Monday, guys, but also — strawberry moon! It's the first time in 70 years that the summer solstice falls on the same day as a full moon. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in April Aromatics Ray of Light.
Reminder: on 6/24, we're doing A House Divided — wear two fragrances from the same house, but don't layer (one on each wrist, or whatever). Suggested by Lisa D.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: Pantone watches are $39.99 each at Pantone Universe.
I’ve decided I’m doing next weeks project this week because a) the very thought of wearing two fragrances at the same time is making the corner of my left eye twitch, and b) this time next week I’ll be flat on my back on a beach on the Greek island of Corfu soaking up some sun and I don’t want to miss a week of wearing Giacobetti (I’m taking a few Rituals minis I want to finish). So my SOTD is the rum and spiced up incense of Idole de Lubin.
You are excused if you bring us all with you 😉
Yes! Yes! Let’s all go!!
I’m wearing Shalimar extrait de parfum and some Mugler Oriental Express on my wrist.
I was very, very pleasantly surprised by Les Exceptions de Mugler, it’s a very good collection, with some very decent packaging.
Agree — they did a good job.
Me too, I love Oriental Express. Got an advance sniff of their fall release, Woodissime, it is nice and will likely add it to my collection.
Ditto on Les Exceptions. I’ve only sampled the original 5 and they are all very good. Oriental Express is so nice…you smell great.
I hadn’t picked out a SOTD until I read your mention of a strawberry moon so I grabbed Mojito Chypre since it’s got a strawberry note
Perfect!
Oh what is it like? I’ve read reviews but still couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of it.
The deep jammy strawberry goes seamlessly with a traditional chypre base. I think it’s a brilliant reinterpretation to substitute lime for bergamot and strawberry for peach
I will have to check this out! Thanks!
Morning everyone. Bois d’Iris by Van Cleef and Arpels for me today, and I’m doused in it. I know that this is a cold weather scent for some, but my skin’s scent-eating tendencies make this fine for June on me.
I saw a fabulous show this weekend in the Village – the painstakingly-replicated “lost” Marx Brothers’ play “I’ll Say She Is”. The guy playing the Groucho role was pitch-perfect, down to his voice and mannerisms, and the guy playing Harpo even played the harp. I was raised on the Marx Brothers, and therefore my cheeks hurt from smiling by the end. It made me so, so happy and I just hope they’re able to go on to Broadway or continue it somehow. So great.
Also – KITTY WENT HOME. Oh my god. I am a cat person, a long-time cat-sitting veteran, and I genuinely was getting attached to him, but wow – he really might as well have been a dog with his messiness and destructive tendencies. My floors and sheets are once again clean, and this is filling me with joy.
I’ll only be able to enjoy this for a couple days before I take off on Wednesday on a solo trip down the coast of California (which I am SO excited about) but it’s still delightful in the meantime.
Hope everyone is well!
Somehow I’ve made it 24 years without ever seeing a Marx Brothers movie. Your comment has me thinking that it’s time to change that!
Yes! But here’s my recommendation: don’t watch just any of them. I believe Duck Soup is on Netflix, so watch that one first – a masterpiece. In a lot of their later stuff with MGM, they were supporting characters in a stupid love story that the producers felt should be central to the films for some reason, when really they should have just pointed the camera at the brothers and let them be ridiculous.
And another thing to keep in mind – their earliest stuff was created just as talkies were coming in, and a lot of mediocre musical numbers were hastily written for them (because with the advent of sound in movies, that was what they thought everyone wanted), but really, you can skip most of the songs (save for Lydia the Tattooed Lady and Hello, I Must Be Going).
Watching individual sketches on Youtube is also advisable.
I obviously take this too seriously and may email you about this with suggestions. Sorry in advance! 🙂
Yes, you must start with Duck Soup.
But it doesn’t ruin anything to youtube ” Marx Brothers mirror scene.” 🙂
Ditto.
My vote goes to Night at the Opera. And i also vote for Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati.
All excellent recommendations.
I also love the Marx Brothers! Yes to Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera.
Your trip sounds great! Have you done that drive before? It’s one of my favorite drives-the scenery is spectacular.
I have not, but have always wanted to. I think on the next trip I’ll drive north from SF towards Portland and Seattle. My family and I did that trip when I was 14 and it was beautiful – would love to do it again.
I think you’ll love it. If you have extra cash to spare, I highly recommend dinner at The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. Amaaaazing view from the restaurant-you need reservations in advance, though. We were able to see dolphins and whales. Bring binoculars!!
I think back in the day that the Post Ranch Inn had another name, something tondo with the ocean, and I remember having a wonderful lunch in the sun above the sea.
to do, not tondo
Seconding Post Ranch, it is spectacular — and spectacularly expensive. If that’s not in your budget try Nepenthe.
Expensive to stay(which we did not) but I’d say dinner was comparable to a higher end NYC restaurant. But they also have a bar-so you don’t actually have to eat. Oh yes, Nepenthe! We went to the cafe there (Kevah)and the shop.
A Night at the Opera is still my favorite. I remember seeing it on the big screen in HS.
Are you doing southern or nothern California or both?
I’m starting in San Francisco, where I’ll spend a few days, then taking four days to frolic around the Central California coast – Carmel, Big Sur, Hearst Castle, Morro Bay, and other goodies, and then (to save over $1000 on my rental cars) I’m driving back up to SF to return the car, and then flying to LA to stay for a few days. Then I’ll drive to San Diego for my friend’s 40th birthday, and then fly home on the 4th of July at night so I can see all the fireworks across the country from the air (I discovered how beautiful this was once and I specifically set up my return flight so I could have this magical experience again).
