasmine for me. To be fair, almost any amount of jasmine is too much jasmine for me!
Ha! Funny. I always think “I need more jasmine!” when I wear that one.
Me too! I’m like, “That’s pretty, but TURN IT UP!!!” Maybe my jasmine receptors are damaged from too much vintage Joy. 😉
Yay for the cutest physics teacher! I’m going to put in my vote for L de Lolita Lempicka.
Oh, this might be the winner. L de LL is pretty much irresistible.
Something lemony or citrusy will stand up to the heat, smoke and food & drinks. If you want something that is also kind of sensual, with vanilla base, I’d pick Diptyque Eau Duelle edt. He may just think you are a nice tall gin and tonic! Good luck!
Such a good suggestion! I should have bought some Eau Duelle when it was on sale at Hautelook 🙁
I like this choice!
How exciting! I’ll 2nd Eleebelle’s rec of L Lolita for the yummy factor.
Have a great time!
Yay for cute scientists!! You know, I often feel that the effect my perfumes have on others isn’t so much direct as through the route of influencing my own state of mind and thus the effect that *I* have on others. So, I vote for whatever perfume makes you feel like your most awesome self!
Yes, exactly!
This. As long as your scent isn’t overwhelming.
I’m pretty sure you’ll get a third date in any event.
I’m sure you’ll get that third date! In college I had an unbelievably cute TA for my physics lab who, in a cruel twist of fate, happened to be the fiancée of a friend/classmate in my major! So you’ve already got an infinitely better chance, right? ????
Enjoy whatever perfume you choose. Good luck, and have a great time!
Hey ya’ll – hope everyone is well!
Wearing Indian Night Jasmine body lotion from the Body Shop. It’s not my late, lamented Neroli Jasmin, but it’s related, so it makes me happy.
I continue to long for the end of the heat and humidity, when I can get back to the majority of my regular scents. In the meantime, Eau Suave seems to work, and so does Bottega Veneta, but I have to admit that I’m not spritzing much lately.
It’s so hot- we are staying inside and babies are over heating
Oh no – the poor babies!! Do you have air conditioning? Hope so. They’re so sad when they’re uncomfortable.
Go visit your local public library! They are guaranteed to have a/c and lots to distract babies and mom too.
we do have a/c, I meant they were over heating inside. Some of the local libraries don’t have a ramp for strollers 🙁
Maybe I will try a barnes and noble or just stay inside
I’m kind of shocked that any public library would not have a ramp for strollers/wheelchairs!
I’m with you in the weather wishes. I’ve stayed with light, fresh scents or very green. I’m really wanting to move on….
AdP Iris Nobile EDP. Not what I expected, but I like it a lot, I think it will do great in even cooler weather.
Iris Nobile is lovely in cold weather, it really stands up to the chill, can be a bit head ache inducing in really warm weather I find.
It is gorgeous, more yellow iris than orris.
I should know this, but I don’t – what is the difference between orris and iris?
Orris is the iris root, which after being dug up ferments for a few years before it smells lovely, and it is very expensive. Iris is the flower, and as far as I know, some iris flowers do smell.
The ones in my garden are very fragrant, and range from creme brulee to unlit menthol cigarette, smell-wise.
I think that the Iris Nobile edp is just as much a pretty whopping oriental. It can be a bit rich for warm weather.
Good morning everyone…..Busy at work with Code Blue drills! Roll those crash carts and get to the scene, peeps! 🙂
SOTD: Very Estee.
Hark! Friday approaches…..
Scent cousins with Robin today in Jour d’Hermès, sprayed quite lavishly.
Hey cousin!
Ostara today, although It’s almost gone now.
Lovely!
One of my favorites. You smell great!
Beautiful!
How did you like it, Mayfly?
gorgeous scent!
In Trayee after reading Victoria’s sandalwood post.
Even though I’m not a huge incense fan, I really enjoyed my sample of Trayee.
Trayee is so dreamy
Perfection.
