Quick PSA: my sincere apologies for not reminding you earlier that Donatella will be dropping by later today to see how we're all doing. Meanwhile, it's Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Tauerville Rose Flash over Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight Body Oil.
Reminder: on 7/8, wear a citrus cologne, classic or modern.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Ketchup Red Pantone Coffee Maker is £17.50 at Amazon in the UK.
SOTD is Acqua di Parma Colonia.
(I’ve been wondering about the damage poll, thanks for confirming.)
I really am sorry, I usually manage to give at least a few days notice! I am off my usual schedule because of vacations & whatnot.
Oh, please don’t worry. I am amazed how organized you are – with all these daily website updates, managing community projects etc.
Oh you smell great. One of my favorites.
Gorgeous coffee maker! and that Tauer combo sounds amazing!
I’m wearing a number of good sprays of Séville à l’aube which is working well for the day back after a 4-day weekend.
I think that Donatella will be very pleased with me this quarter.
You smell great!
Yum!, I wore this yesterday, one of my favourite new (to me) discoveries this year.
It’s really just a lovely scent. Makes me happy!
Delrae Emotionnelle. Silly name, great perfume.
What should they have called it?
I just don’t like those cheesy French names. I would have to think long and hard about another name. I think you would have it named Melon Hell, right?
Ha, pretty much. Or Melon Breakfast, if I was feeling more charitable 😉
But agree Emotionelle, it sounds like a cheesy designer name. And no better in Italian — Ferragamo Emozione.
Aw – it’s such a great perfume, I don’t even mind the name that much! I like wearing side by side with Parfum de Therese. These two perfumes reconciled me with the fruity genre, and I thought I just hated melon on principle.
I don’t mind the name that much to prevent me from loving it. But it’s such a carefree, sunny and personable scent that it would have merited a better name.
I think of it as Thérèse’s more insouciant sister.
Doused myself in Cristalle, but we’ll see how long it lasts while this swampy weather persists. The weekend was so lovely too! I got a LOT of yard work done. Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
Swampy is right — I have to run the a/c because it’s so humid, but now it’s just cold and clammy in my house.
It’s going to be hot and miserable this week, so keep that AC on.
🙂
Hey Twin, Joining you in Cristalle today. I adore this scent in the summer. You smell wonderful.
I also joined you in yard work this weekend. I cleaned out our storage shed where we keep gardening supplies. It is much more functional now, meaning I can actually open the door. 🙂 If I can keep the hornets and the mice out, I’ll be all set. If I can convince my hubby to finally build an attached potting bench, I’ll be all set.
I hope you made good progress in removing unwanted garden beds. They are a lot of work.
SOTD Bvlgai Black. It’s been a while since we hooked up. I’ve missed Mr BB????
Hey, come to think of it I miss him too.
You smell great!
Reverted to my recent ebay purchase of no 5 EDC, love its ylangy drydown. After testing over the weekend, it’s nice to be back to something I know I like. Those of you who could use a morning laugh may want to check out Sir Patrick Stewart’s collection of country tunes on Vulture’s site.
I’m wearing an older scent in the Aqua Allegoria line; it is not one of “the four legendary permanent creations,” but I’ve always liked Anisia Bella, and it has surprisingly good staying power on me. A nice fresh scent on a hot day.
I like Anisia Bella too! You smell just wonderful!
What are the four legendary permanent creations?
Pamplelune, Herba Fresca, Mandarine Basilic, , Nerolia Bianca, and then they add a new one each year. There’s a Limon Verde and Teazzura, but I’m not sure of their status. Teazzura may be the newest. Their price has risen drastically over the years.
I think Pera Granita was released last year-or this year.
It sounds like something I would enjoy – a fresh herbaceous scent with anise and liquorice.
Scent sibling! I’m in Nerolia Bianca today.
Anisia Bella is lovely. I ordered it blind from a discounter online a few years ago and am very glad I did. There aren’t enough light, summery licorice scents: really just that and Brin de Reglisse, I think.
And the Etro Anice. And Caron’s whatever, if they still make it.
But the Guerlain & the Hermes are more fun, I think.
I’ve still never tried Anice! No excuse.
I didn’t think the Caron Eau de Reglisse was light enough — too much patchouli and wood. The other two really are the most fun. Anisia Bella is like floating away in a cloud made of licorice and violet pastilles.
