It's Monday again, and the last one in July...the summer is going quickly! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm tired after being woken by an impressive thunderstorm very early this morning. Luckily we did not get hail again, as we did on Saturday afternoon. I'm waking up with Krizia Uomo, lightly applied (we're expecting another scorcher here today).
Reminder: on 7/29, we're doing Huesday on Friday — wear a fragrance inspired by Limpet Shell and/or Peach Echo, colors from Pantone's Spring/Summer 2016 collection. You can find the image and color descriptions here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Just back from a nice family vacation.
Palimpsest by Aftelier..
Tea is Earl Grey
Hope everyone is having a great summer.
I put away my phone, and it was nice to be away from social media and I am thinking of doing that for the rest of the summer. Lets see.
I was away from social media for a week and it was the best thing I´ve done in years!
Palimpsest and Earl Grey sound perfectly comforting on a Monday morning. Hope your re-entry into post-vacay life goes well. 🙂
I think it’s good to unplug once in a while. I think I’ll try that for my vacation next week. I’ll see how long I can last.
Glad you enjoyed your vacation!
My vacation was hot hot hot as we were in the south-but it was a lot of fun and the best temperature was at the beach near the water.
I drained my 5ml sample of Shangri La on vacation and was sad to throw the atomizer away.
Vacations are the BEST! Hope you are feeling recharged????
Those are always the best times, when you can and do actually disconnect from the outside world. Sounds like a perfect vacation.
I am with you on that idea….I , too, remove myself from the internet from time to time 🙂
Welcome back. Glad you had a relaxing trip.
Pampliset is very pretty. I have just got a sample and am truly enjoying it. Wallet be ware
Happy Monday! My sick little one is finally well and headed back to camp! After days of blistering heat, it’s going to be just plain ol’ hot, so that is encouraging. SOTD is Chanel Eau Premier.
Good news!
Glad the little one is better. It is blistering today.
You smell great.
Morning Y’all! Another HOT and HUMID one straight ahead!
SOTD: Lancome O d’Azur.
Smelly news: Totally caved to 2 impulse purchases at Marshalls: Lady Gaga Fame for $7.99, and J Lo Glowing for $7.99. Neither was needed in the least….but they are fun…..LOL!
I don’t care how many bad reviews it got, I thought Lady Gaga Fame was SUPER fun. Nothing remotely out of the ordinary but the packaging is tops and everybody needs a few cheap-and-cheerful scents in their arsenal. And $7.99 is basically free.
Is Glowing the one in the light-up bottle? Another triumph of packaging. At that price I might have bought it myself, just for that bottle.
The Glowing is the 30ml size, so NO light up! Boo hoo! LOL Perfectly wearable scent; I’ll definitely use it from time to time.
Agree! Fame is nothing to write home about, but not bad at all. The black juice is fun too. I’ve picked it up to buy SO MANY times, and finally gave in this weekend! 🙂
WOW! What good deals! Marshalls is always fun for finding wonderful things at an unexpected discount!
Traveled to Michigan last night
Hot and sticky
Packed vetiver tonka samples
So that’s it for 4 days but I think I will go to Nordstrom here tonite which should get my a couple of samples
Good luck at Nordstrom!
That’s a great one to go steady with. Maine it’s time for a travel size? ????
Guerlain’s Cologne Imperiale, sprayed generously from head to toe. I wonder why I tend to go through bottles of this quickly!
Stay cool everyone…it’s dangerous out there today!
It’s meant to go quickly, so you’re just bowing to the inevitable. Plus you smell good.
Hum, that’s the delicious way to do it!
I’m trying Muguet Porcelaine today. The opening 30 minutes shocked me – I was not expecting a massive melon blast. I was quite relieved when the top notes wore off and I no longer smelled like an overripe cantaloupe. Stupid fruit amplifying skin – I bet this is lovely on everyone else.
Stay cool!
Skin chemistry is mystifying. I get just a few seconds of faint melon from Muguet Porcelaine then it turns all green and white lily of the valley. I wonder how it smells to people around me. Now I’m curious. I need to wear a dab of my sample and have lots of other people smell it and tell me what they smell.
Nope, not lovely on me either. That opening was such a turn off.
Hi!
Bought Yves Rocher Cuir de Vetiver for 15 euros, it is lovely. But today I am wearing the rest of a perfume my mom gave me (we have a deal and she always gives me the bottles of perfumes when they are almost finished!), Neroli also by Yves Rocher and it is a dissapointment after Cuir…
Have a wonderful week.