I am excited. I am VERY excited. And am trying to figure out perfume packing now.
The fireworks from the air sounds special. Hope you have time to get to Scent Bar when you’re in LA
I think I will! Excited to go.
Have a wonderful time! Excited for you. The town of Pacific Grove next to Carmel is also lovely. And I think you can still get onto the Pebble Beach course from the Carmel Beach.
Making a note of it! Thanks Liz!
I LOVE that drive. Have done it twice and would love to do it again. Have a great time!
Thanks so much Robin!!! I have been wanting to do this for years, and am just so glad I can.
I once happened to see fireworks from a flight somewhere over Greece and the Aegean (the Cyclades, maybe), and it was awesome. Enjoy your trip and 4th of July flight!
Isn’t it amazing? Such a special experience.
Thank you!
you smell lovely! and ditto on the California question.
Thank you! And do see above.
Happy to meet up with any and all Californian perfume homies if the opportunity presents itself!
My email is at mary (the letter kay) brunner at gee-male. Would love to meet people!
I cannot believe you managed to keep that beast the entire – what was it, 3 weeks? 6? Kudos.
And that sounds like a perfect vacation to me. Have a fabulous time.
Six weeks. It was tough. He was a turd, but an affectionate one, and did want to give me lots of love, so that helped – once I could breathe. And like I’ve said before, I learned about the importance of boundaries and saying no. 🙂
Thanks Siciliana!
Don’t forget to ask for a bottle of perfume as a payment!
Enjoy your time in CA, I lived in SF for 6 years and I love love the pacific coast highway (if thats even what you are doing I am just making an assumption)
I am happy you are making a “solo trip” Before my little monkey and meatball I use to take retreats all alone to do yoga and when I live in SF I use to go to a place in the santa cruz mountains for a silent meditation retreat, and traveled to SF from NY to do that again before the babies. Its so so nice to take some time all alone, reflect, treat yourself, and do things on your own time and schedule. Sorry..I just went on and on and on..sorry for that!
Before I got married I also did some solo trips, one was a yoga retreat in the Caribbean and the other was back in the santa cruz mountains for a silent retreat.
When I was pregnant with my first I drove to the Berkshire mountains and did a weekend of R&R solo, my husband was a l little worried, but I really needed it and looking back it was the best thing I did for myself.
Gosh that would be my dream vacation….a yoga retreat someplace really beautiful 🙂
The Berkshires are very special.
That sounds beautiful. If I get to have children, I’ll try to do something similar for myself.
Oh they’ve already received a list of options. I’m hoping for a bottle of original Tiffany EDP out of this, but we’ll see.
Years ago, when I lived in Texas, I saw Duck Soup at the Paramount Theatre, and children were laughing so hard they fell out of their chairs and were rolling around in the aisles. To finally see the phrase in literal action was the perfect experience for a perfect comedy.
🙂 I love this story.
Have fun on your road trip and aerial view of the fireworks!
Thanks Hajusuuri dear!
First off a funny story to share- met my elderly mother (in her late 70s) for lunch the other day…she smelled amazing…turns out she confiscated the Father’s Day present I sent to my dad that arrived early…a full bottle of Dame Perfumery’s Citrus Man…it definitely works on a woman!
We also found a florist shop that sells products made by a local lavender farm so we bought lavender scones, lavender shortbread cookies, lavender earl grey tea, lavender syrup and lavender satchets …I am in lavender heaven!
Finally, I decided to start my House Divided yesterday…I have many multiple bottles from Dame, Ineke, Bond no 9, Jo Malone, SSS and 1000 Flowers but I decided to start testing out my Atelier Cologne samples (I have 30). So yesterday was Oolang Infini and Bois Blonde. I really enjoyed them both but the Bois faded after an hour. The Oolang was still perceptible after 10 hours of wear!
Today it is Vetiver Fatale and Grand Neroil. The Vetiver surprised me with its sweetness and I think it would be a great vetiver for the summer. The Grand Neroli on initial application made me think of vintage O de Lancolme (before reformulation)…later it becomes more sweet than citrus…my niece loves it as she says it smells like Fruit Loops….so far two hours later and I am still smelling them.
I find that I get good longevity from the Ateliers when sprayed (versus dabbed from a sampler)…the large 6.8 oz bottle sprays the most juice and when I use that one Orange Sanguine pretty much makes it through the day).
oh..I have a salt mix that has lavender in it-makes veggies taste amazing!
Wow! would not have thought to mix lavender with salt but that does sound pretty amazing!
In Bond’s Fire Island today. I’m really enjoying this one lately.
Had a busy weekend, we had some of family over and manage to fit 10 people in our tiny apartment everyone had to find a seat and sort of cuddle in.
Yesterday was Father’s Day and we had a relaxing time in Central Park playing with the babies and then went out for an amazing dinner at a Greek restaurant.
Feeling very euphoric now that I’m finished working, I went from embryologist/assistant professor to president of the toddler and meatball fan club and I’m ready for this next challenge
I am still sampling from Providence perfume, today I am wearing divine it is a very nice Amber/orange blossom. And on my other wrist I am wearing ginger lily.
🙂 at the Cuddle in.
I hope you will enjoy this new phase in your life.
Yaaaaay! So happy for you! You can always come back to a career, but your little ones are only little once, and I’m so glad you’re going to be able to be there with them and enjoy their littleness.
Oh that is so wonderful! Enjoy those little babes! they are much more important than work!
and you smell “Divine” (sorry I could not resist 🙂 !!!)
Have you caved in and ordered any?
One of my least favorites got the biggest compliment from my hubby, who never says anything..It was Hindu Honeysuckle. As soon as I walked out of the bedroom he made a comment straight away on how lovely I smelled.