SOTD Tauer Sotto La Luna Gardenia. I adore this one, but it never seems to get much love.
Robin, what is your opinion of the Tauer Rose Oil? I adore the scent, but longevity is not great on me…..
I’m a fan of the gardenia! I think it’s delicious ????
I would agree with that — doesn’t bother me, but true that if someone want something that’s going to smell all day, it probably will disappoint. On the other hand, the jojoba oil makes the Rose Flash last longer!
Have you tried the Tuberose? I thought that was lovely, but I’ve become a tuberose fan of late. Need to find the Gardenia.
No – I haven’t had the chance as I have been unable to get a sample sent to Canada. The joys of living in the back of beyond.
I think Indiescents is Canadian based so you should be able to get a sample from them
Do you mean directly from Tauer? I’ve never had any problems getting deliveries from him in Switzerland. Luckyscent, my former go-to, might be another matter: I haven’t ordered from them in a couple of years because the Canadian dollar is in such terrible shape compared to the US, and shipping is through the roof.
I really liked the SLL Tuberose, but not the Gardenia (which came first, if I remember correctly). It was very patchouli-forward.
I had to revisit La Luna Gardenia many times before I fell in love with it. Now I found it beautiful. You smell good!
Sideris for me in this hot muggy weather. So glad to have it in use again
I have this in my Parfum1 cart now but can’t decide. How does it wear in the summer?
Really well on me–it stands up to humidity beautifully
SOTD Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca. Perfect for the hot, humid day here. I like the aromatic, citrus aspect of it. Very refreshing mint and lemon notes. For some weird reason, I can not get any floral notes on this, it does not matter if I have one or ten sprays. Still, I enjoy it a lot.
So refreshing! I’ll probably make use of that this week for the expected heat wave. On me it’s all mint, clover, herbs, and citrus. You smell great!
This one is a summer staple for me. Reminds me a lot of CdG Play Green. Beautiful mint with no toothpaste accord
Hi, AA sibling, you do smell refreshing! (I’m sporting Nerolia Bianca.) I’ve only sniffed the Herba Fresca bottle, so I’ll have to actually try it…
Hi! Nerolia Bianca is one of my favorites orange blossom colognes on very hot days. Very cheerful and uplifting with good longevity. Try Herba Fresca. I am pretty sure you will enjoy it.
Herba Fresca is so nice! It’s not really my thing, but I like smelling it on my SIL. *She* likes it because it smells “like a spa.”
I’m looking forward to trying the Tauer Rose oil.
Feels like Monday, so I’m glad it’s Tuesday. I’m in 31 Rue Cambon and testing out a bit of LL Ylang 39 (from the generous Gi) on my hand. I think it’s really nice. Reminds me of Ylang 49 in feel.
31 Rue Cambon — oh yeah! how’s it holding up in this humidity for you?
I used very little, but I don’t find it heavy. Although, I’m sniffing my wrist (in a meeting????) and up close it smells bitter. I never noticed that before.
You smell elegant today. 🙂
Thanks, Petunia!
You smell very good. I wear it all year round.
Thanks. It smells pretty seasonless to me.
Edit: that should be Iris 39, not Ylang.
I can’t comment on the Iris 39, but your 31RC smells fabulous.
Both Ylang and Iris are great!!!
You smell fab! 31RC makes me sit up straight
I’m trying SSS Equestrian!
And that’s all you’re going to say about that??
🙂 I literally *just* put it on so this is very very first impression but so far it’s a delicious apple scent. Much more of an apple scent than, say, an animalic leather.
I’ve been really wanting to try this, so I hope you’ll report back later with your thoughts!
Ah. That reminds me of Brandy. Can’t remember who made that perfume, but it was named for her horse and smelled like apples.
Cuir d’Ange quietly and for me only again.
you smell incredible.
Thanks to Angela’s review yesterday, I am wearing Mystere. I do love a woody green chypre.
I am drinking the tail end of three different Keemuns all jumbled together.
How do the Keemuns add up?
Robin, that combination sounds so good!
I’m wearing Encre Noire for the first time. Perhaps not a great pick for a humid day, but it’s a vetiver that I actually like . I’m here with contractors who are replacing my basement ceiling. It forced us to move junk and we will then need to really clean and edit afterward.