SOTD box of eels
I ordered before the smaller bottle disappeared
And I’m so glad I did.
After a doozy of a day, it was waiting for me last night when I got home.
It’s beautiful.
Congrats on your new bottle!
Congrats. I am finding myself tempted by the small bottles of the Exclusifs, even the ones that last two seconds on me and the ones I haven’t tried.
I bought eels blind based on comments from NSTers
I have been smelling my arm all day
On Chanel Bel Respiro. Very fleeting but nice and green for the unbearable heat we are facing once again…
I love that one so much. I really wish Chanel would do an extrait of that. The EDT is very fleeting.
In Cristalle today. Up early to investigate how to register vehicles here. I’ll be finished moving someday.
Have a great day, all.
I almost wore Cristalle today… so perfect for summer time!
love Cristalle. you smell great.
You smell lovely today!
Yesterday was way too much time outside in heat and humidity. May stay close to home today. I did, though, happen to be near London Pharmacy the other day so couldn’t resist. I love that store. I could spend hours. Only had a few minutes so replenished my beloved Blanc Lila soap and body mousse. Used the mousse yesterday under OJ Frangipani.
Stopped in Sephora during a squall, so got samples of the new Nirvanas. Just put on the Rose de Mai. Not sure about it yet. Certainly too dusty for this weather.
I liked the Nirvana Rose, but after a half hoyr it seemed a bit too high pitched for me.
Where’s London Pharmacy?
8th Ave at 22nd or 23rd I think. They have a fair amount of niche scents, including Nicolai. Skin care, soaps, etc. Lots of soaps. Similar feel to Bigelow downtown, but inventory is different. I first went there because it used to be the only local store that carried Nicolai, after Aedes dropped the line.
Nirvana Rose seems to have pretty much faded away on me. Either that or the AC stuffiness I’ve developed is inhibiting my ability to smell…
Thanks for the info! Sounds familiar-especially the Nicolai part. Can’t believe I haven’t been there yet-need to remedy.
The Rose lasted through a handwashing in me!
SOTD is Le Galion Snob. I am quickly emptying the mini I have of this!
I just ordered a bunch of those minis! Can’t wait for their arrival.
East Coast friends: Stay hydrated and try to stay out of the heat!
SOTD: Eau du Sud
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful posts about my diabetic kitty. I posted late yesterday and didn’t see your responses till today. A note to Petunia: Yes, try to regulate your kitty’s diet so she doesn’t gain that weight, and make sure you play with her to keep her fit (just like humans trying to not get type 2!) Probably if we were more careful about that stuff we wouldn’t be in this pickle. Luckily, with the special diet and insulin, it’s possible to get it under control.
I saw a link to ‘cute’ photos of really really fat cats and found myself surprised by how upset it made me. I am not a skinny person anymore and I have a pleasantly plump cat, but looking at these picks made me rethink what we thought was cute in our tabbies!
Pics!
I know. I feel totally different about it too since our kitty got her diagnosis. After all they are living beings and dependent on us for the most part to make sure they are healthy.
Sending you good wishes and positive thoughts as you care for your kitty. I had an elderly kitty who was diabetic for the last 1-1/2 years of his life – didn’t think I could handle the whole routine of shots/special diet, etc. but soon found it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I thought, and I never regretted for a moment doing whatever I could to maintain his quality of life for all the years of love and joy he brought to mine.
Aw thank you.
I just caught up on my NSTing. Sorry to hear about your kitty.
Eau de Sud is a great fragrance to beat the heat!
Yes it’s really a good one for this weather. I like the AG’s that have that slightly tart/bitter edge. The AG florals, a lot of them have that slightly rancid hazelnut note that I associate with indoles. Not really my cup of tea.
I’m wearing what has turned out to be one of my favorite Atelier Colognes – Sud Magnolia. Perfect for this hot, hot weather.
I have a sample of this one I believe. I will try it out!
I like this one in the heat, too. It’s kind of a citrusy rose on me.