No I have not ordered any yet 🙂
Actually, Holly offered to send me some if she can find them in her vast sea of samples….
I have so many other things to explore as well as my full bottles so I am holding off as long as possible on ordering….
I am really enjoying reading your take on all of them , though…and find it quite amusing that your husband loves the one you like the least 🙂 !!! Most of the time my partner says “ew…are you wearing PERFUME???”
Your partner could be related to my family — I get the “Eww, are you wearing PERFUME AGAIN?”, followed by “Are you trying to kill me?”
President of the Toddler and Meatball Fan Club sounds like a whole lotta fun!
Congratulations! Enjoy the babies and family time. It does go fast.
Make sure to have time for you too. And keep going to educational meetings so as the kids grow they see you as an independent woman as well as a super mom and partner.
Late yesterday I read about your episode over the weekend. It always amazes me how people who are probably good in their field become supervisors, but may not have the skills for that, or don’t get appropriate training and support for that position. The issue of a supervisor personalizing what staff members do is so pervasive and so non- productive for the organization. It was great to read about your push back! Have a lovely day!
Thanks WendySue..in my field a lot of people who work in that profession just get promoted to a supervisor, without any training on how to manage people etc etc or even a class on the basics. Some professionals have a certain knack for management and do really well in that role without any formal training however. Its taken me some time to work on how not to be a doormat at work, hence my pushback.
I don’t want to loose myself, so I will take your advice about taking some time to keep myself connected to the things I enjoy. I hear about a lot of women (not just moms) who take time away and become really creative and start something really wonderful for themselves! That is very inspiring to me..
I hate to say it but even with the background education and formal training some supervisors are just not equipped to “supervise” !
yes..it takes a lot of work and you have to have a certain knack for it. I have been fortunate enough to have some really wonderful supervisors that have taught me a lot and I respect
Enjoy the new chapter in your life, lovestosmellgood. It’s a good time to just be open to “everything.”
In my opinion, president of the toddler and meatball fan club is quite an impressive position to have. Good for you. 😉
Enjoy this new phase in your life.
Escada Collection.
Lucky you to be wearing that discontinued beauty! I have two empty bottles of it with the tapestry designs on each..one is black with silver filigree and the other is beige with brown filigree…to my nose it was always a super sweet pipe tobacco which I loved (and yet there is not one mention of tobacco in the notes!) The bottles I have were of such limited distribution that I even had a bottle number that came with the box…threw all of that out and just kept the bottles because they are beautiful…could kick myself for not buying the last limited edition one…fuschia velvet with a lime green filigree design….the color did not appeal to me at the time but now I would love to have it in my empty bottle collection…..
The plastic box notes Edition 2003, midnight blue ‘velvet’ with a crystal and radiating silver dots.
I also have a tester with the notes: jasmine, plum, tuberose, sandalwood, vanilla.
It is one of my favorites.
Oh that bottle sounds gorgeous! I really wish I would have kept up with the release of each limited edition and purchased each one….
the notes are interesting…wonder why my nose is getting pipe tobacco?
I am not surprised that it is one of your favorites …it is a beautiful fragrance….and seemed to be a bit under the radar, right?
Yes.
But truth be told, I get root beer/cola. I would never have known tuberose if I didn’t have the tester.
Ok yes….I could see the cola…but same here…never would have thought tuberose….
http://perfumesmellinthings.blogspot.com/2005/11/perfume-review-escada-collection.html
I couldn’t resist googling and stumbled upon the above…there is a “cola” note and the blogger also mentions the tobacco which isn’t listed (nice to know I am not hallucinating!)….the bottle is stunning! I also found a red bottle and a purple bottle so I missed more bottles than I thought 🙁
http://i1.wp.com/australianperfumejunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/escada-bottle-collection.jpg
the two bottles in the middle are what I have….albeit empty 🙁
The bottle accompanying the first link is the one I have.
The tester is the ombre clear/amber bottle, 100ml rather than 50ml.
Happy day-after-Father’s-Day, y’all! We took my dad to see Finding Dory, and I definitely did not cry twice. And dare I say my Father’s Day gift, a lucky TJ Maxx find of Star Trek Tiberius Eau de Toilette, was… out of this world? 😉
No SOTD yet- planning to go to Tysons Corner later to test some new releases.
Oh, I’m going to see Dory tomorrow with my daughter. I also never cry when watching that type of films, so I’ll be taking tissues.
I have a friend that lives close-ish to Tyson’s Corner (and Fairfax for that matter!) that I’ll be visiting in July, and I’d love to take her on a sniffing adventure. Anything not to be missed in Tyson’s?
If you’d like to get together with some of the DC area meetup gang while you’re here, please feel free to email me: harukirumi in the land of yahoo. Tyson’s Galleria has the usual Saks, Neiman Marcus, Chanel and some others I’m forgetting. Ari’s shop, Arielle Shoshana, is quite close and is a gem well worth visiting!
Two of my best friends live in the DC area, and I actually took one of them to Arielle Shoshanna last fall! Usually I’m only there for a weekend, and am soaking up time with my besties, but if it’s at all possible, I would love to participate! I’ve written down your email address. Thanks Holly!
Any time!
Would love to see you here in D. C.! Have you been here before?
My extended family populates Howard County, and two of my best friends live in the DC area – one in the Virginia suburbs, one in the Maryland. I’m always there spending time with those friends or with family, so I don’t tend to go on sniffing adventures, but I will have to in the future! I took a friend to Ari’s store last fall and met C.H. in person, but I’d love to meet even more of our NST folks.