I just don’t want stuff, except for my perfumes, right now. And, I’m trying to keep a fence around the real estate dedicated to them 😉 .
Good luck “editing” then!
Tried out vintage L’Heure Bleue last night and loved it. Like all Guelain offerings in parfum form, doesn’t last on my skin. I’m so excited that the Tauer travel sprays that I ordered are arriving today, but most likely that I will be at work when they come. Today, I am wearing Deneuve.
I am layering Thorn & Bloom A bird of paradise and savage garden.
Didn’t know what I wanted for breakfast so I cut up some cheese from the farmers market, some figs, and somehow dark chocolate with sea salt and almonds made its way onto my plate 😉
That sounds like the most fabulous of breakfasts. Good heavens, that description made me instantly hungry.
Agree!
Yum. I haven’t eaten yet, and that sounds so good.
Mmm…breakfast of champions. 🙂
Yum!
Ooh, what a mouthwatering selection, very decadent, yum!
How are the perfumes together? The breakfast, clearly, is perfection.
How do you find the longevity on their parfums?
It was a breakfast of Champions!
The longevity is good for a natural..
Bird of Paradise is a must try!
I have fun layering and really enjoy sampling from this line.
Stranger in a Cherry Grove made me a little weepy, smelled like my dad (who passed away 2 years ago) and he use to smoke a tobacco pipe. Though there is not a tobacco note to my nose, the smokiness brings back memories.
I meant to ask, what kind of cheese?
It was a Gouda, amazing
The cheese stand at the farmers market is amazing.
Also, I love mozzarella and now that tomatoes are in season, a caprese salad is divine
Yowza, your breakfast sounds like a great idea for dinner…
I forgot to put on perfume this morning, because between my upstairs neighbor yelling on the phone at someone on her balcony (right above my window) at 01:15 and the roof repair people making the building shake at 06:45, I didn’t get as much sleep as my poor, messed-up body wanted. Grump.
BUT yesterday, I put on some OJ Orris Noir from the amazing Hamamelis. It was the first OJ I’d ever tried, and it was magnificent. Good heavens, rich, sweet, and celery root-y. Just gorgeous.
I want very much to buy the Tauer rose body oil, especially at its shockingly reasonable introductory price, but recently, some NSTers voiced fears that l’Occitane l’Arlésienne body oil might be discontinued because it’s gone on sale, sooooo I bought four bottles. So I feel like I probably shouldn’t be allowed to spend any MORE money on body oil. Right? Even though I adore Rose Flash, and Robin says they go well together. Right?
🙂 I think there’s a higher risk of body oils spoiling (going rancid) so I’d be wary about stocking up too much.
I fear the same thing w/ oils…so I am leery of stockpiling. Often at stores lotions and oils already smell bad to me.
I have that same experience. I’ve tried the Korres Jasmin lotion at Sephora a few times, and it has always smelled rancid.
I love body oils!
Have you got any favorites?
yes..I will email you!
Ormond Jayne Sampaquita. Uncomplicated for a day when my most complicated project will be washing my kitchen floor. Not very interesting, but at least I smell pretty.
You smell great. Spray a bit in the wash water 😉 .
Sa majesté la rose
You smell lovely.
I just wanted to wear something nice and pretty, so I’m in Arquiste Flor y Canto.
This almost doesn’t register compared to last night when I was making samples and decants for some perfume friends and had this special scent that develops when a clumsy person makes decants form several perfumes that have nothing in common.
Inimitable at least!
I love the smell of mingled perfume. I’m sure you smelled delectable!
Flory Canto is very pretty. I was given a sample as a freebie when I placed an order.
Yeah, no matter how hard I try to be careful when making decants, I always end up in the midst of a cacophony of smell. I even bought medical spirit to wipe the table after my exercises.
Love Flor y Canto, you smell great today.
I wear disposable Nitrile gloves now when I make decants! And make sure to do it where I can open the windows immediately afterwards! It helps me avoid that particular and intense scent.
I think Elisa called this the ur scent in an article on BdJ. I love the smell of ur every time I open my perfume drawer or Zara ???? sample boxes.
I’m with you Hamamelis. I love opening my perfume cabinet and sample drawer.
I don’t know Flor y Canto, but from what I have read it sounds rather nice. And yes re decants, but the smell can be rather fun…
I love that smell!
