Happy Monday, and happy Happiness Happens Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight.
Reminder: on 8/12 we're doing Fabulous but fleeting — wear a perfume you love even though it doesn't last as long as it should. Suggested by Mariann.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Le Labo Ylang 49 which for some reason I’m not quite loving! Still loving the postcards.
Good, it will be postcards all week 🙂
I love that one! Sorry you are not feeling it
Well, I think you smell great. The only detractor in that one is the woods used in the base smell a bit too saw-dusty to me, so I’ve remedied that by layering it with sandalwood EO.
I mostly get drydown and not in a good way, 😉
Also I feel that a fragrance as expensive as the Labo’s are should not need doing up, but that’s just me.
Agreed, which is why I haven’t bought it ????
I absolutely LOVE to smell this on someone else, but it is too strong on me. I bought the Ylang 49 body oil last year, and it was very moisturizing, and I really enjoyed wearing it. The thing is, it would get stronger as the day went on, and it just got to be too much.
I ended up dividing the bottle 3 ways and giving it to 3 different friends who commented that they liked the way it smelled on me. When they wear it, it smells great on them.
Honestly, I could still smell it after my shower, and by that time I was so tired of it. It’s a pity because it is a good scent.
Good morning, NST! I’m unscented in preparation for major mall-crawling later today. Hoping to sniff the new Pradas and the new Atelier Cologne. The Jo Malone Rare Teas are on the Nordstrom website, but I don’t think they’ve made it to my Nordstrom yet.
Will love to hear what you think of new Atelier (the camellia one?). I was in Sephora very briefly and sprayed it on a paper but got nothing from it…very faint. I was in a hurry and neglected to spritz on skin or get a sample…
Oh, it’s at Sephora too? That’s so helpful to know, thank you! I had only been looking on the Neiman’s website. Will report back!
Have fun with your mall crawl. I would love the chance to get to roam around a really nice mall!
Enjoy the mall-crawl. Hope you find something nice.
I didn’t see the Camellia at my local Sephora(Herald Square), but they had the 2 new Elizabeth and James. I’ll be curious to know what you think if you get to try them. Enjoy the mawl!
Same for me. I actually got a sample of the Vanilla Bourbon, which is quite nice but also quite fleeting ;(
correct name is Nirvana Bourbon — )
They said they were out of sample vials. Grrr. Wow, I’m finding the Bourbon pretty potent, though it’s only been an hour. It smells very much like Diptyque Eau Duelle to me. The rose isn’t bad either. Find that one disappearing faster.
I dabbed vs. sprayed. Need to try a few sprays next.
Love to hear what you think about the Pradas!
I tried the Jo Malone teas at Saks but I’d really like to know who the heck is purchasing 175mls of fragrance these days?
LOL… Me. I am a sucker for those Dior Privé gallon jugs. But not interested in the tea scents.
Inadvertently doing Fab but Fleeting with my SOTD: Hiram Green Shangri-La. I might get 3 hours out of this one, but they are a beautiful 3 hours, and I can always respritz.
Everything is relative, isn’t it? Three hours is about average lasting power on me; “fleeting” is an hour.
Interesting – anything under 5 hours is really sub-par to me. Average is 6-13. Rozy EDP gets almost 24, as does No. 5 EDP. Lucky me.
Lucky you!
I’m with Mals on this one, fleeting is an hour, moderate about 3-4 hours. Anything longer than 5-6 is longlasting indeed. However this means I get to wear a lot of scents!
That’s about my take. And I don’t want anything to last more than 3 or 4 hours.
I used up my 5ml sample of Shangri la, I really loved it. Debating on a FB, but may wait until the split meet to see if it comes up. It’s last about 3 hours on me, sometimes more. Lovely scent
have not tried Shangri La but was gifted a sample of Voyage and love it….do you or anyone know if that would be considered unisex? I am putting together two care packages for my niece so that she can have an “alcohol” party at college and I am separating the unisex from the feminine samples and decants….would love for those Bath and Body Works teenagers to get their noses into some quality perfume 🙂 Even though there are only a few drops of the Voyage left 🙁
On me, it skews distinctly feminine, but on my skin, the entire line does.
Good to know…on me it can go either way so I think I will put it in the unisex…the name does not reveal it to be feminine …..