J.Crew+Arquiste 31…. which smells great, but I think I need to hide it until fall
Oh, that’s a very rich scent for a warm day! Not a bad choice at all- it’s boozy fun-, but perhaps a summer evening?
CdG Kyoto for calmness.
lovely.
SOTD is Linari “Acqua Santa”. Now, on me this didn’t last well and I found the opening just a bit sweet. I could have sworn I smelled passion fruit, but the official top notes are cassis and bergamot (and some other stuff that I don’t think could give a passion fruit scent).
Anyway, I don’t like this because it’s not my style and doesn’t work well on my skin in this heat, but I think there are some NST folk who like L by Lolita Lempicka, and others who kind of like it but think it too sweet? Well, this one is by Maurice Roucel and a lot of Fragrantica reviewers seem to see it as a less sweet cousin of L, so if that floats your boat this one may be worth sampling.
Man, it is HOT here today; I am working in shorts t-shirt and flip-flops and I feel overdressed! :^D
Spraying myself now with Alvarez Gómez “Agua de Colonia Concentrada Barbería”, from a FB bought yesterday. This is another drugstore cheapie in Spain that knocks the socks off the Linaris and Parfumerie Générales of this world.
Top: lemon, bitter orange, bergamot and ginger
Mid: rhubarb, labdanum and coriander
Base: cedar, sandalwood and white musk.
It’s only an EdC so will need re-applying, but it was just €29 for 100ml so who’s counting? :^)
Old fashioned budget colognes ARE THE BEST. I love big bottles of the stuff, kept in the fridge and ready to apply after the shower or after being out on a hot, sweaty day!
Ha, thanks for the nudge – I put my bottle in the fridge earlier and have just enjoyed a cool blast of it!
Hi Koenigsberg, a good occasion to thank you for the Alvarez Gomez Agua Colonia Concentrada suggestion which I bought a big and cheap bottle of when I was in Spain. Wonderful stuff but unfortunately not needed here as we are in an usual August cold spell.
Hi Hamamelis, I’m delighted you enjoyed it. I prefer that original to the Barbería variant I’m wearing now, but the cooler greener tones of Barbería are working very well today.
Hopefully the upside of an unusual cool spell is you get to try some richer perfumes that would otherwise have to wait a bit longer. :^)
My SOTD is kind of messed up because at first this morning we were cold humidity and now we are hot humidity. I started out with just a dash of the “new” Caron Vetiver on my wrists to wake me up. I love vetiver with humidity. But then a few hours later, I decided to just go for it and blasted my neck and hair with Goutal’s Heure Exquise edt. It smells perfect in humidity too.
Always perfect.
😉
twins with Robin today except the medium is different. perfume as opposed to lotion.
oh and also I smelled the Nirvana flankers yesterday. the Bourbon ends up smelling exactly like the Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel. to the point where I was looking around my office trying to figure who was using self-tanner until I realized it was my right hand. haha. the Rose is in the vein of Juliette Has a Gun Lady Vengeance for me. (I didn’t do a side by side but that’s what it reminded me of, a jammy rose.)
OK I want to try these.
How was staying power? I could barely smell Nirvana Black after 10 minutes
Umm, I can’t give an exact answer on this because I used a rollerball on the top of each of my hands at lunchtime and only put on a tiny bit just enough to be able to smell–I didn’t want to be overwhelming at work. From what I could tell the lasting power seemed fine. But I would have to properly wear them in order to ensure that.
Have you tried the Clarins self-tanning milk? The fig lasts a LONG time. But I prefer fig over other brands’ attempts to hide their awful self tanner smell. ????
ooo no, but I’ll check it out! 🙂
I got samples of both from Sephora but it is too hot to wear them right now. I liked them on paper.
Hey twin! I do need to go try those.
Family friends lived in that light house and we stayed over one night in the summer (I remember mostly because I watched Jaws for the first time and barely slept that night) and of course visited the light house.
No scent for me yet. It will be light and easy with this humidity. Family is visiting, poor things, they’re from Miami and they’re just dying in this heat. Go figure!