Guerlain Vetiver felt like the right choice for going back to work on a 100-degree day.
The end of the long weekend is made slightly easier by a Malle purchase I had been plotting and finally pulled the trigger on yesterday–10 mls each of Eau de Magnolia, Lys Mediterranee, and Parfum de Therese! Eee!
Oh, nice. Enjoy!
Nice! I think you’ve escaped this qtrs Donatella reckoning.
Wonderful choices!
Seconding mayfly, wonderful choices.
It’s supposed to be 90+ degrees all week, so it’s the perfect time to break out my summer scents. Wearing practically a ton of Fils de Dieu today, and smelling fabulous.
I love FdD in summer!
I’ve recently sampled this one, really unusual and delicious.
SOTD (actually, SOT last few days) is La Chasse aux Papillons. Love the linden opening, and it dries down to a creamy lime sherbet-y scent. Might have to break down and buy a bottle. . .
I’m waiting on a 7ml travel spray from eBay, very reasonable at £9.99 and free postage, I can’t wait to try it.
Such a perfect, relaxed summer smell.
lovely!
Back at work after flying in very late last night (got in at 2 – oy!) and trying to catch up with two weeks of emails, but feeling thoroughly refreshed post-vacation. I hadn’t had a vacation that long since I was in junior high/high school, and the whole thing was just soooo good. Really, y’all, if you don’t mind heights, do yourself a favor and take a day to drive through Big Sur along Highway 1. I’ll write more about the trip later, but I just can’t recommend it highly enough if you like beautiful scenery. And again, I’m going to have to smell Juniper Ridge’s Big Sur to see if it smells like the real thing. So nice.
Threw on Bottega Veneta today because I didn’t have time to think, and I feel good about it.
Will be catching up with everyone’s comments as soon as I can but hope you’re all well!
Good your home safe and your holiday worked out so well!
Thanks!
Have you been?
I’m now!
Oh wait – do you live there?? Lucky!
Sounds like a successful vaca. Good for you! Definitely a trip I’d like to do one day.
Highly, highly recommended.
you’re a trooper for making it into work. I applaud your strength! glad you enjoyed your time in CA!
Thank you, and hope we get to meet up next time I’m there – or maybe next time you’re in New York!
Welcome home! Look forward to hearing about it.
Thanks dear!
The time change makes flying east to west easy. Going west to east is a big “ouch!”
Glad you enjoyed your trip out here on the left coast.
Thank you! And yes, the jet lag is hurting.
I enjoyed living in SF for 6 years and its fun to drive in the bay area..I just couldn’t take the fog and not living in a place that has seasons. There is such a big part of me that is SF at heart, and it really changed me. So glad you took this time for yourself.
Thankfully it was sunny the entire time I was in the Bay Area, so I’m very grateful.
Thanks dear!
Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin thanks to Annikky. I brought a bunch of samples to sunny Spain, and this one fits both weather, mood and NST project. Lovely cologne. Yesterday I wore Azemour les Orangers after having showered with Eau Dynamisante shower mousse, and Cristalle Eau Verte upon arrival. Now I must mentally prepare for Donatella.
Hope you’re having a wonderful holiday!, ive got a sample of Lime basil & mandarin, I’m going to try it tomorrow or Thursday.
Thank you Mayfly, hope you are better after the last months!
you smell great!
Thank you!
You do indeed smell good – I just had lunch with someone who wears it and it is rather distinct without being remotely overbearing (good for a professional lunch).
And good for holidays too!
I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Ironically, it’s one of the few Malones I cannot wear – I appreciate the idea and it’s great on others, but on me there’s just something that bothers me.
I hope you’ll have the best holiday ever!
It’s grapefruit week, I says. Yesterday I re-tried my sample of Viktoria Minya Hedonist Cassis, which should have been named Hedonist Grapefruit if you ask me (clearly she didn’t). Still a ‘nope’ for me.
Starting out the day with PdN Balle de Match – grapefruit, lime, pepper, woods (thanks Kelly!) Later when this disappears, will switch to L’Occitane Pamplemousse-Rhubarbe (thanks Oakland Fresca!)
That’s fun! Doing a fruit week is a great idea.
What a great idea!
In Rosabotanica today. I acquired a bottle some time ago and just grabbed it today. Wore it all weekend and in it once again today. Very nicely done.