You know honestly in re-reading my comment it seems a bit snobbish and I want to retract it….first off, Bath and Body Works has some decent stuff…and secondly, many of the college kids today are already heavily in debt with student loans…the last thing on their minds is spending a lot of money (as in anything above 20 dollars per bottle according to my niece) on perfume…especially when you can get with sales prices 3oz for three dollars of fragrance mist at B & BW….
I planned to wear something “fabulous but fleeting” today, but the day turned out a bit stressful, so I decided I need something cheerful and with a decent staying power.
My choice is Dior Escale a Portofino – a sweet, sunny citrus cologne with a surprisingly good longevity.
Oh, and you smell wonderful! EaP is one of my favorite scents.
I love Escale a Portofino much more now than I did years ago. I wear it so much more than I realize. I need to get another bottle! And that rarely happens to me.
I’ll have to sniff that one out — it sounds like something I’d like. Hope your stressful day is turning around!
Such a joyful scent. Hope it does the trick!
Chiming in with Escale a Portofino love. It’s my warm weather “doesn’t require thought” scent.
Shalimar dusting powder and a spray of Shalimar ode a la vanille
How do you guys wear your dusting powder?
chanel nude lipstick and a non green smoothie 😉
You smell lovely, look great and have a yummy breakfast.
I wear dusting powder (when I wear dusting powder) on my thighs- they chafe, and dusting powder helps A LOT. Also, in the brassiere.
Oh yes, thighs and in my bra are two of the ways I use dusting powder.
I wear dusting powder quite a bit in the summer especially after an evening shower. I don’t have a/c – mostly we don’t need it here – but on those humid days, it always makes me feel lovely. I occasionally wear dusting powder in the fall in winter. I really enjoy them! I also have the Shalimar dusting powder, and it is the creamiest finest milled powder I have ever touched. The only one that comes close to that texture is the No 5 dusting powder.
Where do you apply it,? I do neck, chest and back of the knees..
I use it as Ede97005 does, and in the summer the neck, back of knees and inner elbows as well. Yardley Iris talc has been a blessing in the heat.
i will try that one
Back of the neck especially, throat, cleavage, inside elbows, wrists, lower back.
I don’t wear dusting powder, so no advice, but I bet you smell fabulous!
lovely combination!
That all sounds lovely!
I’m in 24 Faubourg today. It’s hitting the spot today because I’d been wearing much lighter scents lately.
Since I started doling out samples in small batches to use up I’ve actually gone through a LOT of them. I finished 24 Faubourg today, some Raw Spirit sample I had yesterday is done (no idea which one it was – it didn’t say, but I dumped the whole dabber vial on me and it still disappeared inside of an hour), and emptied a mini of EL Pleasures Saturday.
There’s something very satisfying about finishing a sample. Not that I didn’t like the samples because most of them are ones I wanted to try and really liked. I have notes on the ones that really impressed me in case I ever want to go back and try them again. I used to feel very anxious about finishing samples and still do to a degree – that Ormonde Woman sample is dangerously low – but for scents I’m not in love with it’s ok to say, “well that was a nice one” and move on.
I’m torn between contemplating my samples and thinking “Ahhh, riches!” and thinking “Good lord, I need to do some housekeeping.” Setting out a batch to use sounds like a good idea.
Both of those are valid responses!
I have a small box I put all my samples in that I want to use up. Since it’s in summer I’m using up the “lighter” or “summery” samples and now I’m dangerously close to the: if there’s a really warm day this could be a really BAD idea samples. Basically, ones that would do better in cooler weather. BUT I’m not going to be so bad as force myself to wear an off season just to be done with the sample.
I find it satisfying too! Though sometimes I use it as justification to finally buy the bottle…..
That’s what I have to be really careful about! The idea is to pare down and “curate” my collection. Not make it even bigger!
I’m inspired to start attacking my sample cup again. Courage!
Sacrebleu for me today.
I’ll be in Philadelphia this week and if anyone would like to get together let me know. My guy will be attending a conference so I’ll be free daytimes Wed, Thurs and Fri. My screen name is my yahoo address
Bookworm is home from summer classes! We’ve got her for a week before she has to go back. Band camp is over and the boys start school on Friday.
I hate August.
SOTD is glorious Silences pdt.
Friday?? That is just appallingly early.