Yeah for mom! I like that deal 😉
Yep, next bottle is Lancome Une Rose…
SOTD is Malle Eau de Magnolia. Love love love this stuff.
Ooh you smell good. I really should get at least a small sprayer of that.
It really is a wonderful scent, especially for summer.
So humid today. Wearing Le Labo Iris 39. The jet fuel opening seems particularly prominent and longer lasting this morning.
I could use some jet fuel this morning, I am moving at turtle speed
Ha! Me too. It feels soupy outside. More coffee!!
Stay cool! ✌????️
You too!
Jet fuel.. ha! Kind of like that smell.
Yeah, I really want to be out there running, but after going out Sat. for a 7pm run (thinking the later, the cooler) and seeing my face a shade red that’s not normal, I think I’m going to have to dust off the DVD and do some inside exercise.
The subway platform yesterday was brutal.
I don’t know how you run in this weather. I can’t even bring myself to go to the gym, which is air conditioned.
Ditto.
And BTW, I love the HDP Ambre 114! I’ve been wearing it for the past few nights.
Oh good! Yeah, it’s a beauty. Not a scent I’d figure one to wear in the summer, but… if you’re in AC!
We spent much of the day Sat inside. I was out briefly and then later to a late afternoon movie. I seem to find the evenings worse…maybe it is the rise in humidity. Same thing yesterday…i was more uncomfortable later in the evening than earlier.
Saturday was brutal. But we went out to Long Island to the beach. It was a good 10 degrees cooler.
Portrait of a Lady today. I finally figured out that that first initial medicinal blast is camphor. Love it right at the point where the rose overtakes the camphor.
L’Artisan Safran Troublant. A golden glow. Sunshine in a bottle.
You smell great today, Robin. Krizia Uomo is one of the very, very few bottles I’ve ever drained; it’s so strange and so amazing. I never did replace that bottle but I have eight or ten manufacturer’s samples from about twenty years ago so I figure I’m covered for the foreseeable future.
It is shockingly cheap, too! Wonder if it’s even still in production, I would guess not.
I see it on Amazon.
Oh I know it can still be bought! What I meant is whether or not they’re still planning to make more when the amount hanging around on the market runs out.
But should have said — thanks!
Wearing Ninfeo Mio, courtesy of a very generous perfume fairy here. Such a balanced, nice “faux cologne”, and long lasting too. The fact that it opens with tart realistic citrus and then goes all figgy, woody, a bit creamy and slightly bitter makes it such a no brainer. Great stuff, it’s improving my Monday.
Have a wonderful week!
I love that one too. It lasts quite a long while for me as well, but I think many complain that it’s quite fleeting. I guess it’s all about the skin you’re in ????
Such a lovely perfume and you put it perfectly, faux cologne is a wonderful summary of it.
This is a beautiful scent. The lavender sometimes gives me a headache, so I can’t over spray on this one.
Smell Bent’s The Yard Next Door. It was a little screechy with a sharp, bitter tomato leaf/eucalyptus/dandelion opening and I was waiting for that to settle down a bit. Which it did…but sadly all I’m getting now is a little chocolatey dirt and a lot of musk. mals had mentioned this musky drydown being an issue for her with Smell Bent, and it’s turned out to be so for me as well. Brussels Sprouted, Pepper Ylang and this one all have the same trajectory, but Green Patchouli, Prairie Nymph and Florist’s Fridge are winners.
I saw tomato leaf and my nose perked up! sorry it turned musky on you 🙁
Funny story….I spent the weekend with the nieces and one said to the other “What’s that smell?” to which the older one replied while glancing at me “Her and her hippie perfume!” I was wearing the sample of Chypre Mousse you graciously sent me-LOL! To me it smells like nostalgia..something I would have worn forty years ago 🙂 !!!
I will happily continue to contribute to your hippie perfume collection! It’s quite possible you might like The Yard Next Door – I’ll set it aside for your next package.
thank you, my dear!
Cute! Though I don’t think “hippie”with Chypre Mousse. I do love that one!
I spent all weekend wearing Remarkable People (which grew on me in kind of an inexplicable way) and was still in an ELDO mood, so I went with Bijou Romantique. In this weather, though, I think I need to start exploring colognes.
SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne. Perfectly refreshing and undemanding, it is what it is without pretense or guile. Love it.