I was skimming through the comments and honestly thought you had written “Robobotanica”, which sounds like something I would like to smell. Comme des Garçons should get right on that.
I must admit, your comment gave me a good chuckle, because the fragrance was launched, I did the same thing…I was like “Whoa….that sounds cool….oh wait, Rosa….” lol!
You smell nice!
Finally, a theme week I can participate in with my caution about perfume at work… today I am wearing a very pleasant lemon cologne that I got at an estate sale in a cylindrical bottle that just says “Haarman and Reimer” on the side. It basically smells like a lemon Italian ice, and I therefore find it cooling by association.
That sounds brilliant for the summer.
I knew I’d heard that name before. That must be an old one. Haarmann and Riemer is the old German firm (it’s now known as Symrise, a major fragrance and flavor company) and they were the first to synthesize vanillin from pinewood sap. (source: Perfumes the A-Z Guide, Turin & Sanchez)
I’m wearing 4711 AC Blood Orange & Basil.
I have minis of five of the Aqua Colonias and never really warmed to them. They’re okay, I guess? But not mad love. If I had to pick a favourite it would be Blood Orange and Basil, though.
SotD is Hiram Green Dilettante. My review is almost completele, should be up on the blog tomorrow.
And I can breathe at ease thinking about Donatella this time 😉
Looking forward to reading it Lucas!
Thank you 🙂
I’m in Fleurs de Sel today. Drinking coffee and enjoying a lazy morning. First time in several days I’ve bothered to wear perfume because I was outside working on the blasted trailer all weekend and scent was pretty pointless in that heat.
It’s nice to smell pretty, even if there are other projects breathing down my neck. At least I’m through scrubbing a 16′ trailer with what is, to be honest, nothing more than a metal toothbrush, painting it with acid, and slopping on drippy primer. This is one of those jobs that need to be done, but are waaaay too fussy and aggravating for my spouse since we have to get it wired for lights and painted on the outside to match the registration color, haul it to the town with a lumberyard, buy new planks, remove the old planks and new wiring, de-rust and paint the underside of the frame, and replace the planks and wiring. Right now, I’m really glad we forgot to buy the paint so I can forget about it for a week or so.
Geez, that all sounds pretty whiney but wasn’t meant to be (just wait until I work up the nerve to try to evict the mice and get the tractor running again). This would actually be a fun and not too challenging job if it wasn’t for the trailer being parked on a concrete slab in the sun. I managed to get a nice tan in spite of using 2.5 bottles of SPF 70 and I finished an audiobook without many interruptions, so it was really like a beach vacation without the sand and crowds 😀
Great attitude, and good luck with the rest of your projects.
Love this! Quite a project you’ve got there.
Growing up I would vacation with my closest friend’s family in their trailer on the ocean. Great memories.
Good luck!, that sounds gr8.
Imagine the great trips that trailer will go on when it’s been restored to greatness!
Oh my…I am very impressed! I would have given up as soon as I envisioned all that work.. or tried to outsource the job 🙂
SOTD: vintage Via Lanvin. I’m doing Angela’s “one-scent summer” challenge and will wear only this until Labor Day. It’s cooling and green and well-suited to summer heat/humidity, so I’m sure the challenge will be a snap.
Hurray! for the one-scent summer idea. Cool and green . . . you smell wonderful.
Thanks; I’m liking it. One of my longtime favorites. 🙂 And a break from making choices is nice; I predict I’ll be feeling secure.
I’m wearing Cartier Declaration Essence. Not an EDC, but it has a great citrus note and for some reason I like it best in the summer.
Rushing around at work today, so only grabbed a small vial of DelRae Debut. It’s so pretty. No doubt inspired by the name, I’m imagining Natasha Rostova at her first ball. Although I’m sure she would more likely smell of violets and powder. Anyway, it’s such a shame there are no shops selling DelRae perfumes in London. Or if there are, they’ve gone under my radar. I have to resort to ebay and decants and expensive import charges to get my fix now.
I wish we could get Delrae perfumes in London too, Debut sounds gorgeous!
We should start a petition to Les Senteurs to stock DelRae!
We should!
Yes!