Hope you get to enjoy some good family this week before that starts.
It is really early. But the school board switched over to this new calendar last year, and the kids were finished with fall semester before Christmas break – no “get back to school January 2 and take exams after three weeks off” disasters. I had friends back in the day who didn’t crack a book over the holidays, and failed their exams.
We’ll also be holding graduation ceremonies the last week of May, unless we have a very snowy winter. My SIL’s kids in Northern Virginia won’t start school until after Labor Day, but they won’t be finished with the year until the end of June.
School starts in about three weeks for us too. It makes me sad because the pool gets closed on Labor Day weekend. Summer will be over soon and I will miss it!
I hate summer anyway. 😛 But I wish we’d had more time to hang out with the college girl.
Speaking of Silences, where are the neighbour’s donkeys now?
Enjoy your family time!
SOTD- Assam of India
TORW- Sarabecca Day
TOLW- Sarabecca Night
Both smell similar and are lovely for naturals but fleeting (and thank you to my perfume fairy, H!)
I am seriously considering a blind buy of Assam of India after hearing how much you enjoy it.
Would you say it is best suited for summer??
i would highly recommend that you get a sample first…I bought my Berdoues samples at smallflower.com. They were only three dollars a piece and free shipping! I bought Assam of India blind based on reviews and that adorable bottle as well as the notes (lemon, black assam tea and MYSORE sandalwood)….lucky for me I am loving it but in case you don’t sampling is always best…there is something about it that reminds me of my beloved summer scents before they were reformulated (O de Lancolme, Cristalle, eau d”Hadrien) so yes, I see it as a summer scent….and I am wearing it daily because I am still following Angela’s challenge of wearing the same perfume until you finish the bottle!
Thanks for the tip about smallflower.com. I had never heard of them but they really have an excellent selection.
I know, right? And I think if you sign up for their newsletter you get 10% off your first purchase…at least that was the case last month 🙂
Background Jil Sander, one of those obscure early’90s scents hardly anyone remembers.
Heliotrope, balsamic woods – a barbershop talcum powder to clean your neck after a cut.
Really aromatic.
🙂
Never even heard of it — Jil Sander never had much of a retail presence in Canada, although I did own the ultra-sweet-tobacco Feeling Man back in the day — but on reading the notes it sounds like the sort of thing I would have loved.
I would have never either.
But 20 years ago I worked near an outlet mall that had 20!!! different! !! perfume stores!
Went to a different one every lunch hour. Great for my waistline, my credit card- not so much. LOL. 😀
I would have spent literally every cent I owned there.
Is it the No. 4, or another Jil Sander? I wore No. 4 as a signature scent for at least 10 years (before falling down the rabbit hole, obviously).
It is named Background.
Search on the Parfumo website. I can’t figure how to copy the link on my phone.
LOL. 😉
I guess I am “hardly anyone” 🙂 for I DO remember it! You smell great, Bear!!!!!!!!!!
Hey chocolatemarzipan!
I’m hardly anyone too ! LOL
A good club to be in ! 🙂
It sounds really nice! I remember seeing a lot of Jill Sander fragrances in Nordstrom Rack back in the 90s….
Hey, I remember.
Good !
Glad other people remember it !
🙂
background is SO GOOD!! I sold a LOT of it when I started working in a perfumestore.
About thirty years ago.
Sigh..:)
Vanille Galante, butched up with Poivre Samarcande (which I find really boring on its own, but great to layer with other Hermessences).
Received a few sample of Poivre just yesterday from my mom. Kind of a *meh* scent to my noise as well.
The fun part, however, is that she received these samples from a good friend who one a trip to Paris to tour Hermes — wow! She answered a question on FB via Hermes and was selected as the winner. Crazy!
She got tons of fun stuff from the tour. Can you imagine???
*won* a trip.. woo-hoo
Oh dear – I’ve been feeling vaguely queasy, but not certain if I perhaps have the flu or my feelings about August are making me uneasy or I’m overwhelmed by stuff I have to do. Anyway, I made the mistake of pulling out my gifted sample of Dusita’s Oudh Infini and it’s well, quite fecal at the moment. Oh well, perhaps it’s appropriate? I feel like s**t and I smell like it, too. 😉
Hahahahaha! Feel better and you smell sh*tty if that is what you are going for .. ????