Sheesh, can we be finished with the hot weather? I will order a bottle of Eau de Guerlain today to bolster my warm weather scent choices.
Like Lovestosmellgood I’m just back from a big family trip, our week-long annual retreat at the beach with cousings and grandparents. Vacation is wonderful. So is returning to a clean house and being reunited with our little menagerie of birds and fish. Who would think goldfish would miss their people? They do. 😉
This year low tide coincided with my early morning walks along the shore. Some mornings I walked for more than two hours on deserted sand, with just the waves and birds and a few early surfers for company.
I love beachcombing, so I always carry a small bucket for treasures and a bag for trash. This trip was the year for lost eyewear. I found 31 pairs of sunglasses (all scratched beyond repair) plus five dive masks, one snorkel, and two pairs of swim goggles. I think the universe is sending me a message, maybe something about having a clear vision in life? In any event it felt nice to get that plastic out of the ocean.
Also fitting the ocean’s vision message for me, I found two Go Pro cameras on the shore, so this week our family summer project will be to find their owners.
I also visited the beach, I didn’t find any treasures though..
Glad you had a great time!
That sounds like a wonderful beach vacation- I need to take one soon!
Do it! The beach is best. 🙂
I will! I have had a very sad and busy year so far-and never mind the news! There is something so good and beautiful about the seashore, and Oregon sea shore is so deep and wild and lovely.
Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach is on my list for someday. Oregon beaches are amazing.
Those walks sound right up my alley, and kudos to you for cleaning up messes while you walk. The waters of the world are grateful ????
I feel the same way. A little clean up is an easy thing I can do for our beautiful beaches and oceans.
Plus I get my cardio as I walk, stretches as I pick things up, and some strength training as I carry a big bag of trash off the beach each morning.
I have a 100ml bottle of Eau de Guerlain that needs a new home. Interested? Ping me at emc dawt 7 1 1 7 in the land of geeeeemail.
Yes, I’m interested, Pixel, if someone hasn’t already asked. Beadling@gmail.com And let me know what you might be hankering for.
Oh! That’s wonderful, and thank you, but I’ve already ordered a bottle of Eau de Guerlain. 😀
Your trip sounds amazing. I’d love to be able to walk on a beach in the early mornings.
That’s really kind of you to find the Go Pro owners. It’s also amazing how much stuff gets left behind at the beach. Bravo for cleaning it up. Your thoughtfulness is inspiring.
A long walk on a quiet beach is my prozac.
The cameras had been out at sea for a long time before they washed up at my feet. Now that we are home we can take time to see if there is anything in them to link them to their owners. It feels like a solving a mystery, hopefully with a happy ending.
SOTD is Tauer’s Rose Delight body oil, unlayered, and it is great. Such a soft not sour nor sweet rose with a bit of depth, and on me it lasts already 7,5 hrs and going. Perfect office scent, although I work at home and can wear what I like. Thanks Robin for your recommendation I can only echo it!
Tauer’s Rose Delight oil is a winner. I wore it on Saturday with a few light sprays of Eau Sauve. You smell lovely today.
Yum. So good. I wore it a lot this weekend.
Wanted to buy it but they don´t ship to Spain, wonder why…
Probably customs issues.
I so can’t wait for mine to get here!
I was craving loud floral today so went with a hit of L’Instant de Guerlain . Almost four hours from 2 light sprays and I can still smell it. Happy Monday!
Ha! Loud floral is a fabulous fragrance category. 😀 You smell lovely.
Also, has anyone tried VC&A Bois de Iris? If so, what’s it like?
It’s lovely, and nearly a dead ringer for Dior Bois d’Argent.
I have and it’s lovey as pixel says. A sort of odd combination of Iris vanilla driftwood and yet comforting. Very elegant and thoughtful, I haven’t tried Bois D’Argent so can’t compare.
Thank you for your help! I’m thinking of ordering a sample.
If you don´t like vanilla, watch out…
hmmm. I don’t mind vanilla but not usually as a main player. Of course, there are always exceptions. I guess I like vanilla on a case-by-case basis. I saw a good deal at a discount site. Better get a sample first.
I generally don’t like vanilla but I do like Bois d’Argent / Bois d’Iris. YMMV
I always think of it as a very lovely, elegant and slightly gourmand iris. It’s a bit too polished for me, so I only wear it occasionally, but it’s good.