I love citrus and I love colognes, but today I drained a sample of Balenciaga Le Dix (after having ordered a larger decant over the weekend). And I will have much more than that to confess to Donatella later on, I’m afraid, but our home internet has been refusing to load NST and a handful of other sites for the past 24 hours so I might be late to that party. She’ll just have to forgive that too. 🙂
Donatella will even take your confession tomorrow 😉
I am wearing Neroli 36 today.
I was thinking on the drive in to work that, to my untutored nose 😉 , it smells quite a bit like BB Beach.
My co-worker complimented me in the breakroom and I told her the name/house but that she could seek out Beach if she is so inclined. Beach is a bit sharper methinks but quite the savings.
indeed!
Happy Tuesday to everyone! Wearing Orange Blossom by Jo Malone today. Its a summer staple for me that I keep in hand.
I love this one for the summer. And I just finished burning the corresponding candle, it was very heady and wonderful!
Ohh, the candle! That sounds heavenly!
Robin, you must smell like heaven! I wore Rose Flash over the weekend and it made me utterly giddy, as always.
Chilly chilly and grey grey grey here today, and I’m in a yummy combination of cuddly cashmere and Carnal Flower. Haven’t worn this one in a bit and now I’m wondering why — it’s *such* a good tuberose!
We both smell like heaven!
I am wearing Labdanum 18 by le labo. I’ve had the sample for two years now, and while it’s a nice scent I never crave it. It’s like it needs 10% more tweaking to be great to my nose.
The other day my toddler put a bunch of spices into the big bottle of laundry detergent, and I did not notice until it was too late. Now I am wearing clothes not-so-subtly scented with mixture of spices a la my son. Did not want to ruin his vision by adding any fragrance on top.
aha, ha, ha….. Cute story. I hope it wasn’t cumin. It would have been worse if he had used one of your expensive bottles of perfume.
Heehee! Or garlic powder. Crafty little guy.
I actually do not know everything he put in there, but it smells *ever so slightly* like pee….oh man..
That shows wonderful creativity on his part! I hope the surprise was a nice one.
Carner Barcelona Costarela today. One of those that just smells like summer to me. That could be a good Friday theme perhaps. Maybe for January!
In the Northern hemisphere that is!
Costarela is such an amazing fragrance! It is like spending a day in the beach. I like the salty, citrusy and breezy notes and it does not have the suntan feeling that it is so common in many summer fragrances. I wish it could last longer on me.
I wish it stuck around a bit longer too. But it’s so nice I forgive it.
Eau Premiere again today. I’d neglected this one for a while because I’d bought it for my Mom a few months before she died but now it is extra-comforting because I do associate it with her.
You smell gorgeous. I hope good memories of,your mom stay with you all day.
AC Sud Magnolia, partly for the theme and partly because I wore it a few days ago and it clung to some clothing that I’m wearing today, too – so why fight it? I’ve made more progress on my small bottle than I expected (that pink sleeve hides a lot!).
Back to work today. Sigh.
So I’ve been wearing the same thing for the last 3 days. It’s a happy mistake, actually. I was combining some Soleil Blanc samples I had into a bottle with an atomizer and accidentally poured in a vial of VC&A California Reverie as well, thinking it was Soleil Blanc. I was really upset when I did it, but now I’m not. It smells so good!
It makes you want to try your hand at more combinations! You smell
great!
It’s muggy and rainy here today and I’m in the mood for the uplifting smell of lemons. I have clients so a few drops of lemon EO is all I get to wear till after hours. I would like to concoct some sort of an exotic woody lemon bomb so maybe later I will layer the Lemon EO with a tiny smidge of vintage Shalimar Parfum.
I was cleaning under the couch yesterday and out rolled a largish spray sample of Antica Farmacista “Holiday”. I sprayed some on and it was just like Christmas in July! I wonder if that could be a Friday project: Stuff I found under the couch
…or under the bed, in the back of the drawer etc.
Samples everywhere! They do have a tendency to multiply in hidden corners
Ooh, lemon with Shalimar sounds good! Do tell if you try it.
There’s nothing but toasty sun in the forecast for the next week, so that calls for something crisp and sunny. SOTD is Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca.
Clarins Eau Dynamisante, which feels elegantly sprightly. And oddly often gets a lot of compliments.
It’s such a great scent, you smell wonderful.