Oh yikes! Feel better…wish I could send you through the internet some of my biodynamic organic ginger tea from the Republic of Tea…that would definitely help your queasiness…..
Oh, Holly, I’m so sorry for having laughed out loud – I’m of course sorry that you’re feeling fecal.
If I always felt the way I’d smell, it would not be a good thing. I hope your day gets better!
Feel better, Holly.
Yikes! Hope it’s not making you feel worse. That’s the one from the line I’ve been most curious about, but maybe nit so eager now. I had that experience with Xerjoff Oud Stars Al Khatt. Smelled sh**ty, but ince it settled down, it was oddly alluring.
Sorry about your awful day! Here’s a smelly story that might be worth a smile:
I have a foaming hand soap bottle in the bathroom to encourage the kids to wash their hands often and well. They get a kick out of the shaving cream-like foam. I fill the foaming bottle with water plus liquid soap.
Last week I bought a bottle of Method Botanical Garden hand soap because it smelled pretty when I sniffed it in the store. HOWEVER, when I watered down Botanical Garden for the foaming soap bottle it comes out smelling like dirty diaper. That is, ahem, the exact opposite of what I wanted.
Hand soap foam fail.
Ha ha! It’s amazing how many things smell like breastfed-baby poop to me, now that I’ve indelibly memorized *that* scent!
Your last sentence made me lol! Hope you feel better!
????????
Oh my. I hope you’re feeling better!
Bois des Iles for back to work Monday. Fabulous but fleeting indeed.
FAB!
Back from another lost long weekend of work. Slept ’til 10am (!) and now feeling Fresh and Fruity! Off to run errands and possibly a bit of clothes shopping wearing my beloved PHI on a steamy sweaty day in swamps.
Hope all my fellow NSTer’s have a great beginning to the week ????
Oops! This was supposed to be a separate post, but you smell fab! Box of Eels, how I miss them!
Twins! I put it on for our car ride to the Cape (about two hours), and will be happy if it lasts that long. Love it, though :-).
Oh, yes. BdI doesn’t last on me either, but it’s wonderful.
You do smell great! That one lasts all day on me, so it always surprises me when people talk about how fleeting it is. Huh.
You smelt gorgeous! 🙂
SOTD is Maria Candida Gentile “Syconium”, the 3rd of the ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’ sub-collection. I do get fig from it – a lot of people apparently don’t, finding it instead a milky honeyed sandalwood. It’s not desperately fleeting but not great longevity either, and for my money not quite fabulous enough to qualify for the community project.
Speaking of which, I am not *intending* to participate in Friday’s “fabulous but fleeting” project, because I’m spending the week in samples that are new to me. But with my skin I’d be surprised if I don’t inadvertently participate at random points of the week. I have lined up some Linari scents for the daytime and (if they falter) I have some Montale 1ml decants on standby for evening wear.
Here in Malaga it’s another sunny day with temperatures in the high 20s C. My partner is off exploring some part of town we haven’t been to before, and my friend and his kids have gone to the Pompidou Centre, so at last people are doing their own thing! (I am working so not going anywhere with any of ’em).
It will be nice to hear about those scents that can last a longish time (and time is so relative when it comes to scent, I think)
Syconium was my favorite of the trio, and liked it enough to get the 15ml bottle. I get a lot if sandalwood from that one, but do get some juicy, honeyed fig for about 45 min, which is what sold me on it.
I’m wearing Boxeuses and loving it. Good for this slightly autumn-y summer day.
I need to try this on at Barney’s.
How does it rate for you among other leathers?
Top 5, probably. Not quite Cuir de Russie level, but nothing is, really. It’s sweeter, so keep that in mind, but beautiful for autumn.
APOM Pour Homme (MFK). Getting a lot of mileage out of the sample obtained recently.
SOTD is YSL Cinema – soft and amber-y. Nice for the cool sprinkly day we’re having so far.
Interesting, I definitely get soft out of it too, but more mimosa. Must revisit.
SOTD shaal nur with a spray of Assam on my feet.
the Assam I have been wearing for over six weeks? you smell great!
Good Morning Y’all! School is back in session, and my 3 kids and teacher hubby are back to routine….Sigh.
SOTD: ELdO’s Fils de Dieu. One of my favorites!
delicious! (the perfume….NOT going back to school :(!!!)