What a cool experience! What’s a home in a lighthouse like?
Watching Jaws whille on a beach vacation probably not advised.
🙂
The home was separate from the light house, if I remember correctly. Unfortunately I was too young to appreciate what a great experience that was, or the amazing views.
Poor family! They were probably hoping for a break.
They show Jaws outside on the beach every year on Martha’s Vineyard. Such a great movie…really needs to be seen unedited and on the big screen.
I’m a huge fan of the movie, I know the lines by heart and it’s a tradition for me to watch it every labor day weekend. I think the fact that it happens on an island and has tons of beach/water scenes just reminds me of my youth. The cast was quite good too.
I’d love to see it on the big screen again.
that would be memorial day weekend 😉
also, 4th of july I do sometimes too
We saw it at BAM two years ago on the 4th. It was fun seeing it with people who hadn’t seen it before. Many screams and laughter. I hadn’t seen it on the big screen since it came out. Yes, I’m that old….
Oh how cool!! We are on the Cape, there is a theater here that still shows Jaws every week 🙂
Fun!
Miami would probably be a relief for me under our horrid horrid weather!
Before my shower, I was bathed in Shalimar Ode a La Vanille. Now since I’ve taken a bath, I’m commando and thinking about continuing the vanilla theme. Guerlain SDV or Vanille Absolument are the ones that I am debating over.
Is this one still available at retails? I cannot find it anywhere and keep hearing all these good things about it. How does it compare to SDV?
Vanilla Absolument has been discontinued, which I am sad about. You can find SDV at Nieman Marcus or Saks Fifth. SDV is a little more smoke and burnt.
Lonestar Memories today. I tried Bat again yesterday and believe it or not I think it was just too hot even for a bat cave.
You smell very good!
Thank you!
SL Ambre Sultan today…
You smell fabulous and this one is the opposite of fleeting!
Why thank you! I’m counting on the Sultan to be my faithful sidekick all afternoon long! 🙂
Limbering up for tomorrow’s challenge by wearing SL Bois de Violette, the epitome of fabulous-but-fleeting. It is very calming and serene while it lasts, which is what I need today and tomorrow. Work is going to get super busy (Friday deadline, but at least that keeps the weekend free).
Last year I had a similarly busy period at work and kept spraying a Jo Malone French Lime Blossom every couple of hours. Helped with staying awake. I finished that bottle in no time.
Oh! Good one for tomorrow. You smell lovely, though.
LUSH smugglers soul, after weeks of Kiehls Coriander, the only scent I’ve got in rollerball format! I’m relieved to be home with my perfume bottles. So many options!
Yay! It’s Thursday!
Started the day in Eau Universelle because it will be a scorcha today. Then have the wonderful Escada Agua del Sol on pulse points, because it’s fun and plays very nice with the herbally Eau Universelle.
Look at you and layering!
Hey lovely lady! 🙂
I love layering – it’s a great way to play around with notes and make fragrances your own! These two in particular really seems suited for each other and very hot weather.
Huitieme Art Poudre de Riz because I wanted girlie this morning. It seems like it would be stifling in the heat, but it’s a light powder with a hint of clean musk so it’s working nicely, so far.
Had to look that up, since I didn’t know it. It sounds lovely.
It is nice. A bit rosy and it’s just one of those no-brainer, easy-to-wear perfumes. It was a surprise hit from a sample from Hajusuuri from the freebiemeet package(Hajusuuri unknowingly enabled). I ended up draining the sample quickly and getting a bottle at Osswald. Happy to share some with you. Hit me up if you’d like.
Thanks. Will do.
Ha! Another jewel for my tiara then 😉
That’s wonderful. Rice is such a lovely note, I wish it was used more often.
I love rice and rice powder notes, too. This one may be a bit boring compared to some others (Kenzo Amour, Putain de Palaces, MCG Burlesque) but it is one of those comfort scents.