Have you tried Magnolia Heights?, I have a little travel spray that was free with a purchase at Les Sentaurs earlier in the year.
If u haven’t could u email me you’re address?, I know u like magnolia and I will send it on to u.
(message for SophieC)
P.s I’m really enjoying Yvresse!
You smell gorgeous, I adore the shower mousse.
I was fully intending to start my cologne week this morning, but it was overcast and grey, so I reached for Liasons Dangereuse layered over Palmers coconut body lotion, summery and cosy at the same time.
I sampled Ninfeo Mio for the second time yesterday, and really loved it. First time it disappeared within the hour, so I wrote it off, but this time it lasted a good 3 hrs +.
Cool, grey summer day so I thought to brighten things with Bond No. 9 Fire Island. Worked for a bit, but now I think the scent is giving me a headache, or I would be getting a headache anyway but now I am getting one smelling like Fire Island. I am going to stop typing now.
Ugh. Hope it did not get awful.
Looking forward to Friday, I’m wearing Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. While not labeled a cologne, the citrus opening of kumquat on this one is startling in its realism. Love. It.
With never-ending thanks to hajusuuri for her perfume-enabling kindness, Monsieur Li is now a favorite. Like my experience learning to love Ambre Narguile, at first I thought M. Li was not for me. After time and patient sniffing I went from “ugh, no” to “yes, please”.
I guess my motto should be “Yes to Hermes!”
I’ve just sampled my first from the Le Jardin series, Le Jardin Sur Le Toit, & now cannot wait to try the others, this one sounds lovely, the one with lotus and water reeds sounds wonderful too.
A wonderful NSTer sent me a sample of Le Jardin sur le Toit body lotion. I agree, it has a lovely scent.
Donatella who???? LaLaLaLaLa
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Sous Le Toit de Paris
I love this just as much as Cedrat Enivrant but unlike CE where I can OD on perfume! Shower gel! Soap! (and Body Lotion…but I don’t use scented body lotion), there are zero SLTDP body products -hrrrmph!
After today, comments will be sporadic as I will be off on my most excellent adventure for the next 2.5 weeks. Thanks to those who wished me Bon Voyage. I will not be plotting out perfume boutques to visit but will stop in whenever / wherever I happen to pass one by chance. Root for me as I walk toward my goal of at least 200,000 steps and ideally, 250,000 steps during my vacation!
Scent twin.!! This is my favorite Atelier
Have a wonderful trip!
I’ll be thinking reward-earning-step thoughts for you! If your travels in the Med should take you anywhere in the Bay of Naples, say ciao for me. Good perfume hunting and Bon Voyage!
Have fun!
I might be too late, but have an amazing trip!
Good luck with the steps, and have a fantastic trip!
Enjoy your trip, and good luck with your steps!
2.5 weeks is a good, solid vacation! Hope you have a great time. And I have no doubt you’ll do great in the “steos to rewards” program.
Have a fantastic trip. Perhaps you will run into Donatella!
Thanks everyone. I basically crammed 2 workdays into one and honestly, I needed to do it for me to leave on good conscience. I have 2 easy calls tomorrow and then I am free as a bird, at least for the next few weeks!
Hurriedly sneaking in a “Bon Voyage” to you, Hajusuuri! Hope you have a fab trip and enjoy your freedom from work for a while.
First text this morning was my husband moaning about the heat and humidity in NYC. As I am wrapped in SF cool fog.
Was at TigerLily on Sun. They had tried to close early (more than an hour!) but saw my fallen expression outside. I ended up with Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn. Green and linden. I don’t get the tennis ball note but then I’m not sure I’d notice that.
Nice store with a very different range than those in NYC.
I was last week and really impressed by the selection
I liked it too. I could have gone all Donatella easily.
I don’t much care for citrus colognes, finding them pointless and annoying. So this week I am trying 5 of them and rating them out of 5 for pointlessness and annoyance factors. I’ll also compare their value against the exception that proves the rule: Alvarez Gómez’ superlative cheapie “Agua de Colonia Concentrada”.
SOTD today is “Néroli Blanc Eau de Cologne” from Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger.
Top: bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, orange flower
Mid: rose, jasmine, tea
Base: cedar musk.
Well, that’s what the label from Blooms says anyway.
Pointlessness factor: 4/5 – usual nasty thin citrus spritz dies away quickly to a skin scent.