How fleeting is that on you? It is one of the few candidates I have for the Friday project and curious how others fare with it.
This one sticks around for me for a few hours, before a slow fade. I applied at 9am, and 2 hours later it’s going strong….
You do smell excellent! It lasts pretty well on me, too, but I spray that one pretty lavishly.
I can’t get over how early they are starting kids in school these days.
SCENT TWINS! I haven’t worn it enough this summer.
I’m so jealous of the school districts that go back early.
Heure Exquise today–not usually a warm weather scent, but it’s working. And this older formulation (mid 2000s?) has staying power.
Nice! HE is so beautiful!
Perfection imho.
Mmm.
I wore HE this weekend…..after finally buying a bottle!
SOTD is vintage No 19 edt. It’s from an older “refill” bottle that Chanel used to do. The nozzle gets all leaky but I am not disappointed to get drenched in the stuff.
Wow- I did not know that Chanel did refill bottles for the perfumes! and you smell lovely- and will until tomorrow, it seems! 🙂
They used to do refils for all their pillar fragrances until about 10 years ago? You could pop fresh bottles into them. They still make the travel refils for their extrait.
Was it the muted silver rectangle bottle with a gold rim and the Chanel logo on the cap? I had that one as well as the white one for no 22 and the black one for no 5….I also had a thinner longer refill black for the original Coco (when it first came out)…sadly I only saved my no 22 refill bottle and sniff it from time to time…bought that back in the day when it was not an exclusive and SO ridiculously affordable….
I have a Coco edp refil bottle too….
The refill bottle for the silver case? I have some in that packaging too. Good stuff.
Yes – the silver bottle. It is really good stuff and I am lucky to have it!
Almost scent twins. I’m wearing Chanel No. 19 EDT, but from a bottle I bought two years ago.
I’m wearing Knot today, after considering Marni. Maybe I’ll wear Marni tomorrow.
I love both of these, u smell lovely.
Hey twin 😉
I’ve not worn this in a while. There’s an association I can’t figure out but it doesn’t get the same love as when I first purchased.
Happy Monday!
Grey and rainy today. For some reason I thought It would an EXCELLENT idea to do a blow out on my hair today. On a rainy day! But hey, I must say, it looks great and survived the commute (I wore an old fashioned head scarf on top.)
SOTD: Chanel 5 eau premiere. It’s just right for a grey, rainy day.
OOTD: Navy Blue t shirt, white trousers, blue suede sneakers and navy blue cardigan.
Scent twins. We smell wonderful!
What kind of mileage do you both get out of Premiere pls?
I just bought a bottle of the original formulation in the tall bottle and I love it! but alas it is fabulous but fleeting like Friday’s theme. I have been spraying the crap out of it 😉 when I wear it but the sillage is soft and while I can smell it several hours later it is fairly faint. Perhaps it will do better when the weather turns cooler…
I have had it on for about 9 hours so far and I can still smell it fairly well. Just one spray to each wrist and one to my neck.
That is a good stretch…thanks!
I have the newer formulation in the classic shaped bottle. For me, it lasts a good 8+ hours, turning gradually into a fresh yet warm skin scent. I get a final blast when I take my evening shower! 🙂
I am tempted to get the current formula too. I sprayed it at a Sephora a week or two ago and it was lovely too.
Masque Milano L’Attesa, which I was interested in because of its champagne accord, but at the moment am mostly getting iris. Funny thing is that historically, while I like the scent of real iris, I’ve thought iris scents were woefully joyless. I actually like this, though, which is a nice surprise.
I was talking with the Colognoisseur about this one and he was talking about the yeasty quality it has, and then that was all I was able to get from it. I’m so easily distracted! Must smell again.
Hm, maybe the reason this is working for me is because yeast is one of my favorite kitchen scents
Champagne and iris sounds PERFECT! And I have a nagging suspicion I might have a sample of this lying around somewhere. Too many samples…
Champagne and anything sounds perfect…
I get mostly iris too. That and citrus.
Ooh this one intrigues me even more, now!
I sent an email to Masque Milano to see if they send their sample set to Canada, and they were like, “eh…”
I am pretty sure Twisted Lily will send them, Luckyscent too.
We’re twins today Robin, soft skin and smelling great!
Hey twin! Exactly.