I have a sample that I have in my “use more- promising” section of the collection. Agree about the comfort and ease.
Chanel 28 La Pausa. I really do love this scent. I’m going through my sample rather quickly.
I think you need a FB 🙂
Dentist appointment this morning so a good time for the very fleeting Iris Ukiyoe.
You smell good while it lasts though!
Continuing the fig theme with Debaser by DS&Durga. Great treatment of the theme!
Cuir de Russie today, because I needed bucking up.
Nothing like Chanel for backbone. 🙂 Good luck!
I’m gonna wear it tomorrow, it is fabulous but fleeting on me 🙂
Yes! Backbone and elegance. I like to think that it’s offsetting the fact that my hair today looks like something that woke up in a ditch.
You smell just fabulous!
Lys Carmin on an overcast morning that’s supposed to turn hot, hot, hot this afternoon.
Guerlain Terracotta. It’s been such a challenging week that I haven’t even been able to check the posts at night. I hope everyone is ok and the AC is working. I’m still dealing with the back/ sciatica issue, which is causing a major sleep deficit, although with the exercises and incorporation of other great suggestions, overall movement is better. I went for acupuncture this morning and thought the practitioner would not object to Terracotta. It’s fabulous and feisty.
“Fabulous and feisty” is a wonderful description. Good to hear there is some improvement in the back/sciatica issue. Acupuncture is one thing I haven’t tried but am curious about. So far, massage has always been helpful for my lower back problems.
I did have to visit emergency once (severe lower back strain) and ended up with 2 weeks worth of useful drugs. The ER nurses weren’t sympathetic and could not understand why I couldn’t sit up for dinner, even though I had managed to walk a few feet with their help. ER doctor had to explain to them the mechanics of the lower back. He told me “back pain is the worst pain you can have. I know because I’ve had it myself.” Whew!
Took 6 weeks before I could sit up straight instead of reclining.
Glad you’re getting better!
Pear and Olive by Slumberhouse.
I am constantly adding/ removing this one from my sample cart, what are your thoughts??
I love it – but I am very impartial to Slumberhouse. It is very unique – I honestly have not smelled anything even remotely close to it, but I do recommend getting a sample of it. I kept hearing rumors of it being discontinued, so I pulled a plug on the FB.
Oh yay! You smell fabulous! I’ve been wanting a bottle of this forever!
Mmmm good! And I so owe you an email!
Guerlain French Kiss but the spa I’m going to for my massage this afternoon has some perfumes in their gifty area so I might be in a Keiko Mecheri scent in a few hours
Fleur de Sel as so often this summer.
Jasmin et Cigarette. I put it on this morning because it’s such a chilly scent, I thought it would keep me from exploding – heat index is already 101. In the shade, with the wind blowing it’s almost okay to be alive and outdoors, but shade and breezes are intermittent. Anyway, really hoping those thunderstorms we’re supposed to be getting tomorrow show up early.
Yeah but in NYC, it got hotter after the storm!
Sure, but you have the consolation of being in New York. 🙂
Wearing a little bit of ELdO Fils de Dieu this morning, and will be testing the new releases from DS Durga later this afternoon.
Not sure what the perfume related equivalent of an ear-worm is, but I read an article on Fragrantica about a custom scent being made, Dirty Monoi (which sounds amazing in and of itself,) but spiraled into the perfumer’s personal line, SP Parfums by Sven Pritzkoleit. In particular, a scent called Sunmilkflowers. Is anyone familiar?
Please report on your take on the new DS Durga!
Yes do report! I liked Atlantic Rose enough to get a full bottle. Roses and salt, light and fresh for the heat. Not the most original thing in the world maybe, but I really like it. And I am a fan of the new bottles. The other two I haven’t fully taken in yet.
If you like salty notes, you may like Le Labo Iris 39. No one ever really mentions the salt note but it is one I noticed and the reason why I wore it today — to combat the unbearable humidity.
I started thinking about petit rien last night, so I figured I better make good on the thought this morning.