The forecast is for stinkin hot all week (yes, that’s an official meteorological term) so I’m doing Tea Week. SOTD is Le Labo The Noir which I am looooooooooooooving.
I agree with those meteorological terms.
You weren’t kidding, Robin. That storm last night was fierce. It knocked down a few branches in my neighborhood. As a result, I feel as If I’ve only gotten 2 hours of sleep.
It is utterly disgusting outside today.
Although I remembered to pack a sample in my purse for today, I totally forgot to put it on. Had a doc appt and had to get a lot of referrals and then last minute blood work done. Nothing scary is going on, need to get my ducks in a row *just in case*. I didn’t expect them to do the blood work but they were like: is that just black coffee? No food? Great! Have a seat… WHAT!!? I don’t do well with needles nor the sight of blood but I’ve somehow managed to make it into the office although I feel a bit woozy now. I did eat cherries before driving out, but I’m a total wussy so I guess I’m in “aftershock”.
Right, time to hit the reports! *face*desk*
Ugh, Manic Monday!
I hope you have plenty of cooling fruit and a relaxed pace!
Thanks. I’m just sitting for the rest of the day and had a large salad for lunch, so I should be ok.
We did not lose much vegetation here because the storm on Saturday had already knocked it all down. Did you get hail on Saturday?
And so sorry about your blood draw. Good luck making it through the day awake.
We didn’t get anything at all Saturday! I was really surprised. The husband and I went to the movies (new Star Trek) and when we left we saw all the huge, dark storm clouds, but it didn’t even rain. It all just passed over us, looking very ominous.
You are lucky! We lost power for a few hours, and had some general damage out in the vegetable garden.
Timbuktu layered with YR Neroli (or the other way around). Neroli sweetens the saffron and incense, and makes Timbuktu last longer, too. Nice combo. 🙂
I might have to join you in the tea land
SOTD is Rosae Mundi. First couple of times it was ‘meh’ and I was plotting how I can get rid of the decant. Now – it is love, so decant stays and the plotting now how to get a FB
I’ve been wanting to try RM too. I have a sample sitting in my cart but haven’t pulled the trigger.
L’Arbre de la Connaissance, a beautiful fig with (I am told) a sandalwood base note. It feels different to other figs I have tried and is perfect for summer.
That sounds so lovely, I’m going through a bit of a figgy love affair at the moment, acquiring small bottles of NM and philosykos, haven’t heard of this one tho, will look it up on fragrantica! I’ve just eaten a fresh fig from my garden with Greek yogurt and honey, really wonderful. The fig tree is planted against a shady fence, it was already well established when we moved in, but it does remarkably well, and gives us quite a few fruits.
today I’m wearing MPG Tubereuse layered with PG Tubereuse Couture
(I like the “raw-ness” of the MPG, but I need a little sweet so I add the PG…)
That seems like a good combo, although I’ve never tried the PG, I might do a similar thing with Vamp.
If only Annick Goutal Tubereuse hadn’t been discontinued, I could wear that one alone and it was perfection! All other tuberose’s aren’t quite perfect for me so I often need to layer two.
The PG is a very sweet tube, almost tropical, like ELPCTG — a couple years ago I thought of it as too sweet but layered with the MPG it’s just right.
I thought the PG was pretty sweet, too – almost sugary. Pretty, though.
I clearly need to try it. I love some of their gourmandish fragrances like Cozé and Felanilla.
I bought a bottle of Tubéreuse either this year or last year, and am very glad I did. It’s wonderful.
Happy Monday!
The mild summer we all have been enjoying came to sharp end. It was gloriously crisp and hot, and will continue to be so. Today, I am wearing a layer of Moringa body spray and then a spritz of Marc Jacobs Decadence(from a sample), which is not very decadent at all- it’s fruity, powdery and floral pretty. And if I was still in my 20s I would be all over this.
The mortgage brokerage now wants a ton of paperwork…some of which I swear I sent to them before??? ARGH.
OOTD: grey striped handkerchief tank tunic and crisp white pants, Sofft black sandals. Gold floral earrings.
I sometimes think all the frustration in buying a house is to make sure you have the sort of temperament required to maintain an house long term, LOL — I swear they tried to make me insane! Good luck, and stay calm, this too shall pass.
I’m wearing Byredo Oliver Peoples from a sample I picked up yesterday. It is absolutely delicious and I can’t stop smelling my wrist.