Hello NSTers. Started the day in Memoir Woman, then passed a Jo Malone shop and on a whim tried Velvet Oud and Rose on my left hand and Blackberry and Bay on my right. They are both nice but I can Blackberry and Bay being glorious in early autumn.
Blackberry and Bay might be my favorite JM.
I agree. And as Sophie says, it’s wonderful in September.
Velvet Rose and Oud is very pretty, but probably far from unique.
Fighting a summer cold, I think, so SOTD is Roses de Chloe. It’s light and pleasant, and I know how much to spray for the best effect, since I can’t really smell it properly. Every so often, I turn my head or move my arm and catch a faint hint of rose, but that’s about it.
Feel better soon!
Hope you will head it off!
I think I’ll do a whole week of fleeting scents, seeing as I have plenty of those (looking at you, Monsieur Ellena; also Acqua di Parma; and Guerlain AA’s; and…)
SOTD is Un Jardin Mediterranee. Will it last longer than my commute? Well if it doesn’t, I have an adorable mini of it at work, so I can top up as needed.
I’m wearing Iris Poudre this morning–according to my records, I haven’t touched it in more than a year. I don’t know why, it’s lovely.
I love that you have records ???? That made me laugh (with you, not at you). That’s all of my Malle perfumes. I haven’t worn any of them in a long time, but they’re all so lovely when I smell them.
Love Iris Poudre! It always seems to make me happy.
Scent twins – had planned to do a sniff-off with Ferre on the other arm, but spritzed too fast.
I was thinking it would be neat if someone developed a scent diary app where you could track what you wear, buy, etc.. on your phone. It could also have social media functions.
Being that I use my phone for most everything this would make it nice and easy.
The Fragrantica website has most of those functions. Not sure how readily it would all load on a smart phone, but it’s worth checking out.
The Basenotes wardrobe function is great. You enter your collection, including samples, and record your scent(s) of the day, then you can easily see when you wore something last, how often you wore it over the last month/ year etc.
SOTD is TF Noir Pour Femme. Today I am getting a lot of vanilla in this and am trying to remember what I wore yesterday…?
You smell fab! I love “accidental layering” from yesterday’s fragrance. And vanilla. 🙂
🙂 yesterday I think it was TF Tobacco Vanille, which would make sense…
SotD = Vanille Galante, also wore it yesterday evening. Fleeting but fabulous is my fragrance happy place. 😀
“Happiness happens!” is a great motto for a Monday morning. I think I’ll make pink lemonade today.
Vanille Galante is one of my make-happiness-happen perfumes! You smell great!
A damp, rainy morning in Charlotte. With temps in the upper 70s, if I run the A/C to dry out the house, it seems too cool. First world problems, I guess.
Wearing Sycomore, seems perfect for the weather.
Was up at 6 making watermelon rind pickles, yes, in the humidity. Dumb move, took forever.
Never heard of watermelon rind pickles, but I’m attracted to the idea. Is it the actual skin and rind you use after the flesh of the melon is eaten? Seems like a no brainier considering the name, but having a hard time picturing it…
My grandmother adored them, and she’d put up a batch every summer. She always pared away the rind, and would pickle the white part of the melon that you don’t eat.
Yes, my Nana used to make them. Just the white, basically a vehicle for sugar, vinegar and spices. Likely a depression era recipe.
Do I recall you having chickens, Deva? The pickling websites mentioned that this recipe would deprive peoples’ chickens of their favorite treat, watermelon rinds.
I love watermelon rind pickles. My great-aunt made them with ginger and star anise.
Ditto – my mom used to make them when I was a kid. It’s really one of the few classic pickled foods that I actually enjoy eating.
I have never heard of watermelon rind pickles, but it sounds like a great idea. I’m intrigued. Is the pickling flavor like sweet pickles or something else?
Yes, sweet and spicy, similar to pickled peaches. I used cinnamon chips, whole cloves, allspice berries, sliced ginger root and a sliced lemon.
Sycomore is always perfect in rainy weather.
Back to the grind after an all-to-fleeting, but fabulous, vacation.
SOTD: Tauer Une Rose Chypree.
Vacations are never long enough. Welcome back ????
Thanks! True dat. The only recourse is to start planning the next one, right? Your upcoming trip sounds fab. My husband went to Ireland solo and covered 20 miles a day on a bike(when he was a young’n).