Small world!! I grew up in Howard County – Ellicott City to be exact, and all of my family and friends still live there or in Columbia. Even though I have moved further north toward the PA-DE line and on the Eastern Shore of MD, I still work in Baltimore and know all the counties surrounding the city like the back of my hand. In high school, everyone would always go down to Georgetown for a night of clubbing since the legal age was only 18 at the time. Even though it has been awhile, I am pretty comfortable with DC as well. Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime you want to arrange a meet-up – I am usually lurking around HoCo somewhere. I am meeperlongshank at the gee male account
Great. And Valentine Girl can come meet up at Ari’s place in Fairfax too. It is definitely a destination.
Valentine Girl – my entire Catholic family populates Ellicott City and Columbia – we probably know some of the same people!
Broken record here in the swamps- PdE Corsica Furiosa…again.
Baby bird down in my back yard yesterday, which I noticed because T-Rex was standing over it, consumed by curiosity. I put her in the house and went to go shoo it in so it was in the shade and not baking in the sun, and lo and behold it was already gone! I thought one of the neighborhood cats had gotten it, but when I went out later in the evening, T-Rex again had again zoomed in on something, which turned out to be a baby bird with a death grip on a branch high up in my sea grape bushes. Don’t know if it was the same bird or not, but I was happy to see it still alive and kicking, if not yet flying.
Furiosa smells so good, but it’s very short-lived on me 🙁
That’s such a shame it doesn’t work for you! I am torn as to which I like better, the opening or the dry down…
I put CF on today after an afternoon shower because I love the opening, but like you I wish it lasted longer.
Hope the little bird makes it ok!
Me too!
I’m wearing Hiram Green Shangri La and waiting for my full bottle of Moon Bloom to arrive: as the Netherlands is not far, I expect this to happen shortly!
Also, the little decant bottles I ordered have finally arrived, so I will in the near future send out the packages I owe to several fellow NSTers.
You smell great. I really enjoy all of the Hiram Green fragrances. Somehow they smell of a consuming love of the art. Of course, one could say that about a lot of fragrances , especially by independent perfumers, but his just resonate with me. I got Moon Bloom from his site with the discount since they are repackaging, and I love it. Trying not to break down to go for Shangri La.
I also like all three. My problem with naturals is often that they are too close to the skin and I can’t smell them enough, but these have impressive staying power and decent projection. And bonus points for keeping the collection small and on point.
Are the Hiram Greens naturals? If so I am adding them to my list…..
They are!
Holly…shame on you! now another brand for me to explore!
Ok I just took a peak on luckyscent…a bit too pricey for me….
He did travel sprays for the first three. Although they weren’t sold separately, they might show up on eBay or some such, and with luck he’ll do some smaller sizes with the new packaging, making it perhaps a bit more affordable.
Do you know thorn and bloom? Lovely and unusual naturals that are extremely expensive for 30ml, with a lovely bottle and cap, but she’s also doing smaller sizes now and has a great starter set.
Hey twin! I’m really liking this one.
It’s good, isn’t it? I hugged a colleague this morning and he said: “wow, you smell good” 🙂
(And another colleague added: “Well, she always smells good.” Made my day!)
Old-school fruity chypre. Pretty amazing for a natural. I said it reminds me of Femme, but maybe even more if Balenciaga Quadrille-I have a smidge of the parfum left so I’ll compare later.
I don’t think anyone can smell it on me-dabber sample. But nice to get noticed. And you do always smell terrific! As do I, at least to myself.
You smell fabulous!
I heard about these, how are they for naturals?
They are great – excellent quality, proper perfumes. And while Moon Bloom does not seem to last on some people (including floralgal below), all three last very well on me. I’ve been wearin Shangri La for 12+ hours today and I can still clearly smell it.
So wish Moon Bloom lasted longer on me. It’s such a pretty scent and I do love that it’s natural.
Voyage, on the other hand, has a crazy amount of lasting power.
Such a good line.
(Un)fortunately my person really dislikes Moonbloom so I don’t have to worry about the longevity.???? Voyage and Shangra-la do nicely thought.
(Dr. Evil-ish-ly) Dun-dun-DUUUUUNE!
🙂
???? Bwahahaha!
Hehehe! You smell really great.
Thanks!????
Still traveling with one bottle of indochine
There was a little discount at luckyscent last week so I ordered an extra to greet me when I get home
My hugely loved and missed dad is buried here in Florida, so I was able to go an cover him with cards. Pizza also would have worked.
🙂
What a nice thing for Father’s Day! Love the pizza idea.
Gap Orange Blossom, roll-on format. The oil base (whatever it was) is getting just a little funky with age, but that fades off fast (an unanticipated top note?), and the rest is all good.
Pretty sure it won’t last all day, or even all morning, but I’m fairly certain I can locate something else to wear later 😉
Have a great day, y’all!
I seem to recall the Gap Peony scent in the oil format was great.
Hot and sunny here, a good day for gardenia so I went with SL Une Voix Noire.
Nice. I don’t like it enough to have it on hand, but sometimes I miss that strawberry-shampoo gardenia.
you smell wonderful!
Thank you :-). Went to the outdoor pool for the first time this season. Feels like summer is really here now!
Ah man I love the outdoor pool. I wish there was one within walking distance of me.
Geranium pour Monsieur. The mintiest geranium.
Ooh very well done!
you smell great!
I’m sampling Hiram Green Shangri La. I’m enjoying it. Reminds me a lot of vintage Rochas Femme, but more feminine(ironically).
Twins!
SOTD: Insolence
I am tempted to go for clashing fragrances this Friday just to see what happens. 😉 Haven’t decided what yet though. Will put more thoughts into it.