I am wearing so many things today, like a perfume overload. I took my shower with Carnal Flower shower gel, topped that with Chasse aux papillons body cream and sprayed myself with Chanel Boy. This was gone in an hour, the lasting power of Boy is unbelievably low on me, I am surprised it is edp.
Now I am wearing Guerlain Rose Barbare.
You smell great. I like the progression. 🙂
I hope the upcoming reformulations of Les Exclusifs are not as weak as the current scents. Boy disappointing lasting power leaves me with so many doubts considering its is an EDP.
Boy did not last long either but I can’t imagine wearing more than 4 sprays in one shot.
SOTD is 31 Rue Cambon because she was sitting there daring me to pass her up and not regret it the rest of the day. Like Mitsy, she always wins.
Have a good day, NSTers!
I forgot I was going to mention a scent-related anecdote from yesterday. As I was bobbing and splashing around in the pool, I kept getting huge whiffs of the surrounding Texas rangers (aka Texas sage, purple sage, etc.) which are blooming. NSTers outside the US Southwest might be interested to know the flowers smell–strongly–like overripe bananas!
Thank you for today’s chuckle . . at first, when I read your post, I thought, Wow, she’s swimming with the baseball team?! Now, whenever my Sox play them, I’ll automatically think, overrripe bananas! 🙂
???? Hahaha! C’mon Sox, smush those Rangers like overripe bananas!
Mmmmm, twinsies a day late 🙂
Today I join Robin in Un Jardin Sur le Nil. It has middling lasting power on me, so later I’ll refresh with Eau des Merveilles.
There is something green in Sur le Nil, and also in Un Jardin Sur le Toit, that doesn’t always agree with me. But on a warm summer day like today it’s very nice.
Yes to Hermès!
I just doused my arm in Terre d’Hermes at duty free and am really liking it. The Jardins don’t work for me, but I might need this one.
You smell fabulous. I’ve smelled it on others, now I’ve got to try Terre d’Hermes myself.
I like the Eau Fraiche flanker even better!
Thank you for the tip, chances are I will love a flanker if it’s from Hermes. 😀
I think the lotion actually lasts longer on me than the EdT.
Horribly hot and humid, so I decided to be contrary and wear Black Afghano. I am so ready for fall to get here.
Ha! Take that weather! I’ve been wearing Arso at night in a similar spirit.
I’m so ready for spring here! It’s cold in a mean-spirited, angry sort of way here.
It’s still morning here on the west coast! 🙂
SOTD is Eau d’Orange Verte. Should wear off by the time I go to massage therapy this afternoon. Oh, and my massage therapist’s favourite perfume is Pink Sugar. We discussed perfume for a few minutes during the last appointment.
You smell great!
Hello….I’m late-ish today, for no good reason, except that I feel so bone idle that even when Dakkie wailed for his breakfast, I wriggled further under the duvet. I’ve decided to wear Ambre Narguile for my shimmer of fleeting beauty. It actually has a medium life-span on me, but then, so too do Apres L’Ondee and Bel Respiro, so I’m not really taking the Friday projec very seriously.
AN was an instant, true love, as deep fall a fall as any I’ve experienced down here in the rabbit hole. I’m meeting Kanuka for coffee at 10.30, and I want to share it with her to see if she likes it. By the way, her book launch was great: an interesting, intimate space and an audience of interesting, and interested, women. Both Kanuka and her friend spoke brilliantly and really movingly. I loved their talks. Then I mislaid my way home–typical!–but at least a random bloke who started talking to me at a pedestrian crossing told me I smelt very nice, which was rather a personal comment for a complete stranger to make. However, it’s always nice to receive a perfume compliment–that made three yesterday. -It was the remnants of the day’s Loukhoum; I must remember that it lasts as long as a geological age! And this chap actually turned out to be very kind: he walked out of his way to show me a good route home.
And now, coffee with Kanuka. Fun!
Great to hear Kanuka’s book launch went well! Y’all enjoy your coffe meet-up today!