Annoyance factor: should be 3/5 but I’m giving it an extra annoyance point for an absurdly long name which is a pain in the ass to type, so 4/5.
ACC index: 6.99 (so for the price of a bottle of this, I could get 7 bottles of Agua de Colonia Concentrada, assuming equal volumes)
Disclaimer: I am anosmic to musk so maybe missing out on some (well-) hidden glories of this scent. Better ‘noses’ may actually smell the rose, jasmine and whatnot; I do not.
perhaps without hating them as much as you seem to do, I also luck any warmth toward colognes (he-he, bad pun). I do not know if I will be participating, perhaps not.
I have the samples anyway, so I may as well get some fun out of testing them. :^)
This one was part of the Blooms April subscription pack. I think the idea in April was to get an early smell of Summer-y fragrances, but when I noticed this community project coming up I held some back to share my boredom and disappointment with an appreciative audience. :^D
Yoo hoo, NST, I’m back! Had a fabulous time in South Australia with my sister, slightly less fabulous in Melbourne because I was sick again–how utterly irritating and boring–but managed to buy perfume, ‘cos , you know, someone has to! I’ll tell now, because I might not get in later today to see the Lady of Perfume Purchases: I bought a set of Hermes 15 ml travel sprays, and they gave me generous samples of Muguet Porcelaine and Epices Marine, both gorgeous. Then –oh, mea maxima culpa and many $$$$$–when I was feeling better, I made my way to Peony Perfumes, and there bought a travel set of By Kilian, also, but differently, gorgeous. And–I have great need of a whispering font to say this–I may not have finished with By Kilian….I may ring up the lovely owner, Jilly, and ask her to bring me a bottle of something delicious when she comes to Auckland next month. Smelt and liked Boy, but did not buy, because it should be available in A-NZ next month. Couldn’t find Angel Muse or Peau de Peche. and that was it, really. Not excessive buying, but then, I wasn’t on form.
I love being with my sister– I can garden and play with the dogs and kill things (bull ants, sour sop, three-cornered jacks — I haven’t suddenly come over all homicidal) but this time, I missed the dear man and the cats hugely and also, I took pains to conceal that I was still sick, which was tricky with an eagle-eyed older sister from the medical branch of the family. But here I am, with the gormless but charming Dakkie on my knee, in my own bed, and a very hot cup of proper tea.. .i can feel the healing happening already.
It’s nice to be back at NST as well. Be well, all
Very nice to have you back Waterdragon!
Hello! Glad that (aside from being sick) you had a wonderful trip! Enjoy that hot tea.
Welcome back!
Glad to see you back, Waterdragon!
Great to see you back, and great choices!
Delrae Panache. I have been going through my 5ml decant from an awesome NSTer at an alarming rate.
SOTD is MFK Baccarat Rouge. This is one of the rare scents that lasts all day on my skin.
SOTD = Clinique’s version of Calyx. I needed a “wake up, darn it” scent today, and this has it in spades. It also works well in the soupy weather that seems to have moved in overnight. Ugh!
Calyx has always been a favorite. Never worn it myself but I can instantly recognize it on others. You smell fantastic.
Thank you!
I’m wearing Si Lolita today. I really like the pepperiness of it, and I had been neglecting it a bit since it got pushed to the back of my shelf. I don’t really have much in the way of citrus colognes so not sure what I’m going to do Friday. I may still have a little bit in my Chanel Eau de Cologne sample.
Holy cow, I’m watching Jeopardy right now and Alex Trebek just introduced the first contestant as a “perfumista”.
Which one is it? Liz or Julie?
Someone posted last week that they were going to be on Jeopardy but now I can’t remember who it was…
It’s Julie! And thanks to perfume I knew that Moko was the Maori term for tattoo (Gri Gri Moko Maori).????
Thanks Elisa! I caught the last 20 minutes of the shoe but missed the introduction. I would have forgotten entirely if Olenska hadn’t mentioned it.
Smarty pants! It’s a good feeling when you know the answers. A perfume education. ????
Ugh… Spell check. You know that I meant show, right? ????
I must have missed her original announcement. Congrats to her!
Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is my scent of the day.
You smell great Barqs!
I bought a mini of the previous version of Knize Ten. That was a mistake! It’s less sweet, with less cinnamon, and I really like it.