Pink Sugar and Sous le Vent? 🙂 Trying to think of the most clashing notes I can think of.
Ack, that was upsetting.
Rue Cambon on the left wrist, Sycamore right wrist, Cuir de Russie somewhere else. I applied them before seeing the Friday project because of all of the discussion about the change in the Chanel Exclusifs formulas. I hadn’t thought I liked CdR that much, but a light dab is smelling like soft, floral leather. The Sycamore has more heft and surprisingly, those are standing up better than Rue Cambon. It is turning a little sour. :- ( . I have a gift card, and was hoping the decision on these would be easier.
I feel you – these are all great scents, I would not know what to pick if I had to choose only one.
Also, bear in mind that Rue Cambon is less robust than Sycomore and CdR, so it’s almost bound to suffer when you smell them next to the others.
Thanks. I will keep that in mind and give the decision some time. Hopefully there will be a supply of these for a while.
Surprisingly, the Chanel SA said that CdR is among the least popular Les Exclusifs. (I won’t use the p word).
🙂
Which would you get with a GC, Hajusuuri?
Did you mention something about buy more and save on fragrances at BG? When does that happen?
Also, how do you find things on special on Luckyscent other than by browsing? Thanks for your wisdom!!
Hey Wendysue, I would get the Chanels in this order given the uncertainty of EDT vs EDP and possible reformulation plus the guaranteed price increase: 1) An Extrait you had been wanting to get for a while (protect yourself against a price increase) 2) a smaller bottle of an EDT that you’ve worn and loved and have no longevity or strength issues but just never got a bottle of 3) a back-up bottle. My acquisitions since the Chanel scare news was a back-up smaller bottle of Coromandel (I had been meaning to get one since my current bottle is running low) and a large back-up bottle of 28 La Pausa because I’ll be going through my smaller bottle in record time due to the 8 sprays per normal wearing.
The BG Event buy more save more usually occur in January and in September.
As to LuckyScent, the discount code appeared on top center of the page (normally, the codes appear on the upper right). I really think I got the code because over several months, I would sporadically search for Mohur Extrait, leave the site, return to search again, add it and leave it in my cart. I would also love to hear how others find or stumble into discounted perfumes, besides the usual sites!
Happy Monday! SotD is A La Nuit. All the talk of jasmine last week gave me a craving.
You smell lovely.
Again, in Houbigant Oranger en Fleurs
That is a nice one orange blossom!
Twins! I’m trying it out today for the first time.
Égoïste today to fight the 34C heat of Hong Kong. This is killing me.
Same heat here, but I’m sure a fraction of your humidity. Hope you have access to AC!
Thank goodness, I do! Still, the electric bill would sky-rocket if I turned it on continually. I miss the fresh cool air of Switzerland!
This will be a good week to go ahead and use my samples that I have collected.
My two SOTD is “Midnight in the Palace Garden” and “Maxed Out” by 4160 Tuesdays.
Enjoy the official first day of summer everyone!????
Have not gotten around to 4160 Tuesdays (yet 🙂 !!!) but have heard great things about her perfumes!
They’re really good. Created by someone who obviously really loves perfume…
I was going to try one of my many mostly untouched discovery sets, but I couldn’t decide, so I went for Elixir des Merveilles instead.
And of course you smell great.
Terracotta, though I couldn’t think of another Guerlain to wear simultaneously (to go with Friday’s theme). Maybe the right partner scent would have helped, because honestly, I think I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that I just don’t enjoy wearing Terracotta that much. Maybe it will finally make its way into a swapmeet one of these days.
I loved the idea of Guerlain doing a suntan lotion type scent, but it didn’t work for me. The bottle is so satisfying but the scent was just a no and a no. I prefer Bronze Goddess as a scent–but wish it came in a more elegant and imaginative bottle and had a pithier name!
I think I like the idea of suntan lotion scents a lot more than I like the scents, themselves. I have a bottle of Bronze Goddess, too, and don’t really enjoy wearing that one either. Maybe I should just stick to regular sunscreen
I like Terracotta but enjoy plain old Yves Rocher Monoi even more.
SOTD Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino Acqua.
My oldest son graduated from high school on Saturday – I wore EL Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia to the ceremony, and Fracas to the party. Gave and received many congratulatory hugs, and got lots of complements on my perfume! It was so nice that I decided to wear the same perfume to work today (TG, not Fracas which might be a bit much for the office). Unfortunately no compliments yet today (not as many hugs at work.)
Congratulations on a milestone.
Thank you, I am very proud of him.
Aww! Your comment gave me a lump in my throat. I love watching my boys grow up… but but but… it happens so fast. It sounds like a wonderful day and party.
Yes, definitely a bittersweet occasion. His brother is only 2 years younger so we’ll be empty-nesters soon.
Oh, that’s such a major milestone for parents and kids alike. Congratulations!
We are almost there — congrats to you and your boy!
SOTD is Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli by Dame Perfumery. I ran out of the house with no perfume this morning, something I rarely do. I had a sample of this at my office ( I keep samples in my desk drawer for reference or emergencies). I really like this! It does not project far, is soft and slightly sweet, but not too sweet, and I just barely smell the patchouli, it is well blended. It is still on my scent -eating skin after 3 hours, so that is good.
I like that one too…but then again I like just about all of the Dame offerings! They last longer on my skin too…all of the fragrances are very well blended and are good for office wear!
A Strawberry Moon means it’s time for 4160 Tuesdays Goddess of Love and Perfume: A strawberry chypre!
I just did a Scooby Doo “Whhhuuhh?” Sounds interesting!