I will. I’m a complete klutz, though–I wanted to make her a sample of some vintage Joy I have, but the sprayer thing came apart in my hands, and now the bedroom smells more like a girly boudoir of A Certain Type than a space to share with the dear one, Dakkie and Isabella have departed these shores wrinkling their elegant noses, and worst of all, now I can’t coax any perfume out of the bottle, not at all. Oh, the trials of perfumistas!
????????
Uh oh. Sorry! At least (a) it was something that smells good and (b) you didn’t also hurt yourself in the process. ????
Information re Kanuka’s book please?
It’s called The Quiet Spectacular, and for the rest, you need to read it to see the interwoven stories of three women and a den. It’s full of quiet humour and importance of everyday. moments. The writing is exquisite– nobody else lays down a sentence quite so gently and yet powerfully. I loved it. You know how you sometimes come across a read that turns out to be the very thing you needed at that very time for reasons you hadn’t even become aware of? TQS met me in one of those moments a few weeks back, and I pretty much gulped it down, then went back and read it more appreciatively.
Thank you, I will definitely try to find it. And I totally understand what you mean, it’s like “Thank you, Book Goddess, but how did you know?”
SOTD is a generous amount of Juicy Couture La La, the only time I reach for it which is farely rare, is after taking a shower.
I’m trying to post a little earlier today. I wore Cristalle because it is a swampy 90 degrees today and I attended a funeral. It is probably one of the few scents I can comfortably wear in high heat and humidity.
Sorry for the loss Petunia. Cristalle seems like a good choice all around. I’d probably pick a Chanel for a funeral.
Thanks Elisa. My Uncle was 90 years old and such a wonderful perso that he’ll be missed despite his long life.
I think I need to get on the Cristalle bandwagon with so much love in this blog. Cristalle and Eau Premier (I heard there’s a flanker coming out…some kind of rose)
It’s really a great summer scent. Like many Chanels, it’s appropriate for any occasion.
Realized I haven’t been wearing my Serges much lately and decided to see if Douce Amere would work in this heat. It does, but it is a bit more aromatic than powdery in heat. Maybe I’ll wear Clair de Musc a bit later, before bed. Somehow I have been very hung up on Vanille Exquise (thank you, Hajasuri!!!) lately, even in the heat. And Heure Exquise. Cristalle. Mito. …
Sorry – Hajusuuri!
Put on La Chasse aux Papillons today because I remember it as fleeting but today I could still smell reminants well into the afternoon!
I feel like I have done the exact opposite of the challenge this week . . .
SOTD is Nahema.
Absolutely luscious and sexy
Eeek, 228 comments already!
SOTD = Le Labo Iris 39
People. It is like a giant blew his hot breath out there – it is disgustingly hot! The thinderstorm that passed through before I left the office sizzled the hot sidewalk which steamed up the air – yuck!
Exactly. It was INTENSE today. But you smelled great!
Thanks! Tomorrow I will wear the blouse that my boss thinks is a beach cover-up because she is working from home.
The heat index is supposed to be in the triple digits tomorrow with no relief until Sunday.
I can’t believe that your boss commented about your blouse. That’s crazy. You don’t seem like the type to wear inappropriate attire to work.
I know, right? Makes me want to wear something inappropriate 🙂
Oh, I know whereof you speak. It’s just ungodly and I find myself in a torpor most of these summer days. It’s ridiculous how I run from air conditioned house, in pure dread of opening the oven that is my car, crank the AC to max and try to ignore the dripping down my cleavage. Constant sticky sweatiness- ugh! The thought of it, even as I loll about now under the AC vent, makes me reach for my beloved bottled of Corsica Furiosa. Winter can’t get here soon enough.
Oh yes – oven car. My sister, and I love her so, thinks it’s okay to jump into the oven and start driving without turning on the AC. When I asked her to turn on the AC, she wanted to know if I was having a hot flash. Hello – car, under the sun for hours, if this is a hot flash then fine, but just turn on the darn AC!