I love that one, you smell fabulous.
Thanks Gi!
You smell great.
I’m liking it, so far. It’s a newly acquired sample. Probably more of a Fall scent, though.
Wearing Alaïa today which I never got around to sampling…
It is good stuff…interesting…not really summer fare but I am tired of light citrus colognes. Both Robin and LT liked it and now me three. 😉
Very different kind of scent, isn’t it?
Yep, a changeling of sorts. I daresay I would call it a fresh oriental if such a thing exists. I am still enjoying it!
Very nice!
It is and cheap on evilBay too…as luck would have it… 😉
You smell great. (Thanks to the lovely Petunia, I was able to sample and confirm I like it, too.) It’s on my to-buy list.
Premier Figurier Extreme for me. I wonder how it compares to Premier Figurier regular, don’t remember ever trying it.
Jour d’hermes Absolu, such a good one for Monday mornings, that fruity grapefruit opening is so cheerful and uplifting.
Now it’s faded, I’ve reapplied with knot, as I’ve just been reminded of it, it’s very pretty green orange blossom and lavender.
Jour Absolue is really lovely. For me it’s a radiant floral, with a gardenia drydown that’s photo-realistic and lasts forever. No other standard drydown notes are apparent.
I haven’t yet smelled the Jour Gardenia. Maybe it’s all gardenia on the top with a different drydown?
My “fabulous but fleeting” SOTD is Cristalle – since all of my Chanels can be categorized that way (except for Coco) it will probably be Chanel week for me as well.
I forgot to add Egoiste to my exceptions – haven’t worn it since the winter but I seem to recall it lasting pretty well.
Chanel week sounds good.
Maybe more like Chanel weak… 😉
Good one!
Completely agree. ????
I’m right there with you! Maybe I’ll make it a Cristalle and No 19 week b/c of the summery heat!
😛 Like!
I can easily do a week of Chanel. All Les Exclusifs are very fleeting. I will be wearing No.28 La Pausa on Friday. It is so gorgeous but the worst scent ever in terms on longevity and sillage.
I agree. I was thinking about wearing Misia on Friday. I love that one too, but longevity is not longer than a few hours on me.
Misia is so lovely, but I have to bath myself on it in order to enjoy it at least one hour. No 18 is amazing but the result is the same.
La Pausa is the most frustrating of all to me. I honestly can only smell it en route from sprayer to wrist and then poof it is gone. Beautiful as can be for one second.
The same with me. I enjoy it for the few second I take spraying it on me. After that it dissapears completely. It is very painful because I really love it. Not even talk about Bel Respiro and 31 Rue Cambon. I am so frustrated with all Les Exclusifs.
Count me in with the others loving the vintage postcards!
SOTD is a top-up of Mitsouko, since I could still detect traces from last night’s spritz.
Glad to hear it!
Just finished up my shift at work and wearing the extreme dry down of Tonka Imperial. I really want to wear Orange Star again but I have a dentist appointment and I am going to wait until afterwards to wear it. I want to know if this busted tooth needs to be pulled or not. I am hoping that they can just fill it and it won’t be more than $100 today.
SOTD is SL A la Nuit. I adore it, but it is very fleeting on me. I had 6 spritz this morning and one hour later was gone. I reapplied again 2 hours ago and gone it is…
It is so gorgeous but so fleeting on me too! Such a shame.
SOTD is Nutmeg & Ginger by Jo Malone
Greetings and salutations, one and all. I’m doing a whopping great dither: should I wear….would that be….I really like…no, no that! The melancholy truth is that I have too many perfumes, too much choice. I’m spoilt, in fact. Sigh. Oh well, never mind, it’s happened; best get on with it by wearing….Black Cashmere! Ahhhh. Good decision. Warm, enveloping, softly assertive. I shall consider the troubles of my inner Waterdragon later. For now, it’s work time.
Black Cashmere is always a perfect choice; you smell fantastic. I can’t wait to be able to wear it again, myself, when it gets cool here!
Hello, all! I’m back from a weekend getaway that’s left our whole little family feeling like we really need a weekend in order to recover from our weekend. Still, it was nice to get out of town and have a mini-adventure. Feeling sort of yeckky today — sleep deprived and dizzy and sad around the edges, so perfume hasn’t really sounded appealing. I do have something very fragrant going on with my hair, though, a sample of some styling product that smells like Easter jellybeans.