It’s true! I’ve been proselytizing about 4160 Tuesdays lately. Sarah’s work is so unique and fun. It deserves to be better-known.
Czech & Speake Dark Rose is my SOTD.
I like that one.
heatwave here in southern California, it’s going to be 100 degrees today, yikes! I’m in eau de sens.
Lovely fragrance for any weather! Stay cool.
thanks, I will try!
I’m still scentless. Eau des Sens is a good idea. Maybe with Florabelio on the other limb.
that sounds like a great idea!
How do you like Eau de sens? I loved it at first and now it does a sort of powdery thing I don’t like. I’m wondering if I should spray less . . . or more.????
more is always the answer! 😉 maybe that’s something specific to how it wears on your skin–I don’t get any powdery-ness…just all bright, crisp, sweet orange blossom. hmm…
This was what the decant was like on me. Then I got a small bottle and its a little different. But I’ll keep at it! It might also be my mood changes how I react to it.
Oh, my! That’s hot, hot, hot.
Hope you are enjoying the AC at work. 🙂 No AC in my house in San Diego so I was actually happy to go to work when it was super hot.
Lovely choice! I have already used up every last drop of the DIY sample I made up from a display promoting it when it was first released. Orange blossoms are perfect for CA sunshine.
Just received Fleur de Chine Tom Ford – unsniffed buy – and sprayed a little. I think this one is gonna be good.
I hope you won’t be disappointed! This is one of my favorites in the private collection.
Yummmmm…I think I am so not disappointed. Better even than I thought it would be.
I should just get a sample of this. Every time is shows up at a discounter, I am tempted to blind buy it.
Love the watches!
I’m doing a week of Dior-on-Dior friendly fire. Today the starring role is Dune pour homme in current EDT, with a cameo role (left wrist) for Dior Eau Noire. And as sometimes happens in films, the cameo actor is showing up the supposed star for the shallow charlatan he is. :^)
Dune is okay taken on its own, a sort of vague greenery-freshery thing, but the richness and depth of Eau Noire show it up as insipid.
I’m doing this as a sort of ‘rondo’, so on Friday Dune will play the cameo role to some other scent – we’ll see if it redeems itself there. While tomorrow, Eau Noire gets the starring role – but will a new cameo actor steal its glory? Tune in for the next episode of “Diors of Our Lives”! :^)
Tee hee
😀
Cute
Wearing Bergamote 22. It and Neroli 36 used to be all I ever wore before I went down the rabbit hole.
you smell great.
Thank you!
I need to get out my decant of this, it is almost warm enough here.
Definitely good for the swampy days.
Just spritzed AdP Blu Mediterraneo Bergamotto, nice post-cold (illness, not weather). Have a beautiful day, everyone.
Glad you’re better!
Doggedly making my way through the dregs of this Eau des Merveilles bottle (though I did give myself a break for the weekend to wear other things). Still loving it but looking forward to getting back to variety. These last couple mls seem to be self-replicating.
“these last couple of mls seem to be self- replicating”…hysterical!
I used to douse myself when I was down to the last 4ml or so because I just wanted to get that darn bottle empty so that I could move on to something else!
Spray the room a few times to help it along. 😉
And a couple of spritzes on the pillow couldn’t hurt either!
Nice lemon lime watches!
Not feeling well today, but still seeing clients while feeling slightly nauseous. Hopefully I’ll get through it. No scent till after work, and maybe no scent at all depending on how the nausea goes.
Happy Strawberry moon and summer solstice everyone!
God I hate being nauseous. I hope it passes quickly.
Oh yikes! Feel better….perhaps some ginger tea? that always helps me…
and happy belated birthday 🙂 !!!
Aw thanks for your caring thoughts. The nausea went away as soon as I got to the office, so all is well. Someone in the thread mentioned Indochine, so I think I might spray a tiny squirt of it to see how it performs in the hot weather. I hope everyone is enjoying your day/evening.
I actually just came across an almost empty decant of AG Muguet so decided to spray that instead. I’m trying to use up some of the almost done decants. It’s very lovely and calming and not too sweet.
In Gris Montaigne. A pretty cool scent for this warm day. When I applied it I had a sharp flashback to living in Manhattan in the mid 1990s. Not sure why.
Processing: The Warriors.
I know, the Warriors. I am so sorry. I have no Cali connection and so was just rooting for them because I love the way they play. But sending condolences.
And you smell lovely.
Oof. I was hoping I’d wake up this morning to find that game was just a bad dream. (I truly can’t abide the ‘star’ of that other team–he is everything that’s wrong with professional sports.) I know there were Wildcats on both sides, but as a Tucsonan I will always be rooting for whatever team Steve Kerr is part of. I mean, he came to my elementary school when he was at UA! ????
It was a rough morning for a lot of folks around here. 🙁
as always around this time of the year around here, it’s miserable & raining! I’ve watched some early x files – those misty woods suit my current mood perfectly – and wearing EL Sensuous for increased coziness. Happy solstice!
The early X-Files are the best (in my opinion). Especially in damp, blah weather. I’m really quite envious of your weather at the moment, and it’s only the beginning of summer. Happy Solstice!
I agree, the earlier seasons are better – or at least the ones where they’re still shooting in Canada. Of course suddenly I recollect several great Californian episodes… Midsummer is traditionally celebrated outside here & it’s almost always dreadful weather! Or at least quite cold. Celebrating it is ubiquitous too, You Gotta. So we all huddle in our jackets & boots. I’d love some of the heat you guys seem to be experiencing…
Dang, I miss Mulder and Scully!