Summer is going by much too fast. 🙁
I’m wearing Rose Praline.
Geranium fans: I wrote an article on geranium scents that is live on Bois de Jasmin today!
Oh, must check out your article! I love geranium but have yet to find the right geranium scented fragrance.
I hope you find a few to try!
I use Mrs. Meyers Geranium too. I love it and that’s the geranium I want in a scent. The Miller option has been on my list ‘to try’. The others I’ve not had luck with, but the Diyptique is not a bad option.
Very interesting article!
We have the geranium room spray and hand soap in our bathroom. I love it.
+ 1 for Mrs Meyers. My favorite of all their scents
I read your fascinating article, Elisa. I’ve always loved the smell of rose geranium but knew nothing about its role in perfumes. Would have left a comment but for some reason my comments never connect with her site.
Oh, that’s strange! I’ll look into it
Yay! I can’t wait to read it. Love geranium.
Gr8!
I read it this morning and it was great…made me realize that geranium was completely not on my radar before. I’m going to have to resniff some of them to try and be aware this time 🙂
I’ve got on some Flowerbomb today, a scent I never would have worn in July when I lived in the Northeastern U.S.
Good morning all! Off today after working all weekend and finding it difficult to peruse the net as T-Rex is feeling slighted in the attention department. Every time I pick up my iPad, a paw mysteriously appears, followed by a cold wet nose, which nudges and bats at my hand, making surfing the net difficult. I think she’s trying to tell me my hand could be put to better use by petting and giving tummy rubs.
SOTD is in the process of being decided, although I’m leaning towards SL Un Bois Vanille since it’s a good woody vanilla to wear in the heat. It’s ungodly hot out there and I feel for all you folks who are not used to it. I think living on this dangling peninsula may be helping since we are surrounded on three side by open ocean. At least we get some sea breezes occasionally.
Stay in the A/C if at all possible, sip icy drinks, and wantonly spritz refreshing perfumes multiple times daily. That’s my recommendation ????
I’m wearing Narciso EDP today, my signature musk scent.
Trying to hold off on using the AC for as long as possible, but feeling the heat increase as the day goes on. And how did it get to be July 25th already?!? Summer is half over.. 🙁
You smell great!
Yesterday I sprayed myself with Waltz 14 from Tokyo Milk. It is cool and lingering and at the same time reminds me of a soap I had as a child. I imagine that the soap could have been made in post-war Japan and then I wondered if there could be a link between the old soap perfume and Waltz. Far fetched, yes, but who knows. I’ve loved Waltz for many years but am unfamiliar with any other TM perfumes. Does anyone have any comments about them? Thanks.
SOTD Waltz 14.
I’ve only tried the Dark series in recent years. I like some of them and own Bittersweet(the chocolate one). I think she does interesting note combos, but sometimes the drydowns seem a bit flat to me.
It’s heating up here in Portland and I’m wearing Jour d’Hermes. I have other citruses lined up for the remainder of the week. I crave them when temperatures are high. I might stick some in the refrigerator, too.
Wearing Essences Insensées 2015 aka the jasmine one…
I’m finishing off a sample but have a full bottle waiting in the wings as I didn’t want to be without this one.
I like jasmine but I would say this perfume doesn’t have the typical structure that usually appeals to me w/ fragrances.
Initially it’s strong, pronounced jasmine, pretty sweet upon the opening and I don’t get many different notes but something about it is quite magical to my nose. As it progresses and drys down…I can’t get enough of it.
The more senseless tragedies I see in the news…the more I turn to the calming refuge of perfume…
This is a beauty of a scent. I’ve got a bottle as well.
I asked about the 2016 version and they’re planning to announce/release in Sept. Not sure what the focus will be yet.
I wonder what it will be too…
Mimosa, Jasmine…?
I think an SA said rose, but don’t quote me.
Yes, rose de mai. And in a very different bottle.
It’s hot and muggy out and I am wearing vintage Jicky. I love Jicky in hot weather.
Sometimes I do too. You smell great!
I find it to be an undemanding skank in hot weather.
Undemanding skanks are the best ????
I love them on “I don’t give a flip” kinda days ????
Sonoma Scent Studio Equestrian today. I’m loving the hay and leather!