Kind of how I felt coming back from our little trip. I hope things smooth out and jellybean scented hair sounds cheery, at least.
Commando and will likely stay as such. I flew in to NJ this morning on the red-eye from Portland. Thank goodness I took the day off today but it won’t look pretty tomorrow and I have to be at my A++ game! My time in Portland was everything I expected it to be and then some. In the perfume news front, I met up with AnnE and ede97005 and we had a fabulous time sniffing up a storm at Fumerie Parfumerie! I have confessions galore to make to Donatella when the time comes :-).
Fun! So interesting to have this little community around the country and world to connect with.
I’d like to visit Portland and that region in general some day soon.
Glad it was such a fab time.
Fun! Can’t wait to hear what you got. Looks like they have a nice selection there.
‘Sniffing up a storm’ with fellow perfume lovers sounds like an excellent time!
Wow, can’t wait to hear about it! I want to get to FP some day.
No scent during the day since I was out and about swimming at the lake today. But a spritz of Sorrel and thyme for bed now. It’s definitely fabulous but fleeting on me.
I’m wearing weather inappropriate Casmir again. I’m trying to decide if it is too close to Nirvana Bourbon to justify having both. NB is definitely more smoky.
I think they’re alike in that they’re both primarily vanilla fragrances, but I think they have enough differences. Casmir has an almost coconutty vibe to me and is pretty sweet and heavy. The Bourbon smells less sweet and is more about woods and a bit of incense-smells more in line with Atelier Vanille Incensee or Diptyque Eau Duelle. It doesn’t really remind me of Casmir all that much. Rollerball, maybe? I didn’t see any of those yet, but might be tempted if they make them.
Thanks for the reply. You’re absolutely right in your description. It’s just that vanilla is one of my favorite fragrance notes, and I worry that I duplicate a lot. So, I am trying to be more conscious of similarities.
SOTD = Tauer Rose Delight – wish the scent was longer-lasting (only lasts about an hour on my skin), though the scent is superb and the oil feels lovely
Hello everybody! I’m back from Hawaii, and still sore from the Spartan Race! Also, I am now engaged!!!
Thought I should post about my tropical vacation fragrances:
Lush Lust – wonderful jasmine, bloomed in the humidity wonderfully though I still caution discretion when spraying this indole bomb
Lush Sikkim Girls – also worked wonderfully in the humidity, though the incense felt like too much…
Calvin Klein Reveal – lovely woodsy amber fruity comfort skin scent that oddly enough gets stronger after 4 hours
Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise (vintage parfum mini) – wowza this floral is quite something! Well blended – the only note I was able to parse out was incense (perhaps the humidity amplifies incense on my skin?). Thank you to whomever reminded me to bring it!
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess (shimmer oil spray) – sprayed often and with abandon, this was the perfect beach scent. Highly recommend!
Comme des Garcons Champaca – a pretty, but still interesting and well-done, soliflore. Also good longevity.
Givenchy Organza – wore this as my evening scent and it was perfect. An incredibly rich floriental, though the vanilla smooths everything out and makes it very easy to wear. Highly recommend sniffing if you haven’t already!
Hawaiian Gardenia – widely available in Oahu
Awww! Congrats!! Did we know this was coming? Sounds like a wonderful trip, and a fragrant one. And you smell great today, or for an hour! I must have scent retaining skin because that oil lasts almost all day on me.
Whoops! Congrats to you from me are below. 😉
Congratulations on your news. What a great hoiday.
Congratulations! Sounds like a perfect trip!
Lovely, congrats!
Congratulations!
You did one of those Spartan Race things!? Wow! Just thinking about it makes me hurt!
Congratulations, SS! And just the name “Spartan Race” makes me wince.
Congratulations! Sounds like a wonderful vacation. You’re right about Organza being great for evening, I took it along on my honeymoon. It was perfect.
Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!
Congratulations on your triumphant return from Hawaii. Good news on all fronts! And you smell(ed) fabulous. 🙂
Meant for you, SublimiSomnium. And I enjoyed your list of fabulous vacation fragrances.
Congrats to SS on your engagement! I wore JM Orris and Sandalwood, which I purchased today. 🙂