I am wearing Metal Hurlant by Parfumerie generale from a decant I bought. It smells like hot metal, gasoline and body shop, or at least my idea of one; unlike Black, it does not even pretend to be a “perfume”, and I would probably be completely ashamed to buy a FB of it, especially for the price, when plenty of people smell like this at the end of their workday. Nevertheless, here I am, completely obsessed with the little spray bottle I am carrying with me so that I could reapply when it starts wearing off….
That’s so funny!
Now I wanna try it. 🙂
If I remember correctly, wasn’t the concept of this fragrance supposed to be…You, too, can smell like a motorcycle trip, “hurlant”ing along Route 66, if you apply just a little spritz!
I was having one of those mornings where nothing was really appealing to me, so I’m wearing Bulgari Red Tea.
No scent yet. Will probably wear OJ Frangipani. Lots of family time in CA for Mom’s service and then Father’s Day. It will be quieter now with folks heading home, but I’ll stay awhile. It is going to be over 100 here this week, which isn’t unusual. My sister gave me a little decant of Dame Lime, Gardenia and Benzoin, which I look forward to trying in the heat. My sister is decant and sample queen since she has so few stores near her, so, her cabinet is a mini store for me!
Glad you will be able to stay and spend time with family — and good luck with the heat wave!
Good you’re able to stay longer!
Oeillet Sauvage today. But right now, all I smell is sunscreen. Oh, well.
Morning, all. My return to work yesterday was curiously humbling–I had been doing tasks by email and phone, but people seemed so genuinely happy to see me in the flesh as I live that J felt guilty for not wanting to be there at all, or even less. A couple of people hugged me and told me I smelt wonderful, so clearly Coromandel was a good choice. I decided to keep the Chanel theme going–it’s not precisely a hardship, after all– so I took the door marked “31 RC” to perfume heaven. I feel ready for anything.
It’s so lovely when people seem genuinely glad to see you, isn’t it? You smell wonderful.
Absolue Pour le Soir was beckoning again this morning, but I decided to be temporarily appropriate and was commando for the first half of the day. Prompted by the comments, now I’m wearing Hiram Green’s Voyage which I have previously claimed might work as a summer vanilla. I don’t know if aging is the determining factor or not, but I’m pretty much up for reeking havoc these days. You can add a sic in there if you like. 😉
After reading your comment I looked up the notes on luckyscent and Voyage sounds divine..wonder what essential oils are combined to make the suede accord?
I had email contact with Hiram Green about this, and you would never expect it but it is mainly lavender! I think Voyage is divine, and very soon he will launch a new scent based on orange blossom.
Wow I never would have guessed that in a million years. I wore Voyage quite a bit this winter too. And I don’t particularly like overt lavender in perfume.
Love your attitude! And, you smell great. Hiram Green is really a master.
Reeking havoc! Excellent!!!!
Anxiously awaiting the launch of your blog named “Reeking Havoc”! Do it!!
For Keep It Simple Monday it Bas de Soie. Succumbed to re-pricing panic and bought the Beige Extrait this weekend…
Ooh, I wish I tagged along on your Beige purchase! Have you opened it yet?! How do you like it?
I wore Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense today
I’m on scent #3 already today. Can you tell I’m not only working from home but the hubby is out all day today.. ha,ha.
Stared with Fiele Fragnrances Juniperus, a freebie sample that puts me smack down in the center of a forest followed by Philosykos edt to add some fruit to the forest and now I’m onto Narciso edp which has overpowered the other two – all musk & gardenia..
Oh I forgot about the Fieles! I bought the sampler pack a while ago and drained them all rather quickly…that is another all natural line that I enjoyed….
My second bottle of Blackbird arrived in yesterday’s post and with it some California Chocolate. So, taking up the challenge I am wearing both …. And the sensation is similar to when I am sitting in a room between my deaf mother and my deaf mother in law…both shouting, What did she say?
Choclate orange blackberry pine …mmmm. I don’t think so!
I’m playing today, but it feels like cheating. Wearing two light, fruity Inekes, Angel’s Trumpet and Scarlet Larkspur. So far, I smell like a particularly great shampoo for small girls, which is good because the gym was packed with college boys and I needed a strong antidote to boy sweat and too much bro-juice. What the heck is that horrible chemical-patchouli thing that’s so popular?! My husband asked why they all smelled of ammonia and armpit and I totally get the connection; it’s the eye-watering quality. Yeesh!
whoops! That was meant to be a separate post.
Seems quiet on NST today. I also chose a Monday keep it simple scent of Cristalle.
I tested the Baruti coffret over the weekend. I particularly liked Melkmeisje which was a green floral with lilac. Indigo was also pretty interesting. Not sure if I would buy any of these but they are different.
I also tested Melkmeisje recently and liked it until the drydown. The woods smelled like sawdust on me 🙁 And, you smell awesome!
I saw the Baruti line on discount at Beautyspin so I decided to try them all just in case I fell in instant love. I had just received the coffret last week. Melkmeisje stood out for me but I doubt that I stayed awake long enough for the drydown since it was quite late. Anyhow, it was sold out at BS so money saved. For all I know, the drydown was sawdust on me too. ????
How were the others?
Not really my style Elisa. Chai had a strong opening spice note and a rough edge. I think it would be a great room scent rather than a perfume but I did like it. Indigo was pretty but had a note that I didn’t like, probably oud. Berlin in Winter seemed like a stronger version of Indigo. I didn’t care for it at all. Voyance was meh. IIRC, it was a minty tuberose. It was only the tiniest bit sweet, the tuberose was dialed back and it seemed somewhat discordant. Nooud was okay but I’m not a huge oud fan. They were interesting but really not anything I’d be tempted to buy. So no real winners for me. Lightening flashing here…woke me up.