Sampling Orquidea Absolute from The Exotic Island Perfumer which so far seems to be doing okay in the heat
The major humidity here in the lower Great Lakes has eased but it’s still hot and while I could be very happy in a world that is perpetual October and May, July should be hot. It will be winter soon enough after all. On that happy thought, I wore Prada Amber to bed last night and am enjoying it’s lingering traces today. It was a blind buy from Fragrancenet’s 95% bottle page – I had some PayPal credit and it cost me a whopping $4 w/free shipping. Money well spent! I will be loving this in the fall.
Nice deal!
What is this 95% bottle page?!? 😉
I was thinking the same thing. 🙂
Here’s the link
http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=95&_sop=15&_ssn=fragrancenet&_armrs=1&_osacat=180345&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=95&_sacat=180345
Hope it still works….sometimes there are great deals!
Thanks for the link. I saw some really nice scents.
Ahhhh this is amazing; thanks, enabler!
Thanks to a kind & generous NSTer, I am in Marni Rose, which I hadn’t worn in warm weather until now (summer is finally underway in Seattle. Yay!) Where it didn’t really work for me in cold weather, the heat really mellows it out and the rose comes through. I quite love it and may have to pick up a bottle since it’s so inexpensive.
Wore Alaia Paris yesterday for the first time in warm weather, too, and it was a totally different animal. Hours in I was overtaken by a chalky smell that I thought was coming from outside. It took a while to figure out it was me 🙂
Oh, I should try the Alaia Paris this week!
Assam of India….I am determined to finish the bottle by the end of the summer….and am enjoying it too!
Got my sample of Chocolate Man last night…that is an odd one…but the dry down is nice…I smelled like a tootsie roll in bed 🙂
Oh that’s a huge throwback to 1994 and my clubbing days to this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qs7f3ssuEjA
Clubbing aside, you smell great ????
LOL! great video….but I won’t reveal to you the years I went clubbing :)……
I’m envious of your thunderstorm, Robin. They don’t happen in my neck of the woods at this time of year, but towards the end of yesterday, when we were all wilting from the heat and the air conditioner was working about as well as trying to cool a house by opening the refrigerator door, I kept thinking that a thunderstorm would be perfect — a break in the heat, some sultry drama, the smell of the rain. Instead, I wore Demeter Thunderstorm to bed, and it was heavenly. Haven’t picked a scent for today, yet, but I may default to Neroli Portofino, which has quickly become my ideal summer fragrance, at least for this summer!
Demeter Thunderstorm is nice, isn’t it? I miss thunderstorms too, we hardly ever get them here in the SF Bay Area.
Hey, neighbor! We live in the Sonoma Valley, snugged up against the Mayacamas, and the mountains make the weather a little rowdier here than elsewhere in the county — we’ve had big thunderstorms and hail at times when the sun is shining a dozen miles away! Not more than a few times a year, though.
(Waving northwards!)
I’m in the Santa Cruz mtns, ocean-side. We get thunderstorms occasionally and being up at 2100ft sometimes we’re *in* them, which is exciting. But I miss the big boomers of my east coast childhood. I have fond memories of sitting on the front porch with my dad, watching the big summer storms roll thru.
You smell fabulous. The Demeter site describes how plants, soil, and humidity work together to create that unique thunderstorm scent.
Last week I read Lab Girl by Hope Jahren, a wonderful memoir of her life as a scientist studying trees, flowers, seeds, and soil. She describes the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) trees and plants use to communicate with one another. I bet she loves the smell of a good thunderstorm. 🙂
Ooh! I have Lab Girl on hold at the library – I can’t wait to read it. 🙂
I really enjoyed reading Lab Girl. It was thoughtful and hilarious and sometimes sad.
This sounds great — duly added to my reading list. Thanks for the recommendation!
Oddly, the last few thunderstorms have not really improved the weather for more than say, 20-30 minutes. It’s just gone right on being despicably hot.
Back from my very hot vacation. At least the breeze from the ocean was heavenly. A terryfing super hot and humid day here today. Being in the subway platform this morning was really a torture! Thinking about the commute back home????. SOTD Bulgari Eau Parfumee Au the Vert. Refreshing, simple and comforting. Perfect for today. Keep cool and safe!
Yay for ocean breezes. I was at the beach last week and temperatures were 15+ degrees warmer than usual even at the shore.
I prefer cooler beach days that end with me wearing a sweater rather than sweating through my t-shirt.
I enjoy both sides of the beach experience. I found the beach in Summer fun, free spirit and happy. Relaxing, meditative and romantic during colder days. The ocean has been always my passion.