Busy day with a business diner, SOTE was Safran Troublant, SOTD was Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EdT, thanks to Ann S. I am falling hard for both EdT and EdP. Donatella watch over me…
Now off to watch the one before last Game of Thrones episode!
I started the day in Philosykos, but then spritzed Eau Premiere when I went to buy sandals for my husband. The Eau Premiere smells gorgeous, but is completely discordant with my grubby bumming around and running errands clothes. I should probably change to live up to this perfume.
I secretly like to wear my Chanels with jeans and a ratty T-shirt and dangly diamond earrings to go food shopping. This past Saturday, I unexpectedly bumped into our Pastor at Wegmans… at least I had a well-kept red white and blue T-shirt on.
Kinda doubt I’ll be participating in the challenge this week, work is jangling my nerves enough as it is, without adding olfactory jangliness. Though I sorta participated over the weekend, sampling several Kerosenes at once (nope, nope, nope…) and then several 4160 Tuesdays (ack, some aromachemical in those fried my sinuses)… well the good news is that I didn’t find anything I have to buy. So that’s something, anyway.
This morning my brain sent my hand reaching for Le Labo The Noir, but Fat Electrician jumped in front, so Fat Electrician it is.
I just really paid attention and smelled Fat a Electrician this weekend and it is really really good. You smell great! But The Noir is nice too!
Late today but all kinds of very important perfume stuff going’ on in my house…
1. I am sampling a bit of Dark Horse from a very kind NST’er. It smells a bit like spicy bubblegum to me but I only applied a teeny bit to my wrists.
2. The Ex Nihilo discovery trio arrived today and I’m going to break into it tomorrow…if I can wait…
3. In some semi-compulsive online shopping around 11 pm last night with the churnings of potential Chanel exclusifs changes coming later this year in my mind, I blind bought a full bottle of Bois des Iles w/ a 2011 batch code. The purchase made very clear sense to me last night when I was falling asleep around midnight. It gets so much praise here and such good reviews elsewhere it really was my only logical choice. 😉
I’m looking forward to hearing your impressions of Ex Nihilo! Congratulations on your Box of Eels – I hope you’ll love it.
Thanks 🙂 …I am breaking out Sweet Morphine tomorrow. I took a couple days off from work and go back tomorrow…the morphine will be much needed.
Hi She-ra,
Would you share where you purchased a Chanel Exclusive online? The only place I ever see them online is the Chanel website.
Bois des Iles is lovely. I hope you enjoy it.
I bought it off evil Ebay which I am always a bit leery of but the seller has 100% feedback and has been on Ebay for 10 years. They have a ton of Chanel stuff. I’ve bought quite a bit of Ebay over the years and only ever got burned w/ a counterfeit once. In hindsight, I didn’t follow the rules and was overzealous though w/ that item. The seller ID was less than a year old and had some negative feedback but the allure of non-reformulated Miss Dior Cherie blinded me. 😉 The seller refunded the sale after I complained it was counterfeit.
I’ve bought a few items off EBay too. Thanks!
Try listening to Gaslight Anthem while wearing it! I think it is one of my fav songs of theirs.
Copy that! 😉
Sleepy-time online shopping could otherwise be dangerous, but you got Chanel. Even if it was a blind-buy, how could you go wrong? ????
More sound logic…this time in daylight…at least where I am… 😉
It’s currently 110 outside, I’m wearing Houbigant Orangeurs en Fleurs, and I just had a filling fixed at the dentist. And OMG I am so numb: my tongue, my lip, and even my chin!
Hope your day has been good, NSTers. Stay cool (or warm) wherever you are!
I wish we could do a weather split meet or decant – a bit of frost on the grass in exchange for a day without an indoor beanie.
Do you ever toy with the idea of getting a nose/ear/lip piercing etc. after a trip to the dentist – with the benefit of numbness. Or is that just me? Mmm probably just me.
Haha, that made me burst out laughing! Um, it might just be you. ???? But if I had been so inclined, this would have been a perfect time to do both my lip and tongue. They weren’t even this numb when I had a root canal!
Yes! I’ve always wanted to be able to share some of our sun and warmth with places that could use it. I try to pass some along with telekenisis to friends/family in the US Midwest and in the UK. Alas, it doesn’t seem to work.
It is just me????? Lucky I wasn’t in the mood for a tattoo when I had an epidural…hahahahaha
Been there already…lol..I accidentally chewed a hole right through my lip when I was about 6 years old after a visit to the dentist. My mouth was so numb and I kept gnawing on my bottom lip & never stopped because I couldn’t feel any pain…and then the Novocain wore off..
Oh no!! Poor 6-year-old you! Oh, gosh, I bet that was a bummer to recover from.
Quick question: I got a set of Floris Soaps in Stephanotis for my birthday – it’s a little sharp smelling for me and I’m thinking of exchanging it for another scent. I’ve heard Blenheim Bouquet is really nice. Does anyone have a favorite Floris soap that you could recommend?
SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa
In honor of the soon to arrive big honking bottle, I am justifying the purchase. I wore it yesterday too at half dose because I met up with family and friends who don’t necessarily appreciate perfumes).
To think a year ago I didn’t think I liked – or didn’t yet like – Chanel perfumes and now I am tempted to get big honking bottles of both 28 La Pausa and Misia even though I have small bottles. I am so scared they will change!
Well, if you love them as is, I would say go for it 🙂
Celebrated first day of summer with Dasein’s Summer as SOTD. While I find the cilantro and freshly cut grass notes predominate, there are wisps of orange blossom frolicking amongst the green! Happy solstice everyone – be it the longest (or the shortest) day of the year you are celebrating.