I ended up in 2 unairconditioned crowded subway cars today 🙁 Ick.
Oh boy, that was so bad. This heat wave is taking forever. And no sign of a real relief anytime soon. We will survive ????
Guerlain Sous le Vent. I have a little decant of this, which will probably last me forever as it is almost never hot enough for this one here in Vancouver…but it loves the heat so much.
First day of band camp here… and in an unprecedented move, director decided to keep the kids INSIDE today! Heat index well over 100F. Gah.
Wearing Moschino Funny!, nice and cooling in the heat.
My girl just started week 2 of band camp…..They will practice outside early morning, and late afternoon/evening out, and the rest of the day IN! Too dang hot!
The colours of the Friday community project reminded me of the colours of my carded samples from Comptoir Sud Pacifique and Phaedon, so I’ve dug out 5 for the week. SOTD is CSP “Coco Figue”, slightly silly fun on a Monday that frankly could use a little more of it. I have a trying week ahead and am wondering if packing the perfume equivalent of a wardrobe of embroidered waistcoats (Phaedon) and feather boas (CSP) is going to cut the mustard. On the other hand I have a FB of Sycomore in the apartment to revert to if need be. :^)
Today I was inspired by both my Bliss Lemon and Sage body butter that was applied to my legs and Elisa’s geranium post on Bois de Jasmin. So I chose Le Labo Geranium 30 for this warm, sunny day. I really love Geranium 30 and wish I had a larger decant. I’ve got about 5ml left and then I doubt I can replace it.
I’m wearing ELdO Vraie Blonde today.
I got good house news on Friday. My appraisal came back significantly lower than the agreed sale price, but my realtor took the appraisal to the seller’s agent, and the seller pretty much immediately agreed to accept the appraisal value as the new sale price, so I’m getting my house for less than I had anticipated! Woo!
Wow, that is very fortunate. Glad that worked in your favor.
Me too! I was worried that if she didn’t accept, I would have to walk away, and that would suck since I’m supposed to close a week from tomorrow.
I’m not in banking but I doubt the bank would fund a loan for more than the appraised property value. If she rejected your offer, she’d have to find a cash buyer or lower her price anyway. She really didn’t have much choice. Still, awesome luck! It’s always nice to get a break.
I’ve only just put on perfume even though my day is nearly over. I’m wearing Eau Exotique, Eau Turqoise and Eau à la Folie. I may actually like Folie the best, although I find it to be very close to Exotique.
Morning, all. Auckland is a sad place today, drenched and cold and grey. I’m doing my bit for the ambience by wearing Fate Woman, all golden light and stories of Spring. I love it!
At this moment it is drenched and grey but not cold as a massive squall goes through our city. Just as we were supposed to head downtown…. We have to wait it out, because it is the kind of rain where an umbrella makes no difference.
Came home to snow falling … Big goose down flakes floating around the house causing the sparrows to ruffle and shake their feathers. Just patches of snow on the hills but cold…I got an icecream headache while out on my walk. Someone ( probably the PD workers….(law breakers doing community service)…has cleared all the bracken and fern from the edge of my scent tunnel up on the hill! There’s just stubble. The scent tunnel was my daily reward for my long walk, and I loved just standing still and inhaling….Wearing Monsieur LI which is lovely in the frost. Missing Poison Girl ( it’s been 10 days, 4 hours, 12 minutes and 56 seconds since I last saw her). Sorry PG for stuffing you in the back of my sock drawer. You were such fun …. And so misunderstood ( they don’t know you like I do, sob). Hooe you guys can keep cool till after school…sending you a southerly!
I generally hate snow, and winter, but admit at the moment it sounds awfully tempting. Enjoy!
SOTD is Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca. Just barely managing to type this in the calm spaces during a sneezing attack. What in the world did I get into!? Good thing I took my Flonase, or I’d be having allergy problems, eh? ????
A couple of dabs of Chanel 19 Parfum today to clear my fuzzy Monday brain. Still fuzzy but smelling great, at least.
I am on a family vacation, Mallorca. So hot here, so basically speding most of the time in the sea or in the pool. But my beloved Eau Magnolia is with me, and has been used in the evenings.
That sounds perfect, enjoy your family time in the water!
Thank you, Robin ????????
Today I’m wearing Diptyque Vetyverio, as I love vetivers in the heat! Mid-nineties and humid here today 🙁 .
